20 Best Shoes For Myx Bike (2023 Updated)

First and foremost, you MUST size up 1 full size from whatever size Nike sneaker (or your usual size sneaker). I wear a 9. 5 in almost all shoes and Nike sneakers w/ the exception of some Nike gusseted tongue sneakers I wear a 10.

I have ordered 2 pairs of these both in size 10. 5 and they fit perfect. Definitely could not have fit in a 10 (some reviews say they only sized up 1/2 size). I have been cycling for years and I own many pairs of road bike cycling shoes.

I use these only for indoor cycling, one to teach class and another for my Peloton (note: does not come wirh cleats & need to purchase SPD cleats for spin/cycle and Delta for Peloton). These shoes are very comfortable and very breathable.

I like to wear them moreso then many of the high end cycling shoes I wear for riding outdoors because their so easy to put on, clip in, breathable, light weight and fun looking! I also had ankle & foot surgeries and these feel amazing and don’t bother me like some of my other road shoes.

Love them! Highly recommend. Also recommend a good cleat like Shimano as well of your using them heavily. Bought thr pink & neon yellow/green.

This is a long review but read it if you have questions about WHAT SIZE TO ORDER. These are great shoes. They look great and after 4 month of almost daily use they seem to be really holding up-even with my clumsiness at clipping into the pedal.

That said, my ONLY problem with them is that they absolutely RUN SMALL. I had read that in other reviews but I just chalked it up to some people just being unsure about their actual size or being more picky than I am.

Well, I was wrong…it is true. They run small. I usually wear a size 9. 5. Pretty unwaveringly. I can force a cute shoe to work for me if I just really like them and the only available size is a 10 but…9.

5 is pretty solid as my size. When these shoes arrived in a 9. 5 they were REALLY tight. …. not a little bit…A LOT. I exchanged them for a half size up -as other reviewers had advised. When the size 10 arrived they fit ok….

JUST OK. I kind of regret not getting a 10. 5. I didn’t feel like going through the return process again so I kept them. I had hoped they would somehow stretch a little. They do not stretch out. I have been steadily using these as my spin shoe – they haven’t given me blisters or anything but every time I put them on I regret not going up a full size.

They are just tight in the toes. Your foot can slide a little bit when cycling so I try as much as possible to be conscious to kind of press my foot back toward the heel because if I don’t my toes will get slightly numb after a while.

Again, not miserable and certainly usable but I was new to cycling when I got these and didn’t really know what to expect from this kind of shoe. Knowing what I know now I would have made the extra effort to exchange them a third time for the full size larger.

I hope this helps someone who is questioning sizing for this shoe. It is a great looking and functioning shoe but you REALLY need to feel the true size for your foot before you commit to them.

I made the mistake of sizing up and now I’m stuck waiting for my normal Nike size to arrive. I’m a size 9 in every other type of shoe, but a solid 9. 5 in anything Nike. I ordered a 10 in these based on reviews, but they give me at least 3/4″ of extra length.

I’m not sure if people reviewing these are inexperienced, don’t know what to look for in cycle shoes, or what. But in my experience, these shoes should fit pretty ideally in your normal Nike size. To help anyone who may be unsure on sizing, please note that you don’t need as much space in cycling shoes as you do in running/athletic shoes.

When cycling, any pressure applied to your feet should go towards moving the pedal, not towards moving your foot around inside the shoe. If your foot if shifting around in the shoe, you’re losing power – power that would otherwise be transferred to your pedal and overall output during your workout.

Cycling shoes should be snug. Your toes shouldn’t hit the end, but there should only be enough space to wiggle them (1/4″ or so of space is a good rule of thumb). So I guess all of that said, these shoes *do* run small compared to how your typical Nike size would feel in a running shoe.

But as these are for cycling and *should* be more snug, your standard Nike size should be just right. Now, I did try the 10’s out once just to make sure they were even worth re-ordering in my proper size.

They’re insanely comfortable – it felt like I wasn’t wearing anything at all (except for when I felt my feet slipping in them). They’re like butter. Super breathable, no pinchy points, and I imagine they’ll feel even better in my correct size.

Can’t comment on durability yet, but I’ll update my review after I’ve put some miles on them.

These are good shoes. They fit well, nice color, but the soles are made out of some kind of hard plastic that was so slick, even though it has tread, I almost slipped on my hardwood floor just trying them on in my own living room.

I would absolutely hesitate to get off the trail, commute around to a grocery store, and walk in the aisle. Because there simply is no traction on these soles.

Cycling shoe sizes are NOT standardized across all brands, so be thorough on researching customer comments. I wear an 8 in US women’s casual & dress shoes. But not in cycling shoes because all brands use a different standard, which is inconsistent.

But these Garneau women’s shoes in 40Eu = 8 in US casual shoes. The toe box is ample but well fitting. Previously I bought GIRO 40 Eu said to be equal to an 8. 5 US women. They felt fine until my toenails became in grown though they had barely grown.

Actually these were size 7. 5 US ! I was stuck with the shoes- live & learn. So according to previous buyers 40 Eu =8 US. Glad I bought the correct size & got this bargain! I do not use these as clipless , I use with flat pedal innovation with spikes.

