20 Best Shoes For Roofing Work (2023 Updated)

I really like my boots and the fit is fine. The only thing I don’t like is that the right boot, although laced up tight, has bulging sides. I can’t tighten them up anymore and it’s still loose. The left boot isn’t like that.

It’s weird because the right boot has more of a gap at the laces looking like it isn’t as tight as the left, but it’ll be in fact tighter. I think it was too big of a cut for the side peices. Emailed Thorogood about it thinking possibly another defective pair (the first pair was definitely defective with the leather at the sole bunching up where you foot would bend) I sent those back.

I recon I would expect a little better quality on these boots, but not unhappy with them. They are comfortable. Much more than my Redwings. I think Redwing is a better quality boot once you break them in.

Thorogood is ready to wear right out of the box. All in all, I might buy another pair of Thorogoods, but might try another brand for comparison. Buying boots is a big deal for me. I think others would agree.

Have been delayed in writing this review but so happy I received an email to remind me. Well let me start by saying, these boots Saved my Son’s Foot! My son is a Local 5 Iron worker, and since his Apprenticeship started, he has worn these boots.

Well worth the money! My son will be finishing his Apprenticeship June 2022, with his foot intact Thanks to these boots. He recently (June 9)had the unfortunate accident, while moving a pallet Jack onto a hoist.

The pallet Jack slipped off the 2×4 needed to load the Jack onto the hoist. (Safety Flaw-now noted), and it slipped onto his foot. While this accident could have had a worse outcome this Steele toe boots Saved His FOOT! Since this accident, the Safety Inspector asked if he could have the damaged boot as a Safety Demonstration, as to why Steele toed boots are required.

Excellent boots. Lasted me a little over a year working in a very harsh work environment. Heavy iron castings and extreme temperatures from 160 and even up to (infrequently) 200 degrees down to -30 and I didn’t notice a thing.

Very comfortable. Will definitely buy again.

Boots are comfortable but feel big. I normally wear size 10 and have for the past 20 years. I think they run a little big. Other than that they feel like my chuck Taylor’s I wear on the court.

I like the style and durability of the defender 6 inch also the type sole doesn’t track in dirt as the other type soles. I have worn the Iron age shoes before retirement and was glad to find them again.

This gets a 3 star because I was very uncomfortable with the tongue of the shoe once I laced them up. I wore them for about 3 hours with one break before enough was enough..

Very comfy and stable work shoe. I work 12 hr shifts and these shoes feel great. Bought a pr of 115 dollar reeboks that weren’t even close to these in comfort and stability. These soldiers are worth every penny and I plan on getting the scouts to try out for a pair to just wear around they feel that good on the feet.

I paid for rush shipping and ordered on a Saturday and received on a Tuesday. Verry satisfied with this shoe purchase.

I bought these shoes cause I wanted shoes instead of boots. Cause I can wear shorts to work. Plus I got the blue colored cameo ones cause they match the colors of my work. Fixing to buy a pair of defenders for the wife.

These Wolverines are a strong boot and seem to be made very well, and are very sturdy. However I do have some comfort issues when wearing them on a daily basis. I’ve used them for about two weeks, and they certainly feel “more-comfortable” as they continue to break-in.

however, they are not comfortable out-of-the-box, whatsoever. Not on my feet anyways. The main issue for me is that the boots are very loose-fitting for their listed size, even for a work boot (understanding that many boots are somewhat oversized to allow for work-appropriate socks and winter socks).

Adding aftermarket insoles helped tremendously, stacked in-addition to the existing insoles. The secondary concern I have is stiffer sections of the inner material rubbing against the top of my foot in two separate places.

I’m hoping continued usage/break-in alleviates that problem. My father had a pair of these exact boots just about a year ago, and had the same issues as I do – Very stiff at some internal points, and simply not very comfortable to begin.

