20 Best Shoes For Roofing Shingles (2023 Updated)

I bought these last year, and they are holding up well. I wear them when it’s raining on campus and at work. The only downside would be that they keep my feet warm when it’s warm outside. I do not think they are any warmer than any other rubber boot though.

Overall, they are stylish and serve the purpose I bought them for. I would for sure recommend them.

These boots are made with quality materials and that’s the only reason that they are getting 3 stars. If you have a wide foot then do NOT buy these boots because they are extremely narrow!! If I wear them too long then my foot will actually fall asleep because of them being too narrow.

Also the top of the boot is too narrow as well and it rubs on your leg if you don’t wear taller socks!.

Thinking these boots would be good for my job as an Irrigator, where my feet are perpetually wet. Unfortunately I ordered the wrong size, so I needed to exchange for the proper fit. CS was amazing and I got the return sooner than I was told.

Always purchased redwing boots my whole life. When I could not order them online and the closet store is 50 miles away and they would not answer phone so I left message and they never called back I started looking for other brands then my son in law told me about Thorogood boots I checked them out and ordered a pair.

Best choice I made. You have gained another customer for life. They are the most comfortable boots, fit is perfect and construction seems very well. You gained a customer for life. And I will tell everyone.

These are good boots. They are exactly as advertised. Well constructed and once the short break in is through they are comfortable for a boot. My rating is based on the category of boot and price point.

For me 3 star means it’s good and exactly as advertised. Watch Rose Anvil on YouTube cut these in half for what’s inside. In my opinion the boot is built sturdily with a balance toward value. I wish thorogood would get rid of the Cotton Drill Vamp lining as it will wear out and I also would prefer a leather welt instead of synthetic.

But more leather means more cost. Replacing the welt with a leather welt would also allow for a less expensive resole/reconstruction. To my understanding the synthetic welts do not fair well when re used.

Overall I would purchase again and am pleased with the boot for the price/construction/and materials used.

I received the xcursion fusions as a replacement for the original xcursions (which i liked but the soles came unglued when they were only 8 months old. ) I wasn’t sure I was going to like the xcursion fusions after reading a few reviews, but living in the Pacific Northwest I like having a waterproof boot option for winter.

Ive been wearing them for a few months now, we’ve had a lot of rain. They are definitely waterproof, I’ve worn them outside all day long in the pouring rain and my feet have remained dry. One review complained that the xcursion fusions toe box wasn’t as wide as the original.

I went up a half size like recommended and they fit like my original pair. I measured the upper width of the toe box, and they are exactly the same width as my altras. My feet are wide across the ball of the foot so I get the men’s.

Xcursion fusions, though still lightweight and flexible are built much more like a hiking boot, than a hightop tennis shoe like the original xcursion was. They have great ankle protection which some people like, and is handy in certain conditions.

I live and work in the woods, in my experience no brand of trail runners hold up well doing homestead chores, certain chores require a bit more foot protection, and the fusions are filling that niche nicely, along with using them as winter hiking boots.

I hike a few trails regularly, where a section of the trail is chunky gravel for three or four miles, which sometimes leaves my feet feeling a bit sore in my other minimalist shoes. Tho one can feel the contour of the ground in the fusions, and the sole is still quite flexible, I’m finding the thicker treads prevent my feet from feeling sore after hiking on miles of gravel.

The tread offers especially great stability on loose down hill trail surfaces. Wet surfaces are so so. A common complaint about Altras, is how the upper material allows the foot to slip sideways on slanted trails (no matter how you tie them.

) The Xcursion Fusions I’m happy to say, don’t do that at all. I’m partial to truly minimalist barefoot shoes for hiking, but Im finding i do like the xcursion fusions boots, both for hiking, and working during the rainy season, and consider them a good compromise between a lightweight hiking boot, and a minimalist trail runner.

I bought these boots as a lighter and more breathable alternative to the Xcursion Fusion boots that I could wear for casual and blend into trail and range/training usage. These are comfortable boots out of the box and require very minimal break in and are quick to dry when wet.

The speed laces are a very nice touch although the lace themselves could care to be a bit longer. The chevron pattern sole offers ample grip in town and on the trail and the mid height ankle coverage prevents dirt and debris from getting into the boot.

The insole is just a simple flat foam insert. There are a few things I do have to dislike though. The sole of one boot was peeling on one side shortly after I got them, which I prompted to address with some shoe adhesives.

To this day the separated part is still there but they are still wearable. The next issue is the sole. While I appreciate the zero drop and the ability to feel the ground I think these could afford to be a couple millimeters thicker, and especially enlarge and deepen the chevron patterns.

