20 Best Shower Bench For Elderly (2023 Updated)

My husband is battling a terminal illness and is in need of assistance showering. I purchased this chair because, as his only caregiver, it would make it easier on myself and him. My time is limited due to daily radiation treatments that cause us to travel long distances every weekday.

My first disappointment was in that it was not assembled, but came all in pieces that had to be put together. The very first thumb screw that was suggested was too short and didn’t even come close to the hole it was supposed to fit in.

Would never recomment this product. Walmart has always been preferred over Amazon because their return policy has always been good. Now, I find out I cannot return a defective item, it is disheartening and will affect future purchases.

Quality is just not important to manufacturers these days, it seems.

This shower stool made me irrationally happy. I’ve been looking for something for the guest bathroom which is good-sized and gorgeous while the shower is long and narrow with no shower product shelves.

Everything that seemed attractive and practical was typically teak and costing $150 or more. This seat looks exactly right in scale and style, went together quickly once my husband was on hand and reflects significant quality at an extremely reasonable price.

This bench is perfect for my shower. It was also easy to assemble. It’s sturdy and durable. My only complaint is the shelf was slightly splintered on one end, but that’s not a big issue. I only use the shelf for bath products.

For the money, it’s fine.

I love it. It looks great and is sturdy enough to hold my weight (230 Lbs). It does not slip, slide or tip over while Im using it. Be sure to put the legs on correctly! They are angled at the top to fit the curvature of the seat.

Not putting the legs on correctly will cause the bench to tip over.

Unlike others with metal legs, this one fits right up to the walls of the shower stall. It also has adjustable end caps on the legs to adjust for the slope on the shower floor. And, with the additional shelf, not only does it allow storage of items, it also gives it a much more secure and solid bracing of the legs.

Easy to put together and all pre drilled holes were right on. Wood construction appears to be well done. I expect this one to last much longer than previous benches. I made one adjustment by adding larger washers to grab more wood and added lock washers to the leg bolts when putting it together.

I also put lock tight on the bolts, which may not be necessary, but have been tired of re-tightening nuts on the past benches.

It’s only been a few weeks since I have purchased this bath bench and I hope my review remains the same months later. The bench came partially assembled which helped. It seems quite supportive. The instructions diagram could be a little bit clearer with the screw pieces.

Overall I am happy with this bench it feels secure for my weight and frame. I liked the fact that delivery was quick and easy.

The best chair ever. Very durable, comfortable, sturdy, adjustable safe and stable. Its a little wide but my tub is older and it fit perfect. I showed it to my sister and she ordered one also. I use it to do pedicures to let my feet soak in the tub, wash my hair and shower due to arthritis.

Robust, elegant, simple design. A fabulous bath seat. Comes fully assembled except you can slip the back bars into their under tye seat slots if you want to use it. Fully height adjustable. I raised mine to the top then had to lower it so my feet couod reach the floor.

Yes, this dies fit ijti tye bath tub. Turn it sideways if you need more space. Very very sturdy.

I have issues with mobility and standing up in the shower for long periods of time leaves me feeling quite dizzy. This stool fits nicely in my shower and it’s so light (not bulky or hard to get in and out of the shower).

The best part is: absolutely no assembly on your part is required! You’ll just need to remove some plastic wrap from the legs and seat, but the shower stool itself is already assembled and ready to be used!.

I LOVE this! It’s quite small but to be honest, I have a big butt and it fits fine! The fact that it’s small makes it so easy to maneuver, I can sit on it facing either direction. I find it more stable than my previous medical Tyrone stool.

For anyone with difficulty standing in the shower but not serious mobility issues, this is perfect. Great for fibromyalgia, dysautonomia or fatigue issues that make showers hard work. I could not be happier.

Seems to be sturdily constructed, is stable, and works well in my 32X30 inch stall. One word of caution: If your shower has a flimsy PLASTIC drain grate like mine does, make sure you don’t set a leg of this, or any other stool, on the drain.

In my shower, it would likely break the grate and drop into the drain. I plan to install a metal grate if I can find one that fits. My recommendation is conditional, as I would not recommend this stool for someone with serious balance problems, or limited ability to sit and stand unaided.

For that type of user, I think a wider, lower, 4-leg seat with a backrest would be better, and the person should never use it unattended. (I guess that goes without saying. ) I thought the price was reasonable, and the item arrived at my home quickly.