I can’t recommend avoiding them nor favoring them, as the price is LOW enough that you will likely get the USAGE you need from them as they are sturdy and seem built-to-last, yet price is HIGH enough that I wonder why there isn’t more emphasis on COMFORT.

I probably wouldn’t repurchase.

I bought these to replace some older work boots I had, only wore these for about three weeks before I couldn’t any longer. They’re very durable and have held up to a great amount of abuse in the few weeks they were worn, however they were extremely uncomfortable on my feet.

The start of the steel toe rubs against the side and top of my foot, and they were very loose to fit. Many uncomfortable rubbing points, and something about them made my entire feet sore into my ankles.

These started destroying my feet within the first few hours of use, and although they felt better as they began to break-in, they still never softened enough to convince me to continue daily-use. I’ve been wearing various work boots with steel toe since before I was ten years-old.

I originally bought these because I remembered that my father also had a pair of these exact boots about two years ago, however I did not remember that he was not very impressed with the fit of the boots, at all.

They’ll surely be used again at some point, but I can’t use them on a daily basis or for extended periods of time. I work nearly 12 hour shifts in warehouse and these simply won’t work for that, not for me.

I have purchased these boots twice. I am overall satisfied with the comfort, weight, and features provided by these boots. The only thing that I feel could be improved upon is the quality. This is not to say that they are of poor quality, because like I said, I’ve purchased them twice.

I work twelve our days in an industrial environment and these boots definitely allowed my feet to be not just protected, but remain comfortable throughout the day. I was surprised to find that they had many of the features that are usually only received in boots that are much higher in price.

The reason I stated that the quality could be improved upon is simply for the fact that I have had this last pair for almost a year, to the day, and the waterproof feature, that I thought was their best attribute, has run its course.

The part of the boot where the sole meets the side of the boot, right where the ball of my foot is, has failed and is allowing water to get in. Since it is deep in the boot it also prevents it from drying quickly.

Now, I understand that this is something that can be attributed to normal wear and tear, which is why I have said that the boot is overall the best bang for your buck. If you’re looking for a good boot that you won’t have to worry about breaking in for an extended amount of time, or a boot that is on the less expensive side while still providing the characteristics of a higher end boot, then this is a great boot to pull the trigger on.

Right out of the box, these boots were very comfortable, only took a couple days to completely break in. This was my first pair of Duluth boots, am very happy with them. I am in the construction business and need a very durable, comfortable boot as I wear them 60+ hours a week including wearing them at home.

I’m very hard on boots due to the work I do. I had been a die hard Timberland boot man for 25 years, had been happy with them (lasted a full year) until last 3 pairs. 3rd to last word out in 5 months, 2nd to last word out in 3 months, last pair so uncomfortable my feet hurt so bad I couldn’t wear them; not what I’d expect from a $100+ pair of boots.

So, I needed a new boot and decided to give these a try. I waited until I wore them out, 10 months, to write my review so it was a fair review. These boots are very comfortable and easy for me to wear 10+ hours a day.

I found the sole to grip any surface very well without any slippage. I’ve worn the boots in the rain, thru swamps and on wet grounds and never had my feet get wet; the leather got wet but not my feet.

As with other boots, I had to replace the laces, but these still have the original ones. The soles were well, although they did start separating at the front tip and side. The leather and insides of the boot are still in amazingly good condition.

I would have liked to see these boots last a full year, but considering how hard I am on boots and what I put them thru, I am very happy with them. I would most definitely recommend these boots to anyone, myself I already have another pair of Duluth boots waiting to get worn.

So, I’m a monster on boots, meaning they DO NOT LAST, the soles usually wear out within 3 months or so. I’ve been a Buiding Restoration contractor my whole adult life, 24 years. I live in southern Wisconsin.

I’m in a constant changing climate. From -30 to 105°. is about the usual low to high. I have been buying boots for all these years and the quality of boots from fleet farm has gone down the tubes. Great leather, garbage soles, Cat boots ok, Red wing good, to expensive.

