20 Best Skateboard Decks For Beginners (2023 Updated)

This is my son’s first board and his favorite Christmas gift. I took him to the skate park on Christmas and every non rainy day since. This video is his second day skating with this Santa Cruz board.

I don’t know if it is designated as a beginner board, my son’s experience is that it is a fantastic board for a beginner. Also, customer service was excellent!.

I thought I heard my daughter mention that she wanted to try skateboarding so when I saw this Santa Cruz board I ordered it right away. When she opened her gift this morning she was super happy and hoped right on her new board and was going up and down the sidewalk.

I highly recommend this size/type of bird for a medium size child. My daughter is 10.

The graphics are awesome! However, my only con about this skateboard deck is the actual dimensions of it that might be best suited for a taller rider, not a short person. Although I’ve had no major issues with this deck as far as performance thus far, it is almost like taking a surf board out to the skate park.

The graphics alone are worth every penny. The top of this particular deck is blank (no top graphics) and its stained a beautiful red shade. I applied some Pool Ripper Powell grip tape to mine and the deck is super rad.

I’d highly recommend some standard heavy Independent trucks so it’ll give this deck some stability. Otherwise, any light-weight trucks can cause too much flex. Hope my review helps.

Awesome old school board. Same size and shame as my 80s board. Only problem I found is as assembled with parts it came with wheel bite was really bad. Added 1/2 inch truck spacers and stiffer bushings and all better.

Of course I had to add the tail bone and rails to complete the 80s feel.

Awesome. Top is blank (no image) so this will allow for some radical grip tape design. I haven’t scrounged up all the parts yet, but this is a must have for any level of skateboarder from beginner to pro.

Great shaped board. Amazing graphics. However, this one is heat transfer and not real screen print. Heat transfers are big stickers.. no one wants this – it looses all Desirability 🙁

The awesome OG Wink shape we’ve all come to love with an amazing graphic based on the original dope planet. An already iconic board with a fresh (and dark) spin. Erick is an awesome person and his boards reflect that.

Excellent deck! Graphics are incredible. I have been collecting all of Winkowski’s decks for years and this is one of my favorites.

Seems like just a hologram sticker, but not sure. The way its advertised when you look at it is not the same in person. Meaning the pictures are not as clear cut and are difficult to make out depending on what angle you view the graphics.

Overall quality was good and no defects. They give an additional cool sticker on the front of the deck.

So rad! I’ve been waiting for this board for what felt like eternity! I’m a huge Stranger Things fan and skater for life, so what a great 1st art board to collect. I got it in my hands and what a Beaut this is 🔥.

Better than ever and the detail is straight Demogorgon. Do yourself a favor and do a kickflip into the upsidedown and buy/trade/admire.

Amazing reissue. I always wanted one when I was kid but my parents couldn’t afford it back then. I bought two and one sits in my office and the other one is my daily setup in the trunk. So many good memories.

Very cool graphics. I tend to prefer composite boards because they’re lighter and stronger than conventional 7 ply maple boards. The shorter wheelbase seems to be an advantage in the park and street tricks.

A longer wheelbase seems better when you just want to go fast! VX decks seem to fall right in the middle of the composite pack at right around 1440 TMS.

This deck is amazing. I’m on the shorter side at 5’7” with somewhat short legs and the amount of board control I get is incredible. My flick and pop feel effortless. I wonder how a slightly wider board with same length and wheelbase would feel.

I’ve ridden this board like 7 times now and I haven’t broken it which is actually pretty good for me!! Only thing is I have noticed that it’s already starting to chip on the tail. This board has lots of pop and I love the shortened wheel base.

Love this board. Nothing wrong with it. Only reason I didn’t give it a 5 out of 5 is the width seems a bit small. Hard to know the best size when you are stationed overseas.

This board I put the grip on the next day, and I noticed that I did such a well job on the grip. So I hung it up for about a week or so and I took it down today and put my independent trucks on this board.

