20 Best Shoes For Overpronation Women (2023 Updated)

I have worn Asics GT 1000 and 2000 series shoes since 2006 when I started running marathons and after being evaluated and fitted at my local running store. I purchased two pairs of GT 1000/ 9 in early November 2021.

One pair from Amazon and another from Asics. com. I rotate them every other day and run between 36 and 40 miles a week. I’m not nieve enough to expect them to never wear out but despite wearing a full size larger than my regular shoe size, I get a hole in the toe.

this has become a problem for several years but does not usually happen for five or six months (2. 5 to 3 months in reality because I rotate them every other day). I noticed today that both of my not even 3-month-old shoes have already worn through the lining inside the shoe and it’s only a matter of days until the outer layer will have a hole as well.

I’m writing this review hoping that if enough of us speak up, Asics will reconsider using inferior products to make the shoes that we all love. As distance runners, we all know how difficult it can be to find the right fit! I have an old pair from years ago that I’ve kept around to paint in and they still don’t have holes.

Asics has the capability to produce a much better product. The fit and design are on point PLEASE bring back the quality!.

I bought these sneakers at the request of my therapist to help aid in stability & support after surgery. I had bone cancer & had a rod put in my bone to replace the affected bone which obviously had me walking with a limp until I’m able to strengthen my quad muscle.

Previously I was using my crocs & sketchers which both are horrible support for stability. After buying these sneakers as soon as I put them on I was in love. They offer stability & the support as well as comfort when I walk.

I wear a 6 1/2 & I have a wide foot. In a review I read that the sneakers fit true to size however when I purchased a 6 1/2 they were too small so I returned them, went up to a size 7 and they fit perfectly.

I definitely intend on purchasing another pair in a different color. I do wish that they had other options as far as material because I won’t be able to wear these in the winter time because the material is more of a breathable mesh.

So for the winter I’ll have to find something else because this is definitely a summer shoe.

As can be seen from the letter ‘D’ printed inside the tongue of these and on their shoe box, Asics markets and sells these as a Wide fit shoe. Individual stores have no say in this, they are required to refer to them in the same way Asics does.

I have ordered the womens GT-2000 9 in a range of colours and widths. I found that the black version is definitely wider fitting than the Average (B) width version, however it doesn’t feel as wide as the Thunder Blue / Storm Blue version that is also called Wide (D).

Therefore, if you normally need to buy a Wide in Asics go with the Thunder Blue colourway. The Black ones in actuality feel more like ‘C’ (sometimes called Comfort) width, part way between B and D width.

I normally buy average width in Asics but was able to wear these black ones, whereas normally D width is way too sloppy on me. The mesh used on the GT 2000 does give quite a bit which has benefits, particularly when compared to other Asics shoes that have fabric so firm that it restricts your toes from moving up and down in a natural way when you walk, however one thing to keep in mind is that you will need to keep your big toe nails trimmed short with these or you may increase the risk of tearing them.

Separately, if you need these for work these are a good definite black colour whereas the new version of the GT-2000 released this month, despite being called black, is more of a washed black / dark grey which some workplaces may not accept.

One of the great things about the GT-2000 generally is that while Asics classes it as a support shoe, it doesn’t have unnecessarily firm bits ramming up under your arch which is very painful if you have plantar fasciitis, for example.

If you are choosing to buy new shoes during lockdown I would suggest choosing a retailer than accepts returns, such as The Athlete’s Foot, and perhaps order these in both your normal shoe size and a half size up or otherwise in two colourways.

That way you can always try them on briefly at home and return whatever doesn’t suit you.

I wanted to give these shoes more stars because usually, I have been very happy with my Asics and besides the weak material on the toe area, they are very comfortable, and I liked the light weight feel and low profile.

Unfortunately, the mesh lining began tearing the first day I wore them and grew into multiple little holes over the toe portion. I use them for running and dog walks and also found that the inside of the shoes gets wet very easily because of the holey mesh lining as well.

Just walking through a small area of wet grass at the park makes my socks wet. The holey mesh area- I believe- is supposed to give good ventilation but it’s really not needed and the thin fabric tears easily.