Basically I think the sole could be redesigned to last longer in some way whether it is a change in thickness, sole texture pattern, or a material change or use two materials for the sole to increase the longevity especially at the forefoot area.

Maybe that’s asking too much. Overall great boots for all around usage. I’ve owned these for about 10 months wearing them most days of each week and they still have life in them, although in its current condition I would be a bit hesitant to be wearing them on trails with soft top soil and organic matter or loose fine sediments.

When new, the so wehst shallow chevron texture is not deep enough to provide a solid grip on soft surfaces but it’s ample and acceptable than something like the Xero Denver boots. Most of the time I had Qore insoles which helped with the padding and breathability considerably, as I do hike on harsh hard volcanic rocks as well.

I was so excited to get these, after wearing zero drops for years there are finally options in water proof hiking boots. As a land surveyor and regular outdoorsman in Alaska seeing all kinds of conditions and terrain, a good pair of water proof hiking boots are number one on my gear list.

So let’s just get the bummer part out of the way. These are NOT water proof boots, hence the 3 stars (they would be 4 stars if I did not have that expectation, see the “I wish paragraph just after this one”).

One day in an urban setting of pouring down rain and my feet were pretty wet by the afternoon, not soaking, but another couple of hours and they would have been. I did not go over the gusseted tongue at any point, but still got wet feet.

When you sacrifice breathability, as these are quite warm to hot when not in a wet environment, they better be truly water proof. Moving on to the “I wish” parts of the boot. It would be nice if these had a slightly higher ankle option, but they are still high enough to give that some ankle support.

If the laces could hold their position better that would also be nice, the speed hooks do help with this, but the lower eyelets just don’t stay as snug as I like. And now to the good. The hope and feel of wearing nothing stands true with these.

Several days of use and they are all you would hope and expect from a zero drop and wide toe box. The speed hooks lacing system is an absolute must, that not all zero drop hiking boots have for some mysterious reason.

The tread is great for getting around in all kinds of terrain. The toe cap is also a much needed addition in a hiking boot, great to see it here. Aesthetically, they are quite pleasing, which is something zero drops can often ignore.

I bought the three sizes that I thought I would be close to (after chatting with customer service) and tried all three on with the different socks that I typically wear, a thin/sport wool and a mid-thickness hiking wool.

I found that my typical size 10 was perfect in the thin/sport, but tight in my mid-thickness. Size 10. 5 was hardly noticeable being slightly large in my thin/sport and perfect with my mid-thickness.

Size 11 was just too big all around. From chatting with Customer Service and reading reviews I expected 10. 5 to be my size, but it was nice to confirm with actually trying them on and walking around the house.

I was surprised at the fit with these as they appear more narrow in the toe box than most zero drops I have worn, but they felt great for my feet from the get go (especially when I was comparing to a competitor side by side).

For reference my bare foot toe space needs are 13/32″ or 10. 5mm, foot length 10 11/16″ or 271. 5mm, and foot width 4 3/16″ or 106. 3mm. So would I recommend these to anyone that can be okay with having a hiking boot that is not water proof? Absolutely! They have great features to tackle many kinds of terrain and applications.

But as many avid outdoorspeople know, water proof is necessary when you have these on your feet for 10-20 hours and covering 5-20 miles or 8-32km in rough conditions for days and weeks on end. They are a nice start, but still have a ways to go.

I worked in construction all my life and have always bought Name Brand when I bought my first pair for the price, I wasn’t expecting much just to keep my feet dry when walking on wet grass, but after using them the first time I loved them easy to put on comfortable to wear and easy to take off.

After a few year i loved them so much that I bought a second pair cause I wanted to make sure I had a back up pair when they wore out. After over 10 years I have switched to my 2nd pair as the bottoms have become so smooth for the years of use that they are slippery.

There very light and real easy to put on for making short walks through he grass which for me is great, no reaching down t Pull the boots on and then fight to get hem off. I highly recommend them for use as a utility boot as they slip on and off real easy.

But not designed for lots of use on steel or concrete decks as they might wear out fast.

This is my second pair. First pair lasted about 10 years, used heavily, not just for fishing. They are so light , comfortable and easy to kick on and off used they year round, working on car, yard work, snow shoveling, wet weather walking etc.

The soles wore right through. They never should have lasted that long and I really abused them, got my first pair for $25 at a tackle store. Size 10 was hard to find I truly hope they see not being discontinued.