They fit perfectly and the board is now at tall and I have not yet to ride it. I love to ride my power board instead. But this deck is great and nose and tail are still in perfect condition out here where it’s all burnt out.

I can’t wait to ride at the skate park. The end of last year I had surgery. So I’m taking my time to ride this deck and I think I’m coming close to dropping in and it’s been awhile. It has a fine finish and looks like it was sanded down and then the graphic.

Both this board and my power have this nice matte finish and the graphics are awesome. I want to say thank you to nhs because they have the size chart and stuff it seems like they know what they are doing.

I was actually looking at the continals they had and cylinders for my trucks because at first when I tried independent trucks they had the continals. But now I have the independent trucks and now I have cylinders.

So maybe that will be the next thing that I order and try different ones. Idk maybe next month. Some real skateboard stuff from nhs!!!.

Santa Cruz is one of my favorite places so why not get a custom board from there? I love light beach & sunshine colored boards. This is perfect. The build is also top notch as well (I’m a heavyweight looking to drop 30lbs.

) & it has held up. I do wish there was a VX version. but I went ahead & got the Flamingo deck in another custom build as well. That arrives tomorrow. There is a pre-built cruiser I’m also planning on getting & because of the fast & quality service of this company I’m a hooked happy new customer.

This Board Is a 8. 0 Santacruz classic dot deck alike most of the boards Santa Cruz sells but here is why this one is better. Firstly this board is an amazing board for hanging on your wall, the colors pop against basically any wall color.

And For skating the board is pretty sturdy, I’ve Done many Boardslides and Lip slides with no cracking in the board The Graphic lasted a few sessions before getting messed up which is inevitable but I would 100% Recommend this Board to anyone who Loves to ride the classic Santa Cruz shape.

I ordered this and other parts with installation to surprise my son for Christmas. It arrived fully assembled within a few days and my son was thrilled with it! This is his second Santa Cruz skateboard.

Board had an awesome shape and feel. Was absolutely loving my first Santa Cruz, been skating 17 years and have always wanted to try one. This thing made it about 2 hours at the park and snapped on a Nollie flip on flat.

I am 5’10 158 lbs. I want to try another one because it felt so good, but I need to know I just got one from a bad batch or something jpeg.

The finish is really nice, it’s definitely not going to flake off with a crisp breeze. I’m a big fan of the shape of the board, it’s got a very comfortable concave to it. The wheelbase is really nice for an 8.

25″. It doesn’t feel like you’re riding a boat. Solid deck overall.

Previously purchased one for my older son in Reptilla graphic and my other son wanted one too. With seeing how well it was built and handled, we felt confident buying another from Madd Gear. We chose the Boomin graphic one this time and surprised my son with it when he got home from school.

My son just received this skateboard on the 28th & he absolutely LOVES it!!! This is the first time he’s actually skated on a skateboard, he had a penny board but it was very difficult & he had a hard time trying to do anything but ride on it.

He plays the skateboard games on Xbox & watches YouTube so from him just doing that he’s already learned how to do quite a few tricks. Yes I’m probably biased but he’s darn good. This board was an awesome board to get for his first one.

I ordered this for my husband from overseas because it wasn’t available in the states anywhere I could find. I was reluctant to purchase from such a far away place, but reviews made me feel confident in this company.

Sure enough, everything was great and shipping was surprising fast, coming across the world! Also, my husband loves this board. This one was one of his must have decks. I’d definitely purchase from SkatePro again, despite the distance! (US residents).

Great shape and pop. Durable. I would rather the element sign be at the tail but iss no matter. Great wood used. Nice blue top ply so if you use grizzly tape with the bear cutout or any other types or jobs that expose the top ply u get to see a beautiful ply.

Not much more to say. Its an element and this one is as classy as they come.

This is a great skateboard that I purchased for a Christmas gift. Unfortunately there were stickers placed on the bottom that were a pain to get off. I get that it’s a skateboard and it’s meant to get beat up and scratched but to get it and have to remove the stupid stick on the bottom is pretty lame.

