20 Best Shoes For Casual Wear (2023 Updated)

I do not consider myself a minimalist or barefoot runner. I started running in Adidas Sambas (great for indoor soccer, awful for distance running), moved on to Brooks (good), and then Altras (very good) were my first real experience with “zero drop”.

Those Altras convinced me zero drop was the way forward, no more high heels for me. Using those I got myself up to ~50 miles per week. I researched Xero for awhile and they seemed so different that I waited and waited and kept telling myself “maybe next time I need new shoes.

“. Not sure why I eventually did, but I am sure glad I finally got a pair of Prios. Right out the box I could see these were different, and it was even more apparent once I put them on for the first time.

I have had my feet professionally measured by this wild computer thing at a local running store where I live and it gave me upper 90% in every metric having to do with foot width and height at every part of my foot (basically I’ve got big wide fat feet).

Buying shoes has always been an issue for me, doubly so for running shoes. But the first time I slipped on the Prio it was probably the best fit I’ve ever experienced. I didn’t want to take them off.

I’ve never worn any, but they feel like they fit like those two toed ninja/rickshaw shoes you see in Japan. The adjustable Huarache style straps are excellent and let you independently lock down whatever part of your foot you need to for an ideal fit (bye bye hot spots).

I’ve had them about a month now and once my day to day sneakers wear out I’ll probably get a second pair of Prios just for daily non-running use. I like them so much that next time I go hiking I plan to retire my old hiking boots and grab a pair of Xero hiking boots.

They are that good. I also immediately feel in love with the amount of “information” your feet can get about the ground while wearing the Prios. Going back to my Vans and DCs feels like strapping wooden boards to my feet, and going back to my Altras feels like running on clouds (I still use them as this can be nice sometimes for less serious runs).

Another thing to mention about how they feel on your feet is the super low stack height. Over the years of playing soccer I’ve rolled my ankles more times than I care to think about, and high stack height shoes just don’t feel as stable to me.

The Prio feels like my foot is flat on the ground and gives me a very stable base to work from, especially for any cross training I get up to. Think of it like a low two seat roadster compared to a high up SUV- which one is going to roll over first? One thing I noticed at first about the performance was that my mile times increased while expending the same effort.

The Prio has no “spring” like a lot of (probably most) running shoes, so everything moving you forward is you, no fancy rubbery materials pushing you along. I kept working at it and now I’m pretty much all caught up.

When I describe these shoes to people who are into running and know their shoe brands I tell them that Xero is basically the opposite of Hoka in their philosophy (I’m not saying one is right or wrong, it’s just what YOU want on YOUR feet that matters).

I normally wear a size 13, and every major brand I’ve ever bought in that size fits just fine. I have another pair of New Balance, A pair of Nikes, A pair of ASICS and Vans. All are size 13 and all fit just fine.

When I received these in size 13 I had to check the tag on the shoe to make sure they weren’t mispackaged, they ran at least a full size small. I first thought maybe they’re just stiff from being new and I should try to break them in, after wearing them a few times my feet were in pain.

I took them to a shoe repair shop to get them stretched, and then still had to take them back again to get them stretched further. Other than the sizing issue they are a nice quality shoe, but for a high quality brand with this kind of price tag I would expect consistent sizing.

Quite disappointing. I would otherwise recommend the shoe, but would recommend definitely buying a size up.

Have worn this style for many, many years. I like the look, the classic sole (as opposed to tragically trendy versions), and the wearability for everyday life. The newest iteration has a narrower toe box and feels like it runs just a bit smaller than all of the previous pairs.

I don’t mind them being some narrower, but they are definitely shorter. It was almost as if I would need a half size larger. If you wear thick socks, then the changes might be enough to consider up sizing.

Overall, I’ll keep buying and wearing this style despite their being made differently now.

i like them but after wearing them only a few times, they stiff material on the ankle hurts the back of my ankle. i would return them if i could but i didn’t know they’d hurt like this when i bought them.

Holy cannoli had i known that my $200 inserts in new balance shoes were the culprit of 75% of my knee pain, phew I certainly would have bought these sooner! I have had flat feet my entire life, and they greatly impacted my knees, hips, and spine, even causing functional scoliosis.

