20 Best Shorts For Concealed Carry (2023 Updated)

This has been my “go to” shorts and tactical pants style for several years now. First and foremost there is room at the groin area, I do not know when tight fitting tactical pants became a “thing'” and not all men are created equal, so tight pants for me are excruciating to wear.

I like the lightweight and durability of the fabric. Also the simplicity of the design is good, several pants by 5. 11 are overengineered with too many pockets, angles, logos etc. As a basic TDU pant these meet basic needs, there are several pockets and I can easily handle my EDC except that the exterior pockets and interior pockets do not accommodate (read as completely close) over the large iPhone or Samsung Phones which has proven to be a near disaster during a job in which I was working from the woods.

I had to lean back against a hillside and when I got up the phone had slipped from my pocket. Yes I had to walk back ten minutes in the dark and look for a black device on the forest floor. So lesson learned, phones go into a tactical bag since they are shut off anyways.

However if these pants were redesigned and the exterior leg pockets were made larger I feel everything else about these pants is worth purchasing in the future.

These shorts are very sturdy, practical and comfortable. I’ve been using them exclusively for over ten years. The extra pockets give me room for lots of handy (and emergency) supplies. Then, when the season changes, and Winter arrives, I just switch to the long-pants version, which has exactly the same pockets for gear.

Because I work as a Volunteer for emergency preparedness, it means that I ALWAYS have with me certain basics: paper towels, small plastic bags, bandages, antiseptic, cable ties, extra batteries for my portable Ham Radio, heavy marking pens, etc.

I hope I never need another kind of shorts!.

Shorts are stiff and heavy, l know they are supposed to be” tactical “! I have a couple pair of Duluth firehose pants that are more comfortable than these shorts. The front pockets are deep, but the opening is to small for conceal pocket carry.

I’m not trying to put a Glock 19 in them but a Ruger LCP MAX 380! It is next to impossible to draw the weapon, so much for a designation of tactical apparel. The cargo pockets are very shallow to the point of your phone not fitting.

Just very disappointed overall and truly not what I expected from this company!.

I’m new to wearing shorts often as I was a tried and trued pants guy even in the summer and living in the Mojave Desert. These shorts cost a bit of money but with age I have realized quality counts over cheap.

These shorts are well made, seem tough and I hope will last a long time. Plenty of pockets which I want. Cool variety of colors and I just wait for a 20% off sale and buy several pairs. Cherry on top is the stellar assistance I receive when I call 5.

11 the phone to ask questions and such and reach a real, live, person with little wait and he/she doesn’t have a foreign accent that I can’t understand.

This is my first experience with 5. 11 clothing, having previously only used their tactical gear. I’m very pleased with the quality of these shorts. They fit perfectly, with a little “give” in the waist for when I carry IWB.

The extra pockets are well located. And the belt loops are big and solid which is very important when you’re wearing a heavy duty 1. 5 inch tactical belt. Thank you.

The shorts are well made , and look good but the pockets front & back are not very deep. I carry a long style wallet and would probably lose it wearing these shorts. Front pockets are the same. They are a little tight around the legs when sitting which makes them uncomfortable, needs more leg room and maybe 12 or 13 inches long.

I am a bigger guy 6’ 3” 280lbs with big thighs, that makes finding shorts that fit hard to do. I can IWC or OWC in these. They will handle a good carry belt for your hoster. Very true to size around the wrist.

Good cool material , but not something for us fat guys.

First off, materials are great and quality workmanship. That’s where it ends. Front pockets are way too shallow to properly carry anything without the risk of losing it. On the other spectrum, the back pockets are crazy deep.

It would be great if I carried a traditional wallet but I don’t. The two smaller pockets along the waistband are decent but the pocket contents will poke you in the side. The pockets are designed perfectly for a deep carry clip.

I think I will stick to my taclite pro shorts and return these to the store.

I have many 5. 11 shorts and wear them all the time. I liked the pattern on these and saw the sale price so i ordered my size. They are too small and tight fitting. The front pockets are extremely shallow.

When i put what i normally carry in all the pockets they are way too tight. Not recommended.

Love these shorts! The fabric awesome and the fit and sizing is great. Plenty of pockets and I like that they’re not really a ‘cargo’ short, although I do love my Icon Shorts too. I will certainly be buying a couple more pairs of Aramis shorts.

This is my second time to. purchase Terrry Women’s touring bike shorts. The first pair lasted me for several hundred bike rides and I love Terry better than any other brand of bike shorts I’ve tried because they seem to be a better fit for women’s bodies than the unisex shorts.