,When your buying 2-3 a year. Bottom line is if they make a work boot, I’ve worn them and broken them. I work from roofing, concrete, brickwork, carpentry, etc. commercial construction, residential construction, industrial construction.

Historic Building Restoration is the name of the company. We do it all and crush boots. I just received my first pair of these. I am so very happy I tried these and started purchasing other clothing from this company.

The boots are so far exactly what I ask for. All I want is a pair of boots to last 1 year and I’ll buy another. I got these on a sale, I think around $90. Its the best $90 I’ve spent in a long time. I even ordered some extras bibs for my employees.

I will update this if I the durability does not hold up. On my end I’m very happy. I am actually lording another pair or 2 with the discount today. DULUTH, I’m very happy so far. Jeremy.

Had planned to order soft toe, but clicked on hard to by mistake – and I’m glad I did. I’ve had poor experiences with “steel toe” protection in the past, just not comfortable, pinched my toes, etc. None of that with this boot! Very comfortable and ‘easy to walk in’ comfort right out of the box.

Fit and sizing was spot on as well. Very glad Duluth offers a medium width, my narrow feet wobble about in wide boots and I don’t get the support I need. These boots are sturdy enough for work around the ranch, stylish enough for wearing them to work in the office.

The only gripe i have is that the insoles did not offer enough arch support, but in fairness i have high arches and need support insoles for almost all my shoes and boots. Highly recommended.

These are the best work boots I have ever purchased. They are lighter to wear even than my runners and very comfortable. I was having problems with my regular work boots with sore feet and even bruised big toe from pressing up against the steel cap, but all that has cleared up since I have been wearing these boots.

I am definitely going to purchase my work boots from here in the future. Fast delivery also to Australia.

This work boot is stiff hard and heavy. I thought by wearing them for a while it would make them loosen up but that didn’t happen. across the top of my foot became sore after two months of wearing them, that didn’t break this boot in.

For a tactical boot this is not good, not Worth the $43 for them. but you get what you pay for!!!.

Really comfy shoes, slides a little on the heal, I would recommend getting half a size smaller than your preferred shoe size.

Gives my feet dryer, and able to easily clean the outside of the boots with very little to no water entering the boot. Cleaning all the mud and small pebbles from the soles is difficult even after soaking in hot water for a while, but the boots do dry quicker than those I used in the Military and Fire Department.

I purchased a pair of these boots about 8 years ago when working in the USA on a whim while I was in a Red Wing store. While I don’t work in construction, I do wear these boots almost every day and apart from having to replace the insoles after about 6 years and the coating on the padded cuff peeling off about a year ago (but the cuff itself is fine) they haven’t given me any problems.

The soles are only now starting to show the smallest amount of wear, but I reckon they are good for at least another 5 or 6 years. They are so comfortable I wear them pretty much every day to the office and I actually prefer them to my ‘proper’ Red Wings.

Great all around boot. No longer out in the field, but have worn red wing for 25 years. These boots are great! I use them around my property all year round. Red Wing heritage for the office, Vasque for hiking/camping, and Irish Setter for working.

This looked like a great shoe that would last a while when I got them. but when I put them on they were definitely not wide! The box and the shoe said wide but they were narrow/standard fit. If you need a wide shoe, this one is not the one you want.

My feet hurt a few hours after just putting them on and walking to 30 seconds in my kitchen.

Best work shoe I ever purchased. Great support insert and combined with a steel toe and the toe overlay to slow down wear, I am golden. Looks like a high dollar tennis shoe to boot!

I’ve always loved my Georgia Boots when working in industrial jobs!!! I recently started working for Discount Tire and went through 2 pair of shoes quickly so I got on Georgia Boots website and saw this shoe and I’ve been very Happy with them will buy a new pair when these wear out!!.

