20 Best Sleeping Pills For Dogs (2023 Updated)

I purchased the Melatonin for my cat who displays some anxious behaviours when he is chased by my other cat or when I move from the couch – he immediately goes and eats dry food. He also sometimes attacks my other cat for no reason.

Pet WellBeing explained that it could be a build up of cortisol in these situations and then tries to relieve this by eating. I have used this product since June 13th, he does sleep better, I can pet him when he sleeps and he does not make the trilling sound, deeper sleep.

I have noticed that he has not attacked my other cat so much now, only a few times. Unfortunately, the eating still seems to be a problem when being chased or when I move. I have tried the Calming Care as well but unfortunately there was no signs of improvements.

I will try the Stress Relief next as the Melatonin seemed to have some effects and I would somewhat recommend to a friend.

I purchased one night while up at 1 am with my senior dog during what we called her witching hour. I had taken her to a Neurologist just the day before to rule out anything medically happening due to her increased agitation and wacky behavior in the evening.

She called it congnitive dysfunction syndrome, basically old dog disease. She gave me anti anxiety medication and the first night it made her even worse. So I purchased these drops and the first night.

oh my god. she slept through! She will wake up a little at 10 (which is her witching hour) but calmly goes back to sleep. The only negative is she sleeps so good she pees herself around 4 am which she has never done before and you can tell is embarrassing.

I just wake up at 3 and take her out and she goes right back to sleep. Such a life saver for us and our sweet grandma.

The Melatonin really worked fast for my dog’s anxiety. It’s the best thing I’ve found for him. People try to tell me that I can get the same thing over the counter, not so. I’ve tried some different ones from good vitamin names.

Nothing comes close to this. My biggest problem is the price. I’m on a very low fixed income and I have to give up something to be able to buy this product. I highly recommend this product for anxiety.

After having our rescued Coonhound for a year and talking with our vet we decided that she needed something for her ever-growing anxiety issues. She had reached a point where she would do her “sad Coonhound call” for over an hour when we left for work, resulting in a neighbor calling animal control on her! Everything was scary, if the house made a “wrong” noise she would start shaking with fear.

You could always see the whites of her eyes and she would compulsively lick her belly raw to soothe herself. We tried training and making her world as ordered and comfy as possible, thinking that it was a phase from her difficult past.

We received our package the other evening with the Zesty Paws Calming Treats and gave her one with dinner, then another in the morning with breakfast – she only called for us for about 15 minutes that morning (we have cameras to watch them).

When we got home, she had not touched her belly that day, her eyes were calm and her body relaxed. This morning (day two) she only called us for 5 minutes, before calming down, patrolling the house, then laying down with her overly calm brother (no need for supplements with him) for a nap! She is still her spunky, playful self, and is clearly much happier! This has been amazing for us! Not to mention, she finally slept through the night (normally wakes me up because of night fears)! Can’t say enough about how great this is already, and she seems to be getting better every day.

Definitely recommend trying this before any heavy drugs that may make your pup drowsy, or feel drugged. These treats smell so good as well, I’m tempted to taste one!.

It took me a little extra time to decide whether Zesty Paws calming bites did as they claimed to do. I have 5 fur babies and gave this product to 3 of them on most occasions. On a few occasions the 13-week-old puppies got one as well but not for them to calm down but because they took it out of my hand before I could give it to my bigger puppies.

First opinion on product- Zesty Paws calming bites are the cutest and most wonderful smelling bites. They are shaped like hearts, look like dusted chocolate and smell like peanut butter. My puppies loved them.

I even enjoyed opening the jar because of the fabulous aroma. These as a regular treat without the calming effect would be wonderful as well. I provided Zesty Paws Calming Bites to my 3 dogs- August, Beagle, 13 months- Quinlan, Boxer/lab mix, 7 months- Chewy, Pomeranian, 11 years.

My puppies are very busy and rambunction fur babies who ram and tear all day and sometimes, all night. I gave them each 2 of the calming bites around 7pm and I noticed by around 8pm that they would start to settle down and life would get quiet in our home.

