20 Best Shoes For Spin Bike (2023 Updated)

Not being able to exercise at the gym due to the pandemic, I decided to give home spin classes a try. I’m purchased the Schwinn IC4, swapped out the pedals with a pair that are compatible with my husband’s existing road cycle setup, and purchased these shoes.

I wear a 9. 5US so I purchased these in 42. They fit well but I imagine they might run a tad small for some. I have a narrow heel that easily slips out of most shoes but not with these. I love how easy it is to put them on, take them off, and adjust if needed mid ride.

I can’t compare these with other shoes since I’m new to indoor cycling but so far I have no reason to look elsewhere.

I only have about 100 miles on them so far, but I love them. Super comfy for a road shoe, and they feel light and durable. I wear a 10. 5 US mens, and the 45 is a great fit. The only thing that’s missing is more arch support, but that’s just personal preference.

I bought these when upgrading my hybrid bike’s pedals to the Shimano SPD SL system. This is my first foray into proper road shoes and I couldn’t believe how incredibly light these shoes are after using MTB shoes (without cleats) but they also feel very sturdy.

The three velcro straps provide a great fit around the foot. I am usually a UK size 9 shoe so went up to the EU 44 (UK 9. 5) and they are pretty snug – I probably could have got away with the EU 45 but I’m not in any discomfort when riding or walking.

There is also plenty of ventilation through the shoe which I noticed as soon as I started riding in them. I look forward to many more miles in my Shimano RC1s!.

These are good shoes. They fit well, nice color, but the soles are made out of some kind of hard plastic that was so slick, even though it has tread, I almost slipped on my hardwood floor just trying them on in my own living room.

I would absolutely hesitate to get off the trail, commute around to a grocery store, and walk in the aisle. Because there simply is no traction on these soles.

Cycling shoe sizes are NOT standardized across all brands, so be thorough on researching customer comments. I wear an 8 in US women’s casual & dress shoes. But not in cycling shoes because all brands use a different standard, which is inconsistent.

But these Garneau women’s shoes in 40Eu = 8 in US casual shoes. The toe box is ample but well fitting. Previously I bought GIRO 40 Eu said to be equal to an 8. 5 US women. They felt fine until my toenails became in grown though they had barely grown.

Actually these were size 7. 5 US ! I was stuck with the shoes- live & learn. So according to previous buyers 40 Eu =8 US. Glad I bought the correct size & got this bargain! I do not use these as clipless , I use with flat pedal innovation with spikes.

I was concerned my shoes would grab the soikes well but they grab better than my GIRO flat bottomed cycling shoes. The color of the shoes is more purple than pink as it looks online but I like them! They are comfortable, quick to step in & tighten.

Glad I made a good choice of shies this time! Did a quick 37 mi first time on , no blusters, rubs or instability!!!.

Now that I’ve used these shoes a few weeks, here’s my experience. I am a frequent but casual rider. I am a M 9. 5, 43, and these shoes are true to size for me. They are comfortable and stiff, and the bottom sole rubber lugs protrude enough that the clears don’t click in the grocery store.

(among other rides, I went shopping for a couple items, twice. ).

Shimano says these were redesigned to have a wider toe box. I can only imagine what the previous design was like. I have a fairly standard-width foot (Bannock device measures me between a C and B width) and these things feel like ballerina slippers.

To be fair, all manufacturers of cycling shoes seem to think that’s how cycling shoes should fit. I don’t get it. Narrow shoes can lead to all kinds of cycling injuries. Specifically metatarsalgia which is common among cyclists (I’ve had it, it sucks).

I tried swapping out the insole for my other cycling shoes, on which I installed a metatarsal pad. But they’re still too crammed. It’s not just the width, either. They have a low volume toe box which causes cramming of the metatarsals.

Even though they’re listed as “Volume+”. So I guess these do have a slightly wider toebox than other cycling shoes. But that’s not really saying much. I got these on sale for a very good price, so I’m really disappointed that they have to go back.

Shimano makes a wide version of them but REI doesn’t carry them and they’d probably be too wide in the heel and mid foot anyway. It’s really too bad because they check all the other boxes for design.

They would be a perfect trail shoe if they had a better fit. I might look elsewhere for the wide version of them. I really want them to fit! Length seems true to size. I’m a 10. 5/11 and the 45’s fit well (in length) with thin cycling socks.

I also tried the 46 and they were too big.

I have had these shoes for 6 weeks now doing 2 or 3 long rides a week through a wet Lakeland autumn so they have had a good testing and have impressed. My last pair of shoes (Specialised BG Comp) were great and lasted over 10 years of hard use before failure and these Shimano shoes look good for many years too, certainly better than anything else I looked at.

The Michelin sole gives a very good level of grip either for quick foot dabs or those sections of trail that just aren’t rideable, the grip on wet rock is excellent and pretty good on wet grass & mud.

