20 Best Shoes For Outdoor Pickleball (2023 Updated)

I wear this style sneaker for tennis 4x week. I’ve had 5 pairs in the last 5-6 years. Love the look & usually when worn in they’re very comfortable. I’m btw an 8 & 8. 5. Bought an 8 cause they stretch.

I played in USTA Sectionals this weekend & wore them for the first time on a hard court. In two hours of play I had a huge painful blister underneath a small bunion, a middle toe was sore on top from jamming into the shoe & I had to take them off.

Not sure if the materials used are cheaper or this pair was a bit off, but my left foot is hurt, not forever, but.

I’ve worn NB tennis shoes for many years. I have a wide foot and I love their wide options. I was playing in my latest pair of 806’s and noticed my feet were getting tired and my arches were hurting.

I went home and compared these to my last pair (1006’s) and the insoles in these are nowhere near the support of the old ones. These have less than 1/8″ of material and almost no support. When I called the customer service I was told I could go online and order a new pair of insoles, but they wouldn’t send me any.

Very disappointed that this will be my last pair of NB shoes.

Altra says their shoes will typically last between 300-600 miles, which is a wide range, but it is accurate in my experience. After looking at the use I kept track of, I think I got between 400-450 miles on these so far, but they don’t have much longer left in them.

As I get ready for some longer trips this summer, I will likely be purchasing another pair of these to use due to how much I like them, while opting for other shoes for my typical 20-40 mile/week hiking activity.

It may seem “extra”, but these fulfill a pretty niche but important part of my footwear quiver. I switched to the mids after a rough ankle injury that made me look for a little more support than I usually used, and these offer great support, while also being flexible.

I appreciate that. I think some people may have issues with these because they use the typical convention for sizing up when purchasing other boots. Doing this may cause issues with seams and stress on the parts of the boots that flex the most.

With my experience of ~8 pairs of Altras, in a few styles, I have had the best experience buying them in my “true” size, meaning regardless of the size listed on the shoe, they aren’t the equivalent of a half-size larger, which is what I typically do with other brands.

I typically need a “wide” option for most footwear, and I think a lot of people may think these are a “wide” shoe because of the toebox. While they do work pretty well for me, I think some of my past experiences with them wearing out in the same spot they tend to wear out (outer foot, about an inch below my pinky toe) is because despite the toe box being so open, they aren’t wide in other spots like some boots/shoes are.

Still, I have enjoyed Lone Peaks while they lasted, and haven’t been dissatisfied with how much mileage I got out of them. One other thing to note is the zero amount of drop between toe and heel. It might not seem like a big deal, but you probably will feel it after a long day if you haven’t worn them before.

It may be worth taking things a little slower at first. When I first started, they felt fine on flat ground, but uphills were a bit tougher on my calves. I definitely felt the burn after some initial long hikes that I didn’t have issues with while wearing shoes with a typical drop! After a little bit of time, you will probably acclimate and be just fine.

I simply suggest keeping that in mind the first few times you wear them. One issue I had with this particular model was the tread starting to wear down pretty quickly on the rocky trails I usually go on.

By the time the tread was nearly gone, I had just started to get some holes in the outer fabric near the outer edge of my foot where it bends. Even with this, it was a drastic improvement in durability from previous years.

I think a large part of that was that I went for the “ALL-WTHR” version this time, which likely gets more durability from the liner. For this kind of boot, I did find the ventilation to be solid. I was pleasantly surprised by it, as someone who has feet that typically run hot.

I refused to try these on for a long time, as they do look a bit. ungainly, with that wide toe box. After spending 8+ months damaging my feet and knees with other shoes and boots, I finally gave in, and I could kick myself (actually, I can’t.

I’m not that flexible). The second I tried them on they felt like I was walking on air. All the negative reviews I’d read on them (how weird the loose toe box felt, how the lack of stability caused more ankle turns, how it would take a lot of effort to relearn how to walk with the zero-drop heel) – none of them were true for me.

That’s why it’s important to find out what your particular feet need, rather than what folks favorite shoes are. For me, I have a decent-sized bunion on one foot, and also poorly-healed broken toes on that same foot, then both knees are inflamed from hiking in shoes that were too inflexible.

I am MUCH steadier in these, not experiencing the pounding sensations in my feet, and had zero issues transitioning. The big toe box? I am addicted to the feeling!! There’s definitely a certain method one needs to tie their laces – I was tempted to go too tight, and they pain on top of my foot literally felt like I’d broken it.

