20 Best Skin Serum For Acne (2023 Updated)

I am a 42-year-old who just recently started battling acne for the first time ever; on top of that, my skin is aging, so I feel like I am battling two things at once. My friends call me “crunchy” since I prefer to use organic brands like Juice Beauty or Andalou Naturals, but my usual go-to acne products were not helping my most recent flare-up of pimples.

I decided to ignore ingredients for once and try something new and I was pleasantly surprised to find a product that tackles both fine lines and acne at the same time. I bought it without batting an eye, despite the hefty price tag.

The first night I used it, it did seem to help with acne and my skin felt like oily than it had; however, I did notice my skin seemed red and agitated. It was not anything awful like breaking out in a rash or hives, just not happy skin.

After my third or fourth night of use, I noticed that it was having an effect on a mole I have had for at least 10 years. Y’all, I’m not even lying, but this product destroyed my mole. Now, I was not emotionally attached to this mole, but my mole never hurt anyone and it was fine just sitting there on my face.

This product killed it — it was like it ate it off of my skin. Yes, I know that sounds disgusting, but that’s literally what happened. After the 4th time and me noticing my mole dying, I stopped using the product altogether.

It was too late to save my mole. (RIP mole) While I want something to kill my acne, I think it’s a little too strong if it can do that to a perfectly fine mole. IDK. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I have never had a face product do that before.

It should be noted that I do tend to have sensitive skin, so others may not experience the issues I did. I am attaching a picture of the current status of my skin where the mole WAS.

I have been using this product for over 4 years and I have had wonderful skin ever since a week after I started using it. I am in my early 30s and I bought this after going to the counter with a breakout of acne and having an assistant recommend it.

It clearee my breakout in days but not only that- I noticed it made my skin glow to the point that people were saying how well I looked and people comment on my skin regularly. As I’m very pale skinned it is a good test of the effectiveness of the product as when skin is a fair as mine EVERY imperfection shows up but like I said, it’s clear and glowing.

I finally wrote this review as I recently tried the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair given all the amazing reviews after getting a free sample, it retails at £18 dearer for the same amount of product as made absolutely no difference to my skin despite me searching for any, obviously the Clinique serum appears to be doing everything a far more expensive product is.

My only problem is the packaging- far too big a bottle for 30ml and makes me feel guilty about the plastic waste. Considering how Clinique make large sizes of other products which works out at less packaging overall they should also at least do a 50ml size.

Clinique should take a lead from other brands and put their serums in the necessary sized bottles.

I bought this product because I get acne here and there and have mild acne scars that I was hoping this product would help eliminate. I have used this product twice daily and everyday as instructed. I have been patient to even give it some time to work.

My acne had gotten worse and left darker marks that do not seem to disappear with this product. I feel like this product does nothing but clogs my pores. I was hoping to find a solution to a clear and acne- free face, BUT this project has definitely disappointed me.

Summary: Used a WHOLE bottle of this serum and my skin looked its best ever! So, Im 30 year old skin of colour person. I have very dry sensitive acne prone dull skin so its very tricky to find a suitable product and NEVER has a product worked well for me.

While i was using this serum i had a natural glow, my blemishes all disappeared and texture was a LOT better. Ever since i finished every drop of this serum in the bottle none of my blemish came back! Its been over a month ( almost two months) since i finished the bottle due to busy routine i couldn’t reorder so my pigmentation is reappearing and texture is again getting a bit rought however i still have zero new blemish! P.

s: i used this product in conjuction with clarifying cleanser. However i applied this a lot more regularly than the cleanser.

About to buy my second bottle. This is a great and very gentle product. It really does help my combination acne/breakout-prone skin. I especially notice the difference when I have to wear face masks for 12h a day.

I apply a few drops (less is more) in the evening every other day followed by a basic moisturiser (I use tretinoin on alternate days) and can really tell the soothing and calming effect it has on my skin, in addition to preventing and/or treating existing breakouts).

I also have the 15% azeleic acid serum which is great but found that this one works just as well (you don’t always have to go for higher concentration, lower % can work just fine). Great product and I would really struggle to find an alternative for it that combines all those ingredients and delivers the result this serum does for this price.