The uppers not having mesh sections are fairly water resistant, the cuff around the heel combines with the tongue to keep out rock gravel but once wet the shoe is slow to dry out but the lack of mesh means less water gets in unless you ride/walk through a river or it is just a proper wet Lake District day.

The shoe feels robust but not heavy. Good stiffness for power transfer to the pedals but fine to walk fair distances in. The removable insole is substantial, looks likely to last the life of the shoe and supports my high arches well and helps hold my narrow heels in place.

One of my feet is substantially smaller and narrower than the other and the speed lace and ratchet strap work well to provide a decent fit. For me these shoes have been one of those rare shoe purposes that feel spot on.

No shoe is perfect. And when I boughty first pair of these last year I removed to lace cover and gaiter just to improve the ventilation. But after a year on them and trying other things in similar style, I can say these outshine the competition by far.

First and foremost the cleat mounts directly to the shoe and doesn’t have that weird recess channel like everyone else is doing. Gives you a low stack, no need to shim anything and a very good pedal feel.

Second the cleat placement is centered unlike others that seem to move it inboard and give you make you feel like you’re standing on the outside of your pedals. This year Shimano didn’t do half sizes and I was disappointed but with the right insoles the 46 works well for me (previously had a 45.

5, 11-11. 5 street shoe). If you use a flatter or the stock insoles your feet spread out more in the shoe. A more arched insole and you can fit a little smaller shoe. I’ve ridden the previous version everywhere from DH park to Moab.

They are incredibly durable and the soles look great after a year. But the thing I like most is the balance between flexibility and stiffness. They pedal excellent but give you some flexibility to twist your feet during bike control.

They don’t have that dead stiff feel. just right. These new ones have a little better ventilation. And while I thought I’d want a boa, I have broken a boa on the trail. Something that won’t happen with these.

For a long time I avoided cycling shoes because I feared ‘clipping in’, and even more so clipping out. I finally convinced myself to try cycling shoes and I shopped forever to find the right pair. I am beyond impressed by these! They fit perfectly (I wear a size 8.

5 in sneakers, slightly wider toe box. I got a 41 in these shoes). I use these for my road bike, even though they are mountain bike shoes. So far they don’t even look worn, even though I’ve put hundreds of miles on them already.

They feel well-built, very high quality. Not the most exciting color, but you really can’t go wrong with black shoes. Highly recommend.

Today was my first ride with these cycling shoes so I can’t comment on durability, but they fit well and it was easy to install and adjust the Shimano cleats (sold separately). I usually take a women’s size 11 shoe (273 mm foot length) and found that the sizing chart’s recommendation of Euro size 44 was accurate and provided ample length with a narrow width.

Time will tell regarding the breathability of the synthetic leather but it kept my feet dry when I walked through long wet grass. Cleats are recessed enough to minimize slippage and the enhanced lugs provide a comfortable walking experience.

Can someone somebody please give me a call or an email message about the shoes that I purchased not even that long ago. I use them once a week and I just realized that the bottoms near where the clips are are cracking they shouldn’t be that way.

The shoe is comfortable and feels good riding. Done over 50 miles with them so far and have no complaints. However, the cleats sent with the shoes were junk. I assume cheap metal because they deformed trying to use.

I am a certified spinning instructor and teach hour long classes. I bought these initially because of the price, deciding to give them a try. Although I was somewhat skeptical that such a low cost cycling shoe would perform the wanted, I can gladly say that these shoes are fabulous!!! They are comfortable and high quality, great support that allows for strong, even pedal strokes.

I have not encountered a shoe for this quality for this price ever. I’m so glad I made this purchase.

I?ve had Giro Gauges for years and I?ve tried a few other models from them as well. These are definitely a comfortable and a quality shoe. The soles are somewhat stiff but not as stout as the carbon soled models.

I would say these are geared more for a casual trail and cross country mtb shoe. For competitive cyclocross and race ready mtb riding I would want something a bit stiffer. However these are perfect for those weekend trail days where you may get off the bike and walk back up the jump line or have a few hike-a-bike moments.

These are also good off the bike to walk up and order coffee or grab a long lunch and beer after the ride. The quicklace feature is nice as well. Seems like a good alternative to the BOA system with much less opportunity for trail failure or maintenance.

The lace up is snug and quick to engage. I do feel like the long lace is a bit awkward to tuck away afterwords and the Velcro strap over the top may be unneeded as the tension at the top of the lace is already very tight.

I think maybe the Velcro could have been a more clever storage pocket for the extra lace material instead. They run pretty true to size and the materials are high quality and a nice lightweight and breathable construction.

The soles are for sure more grippy than my gauges were. Stoked to put more miles on these.