We bought this teak bench when having our master bathroom remodeled two years ago, and I regret buying it. The underside of the bench gets a white film/discoloration from showers (our shower is 3′ x 4′) and doesn’t easily come clean.

We have to take the bench off the wall at least once a year to restain the teak, and teak oil REEKS for days. I have asthma so this is not good. The smell also is headache-inducing. And it’s a pain because we’re literally taking it apart.

I’m concerned that we’re going to strip the wood behind the tile from having to remove it for cleaning and staining. We’re getting ready to take it off the wall again to restain it, but also because there’s a mold smell we can’t get out of the shower and we suspect it’s from moisture build-up behind the back.

There’s a gap behind it and between the slats, and I always rinse off the shaving cream when I shave my legs, so water gets behind it. I feel like we’re stuck with it because anything we’d buy to replace it would not cover both sets of holes in the tile, and it would be expensive if not impossible to remove those two tiles and have them replaced.

It’s wider than most benches as well, so we’d be filling holes in a marbled pattern tile with grout. NOT a look I’d be happy with. I would strongly recommend buying a folding bench that is maintenance-free, won’t allow mold to build up behind it, and is less expensive.

There weren’t as many options two years ago as I’m seeing today. I’m still going to call the tile guy to get his advice about swapping this out. It’s not worth the hassle. It’s sturdy, but only looks good for a short period of time before the film builds up.

I have installed 3 of these and my older clients love them. Things to know- screws are 16″ apart and you must put all screws in studs or pre block wall ( if you are remodeling) Also I recommend treating with teak oil prior to installing.

It will make it easier to get the 1 slat that will not come out on back rest if it is installed. Excellent Moen product. Also it will take 2 people to place seat and mark holes ( unfortunately no template).

Pre drill with 1/4″ glass/tile bit through Tile only. If not comfortable HIRE A PROFESSIONAL. I only have installed the brown oil rubbed bronze and it does match in color to other oil rubbed bronze (ORB) in Moen product line.

This has been so helpful in my shower. It is as pictured and assembly was simple. It is somewhat big so pay attention to the dimensions. Overall great quality and functional use.

This is a sturdy bench. Feels solid, no wobbles. Comfortable and good looking too. Exactly what I hoped for – a safe shower.

This is a very sturdy seat. My shower is a little small for it but I have confidence it wont move when I go to sit down. Very happy I bought it. It doesnt wobble and is very heavy quality.

So disappointed in our new 4 large/extra large overnight underwear. New discreet fit does not work for men. Leaked several times in 2 days. Very sorry we we were so pleased with the others. Used for over 4 years n loved they could be shipped to us.

Would highly recommend. This is a well made product. It is sturdy and locks in place. I am glad I bought this brand and this style. My husband used it postoperatively and it made showering easier and was the perfect size.

It was easy to assemble, light weight but sturdy. However, when I ordered, the information indicated there was accommodation for the shower curtain. As far as I can tell, that is not the case. The instruction sheet did not show how to handle the shower curtain.

I was in the tub sitting on the bench when suddenly the whole thing collapsed with the hinge breaking free from the bench. I was very painfully injured and due to knees and legs disability and my right side back hitting the faucet it was painful and hard for my husband to help get me out.

We are both in our 70s under the max weight max and would not recommend this product to elderly with mobility issues like ours.

I bought this to replace a teak wood stool for my shower. By family request, I got the foldable type, and this is VERY good- adjustable height legs, easy-fold legs (after the 1st or 2nd time I loosened the clip grip of the cross bar), easy-clean surface.

Good handles to move it without getting a slippery surface that slides out of your hands. Small enough for a box shower, but wide enough to seat a big adult. Highly recommend.

This works well for what I need it to do. I don’t use it as a bathtub stool, I use it as a gardening stool. The lower part of the legs are not attached to the upper part of the stool legs at arrival.

It would not be easy for an elderly person to complete the assembly by attaching the legs because they are difficult to insert and you have to slide them in very slowly or the spring that holds the locking portion of the leg will not pop the peg into the locking holes.

Also, you have to slide it in slightly at an angle until you get it to the position you want it to be in. Take notice that the numbers on the legs (1 & 2) match the numbers on the portion you are inserting them into.

Additionally, it is extremely difficult to fold the chair up once you are done using it. I had to use WD-40 on the metal parts where the seat locked into place so that I could unlock and fold it after use.

