20 Best Silicone Spatula Cooks Illustrated (2023 Updated)

I have found the spatula(s) of my dreams, and after buying this and several other sizes/shapes from the GiR line, I haven’t touched another spatula since (well, at least when I’m not in my work kitchen).

Even before I went to culinary school, I was raised to be a home cook with rather particular tastes regarding the tools and equipment that I’ll allow to take up residence in my kitchen cupboards. Everything has to have a purpose and perform the task or tasks perfectly.

And my friends, this spatula was designed to perfection. For two years of culinary school, I searched for something like this: a small and slender little number that could turn the ridiculous experience of squeezing my palm-sized professional spatula into the slightly-smaller-than-palm-sized openings of a deli container for the sole purpose of scraping up a 3g dollop of vanilla paste into an elegant experience of one twist-and-flick-of-the-wrist motion.

Alas, it wasn’t until the last two months of school that I finally came across GiR and their line of beautifully designed multi-purpose spatulas—and it took another two months for me to discover a local supplier in Calgary’s Knifewear (thank you, yay!!!).

Whether you prefer the scoop or the angle, this little beauty can reach into the corners of pesky square containers (and honestly, why are you using square containers anyway), plumb the depths of those tall, narrow jars when you can’t stand to waste that last 1/4 cup of your favourite sauce or condiment, toss about the contents of a fry pan, and scrape down the sides of any bowl with ease.

Seriously, unless you’re an actual chef or just have an unfortunate and misplaced fondness for those professional-grade, red-handled workhorses of the spatula world, this little number is all you need (well, this and it’s larger and smaller counterparts).

Dear GIR customer service, I am a long-time customer, and have always been very happy with your products, and have referred several people to your company. So I’ve been perplexed as to why the 2 spoonlas I ordered are definitely not made with the same quality of silicone that all of your other items (that I have ordered) are.

On July 10, 2020, I sent you an email regarding an important problem with the two spoonlas from order #GIRCO83366. I HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. This is disappointing and frustrating, because I am not able to contact you via phone, or any other way.

I had previously, always had such a respected opinion of GIR, but I am disheartened and wondering if you are now going out of business, for two reasons: 1. ) You haven’t responded to my customer service request from 10 days ago.

2. ) The quality of the silicone (which is the reason for contacting you) has apparently deteriorated greatly. I would very much appreciate a response and at least a refund for these 2 defective products.

I’ve explained the defects in detail, in my original email to you, which I’ve included this message below for your convenience. I have also included the photo I had previously sent, which illustrates exactly what I am reporting.

It contained two different sized “Spoonlas” as well as a a MultiPack Straw set. I am contacting you about the two spoonlas: GIRSUS311BLK GIR Skinny Spoonula GIRSUM311BLK GIR Mini Spoonula I have always been very happy and impressed with all of the GIR products over the years, and appreciate the integrity with which you have built your company upon.

So, you can imagine how astonished I was to discover that the above mentioned Spoonlas are definitely not the same quality of all the other products that I’ve ordered from GIR. As they say, pictures are worth a thousand words, so I’ve attached a photo for your reference, to show what defect I’m referring to.

In the photo I have placed a previously bought Mini Spoon between the 2 new Spoonlas. These 3 pieces were washed in the same dishwasher cycle. When I went to put away the dishes, the older Mini Spoon was as beautiful as usual – even after years of dishwashing.

As you can see in the photo, the 2 new Spoonlas are badly discolored with blotches or smears of a chalky residue. Since the older Mini Spoon has never discolored this way, it stands to reason that they are not manufactured out of the same quality of silicon.

Just so you know, I’ve been “into” using silicone for several decades, and I’ve done lots of research about the different qualities of silicone products, especially for cooking and baking use. I know that when a silicone product ends up looking like the two new Spoonlas in the photo, they are most likely not made with a high quality silicone.

I had always appreciated that GIR is not only known for the best quality silicone, but also purports that as part of your mission: “we designed a product with carefully chosen materials, an uncompromising focus on quality” In my research, I also learned that when one bends the edge of a silicone product, and the color disappears into a white color, it means it’s a lesser quality silicone.