My scoliosis has since been corrected, as it was muscular, but I was told I had to wear prescription arch support for the rest of my life. After a few years of doing so, I developed pretty gnarly knee pain in my left knee and couldn’t figure out what the heck was causing it.

I started learning about ways to strengthen my feet and increase the arches in my feet, and that led me to Xero shoes. I have had a massive reduction in knee pain (it’s honestly shocking), and my feet already feel so stronger, and after not even a month of wearing these I am standing with a proper arch so much easier than before when I really had to think about standing while barefoot.

I was almost never barefoot when I had my my prescription arch support, and I even had an indoor pair of new balances with another pair of prescription arch support. Once I decided to switch to barefoot, I pretty much went cold turkey and holy **** Im so happy I did.

For context, I’m a 28 year old woman and I struggle with chronic pain from all the years of flat feet wrecking havoc on my entire body. I had some adjustment pains after I switched in my hips, inner knees, back of my knee, and calves/ankles, but with mobility exercises and muscle tissue work at home I’m feeling better than ever in these shoes.

I initially bought a different Xero workout shoe, but the design had a strap on the outer wall of the shoe, which my foot didn’t like. These don’t have any straps on the outer wall, so I got these and they are a way better fit for me.

Assuming I find ALL Hey Dude shoes to be the most comfortable shoes in the entire universe and that I am basing this review ONLY off of the different types of styles made by Hey Dude, I must admit – this particular style is my least favorite pair of Dudes so far.

Version – I am reviewing Hey Dude’s version/style of the Misty Chambray shoes I recently purchased online. Size and color – I ordered the tan/khaki color of Misty Chambray’s. The color is exactly what I expected when I placed my order online.

The website did a great job of depicting the look and color of these shoes as accurately as possible on screen. I ordered these shoes in a women’s size 8 thinking they would fit like most other Hey Dude shoes fit.

They do not. I repeat: THEY DO NOT! The difference is that there is not much room to wiggle around in this style like most other styles seem to offer and these Dudes run pretty narrow. Are they too small? No.

They’re not. They just don’t boast that roomy, relaxed fit that most other styles provide. Basically, these run true to size as long as you don’t have a fat foot or need the extra wiggle room Hey Dude shoes are known to provide.

If you don’t want a tight fit, ordering up a size would probably be a wise decision. Comfort and support – As far as comfort goes, this style of the Hey Dudes are the least comfortable of all the styles I own.

That being said, it’s important to note that they aren’t uncomfortable, per se. They just don’t seem to have some of the extra features that other styles offer. I think these would be much more comfortable for a flat-footed person who doesn’t need or want much arch support.

They also don’t provide as much cushion for your feet as other styles offer. I definitely don’t reach for these Dudes when I know I’m going to be on my feet all day and away from home. I use them more as a quick slip on shoe when I’m hanging out at home or if I have to run a quick errand.

They are great for short trips to the grocery store or when I’m working outside at home. Their best feature is that they are the lightest style of all the Dudes I own. You literally cannot tell that you have shoes on at all! I was blown away at how light they were.

Although these Dudes are my least favorite style so far, I do not dislike them by any means and I do not regret making this purchase. I love ALL of my Hey Dude shoes and styles and each pair has its place in my life.

I would definitely still recommend them to someone who’s looking for an attractive, basic, snug fitting slip-on Dude shoe.

Unfortunately, I’m not able to give a proper review on any of the Hey Dude shoes I purchased except that it is difficult to know which size to buy. I bought 4 pair around Christmas, 3 pair of the women’s Wally canvas (one for myself and two that were intended as Christmas presents for my sisters.

) I also bought a pair of men’s shoes for my husband. The women’s shoes were way too large for my sister and I. I ended up giving the smaller pair to the sister with the largest foot and they fit her.

The men’s pair ran smaller than expected, so I had to return them also. (My husbands old pair of hey dudes are size 11. The 12s I bought for him were too small). Out of the 4 pair I purchased, I kept one pair and sent the other 3 back.