I bought these boots for work. I am a dishwasher and my shoes are constantly covered in water. They help my feet stay dry and are incredibly comfortable. They are also non-slip which makes them that much better because I needed to make sure they were non-slip for working in a restaurant.

Overall they feet my feet well and are doing what they are supposed to do. I love these boots!.

I took these out of the shipping box and wore them all day. Didn’t even think to look for an orthotic insert that would fit in them! Comfy. And I’m still recovering from foot surgery from 3 months ago.

Newly back in shoes, these have enough room in the toe.

The boot is extremely comfortable and well made. The lug soles really help when I slippery hills. I was hoping based on their 50 below zero rating it would work when I was sitting in my hunting stand.

Within a half an hour my feet were freezing.

They work almost too good. My feet sweat picking in the freezer, get the right socks. the boa system is too notch seriously I actually like putting my boots on last min now it almost hurts beating them up working but it is what it is.

Worth every cent though.

I work in a -20 refrigerator and my toes freeze. I had to protect the boots with some covers to withstand the cold.

First time I’ve ordered these boots from tsc. I generally order two pair of them every other year. I have a landscape company and depend on good, durable, and comfortable boots! These are by far the best boots I have found! I’ve been using them for about 5 years.

Price was 25% less than other sources I’ve used. Took a little longer to get than normal, but worth the wait. If you want a great/comfortable/waterproof/durable/good looking pair of work/hiking boots, these are what you want!!.

The boots are very comfortable when laced all the way; however, the laces get a bit short and can be challenging to tie. If the boots are not fully laced the heavily padded tongue pushes front and the loops for the laces can be felt on the ankle and is not comfortable.

There is no padding on the inside to provide cushion from the metal lace points so the tongue must be kept between or the boots are uncomfortable. When fully laced they are a good boot with very aggressive tread that provides great traction in mud and snow.

I bought these just before Christmas because I do a lot of winter walking and hiking and I was annoyed with pulling crampons on and off my sneakers. So I have been wearing them for about a month and a half.

I wasn’t used to how stiff a boot like this would be, so it took 5-6 shorter walks to make them feel more comfortable. They bruised my upper outer ankle and rubbed the skin around my lower leg. Also, when I wasn’t wearing them I placed weights around the inside of the ankle to break in the upper part of the boot.

Now they are more broken in and less uncomfortable in that way, however I find them really narrow across the front foot. Sometimes the knuckles where my toes attach to my feet feel jammed together – I am a size 7 1/2 – 8 and I bought an 8 so I should have probably gone up a size.

I do have a narrow foot so maybe even 2 sizes. My hope was that these would keep me from slipping on ice. They help – the hobnails/spikes give more traction than a regular winter boot but I am still slipping on hard ice.

If I take my full stride and push off my toe, I slip because the spikes don’t come up that high, so I have to do more of a Frankenstein’s monster stomp to avoid slipping on ice. Same goes for striding with a heel strike – no spike far back enough to catch the ice.

I feel badly saying this, but my 30 dollar crampons are much better on ice. These boots are nice and warm and absolutely water proof, I can blast through slushy or watery bits of trail no problem and my toes are always toasty.

They are heavier than I personally prefer and again, personal preference, they are so stiff I can’t articulate through my foot and use my foot muscles. I might go back to runners and crampons. Lastly – and this might just be me – I wish they were all black like the men’s version.

I don’t like how they’ve been “ladied up” with some blue and grey. Tried initially to buy men’s instead but the sizing didn’t work out for me.

The Women’s Snowmageddon boot fit my needs perfectly. I typically wear a 6. 5/7 (women’s US) in shoes and boots, and the size 7’s in these fit and feel great! They are sturdy, a great height, and seem very durable after a few weeks of wear.

The soft “fur” upper lining is a functional (and stylish!) touch and has garnered several compliments, but the real treat is the BOA system. No more trying to tie laces tighter with freezing cold fingers! I just crank the knob and I’m good to go.

I’ve worn these boots for hiking and snowshoeing and am impressed by the warmth – my feet were perfectly dry and toasty after a 3 hour snowshoe trek through deep snow. Additionally, the boots aren’t too “clunky” or heavy, and work great for less extreme conditions such as trips to the grocery store etc.

when parking lots are full of snow and slush. The SnowTrac lug is great and I look forward to using the IceTrac lug the next time I have super icy conditions in my area. All of this is coupled with excellent customer service I received via email when I had questions.

These boots have so many great features. I love the lacing system–no wet/slimy/frozen/dirty laces to deal with–just a nifty dial to tighten accordingly. They pop off so easily when you are done wearing them.

