20 Best Shoes For First Walkers (2023 Updated)

I’m one that never writes a review actually its my first. I hope I can save a lot of moms. As soon as I put my sons feet in the shoes he took off and never looked back. I’m a new mom but Im use to seeing the old school ways I grew up.

My grandmother would put lil bells on mine when I was a little one. These shoes are generational in my family every one had a pair. My baby started walking at 10. 5 months and even better with the hard bottom shoe and ankle support.

I have Spent a lot of money on other pairs of shoes and it all came down too one.

The shoes are great quality and value. Great old-School quality like my children wore. !!! Brought this pair for my grandson 9 months. One thing the sole is not slip resistant enough, please add more non-slip material to the soles.

I would buy again.

These shoes were perfect when my grand baby started walking. They support his ankles and give a nice platform for walking. They are a little slippery for floors but perfect when walking outside. I would buy them again.

Unfortunately, after printing off and following the fit guides COMPLETELY, we were unable to keep the Soft Motion Kylin Sneakers. We ordered the size recommended by the sizing guide and they did not have a wide enough opening/were not tall enough for my sons foot.

My son has a slim foot with a high arch and it was recommended the we order 5. 5 W. We then ordered a half size bigger and still had the same issues. Additionally, we had trouble with processing/shipping time and customer service.

In the end, we purchased and returned 2 pairs of shoes and went with a different brand for my son.

Great quality. We measured using the Stride Rite sizing plan and came up with 3W for my 12-month-old granddaughter. These came up a bit snug. They fit for the moment but with no room in the toes to grow.

However, they are cute and sturdy enough that I would order them again. Just be sure to measure carefully and then go a bit larger in size. I wish they came in another color too, like red or light blue.

I always bough stride rite for my older kids back when they had a store near us. They were my favorite then and I was nervous to order some for our youngest without trying them on. But I printed the measurement tool and they were a perfect fit.

He likes to wear them which is unusual because he normally hates shoes. Strongly recommend!.

Shoes did not match each other. The finish on the left shoe is shinier than on the right one. Elastic stretched more on the left shoe than on the right one. I needed a quick replacement, but the customer service rep refused to assist with that matter.

Instead, he kept repeating that to get a refund I would need to destroy the shoes and provide a photo of the destroyed shoes. I didn’t even ask for a refund.

My little one is 85th percentile for weight, and her chunky little feet are tricky to get in these. Her feet are pretty thick on the top right behind her toes, which is the first not-adjustable part of these shoes.

It’s better with thin socks: then she’s got extra room for her toes. When she wears the robeez socks, they’re quite hard to get on and don’t stay on very well.

I was searching for a good pair of soft sole shoes for my grandbaby and my sis-in-law highly recommended this brand. I bought a cute pair of red shoes for the baby’s 1st birthday and have just bought a second pair for her to wear to her daycare.

This the second pair of the Cheyenne Sneaker from Stride Rite we ordered for our granddaughter. This pair is a larger size. They are darling, fit great and go with all her outfits. Great buy!

Bought these for my 18 month old size 5. She has Adidas and Nike shoes but these are hands down the best. Super comfortable and the sole is on the soft side so she can run with them easily without falling.

They’re not stiff at all. Best shoe for a toddler.

My 13 month old granddaughter wasn’t having any part of shoes until she got her Cheyenne Mary Jane’s! She’s trying to walk and looks adorable in her new shoes! Great wide fit and got here in a timely manner!.

We were worried these shoes wouldn’t fit my daughters feet since they are a little wide and chunky, but we were able to get them on comfortably. She is able to walk freely, without tripping or having any trouble with them falling off.

These are perfect for girl or boy, I wish they came in the same style with some color or designs but it’s no biggie. My baby will use these for a good while, we got them right before they went out of stock! I would buy these shoes over and over for her, I will probably buy a pair each time her foot grows from now on.

Carters really does have the most perfect shoes for little feet! Don’t hesitate to buy these for your new or experienced walker.

These shows are great! My daughter has been wearing them for a few weeks now at daycare and they’re holding up fine despite the fact that she’s been wearing them on the playground, the ground of which is covered in pebbles.

The shoes are still silver and shiny, with no scuffs so far! My only complaint is that the inside of the shoe has bumps on the sole, either for grip or comfort (?), and it makes it a little hard to get her foot in when she is wearing socks that also have grips on the bottom.

But not a big problem, just a little annoying.

We got these a couple weeks ago and I’ve been on the fence but going to return these. They get a couple stars because my 16-month old thinks they’re AWESOME by looking at them (adores the bright orange), but the rubber bottoms are SO extremely thick and I can’t imagine putting these on him to walk around.

