20 Best Shoes For Bike Riding (2023 Updated)

I really wanted BOA shoes at the time but the fit on these was superior to stuff costing twice as much, slightly wider than everything else so I wasn’t getting sore toes. They take abuse extremely well and have had repeated drops (and a bike drop), scuffs and stamps from flying mounts/dismounts, I’d probably buy them again if it wasn’t for needing something easier to undo on the move.

They clean easy too as I often have them coated in mix/gel spillage, wipe with a sponge. Come to think of it the velcro I’d have expected to wear out a bit by now is still secure as can be. Paired with Look Keo classics, bolt lugs secure as ever.

I’ve yet to really wear these in anger but my first impressions are pretty positive. I’m a bog standard UK size 10 and find that EUR size 45 fits me perfectly – I have another pair of Shimano shoes and a pair of NorthWave, that are both size 45 and perfect fits.

They are however MTB shoes. This is my first pair of road shoes and whilst they fit fine in terms of length, and will fasten, they do seem slightly narrow. I appreciate that road shoes may well be more sleak than MTBs anyway, and that they might just feel odd to begin with.

The shoes have a good sole, which is pretty stiff and certainly good enough for general riding. I don’t really need a pair of high performance shoes, but I’ll still go for the best quality for what I need.

I’m a fan of Shimano shoes and that’s why I’ve got these.

These are my first cycling shoes and honestly I didn’t expect them to be comfortable. It’s uncomfortable to ride with cleats for a first few days. On my first 200km ride I fell thrice as I forgot I had cleats on but by my next 300 km ride I got the hang of it and these shoes performed superbly in the entire 300 km of wet weather.

After so much of rough use, didn’t find a scratch on them and they appear as good as new after the first wash. Happy I went with the Navy color as it looks suttle yet stands out of the black ones.

Almost impossible for me to find any special shoes like bike shoes, or even athletic shoes like running or tennis shoes, because my size in these non-US lasts would 14. 5 which doesn’t exist. In the European sizes for these Giro Sector Men’s Shoes a 49 comes close to my size.

European size 49 is not available in many, if any, other quality bike shoes. These shoes seem like good MTB shoes so far, stiff soles, reasonable weight and old style Boa closures. Cons for these shoes for me are because, though these shoes are the perfect length for my feet, the shoes are too wide for me in size 49.

Shoe width has never been a problem for me when wearing medium D width shoes in size 14 in US made dress shoe. And the cheaper Boa closures do not have micro-adjust to loosen them, you have to pop the Boa knob, release all the tension and start over tightening them, being careful not to tighten them too much or you will have release all tension and start over again.

Hence 4 stars.

Now that I have had 6-7 rides(MTB and Gravel) on them, not thrilled. Moved from Sidi dominator that I had used for past 10+ years. Like the Giro tread better when off bike because it is less slippery.

Have to say, my feet slip around in the Giro Sectors when riding. When I try to get the boa tight enough, and it presses so hard on the tops of my feet that they go numb, so I opt to have them looser to reduce numbness, but then they feel very sloppy when riding.

Dont completely hate them, but disappointed for the $. The sidis I could really clamp down to be one with the shoe without any discomfort. The sidis tend to hug my feet better when tightening them instead of putting pressure on tops of my feet.

Have owned these for a year now and purchasing a second pair. These shoes are phenomenal and have been used for 7-9 hr gravel rides and long distance road riding. Lightweight, durable, and great adjustability with the BOA dials.

Only downside is that they will not keep your feet warm in colder weather (less than 45F). So if you ride these in cold climates make sure you test fit with thicker socks.

Wanted to try a 5 10 shoe and these looked great. At first I liked them, good looking shoe with great grip on the bottom for a clip-in shoe (coming from Sidi Dominator). After a few rides I found some issues with the overall design and will be returning them.

First – I wear size 12 and the shoe cuts into the outside of my feet at the widest part. I thought I’d get used to it but after 5 rides it’s getting worse. I liked the wider toe box at the front of the shoe but there are hard ridges on the outside for abrasion protection that are just in the wrong spot for my foot shape.

Second – the laces and strap are a pain for daily use. I’m used to ratchet or BOA closures that give some adjustability as you ride. These you have to unstrap and retie as the ride goes on to adjust.

Overall the shoe looks great and is good for walking around with the cleat installed. The soles are great on slippery rocks and give some ankle support. But for daily MTB rides these are not for me – will be trying the 5 10 Kestrel BOA next but those were not available at REI when I bought the Trailcross.

I used the sizing chart and went up a whole size. I have wide feet with a high arch, 11 inches long, 4 1/2 inches wide. It wasn’t enough and I had to return the shoes and go up another size. It would be nice if there was a different closure system than laces.