If the lining was a different material on the toe area, I would give these 5 stars. They are quite comfy and I had no other issues. I made them my dog walking shoes and used them for an entire year, even with the little holes.

For decades now, I have been sticking with one shoe manufacturer and one shoe produced by that company: ASICS and the GT-2000 series shoe and its predecessors, respectively. The reason is simple-it works for me.

The shoe is simpler than most, without excessive padding, and it has maintained its toebox. It’s been predictable through the GT-2000 9 version. A comfortable toebox is a must for me because I started my running journey in the autumn of 1977.

The cumulative effects of many years of running are that I have quite a set of hammertoes and bunions the size of large marbles. Thus, I require a comfortable toebox. ASICS has delivered a reliable, predictable model of shoe and so I continue to buy it.

It’s taken me through my share of training miles and road races. It’s my shoe.

I suffer from knee pain and I did some research about the best rated shoes for knee pain. The Asics GT-1000 11 was listed as one of the best, so I purchased them. I am extremely satisfied and they do a lot to allieviate my knee problems.

They are also great for walking. Specifically, they have a cushioned heel and midsole, plus gel sole, an 8mm heel-toe drop which is perfect, breathable uppers, and roomy toe box, so no discomfort there.

I would definitely recommend them!.

Bought these about a month ago. I run, on average, 30 miles a week. I have been wearing ASICS for 10+ years, and the GT 1000s are always my favorite. I have tried other brands and always come back to these.

My step is neutral. My ankles roll slightly in. For these shoes, always buy a size bigger!! I wear a 6. 5-7 normally and always get these in a 7. 5. They are a tad narrow in the toe box. I love the color of these! Favorite running shoe in a great color!.

I have purchased many shoes in this series since the GT-1000 9. I have to say in previous series they only lasted 6-9 months before breaking down and that was with alternating 2 pairs. I’ve only had this pair a couple weeks, so only time will tell.

Cute colors that stand out against my boring color mandated scrubs. Runs true to asics width but seems a bit longer than my usual size 8, not a deal breaker though. Considering purchasing a regular color to alternate for work.

In short, I’m happier than a pig in fresh. um, mud. with my new New Balance 940v4 running shoes from Holabird Sports. I’m a big guy – I have big feet! I got onto the New Balance brand 3 decades ago when I was running 50~60 km/wk.

I’m now retired, but still wear New Balances for fit and comfort. As a brand, New Balance runs wide for their length, which is ideal for me. They’ve always been well-constructed, and – while very comfortable – wear like iron.

(I have a minimal club-foot, and tend to drag one heel. Over the years, New Balances have taken it. Cheap shoes. Eh, not so much. ) The 940v4 is at the top of the New Balance running line. It’s favorably reviewed elsewhere by big-footed pros.

After wearing my new ones for a couple weeks, I’m satisfied the reviews are merited. On a personal note, I’ve always found New Balance runners require minimal breaking-in – they fit comfortably out of the box.

My new 940v4s upheld that tradition nobly. Their heel support is excellent. It raises my heels just enough to shift my balance forward a bit, which improves my overall posture. (Less supportive shoes encourage my natural slouch.

8^) The sole’s tread pattern grips well, noticeably so. One little cavil about the shoes (sort of): The out-of-the-box laces. The supplied laces were flat cotton. The shoes’ lacing eyelets are round.

The supplied laces were also short (to my taste, any way). Flat laces bind in round eyelets, and so adjust less in use to the varying shapes and stresses along the top of the feet. Even round cotton laces are ‘stickier’ in lacing eyelets than synthetics, although most synthetic laces aren’t as limp or supple as cotton.

Even though I no longer run much, I still prefer tying my shoes with a runners’ sling or runner’s loop (also known as heel-lock lacing), which encourages the lacing to adopt to the runner’s top-foot contour while minimizing slippage of the runner’s heels.

The laces supplied in my new NB 940v4 runners left me with only about 4″ of end to tie off the sling or loop. OK, it’s a gnit. A pair of round-woven synthetic laces 6″ longer than those supplied resolved the (perhaps personal) issue for well less than $5.