Chewy did not need one as he is a quiet dog as well, but I did not want him to feel left out so he would get a half of a heart shaped bite. The more often I gave them to the puppies, the longer it took for them to work, hence, the longer time in writing my review.

It finally got to where I would give the bites to the puppies between 5 and 6 so I could get them calmed down and settled between 8 and 9 pm. Most nights they slept until my alarm went off at 5 am. and I was very appreciated of this.

I have not tried other products like this before, but I have given the puppies vet prescribed trazodone and I believe that the calming bites worked better once the puppies laid down. They stayed asleep longer with the calming bites.

If you have active puppies or dogs, I do recommend giving these calming bites a try. I will definitely be purchasing them. ***I was given a free sample to try in return for my honest opinion of the product.

I wanted to try this prosense calming tablets for my senior dog, because he occasionally gets stressed and for my young Blue Heeler mix because she has excessive energy that living on 3 acres doesn’t wear off.

She is always on. so I thought this might help on occasion when there is a lot going on outside that keeps her on guard. I’m still haven’t found out if it helps. Apparently it tastes horrible, my senior who never hesitates to take vitamins spit it out and said “not going to happen” the other who would eat a rock was so reluctant and finally swallowed a small piece.

It does have a strong fragrance. I haven’t tried again but I will.

I bought this to help with my dog’s anxiety over riding in the car. My dog would not eat this supplement. It smells like the herbs it’s made out of and seems as though no flavoring has been added to entice a dog to want to eat it.

Trying to get him to eat it initially caused added anxiety rather then relieving any of his anxiety. I then tried grinding it up and hiding it in some canned food to see if it would help with anxiety.

He was still hesitant to eat it but did eventually consume all of it. I didn’t notice a reduction in anxiety after he consumed the supplement.

My Golden retriever is 9 years old and over the last year he has changed. Pooping and peeing in the house, stressing out and being destructive every time he is left alone. Our vet put him on anti depressants which helped but cost $$$.

Long story short, our dog seemed to exhibit symptoms consistent with Cushings. With his breed, old age, and symptoms, I was eager to do whatever I could to make him feel better. The DAY (April 30th) I purchased from Prana Pets, our dog got extremely sick and required hospitalization for 8 days in the ICU.

He was having a DKA episode and was diagnosed with pancreatitis and diabetes. The day after placing the order (May 1st), I attempted to cancel the order because I hadn’t received any shipping notifications.

I was told I couldn’t cancel because the order had already been sent to their warehouse for fulfillment (even though it wasn’t fulfilled yet). They told me I could either refuse the delivery for it to be returned automatically, but if I received it, I’d have to go through the process of returning it.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t home when it was delivered, so I wasn’t able to refuse the delivery. Because I had it, I thought I’d take it to my vet to see whether they thought it still may be helpful with his condition.

My primary vet and the emergency vet both advised against starting this because of his new diagnosis. When dogs have DKA episodes, even if they may have Cushings, there is no reliable test, because the results will always come back inconsistently.

With this, I now had to pay out of pocket to ship the product BACK to Prana Pets, because they don’t offer free returns. Upon getting confirmation of the return delivery, I assumed I’d have my refund in the time they quoted.

It is now June 13th, and I still have not received a refund. I’m out the $15 for return shipping, while continuing to wait on the $150 I spent on the original order. It’s been over SIX WEEKS, and I have had zero communication from this company.

Any follow-up regarding this return has been through me calling and inquiring about this. To make things even more frustrating, the card I used to make the purchase expired at the end of May, and no one at Prana Pets can tell me whether it’ll be issued to my card with the new expiration date.

After my most recent call to them, they now told me to call my bank to see how they’ll handle this. It’s honestly unbelievable. I cannot speak to the quality of the product, because we never used it, but the customer service is probably the worst I’ve ever experienced.

That may sound dramatic to some, but it’s honestly shocking that the customer has to jump through so many hoops, especially when I tried to be proactive from the beginning. After the advice of my vet, I would make sure this is appropriate for your animal, or you may end up in the same waiting and chasing game I’ve been in for over six weeks.

