20 Best Shower Rod For Tile (2023 Updated)

Shower rod looks great! It took about ten minutes to install with the included hardware and is much more secure than my previous shower rod. There are a lot of reviews here which blame the product for issues which would never have arisen if the directions had been read and followed.

As with any project, verify that the included hardware is intended for use in your application. This rod comes only with drywall anchors. If you are installing directly to studs, into tile, or into some sort of fabricated shower surround, you will need to buy the correct hardware first.

The caps which cover the pole are fairly large. If you plan to install the rod itself flush to the top of the shower surround, it is going to result in caps going above or below where you want them. Find where you want it to actually hang, measure to that point (twice, of course) and begin drilling.

With the particular style of shower rod this is (curved) you’ll want to install it already assembled. If you do this and you are right-handed, install the right side first. With the curve of the shower rod, you won’t be able to easily use a drill gun on both sides.

If you do the right side first, you’ll be able to easily use the drill gun on those screws. The screws on the left side will have to be done primarily with a manual screwdriver. If you install the left side first, you’ll find yourself having to manually screw in the right side with you left hand.

Just a tip, YMMV. And one other word of warning. If your home is like mine, the toilet is only a few inches from the bathtub. Keep in mind that the curve could push this thing out far enough to interfere with toilet usage in small spaces.

To keep that from happening, I set the install points about 2. 5″ back from the edge of the shower surround on both sides. That way, with dual shower curtain hangers (hooks which allow for a plastic shower curtain to hang inside the tub and a fabric one to hang outside -but on a single hook) it still leaves plenty of open space inside the tub area, while keeping it from poking out so far as to hit legs of those sitting on the toilet.

Long story short, read the instructions before you start and carefully measure how the placement will affect rod components as well as the curtain itself. If you do those things, it will be a quick, easy and sturdy install.

Just remodeled 3 bathrooms. Used a lot of moen parts. Over the years I’ve found it’s worth paying a little more for their stuff. They stand behind their warrenty if there’s a problem and their finishes hold up a long time.

Works like it’s supposed to and looks good. If I have a gripe it’s that the fasteners they provide are my least favorite type, I would never use them, they send the same fasteners with their toilet paper holders and towel bars, straight in the trash.

So, be prepared to acquire something more appropriate to your installation. Since I tore everything down to the studs and knew in advance where I needed to mount things, I put in plenty of wood blocking where I needed it and used stainless steel screws.

Be aware it’s easy to mount these curved bars a little too far out, the ends need to be a closer in then you might think. My advice is to get some helpers, hang a cloth curtain and hold it up before you mount it so you get it right the first time.

When looking for rods on the HD web site u was frustrated by the lack of specs or much description info such as drill hole size (I needed to also by a carbide bit) etc. I purchased this one specifically because it had an instillation video.

The video posted by HD says it’s extendable, it’s not. The video says it needs a 5/16 drill hole, it doesn’t. It did come with the anchors and screws but only ones for drywall not tile, the video showed tile instillation.

The anchors/screws are too small for the suggested 5/16 hole. i discovered this only after drilling into the tile. Now I’m left scrambling to find #14-16 anchors which are not all that easy to find apparently.

HD- if your going to post a video attached to a product at least make it the SAME item as the product. Your sloppy mess has caused me a lot of hassle at a time when trying to purchase things is hard.

Also I ordered 4 items. Got 4 separate deliveries, 4 separate days, 4 different drivers, giant boxes for small things. Shamefully inefficient.

This shower rod is lightweight which is great however very misleading. You must drill holes there’s no push pin or easy install as stated. It requires the same amount of work. Drill 4 holes for anchors then you can put the nails in to hold up the brackets.

Your best bet is to have a stud finder. I followed the instructions & two inches over was not enough. Also the curve is bigger then the pic shows. If you have a smaller bathroom your curtain will stick out unless you put your curtain on the inside rod.

It’s too much of a hassle to return so now we’re figuring out how to make it work.

Disappointed. Wanted to live this because of the promise and unique design of a double bar curtain rod. Unfortunately we were disappointed at every step. Followed instructions to a “T” and it regrettably was the wrong placement so we have to remove and drill MORE holes in the wall of our brand new home.

Then we discovered the holes in the rod don’t line up with the brackets which meant we couldn’t secure the critical the rod to the wall and install the final pieces. If we decide to return it, we will now have EIGHT size able holes in our walls.