This would be alright for some silicone uses, but definitely for cooking or baking. I found that these 2 new Spoonlas definitely DO turn white, when bent at the edges, unfortunately. I am asking for a refund for these 2 spoonlas, and I would be happy to return them if you send me a pre-paid return mailing label.

The GIR Ultimate Spatula is a great addition to my kitchen ware! It works so well when baking or cooking! Easy to wash as you place it in the dishwasher or wash it quickly with soapy water and rinse, easy peasy! I highly recommend this spatula and it comes in many fabulous colours, love the bright blue one! I have to buy one for my mother in law! So light weight for her to use.

Bought This for my husband because he wanted something big enough to be able to flip omelettes with. He used it to make veggie omelettes with and loves it he said it works great

Fast shipping, the spatulas were just as described and the price was great. The wide one is awesome for omelets which is why I bought the set.

I love this silicone spatula. Works great, cleans my bowls and pans out quick and easy. I also use it on my blender jar to get all of the yummy stuff out. I hate to waste anything and spatula comes in handy.

The silicone head is wonderful, flexible enough to get the corners and sides but firm enough to clean with one swipe. I have many hard plastic spatulas that are useless to me now that I have found this one.

This is my go to cleaning utensil, I use it for everything and it works great.

I recently purchased 2 of these spatulas. I was surprised at how sturdy the handle was for the price I paid ($3 each). The handle is also extra long. I am used to a rubber spatula so the silicone head is just a little too flexible but very workable.

Overall, I would purchase this product again.

This is very popular with everyone. The silicone is great for scraping hummus and other items from the pan. The silicone can be removed from the stick for cleaning, but can also get separated. Good price, very useful kitchen item.

Ive been looking for a small spatulas and this definitely fits the bill. They are flexible and get into a small jar nicely. Ive been giving them to my friends and they are enjoying them as well. Dishwasher safe which is a requirement.

Just as described and works great. It’s not too firm or soft. It’s somewhere in the middle.

A new day for cooking eggs! This is absolutely awesome! I cooked fried eggs, over easy, with no troubles. This slid under them with no problems and didn’t scratch my pan. I grilled cheese sandwiches, and flipped them with this, without a hitch and never scratched the pan.

I made a Beyond Beef stroganoff and this did an excellent job from grilling the Beyond meat to lifting the stroganoff out of the casserole dish. I even fired fishless filets with no sticking to the spatula and no scratching the fry pan.

You owe it to yourself. I know I will be eating more eggs over easy and fewer scrambled eggs, thanks to this gem! YES!.

These are great. Very thin at the tips ( thin part without metal captured) facilitating getting under things. One wore out where the arm bends and is captured by silicone weirdly. I’ll if it happens to this new set.

I bought this spatula to save my pan I use for breakfast every day. It works beautifully. No mark, cuts, etc in my expensive pan. I love the feel of it too.

I bake a lot of cookies and love using my OXO cookie spatula when it comes time to remove them from the cookie sheet. The Good Grips Cookie Spatula from OXO makes it so easy. The spatula is made from stainless steel and has a silicone outer layer that has been bonded to the stainless steel.

I like that it has a curved handle that allows my hand to stay away from a hot pan while removing my cookies. The corner is curved and makes scraping cookie dough from a spoon much easier. The rubber handle is soft and fits comfortably in my hand.

The thin tapered edges make it easy to get under my cookies without cracking them. This spatula is heat resistant up to 600 degrees and is safe to use with my non-stick cookware. This spatula is small and lightweight, and easy to use.

It is also easy to care for. It is dishwasher safe, but I prefer to hand wash my silicone spatulas to keep them looking newer longer.

This Cookie Spatula has been really great! I have used it with cookies, brownies, and Cornbread. It is small enough to work great on a Cookie sheet as well as a baking pan. The rounded corner helps to make sure we get all of the cookie dough or batter and don’t waste any.

I like that the handle is soft but also non-slip and that the Spatula part is flexible.

This spatula was the perfect level-up for cookie baking! I usually use the same flappy spatula that I use for any other cooking- and I didn’t even realize how much I needed improvement until I got this new OXO spatula! It’s a nice, cookie-sized spatula, and it slides right in between the cookies, without jumbling up all the rest around it.