I’m using these primarily for commuting, and so far very happy. I had been using some Shimano shoes before this that seemed to have a pretty pointy narrow toe box – these fit much more comfortably. The flex hits the happy medium: it’s stiff enough that you don’t feel you’re giving up energy when pedaling, but they’re still OK for walking / portaging.

The fastlace system with the velcro strap works well, durability is always a little bit of a concern with something like that because it would be inconvenient for it to fail during a ride, but it’s the same system I have on my hiking boots and I haven’t had any trouble with my boots at all.

Overall, these work great for what I wanted them for.

I’ve been using an old SIDI cross country shoe with a super stiff sole for many years before finally wearing them out and switching to this. It’s definitely a more trail oriented shoe and its super nice that’s its actually wearable off the bike.

At first I was worried the fastlace would get in the way but its actually designed to tuck away into the forefoot laces and then under the strap for a clean look and no chance of getting caught up anywhere on the bike.

I have the BOA laces on a road pair of Giro’s and don’t think its worth the extra $50 on this shoe unless that’s the only size option available, then I wouldn’t hesitate to pick it up instead of the fastlace.

And sizing is spot on, true for me with no hot spots yet.

Upgraded from the ME3, ME4 and now the ME5. These shoes rise a bit higher towards the ankle than their predecessors, seeming to add a bit more protection for pedal strikes and the like. They fit my foot like a glove and the Boa fastening, threaded through the tongue, snugs them up a and holds things steady much, much better than the ME4.

I was stoked on these shoes from the minute I put them on. Perfect fit and equally excellent for pedaling or hike a bike. Then, on my second ride, my first run of the day at the bike park, I laid my bike down in a turn and the Boa cable snapped when the dial clipped the ground.

Never before had I ever carried an extra set of shoes in my car, but on this day I had, and it was back to the ME4’s. I was quite bummed on the ME5 BOA’s lack of durability. My ME4 BOA has taken beating after beating and still kept working.

Back in the ME4’s, the velcro straps could never be pulled snug enough and the tongue instantly slipped off to the side of my foot, exposing my sock and loosening the fit; as per usual with my year old, stretched out, tattered and battered ME4’s.

I’ve been riding with Shimano shoe’s for over 20 years but I was thinking it may be time to consider an alternative. In my experience, Shimano was always great with warranty replacements when soles delaminated, but I had sorta crashed this time.

I wondered, was I going to be out the $180 bucks I just dropped on these shoes? That night I went onto the Boa website, filled out the warranty replacement questionnaire and a few days later I had a free Boa repair kit in my mailbox.

With the help of a BOA youtube video I was able to replace the dial and cable in about 10 minutes. Job done. My new shoes are good as new. No buyers remorse, just a satisfied customer. In contrast to the ME4, these shoes are very similar bit the replacement of one of the velcro straps with more Boa makes a big difference in how snugly you can fasten these to your feet.

They’re quite a bit pricier than the ME4, but you still get what you pay for with these shoes.

These shoes are going into the parts bin. After a full season, I’ve come to the conclusion that these shoes suck. Shimano, why did you think a wire (boa) across the top of the foot and over such a thin tongue material would work, I have no idea.

But no matter what, these shoes are uncomfortable. Leave them too loose and your heal pulls up, no support, etc. Tighten them up, and you have a miserable hot spot on the top of you foot that causes cramps.

Shimano appears to also have changed sizing recently. Shimano 45/10. 5 US used to be good for me. Not in this shimano shoe. If you read this review and still want to try them out, I’d suggest going with the smaller size if you are on the fence.

So I’m back in the shoe market already again, all I know is I’m done wearing these painful SH-ME5 foot killers.

I wear a 10. 5 shoe and bought these in a size 44. I’m not a bike shoe connoisseur and have on only owned other Shimano mtb shoes and a couple of Giro pairs. Just bought a second pair of these as I like them the best and worry they will be discontinued or replaced with a new design I won’t like as much.

BOA system is easy and quick to use to get a snug fit. Shoe is stiff enough for me for on the bike but still provides good hike a bike traction and comfort when needed. They are not super light nor heavy.

Other Shimano shoes I have had in the past have had a highly ventilated mesh toe box which leads to wet socks/feet even with minor creek crossings. Not so with these as are fairly closed in toe area but is still breathable.

I recommend them as an all round great recreational trail and XC riding shoe.

This is my second pair of these shoes. They are very comfortable on long rides and are wide fit. The first pair outsides got destroyed on the side of the shoe from the conditions I ride in, after about 6 months.

The second pair would of ended the same, except I took them to the cobbler and had them add about 4×1 inch of toe guard rubber to the side of the shoes. They need to to add some protection to the sides of the shoe or my next pair will not be Specialized.

I would only recommend this shoe to someone who does not ride in the rocky conditions that I ride in.

