20 Best Sleep Medication For Elderly (2023 Updated)

I found out recently these pills are actually just Benadryl marketed as a sleep aid. If I take melatonin it tends to make me slightly drowsy but sometimes it’s not enough to fall asleep. When I take jet asleep I’m out in a matter of 30 minutes! It doesn’t help me to stay asleep or wake up feeling refreshed but without these I’d never be able to fall asleep naturally! In the past I have used items that were unsafe such as Tylenol PMs every night or NyQuil every night which both can have adverse effects! So taking benedryl/jet sleeps makes me feel slightly better because I already am prescribed benedryl for allergies so I just take it at night as needed!.

I can’t brag on this stuff enough!!! As a terrible insomniac I rarely find anything that works. But let me tell you, this DOES!!! I take the recommended amount and I’m asleep with an hour. I stay asleep.

Many OTC and some prescribed aids do not last all night. The only problem that I’ve ever had with this product is that it’s hard to find. Dollar General is the only one locally that carries it, and word must’ve gotten out because it’s typically out of stock.

These do absolutely nothing for me, but I’m resistant to most sleep aids. Melatonin does nothing for me, got a script for zopiclone once, which my physicians were shocked did nothing except give me an unpleasant taste in my mouth.

Antihistamines also do nothing to me, including this one. No, I’ve not become tolerant of all these drugs because I never used anything in the zopiclone class and I only use antihistamines for nausea or colds.

Giving this three stars because I know it will work for most people for occasional sleep difficulties. Like all sleep aids you don’t want to take these for nights on end. You also want to take early because you are likely to be groggy next morning otherwise.

I only take one per night. It seems to relax and comfort me. The recommended amount is two, but when I take two I feel a bit groggy in the morning. I need to get up pretty early every day, therefore I must get to sleep early when I get to bed.

i have purchased these in store. i like how each dose is 2 pills. 2 of these make me groggy. a half dose works great. sleep through the night and no grogginess the next day. i work with heavy machinery so the half dose is perfect.

Great for nights when you just can’t fall asleep. Active ingredient is Diphenhydramine HCI. Take as directed. Non habit forming. They really work! Just as good as name brand and saves money.

I went off my prescription also medicine and swapped to this over the counter sleep aid. I have to tell you it works as well or better for me than the prescription did. I also dont have any of the hangover, groggy feeling I got with the prescription.

It works but my body fights it. When I am asleep I have insanely vivid and ostentatious dreams. I also feel groggy the next morning. I take it if I really need sleep but due to the way it affects me, it’s a total mixed bag.

I have been buying these for better then 10 yrs. They work great. I’ve pd 4. 00 dollars. Went to buy this morning they raised price to $9. 36 couldn’t believe it. Spoke to a worker about it she said something not right.

Told me talk to manager so I did. Manager tells me everything went up cuz of everything that’s going on. Tried explaining about other products etc. She was rude and wouldn’t check into it.

i love this stuff so much. i’ve tried many things and this works so much better than Ibuprofen PM and melatonin. i have insomnia and anxiety and once i take this , 30 minutes later i am so drowsy. literally can’t even believe it’s so cheap.

I use these when I travel to California for work so I can sleep soundly and fall asleep when I need to. It says it takes 15-20 minutes to kick it and it is true. I take it at 8:45pm and am asleep by 9 or just after.

The past two months has been a 2020 nightmare of prescribed meds side effects that kept me up many nights due to a REALLY bad case of sinusitus that has triggered sleep anxiety. Before I only had very minor sleep issues now I have MAJOR sleep issues, I only would take 25mg of diphenhydramine and sleep peacefully in the past, now that doesn’t even work! While having sinusitus, I took some night time cough syrup one night and actually felt REALLY sleepy.

When I looked at the meds on the back, it had an Acetaminophen (650mg), dextromethorphan (20mg), phenylephrine (10mg) and DOXYLAMINE SUCCINATE (12. 5). I researched all of them and found that the Doxylamine Succinate causes the sleepiness.

Now that my sinuses are better, I still needed a sleep aid to help with my unfortunate newly developed insomnia. My doctor prescribed me clonazepam (0. 5mg) and trazondone (100mg). It helped me sleep about 5 hours and would take me about a hour to doze off.

I’ve taken trazodone in the past from a friend but thought diphenhydramine was better. So, I reduced the trazodone down to 50mg vs 100mg and substituted half of it that with 25mg of Doxylamine Succinate.

I now fall asleep within’ 20 or 30 minutes. IF THAT! I sleep no less than 5 hours (6 to 8 on weekends) and this $4 box of sleep aid has been pure greatness for me. I plan to eventually wean from the trazadone and clonazepam by Janurary because this medication I think will be an excellent aid in doing it.

It may not be for everyone but for those who are really insomniacs and struggle with sleep, looking for help by reading/researching reviews as I’ve done in the past, I felt the need to post this for you guys to see.

I have used this product for 21 years and usually 1/2 will work to put me to sleep and keep me to sleep; however, they have recently changed their coating on the tablet from white to blue. It no longer works.

I even started to take a whole one instead of a half without great success. I might sleep a little. I don’t know what happened but it does not work for me anymore. Maybe it works for you. I have to find something else now.

I take these daily because I have quite bad insomnia. For years I was taking prescription sleep aids. But one dr would prescribe it and another would take me off. Because they can become rather addictive.

So I found these in Walmart one day and have used them ever since. I have no groggy feeling in the morning. They usually last about 7 hours for me. I’ve tried other OTC brands but this is the only one that is reasonably priced and has the doxylamine succinate in it.

Every other I’ve seen has the same active ingredient as Benadryl. Which in that case you should just buy Benadryl. But I’d have to say it won’t last nearly as long IMO.

I was a little reluctant to try this but so glad I did. Sometimes my hips start to hurt in the night, but I didn’t have any problem like that. If I went to bed with a backache or something I took this and had no trouble sleeping.

The bonus I actually slept all night, even if I woke up I could go right back to sleep. This is a very well coated round pill, easy to swallow. I did wake up feeling pretty good. I only took 1 pill and it worked good for me.

However I am a little sensitive to medicine like this.

What is going on with you walmart??? You have an extremely PATHETIC inventory!!! HONESTLY you need to update your website to align accurately with your horrifically limited stock. You used to be a great place to shop, now you just make yourself look foolish, while angering your customers.

It works. I took this for 8 months of my pregnancy, doctor recommended it, and it definitely made me fall asleep sooner but mainly helped my morning sickness. Without this I couldnt even drink water.

While this did put me to sleep faster it did not make me stay asleep if something more urgent was happening (needing to go to the bathroom or my toddler crying). I really loved that while it worked it didnt make me oblivious to the wake world.

The tablets are very small and easy to take.

These are non-habit forming and work very well. I’ve used them for years and the effect does not change. Within 20-30 minutes of taking one I’m barely able to keep my eyes open. They don’t leave me feeling groggy the next morning like Benadryl does.

I am so glad that Wal-Mart has these to offer. The price is great compared to name brands and also it is very hard to find this particular “type” of sleep-aid. Most of them are Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and I can’t take that.

If you can’t either. these work great. No groggy feeling in the morning either. Give them a try.

I take 2 before going to sleep. For the past 2 weeks I’ve averaged 7-8 hours of sleep per night. I wake up feeling energized, not groggy & lagging like similar products made me in the past. I would be scared to take others afraid I’d over sleep.

This gave me the perfect rest I needed to get back on track. This is the 1st time I’ve averaged over 5-6 hours a day, sometimes less, in years. I feel better and my metabolism has boosted from getting proper rest.