I was concerned my shoes would grab the soikes well but they grab better than my GIRO flat bottomed cycling shoes. The color of the shoes is more purple than pink as it looks online but I like them! They are comfortable, quick to step in & tighten.

Glad I made a good choice of shies this time! Did a quick 37 mi first time on , no blusters, rubs or instability!!!.

Now that I’ve used these shoes a few weeks, here’s my experience. I am a frequent but casual rider. I am a M 9. 5, 43, and these shoes are true to size for me. They are comfortable and stiff, and the bottom sole rubber lugs protrude enough that the clears don’t click in the grocery store.

(among other rides, I went shopping for a couple items, twice. ).

The first time I wore these boots I was heading out for a long, back-country ride with the intent to help a crew do some trail work. It seems the material on the upper part of the boot where it goes around the ankles is some kind of synthetic that doesn’t hold up to abrasion.

Of course, abrasion is what happens when you step around in the woods and remove debris from the trail. So, one of the uppers is ripped, already. I’m disappointed after spending that kind of money. However, the comfort, fit and everything else about them is pretty darn good, so now I just have to hope that the tear doesn’t expand.

I was looking for an SPD option that could keep my feet warm on winter MTB rides. I’ve only had them on a couple of rides, but think they will fit the bill. They are stiff enough to give good power transfer, and have enough room to fit an additional sock layer to keep my feet warm.

I bought size 45 versus my normal 44,and this works for me. Some have spoken about the cleat hitting. I haven’t seen that, but am always on dirt.

I’ve been wearing the same pair of XM7s for years – super comfortable and tough. Almost given up on getting replacements but these XM9s are at least as comfortable and solve the issue of stones in the shoes.

Probably not year round shoes but then that’s what I thought about the XM7s and they are perfectly okay in summer. The XM9s look to be as tough as the XM7s but time will tell.

Was looking for a lighter more summery clipless shoe. Considered the AM5 but AM7 seemed the best compromise for features. I like the neprene cuff to keep the stones out and the laces keeper both of which the AM5 does not have.

Compared to my previous Shimano shoes these come up closer to normal shoe size. I went 1euro size up and with thin socks I think I could possibly have chosen usual shoe size.

bikeinn was quick on shipping my new shoes, super happy with them. on the shoes themselves, they look very well built except the lace holes. i’ve read elsewhere about people having ,problems with the shoes ripping when the laces are pulled tight as there is no grommets in the top 4 lace holes.

i purchased a 4mm eyelet tool and added grommets. no way they will rip though now. thanks bikeinn!.

got this for my wife because she does not like to use cleats, we ride Saturday and sunday every week and these held great for 2 years. if the current pair have not ripped with a pedal they will still be inuse and with very little wear.

i like the front cover on top of the toes to prevent with rocks or thorns which we have lots here in the desert.

All the trainers and cycle shoes I have bought in the past have painfully squeezed my little toe and none seemed to cater for anything but a slim foot. My foot is not over wide at 260cm by 10cm but all my previous shoes measured less than 9mm width which I found bizarre so I was very pleased to find the Lake MX238 with its wider fit even in regular size, Richard at Salt Dog was extremely helpful and answered my many queries happily.

The service was great and the shoes arrived within days of ordering. I ride a carbon road bike but I have always preferred mountain bike cleats for walk ability. First impression was that the shoe was extremely well made, soft and comfortable but also tough.

The carbon fibre sole is extremely stiff and delivers power to the pedals very well. The only drawback is that the heels lift when walking and I was disappointed that the heels were not mouldable for a more custom fit.

I chose size 42. 5 which uses the same sole as the 42 but with more material to accommodate the extra half size. I think now I might have been better taking the 42 but I had already walked in them across a long stretch of tarmac so couldn’t consider an exchange however with heel inserts from Amazon I am now much happier with the fit.

The shoes have ventilation holes in the soles which I have taped over for winter Verdict is a great shoe from Lake and great service from Salt Dog. Just don’t walk in them till you’re happy with the fit (lesson learned).

Bought these as a mountain bike shoe, as I have several pairs of Lake road shoes, including a couple pairs of CX238. This model in Lake’s lineup just fits my foot the best. Most cycling shoes, sizing differs from brand to brand, one company’s 44 can be another company’s 45.

Most of my shoes have been size 43, with these Lakes, I needed 43. 5. While these feel pretty much like the CX238, there is one slight difference I can see so far. The Clarino fake leather used for this shoe doesn’t feel as slipper-like comfy as the real leather used in the CX shoes.

It just feels a bit stiffer, less supple. Granted, these shoes are brand new, and after some miles on them, perhaps they’ll break in a bit. That extra stiffness might turn out to be beneficial. Also, the Clarino used for these may not shrink or toughen up after getting soaked like real leather can, making these more suitable for offroad use.

I have been searching for wider shoe for longer rides to accommodate my foot as it swells riding off road for 4-6 hrs. I remember the first time I crushed my plantar nerves in my forefoot during a 24hr solo race in Utah the late 90s thinking a scorpion had stung me, only to find the wear signs of my foot expanding in the shoe.