After reviewing my refund at a later date, I noticed that I had not been refunded the full amount for the 3 pair of shoes I returned. After reaching out several times to hey dude via their on-line chat, I was finally able to speak with someone.

We emailed back and forth and she finally allowed us to speak via phone per my request. She explained that I had been given the refund amount for the 2 pair in women’s shoes that I returned, but she didn’t show a refund for the men’s pair.

She was supposed to check with the shipping dept and get back with me. Well, she never did. I then reached out via Facebook messenger and was basically told they will not refund me for the men’s pair of shoes bc they don’t have any proof of receiving them.

I know for certain there were 3 pair of shoes in the box I returned. I’m not sure why Hey Dude is not more accountable for the inventory they get back on returns. Their shoes appear to be cute and comfy; however, because of this mistake they made and are unwilling to correct I will not be purchasing any more shoes from them.

Very very disappointed in their customer service and hope they don’t treat other customers this way.

Bottom of soles are incredibly slippery, my older pair did not have this issue. Tried to return immediately upon delivery, but could not because the customer cannot return sale items. I did not see this alert anywhere on the product detail page, nor in the cart.

I work in ecommerce and this is a poor user experience. I wore the shoes once, but the soles are so slippery I cannot wear on hardwood floors at all and very slippery on concrete/tile floors like at the office and in the grocery store.

As an athlete, the slippery soles make it feel like I’m walking on any icy sidewalk and I don’t let my heels or toes strike first, I have to walk slowly and flat-footed or else I’ll slip. Can’t wear these and can’t return, so will have to donate to goodwill or toss them.

When I spend $150 on shoes, I really have high hopes for them. Having owned and loved MANY pairs of Nisolo boots, I was eager to get these shoes. I was sorely disappointed in their comfort on the first time out in the.

I hoped as I wore them that they would break in and get more comfortable. I’ve now owned them 11 months and I just can’t wear them anymore. They’ve gotten more and more uncomfortable. There’s no arch support (I’ve never needed it before and don’t with their boots) and there are hot spots along the top of the laces that rub my feet.

I wish I could return them.

Shopping experience was fine, product arrived within a reasonable time and was well packaged. No complaints there at all. My issue is with the product itself. The shoes — the soles, mainly — are incredibly heavy.

The uppers are very stiff and would take much wear to soften enough to become comfortable. Maybe it’s me, but I don’t think I should have to wear my shoes for a long time before they become comfortable.

Long and short of it — I Goodwilled them, figuring someone else may need/like them. For sneakers, I’ll stick with Allbirds.

After buying two pairs of these sandals in my normal size (9 1/2), I read some of the reviews and was sure that I would have to return them for a smaller size. Imagine my surprise when my sandals arrived today, I put them on, and they fit my feet perfectly.

Not only that, but they are incredibly comfortable and look wonderful on me. Everyone’s feet are different. Take a chance and order these sandals. It was worth it for me.

I bought these for my son. The shoes look really good in person, but the way they are designed the shoe fits tight at the area where the laces begin. I ordered his size, and even ordered a pair a half size up but both sizes had the same issue.

I wish they fit better, they are some attractive shoes. I had to return them and buy a totally different style of shoe for my son.

These run a little smaller and shallower than the classic high tops—and that’s a good thing! Okay, the smaller is only okay-ish, but the shallower is so much better. And they look great! Whereas the footbed in the high tops was so deep that I had to put my (rather thick) orthotics on top of the standard liner, they go right into these, albeit a bit snugly.

And the footbed has more sturdiness AND give to it, which is great. For me, it’s just a better shoe. I do want to see it in some nice vegan options, though. Buying them in suede was a terrible decision for me, one I felt I had to make.

Billy can and should do better with such options.

These are the gold standard of the modern sneaker. When I learned they could be made in leather, I purchased these beauties. As a correctional officer working 12-hour shifts and walking an endless maze of concrete and steel grate, these shoes held up to over 200 hours of on-duty wear and abuse plus personal wear.