It has silicone that is soft enough to keep from scratching your pan, but strong enough to NOT be flimsy. I know it seems silly to be this happy about a spatula, but it really is perfect at what it does.

I am sure you could use this for other cooking needs, but I’m keeping mine pristine with my baking stuff, so it stays just right for when I need it- now bring on the holiday baking!.

I have been able to use my Silicone Spatula, Large, White, multiple times already. I love to bake and mostly use it when I bake. It is big that it let’s you get every drop from any batter in a bowl to baking pan.

I’ve also actually use it for icing and folding in ingredients also. It is a very durable Silicone Spatula. I am honestly surprised by how well it works and how durable it is. I highly recommend this.

It deserves more than five stars. It is a high quality spatula, very durable spatula every Baker whether you are a beginner or expert should own. It is also easy to hold. The grip is good, and great for any kitchen decor.

This silicone spatula is the perfect size for all cooking and baking uses. We have been using it almost everyday. Great for quickly and efficiently whipping up cake mixes as well as using it to cook ingredients up omelets since it is heat safe up to 480°F.

Easy cleaning by putting it in the dishwasher. Huge plus is the stainless steel handle which has a hole at the end to easily store rather than tossing it in a drawer. This is our new go to.

The handles break very easily. The handle comes out of the head, so stuff can gather in the hole, making it difficult to keep clean. The scraper part is very good, but not very useful without a sturdy handle.

These are great. They are a much sturdier silicone than others that I have used. I am sure that this quality as durable as it is, will last a very long time!

Love these. Bought them in a store first and have lasted for years! But lost one recently and came to eBay to buy. They’re on the smaller side, fit nicely in the drawer and the rubber end comes off for thorough washing.

Silicone end doesn’t feel grimy or collect dust like many silicone products. Awesome!.

This group of 3 spatulas is really what every good cook must have in the kitchen. The spatulas flex easily and the three of them have different uses and are equally good. A must in one’s kitchen. Take my word for it.

I come from a Mediterranean country where cooking is considered a great skill and I really don’t know how I did without these spatulas before. Highly recommend.

These are amazing. I haven’t found anything like it. A must for baking as it will scrape out every bit of a batter out of any bowl. It even helps with heavy sourdough. Not sure that can be safely used in a 400 or higher oven, but you can use to get eggs, omelettes, pancakes and so on.

I just love them! I ended up destroying two over the years, so I’m getting a new set.

These spatulas are terrific. They are sturdy and well-made. I use them predominantly to scrape, so I really enjoy the different sizes in the set. They provide a good, clean swipe, too. I also appreciate that one of the spatulas fits nicely into a can of condensed soup.

Most spatulas are too large for this frequently-used activity. I like that these items do not get cut easily nor does the material break down like that in rubber spatulas. They fare well in the dishwasher, the handles provide a comfortable grip, and they are more easily kept clean than wooden or rubber spatulas.

I don’t use them to stir hot food in pots / pans, so I am unable to review that feature. I definitely recommend this set of spatulas.

I’ve had this for a year now and still not reaching for it very often. The GIR Spoonula is my first choice when it works, though. Love that one and my recently purchased Flip. I want this spatula to have the narrower/sharper edge the on Spoonula and Flip.

On stove top, I use the Flip for stirring and moving food around as it squeegees the sides better (possibly because it’s also bigger) or I use something stiffer to break up chunks. For the food processor, a 90 degree corner work best so this doesn’t get that job either.

Overall, this tool is fine, but it’s not earning its spot in my tool canister. I’d rather have GIR superior workmanship and materials in a flat spatula with one square corner.

I liked it at first–flexible at the edge but strong with metal inside. However, after a couple of uses, the corner of the metal has started to tear through the silicone. Maybe it was because I used it to break up hamburger as it was browning.

A spatula isn’t much use if it can’t break up hamburger, in my opinion.

I really like these spatulas. I have used them for over 4 months and they still look like new. When I first got them I thought the handles were loose, but that is just the way they are made. The variety in size and shape provides a more than adequate choice for any specific use.

They handle the heat and can be used with anything from cast iron to copperware with no worries. Glad I bought them and recommend them to my friends and family.