I am nervous about riding with loose laces and then having a lace get caught in the pedals. Once this happens you can’t help but think about it. The laces can be covered by the velcro closure but it just seems obvious to me that laces and pedals are a bad combination.

A bolo style closure would be better and then they could skip the velcro. I went online and bought some lace locks and just trimmed them down short so I have no worries. Overall, the shoes are working just fine and I’m quite happy with them.

I’m planning some bike packing trips this summer. My current shoes (Specialized Recon 2) are great on the bike and good for a quick hike a bike, but I wanted a pair of cycling shoes that I could wear off the bike and avoid bringing a second pair on my trips.

These shoes fit the bill 100%. They are stiff and solid on the bike but off the bike I can’t even tell I’m wearing cycling shoes. I’ve paired them with the crank brothers cleats (with one shim) and they are recessed perfectly enough so that I don’t hear them click on hard surfaces/gravel when I’m off the bike and clip in/out perfectly when on the bike.

I was weary of spending the extra $50. 00 over the other types REI had in stock but about 150 miles in and lots of walking around I’m so glad I did. On a 40 degree F ride my toes got a bit chilled but I can’t take any points off for that because these are shoes more suitable to Srping/Summer rides.

Very narrow fit causes pain. Once broken in after many months of pain, eventually it did get comfortable. However, soon after, the suede around the lace eyelets failed on one of the shoes. IMO it is a design flaw if you see how it is constructed, forces from the toe box are exerted directly to the material around the bottom eyelets.

If you’re okay with months of break in followed by quick material failure then these are the MTB shoes for you. Very disappointing. I’ve never seen suede/leather shoes fail in this way even after years of use biking.

These were not crashed or abused. I take care of my gear.

Note I have a wide and tall foot. Unfortunately these were too small for my 8 Wide (tried 8’s). These were cute enough that I might reorder the 8. 5 to try. No experience with them since they didn’t fit.

Not sure how grippy they are with the inverted dots. The other pair (Hellion Elite, same brand) that had the dots stand out made sucking noises on my hardwood floor when I tried them on (also too small in the same size) and weren’t nearly as cute looking.

Just bought these shoes last month and after some riding with them, and building , I really like the comfort, durability, support and stiffness of the sole. I have tried 5/10s in the past, but these have far more support, and the sole of the shoe bends far less.

Mountain bike shoes are meant for bike. They are not meant for walking. This shoe will hold great to your pedals but I wouldn’t recommend running a marathon in them.

So, other people have written that these shoes ran big for them. I actually found that they ran small for me in multiple ways. They were too short, too narrow, and the straps I couldn’t Velcro together.

I am normally a size 6 (37EU). That’s what I ordered online and they were too small for my feet. In fact, even a size 7 (38EU) were a bit too snug. Size 8 (39EU) fit me much better. So, apparently I have fat, wide feet.

If you have that, you may need to order a size or two up. I have a Peloton at home, which uses Delta Cleats (Three holes). But the Peloton at the hotels usually use SPD Cleats (two holes). I bought this specific shoe because it can do both cleats.

I bought both Delta and SPD cleats so that I can swap them out when I travel and use the Peloton at a hotel.

I just got the shoe and like the way it fits. I do have some concerns with the boa closure system. in a recent race the shoe closure device got jammed after getting mud on it. I tried to loosen my shoe at one point and it was a no go.

I later had to tear the shoe off my foot and fiddle for a long time to get the system freed and working again. BUMMER.

These shoes are brilliant! I’m a big fan of Sidi and have several pairs of their road and off-road shoes. I wanted a mid range MTB shoe that looked good and had a wire closure. These couldn’t have been better – they are comfortable.

Also a really really nice shoe. Lighter than I had expected, which is great. I’m a 42 in Fizik with room to possibly sometimes squeeze into a 41. 5 in a thin sock, and the 42 in Sidi for me is a perfect fit.

Even better than the 42 Fizik. Its bang on. For reference I have a foot more on the narrow to normal side.

This is my first pair of cycling shoes (have always just used running shoes in the past), so I don’t have much to compare to, but I’m very happy with them. They’re comfortable with a good amount of stiffness that feels like I have much better power transfer and connection to the pedals without slipping.

They look nice and are comfortable off the bike, and I like the velcro strap to keep the laces down. The only issue I have is the cleat attachment on the left shoe is kind of loose so slides back and forth when I’m walking, which I can feel.

A minor inconvenience since I spend little time in these shoes not actually riding. Glad I paid attention to other reviewers who said they ran a bit small. I’d normally wear a 9 and ordered the 9. 5 and they fit great.

I’ve got a wide foot. Most clipless cycling shoes were just too stiff, required break in or needed to be long before they got wide. Admittedly, my size 46 (us12) is half size bigger than my running shoes, but they’re like a skate shoe.