I especially love the “touring” version of the short because of the extra padding and panels. This construction is especially great for long rides, but they are my “go-to” shorts for every ride. They are extremely comfortable for a 30-minute ride, an all day ride, and even a multi-day ride.

I can rinse them out in the sink and they are dry and ready for riding again the next day.

This is the 4th pair of cycling shorts I have owned since I got serious about riding and they are by far the best. Chamois is not bulky yet pads the proper places without feeling like a swampland. The waistband is super comfortable and doesn’t roll.

I’m not embarrassed to leave the house in them; no muffin topping or hideous bulging. The material is a bit slick so you can move on the saddle without the shorts shifting around. Definitely worth buying.

I’ve had the EDJ shorts for a few weeks now and have worn them multiple times. They look good and as others have mentioned, they don’t evoke the scorn from wives and girlfriends that cargo shorts seem to bring out.

The fabric is quite heavy and they seem like they will hold up well. The waist fit was true to size. They are nicely cut. comfortable in the seat and thighs without being too full or baggy for a smaller guy like myself.

I really like the addition of the 2 Hip pockets and find them useful. I’m still undecided about the zippered pocket on the right thigh. it is a good concept as a substitute for a cargo pocket but doesn’t hold as much, and I can feel the items I put in there (like a Fenix E12 flashlight or a small wallet) against my thigh.

I’m thinking that’s because it isn’t an external pocket (like a traditional cargo pocket) but instead has an internal pocket bag which extends towards the front of the thigh. Not terribly annoying or a deal breaker but just different if you are used to wearing traditional cargo shorts.

Since the look of these shorts is actually quite nice, which makes them suitable for dressier casual wear, I initially thought the left-sided slip pocket was a bad idea…more like something you’d see on “carpenter” shorts.

I’m still not convinced that they were the best type of pocket design to be included in these shorts BUT…they do come in very handy and are positioned such that they are not terribly noticeable. so I can deal with them.

One last thing…Colors! Black is not a color that I associate much with shorts and I’m not a big fan of Grey. I got these in Coyote and would order additional pairs if they came in Khaki and OD.

I bought a pair of the tan and a pair of the black. The fit is sized correctly and the pockets are useful. The lower, right zipped pocket securely holds my minimalist wallet, the bonus back pocket holds my knife, and this frees a front pocket for a CC.

The material is at least jeans quality and should last. The only downside is the black shorts. I’ve had them on for only a few hours and in the sun I look like a slob. Everything shows; cat hair, dog hair, any dust conforms to pocket item shapes, etc.

In comparison, the tan shorts show nothing. I’m an average joe that doesn’t want to ever fear getting dirty, so I prefer the tan.

So, I’ve worn these shorts a couple times. Great fit, great price, great product. One small issue is the hip pocket is kind far back. The LAPG jeans is the same. About an inch from the side seam. And only a half inch from the back pocket.

So like a higher back pocket. That position you can feel the mag, wallet, cellphone or whatever, on your hip. Unlike the other similar (more expensive) shorts. If the pocket can be moved more towards the side seam, it would be so much better.

But, still a great product for the price.

Don’t get me wrong, these shorts are very comfortable but the problem is the quality. The shorts began piling after 3-4 washes. The button on the waist band is sewed on very cheaply and now that is also falling off.

I also have some loose strings at the end of my shorts as well. Overall, if prAna fixes this then it would be a perfect score but I can’t justify giving it a 5 star rating when these shorts cost $70 and my $15 shorts are holding up better.

I wore my shorts for the first time last night. The fit was great with an elasticized waist for some after dinner give. I love the pockets (4) in the front. They are also why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5.

I think the longest pocket is a little too long. I put my keys in the long pocket and as I walk my knee hits the keys and makes them rattle and makes noise while I walk. I don’t normally take my keys out of my pocket so being in the deep pocket is not a concern but I think a real key pocket would be a good addition.

If I changed pockets and put my keys in the shorter pocket the long pocket would make getting to my wallet a little hard while sitting down. The change stopper I don’t know what this is unless its a design feature to stop change from falling out but the pockets are deep enough to prevent this as well as well as stopping a pick pocket.

The rear pockets are held closed by small magnets that seems to work just fine. With one pocket long and one extra long things do not set on top of one another in the layered pockets so the short front has a nice flat look not bulky or sticking out at all.

The Short material is very nice and soft goes well with a nice dress shirt here in Florida. I am not sure I would call these cargo shorts but they were a very good buy all in all.

I appreciated the fit and color, however the “normal” pockets did not lay flat to the contours of the shorts. Every time I reached in to the pockets, they stayed extended and did not provide a flattering or streamlined look.