Enough about the shoes. How do I love thee, Holabird Sports? I love that you had my brand! I love even more that you had them in my size. (Few places do! Makes store-front shoe shopping in east-central Iowa a high-risk, low-gain proposition!) Love you still more yet for having them at an aggressively low price.

Alas, I cannot love thee, Holabird Sports, for shipping my shoes – however promptly (and it was, which is worth some love in its own right) – via FedEx, who (at least in my area) can’t find it’s butt with either hand, let alone a residential address for parcel delivery! Even wishing that Brown had made it unnecessary, I can love Holabird’s support (Thanks, Louie!) after FedEx claimed the shipment had been delivered (to someone, somewhere, no doubt!).

I have been wearing NB shoes for 20+ years. I started with the 1220 and purchased every 1200 series they ever made. But, these days I had to switch to another model so I tried their “Fresh Foam” shoes.

Fresh Foam isn’t for me, even though I own a pair, because the foam lacks the cushioning of the 1200 series. If you are a heavier runner the 940V4 is the shoes to replace the 1260. It has plenty of cushioning, very wide toe box and runs slighter bigger than the Fresh Foam models.

I found the size of the 940V4 to be similar to the 1260 series. I have been forced to purchase my size, 11. 5 2E, from other vendors because RR Sports doesn’t keep it in stock. If you are looking for a motion control shoe with real cushioning, unlike the Fresh Foam, then this is your NB shoe.

I have had my Blue 940v4 sz 13, 2E for 10 months. I have put roughly 900 walking miles on them. The miles that were covered have been done on asphalt and concrete surfaces. The tread has been worn down in the toe due to the heavy use.

However, the shoe is still responsive and comfortable to wear. The toe box is spacious and the shoe overall has a perceived lightness and breathability that is hard to come by in the stability category.

I am large man with very flat feet, thank you for providing color options other that black or white in a niche category of shoes. This is my first pair of 940’s and look forward to purchasing my next pair.

Very comfortable, like wearing pillows. Great for walking and shoes are light weight. The wide wasn’t as wide as I would have liked, because I had to untie a couple eyeholes to help accommodate my feet.

I have a couple pairs of ASICS in my closet that I bought a few years ago and they are regular width and still fit me. Are the shoes now being made more narrow?.

I bought these towards the end of my 2nd trimester when I was getting a ton of back pain from walking. Now I wear them every day and I haven’t complained of back pain once! I have a dog and live in NYC so walk at least 10,000 steps a day, and these shoes have been a game changer.

Definitely recommend.

ASICS were always my go to for a running shoe, only I haven’t been so good about working out. I put these sneakers on and all I could think was WOW! I remember running 30 miles a week wearing asics and my feet never hurt, I did go up a half size.

Now all I have to do is start running again!.

As soon as I received the product I noticed how light and narrow the shoe was which would help me when I’m running in the morning and when I casually wear them to work. After putting them on with some socks I felt like i was walking on clouds, something soft yet still had structure to protect my feet.

I did have to adjust to the height of the shoe and the overall shape of it but I was able to adjust to the shoe in a few days without any problems. As for the fit of the shoe it was somewhat narrow which I made work but for someone who prefers more space a half size up would be great as well.

It’s important to note that having a snug and perfect fit is needed when running. The overall feel of the shoe was great. The construction of it was outstanding. For example, the materials used to create the shoe were all to keep performance in mind.

The breathable upper with a rubber bottom gives grip and breath ability for the feet. The design of the shoe is also good enough in order to wear casually to the gym, work, and all other sorts of trips.

I found myself wearing it to work, gym, running, and walking around and they have little to no wear on them. I have yet to notice any rips or tears. With that being said the shoe was most definitely comfortable enough to wear all day.

After running in the morning I would take the shoes to work as well. The best thing about the shoe was the style, durability, comfort, lightness, and performance that the shoe provides. I was able to wear a good looking shoe while keeping the performance on them.

The comfort was incredible and it made it versatile to wear. One thing that I may change would be how tall the bottom of the shoe is. If it were a little bit lower to the ground or was a little bit less narrow it would’ve been perfect.