Luckily back then I had been given a Carnac shoe which I slapped on and finished the event with less foot pain. The Lakes are not as high volume (vertically) as those, and tighten up better so I don?t fell like I pedaling in Dutch clogs.

The heel is a little loose, but improved with supportive insole. Fitting my left foot is challenge in any foot wear I choose as it resembles a duck foot rather muscular greek Atlas foot. Maybe I should have taken up swimming? Cheers, from the 3 legged wolf.

I really love these shoes. I teach regular cycle and also cycle & strength/cycle bootcamp style classes, and these are the best cycle shoes that I could have gotten. They make it very easy to attach the cleats, very easy to slip on, the fit is adjustable and comfortable, the shoe is sturdy and well-made, and I have a much better ride and workout than I did compared to just wearing tennis shoes.

If you are looking for great cycle shoes and/or great cycle cleated shoes that can be worn for versatile cycle classes, then these are it. I really appreciate being able to get off the bike and walk around to grab water, get a sweat towel, and do strength workouts combined with cycle training with ease.

I also feel that I am getting a better workout on the bike. They allow for better foot placement and focus through my legs. I am just a happy customer. I look forward to trying the new outdoor cycle shoes in the future!.

Purchased a pair of these shoes for my wife for Christmas. She had previously read through reviews and decided that these spin shoes were what she wanted. On the website it suggests sizing a half size down from your regular shoe size (she wears a size 6 in practically everything and has a very normal, somewhat narrow foot) so we went with 5.

5 sizing. Upon receiving them she tried them on and they ended up being incredibly tight and uncomfortable at the point they would be unwearable. You would think it’s not the biggest deal to get the sizing wrong EXCEPT for the fact that they charge $75 USD for shipping and duties (at the time was about $95 CAD) which is non-refundable and they make you pay for return shipping (cost was about $27 CAD with Canada Post) bringing it to $122 CAD just to try on a pair of shoes that wouldn’t fit based on their websites recommendation.

My wife really likes the look of the shoe and wants to re-order in a size 6 but is extremely hesitant as if those don’t fit, being out another $120 CAD ($240 CAD total) to return them once more with nothing to show for it isn’t the most appetizing scenario.

It is what it is and it is clearly stated on the website, but just wanted my fellow international buyers to know the cost of the risk of them not fitting properly (even according to how they should fit on the website).

These are actually my first ever cycling shoes. I thought I was wrong to get my usual shoe size, 6. 5, because it was rather tight at first but it noticeably became much loose after my 3rd ride. Now I look forward to every spin class enjoying every clip on and clip off without having to walk awkwardly like my other spin classmates who use regular cycling shoes (LOL, sorry for them).

Using cycling shoes is so much different from using regular gym sneakers and just slipping it into the pedal’s toe cages, I can’t believe I was missing out so much during my workout. Thank you to TIEM for giving me this experience.

I plan to get another pair but probably the VIA style so I can try both shoes TIEM has to offer for cycling. Fun fact, I am all the way from the Philippines so these shoes are very rare in my place 😉 I just love how I’m different during spin class.

I wear an 11. 5US shoe, and bought the 47EU size (approx. 11. 8US). I have average width feet, and my index toes are longer than my big toes. When wearing low ankle, thin running socks, the fit feels really good.

The index toes do not feel crunched. I also purposely do not wear thick socks with this shoe, as my feet become slightly fatter when riding vigorously. I have never had shoes with a BOA closure, but learning how to use it was quick and easy (gently pull out to unlock, push in and turn clockwise to tighten).

I also purposely bought this shoe as the tread pattern is designed to work with the Shimano M series SPD (I got the M9100 model). For noobs, another important secret to feeling good in these shoes is after you “clip-in” to your SPD, pull the pedal back for a few cycles.

The action of clipping in can jam your toes towards the front of the shoe, and initiallly pedaling by pulling back for a few cycles will take the pressure off. I love, love, love the full pull and push cycle in these shoes.

Allows me to ride in higher gears, especially up hills. I am usually on a 58lb Yuba Supermarché cargo bike with 40lbs of groceries or my 15lb dog in the box. For hills, I need all the help I can get.

I have been riding this shoe for about 3 months now, and it performs really well. I use it both on MTB and gravel rides. It has good stiffness and it feels like I am getting good power transfer to the pedal.

The tread is aggressive enough on muddy trails, but the compound also sticks if you walk onto a tile floor at a bakery stop. The break-in period was relatively pain-free, however, I forced crumpled paper into the shoe to stretch it a bit after the first ride.

I have slightly wider foot in the toe-box area, and had to take a few shorter rides early on. On my first ride over 60 km, I got hot foot toward the end, but not entirely surprising (your results may vary).

The shoe cleans up pretty well. I don’t baby any of my gear, so it has a few scuffs and bruises, but about what you would expect. I hate writing reviews, but my wife asked me last night how I liked them and I said “I really like them.

I’ve worn Shimano bike shoes for years because they fit narrow feet but these didn’t work at all. To attempt a snug fit, I had to crank the BOA down but that created too much pressure on top of upper foot without adequately snugging my mid foot.