Additionally, the larger deeper pockets were too wide for my needs and my (rather large) cell phone would twist sideways in the pocket causing it to bind in the well when attempting removal as well as not staying vertical when walking.

Lastly, the rear pockets had no retention features (zipper, button, etc), so I wouldn’t feel comfortable putting anything of value in those.

Love the fit on these shorts. The elastic in the waistband makes for a really comfortable wear. The idea of hidden cargo pockets are nice. My only issue is (probably due to my lameness) that since each side of the shorts has two pockets (large deep one and a less deep smaller one) which are accessed the same, I find myself constantly reaching into the wrong pocket.

Again, thats probably on me. Also, don’t accidentally put anything really small (golf tee or ball marker, coins, etc. ) in the larger pocket because you will have a bear of a time getting it out due to the internal cut and stitching of the pocket.

That said, I love these shorts and will be getting more in the future.

I’ve had my pair for almost 2 years. In those two years, I have had only one complaint. Soon after they got wet the first time they began to pill. Now I do live in an intense climate (New Orleans) so that may contribute to them pilling so fast, but that sh it looks ratchet.

My mom told me I look homeless in them. I still wear them because I exercise a clothing philosophy similar to that of the huns. However you would think that weatherproof material would not be so prone to ugly pilling.

Also, I have seen other reviews complaining that the zipper stops staying up all the way after awhile, which I also find to be true. To me the U-Lock holster is essentially useless, and would have preferred easier access to the second belt loop from the left as that is where I generally clip my keys.

I always ride with mine stuck inside my waistband and was hoping for this to be a better solution. Don’t get me wrong y’all, these are great shorts and have served me well. I think this time I will go with the Senecas because that zip pocket looks clutch.

One last thing, these are just slightly too long for my tastes so I find myself cuffing them pretty often.

Very comfortable around the apartment and on my bike. The reinforced crotch also serves as mild padding, but it definitely doesn’t look weird. The seat belt strap to hold a ulock is still a question mark for me.

I wish I could cover it up with a belt, but the design has the belt underneath the strap. It’s odd, the reflective logo is under the belt and the strap is over the belt. It works ok, because the belt covers up the heavy branding on the label.

Honestly, I would prefer a change / coin pocket over the seat belt. But the fit is the best amongst all the chrome shorts: natoma, seneca, union and folsom. I generally do not tuck in my shirt so it’s not really a problem visually with the seat belt strap.

It’s just not that useful to me and I ride every day in NYC and carry a ulock. I just always have a bag. The cardiel shank for example. Or other hip packs to avoid sweaty back. In sub 50 temps a backpack works better for holding a lock.

Frankly, it’s preferable to stash a lock inside a bag when it’s very cold. If you have ever had a near frozen ulock touch your bare skin, it’s unpleasant. Though, I don’t wear shorts when it’s too cold.

These shorts deserves a decent pocket. Fit is great. Length is great. Pockets need the smallest amount of love. More colors would be awesome, but I’ll happily pickup additional pairs as my budget allows.

Chrome should sell a webbed belt that can somehow, carry a ulock without looking stupid. Then any pair of pants or shorts could facilitate the same convenience as is intended for the folsom shorts, without forcing the feature into the basic design.

All that said, the seat belt / belt works well for attaching a dklein feed bag. I think I’ll eventually grow attached to the seat belt strap, but for now, I’m still unsure how it fits.

These are great looking, very comfy and clearly VERY well-made shorts. I mean, they appear pretty bomb-proof. I wear them for commuting, gravel/adventure riding, casual wear, and occasionally mountain biking.

The only shortcoming is, at this price point, I think there should be at least one pocket that is secured somehow–zipper, velcro, anything. If just one of the rear pockets had a zipper for example, I’d feel safer with my wallet back there commuting.

And, these rear pockets are a pickpocket’s dream – the openings are quite loose. Great shorts but as I say, for this price there should be at least one secure pocket of some kind.

Fantastic material and variation in storage area for either operational use or just standard wear. A large choice of colours and large belt loops to allow a large degree of choice with type of belt. I feel the only minor negative is the choice of velcro closure on the waist as this will clog over time, a further addition of closure such as hook and eye or similar would really enhance this product.

I would give it 5 stars but as this velcro issue has been picked up i reluctantly give it 4. A seamstress will no doubt be able to add a further method of closing but this is at cost and also adds to the minor knock down.

2 pairs now. Great pockets, two slot fit iPhone 11 perfectly, two bellows fit light jacket, ball, dog bags etc, two hand lockets deep enough to keep keys and hands. Rip stop is rock solid, little stuff until washed a few times.