I previously purchased the Cushings Killer combo for my dog which was diagnosed by his vet with Cushings. I purchased this Melatonin several weeks later. I am sad to say that my dog did not get better and I had to put him to sleep.

Do not misunderstand what I wrote. I am not saying that the Cushings killer combo did not work. My issue is I ordered this Melatonin, received it the day I had to put my dog to sleep, called Prana Pets requesting to return product (Unopened) Which I returned December 2021, I paid for shipping with tracking as per their request.

As of 1/29/22 , I have not received a refund. They are quick to take an order over the phone, but when you have an issue they tend to say someone will contact you, to which I have sent them emails regarding my refund.

I had to put in a dispute with my credit card regarding this return.

My sweet 13 year old Shih Tzu Lola was diagnosed with Cushing’s a few months ago. Because of her age I thought I would start with a homeopathic approach first. She has traditionally not done well with medications.

She has just been on this combo for a short time, but I am seeing improvement in a short time. She’s been a picky eater her entire life, however part of Cushing’s is a constant appetite. She will eat anything and everything, so I’m just tossing this in with her night meal.

No problem — no pill pocket needed. I’m hopeful this will help my senior dog feel better.

I wish that I could have said yes to all the questions asked and have given it five stars but unfortunately I couldn’t. I have tried these tablets for 2 weeks now on my over excited springer spaniel who hates car journeys however short.

They havent made the slightest difference in her excitability or anxiety about going in the car. I bought the tablets for dogs 20kg + that’s 2 kilos heavier than my dog in hope that they may work. I gave her 1 tablet twice daily.

They would have been excellent value if they had worked.

One of my dogs has OCD and was anxious of almost everything. He has been on these pills aslong with my other dog for over 6 months. I noticed a difference with him when he started taking them he was not as jumpy, and was calmer when left the room as poor mite would moan and scratch door to get to me.

Was fine when went out as in cage which i call den with his sister. I trained him made a game of it so he felt comfortable in den with door open until was good to close door and leave. along with training he has come on leaps and bounds.

This has worked on both of my large breed puppies, when they have a slight stomach upset. My vet always tells me to give the pups chicken and rice when they have an upset tummy, but when you have pups that lick, sometimes try and eat everything they come across, in the house, garden and walks they would permanently be on rice and chicken.

At least with the stool firmer tablets you can give your pups their usual food.

I bought this for my 8 year old lab mix who wasn’t able to sleep through the night bc of her arthritis. She had also stopped having much of an appetite. I usually feed her blue buffalo senior and went on a trip and couldn’t find it so had to go with a different brand that wasn’t as good.

Little did I know she would get really inflamed, so not doing that again. The white willow bark was suggested to me by a chiropractor for myself and I thought I might try it on my dog. She is feeling much better after taking this for about two weeks.

I noticed that it relieved her pain right away, but it’s taken a couple weeks of suppressing the inflammation to see her fully recovered. She plays with her balls again and is eating again. When you pet her you can tell her body is less tense and she sleeps fully through the night.

I forgot to give it to her one night and she was up and down all night so can confirm- it does make a difference.

I got this for my dog who was experiencing pain. I know the pain was caused by playing with my other dog. I was specifically looking for a product with white willow bark and this product does contain white willow bark plus more helpful ingredients.

I wanted a safe and natural product. After 30 minutes of administering his pain was relieved and after using it twice a day for several days, he was pain free. I will make sure to include this in my dog’s first aid kit.

This product absolutely works. Big thanks to everyone on this review. I have a teacup pomeranian who is 11 years old. She was doing this shaking thing and panting. It completely freaked me out. I went to the vet each time this started to happen and every visit got more and more expensive.

The vet gave me some liquid for the pain and discomfort for my pom but it didn’t last and took time to work. This product worked right away. My teacup pomeranian is back up and running around again. Thank you all.

Works just the same as the benadryl brand name medication, just much cheaper. I would highly recommend it. It works great to help you sleep, with no risk of becoming dependent on them as they’re non habit forming.