After examining yet again the bubbles on the bottom of my turners and wondering what they were releasing into my food, I decided to see if I could find something better. I have a few silicone spatulas, but never had seen silicone turners in the store.

I really thought that they did not make them. However, here they are. I really like these so much that I am thinking of buying more items from this company. They not only work well, but are actually beautiful, if you can say that about a kitchen utensil.

I have used all of them multiple times. They wash well by hand or in the dishwasher. Also, they are very generously sized, so no problem there. Some might be put off by the price, as I was at first, but I am thinking that they will provide value in the long term.

I like to bake. As a result, I’ve been through a lot of product looking for the perfect tool. Generally speaking, I end up with something close. Does the most critical things well and the other things it does O.

K. Not so with the Di Oro Spatula Set. Thus far its executed every task I’ve set it to, perfectly. Normally, spatulas are not a topic of hot debate. I don’t think it’s ever come up in any conversation I’ve been a part of.

But, when you think about it, what would folding in whipped cream or whipped egg whites be without one? Or scraping stuff out of the bowl or pot? Here are what I see as the critical features in a spatula set.

First, the heads have to be soft enough they can bend into corners but stiff enough, especially when dealing with hot stuff, like a hot crust pastry, to move it around without flopping about. Secondly, the heads must be shaped (and soft enough) to get into tight corners or curves.

Third, the handles must have enough reach you’re not sticking your hand into the mix (especially when it’s hot). Finally, the handle should be comfortable. Some things, like a good bowl of grits (proper grits, not that instant nonsense), require a good deal of stirring.

Your hand shouldn’t fatigue from holding it half way through. In all of these, the Di Oro set excelled. My previous set, from Rubbermaid, gave up the ghost after 20+ years (kudos to them). I loved that set.

On a recommendation, I tried the Di Oro set. I like it better. Its performance is slightly better than the Rubbermaid but its sizes and the way it maintains its stiffness are significantly better. The Rubbermaid set was generally too stiff, and scooping stuff out of corners was always a labor.

Not so with the Di Oro set. I realize the price ~$26. 00 may seem a bit much. But factor that over utility, life expectancy and comfort. If you do a significant amount of cooking, I don’t think I’d buy any other set.

These are just like any other sillicone spatula set. I ordered them because of the variety of spatulas included. When I recieved the order all I got was two large spatulas and two small spatulas, there was no spoonula or jar spatula.

These are very heavy duty spatulas and can be used up to 600 degrees. I discovered these while watching Test Kitchen and out of all the spatulas tested these were the winner. Very good quality really impressed and are now my go to in my kitchen when cooking.

It’s hard to mess up silicone utensils in my opinion. These are lovely. The colors are so appealing. I cook with them every day and have no complaints. To improve one thing would be to add a spoon/paddle type utensil so you can scoop out what you’ve made.

These were a little pricey compared to others on the market but I like the variations in size.

I bought these online (unseen) unsure if they would be what I wanted, but they’re perfect. The red one is stiff and is perfect for cooking. The blue one is flexible and is perfect for baking and getting every last drop out of a blender.

I was also worried they would be too short, but the red one is the same height of all my other silicone spatulas, and the slight shortness of the blue one has helped more than hindered.

Love, love, love these spatulas! You don’t need anything else to help with your cooking. I can clean off beaters, get that last little bit out of my measuring cup, dip into the mayo jar, spread frosting, and fold in egg whites.

I can also stir hot foods without worrying about melting the edges of the spatula. Best set ever!.

Have only used one of these. Didn’t really want a whole set but it’s hard to find a decent single one. However it was worth purchasing the set on sale to finally get a decent spatula. Only got it last week so I can’t speak about durability yet, but it’s one solid piece and does an excellent job flipping and scraping just like a spatula should.

Title says it all – I love this set. I use one of these at least (AT LEAST) once a day. I use them to mix batter, sauté vegetables, scramble eggs, scrape out jars. they’re wonderful and the variety of sizes and lengths covers any spatula-related need.

They’re comfortable to use, easy to clean (so much better than two-piece spatulas!) and look really nice, too! I also love that Zulay is a family business and the package came with a thank you card – such a nice touch!.