!!! Lastly, the materials are rather light and unexpectedly “plastic feeling”. I was expecting something else. Pretty disappointed all around.

My wife wanted this to extend the space in our shower. She also wanted to use the second rod as a place to hang towels instead of the decorative second curtain. I didn’t think the “towel hanging” thing would work; I figured the rod would sag.

I was pleasantly surprised. It actually hold a damp full sized towel and seems to be pretty solid. It was easy to install and all the hardware was included too. I will probably keep this even after the major bathroom renovation I have planned.

From an beauty / strength / price point of view. this is the best bang for your buck. Takes 2 people to hang it, but well worth the efforts. The supplied paper templates make getting everything level and drilled correctly very easy.

You also need to insure the finish ends are both oriented properly or they wont snap into place. One added note is what I feel is the weak link of this setup; the tube ramp collars for the roller hooks.

they do not fit snug and are susceptible to become dislodged from the tube expansion points. I liberally used silicone sealant under these ramp collars to keep them in place in the tubes and to cut down the “loose” feeling of the tubes at this point.

Moen should incorporate this installation practice in the instructions. It makes for a far better solidly mounted feeling of the rods.

Very nice quality rod. Heavy duty and looks great. A little bit of a pain to install, but once up is very sturdy. Definitely takes two people. (We had to install it in a shower with tile. ) After a year or so, still looks great! Would definitely recommend!.

The installation instructions are a little vague, such as height from the floor and how far in from the edge of the tub to install it but you can get that information off of youtube. I installed plastic wall anchors rather than the hollow wall anchors included with the kit.

When you are ready to install the rod you will need a second person to hold one end of it while you install the screws. I am very impressed with the final looks of this product and would recommend it over a single rod model.

I love this addition to my bathroom. It gives me so much more space in the shower. The curtain doesn’t get close to me and hasn’t stuck to me since I installed. I’m a thicker girl and I wrestled with a normal shower curtain sticking to me but this is a game changer.

I enjoy my shower so much more these days Super easy installation, just make sure it’s all level. It has a satin nickel finish and I used metal clips for my curtain. They move smoothly along the metal and doesn’t seem to scratch.

I was so excited to try this Kenney Twist & Fit curved tension shower rod. It couldn’t have been more simple to install. Once installed it fit so well and snug that I don’t have to worry about it coming down.

It adds six inches width to my shower because it’s curved. Installation was super easy. This shower rod is of great quality as well. I couldn’t be more happier with it.

Nothing gets on my nerves more in the shower, than when the shower curtain floats towards my body while I’m trying to move around and wash up. I’m a full framed man and there’s already so much room I get in a tub when showering and the last thing I want is the shower liner to comes creeping towards me and sticking to me.

I really like the look, but still had some issues. The instructions seemed overly complicated; actually the assembly is easier if you don’t read them. There is a design flaw that should be addressed.

The curtain rings stick when you slide them across. You’d think that the designers would test their product before they market it.

” No mounting hardware came with the product. It was a tension rod that you only need to twist in order to install.

Pretty standard thing. It seems like good quality and that it should last a long time. It’s not plastic.

It is ok. the part where the expandable joint is, catches on the curtain hooks. So it doesn’t work as smoothly as I would have wanted. I am going to take down and reverse it so the joint is at the part where the curtain wouldn’t be used.

I bought this item for me and for my sister and both love this item makes your bathtub look bigger and it’s soo easy to set up. And there’s alot of bars like this one but they’re bulky and ugly looking.

Excellent product came on time- and packaging wasnt even messed up at all item was completely intact all parts were included easy insulation took me about 5 to 10 minutes. Feels like we gained about 5 feet in width in our shower!!.

Perfect and stylish! I pared it with golden rings. It gives the shower more elbow room. It was straight forward for my husband to install, of course you need to drill on the wall. I love the flat square ending and the union where the two sections meet, has a rubber ring with makes the shower rings to slide right off.

Love this new matte black curved shower curtain bar. I have never had a curved one before and they keep the curtain away from you nice. This one has a very nice modern look to it and it matches with all my other black bathroom fixtures.

One of my pet peeves with shower rods is having the hooks snag where the rods connect. This solid rod resolves that issue. It’s clean lines are beautiful and it was easy to install. I plan to buy another for our guest bathroom! Shipping was fast and the rod was well packaged and arrived in perfect condition.