I do not get into many use of force situations, but I would not want to kick someone wearing these shoes. The leather uppers took about 16 hours to break in for my feet and how tight I tie my footwear.

The foam and rubber soles did not need any break-in time. I recommend saddle soaping these leather Chuck Taylor’s after the breaking time and since my pair are all black I buffed in parade shine black boot polish.

The truck for leather care is to heat the medium to a liquid then apply and buff to the desired finish.

I have worn Converse Chuck Taylor’s for the majority of my life. I find them to be comfortable for any purpose such as walking and going out with friends. For me, the Chuck Taylor always runs big so I order one size smaller and it fits like a glove.

I love the fact that when the shoe gets dirty, they are easy to clean and keep clean for that matter with the right shoe cleaning kit. These are great shoes for wearing to go run some errands and even dress up with some nice chino’s and a button up shirt.

Furthermore, if you lift weights, then these are the perfect shoes for lifting. The only thing that I would not suggest doing is running in these shoes because they do no provide the support you need.

I would highly recommend these Converse Chuck Taylor’s to any person of any age group.

So everyone seems to like these shoes, and I would say they could get expensive if you looking for funky looks. But they really uncomfortable. Flat sole and no support. So this review for 2 same shoes but different colors.

So I don’t know why everyone likes them, but my feet seem to not feel comfortable at all. And yeah I know you supposed to break them in, which I found out recently. So my first were pink low top and after a month or so they started break at the seal between sole and a side.

Do water would get inside. Then I got high top that had cool gradient design. But they were size 9 and I read that chunk Taylor run half size up. So I bought them but oh well my feet got blisters and my feet were in great pain.

So here I finally got size 10 and meanwhile my feet felt more freedom still I got blister above calf from material friction and my feet were a bit in pain. Also, size 10 looks big on my feet, but if I got size 9.

5, I feel like one of my feet would still feel uncomfortable. Comparing to previous shoes pain was lesser, but I either should were any special socks with converse or they just not for my feet. So the top picture i dyed them but the color turned dark blue instead of black and the white part turned cool purple, and the second I bought recently I like black color, might update picture if I can.

In the end these the reasons for a rating.

My son-in-law was SO happy with this birthday gift!! He’s standing much of the day teaching health occupations to young people. He claims these are ultra-comfortable and stylish, all-day wearable, and easy to dress up or down as he wishes.

I was thrilled with the quality and value.

I work in a tax office and am on my feet most of the day, escorting clients thru the building. These shoes are a lifesaver because the thick soles cushion the bottoms of my feet. I used to go home and change into my slippers as soon as possible, because my feet were so tired, but my feet aren’t tired anymore thanks to Angel Steps.

The durability of the shoe seems fine but if you have to bend or do anything that requires lots of activity, it will cause creases on the toe of the shoe.

The design is very stylish. You can wear with a dress/skirt or casual with jeans/leggings/shorts. This is the main reason I love these shoes. The versatility is impeccable. The only thing I would change is maybe changing the sole or something to make the shoes comfortable to wear all day.

and that’s probably why you’re checking them out. And yes, on feet they really look fantastic and tie many outfits together. However, the leather quality is questionable. Dropped mine once and now have a little permanent dent on the left toe area.

Additionally, the fit is a bit weird. Size 13 felt like the right length but the shoe would slide up and down the heel thanks to the tongue being so far forward (making for a huge opening). Had to go with a size 12 even though I end up having to curl my toes a bit cause.

you know. anything for the drip. The actual construction of the shoe seems extremely sturdy though, as is usually the case with NB, and it looks just as nice in person.

These shoes look great, they really pop and the colors are a lot better in person than from photos. They’re comfortable too and feel great on my feet, coming from someone that has extremely flat feet.

The downside is that they also feel pretty cheap and some of the materials are not great. For example, the material for the tongue is just fabric with some very thin foam, almost zero padding. And the edges of the tongue aren’t even sewn shut.

I feel like this is going to be e first thing that wears down on the shoe and I have no idea how long these will last. I have to give these 3/5 stars. Look great and feel great, but the material and quality is lacking and I fear for how long they will last.