They are really warm and comfortable. They come with two sets of treads–one with metal spikes for ice, and one w/out. When I got them I thought it was overkill. That is until last weekend, when Chicago’s sidewalks became sheets of black ice after a freezing drizzle.

I took a few steps in the regular soles and almost wiped out. Then I put on the ice cleats and was amazed at what a difference they made. I could walk with complete confidence. They totally transformed my walk and my day.

My dog is thankful, because he would have been stuck inside. These boots saved my behind, literally!.

These fit super well, fit true to size and are the perfect width ( I don’t have wide feet). They don’t feel rigid like most brand new cycling shoes. I havent sized them on the cleats but I’m fairly certain these will be a great fit for my road bike.

The colours are fine, nothing outstanding. Only velcro straps to tighten show so not sure how well these will last.

I tried a variety of brands of biking shoes before choosing these. I have a narrow foot and these fit the best. As others have mentioned, they run a tad short. The 42’s were perfect (would usually wear a 41.

5). They are light and relatively comfortable to walk in.

Unfortunately I don’t have a video to share. I bought these shoes for my husband because he is a machinist. He needs a good steel toed shoe but in Kansas it gets so hot during the summer and these bulky 10 lb boots that they sell here are so uncomfortable after a few weeks even! They don’t breathe and they are like wearing a pair of ankle boots while you’re already on your feet for 12 hours a day.

Ever since I bought him these indestructible shoes after doing some research online it has everything he needs to work in a machine shop oh, they have the skid proof puncture-resistant steel-toed blah blah blah but also they breathe! His shoes actually breathe so during the summer he’s not going to sweat through the socks into the shoes and making them disgusting.

His feet stay relatively cool and he’s coming home at the end of the day saying his feet don’t hurt as much. They’re always going to hurt because he’s always on his feet but the shoes have made a definite Improvement.

My husband is coming home in a better mood! And shipping was also extremely fast I was expecting them to take weeks because of covid relief here less than a week after I was informed of shipping. I got on to check the update and discovered that they had been delivered!.

I have this Ares and two pairs of the J3 style shoes. I find I like the styling of the J3 pairs better. The soles of the shoe appear different when compared to J3 style but I can really tell if there is a difference in comfort.

The shoe is flexible and breathable. They are comfortable to walk in for extended periods of time and I feel secure that my toes are protected since the shoes is reinforced but so is the J3 style which I like the looks of better.

It makes it hard for me to find use for the Ares over the J3 style because they seem to have the same strengths in my opinion and experience as well as the same weakness. I need a pair of Indestructible shoes suitable for hiking as I don’t think the Ares or the J3 styles are it.

The fabric like materials will make them difficult to clean and they may get really unsightly if I take them on the nature trails. I still love the Ares since as I’ve mentioned, they have all what I like about the J3 style but without the looks.

I will have to find a specific use case for it, perhaps only use it for work or something.

I night these shoes on the 7th of Aug and got them on the 14th of Aug. I randomly found these shoes online when talking to an associate at work. At fist glance I really liked the look of these and thought that they probably wouldn’t be that good.

As the night went on I kept thinking about them. So for $80 bucks I said what the heck. Let’s try them. I work at Amazon and I walk 13-15 miles a night. I have two other pair of composite toe boots. The first pair give me blisters but are very comfy.

The second pair just hurt my feet to wear it hurts to stand after my shift. I wore my boots for the first time last night and they were incredible. I did put in a anti-fatigue insole in them. But my feet didn’t hurt when I got off work nor did they ache the next morning.

The shoe runs pretty big. I wear a 10. 5 and I felt like I could have gotten a 10, so maybe my next pair I’ll try a 10. The only thing I would change is the sock lining, I would make it tighter so you have more ankle support but if you use all the lace holes it makes it feel more support.

All in all. Highly recommend. 10/10.

Holy Bonanza! Where has this brand been all my life?! Well made, comfy straight out of the box, great looking! I sized down two sizes to covert to woman’s size 7 and it is a perfect fit. Looks and feels like a shoe twice the price.

After wearing them daily for about 4 months straight and them getting thoroughly soaked a coup of times the leather and the boots have held up well for the price. The soles have worn a little sooner than I was expecting.

Also l, I usually like the 8” boots and steel toe now is what I have for work and there’s will remain as backups. They may have been advertised as 8” tall but they are more like a standard 6” to me by the way.

Less than 2 years ago I bought a pair of Timberland Pros for twice this and they fell apart on me. Never again. This boots look and feel great.