So, that’s part of the learning curve. As far as traction – I’ve hiked appx 30 miles so far in them, and they are excellent on rock that some other shoes are slippery on. I mean, really good. I also ended up having them on (not my intention, but you know how it goes on the trails) for a number of water crossings.

The current was quite strong and flowed over rock, rather than loose rocks and sand, so I thought there was no way they’d fare well. My feet never slipped once. However, on any muddy surfaces, loose soil and/or leaves, this is where I have to slow down to a snail’s pace, because they have no ability to navigate them.

That’s understandable when you look at the lower profile treads, and it’s something I’m willing to sacrifice for the comfort that brings. I can see myself becoming an Altra loyalist for sure. They earned 4 instead of 5 stars due to the traction, and the feel of the top of the shoe when the laces are tightened.

Things that are not great: – Waterproof membrane failed in the same spot at both feet on the 4th day of use. I’ve sent a warranty request and will see if a replacement pair has the same problem. – Not particularly breathable – even at temperatures around 15 C I get very clammy feet (also in dry conditions), noticeably more than in previous boots with waterproof membranes.

– Aggressive seam along the entire height of the heel gave me blisters until I covered it with an anti-friction patch. – I have to tighten the laces dramatically to get a stable fit where the boots are not loose.

Things I like: – Fantastically light and nimble – Very comfortable – No other boot including those sold as wide fit gives my feet the same space as these. Things that take getting used to: – Given that they’re so light and thin they offer reduced support on rocky terrain compared to traditional boots.

Initially that’s unfamiliar but in 7 days of hiking I never felt unsafe or unsteady. I feel that the freedom of movement you gain makes up for the reduced stiffness. – There’s a strange rubber “lip” that protrudes about 5mm at the back of the sole.

I don’t understand its purpose. It increases the footprint – and required step width – but after a while you adapt your motion to account for that. Overall I like the concept of these a lot and would like to give 4 stars, but certain details and especially the waterproofing are not at the level of quality that’s required.

I have run in several versions of the Ride (6, ISO2, 13, 14), and although I’m tempted to try something else, I always seem to find my way back to old faithful. I feel most comfortable in a wide, even though I’m told my foot is borderline wide, and the Rides generally do have wides that fit like wides.

I will say the 14 wide seems narrower than previous versions (the 13 was really wide, which I liked), but not so narrow that my foot feels cramped. It took just one day of wearing them around the house to break them in (I felt like the 13s took a bit longer).

I have a low to medium arch, and these are just comfy. I don’t have to think about them, which is the way a shoe should be. Not too soft, not too hard. Just right. I’m not running a ton right now, and I haven’t had them too long, so I can’t speak to durability yet.

But for now, this is my winner. Now just add better colors lol.

I have worn Saucony for over 20 years now; they just fit my feet well! I usually buy the some variety of the Cohesion–mainly because they tend to be one of the cheaper Saucony options. I went for these because they were on sale (still a bit more expensive than what I usually spend), and (terrible reason here) I loved the look and color! I will say, compared to the Cohesion, this pair is more flexible and “squishy”.

To be honest, I actually prefer a more rigid sole, but others (like my husband) love flexible and squishy. That said, they are REALLY cute. and, I mean, that definitely counts for something. or a lot.

Size 12. 5 normal width. My family wears Saucony for running. All of us. My previous pair of Saucony lasted several years and I put a lot of miles on it. Really happy. But this pair has a design problem and they just broke, few months after I bought them.

The sole is too narrow near the tip. This makes that my toe, thru the top fabric actually can touch the ground when running. Actually, that fabric at the top is broken because it touches the floor. Bad design.

Now I am hesitant to buy more Saucony online and I will have to check them first in a store.

Bought these to replace an ageing pair of Salming and defunct Salomon shoes. They are a good fit for me, I like a wider shoe with some wiggle room. I’m 84kg so not light on a shoe. Outer is fairly stiff but this makes them nice and robust in the rough stuff.

The sole is fairly stiff too and feels a little unforgiving at first but they are surprisingly comfortable as they retain their cushioning throughout the run. You wouldn’t describe them as plush but they have a nice ride, firm but feels very natural.