For example, I found the heal to be a tad bit too tall but it wasn’t a problem. Overall, the shoe is durable and is another great product that nike has created.

I learned to love running in the Paradigm 4. 5. Before I tried Altra my feet would hurt because most shoe toe boxes were too cramped. I put 300+ miles on the 4. 5s and then replaced them with a pair of Paradigm 5s that I also put 300+ on.

Then came the Paradigm 6. Altra introduced some big changes which have led me to stock up on the Paradigm 5s until Altra releases a shoe with their original footshape. The Paradigm used to be an excellent support shoe with a wide toe box, supportive upper, and a fairly stiff sole.

The 6 is narrower, has a more breathable but less supportive upper, and has a much more flexible sole. The Paradigm 6 didn’t last 100 miles before the cushioning gave out in the left shoe while the right shoe developed a squeak.

I noticed an increase in left foot shock value (RunScribe) around 50 miles that slowly got worse until I stopped using them after 80 miles. I ran in my old 300+ mile Paradigm 5s and the asymmetry in shock went away.

I’ve tried to find the Paradigm 4. 5, as that version had the best upper, but unfortunately they are pretty much gone. I’ve purchased a few pairs of Paradigm 5s but not sure what I’ll do when I run through them.

I hope Altra hasn’t given up on the footshape fit that made Altras such amazing running shoes for people with wide forefeet. If you’re reading this Altra, please bring back a support shoe like the Paradigm 5 or earlier versions.

My mom had a stroke on 1/14/22 which affected her entire right side (leg, foot, hand, and slight speech). She began PT, OT & ST on 1/20/22. As her speech, hand movement and walking have begun returning, she has had a difficult time picking up her right foot and continues to drag it as she walks with her walker.

Today I took her to MOUNTAIN RUNNING COMPANY in Boone, NC. After discussing her needs the salesman (he is the owner I believe) pulled out 3 shoes for her to try. The first shoe was the ALTRA PARADIGM 6.

people you would have thought he placed a glass slipper on her foot. She walked across the store with little to no dragging and was done! The salesman was so kind to her and explained that this shoe has a “0 Drop”.

This means that the heel and toe are level, just like if you were walking around barefoot. Although she does not have a wide foot, her therapist suggested: 1) get her something comfortable to her foot, and 2) get a bigger toe box.

then all 3-ladies (each wearing a different brand) showed us their sneakers with a bigger toe box. With all this being said, her ALTRA PARADIGM 6 has a bigger toe box, 0-Drop, and is only 9-oz in weight.

I was so happy to see her improvement just by switching her shoes and very thankful for the young man that took his time with her, was very knowledgeable, and then put her into something that is literally life-changing (I mean that).

Can she run a marathon now. no, but she can pick her foot completely off the ground without dragging it, and that will aid in her quick recovery. SPECIAL NOTE: The salesman said these sneakers run 1-size smaller.

She wears a size 8 in all her shoes, but he put her in a US size 9 and they fit PERFECT!!!!.

I was critical of a few things in my first review that I would like to revisit now that I’m on my second pair. I ran in the Hoka Arahi 6s just to see what the scuttle butt was all about, so I will say this about the Paradigm 6: I now think Altra does a much better job than others with heel slippage.

The upper could be better but its fine, maybe better construction. The Arahi seemed stiffer in a good way, more supportive I guess. The Paradigm 6s breath just fine. The only negative I have for the Paradigm is the Innovarch.

It doesn’t work and at worst is abrasive. I’m switching back because I need my feet to splay, I love the zero drop, and the guiderail is brilliant. The Paradigm 6s relieve pain in my hips, arches, and plantar fascia.

2 things I think need to drastically change Change for Altra in general. I have run in Escalantes/Racers, Lone Peaks, Torins, and Riveras. The cushion. It’s no good. The stuff blows out after 100-150 miles.

The other is the color schemes. They are just awful. Always the same black, gray, blue with probably one good color choice. The trail shoes have an ok color choice, but the road shoes seem to be going for a much older audience.