Its the cheapest option Iv found for a good quality deck. Strong wood, mellow concave, good shape. First thing I have to do it drill holes for a narrower wheel base and shave some wheel wells. Then the best part.

Paint and grip. Then either set up and skate or hang on the wall. Or skate it, repaint it and then hang it. Iv had several of these with the old school shape and several popsicle shaped as well. Will buy again.

First of all the design. For a blank this deck hits the classic 80’s mark with it’s beauty classic fish shape. The word is these Mosse blanks are coming out of one of the best wood shops in Quebec Canada.

Quality of construction is really good. Over all great product. Highly recommend.

This deck makes for a really smooth riding cruiser. I used big soft wheels and hollow trucks and it rides like a dream. Im very satisfied.

Solid deck, good wheels, the Abec 5 are quite good. It is not too heavy so you can jump easily higher with the board. If the road is not smooth you can have some problem moving, with these bearings and wheels, but apart this is a good choice.

Nothing bad to say about it, just wasn’t for me. I prefer deep concave and I would consider it to be flat( it’s not ) Element is still a great company that makes quality products. I especially like their flat bars??.

I absolutely vibe with it. Can’t wait to ride a couple bowls or grind a few rails with this bad boy. Deck was delivered extremely quick, without any screwups or delays, and even came with a free Santa Cruz sticker.

Just by holding the deck, I could tell it was well manufactured, and would take a heck of a landing to break it. Would definitely recommend to skaters. #sweepstakes.

Great board! It has a lot of pop, smooth design and it’s holding up well. Santa Cruz is an hour away so I’m grateful to represent a local brand. Don’t forget the mob grip so you don’t slip when carving.

Really cool looking graphic, I?d call it medium concave with steep kick. Only thing I disliked was the very middle ply of wood is not very nice. Although the middle ply matters the least when it comes to the strength of the deck, the other 13 skateboard decks I have bought in the past few months for my collection all managed to have 7, good looking plys of wood.

I won?t take off a star because this minor issue wouldn?t effect the strength of the deck.

Not my first purchase from Warehouse Skateboards, every product I order comes perfect I save a lot of money buying from warehouse skateboards, they ship quickly my orders usually come early and they have everything to purchase for a customize board because my son does not like a pre-package skateboards he likes to build it himself.

I would like to see more antihero and I would love to see some grimplestix boards.

Great Pro deck at a great price. After looking around this was the best website for what I needed. Outer box was heavily damaged upon delivery and slight scratches on deck graphic. Other then that 10 / 10.

The board is nice, trucks feel very similar to tensor trucks, wheels and bearings are alright. Good skateboard for beginners and I suppose intermediate users. I’m satisfied with my purchase.

The deck is great although the color from the picture and the actual deck are different. The pic looks white with blue letters, the deck is cream with blackish-olive colors. Shipping and service were outstanding!.

Very very nice Deck!! Concave + Pop is super awesome. Unfortunately the tail cracked a little after a few weeks. But I think that wasn’t the decks fault. More mine. -> If you have the money, try the deck!.

Very nice deck with graphics top and bottom. More of a display piece than a rider in my opinion. Went a start short of five because the graphics are a bit pixelated for a board of this caliber and price point.

With a brand like element and star wars licensing I expected a bit sharper imaging.

Board is awesome. I wasn’t much of a sci-fi fan until I got older. I am now fanatical. This is a perfect edition to our collection.

Pretty good deck so far, lots of pop, nice regular element shape I’m used to, a little wide for my taste wanted a wider board, probably made alittle too big of a jump from 8. 00 to this lol but just gotta get my flip tricks a little more powerful great for catching pop shuvs tho.

I bought this for my 6 year old son. We liked the design and the size was perfect for him. He got on it easily and able to control his turns better. We are already looking to enroll him in a class. He really loved it!.