He’s a very confident and competent walker for 7 months but I’m not convinced a sole this crazy thick is safe. All his other shoes have more “natural” thin rubber soles with a thin bottom so he can feel the ground somewhat.

If I could have him try them on and still return I might bit these are so clunky, heavy, and thick I’ve decided they’re just going back.

These shoes literally gave my baby girl the confidence to get up and go. Prior to purchasing these she refused to even keep shoes on and take any steps. without holding me or dad’s hand. She loves the pink flowers on them and once I put them on she didn’t want to take them off! Once she got the feel of wearing them, she began walking within a few days.

They are soft and cushioned around the ankles, yet supportive compared to shoes I’ve gotten my first born when he was learning to walk. I had to use longer, thicker socks to protect his ankles from any bruising or digging in his delicate skin.

This was not the case with these shoes for baby girl! I also love how easy they wipe clean, no scuffing and the removeable sole with the sizing guide is a very smart, helpful touch. Needless to say, these shoes were worth every penny paid.

These shoes are adorable, but for being “extra-wide” they are still pretty tight on my daughter’s feet. It’s a good quality leather shoe, but seems that the design on the tongue rubs and is uncomfortable if socks don’t go high enough to prevent rubbing.

The biggest issue I had with these shoes was the lace holes being made of metal and not coated or covered with something else because pieces of the metal were pointing out and poking her and I cut my finger when I was trying to figure out why my poor baby was screaming.

For a $56 toddler shoe this should not be something that happens. Plus it shredded parts of the shoe laces already too because it would get caught on the metal that was poking out and snag the laces.

And now we can’t return them.

We are very pleased with this purchase! However, I have ordered April 27th, another pair of sandals for my great grandson and I still don’t have them. I have tried to call and got a recording several times asking if I would recommend Stride rite.

At this point the answer is NO! Tracking says that FedX was notified on April 29th and the shoes are still waiting to be picked up! VERY POOR SERVICE! I have been a customer since the 1950’s. My children wore Stride rite, my grandchildren, and now my great grandchildren.

I have purchased many many shoes.

The shoe had a defect on the front. Because she grows so fast and we knew they would get dirty anyway we kept it. We also knew the return process was going to be frustrating. The shoes are soooo much easier to put on.

We had the lace up shoes previously. My daughter does play with the Velcro, but they’re good shoes. I do wish I could get the Emilia with elastic laces, but these are a good compromise.

These shoes are awesome! They are true to size and clean up well considering they are white. When my daughter was beginning to walk she was very pigeon toed on both get but significantly more on her right foot.

She also was very clumbsy because she didn’t pick her right foot up correctly. She is very small for her age and it was very hard to find walkers in her size (size 3 at the time) when we got these and another pair of Stride Rite shoes her gait instantly straightened out when she wore the stride right shoes.

She is now 2 1/2 and still only in a size 5-6 but walks and runs a little too good, lol. She is no longer pigeon toed and can wear any shoes, but we stick with Stride Rite.

Bought these for my 13 month old! It’s his first real shoe as his feet were growing pretty fast. Really good quality and would buy again. Also nice it will find normal and wide feet (insert can be removed for wider feet).

I would recommend going on Stride Rite’s website for sizing!.

My 7 year old wears AFO leg braces and finding shoes that fit is difficult. Even more difficult is finding shoes where she still feels like she fits in with her friends, while allowing for the bulk of her braces.

We’ve tried hundreds of dollars worth of shoes to find ones that fit her braces and don’t rip within a month. Our PT said another family had luck with the 880s, and I’m happy to say we will be purchasing many more pairs! The quality is great, of course because New Balance, but the XTRA WIDE actually fits her braces and she can wear “normal” shoes.

This is the only shoe i could find in extra wide for my granddaughter. I am thankful to have found it. This is the only style for girls in extra wide, there are many options for boys. You should consider replacing the suede toe with leather or something more durable.

I am looking forward to your new styles for girls in extra wide.

Size Kid 10. 5 of 888v2is it’s about the size as Kid 11 of Rave Run. Also, the regular width of 888v2 is about the same as the wide width of Rave Run. Just what’s wrong here? I really wish NB makes a consistent sizing.

A half-size on 11-inch feet may not make a big difference, but it does make a huge difference on 5-inch feet of kids. The inconsistent sizing is extremely inconvenient. Basically, we ordered 10. 5 of 888v2 and 11 of Rave Run, and we ended up with two pairs of identical size.

Other than that, the quality of 888v2 seems better than any kid’s shoes we have ordered so far. We love the design and quality. recommended, but watch out – NB sizing is different on different models.

Nice and flexible sole, great for little ones who are still mastering all the movements and good for maintaining and working on foot flexibility. The last thing I want is my kid clunking around like an elephant.