It also works great if you suffer chronic all over the body itching like I do. Nothing much else helps, except Phenergan, but that gives me a sleep hangover, like jet lag, the next day. These don’t do that.

The itching used to keep me awake, but this stuff solved that problem.

I used this generally as a sleep aid and feel it works great. I normally take it an hour before going to bed and luckily no ‘hangover’ feeling in the morning from the product. I will also use this throughout the summer as an antihistamine as I’m prone to insect bite and this works great.

My 17 yr old Jack Russell is starting doggy dementia and would constantly lick the floor and lick the bedding. One week on one pill daily has curbed the obsessiveness. He’s calmer; doesn’t knock him out but it calms him.

I’m very satisfied with this, did not think it would work like it did to be honest. My dog is a crazy one and don’t get me started when there are other people in the house he goes nuts! This supplement has greatly improved one of my dog’s health after only a few weeks of use. Penny is our rescue mutt: she’s got some Golden Retriever and Korean Jindo in her, along with a mishmash of other breeds, but her coat and skin have always been in poor health.

Back in October we adopted a 4-month-old rescue puppy (Lab mix) who, while sweet as sugar, had/has a medical issue that prevented us from enrolling her in “Puppy Kindergarten” as we’d planned. As with a lot of rescue pups, she also has strong separation anxiety issues & timidity/fear of a lot of everyday stuff.

While our vet did give us a prescription for a mild sedative, I haven’t yet filled it, & after seeing a few tv commercials for this company & reading a lot of reviews, decided to give their “Calming” product a try.

She’s a solid 40# now, but I first only gave her one chew just to make sure she wasn’t allergic to any of the ingredients. No reactions, so the following day I gave her two & what a difference!! This product does NOT zonk the dog out at all – she behaves normally, but just with some of the lunatic edge taken off.

We don’t give it to her every day, as she’s not a nut every day, but it definitely helps for those times when she seems overly anxious or crazy, & will be a big help until we are finally able to get her into socialization opportunities & obedience classes.

Bottom Line: While I obviously wish the product was a little less expensive, I do understand that you get what you pay for as far as quality, & natural ingredients are always (for whatever reason) more expensive than synthetics.

My 11-yr old gun-shy coonhound is petrified of loud noises, so Independence Day is a challenge. Tried all kinds of “calming chews” in the past. At best, they made him sleepy but still afraid, and at worst they contained brewers’ yeast and other apparent allergens that induced ear infections).

HomePet Fireworks contains no such allergens, so it was a last resort. I was admittedly late in dosing him (some fireworks had begun, so he had already started trembling and dove down into the basement.

Tried to administer directly into his mouth, but wasn’t sure how much he ingested since he was already drooling and may have spit some out. So I put drops on his favorite wet food, and he ate it right up.

I admit that I may have over dosed him, but knowingly did so because 1) he already had a full stomach, so I worried the effect would take a while; and 2) he was already so scared. He stayed in the basement a little while, then shocked us by coming upstairs to hang out while fireworks continued.

We even had some windows open for cool breeze, but the sounds he thinks are gunshots did not cause him to shake and hide anymore. Nor did HomeoPet Fireworks make him drowsy, so the advertising is accurate.

I am very happy with this product for anxiety. My 7 year old English Creme Retriever I adopted in August 2021 was a retired breeder dog. She had a lot of fears when she came to me. This is the 3rd home for her as her original owner passed away.

She had no training like sit, down etc and would not get in my car etc. She was very afraid of stairs etc. It was a challenge with her but with this product she was much less fearful which helped with her training etc.

Now that I have had her 4 months she is doing all these things like sit, down etc and my biggest surprise is I finally got her to get in the bathtub. She had always been professionally groomed. I am 81 years old and not able to lift her into a bathtub so with lots of treats, patience etc.

this product was a huge help to her to gain more confidence. Previous product I had used made her sick. I tend to use natural products if at all possible and was so glad to find an homeopathic product.