Each size has a job to do. The instructions for each is included. Would highly recommend. Great for spreading mayo, peanut butter etc. Nice addition to stirring and scraping your baking bowls.

I really love these spatulas – I ordered 2. However, unlike the one I purchased in the store, the shipped spatulas had a plastic packaging attached where the silicone meets the wooden handle. I can’t cut it away, it won’t melt.

I am concerned that food particles or bacteria may settle in. Why? This seems an expensive, wasteful and illogical thing to do to an otherwise great product. DO NOT ORDER ONLINE.

It does the job, but the silicone head doesn’t meet the wood handle, and the handle itself was rough and had to be sanded to be comfortable. I wouldn’t recommend this item. I would have returned it, but I took off the packaging and tried to use it before I realized the issues.

I got a red spatula spoon earlier at SLT. It is really easy to use as a stir and mix spoon when cooking. So I got this one with other purchases to meet free shipping at SLT website. As a spatula, it is not as easy to use as my other ones when I’m mixing ingredients for baking.

Besides, it cannot hold the food as I was testing the flavor during cooking.

Wasn’t sure what a spatula spoon was? I am so happy I purchased this product. This is a tool a kitchen shouldn’t be without! I will definitely be purchasing these for friends.

In 2002 or so, I purchased a few of these with simpler, square handles and love them. Between four moves and a garbage disposal accident, I was down to one. The new handles are slightly better, but I don’t really notice.

Things I like: * simple good flexibility (not to floppy, not too hard) * rubber part pulls off so you can wash without worrying about gunk and mildew up in there * I’ve thrown them in the dishwasher for years One note, since it’s wood, the dishwasher does dry them out a bit.

Every once in a while I throw the handles in a gallon ziploc with oil (food-save linseed or olive) for a few hours or overnight then wash. It keeps them from getting too dried out.

Every morning I make a drink of spirulina fresh water plankton and wheat grass juice powder. Up until now I had been using a tablespoon to mix the drink and it left large pods of undissolved spirulina that would stick to the spoon.

Now though, with this magic spatula I easily mix the elixir and smear the pods into the sides of the cup where they dissolve. So I am really happy with this LE CREUSET SPATULA and its’ heavenly blue silicone tip.

This set of spatulas really look great. Well made and sturdy. A bit of a problem arises when your work requires you to choke-up on the spatula for better leverage or control. The stem between the handle and blade is a rectangular piece of stainless steel and is very uncomfortable to grip.

Pros: Nice appearance. Cons: Stem between handle and blade is not designed to be gripped comfortably.

I bought these for my kitchen and realized they are industrial size. Not really what I need but, I will gift them to my daughter who has a large family and needs that kind of utensils. I would highly recommend for big kitchens that do a lot of baking and such.

I have all three sizes of ThermoWorks silicone spatulas. I will only use silicone spatulas since they can take the heat without melting or warping. My old silicone spatulas have wooden handles, but the glue eventually wears down and the silicone part comes off.

When I saw ThermoWorks’ one piece spatulas, I immediately bought two. Over the years, they have added two sizes. Now I have all three sizes, two of each size and shape. I also gave large silicone spatulas to my daughter and her sister-in-law.

I have used my spatulas many times to stir chili and curry (or something else with tumeric), and the spatulas never get stained. Best of all, they do not retain food odors whatsoever (even garlic or onions), so I can use a spatula to stir chili one day and to mix a one-pan lemon cake the next day and know that the cake will taste of lemons, not chili.

They do the job well, from stirring soups or stews in a large stockpot to mixing pasta or potato salads to beating a one-pan cake to spreading nut butter or condiments on bread. I highly recommend these spatulas.

These Spatulas (and matching spoons) are heavier and a bit clumsy. I love the mini/small version of these, and I use these all the time. I was hoping for the same with the large ones, but I usually reach for my wooden spoons instead.

In all, it’s a good product, not worthy of 5 stars and barely worthy of 4.

Have had these for about 3 months now, and they have held up great–no nicks or cuts in the edges. I wish the spoon part was just a little bit deeper to act more like a spoon. Heavier than I expected, but it has just the right weight in the hand ultimately.