First pair are several years old and immaculate and just more comfortable.

Great pair of shorts. worth spending that little bit more to get good quality product.

The waist band is so comfortable. It’s like sweatpants. I bought these shorts in all colors. Highly recommend!

I wear these shorts out for an evening dinner and at special gatherings because they’re extremely comfortable and fit to my size. The stretch fabric is what make these shorts so comfortable.

I’ve enjoyed Lee Extreme Comfort shorts in the past. I feel they are a notch or two above in style, fit, and comfort. Exceptional value at this price.

Good pair of shorts, plenty of room in the basement and nice light material. They hang just above the knee so don’t get in the way of your general day to day movement. My only gripe would be the flappy pockets are not very deep so your phone hangs out the top, not the end of the world to be fair.

The other pockets are great and are spacious. Would definitely buy again.

I have the same trousers and they are brilliant but these shorts are at least one size smaller than the equivalent trousers. Very disappointed as they are good value and high quality,why can’t manufacturers remain consistent with their sizing.

Stylish almost too good to get dirty. Might do a bit of walking in them first, love all the pockets. Feels well made, loads of velcro pockets and tool carriers fold away into front pockets. Not worn to test breathability yet.

But good fit (im a 36+bought a 36). Big belt buckles too if needed.

Being non rip means that they appear to me manly polyester. There is no “give” in them and are a bit sweaty in this hot weather. A lot of good size pockets and are strong so should last well on sites

my grandson likes them better than scruffs because they are shorter and its all about having brown legs !!!! [he’s a builder]

Good work shorts for summer. Lightweight but hard wearing. Waist comes up big though. My 32 was more like a 34.

Great shorts extremely comfy. The tool pockets at the top could do with being on the sides more as sometimes when bending down if you have things in the loops they can tend to get in your way. Apart from that great shorts.

Perfect for work, multiple pockets make things so much easier at work, will certainly be ordering more!

Bought these shorts for my husband who had the snicker work trousers. Would recommend going up one or two sizes as they are a smaller fit than the trousers. Very happy with them.

I wear these shorts for running and tennis. They excel at both. For running, the back pocket is zippered so I can put my truck key inside them without the key fob falling out. The front pockets have a mini pocket inside them too for whatever you need.

For tennis, the front pockets hold a tennis ball perfectly. The pockets aren’t super deep (maybe some consider that a negative) and holds the ball as needed. They wear comfortable and don’t get heavy with sweat.

Add to that the dope color options and and look. Win win win.

Honestly I love TD products. When they are on sale I truly feel it’s a great value. The shorts I ordered did have holes in the pockets where they were not sewn or missed the stitching. If I paid full price I’d definitely be upset.

I’ll sew them up myself. The material is soft like boxer shorts. They fit nicely like slightly longer boxer shorts. Not quite marine shorts. But shorter than board shorts. If I could recommend something it’d be to keep the QC up.

Great shorts. Like the interior pockets. Good fit. Structured enough to wear anywhere all day, but light and flexible enough for workouts. I play Pickleball in ‘em regularly. This version seems better quality than the solid gray version I bought on sale earlier this year.

I was in desperate need to find a new pair of shorts that would work for traveling. They needed to fit well, dry fast, and be able to dress up a bit with a polo after a day of hiking. I found my new favorite in the Kuhl Silencer short.

Lots of pockets but still having a slim profile was a huge bonus. They dried wicked fast after a rainstorm in St. Lucia and I wore them several times throughout the week and they never got wrinkled. I did see there were several complaints about the top clasp of the short but I have not had any issues with that at all.

I will definitely be buying another pair in a different color.

I own a pair of the pants by the same name, and I love them! I tried these shirts and was disappointed. Whereas the pants are a bit more relaxed fit, the shorts are tighter in the thigh and seat. It’s just a different fit/cut.

Otherwise I like the overall fit, materials, the construction, and yes, even the button. I can understand how some people might not like it (the button), but I’ve never had the issue. Perhaps it matters how the garment sits on your hips – there’s a way the snap comes undone easier.

I really wanted to like these shorts. I love the ripstop material and the overall construction seems solid. Unfortunately the legs are tapered pretty tight. I’m 6’1, 170 lbs and wear a 34″ waist will a little bit thicker thighs (think dad bod).

These were just too snug around the thighs for my liking. When trying them on in the store and walking around they seemed fine, but once out on the mountain, the restrictive movement became noticeable, even with the stretch material.

I ultimately returned these and went with the Kuhl Renegade which has a looser fit, but no ripstop fabric.