I bought this serum about a month ago. Never used anything like that before so went crazy using it twice a day and started purging like crazy. Spoke to the amazing customer service who explained to me that it’s normal and should go away.

They also sent me a link to have a read through to understand what was happening with my skin. For the next week or so I would have a new spots every day but was disappearing almost over night as I was still very persistent with my serum which was visibly reducing my oiliness and the size of my pores from the very first day.

After about 2 weeks my spots disappeared and now my skin is super soft, pores are visibly reduced so if I’m wearing make up it actually looks flawless and it keeps my oiliness at bay. Probably the first product in my life which actually improved my skin as I was struggling with a very oily, acne prone skin and really enlarged pores my entire life.

Please give it a time to work. You won’t regret it!.

This product has really helped my oily, acne prone skin! My face looks better than it has in my entire life thanks to this product and a few others! The absolute only thing I don’t like about this serum is sometimes combined with other products it will make them pill up on your skin but the results are so impressive I’ve been able to overlook that issue.

I also really like the bottle. I use Olehenriksen Find your balance oil control cleanser, and every few days I will use with it, after that I use Olehenriksen Balancing Force oil control toner, then the juice beauty serum which I use every other day along with and either Hanhoo Blemish moisturizer or Olehenriksen Pore remedy moisturizer.

This combination has worked wonders for me! I also use and similar products once or twice a week as well. My skin has never been so clear!! I only break out now when my period is coming which is AMAZING FOR ME!! And my skin feels nice not constantly oily and gross! I am so happy I found these products! If you have oily, acne prone, stubborn skin like mine give this combination a try and it could work for you too! 😊.

I thankfully don’t have full on acne anymore, but still get some blemishes every now and then, recently the mask has caused a bit more than usual, I think. I have traditionally used The Body Shop tee trea product, which is good – but I used the sample I got of this stuff and was pretty blown away – and consider I only got to use a sample amount (it lasted three days on a particular spot I was addressing – that’s all I needed, though!).

This is much more efficient and, as some others have noted, it makes your skin glowy and taut – so, extra benefits! haha! I wonder if it would take away my double chin if I apply enough. hahahahah. Seriously, though – so far I have been so very impressed with the efficacy of Juice Beauty products – they are worth the expense, and I’m now a loyal stem cellular and blemish clearing (serum) user.

That they are so natural and wonderful is icing on the cake (first, it needs to work! ;-).

I have acne that is relatively well controlled with Tretinoin. I like to supplement that with other (AHA and/or BHA) chemical exfoliation treatments on days that I don’t use the Tretinoin. I wasn’t expecting a lot from this because of the mixed reviews.

It contains quite a lot of plant extracts and also fragrance oils that can be irritating. I would not recommend for skin sensitive to that. It does have vitamin c and coq10 as well as other ingredients that are strengthening, calming and brightening.

It’s sort of a mixed bag. I also don’t think it would be effective for severe acne. The product is easy to apply and layer and did not cause any irritation on my skin. It does not seem to have prevented any blemishes for me but my skin tone is more even and brighter.

I think there are better serums for managing blemishes with less chance of irritation.

After so much of research, I got to know about Minimalist products. With so much faith, I ordered complete skincare range. And boom! Worst decision ever. My skin has becomw 10 times worse. New skin issues have evolved like bumped skin, hundreds of tiny white acnes, uneven tone and darker skin.

With the very first use, I saw my skin getting affected but I kept listening to them. And best part is their customer support. That is worse. You keep mailing them and they will leave you in limbo, on what to do next.

Worst experience ever I swear. I don’t even like looking at my face in mirror. Have become so mucj conscious of my face ever since I have started using this, just in hope of seeing better results, but they just doesn’t come.

As indicated, the product works really well on my oily skin-type. I was worried if it would be too harsh for daily usage, but exfoliating once (preferably at PM) a day has proven to be beneficial. I used it with the minimalist moisturiser, Vitamin B5 10% and they work pretty well together.

I experienced some purging but it lasted for about two weeks, after which, there has been some subtle change in my skin. Break outs have reduced a bit and there seems to be a natural glow. Overall, my skin texture looks more even-toned.

However, there hasn’t been much difference in my acne scars. It’s only been a month but hopefully they’ll go away in time. (Recommended for Oily skin).