The shoe opening is pretty high so the front/opening/tongue seems to press against front of ankle so potential for hotspot and/or abrasion – No substantial front lugs on outsole so could be an issue if you have steep hike-a-bikes – Michelin outsole not as grippy as Vibram found on other higher-end shoes – The velcro strap on forefoot is worthless A single BOA closure for the whole front foot doesn’t work for me so I returned these and upgraded to the SH-XC7 with a double BOA.

Note: Shimano sizing is strange – I’m a 9. 5 but wear a 44 in their shoes.

I had an older model of the X-ALP Summit shoes which I liked quite a bit. Unfortunately I damaged the ratchet closing system in a fall and decided it was time to try out some Lake brand shoes my bike shop kept telling me about.

While I did like the Lake’s- they were comfortable and breathed well- they started producing a squeaking noise that I wasn’t ever able to get rid of, not even after changing pedals nor cleats. That noise followed me between bikes, so I know it was the shoes themselves.

Lake ended up ghosting me when trying to deal with them for a warranty issue, so I decided they could bugger off and ended up purchasing these updated version of the X-ALP Summit shoes. These new shoes with the BOA closure system fixed my only complaint about the old Summit’s.

The ratchet closing system was ok, but this BOA is just that much better. I really love the Smoke Grey color, something different than the usual black or white shoes- but still neutral enough to go with everything.

I sized up one size from my previous Summit’s because after having ridden the Lake’s a while, I realized my old ones were a little snug in the toe box. Sizing up fixed that, while still being a comfortable length without being too long.

These are now just as comfortable as the 2x pricier Lake’s. without the squeak :). Also the Lake’s were quite a bit stiffer– and I know some people like that, but I never did get used to it. Walking off the bike is so much more comfortable with these.

Fit true to size. Typically 9-1/2 street and athletic shoe. Pearl size 43 fits well. Nicely ventilated but have not been riding in warm temps. Boa closure so much easier than old lace ups. Really like this feature.

Can be slightly difficult to fully tighten center fully without over tightening top. My work around is to pull the boa wire tight with a nail or finger tip in the mid foot above the arch which create slack that the boa dial then cinches tight.

Easy to snap the Boa open to remove the shoes. Vibram soles provide great walkability, are non-slip yet sufficiently rigid for sprinting. I uses this shoe on both a road race bike and trainer with SPD clipless pedals.

Cleats are full recessed. No clicking or scratching the floor. Grey color a bit boring. Recommended.

Why would Pearl construct the shoe tongue using a stiff vinyl/plastic material? Especially when the tongue is high enough to dig into my bare ankle (I usually ride in low socks). After a long ride on a hot day I came back with a small blister/cut on the front of my ankle.

If you wear high socks this might not be an issue, but for me it was the last straw. Sending them back. A small blister may not seem like much until you have the shoe tongue digging into it 70 times a second for 2 hours.

Too bad, I loved, and wore out my last set of Pearl bike shoes. I really liked the BOA lacing system. The shoes are easy to slip on and crank tight, plus if need be I could adjust them on the fly while riding.

Sizing was fine for me. I usually run between a size 9. 5 and 10, and the size 44 I ordered fit well.

I am pleased with these shoes. Fit-wise, they’re so comfortable, I don’t ever think about them. Cycling-wise, they’re my first bike shoes, so I can only compare them to riding in regular athletic shoes.

Also, I use them on flat pedals. Basically, they feel more efficient. With the stiff soles, I push more from my heels instead of just my toes/ balls of my feet, so my pedaling is stronger. I also feel my glutes and hamstrings working more instead of just my quads.

These shoes are lightweight, easy on and off with velcro, and I’m glad I bought them. Hope this helps.

I am new to cycling and wanted to get a pair of cycling shoes. I took the advice of the other cycle class participants and went to try on shoes as the sizing can vary. So glad I did! My foot is size 7.

5 and typically wear an 8 (EU38) especially for athletic shoes. Since these shoes are worn on a bike, you don’t need wiggle room. For these shoes I wear an 8. 5 (EU 39). I love that this shoe can be worn for both indoor and mountain bike for when and if I choose to take my cycling outdoors.

While I can walk around after spin class, I would not see myself wearing this shoe to and from class, so I would expect a great longevity with this shoe.

I am pleased with this purchase. The weather has not cooperated so I’ve only been out once since I purchased them. The fit is comfortable and the velcro straps are great to adjust the fit. The toe got scuffed pretty easily, otherwise it would be 5 stars.

Worth the reasonable price.

With the sale price plus the shoe sale bonus it was too good a deal (around £25 off) to let go! The fit of the Savix 2 is perfect and moving from 2 to 3 bolt cleats I have the option of going back to 2 bolt if my knees (issues from motorbike crash) dont like them.

The BOA system is very easy to use and quicker than laces, also the style and colour of the shoe lends better to BOA. The inner sole do NOT have a selection of arch supports despite the leaflet/instructions that come with shoes stating they do.