I just added the drops to her water bowl every day. For the past month I have not even had to use any drops as she is doing great now. She really has gotten so she trusts me now. She is one of the sweetest and mellow dogs I have ever had.

My 11month old, healthy kitten just suddenly started projectile vomiting for no particular reason. He coughed up a hairball that morning, but kept on vomitting particularly after eating. I was concerned about the possibility of a blockage but also noticed that he’d eaten a few leaves from the lucky bamboo plant in our house,.

He’s a plant eater so I had gotten rid of all of my plants but forgot this one. He didn’t seem to be otherwise distressed and wanted to eat his food, but he just couldn’t hold it down. I bought the Feline Digestive Upsets for him and gave it to him with his next meal along with a few drops in his water and he was immediately able to keep his food down! Within an hour he was back to his old self! I gave him a few more doses over the next 24 hours to be sure and after that kept a few drops in his water just in case, but he did not vomit anymore after the first dose! This product works as described–of course, assuming there is no other more serious issue.

I was skeptical about whether these would work or not, but they do! My dog has separation anxiety and gets worked up during storms. The separation anxiety is only mild, no tearing things up but she is stressed.

Storms she would pace, pant heavily, scratch and dig the carpet and try to squeeze into tight places. I have prescription medicine but it sedated her to much for a regular basis. I wanted something that would just calm her.

These actually work! I give her the recommended allowance and then when a storm comes I use the spray to mist over her. She still senses the storm but isn’t antsy, more just wanting to sit next to me.

Huge improvement. I can’t speak if this would help for pets that are dangerously destructive but great for mild cases.

While our multiple dog family members show no signs of stress during thunderstorms, they do become unsettled hearing fireworks. In years past we have used calming RX from our veterinarian. NYE celebrations go on for days where we live.

Seeking an alternative to RX we chose to try Petbliss this year. We followed the suggested dosage several days leading up to NYE. Happy to say all six dogs of various ages and breeds were relaxed and able to interact without showing signs of stress.

This product does not completely ‘zonk’ a dog out (which we liked) and results will vary dog to dog. We plan to keep it on hand and use this again as needed. As always ordering and delivery communication by Chewy was great.

We have a very separation anxiety filled 2 year old rescue pittie. We have had her almost 2 months. While she has settled in with us as her new owners, she isn’t a fan of when we have to leave. She does not like her kennel and while out of it she has destroyed some household items while we weren’t at home.

I think these chews have helped her some and while using another product with it she has started to settle down for a few hours a day. I will order more. She really likes the taste of them and no problems giving them to her.

I think it might be working. I purchased this 1. 5 weeks ago and only finally started giving her 1 pill consistently for the last 2-3 days. And any form of medication can take atleasr 15 days to adjust a body.

It says under 55lbs gets half a tab twice a day. She is under 55lbs but I still gave her 1 full pill in the morning with her breakfast then I give her CBD chews in the PM with her dinner. What really shocked me was last night when I was on the phone with a friend, she actually calmed herself down on the couch after a few minutes.

Usually she is all up in my space or trying to get into something to get my attention. She actually laid down on the couch and tried to sleep. Sooooo maybe the medication is working?! 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Our veterinarian recommended this for an aggressive cat. When we saw it was a pill, we were afraid since it’s not always easy to pill a cat. However, our cat really likes these treats that supposedly taste like liver and chicken.

There was a sticker over the directions, so the 1st time we gave him a whole pill. Then I looked up this product and discovered that the dose is 1/2 pill twice a day. The box we received expires at the end of next month.

I have a Huskie/German shepherd female dog. About 5 months old, 60 lbs. My fur baby is extremely hyperactive. From the time her feet touch the floor she is a go getter. I noticed if I leave her unattended too long for example, when I’m at work, I come home to torn shoes , broken house items , house or back yard a complete wreck.

This Rx is prescribed for my Siberian Husky, Ryleigh. I never knew that her name would really fit her so well until she started getting older and I realized that it was going to be exceptionally hard to break the habits her previous owners had let her get accustomed to.