Also appreciate the no-lace closure. Wish there were more colorways but it’ll do. Roomy for my little one’s meaty feet (grandma calls her meaty feeties, lol).

My toddler has incredibly wide feet, not only are they wide but incredibly “thick” from the top to bottom so most shoes are too tight on the top. I’ve only been able to find one kind of sneaker that will fit him.

But these do fit! Only complaint is that they are not made of a super sturdy material so it feels like he would be able to twist his ankle more easily.

Little one just started walking. I prefer bare feet where possible so they can learn to use their feet to its potential and feel their environment. These are perfect for protecting her feet when needed without the sole being too hard or rigid and soft enough to be comfortable and not compromise their development.

Good quality too.

I just received these in the mail today for my 10 month old – the size 3 is a bit large, but they’re the closest thing we’ve been able to find with a real sole that almost fits her! They seem very supportive, and stable.

The blue is almost “denim,” and the accent colors makes them neutral enough to match most things. They seem true to size, we own a pair of Stride Rite in a size 3 and they seem to be the same width/length.

Very cute. They sell this brand at Target but apparently its their “basic” line. You can tell a difference in quality, and fit. We are a fan of this brand, and will continue to buy their shoes. The price with the Anniversary Sale makes them the same as the basic line from Target.

The pair of sneakers are very cute. My 2 year old granddaughter currently wears size 5 and so I bought a pair of size 6. The size 6 is way too big for her. I expected that size 6 will be a little big and so she can wear thick socks and grow into them, but the shoes are pretty wide.

I will return them.

My daughter has wide feet which makes finding shoes that fit her without hurting her feet incredibly difficult. These shoes are the awesome. She absolutely loves them, they fit perfectly. I’m buying another pair because they fit so perfectly.

Great shoe for early walkers. It has a flexible light weight sole which is perfect for those first few years your little one is walking, running and climbing. Easy to put on and take off that your little one can easily learn to do it themselves.

In addition these shoes are very stylish. I personally love the high top style shoes. Can’t recommend it enough.

These boots are fantastic! This is the second pair I’ve ordered for my 1 year old and I only needed to replace them due to needing to size up. His previous pair were worn almost daily for 4 months and are hardly showing any signs of wear.

Very stylish and well made and easy to put on. Would 100% buy again.

Great quality, light weight, super durable. Its our 3rd pair of shoes from this brand – Oldsoles. Recommend them and I have loved them for my little man since he started walking!

Love Stride rite shoes! I bought them for my son when he was a child and am now buying them for my grandchild. They are the best quality, best price and best overall look for children! Most importantly my kids seem to really love running around in them comfortably.

Love these! They go with everything and they seem to be very comfortable for my 15 month old’s feet. He has no trouble walking in them and the grip is secure enough that he isn’t sliding around. They seem to be holding up really well.

I wish they were available in larger sizes because I would absolutely buy them.

Perfect for every day wear. Only downside is the Velcro wears out faster than the shoes and my daughter growing into the next size. She wears it every day; if she wore other shoes, it wouldn’t wear out as fast I’m guessing.

Disappointing for as high of quality shoes as they are.

Les Naturino Cocoon sont confortables et souples pour les enfants, et tiennent bien dans le temps (même quand ma fille faisait encore beaucoup de 4 pattes).

Shoe is great—size range is unfortunate. The shoe is super flexible, soft and breathable, 100% what I want in a baby shoe. Just something to protect their feet without affecting the development of all those important little foot muscles.

Unfortunately, she is a peanut and an early walker. So her 10cm foot is absurdly small for the smallest size the shoe comes in (12cm). She’s used to walking in too-big padded winter booties but these shoes, she literally can’t walk in.

They come off and even when I tightened them with a threaded ribbon like other reviews have suggested, they still looked like clown shoes and still fell off. Great shoe, I just hope she grows enough to wear it before it gets too cold again.

Strongly suggest you don’t buy more shoes than 1cm too big.

I have looked everywhere to find shoes for my 16 month old. Most baby shoes have thin midsoles and are too tight in different areas. Also most shoes aren’t completely flat for new walkers. These shoes arrived and I kid you not, the second I put them on him he wore them the rest of the day.

He loves them! The other day he came up to me and gestured to put the shoes on his feet. They are stretchy, breathable material, they have room for growth, and they shipped super fast. 10/10, five stars, so cute.

My great grandson lives in Germany with his Air Force dad and mom and needed his first pair of shoes. He does not like shoes!!! But these he loves. We followed the guide for measurements and ordered on blind faith! They fit perfectly and are so easy to put on an off.

Best purchase we have made for this little guy. Will be buying more in the future as he grows.