An email to Giro and an online chat with Sigma cleared this up. However the standard inner sole is ok for me. The only negative I can find is the heel support is not replaceable unlike some other shoes in this price bracket.

All in all a very good, comfortable shoe, easy and fast to use with a firm foot bed. I can feel the difference in power transfer when pedalling compared to more flexible mtb shoes.

I am not too sure about these. I moved from shimano RC5 to these as I was looking for something which will be more roomy in the toes area which these are. However I feel like my feet is whole a bit to loose in these even though the size is good and cannot be smaller.

It seems that they just don’t wrap around feet so nicely. Hard to say. Also just after 2nd ride the leather on the front has scratched. I assume when I hit the pedals when trying to clip in. I will be riding in them until they wear off although next time I think I will be looking for a different shoe.

They serve the purpose that I got them for, which is indoor spinning along with an spd cleat. They are light, quite breathable, and comfortable. I usually buy standard width shoes though my foot is on the wider end of standard, but I need wide (high volume) cycling shoes.

These are the perfect width for me. Length was standard. They do not have the sole stiffness, comfort, or material durability of my Lake carbon and leather Road cycling outdoor shoes, but those were almost 3x the price, so I expected that going into this purchase.

Dual Directional Boas are the best cycle shoe closure out there end of. Other brands do worse versions- please don’t, it makes them worse! Sizings, Lake are famous for lots of shoe sizes yet inexplicably go from 48 to 50 missing one out entirely.

These one size bigger in feel than the cheaper Lake models. On to the shoe. The softest leather out there is an upside as they will easily conform to different shapes and sizes. Downside of this is that the leather is stretchy, a bit sloppy on the instep, and you can feel them stretch when you pull or sprint.

Heel retention useless. I’ve used/tried/owned pretty much every brand, these are totally the worst, the shape is just wrong, it doesn’t go round the heel enough, doesn’t have that pop when you out them on or take them off.

So heel lift is there all the time. Super comfy over the top of the foot, no sharp edges to dig in. Sole units are pretty stiff, not as much as a full on race shoe, say S Works, but not bad. Grip is brilliant on mud or wet rocks.

Sole is torsionally stiff too. Long hot rides lovely, you can easily reach down and undo them on descents to cool your feet. Conclusion. Very very comfortable shoes, especially for problem feet, best closures out there, let down by useless and avoidable heel retention.

All that said, I’ve got all three versions including the road ones because they are the only ones that fit me.

Fed up of narrow restrictive bike shoes? These are a great option for shoes that fit well and are comfortable. No more numb feet or pins and needles. Bike shoes are notoriously narrow and im very happy with these.

This was my first time ordering from Sigma and i went on the Lake size guide and they came up small for both my wife and I. But Sigmas free return process meant within a few days we had the right size delivered.

The fit is great and the Boa lace means its easy to get the right fit. I also have a Bont wide fit shoe and these are more comfortable for long rides. I use them on both Tri bike and Mtb as i use the same pedals.

Sigma order process is slick and free returns was brilliant.

For the record, I am currently writing this review with Freeriders on my L foot, and these Shimanos on my R foot. I’ve ridden multiple times with both now, and think I have enough to give an honest review.

Sizing: I wear a size US12 and have these in a EU47 (US11. 8 is what it says on the tongue label). I have zero issues with this size fwiw. Overall Score: 9. 5/10 Pros: Awesome looks, stiff soles, option for cleats, elastic “lace-tucker thing” on tongue, easy to clean material, very durable, well-made laces, very comfortable on hikeabikes, grippy rubber soles for flat pedals Cons: With the durability and stiffness, comes added weight.

They are slightly more heavier than my Freeriders. Also, my feet are a bit on the wide side, and these are *slightly* more narrow than my Freeriders. Still very comfortable, but I wish they were a bit wider in the arch-bed.

Compare these side by side with other mtn bike shoes, and these are noticeably wider (which is good for me). Only removing 0. 5 points for the weight and width, but still I like these better than my Freeriders.

Fit is good, as long as you get the right size for you. They seem to be a little smaller size-wise. I normally wear 10. 5 US (Asics, Merrell, etc. ) which per Shimano translates to size 45 European. However, these shoes were about half-size smaller than what I needed.

So, to be comfortable I had to get the size 46 which is a tiny bit larger, but definitely better than smaller. The width was fine in both sizes. Otherwise, they are comfortable, seem easy to clean and look casual without being pretensions.

Walking is ok as the sole is supposed to be stiffer than normal shoes and cleats don’t help either (especially on a rocky trail). Overall, they a good for the purpose.

I have a wide foot and these are the only flat pedal MTB shoe that is actually shaped like a ?real?human foot. The toe box on these is wider than basically any other MTB flat pedal shoe on the market, believe me I tried them all on.

Even Specialized highly praised 2FO roost. I wear a size 10 US in Chuck Taylors and got these in a size 45EU which is around a size 11 US. If you have a normal foot the sizing is probably dead on for you.

These aren?t the stiffest shoe, but they aren?t soft by any means. The soles on mine are finally falling apart after two years of riding. The grip is great though no problems there. The shoes work great with my Kona Wah pedals and my Shimano XT wide pedals.