In fact, the entire reason they wanted to rehome her is because they couldn’t get her under control, and they didn’t know how to handle a Husky, in my opinion. I have previous experience with Siberian Huskies and never came across one like her.

She gets 20 miles of walking, 5+ hours a day of play in the large backyard with my German Shepherd and my Belgian Malinois every single day. She has several toys to chew and play with during the rest of the day.

However, she would prefer to sit and, not howl, but screech like nail are being ran on a chalkboard repeatedly. She never howls. I don’t think she knows how. I’ve never heard her bark. She screeches.

She whines with a ver high pitch. That is all. After a year of trying and training, she knows all her commands, but no one can make her stop with the screeching and whining. She does it when she’s hungry, if she’s not the first to go outside, if she’s not the first to come inside, etc.

Basically, she needs to be first at everything or she has a drama queen fit. She also does the loudest screeching that she can at the vets office when they check her temp, or if you are putting a flea topical on her.

She has been checked, nothing wrong with her bum, no reaction to the topicals. Physically she is in amazing health. My vet calls her the extra special husky. She is a very smart dog, but this habit of hers.

it won’t go away. My husband was at his wits end, and I was getting there. My vet prescribed this medication for her, and will it does not preform miracles, she screeches less. The only reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is because the effects are obviously wearing off 6 hours before the next dose.

I have a new to me 7 yr old Shih tzu who apparently has never been outside it’s fenced yard. He goes nuts when taken anywhere. Has never been to a vet and was a nightmare at the groomer needing to muzzled.

His fear level is horrifying and I was so scared for him. Vets could not check him out until he was medicated. Trazodone helps calm him to where he can be groomed and vet checked. He’s had shots and teeth cleaned.

His life is so much better with Trazodone for outings.

My dog is sixteen years old and I have noticed a lot of change recently. She’s been having a lot anxiety issues and will pace back and forth restless through out the day. Also I noticed her being more nervous than usually in her same pattern such as going for walks or around us and she will just tremble.

I was recommend trazodone for my dog and heard positive reviews. I just ordered and hopes this help calm her.

This has really helped our dog, who was having anxiety and panic attacks late at night, with panting, trembling, and basically sitting on top of us. I tried several natural remedies, distractions and behavioral modification tricks, (examples – pheromone spray, frozen Kong stuffed with peanut butter) for a couple of weeks, to no avail, before taking him to the vet for complete blood work, which came back very healthy.

We also have always taken our dogs out for a daily 2-mile walk. Our dog has always been a bit of a quirky and anxious type dog, whom we love, but the vet thinks with age, it got somewhat worse. Note to pet owners; it did take a couple of weeks for the medicine to take, along with dosage and timing.

Our dog is 11 years old, 60 lbs and he takes half in the morning, half in the afternoon and half to one at night. After some trial and error, that seemed to do the trick. Every now and then, he does need the whole pill at night when he displays signs of night time anxiety, but thankfully no more panting and trembling.

5 stars for the meds, 2 stars for Vet RX Direct. TraZODONE and Prozac together have been a God send for my dog’s severe anxiety. I have ordered through VetRXDirect monthly for 14 months. When they are good, they are good, but there are many order delays.

I had on my account to call the vet rather than fax and email concerns because these lead to more delays. When your dog is on Prozac or a medicine they need daily you can’t afford delays, and that’s the case with Prozac.

It was a constant battle to get the drugs on time and in the end someone did not see the “call vet for approval” in my account and I have now been waiting for 12 days with 3-5 days shipping paid for and my dog is the one who suffers.

Farrel at VetRXDirect apologized that they could not meet my needs, but did not own up to the mistake. I have to comment about the special discount I was offered through email, 5% off the order. However when I went you use it, I thought it was in addition to the daily 10% off that is always, but the stipulation was you could only use one discount so it was the 5% or the daily 10%.

Although I don’t like putting medication into our young 1 1/2 year old dog, it keeps our pup calm enough as to where we can get through a day without stress on our mind, bodies and health. We’ve tried every type of training and now question if she came from a neglected litter.