My first run was a 12k through undulating woodland and was a mixed bag of mud, stones and roots. Shoes coped really well, decent grip in the mud without being too grippy on hardpack, which can feel draggy if the lugs are too big.

Very supportive, feet stayed dry and comfortable. Recommended.

I do HIIT style workouts that alternate between cardio based hybrid classes to heavy strength based classes. I’d been experiencing tight calves for months and thought nothing of them being related to my shoes until I purchased these and have them a whirl! Well I’m both surprised and happy to share that my calves are no longer giving me the trouble they were! These shoes are comfortable, with the best support on the ankle, they come up at a good height and fit snug giving good support for all directions! Perfect for my kind of training especially when there’s some running thrown in ! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a CrossFit style trainer!.

These shoes are CUTE and let me tell you how I can NEVER find cute shoes for my Husband in a Size 15 Wide! His shoe selection has been SO limited since he hit his teenage years and I FINALLY found a store that not only Carry’s his shoe size but also – has clothes that fit him length wise! SO many normal department stores have a ‘Big and Tall’ section and that has never worked out for us.

It’s 99% for more larger people – which is fine, but we need some 42, 36’s around here! So thankful that I found this store! P. S. He LOVES his new shoes! We’ll be shopping here Often!.

I like that they fit and are comfortable. I wear a size 9 or 9. 5 so I got the right size. Mizuno is one of my favorite baseball brands. In the spring and summer time I could definitely run and warm up on a field with these or go to a local affordable batting cage given the times we live in.

I returned the product. The size did not fit my son and you did not have a wide range of sizes available. So I had to return. We did like the style though. Just wish you had his size

Great shoe! I referee rugby and this is all the grip I’ll ever need. Very comfortable, super supportive and light. Maybe a touch on the hot side but that is a very minor grip (I wear thick socks anyway).

Next time I might try the mid cut version for more ankle support on bad fields. Plus the navy perfectly matched my kit socks!.

I’ve always worn the Ravennas, but they have now been discontinued. Apparently, they’ve been replaced by the Launch GTS, which are stability shoes. Since I needed more of a neutral shoe, I decided on the Launch 8s instead.

I’ve ran in these now for a few weeks, and they’ve performed well, and are quite light compared to my Mizunos. As far as the fit goes, they’re a little rommier than the Ravennas, but nothing a bit of creative lacing couldn’t sort out.

Good price, too. And the colour combination of black and teal wasn’t bad. All in all, a good buy. I can see this will be a staple in my running shoe rotation.

As someone who, while in my pre-fatherhood days of logging 75+ mile weeks at paces typically between 6:00 and 6:30 per mile, is just getting back into running, the Clifton 7 was my default place to start after taking over a year off.

My last experience with the Clifton line was the 5 (I have worn every edition other than the 6), the improvements to the upper and weight reduction were a strong positive. Unlike many other reviews, I actually preferred the responsive foam reformulation in the 4 and onwards as opposed to the overly soft 2 and 3, as it was more durable and gave more bounce through the lifecycle of the shoe.

The 7 picked up right when I had left off but has a more open upper with a gussetted tongue, something sorely needed in every version sans the OG. My only concern with 75 miles in is the longevity as the sole is showing a decent amount of wear.

I have heard the 8 outsole was reconfigured to increase durability so I am looking forward to my next pair for comparison. However at this point the wear seems to be mostly cosmetic and has not effected the traction or midsole cushioning.

I use the Clifton 7 for my daily runs, longs (I alternate the 7 and the Mach 4 for long runs) and recovery runs. Other than speedwork, as there are much better options for that case use purpose IMO, the Clifton 7 remains what the Clifton has always been about, a supremely cushioned and comfortable ride for logging a ton of miles at an incredibly light weight and a variety of paces.

The questions over durability are the only reason I am not giving 5 stars, but RR Sports was, as they always are, wonderful to deal with!!.

I absolutely LOVE my Clifton 7s – best athletic shoe I’ve ever worn. I have problem feet/ankles/knees/hips due to rheumatoid arthritis and my 7s made walking for exercise SO much better. I loved them so much that I wore the soles down and the treads off, so I began looking for a replacement.

My local running store did not have the Clifton 8s in stock in my size, so I tried the Bondi, but they didn’t work for me. The store clerk suggested I order the Clifton 8s in my size directly from the Hoka website.