Folding it is still not easy even with the WD-40. I don’t know how an elderly person would be able to assemble and fold this chair without assistance.

For the most part I am happy with the bench. We have a bench in my parents home. I bought this for use at my home as It is much safer for my elderly parent. I discovered with this purchase, that the bench does not fit vertically in my tub, and the positioning was a bit different.

This was not an issue with the bench itself, but due to the interior shape/molding of my tub. The bench functions and works as it should. We are pleased!.

This bench for my tall (6 foot+) husband. It’s was pretty easy to assemble although I had some trouble with inserting the armrest and needed a friend’s help. But after that, it fit our needs perfectly.

It was easy to adjust to the different heights of the tub and bathroom floor. It’s light and easy for me to lift and move in and out of the bathroom.

I ordered a transfer bench from this company the product that I received had been opened and tampered with. I notified the company and they replaced the bench for me at no cost. I was allowed to keep the original bench so I plan to donate it to the Salvation army.

This is a great company and the bench is wonderful.

Perfect. Strong legs, sturdy back. Wobbles a little but think it was my error putting legs in wrong order. But still strong and sits firmly in tub. Wasn’t scratching tub like other one I had. I weight over 250 and showered a long time sitting on it with NO troubles.

Don’t need to pay more for a different one as this one is great.

I received my shower chair in a short amount of time, but when I received it, it had been damaged in shipping. The seat was broken. But customer service was very good about it and I just received my new seat.

It’s a very well made product and I would recommend this for any large person. Big or small, it’s very comfortable.

It was fairly easy to put together. It looks like it will work great for my husband, but he hasn’t tried it out yet. Need to get a new dual shower head. The instructions don’t say if the blue pad backing needs to come off to attach to the stool, or if you leave it on to just lay on the stool.

The bench is very well made and provides great support. I originally though it would not fit because my tub is narrow and the width of the seat appeared too wide to fit. But since the legs are centered closer in under the bench it made for a perfect fit.

💛 this shower bench. Its nqell contructed , good sized, all plastic ( no rusting screws or joints) and very stable. Removable sides work well & great if you are needing to slide into the chair with one side open.

Shower bench is very convenient and safe. Allows elderly mother to sit in the shower/tub comfortably and safely as it tightens securely between the sides of the tub. Easy to place in and take out of the shower/tub and light weight enough that it is not a nuisance.

Elderly mother feels more secure and safe being able to sit in the shower/tub while lathering up with shower gel/soap and using shower sponge. Red handle on one side provides stability. Bench provides my mother peace of mind to not slipping and falling and not standing in the shower the entire time, especially if she suddenly feels dizzy.

No shower “in-tub” stool fits as well in the tub and provides the safety and security necessary for an elderly person nervous about slipping or falling in the tub. I highly recommend this portable shower bench.

I SADLY HAVE TO RETURN THIS BENCH. THE IDEA OF IT IS GOOD, BUT IT WILL NOT WORK FOR EVERY TUB. MINE HAS A WIDE EDGE SO I COULD NOT SECURE IT TO THE TUB. AS IT SITS ON THE EDGE OF THE TUB IT IS A LOW SEAT SO IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE SITTING DOWN FROM A STANDING POSITION (SHOWERING) BE CAREFUL, IT’S ALSO NOT SO EASY TO RISE UP AS THERE IS NOTHING TO HOLD ON TO.

I RECOMMEND IT BECAUSE THE BASIC IDEA IS GOOD AND IT WILL WORK WELL FOR SOME TUBS AND PEOPLE.

Great idea and I think it would have been perfect. unfortunately, it did not fit in our tub which has as 21 inch opening and a very small lip on one side of the tub. This device must have a larger tub to fit.

Someone needs to make that clear in the description.

This stool is amazing! I love everything about it. It is a beautiful color and has a substantial feel to it. The teak is gorgeous and adds an organic element to bathroom. It fits perfect under my vanity and is comfortable to sit in while I do my makeup.

I am thoroughly pleased with this item and highly recommend.

This bench is perfect – it looks fabulous, easy to assemble, very well made and sturdy, arrived quickly – nothing negative to say about it! And it looks fabulous! Not the best photo, but it works so well with the reclaimed wood shelves and countertop storage to add in some warmth to the black and white.

I got two of these teak benches for a steam bath. They’re wonderful. I just wished they had sent two that were manufactured at the same time one was starting to darken more than the other so they didn’t match.