Puppy mill. We weren’t allowed to go to their home and see parents and other pups “because her husband worked 2nd shift. ” Red flag; yes. but so cute, bought our baby Cane Corso/Italian Mastiff anyway.

Learning lesson. Cuddly and sweet on meds (and without mostly too) but often WAY too much aggression too. : (.

My Dogs really like these tablets and eat them without any problem, they are fussy eaters, so can be anti any type of tablet, so congratulations these must be tasty.

Delivered on time he’s has taken too the tablets. Hope they settle him down.

I am appalled at reviews that expect this medication to work in 6 days? It takes a full 4-6 weeks for this medication to take effect in the dogs system. And it might not be the right dose yet. You need an rx so you should be working with a vet who should advise you of this, and you are your pets advocate so do your own research.

Also, does anyone think it might be helpful to leave your dogs weight and dose when reviewing? I find that helpful as I’m trying to compare what worked for others in a similar situation. We are adopted a jack Russell beagle mix from a shelter that had only been at the shelter for two weeks and was found as a stray so we know no history on her.

We do not know if her anxieties developed from us not doing the proper things when we brought home a rescue dog, leaving her alone too soon, leaving her during rain, creating her. She clawed and chewed our door frame a few days later, and she obviously has isolation anxiety.

Any human can be present but she cannot be alone. We worked with a behaviorist, an in home trainer, and we behavior modification, puzzle toys, automated treat dispensers and many other things to help our pup.

She needs medication to be able to learn. So far we have started at a low dose of clomicalm and been increasing by 5mg doses every 4weeks. It has been slow, months, but we think 40mg might be the dose for our 28lb beagle mix.

She is starting to be more sleepy and calm, not as reactive to leaving cues, and able to be left for 30min with a treat toy as a distraction. We have tried prozac prior to this but when her success in training was broken by a family member picking her up hours after we left her, she was pushed to panic and we could not get her back to where she was so we think the prozac was not effective.

We have hope for this medication. My main point is this takes time to work, and when you leave a review, think about why you are leaving it and elaborate so it’s actually useful. Not it worked, it didn’t work.

That doesn’t tell anyone the situation, dose, weight of animal, condition using it for. Those actually trying to help our pets and gain normalcy in our life are seeking information to draw conclusions, to ask our vet questions etc.

We were advised to start these tablets for our Lab/Border Collie Cross who has exhibited anxiety and separation anxiety that’s either genetic or due to the pandemic. We got her as a puppy and worked from home without human contact so, she gets nervous and feels like she needs to protect us when people approach us.

We are also working with a dog trainer to help us, help her. Apparently the drugs take a few weeks to kick in a lower their anxiety but, we are about two weeks in and see a mild difference in her. We hope this helps her and will keep the anxiety down until we cease use of the drug.

First of all let me state my vet prescribed half a pill a day for my neutered male senior eight year old cat. He’s been on the medication almost six months now. He began showing anxiety and spraying all over the house whenever he saw a cat in the back yard.

I have used Feliway plug ins, and other calming aids but nothing was working. I clean the litter box two to four times a day. I even use fox urine in the yard to deter cats, raccoons and other animals from coming into my yard.

He wasn’t sleeping, and kept meowing and yowling, The vet said to allow thirty days for the drug to get into his system, but it worked from the very first dose. No spraying, no meowing, no pacing or running from window to window, not going into the litter box every fifteen minutes to urinate a small bit or dig around.

No excessive grooming. I send a written report to my vet every month with updates. He sleeps the normal fourteen or so hours a day, birds in the yard don’t agitate him as much. The only negative side effect I’ve encountered is he seems to have some elimination issues.

Every other month I’ve found a couple pieces of feces in the house. Once near the litter box, in the living room, and in the kitchen where he sits to eat. I think he might be dribbling a little urine as he licks himself a bit more.

He’s not meowing or stressed and otherwise goes into the litter box normally. It’s a lot easier to clean up a couple pieces of feces than cat urine spray.