Used to have hundreds of TINY BUMPS on my CHEEKS, around the NOSE, CHIN and between the brows (filaments/closed pores). These were filled with sebum but I couldn’t conceivably squeeze every one of them.

Having used the salicylic acid for 2 weeks, about 85% are gone. I have oily skin, so the hyaluronic acid serum is also essential. I think if I’m more regular about moisturising, they should go completely.

I use this product for wound care. It is recommended to dilute the tea tree oil with a carrier oil such as olive oil or coconut oil or another cosmetic oil such as jojoba or shea. Tea tree oil has very strong antiseptic qualities.

I generally use olive oil as it contains skin healing properties as well. Straight tea tree oil can irritate sensitive skin types. I have found that my skin can tolerate it undiluted, but I’ve been using it for decades.

I was recommended this product by a dermatologist after a hydrofacial. I was looking for something to maintain my skincare routine. I only suffer from hormonal acne at my time of month, one or two zits at most.

After trying this product, the first couple days it felt great on my face. Then I started getting acne all over in areas that I don’t normally break out (forehead, cheeks, above lips). Two huge painful zits appeared on my chin, I wanted to cry.

This product worsened my acne and overdried my skin making irritation worst. I’m upset for the dermatologist telling me I’d be able to use this product safely every night, alternating on days I use the Glycolic Acid overnight.

It’s been a month, and I still haven’t gotten my face back to normal. I want to cry and don’t want to leave my house.

I’m in my late 20s and constantly struggle with my oily acne-prone skin. As a healthcare worker I wear a mask about 50 hours a week, and this has caused me to persistently have acne along my jawline and chin.

I also have PIH residually from my acne as well. I had heard wonderful things about this serum along with their Vit C serum through influencers and dermatologists that I follow on social media. I initially tried the Silymarin Vit C serum and I love it.

I left a review on it, but it brightened my skin and helped with the PIH I had from my acne, however it did not reduce the amount of breakouts I was having. I added Blemish & Age Defense about a month after trying the Vit C serum.

It is thicker than the Vit C serum and leaves a slightly tacky finish, but that goes away with the addition of a moisturizer. I did not find it too drying on my skin, but I could see how those with sensitive skin may only want to wear it once a day or every other day to avoid irritation.

I put it on twice a day for 2 weeks, and by the end of those two weeks (I actually think day 11 or 12) I did not have any active pimples on my face and my PIH was fading even faster! I since have backed it off to once a day -only at night (or every other night if I am perfectly clear).

It has drastically reduced the amount of adult acne I have and the scarring it would leave afterwards. I will continue to repurchase and keep in my skincare routine.

Pros: I like the smooth feel of the skin right after application. It looks like the skin has no bad after effects for me. In general I believe it’s a great firming cream for the night and gives the skin a great moisture.

Cons: It gives a lot of cream by one press, it’s enough to cover a full neck with it as well and I don’t know what’s an appropriate dosage. My first use the skin was itchy for a bit and then I got used to it without any visible defects or pain.

Take with care and of irritation continued discounts the use. I would suggest the company to leave a print of product use and description at least for acid or highly complex products in their packaging.

I’d heard a lot about Retinol before and its benefits of increasing cell turnover to treat concerns of wrinkles/fine lines, acne and milia which is something I have dealt with for a long time. But if your skin is already blemish prone and you start a retinol treatment, your skin is going to purge meaning its going to get worse before it gets better.

This can last up to 8-12 weeks varying between people. It seems like a long time to wait for results but it is beyond worth it. I am 6 weeks in using this amazing product and I haven’t seen my skin look so clear in such as long time, my milia is practically gone! There were times during the purging stage I wanted to stop the treatment all together as I was getting more blemishes that usual, but this is just the Retinol getting all the junk out sooner rather than later.

Highly recommend this product for your Retinol journey as it has other qualities of vitamin C and hyaluronic acid.

A miracle in a bottle! The directions suggest 1-2 drops for the entire face…lol… I make sure to use enough to actually cover my face (avoiding my eyes).

This serum, which combines Vitamin C , Hyaluronic Acid and Salicylic Acid does wonders for my skin. After I cleanse my face and apply the serum, it locks in my skins moisture and helps to keep my acne at bay! My skin has a nice dewy look to it thanks to this product.