I was super excited to get my new shoes, but SO disappointed when I tried wearing them. The 8s are SO different from the 7s! THE GOOD: The only positive change is that the laces of the 8s are shorter (I always had to double or triple tie the laces of my 7s so as not to trip on them).

The outer sole still seems to offer good cushion. THE BAD: There’s something about the heel that feels stiff, thick and irritating, and just doesn’t fit comfortably for me like the old one. Also, the lining fabric is slick and sweaty/not breathable.

The worst changes, though, are in the toe box. The toe box is too narrow – and I do not have a wide foot. When I stepped forward, I could feel the edges of the insole irritating the edges of my feet where the insole and shoe meet at the sides of my feet.

Adding to this discomfort is the fact that the laces of the 8s start further toward the front end of the shoe than in the 7s, which caused the first lace to cut off my circulation at the base of my toes making the top of my foot tingle.

I tried loosening the laces, but then my foot was too loose in the shoe. I’ve sent them back for a replacement and am going to try the same shoe in a wide, just to see if it’s any better though the toe box, but I don’t have my hopes up too high.

I really hope the next version is improved!.

Read this if you’re a runner and don’t know if you need to size up! After a 10 year hiatus from distance running, I decided to pick up running again and needed new running shoes. Honestly, there are so many options out there I didn’t really know where to begin.

I just want to run a few miles a week so I didn’t want to spend a lot, but wanted something that offered good support because I’m not getting younger. I checked major sport sites and these shoes seem like they’re the most popular for a mid-price range.

As I’ve had zero experiences with Hoka before, I wasn’t familiar with their sizing. I read reviews on multiple sites and it was a mixed bag – some said they ran big, some said small, some said wide, and some said narrow.

I checked all the size charts and they weren’t particularly helpful, either. For reference, I am a solid US women 8 in most shoes – sneakers, heels, boots, sandals. Width wise, I am average – not narrow, not wide.

I’ve never gotten wide shoes in my life, but certain shoes like Converse do feel tight after walking for a while. For running shoes, I always sized 1/2 size up. I used to wear 8. 5 in Asics with thick running socks.

Anyway, I filtered down the reviews to those who mentioned running and it seemed like most runners suggest to get your regular size instead of sizing 1/2 size up as you would with most running shoes.

So I decided to get a size 8 in regular/medium width. With modern technology, I was able to pick up the shoes from a local sporting goods store 20 minutes after ordering. I tried them on in the car and knew I made the right decision – there was some wiggle room from my big toe and the width felt perfect.

Even if I wore thick running socks, it should still be a comfortable fit. Once I got home, I went for a 1 mile run and they felt fine on asphalt/concrete. Obviously, it’s too early to tell if they’re actually right for me, but I’ve had running shoes that immediately hurt, and these didn’t do that.

I am excited to see how these will hold up!.

I have tried many shoes to play tennis in. I play 5 days a week, sometimes twice a day, so I need to LOVE the shoes I wear on the court. These are hands-down, the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned!! I am about to purchase my 3rd consecutive pair.

I’m so glad I went with my gut and bought the X3. Note** I’m NOT an avid marathon runner or advanced runner. I’ve gotten into triathlons in the last year, and wanted a pair of shoes that would help with supporting my joints.

I am 6’0 with an athletic build and weight around 190-195 lbs, so I’m not the lightest runner. The reviews on YouTube for the Carbon X3 were mixed. because these people reviewing the shoes are experts, and their bodies are 100% different than mine.

I have “Flintstone feet” (my teacher said I could drive a car with these feet). The expert reviewers said the upper was too loose and there wasn’t enough support. However, the fit is PERFECT for me. They said the shoes are really stiff and not a lot of bend with the Carbon plate.

The X2’s were too flimsy for me and I LOVE that these aren’t so flexible. I’ve put maybe 10 miles on these and it is such a game changer for me. I also love the color patterns. I wish I had both colors lol.

Sure, I’m not a professional, but most runner are not, and everyone needs different opinions because shoes are very specific and one size does NOT fit all.

I dont understand why shoe companies feel the urge to completely change a shoe in a new generation. The new upper on the X3 is not comfortable for several reasons: 1. The new fabric upper is not a comfortable material.

Its probably more durable, but its a more coarse and rigid material, unlike the X2 which was very flexible. 2. The change in how this shoe laces removes (fewer lace points), which really stinks. I could not get a comfortable or even tension across the top of the shoe.