They are definitely worth the coin I just wish there was more shoe options for wide footed riders.

Excellent quality materials. The sizing chart is an absolute must and it works very well if you follow instructions. Having been disappointed after buying other wide fitting shoes – which claimed to be heat moulding – Cinderella, or in this case Cinders (pronoun – he/him) was pleasantly suprised that the shoe did in fact fit! Notwithstanding jealousy from the ugly sisters – other club cyclists looking on in admiration – I now wear these dazzling black beauties without constricted numb feet, and constant irritation.

Especially after burning half the amazon rainforest attempting to heat mould my last pair of daps. The only negative would be that the toes box is pretty large. I don’t know if this really effects performance; it does allow you to wiggle your little piggies freely though.

A novelty that cannot be recognised in the sardine-packed Bonts (Wide).

I wanted to give it a while and try out the shoes before leaving my review. I tried on lots of different shoes at different shops and its interesting how they are all different in size and fit for my size.

!! I found Salt Dog online after looking for some Lake shoes. So after reading some of the reviews I decided to give Richard a call. All I can say it was well worth it after speaking to him and understanding the best way to measure your feet for these.

I was just going to order the size it thought from using my measuring method but I would of been order the wrong type of lake shoes. Richard was so helpful and informative in helping me decide what to buy so thanks again Richard for all your help.

With regards to these shoes they are fantastic in quality and fitment. I have been wearing these on quite a few ride outs now and all i can say is that you hardly notice that you have them on as the fit is so great.

These were recommended as a possible solution to metatarsal foot pain [hot foot] which I had developed over recent years despite decades of pain free riding previously. And they have completely solved the problem.

I’ve tested now over several hours’ riding in mountainous terrain. Richard at Salt Dog helped with my choice, based on his method of measurement [see website] and follow up phone discussion. I would have chosen incorrectly without his input.

These shoes are so comfortable. The two Boa system enables fine adjustment on the fly as your feet expand during the ride. They will require more care than competitors because they are leather, but the upside is better breathability.

Recommended ++, and from Salt Dog for the advice, especially if you’re needing to purchase remotely.

Fantastic shoe, just needs Lots of trial and error to dial in the fit Not as good as the previous model 901 IMO which i purchased here and tried this model out through Mantel. My 2nd phalange joint, 2 toe, rubs on the stiffer material, where a front Velcro strap would be but the shape now gives more support so your toes aren’t flapping upwards.

Not a problem i have with SIdi, Fizik or spezialized but a result of the flat Dynalast. An already snug fit in the mid sole width of 901 is now tighter, and the heel is super grippy but i think that would be a gewöhnheits thing.

Mantel’s guide is a good start for fitting size. they tend to give about 3or 4 mm extra as what you need so the shimano tend to be a a half size shorter than specialized, or FZIK so a 47 in spezialized would be 47.

5 in S-Phyre. I take SIdi 48 (2010 model)and these S-phyres have more room in size 48 in toe box. i can fit a 47 in Specialized or R1 FIzik (JUST) Dynalast: Jeez are they flat!!! what that means however is a better peddling action getting over top dead center.

however the bigtoe does tend to work more, and be prepared for a lot of trial and error with the Insole, which with the 2 height inserts are significantly better than FIZIK or Spezialized. I ended up adding a little to the toe are of the Insole to give a little bit more curve, punched holes for breathing, and fashioned a proper metatarsal button, and used specialized Vagus wedges ( Orange) to increase the supination.

As I said they are the flattest but the power transer is really very good. be also prepared for calf pains ( went away) and hotspots till you get a decent button fitted. They are a bit ‘Road Buzzy’ but moving the cleats back and forth did help and sanding the Insole underneath my right Big toe (like with Solestar)reduced the Buzz a tad more that i was feeling there.

Great shoe, but give time for dialing in, hense 4 stars. Hope that helps you in your decision making!.

I was never fortunate enough to experience the previous model of the S-Phyre’s so I can’t comment on the differences between the two. However, having spent time and money on a couple of other cheaper models, inc.

the Shimano RC5’s whilst trying to find a decent pair of shoes, I have no qualms about stating that you get what you pay for here. Before purchasing these, I used and still do use, a pair of Giro Empire lace ups, which are very comfortable.

But, I wanted something to use on the road and regularly on the turbo, and not have to spend time doing up and undoing the laces, plus have something that I can tweak whilst on the bike should the pressure build up or the shoe feel loose.

I guess I have ‘normal width’ feet as these feel ok to me, e. g. my feet don’t feel squashed at the sides (for info, my feet are approx. 10cm edge to edge at their widest and 27. 5 – 28cm length). I’m normally a size 9 (eu43) in a trainer or normal shoe, and ordered a size eu44 for this road shoe.

It fits just fine, with enough wriggle room. The fact that it has two BOA dials that can be tightened or loosened without having to start from scratch, allows for that fine tuning once you’ve been riding for 20 mins or so and your feet begin to react with the heat/cold/pressure etc.