First off, I now do not have the waterproof version. Evidently there are two versions, a waterproof one and a non waterproof one. I normally take a size 8. I originally ended up with the size 8 waterproof version but found this was much too tight and exchanged it for an 81/2 non waterproof version.

This second upgrade fit much better. I also changed the insole for softer one. After this adventure I can now say I am very happy with this shoe. I would have given this a 5 star but adjusted for my adventure in getting this right.

Its both stylish, durable and comfortable.

I’ve been wearing these every weekend for the last 3-4 months, working and hiking all around our property. I’ve climbed trees, drove tractor, stomped through manzanita and dead brush. On pavement, hardpack, gravel and soft loam, and wet live oaks, they provide good traction.

And they’d be comfortable on a long hike with a light pack. The laces stay tied without a double-knot. And my feet never get hot, or wet, even after several hours in the rain. These shoes have held up well, except the Vibram sole is just starting to separate from the very tip of the toe on the right shoe.

But it doesn’t appear to be worsening. I’ll but some Goop to glue it back on soon. Otherwise they’ve broken in, not broken down. I can’t give 5 stars because there are probably equally good shoes for less money.

And they’re ugly. Not as ugly as many shoes in this category, or genre, but still too ugly to wear out except for trips to the hardware store, or camping, says my wife and daughter. Overall, I love these shoes.

I will buy another pair, if Hanwag still makes them when this pair finally wear out, which I expect will take at least a year.

The Hanwag Gritstone II hiking shoes is one of the finest made, comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. Simply “top notch”. However, I’m not sure how versatile it is as a hiking shoe. They have a roomy toe box which works with my wide feet and adds to the comfort.

The heel has a “clunky” feel to it which causes some instability on steep terrain. As a walking or hiker on gentler slopes it works well. So for me the works very well for general hiking or everyday wear.

I do not use when conditions dictate an approach shoe.

This is an excellent shoe! The quality of workmanship is equal to any of the other top brands, and is evident both inside and out. It is a perfect balance of stiff enough for trail running, but not too stiff for every day wear.

It looks more narrow than other shoes I own of this type, but actually runs very true to size, buy whatever size you usually wear.

Boots were what I expected seemed nice well built but the insulation inside reduced the size to a point they wouldn’t fit me had to return which was handled professionally by Galls. I doubt they were in fact X wide with the insulation in them.

To me they were a 3 star because I think they were not sized correctly. Had they fit I believe they would been a 5. Really need larger boots sizes as there are a lot of big people with large feet not just length but width today.

Can’t build a large building on a small foundation.

Black Diamond boots are really great boots, they wear like iron even on the top of the toes. They are stiff compared to leather boot but no worse than any other premium rubber boot. Very comfortable, None of our firefighters have ever complained of spot rubbing.

Seem to fit to size even on our six women firefighters.

These are very good quality boots. Was able to get my size boot faster from Galls than anyone else. Was quoted 12 to 14 weeks from all other suppliers. Galls quoted 2 weeks and received them in 10 days.

This may not seem like a big deal to some but when you wear a size 16 it is. Truly beleive you want go wrong buying this brand or from Galls. They have definitely earned my business.

February 2022. Clash 4” shoe. After my last pair of lightweight duty footwear started cracking after only 5 weeks service, I decided to go searching for another brand. Over the decades Blauer became a trusted name for quality agency-supplied outerwear, but I had no idea that they also made footwear.

So far, I’m very pleased. I’m old school, so my duty footwear has to take a shine, and these do. It’s a bit early to speak of durability, but the slip resistance is definitely there – I’ve used them to scale a wall that I like to climb in my patrol area (my retirement date is set for the day I can no longer make it over) and the traction was very good, they’re solid on wet floors, and performed well on ice and snow.

The fit is perfect, and the break-in period was less that one shift. They are comfortable and also very quiet when compared to other duty footwear I’ve worn. The BOA system is amazing and looks bad***.

Next, I’m switching my duty waterproof boot to the Blauer Blitz 8”!.

I have the 10” insulated boots and the 6” clash boots. Fit wonderful right out of the box. Lacing system is different and takes some getting used to it. You might have to readjust them after having them on for awhile.

Easier to unlaced than zippers! Never liked zippers on boots! Pull the tab out and the tongue pulls open and step right out of the boot. No heel feels funny at first, but is easy to adjust to and feels better after a long shift.

4” shoes I have worn several days in the office and they feel looser than the boots. May just be the difference of height with shoes and boots and ankle support. Comfortable wearing for a ten hour shift.

Easy on easy off quicker than laces. Winning over an old jarhead to this new fangled technology!.