Bought these to replace the exact same shoe after the last pair wore out, that’s how much I like them. They’re great for everyday use, and this particular shoe was actually recommended by a foot doctor as having a great design for those of use with problem feet.

The design of the toe curvature in the sole makes walking really light. Bought a size up in wide to accommodate an orthotic footbed and they’re extremely comfortable. My only complaint, if I had to pick one thing, would be that the structure in the heel deteriorated much earlier than the rest of the shoe did, leaving me to have to reposition by hand from time to time so it didn’t rub.

But that easily took over a year of almost daily use to manifest, so I’m still very happy.

Considering this is touted as an all weather trail running shoe, I really expected more traction. The grip on slush and light snow covered roads isn’t what I had hoped. A bit disappointing considering I generally love New Balance shoes.

On the upside, my feet stayed dry and warm. But I think I’ll stick to my Sauconys for winter weather and my trusty old 860s otherwise. This might be a good rain shoe (I’ll test it again in the spring) but I don’t recommend it for winter running in the city.

I purchased a pair of NB 880 Freshfoam shoes directly from the NB website (I already had two pairs and they were comfortable and sufficiently durable). The sole of the new pair delaminated after two weeks of easy (walking around town, not distance walking or running) use.

The black part of the sole fell off from the white part of the sole. An unusable pair of $125 shoes after two weeks? I could understand after months of normal wear or weeks of training. Quality is an issue.

I was introduced to HOKA shoes 2 days ago in Dick’s sporting Goods when I asked the assistant for good running shoes. I’d never heard of them before, and it helped that there was a customer there who also highly recommended HOKA shoes.

I tried them on and loved them, but the price put me off, so I went looking at other stores in the area, and ended up going back to Dick’s to buy them. Nothing compares to this shoe, and that was evident the first time I wore them on my daily 4 mile walk\run.

I usually walk more and run less, and the first time I wore them I was able to run more and walk less. My feet usually ache by the time I’m finished, and with my new HOKA’s I had no ache at all on my feet.

Completely comfortable, and they look amazing too. I got the light blue ones. These are top notch running shoes, and the price reflects it. I’m a firm believer that you get what you pay for, and I got me the best shoes ever! I’m a size 9, but opted for the 9.

5 W and they fit perfectly with socks. My feet feel very supported throughout, and they’re just snug enough so that my foot doesn’t move around inside of them which can lead to blisters. They go on with ease too.

They slipped right on easily without the use of a shoe tongue. I have a high arch, and these shoes are made for arch support. You can feel it as soon as your foot slides inside. They just feel so good on your feet.

As I started walking, it was a little weird because of how the shoe rolls with your stride, but I was used to it very quickly and it felt so good I started running with them!!! I was able to run for most of the 4 miles I do a day, and that hasn’t been the case for the other running shoes I paid a fortune for before I found HOKA.

I’m very impressed, and very happy I went back to Dick’s and bought these. Im hooked on HOKA for sure.

Let me start off by saying I *REALLY* wanted Hoka shoes to work for me! I ordered this shoe in a 6. 5 Wide and planned to use them for treadmill and road running. I have overpronation, which was the deciding factor for these shoes.

The toe-box is wonderful! Ample space for my wide toe splay and the upper is so comfortable and almost sock-like. The support and cushion is outstanding and I would have LOVED to keep these. Unfortunately, my entire foot is wide, and not just my toes.

The raised inner edge of the arch and heel foam (likely for added support) hits nearly two centimeters into my arch and heel. It’s like having a stick inside my shoe running down my arch. Anyway, I took them back to a brick and mortar store with a Hoka Hub and tried two other Hoka models while I was there.

Both of the other models had the same problem. I do not recommend this brand for wide feet, even with a wide size.

I’m comparing these to my Bondi 7s which I love and use for my daily exercise walks. The Bondis are massively cushioned, I only wish I had them available when I was working in my hospital, retired now.

I thought for more all around daily wear, less vigorous than a run or exercise walk, something with a little less height and cushion might be a good choice. That led me to a great local running shoe store, Feet First in Columbia Maryland.