Unlike the RC5, they’re easy to get on and off. They come with an additional arch support for those with a deeper arch, and also a bag to keep them as they should be. I didn’t get on with the RC5’s. As a few others stated in reviews, the single top BOA dial didn’t allow for that tuning, and I got pressure points across the top of my foot.

The S-Phyre’s also have the option for replaceable heels, the RC5’s were moulded as one. Would I normally spend £300+ on a pair of road shoes? No. Did I feel like I needed to, to get what I wanted? Yes.

Do I have any complaints about doing so with these? Nope. Would recommend.

I’ve wider than average feet and these fit really well – I ordered a couple of pairs from Sigma to try get the right size. I found they matched up pretty perfect with my normal size but I am just between UK sizes which makes buying cycle shoes online a nightmare but chats with Sigma online guides me away from Some shoes and recommended others.

These shoes are amazing – dual BOAS make adjustments easy although I found initially I’d tighten the front one too much at times causing a bit of pins and needles as my feet warmed up! But the reverse adjustment without undoing the boas makes this easy.

Temperature wise – warm weather riding no issues with good ventilation a ride in 11 deg recently I found my feet getting a little cold but not uncomfortable – will be interesting to see how they fair in winter? The grippy fabric in the heal makes good contact with the sock and helps with any heal lift when walking.

The colour (blue) is amazing! The only gripe I have is the burrito style wrap over upper, I’ve either huge feet or it’s not quite wide enough so when tightened I’ve a small gap just below the upper boa – I’m actually going to get a small piece of neoprene to try cover this in colder days! Walking in these is fine – very stiff sole though so be aware if you’re a Walker/pusher/runner.

I ordered the Shimano Bike in size 37. They fit perfectly and they are very comfortable while riding or walking. I bought them for riding around town and for touring. I wanted a shoe that I can wear all day and that I can bike/hike in.

Fit well, comfy, pedal good, can walk well in them and they look great. What more could you ask for in a somewhat casual bike shoe. Solid shimano construction and design.

Comfortable shoes, work great with my SPD pedals. I was not sure whether to size up as I found many conflicting reviews online and could not try them on, but I chose to stick with my regular size (39) and they fit great.

This is my first official flat pedal mountain biking shoe. In the past I have been wearing various Vans shoes for grip and comfort. The materials of the Pearl izumi X-Alp Launch MTB Shoe feel of high quality and are well processed, giving a strong impression and confidence that they will be durable.

I ordered the Redwood colour and the photo’s here online very accurately represent the actual colours. The BOA lacing system was not a selling point for me, but at the time of purchase decided to give this new lacing system a try and I am now very pleased I did.

The lacing system is extremely easy to use and results in even and consistent lacing tension. The shoes were true to size and I ordered my regular shoe size which is a perfect fit. I have wide feet and the toe box has sufficient space that my toes do not feel cramped.

After a few rides with mixed riding styles I experienced no strange pinch points or hot spots on my feet. I ride a trail hard tail MTB and find that the soles have good grip for rough/rocky decent’s which gives me a lot of confidence.

Additionally, the sole is reasonably stiff/firm which helps maintain good power transfer during climbs. Overall, I am very satisfied with the comfort of the shoes and the quality of construction. I am not able to contrast them against numerous other brands or models available, but I certainly have a clear conciouns in recommending them based on the price/performance ratio they have provided me.

I bought these shoes for a multi-day bike-packing trip. They fit great and made it possible to comfortably explore by foot when not clipped-in and pedaling. On day 2 of the trip I got caught in a pretty substantial rain storm and my shoes were soaked.

Once I setup camp and got a fire going, I put the shoes near the fire to dry them out. The next day, I noticed a ridge of material had warped along the inside toe on one of the shoes. it had melted due to the heat and hardened into a rather uncomfortable and unchangeable position, so I spent the next 4 days annoyed with these shoes and haven’t worn them since.

When I got back from the trip, I found the warning card that came with these shoes saying not to put them near heat/fire, so I can’t say Pearl Izumi didn’t try to warn me. Great shoes for fair weather, not so much for bike-packing.

I hoped to use these as a gym shoe. I do traditional weightlifting and finish my workout with a 30-45 min spin bike session. So these seemed to be the perfect shoe to be a one-shoe-fits-all. And they probably would be but for the sizing.

I am a solid 11 which would be about a 45. 5. Since these are only available in whole European sizes, I went with 46. They are a tad too big and the 45 would be a tad too to tight. They list the 46 as a 11.

5. Other cycling shoes in 46 fit me okay so not sure if it’s just a PI brand thing? But if they do fit, then they seem to be very comfortable and good for cycling. They do seem to be true to size since they are probably a 1/2 size too big for me.

The toe box is fairly narrow, which is something I don’t like.

I have been using a pair of Recon 1. 0 shoes for about a year now with great results. Due to a Morton’s Nueroma, I prefer a moderately wide footbox (even if the fit is sightly sloppy) and the Recon 1.

0’s have worked quite well for me. The 1. 0s are really comfortable (for my foot shape), are reasonably stiff when pedaling, and the hiking comfort and traction has been impressive on Tahoe granite. I purchased the Recon 3.