I’ve been a big fan of my Torch 1. 0 with delta clips for indoor riding but wanted a shoe I could walk and drive in to get to class. These feel almost identical to the Torch 1. 0 even with the SPD clips.

Besides clipping in you wouldn’t even know it was a different shoe. So if you’re an indoor cyclist but want a show you can walk and drive to class in with the similar feel of the Torch 1. 0, this is for you.

Happy I pulled the trigger on these.

Generally love Specialized – now riding my 4th straight Epic. OK, I’m a fan boy. Have gone through 3 or 4 pair of Specialized mtb shoes, usually comp level. I like the fit and weight. But the BOA dial is not great – seems lose its place, loosening the fit during rides.

And it can be banged off against rocks – I just did this. Went down kinda hard on a fall that had me rolling over a bit and during that, one shoe happened to hit rock right on the dial, which popped off and cannot be reattached.

I’ve just learned BOA has some sort of “lifetime guarantee” on the dial, so I placed a claim. We shall see what brings.

Asethetic: 4/5 Fit: 5/5 Ease of wearing: 1/5 Durability: 4/5 Ventilation: 4/5 Asethetic – Polarising for some. Form follows function. Fit – S-works body geometry fits me like a glove. The toe box is roomier than road 7.

Initially, the width felt very very tight. The hold on my mid foot is exceptional compared to the road 7. Inner sock looks high but it doesnt rub against the ankle Ease of wearing: Incredibly hard to wear compared to road 7 until i used a shoe horn.

It was like the inner sock was going to tear. Durability: Rubberised toe guard is a positive over road 7. This will prevent scraping off the Dyneema on the toe area with wheel rub. Boa Li2 dials is non metal.

Ventilation: Improved Summary: Exceptional footwear. The hold on the foot is nothing short of amazing, even coming from the pro level S-works Road 7. Look beyond the asethetic (form follows function), high price tag and shoe horn requirement and you will be duly rewarded on your rides.

I bought these shoes on sale from Specialized. com. I ordered size 43. 5 to replace my size 44 Specialized Pro shoes. Sizing story: I got the Pros in a larger size than I normally wear because I needed width, but then I found that had to set the cleats to their aft limit to get the balls of my feet over the pedal spindles.

So when I ordered these new shoes, I just followed the sizing instructions on Specialized. com, which came up with 43. 5. Turns out they are physically the same length as the 44 Pros, just narrower. But inexplicably, the lugs for mounting the cleats were moved closer to the toe (which meant that with the cleats slid all the way back, the balls of my feet would still be positioned behind the spindle).

I tried to contact Specialized rider support through both phone and email, and amazingly, they did not respond at all except for this survey. End of story: I ended up exchanging them for a size 43 at my LBS – very gracious of them – and was able to get the cleats positioned properly.

Although getting these shoes on my wide feet isn’t easy, they are amazingly comfortable on the road, and even though they’re an extravagance, I’m glad I bought them.

I love the fit, performance and look of this shoe. It really does pedal like their s-works 7 road shoe which I also own. That shoe to me has nothing wrong with it and is almost perfect. This shoe on the other hand.

well, it had a very serious imperfection. The two rubber pads to the left and to the right of where you place your cleat did not slowly disintegrate – it was like the ocean washing over sand any time you’d walk in them.

it was gone just like that. MTB shoes you say? Well, try walking on gravel 20 feet to a port-a-potty. the soft rubber didn’t like that. After 1 month I was walking on my cleats. And for good measure, no, I didn’t race in them nor hike in them AT ALL.

It really was unacceptable. Fortunately, the place I bought them from refunded me. They said I could try another pair. As much as I wanted to give them another shot, I couldn’t stomach risking that again and I switched to Shimano which have been great.

In mountain biking or gravel biking, it’s really important to be able to dismount your bike and walk on your shoes. That’s why they are built different from road shoes. I have read that this same thing has happened to multiple people and I am not alone.

However, it was the first report of such an incident from the place I bought mine here in Portland. They are great fitting shoes. I love the BOA system, the carbon platform is incredible. The materials used on the shoe are superior to most.

I used the shoe in the mud and pouring rain and they were good – but with that rubber issue I could not recommend them. It’s an absolute gamble given the pair you receive. Ultimately, it sounds like a manufacturing issue.

it’s so important for Specialized to get this issue resolved because without those pads, you are walking on metal cleats which is not safe or durable. For the love of god, that is what these shoes are designed for.

Give them a shot at your own risk.

I bought this shoe with a lot of expectation, paying a good price for it. The fitting of the shoe was perfect, but when I tried to close the velcro, it was not reaching the closing position. Had to return the shoe.

If anybody wants to buy this, they should first try it out at the store and make sure that it fits.

I am training for triathlon event. These are my first road cycling shoes. For the first timer…I felt comfortable and getting desired push on pedals. My average speed has also increased.

Nicely made, like the velcro instead of laces.