I recently picked up the during the Sephora VIB Spring Sale. I developed a few under the skin bumps on my face after having a bad reaction to a new product I had tried out, so was searching for a product that could possibly help with that.

After scrolling through Sephora’s website I came across this product and decided try it out based on the reviews. The star ingredients of this product are niacinamide and zinc-oxide which are great for targeting under the surface bumps and pimples.

I applied this product on the bumps before I went to bed did notice that they were slightly smaller and less inflamed the next morning. However, this is not a miracle product in which your pimples/bumps will be gone by the next day.

It definitely takes consistent use and patience to see results! The reason I’m taking off one star is due to the smell and consistency of this product. It has a strong sulphuric scent to it which some people may find off-putting.

I also was not prepared for how incredibly watery this product is! It will slip down your fingers in a millisecond, so definitely be prepared! Also remember to give the bottle a good shake before using it.

This is the HOLY GRAIL to pimples! As soon as I feel one coming up, I apply the buffering lotion once (sometimes twice) a day and most smaller blemishes just disappear! I do get cystic acne around my menstrual cycle and again, once I feel the cyst coming in, I start applying the buffering lotion religiously.

While it doesn’t always make the cystic zit disappear, it definitely lessens it and very rarely does it ever come to a head. NOTE: this is a liquid, not a lotion. Not sure why they call it that. Be sure to shake it before every application.

I use this for any stubborn pimple or the under the chin painful ones. Use a clean finger and put it to the tip, tilt it to get just the smallest amount onto finger. Dab onto the bump. That way you aren’t wasting product or having this watery product spill everywhere.

I had blemishes all over my face, started using niacinamide from August 2021 in my AM routine for 4 months. It reduced my blemishes to a great extent. Made my skin smoother than before. It has healed a lot.

Its Feb 2022 now, purchased another bottle. It works well on my blemishes. You need to be dedicated to your skincare routine and do not expect overnight results. Once your skin gets used to the product it starts showing signs of improvement.

Have patience. Since my acne condition was severe, I had lot of blemishes. so I knew it won’t go away in a month or two. Depending on the status of your skin, the progress differs. For me, it’s working wonders.

And yes, not to forget. it gave an added glow that was missing for the past decade. My skin is alive. finally.

So, I stumbled upon be minimalist’s products in Jan 21 while looking to buy the likes of Paula’s choice and the ordinary. Read the detailed product descriptions on this website, the reviews and decided to make a purchase.

I got hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and Aha+bha peel. After a few trials and errors (mixing the wrong products/ not understanding what works when) I discovered how wonderfully niacinamide worked for me.

My problem – adult acne due to masking/ lack of water intake/ high sugar intake – permanent marks post acne Solution – focused on clearing the skin of acne and just used niacinamide (morning+sunscreen), (night+retinol) Improvement – in texture, none to lightened marks, no blackheads/ whiteheads.

Result time frame – give it atleast 10-15 days to show actual the difference and about 30-45 days for consistent improvement. Applications – 3-4 times a week (twice a day). Not regular at it still. Didn’t work for me with hyaluronic acid.

But I have combination skin + live in a hot and humid city. Will try again in winters. Let’s see how it works. Buy it if you want to bring back some life to your skin. PS – other lifestyle changes would still be required, but this can help speed up the process.

I had high hopes for this product based on the ingredient list, however my skin just did not like it. I felt a slight burning sensation upon application, not terrible, but I could feel it. The burning subsided but my skin then turned red and stayed red for about 2 hours.

I wrongly assumed that my skin would adjust to the product but the same thing happened each time I used it. After a few days my skin started to break out. The serum has a sticky consistency and mine had little grainy things in it that I think could be the ascorbic acid.

It is not fragranced but has a smell (it’s not unpleasant) that goes away after a while. While it spreads easily, it remained sticky on my skin for over an hour and after it soaked in my skin was shiny and oil production increased, making me much shinier than usual.

Overall, I don’t think this is ideal for those of us whose skin doesn’t particularly like vitamin C products. Despite the awesome ingredients, my skin was just too sensitive for it.

I combine it with other acid products and it does not cause any irritation at all. Definitely recommend it for milder cases. Not sure if it would work that well for very intense cases though, but I would give it a go anyway.

Will repeat the product if I still need it in the future.