CONCLUSION: I fail to see any huge benefit whether I am damaging a wall to install a curtain rod once (I don’t think homeowners are likely to change rod styles often). This thing was very easy to install all on my own. I read other reviews where they needed someone else to help them install and I couldnt see why. It took me less than 5 mins and that includes removing the old tension Rod.

Anyways, the curve on this thing is very subtle. My wife thought it was going to take additional space in my office bathroom and once she saw it up she agreed it was at the perfect angle. It is very sturdy once you add additional tension.

How do I know you may ask? Well, my daughter decided to hang on it. I surely thought the rod or curtain would give way but surprisingly it held on. Now waiting to see how it holds up long term. My last one lasted about a year before it began to rust and stain my floor and tub.

So hopefully this holds up better.

I’m a fairly handy person. I actually like building new furniture when it comes out of the box. But getting this on is a little tricky on your own. First, make sure you extend it as far as you can with the push-button/holes option to fit the rod between your walls.

Don’t rely on the adjustable tension portion to be long enough, because this adjustment is very short and is only good for fine adjustment/tightening. Have someone else hold the rod in position as you tighten it into place.

Without the second set of hands, the curved portion will naturally want to sag down due to gravity. Once it was fully tightened, I found that I could still move the curved portion up/down with just a slight tug.

Mind you, this is only suppose to hold up the shower curtain, so it shouldn’t be a problem. Don’t expect it to hold up your weight or the weight of wet laundry. One minor gripe I have with this is that, because the poles are telescopic, one diameter is bigger than the other.

There is a plastic adapter that tries to smooth that transition. But if your setup, like mine, involves pulling the curtain past the transition point, it doesn’t pull away smoothly. It’d be nice if this could be designed to telescope in either direction, so the transition point can be placed on the end that doesn’t see as much curtain movement.

It does give a nice amount of space and you do avoid having to put holes in your walls, so these are gripes that I will live with for that convenience.

As another reviewer mentioned, the mounting flanges are chrome, the rod is steel. The difference in look isn’t dramatic, but noticeable. This is confusing because it is sold as a package and it doesn’t clearly mention this.

If you buy everything separately the description makes it more obvious. On the end flange, the mounting screw holes are very close to the section where the rod is inserted. If you are trying to use a drill driver to set the screws, the rod will force your drill to come in at an angle likely causing camout.

If you have some long extensions the angle will be better but not great.

It is so difficult to find curtain rods that screw directly into the wall. These fit the bill, and were significantly cheaper than most tension rods. Very easy to install, but make sure you have a pipe cutter or some kind of tool that will cut the metal tubing cleanly.

not what I wanted. I thought it was a tension rod, turned out it was just an Aluminum rod (1 piece). It was probably my fault because I didn’t read the description clearly but I definitely don’t have any use for this item and would most likely be tossing it out.

Sturdy and well made. But the screws provided to connect the pieces have large heads that do not allow any type of shower curtain ring or hook to glide over them. Will have to find new screws and reassemble.

This would be an easy fix for the manufacturer.

We have a late 1800’s house and needed an L shaped curtain rod for our original cast iron tub/shower. This is exactly what we were looking for and at such a great price! It’s held up incredibly well (family of 8!) no issues on plaster walls with anchors.

This isn’t the same shower rod Big Lots has sold in the past. It’s not a “normal” tension rod. Instead of having a spring that holds tension against the walls, it just wedges in. You have to twist it to unlock it, adjust it to a length that will allow you to wedge it between your walls, then try to twist it the other way to lock it back without letting the length slip.

Assuming you can accomplish that, you have to just wedge it between the walls without it giving any. Most walls are not completely uniform and a variation of 1/16 inch is enough to make this rod stick one place and slide around if you adjust the position by a few inches.

It’s almost impossible to position it exactly where you want it. I scarred the paint on my wall trying to get it short enough to fit in there and still long enough to stay. It’s very poorly designed and not very useful.

I’d have taken it right back had I not just moved and needed the shower curtain ASAP because I was expecting guests the next morning.

This shower curtain was one of the easiest installs I’ve done on the house, looks great and haven’t had a problem with it loosing grip or falling down for its own reasons. Leveling was easy and eye balled straight.

Anybody can install this and very pleasing. No complaints especially with biggest mishap is usually how they just fall down…. no chance of this one doing that. Very pleased with my purchase!.

I was very excited to get The Kenney Twist & Fit Shower Rod as I have always been very satisfied with Kenney products. Unfortunately, I had a great bit of difficulty twisting the rod into the desired fit.