My son has small wide feet. Needing specialty shoes like steel toe shoes does not help. He put these shoes on, and said they felt great! Much better than his other shoes. I hope they hold up well. We will be re-ordering them in the future.

I have owned these shoes for over a year and am going to buy a second pair. Not because I need a second pair, but because my work is paying for another pair. I could probably wear these for another 6 months or so.

They are peeling a little around the toe and but that is just cosmetic. These are the most comfortable pair of work shoes I’ve ever owned and they have lasted twice as long if not more. Though this is the first time they have required us to wear steel toed shoes.

I absolutely would recommend these to a friend.

I’m a size 6 and have narrow feet. It is difficult to find shoes my size, let alone steal toe shoes. These boots feel slightly big on the width. If you don’t have this problem maybe the width is just right.

Aside from that they are light weight boots and they are very easy to break in. I’m satisfied with the purchase.

I LOVE THESE (I purchased the gravity boot in cognac, size 10)!!! About 10 years ago, I was talking to my sister like “ugh, I need to get steel toes. Why don’t they make cute, comfy boots for me to wear?” and then about 5 years ago, she sends me a link for Xena.

My company wouldn’t pay for them but I did myself. And I was SO happy I did. I ordered my usual size (size 9) and it was too small. The exchange was incredibly easy (and fast). The new size (size 10) fit great! I am a manufacturing engineer and am on the production floor all day (10 -13 hrs).

I walk a LOT. These are so comfortable. I have received SO many compliments on them for their style and color (from my husband, fellow engineers/employees, etc) and even my podiatrist liked them and was floored when he found out they were steel toes (and yes I was wearing them 2 days after having toe surgery).

so you can imagine how comfortable they are. The slight heel dresses them up a bit but they are still casual enough to wear with tshirts. I just started a new job and will be purchasing yet another pair.

Love the look, the heel, and the vegan option. Overall I like them and looking forward to more vegan styles. The main drawbacks I experienced are mostly comfort related: 1. The top of the arches and the achilles were very painful spots during break in.

The upper portion folds directly into my metatarsals with each flex. It’s not painful anymore though. 2. The ball of the foot needs more cushion on a heeled shoe. 3. Getting them on and off is a struggle.

The zipper needs to be longer and/or angled more to open up more space to slide the foot in and out. Right now I just crush the heel cup every time and then spend a minute pulling it straight again. 4.

These are heeled, heavy, professional styled shoes, they are not orthopedic so after a long day of walking and standing your feet will not feel great. Not a problem, just a trade-off to keep in mind.

When I initially tried the shoe on the insole was very cushioned, bouncy, and added a spring to my step. However, when I wore them on a hike, it was another story. My foot shifted around a lot, not much motion control.

On descent my toes went straight to the top of the shoe. Consequently I laced the boots all way up to reduce foot shifting and it gave my foot more control, I but then the back of my heel started rubbing against the back of the shoe.

Also, the tighter you tie the laces it becomes uncomfortable on the leg. The shoe is definitely roomy, I appreciated that. However, by the end of the hike my heels and toes were sore, including my left knee.

This may not be the best shoe for people with flat feet. I wish the shoe had better arch support. I would recommend wearing super thick socks to prevent the foot from shifting inside of the boot.

My second job is at FedEx Ground and before, I purchased the Kuru Quest, my feet were crying. I purchased a pair of steel toe work boots and my baby toe was in excruciating pain. I took them back and got a refund.

The second pair made my last two toes on both feet go numb, those are going to Goodwill. I looked online for comfortable work boots since I’m still on concrete and in the back of sixteen wheelers, and came across Kuru Footwear.

I desperately needed some work boots that would give me comfort from the pain and tired feet. When I received my boots, OMG!!! They molded to my feet instantly. My arch and toes no longer where crying for relief.

At the end of the day, my feet feel GREAT!! The 175. 00 was worth every penny. I would definitely purchase another pair. Thank you so much. I’m one happy customer.