0s because they were on sale and looked like a nice upgrade. The fit and finish of the 3. 0s look great and they retain all of the 1. 0’s comfort with one notable exception (for me). As soon as I took my first step on carpet, I felt a pretty unpleasant pressure point on the inner side of the upper tongue –right under the BOA strap.

It may be the exact same fit issue that others have noted but I knew immediately that the upper BOA strap on the 3. 0s would not work for my foot shape. Just an fyi, other than my need for a slightly wider toe box, I have a completely average foot (i.

e. normal arch, no bunions, etc). I will be adding another pair of Recon 1. 0s to my closet. I guess the velcro straps simply work better for my feet.

I’ve worn Sidi shoes exclusively for the last 15 years. Since I teach indoor RPM Spinning classes and wear cycle shoes at least an hour everyday I like a light colored shoe so the participants can see my feet turning like pistons.

Thought I’d give Specialized shoes a shot since they had an almost white color. I’ve used them only for a week or so and have been impressed. The circle ratchet tightens very well! And I was told in the local Specialized South Bay Cycle shop that the wires are actually steel and shouldn’t stretch.

Don’t know this to be true by I believe the SIDI ratchet wire is fishing line. It seems the MTB standoffs in the front are slightly taller in the front of the shoe than on the heel which tends to tilt you back a bit.

No issue for me but didn’t notice it on past SIDI models I’ve owned. The Specialized shoes seem to be constructed very well. Only time will tell how they hold up.

Run these while on my cyclocross and trail bikes. Super stiff sole is power transfer that you can feel. That said, these aren’t impossible to walk in on the trail or pavement. The rubber around the cleat pocket is thick, allowing contact with the pedal and grip during hike-a-bike sections.

At first the toe box was roomier than I’d prefer, but it doesn’t bother me any more. My one complaint is that the Boa dials are only one-way adjustable. You can tighten them one click at a time but not loosen them in the other direction.

You must pop up the dial (loosening them completely) and retighten. As you’d expect this makes on-bike adjustments difficult. For the cost of this shoe, it’s disappointing they chose to use inferior Boa dials.

Despite this, I’d still recommend to people wanting a stiff XC-style shoe.

I’m a bit of a novice cyclist and have been slowly curating my collection of gear over time (as it is extremely expensive). I finally decided to buy nicer shoes. I wear these for road cycling because I feel like the mountain biking shoes are typically more comfortable.

They worked perfectly with my spd clip ins and I didn’t experience any hot spots on my first ride. I don’t have much experience with shoes though, my first and only pair has been a cheap $40 set off Amazon.

Sizing seemed pretty true, I’m typically a 9 in most brands and a 40 fit perfectly. If you don’t want to spend $$$ on a shoe but want a nice sturdy option, these are great. I also love the color/rubber trekking on the bottoms! Again, I use them for road cycling so I can’t speak for how they hold up on a trail.

I’m upgrading a 15 year old set of Shimano MTB shoes, so I was expecting to be wowed and I am for the most part. Fit: compared to other brands, these ones are a little bit on the big side, but not so much that I would size down.

The toe box is really roomy and was comfortable right out of the box. The only issue I’ve had with them is part of the collar (inside and front by the Xpel tag) that digs into my ankle. Since it’s only on one foot (right), I’m hoping it will break in/soften up over time.

Function: power transfer is great for a MTB shoe. The insole is nice and provides a good amount of support and seems to align my foot/lower leg really well. The articulated toe box is nice for walking but still isn’t the same as the flat SPD shoes for rocky hike-a-bike stuff.

These will happily be my go-to shoe for gravel and XC stuff, but I’ll be sticking to my flat SPD shoes for enduro/DH.

Great trail shoes. Well made and very comfy due to cushioning and heel box flexibility while a midsole remains stiff for engaging with clipless pedals. That gives a feeling of platform shoes with benefits of being clipped in.

If you’re after watts and power transfer however, go for something more xc orientated as these are to flexible. The laces get dirty easily, the rest of the shoes is quite easy to clean with damp cloth.

The only disadvantage I’ve notice so far is I can feel cold coming from the cleats. As for the size, I followed the lenght of the sole instead of the size number and they fit perfectly. The servis provided by Tredz was fast and pfessional.

Overall, great value for money.

These are probably the most comfortable clipless style shoes I’ve ever used. They look like flats and feel great. The SPD cleat sits inside the sole deep enough that it almost doesn’t touch the ground when you’re just walking around.

They are stiffer than I thought they would be, so for all-mountain pedaling, they offer great support. They feel great when paired and connected to Shimano M8120 cleats. If you’re looking for clipless shoe that feels as close to flats as you’re going to get, try these.

These are my 1st clipless pedals I’ve ever used. Buying a gravel bike has sent me into unfamiliar territory. I ride the flat pedal version(Shimano GR5’s) of these shoes on all of my MTB’s and they fit my wide foot relatively well.

So these AM5’s aren’t totally new to me. They fit me without any issues, but I did remove the insole to give my toes more room and replaced it with a wafer thin stiff insole. I think they are good clipless starter shoes because you can still walk around in these.

Also if you have wide feet these are the ticket, if you don’t want to buy Lakes.