They suggested the Arahi 5. I’ve now had the opportunity to try various Hoka shoes and although I have a medium width foot whether measuring with a tape measure or one of those Brannock devices in the shoe stores, the standard width versions have been too cramped for me.

So I’ve chosen wides both in the Bondi and now the Arahi and that has worked out extremely well. If you have a narrow, low volume foot the standard width should be fine but if you have a medium to wide foot I strongly recommend just starting with a 2EE.

The Arahi puts you a little closer to the ground but still has a wonderful amount of cushioning. I’m not a runner but for vigorous walking both the Arahi and Bondi are great choices, you’ll just bounce more in the Bondis.

For general all day wear while shopping, running errands, going to appointments, etc. I think the Arahis are a fantastic choice. I wouldn’t hesitate to use the Bondis for those purposes but I’d be doing more bouncing.

Regarding ordering from Hoka, I wasn’t familiar with them at all prior to a couple months ago but I did order a pair of Clifton 8s, standard width, too narrow for me. They arrived the very next day! I did send them back, Hoka makes this easy, and they refunded the purchase almost immediately.

Now that I have more experience with their sizing and different models I’ll likely order from them again, very soon possibly – I’m waiting for more feedback on the new Ora 2 recovery shoe, I’m looking for a comfortable lighter weight slip on with typical Hoka cushioning.

I suffer from plantar fasciitis and achilles tendonitis and a sore left heel, so I decided to give these shoes a try. I already have the Atom in black and love them, but needed a style like this one.

They are pure heaven! I don’t have any aches or pains when I wear them. None! They are also so much cuter than they appear online. I’m constantly getting compliments on them and I’ve had two people take a photo of them so they would remember the name to order a pair for themselves.

The first pair arrived with a manufacturing flaw, but customer service was excellent and sent out another pair.

1. The shoe is nice but it squeaks A LOT. I don’t know if it’s the kind of leather they use or what. So if you’re into sneaking up on people and scaring them, these aren’t the shoes for you. I definitely would not wear these if you work in a semi-quiet environment.

Everyone will know you’re headed their way. 2. I work on concrete floors in a warehouse environment all day. I do at least 20K+ steps a day. I don’t think the sole is fully rubber because anytime I touch anything metal, I get shocked.

These are the only shoes I have that do this. It makes me not want to wear them at all because of this. 3. The comfort is pretty good. They sent me additional shoe inserts (it was part of the deal I believe) and I replaced the other ones.

I haven’t work these at work yet, but the new inserts have more of an arch support. 4. They’re an alright shoe, but I guess I expected more out of them. If they weren’t already “broken in” and dirty, I would probably send them back based on the squeaking/shocking alone.

If you walk less than 10K steps a day and on carpet, I’m sure these shoes are for you.

I find the heel in this shoe not as comfortable as the Quantum. As the heel molded to my foot, the insert crinkled along the back wall in my left shoe. I’m not sure why this happend but if my socks are thin I can feel this and it’s bothersome.

If this didn’t occur, I’d rate these a 5 star. Other shoe makers of this style get very narrow at the toes and I’m glad these are more roomy comparatively. I also like the crisp combo of the black leather and white sole.

The flex in the sole as I walk is also nice- not stiff.

My last 3 shoes were New Balance Vongo 4’s, as I like to keep an extra pair of whatever works in the event a shoe changes or becomes unavailable in my size. I had been eagerly awaiting for the arrival of the 5’s but I noticed 2 key changes.

1, the sock-style upper was gone. I know many ppl did not like that feature, but I really liked it. So now I had more reason to consider alternatives since the 5’s had a traditional tongue upper. 2, the drop doubled from 4mm to 8mm which I found drastic to double the drop in the same shoe.

I ended up going with the Hoka Arahi as the drop was only 5mm and the price was also $20 less. Knowing RR has the 90 day fit guarantee, I figured I’d try our Hokas for the first time. I really like the fit and feel of the Hokas.

I have had injuries everywhere, so a large change in the drop was a concern. I’d consider the Vongos in the future, but for now, there’s no reason to spend more. The Hokas are a tad stiffer, but it could be a result of them being new.

But the key is avoiding pain which the Hokas have delivered.