The rod is very pretty and I can’t imagine it rusting. However, the end piece to the rod is made of plastic. I would have preferred it to be made of the same metal as the rod itself.

My old tension rod was getting scraped up and I got sign of how it detracted from the design elements of my space. I found this rod to be perfect for my needs. It was easy to twist and fit it to my space.

The chrome finish and design on the ends makes something as simple as a tension rod look elegant. I think I will get more to upgrade all my bathrooms!.

We just finished the Reno on our basement bath. It was a painted block shower that we had tiled and added a row of glass block at top to add privacy. The dilemma was how to hang a shower rod? It may be an unconventional use of the product but it worked out perfectly!.

As I just installed this shower rod in an outside shower (lattice-enclosed, and the rod with curtains gives a bit more privacy) I cannot yet attest to its durability. It did fit perfectly and the specs said it was okay for outdoor installation, so we will see.

This is a nice curtain rod, so solid that it was hard for us to cut through to adjust the length. But I’m pretty bummed about the color. All other SH fixtures have “polished brass” as a finish option, but this did not.

The pictures made the brushed gold appear similar enough, so that’s what we got. It’s really warm and orange-y in person and doesn’t look that great with my other polished brass fixtures which is really disappointing.

It just doesn’t make sense that this wasn’t created in a finish to match other brass SH fixtures. We put it up out of necessity but will probably will replace it in the future.

This is a solid, nice looking product. We used painters tape over the location where the rod was trimmed and it worked like a charm. We made pilot holes into the shower walls before putting in the screws, but don’t know if it was necessary.

Our only complaint was that when we used an extension on the electric screwdriver to install the second end cap, the heads snapped off of two of the screws (we did not try the 3rd screw) and we had to run to the store get more.

This is a very pricey product to have screws break so easily. That said, we are very pleased with the final product and would recommend it. with a warning.

This shower curtain rod was just hung yesterday, and it has no shower curtain on it yet, waiting for the final tile and plumbing updates to be completed in that bathroom. It looks like the picture, and feels substantial.

The only change I made was to install the brackets horizontally rather than vertically (as shown). I expect it to last for years, and am pleased with the purchase!.

This curtain rod just would not work for me. It was very hard to get put up. It took at least 4 tries to get it to stay in place and after the final try and finally getting the rod with the shower curtain to stay in place, 2 minutes later, I heard the whole thing fall to the floor.

So, I gave up and took it back to the store. I am looking for a rod with a spring loaded tension and hope that will work. I’m wondering if the problem is the fact that the walls are tiled and not sheetrock? I have another spring loaded rod in another bathroom on tiled walls and it works fine.

I urge caution.

This has a spring that lets me lock in at a certain length and then compress the spring to maintain force on the ends. I had been trying to find this type as I went through three of the twist-lock rods that failed after a few months.

I found this online, and “constant tension” caught my eye. Just what I wanted.

This extra-long tension rod was perfect for my large old front window. I managed to put it up alone, with not much hassle. When setting the length, it kept turning and turning and I thought maybe I’d got it wrong, but after a couple minutes, it locked into place just fine! I don’t have long heavy drapes on it, so I don’t know how it deals with the weight, but from just tugging on it, I suspect it would do fine when I need to switch out the curtains for cooler weather.

the end cover plates won’t stay attached. If you are handy you can adapt it maybe with your own invention to keep it where it belongs. Otherwise it is perfect love the color and the sturdiness.

I have an angled entrance to a shower. Most rods will not work, but this one is perfect! The rod can swivel within the brackets for correct placement. Rod appears sturdy. Very happy with purchase.

Very nice looking chrome square rod and solid brackets. Very unique. Four stars instead of five because there needs to be a formula for measuring and cutting the rod to the right length for it to engage into the wall brackets.

We had to cut the rod twice in order to get the right length which was a hassle. They need to figure out a formula such as “measure the distance between the walls and subtract. inches” and then cut the bar to that length.

I would have given this rod 5 stars if it had come with instructions. My handyman couldn’t wait for me to find instructions online so he went ahead and installed it sideways! Fortunately, I found large round shower curtain rings, so it works.

It would look much better if it had been installed correctly.

I installed this rod across the inside of a large cabinet in lieu of a pair of large doors. It fits exactly as expected and works beautifully. Well-detailed and high quality, it is particularly pleasing to have a seamless, non-adjustable surface to slide a pocket curtain across.