3. The tongue was replaced with a solid upper, which coupled with the new lace layout causes the area around the foot insert to be impossible to get comfortable. Its either cutting off circulation to your foot or too loose.

Returning my pair of X3 and searching for all the X2 pairs I can.

I have ran in several models of Hoka (Tracer, Clifton, Rincon, Mach, Carbon X and Speedgoat) and the Carbon X3 is the only model I would ever consider giving a negative review. Under the foot is outstanding, as usual, and the only reason this is not a 1-star review.

However, the sock-style upper is a complete miss. Without a tongue, the upper folds over on itself, creating pressure points on top of the foot. Also, with this upper, there is no way to adjust lacing to get a good heel lock.

These issues make the shoe fit like a pair of baggy jeans. Like another reviewer said, I’m buying up Carbon X2 models to (hopefully) get me to the X4 model with the hope that they move away from the sock-style upper.

Needed something lightweight and comfortable to replace my old broken down gym shoes. For the price these are perfect. I used them for flat surface jogs and in the gym and they feel nice and springy.

Also-I love the sleek design and color, really cute with almost everything I own. These aren’t going to be for someone looking for borderline orthopedic “every day” shoes of you need something incredibly cushioned or supportive although I do use them for walks, but I have narrow feet.

In fact, I prefer to “feel” the ground a bit more when jogging. They’re perfect for me and look/preform similar to shoes I’ve had at a higher price range. I’d buy them in multiple colors if available.

I had a pair of Nike ACG Moab’s when they dropped in. 1991. I remember them fondly. I remember them having a “sock like” feel to them because of the neopreen gatter, and the way the you just slide into it like a wet suit.

I wore them every where. Hiking, Mountain Biking, and even to work, some days. MANY, years later, I saw these on the website here and thought these gave me the same kind of vibe I had when I saw the Moab’s.

I had been looking for a nice trail shoe that was Gortex but always found most of them to be too warm, and heavy for the most part. This shoe nothing like that. It fits like a sock. Perfect around the mid foot, lets your toes splay in the front, but not overly roomy.

The material the upper is made of almost feels thin but, I wore these for two days in the rain here, and my feet stayed bone dry. The React foam here is soft and nimble, and with the amazing tread, you feel like you could scale, well, anything.

I have had these a whole two days, and I can tell you I will be wearing them more than I thought I was going to. I bought them as a wet weather hiker, but it will be hard to not grab these, when needed, on warmer days.

Love the color way this year! My usual running for exercise shoe size is 8. 5 – I’m planning to wear these for weatherproof cuteness, so it’s good, but if I really wanted these for running I would exchange for a 9 to give myself the extra toe space.

But omg so cute for winter.

I love the shoes, they are light have great traction, waterproof and reflective, everything I need EXCEPT, these are not made for WIDE feet!!! Typical Nike making shoes TOO narrow! They are super uncomfortable, still trying to break them in, run big in length but super narrow.

I have been a die hard fan of the Gel Tactic 2 — I have 3 pairs, and they have never hurt my feet, my joints and back have never hurt from playing, and most important of all: They allowed me to move fast and aggressive on court due to their lightness and fairly low to the ground feeling.

This new model however — seems to be more padded and offers more support, which is great and all, but the weight has bumped up, as well as the size and bulk of the build of this shoe. Your feet are a little higher up, and not able to take off so fast and cut directions so smooth.

I do hope the Gel Tactic 2 model as it is will still be considered to be made in production, because it offered more than enough cushioning/support, and allowed speed and agility to excel as well. I am not.

Very comfortable, stylish indoor court shoe that I am happy to recommend to most people looking for a neutral and stable feel. The only thing I would caution you about these shoes is that the front toe area of the shoe (where the cooling, mesh ventilation is located) is not as durable as the rest of the shoe and is prone to tearing if you are not careful avoid abrasions.

Otherwise, it is an excellent, good-looking modern court shoe that will match with most clothes you wear as it is neutral in palette.

I received the shoes today, 4 days after buying them, so the shipping was actually good. I got the blue ones and they looked so great, but then i put them on and realized they were very narrow. I don’t have that broad feet and even went half a size up.

I’m super sad that I have to return them now. I also am disappointed that they have how the shoe would fit (i. e. narrow, standard, broad) for the men’s shoes.