Broad but not pointy and long. Just plain comfortable on and off the bike. The cleats are not even noticeable on any surface, simply clip out and feel like you’re in sneakers. Loads of people ask me what shoes they are and are genuinely surprised that they have cleats.

Super durable, I can see these lasting a long time. Been through hell and back and brush up like new! I use them with CB mallet E’s with the long spindles and they are perfect. As far as a duo goes, the CB’s and the Rally’s are a dream! So easy to set up and dial in.

Some different, muted colours would be cool, like an all grey or something to make them look a little more streamlined. Love the black, but the white slab with the dropped bits? kinda makes em look a little chunky.

Such a minor, petty thing, but if I had to nitpick it’d be the only superficial negative on these. Totally love riding in them. Versatile and can be worn all day. Great work Trek 👍🏼.

Bought these because I have a pair of Bontrager XC shoes I absolutely love. Bought the same size, but these have a completely different fit, nasty pressure points, far too small. Generally shoe manufacturers have qualities that run across the board; e.

g. ; Adidas are all a little narrow on me, Nikes are wider and fit better, Nikes run a half size big, etc. But to have such insane variation (a full size between my XC shoes and these) between a single manufacturers’ products is really not confidence inspiring.

Out of the box I really liked this shoe. I have a size 12 wide food and the fit was great. The BOA system is designed really well unlike other shoes. After a couple of months of use though, the underside started to peel away (on both shoes).

Super odd. I brought them back to CC Pure and the staff were great – they offered me a full refund. They brought in a Giro Rincon from the Bow Trail location for me – greatly appreciated. Only three rides on this new shoe.

Bottom line, both me and the staff were surprised by the Bontrager Foray’s premature wear and failure. I had a picture but I deleted it. Based on the experience of others, I’d still recommend this shoe to others and I chalk up this experience to bad luck.

And while I would have purchased another pair of Forays, none were in stock, thus the Giro Rincon purchase. I really appreciate the team’s commitment to customer care. Thank you.

I bought these and also the Shimano MT7, and ended up keeping these. The key was the velcro at the bottom which ensured the shoe didn’t get too tight across my toes. The size and fit was the same in both shoes.

I’m hoping they last as long as my last pair of cycling shoes. about 11 years, ridden with both a road bike and a road tandem. They’re just about the same walking as any pair of mountain bike shoes I’ve had.

I have a wide foot (for a woman) across the toe/ball and so buy mens shoes.

These shoes were fine in terms of foot length but even with my narrow feet my toes were too compressed from the small toe side, the toe box didn’t suit me, so had to return them. I would have preferred as well that the tongue was splitting in the middle rather than on both sides, that was slightly annoying as pressing on ankle.

I can’t comment for in use performance and stiffness. But other than that the shoes were well made, good reinforcement all around to protect shoe and foot, walking in them was fine, and they did look great in grey, shame they didn’t fit me.

Wouldn’t pay full price for them though, more expensive than equivalent model from other brands.

The shoes are somewhere between “good” and “great,” but I think more on the side of “good. ” I have ridden approximately 500 KM since I bought the shoes both on platform pedalsm, on a mountain bike, and spsd clipless pedals, on a gravel bike.

Riding clipless pedals is an improvement over the platform simply because there is a definite shoe slide off the foot position on the pedals on the platforms. While the added stiffness on the sole material is very welcomed as far as power transfer, in the very sandy roads I ride, the sand decreased friction leading to the “slide.

” I have not ridden in rainy weather, so I don’t know their performance under these conditions. The old shoes with softer soles and additional surface contact did well on the sandy conditions. The gravel rides have been substantially better with clipless, the shoe barely registers as far as weight and comfort, and these things are good things.

My only very small gripe, and on yesterday’s ride it did not register, was the slightly stiff tongue, on one ride I had to stop and reposition the tongue since it was “digging” into the area of contact, and only on my right shoe.

First off I will say these are the most uncomfortable shoes until you hit the 100 mile mark. There are all kinds of pressure points, but they eventually break in and feel great. I live in the PNW so I ride in a lot of rain and my feet are always dry.

Also, these do a good job of not heating up when it is warm out. For sizing, my running shoes (Altras) are US mens 11 which gives me a thumbs width of space off the big toe. For this shoe, I ordered a 45.

5 which equates to a US mens 11. 75 and that gives me the same thumbs width off the big toe. I would recommend getting a 1/2 to 3/4 size up from your running shoes. These do run small. When you are clipped in, the shoe stay in place.

The boa dial is nice to keep your laces down and your heel in the shoe. I also like that you can walk around in these shoes without slipping on the cleat. I mainly ride gravel and mountain bikes with these shoes.

I’m old, 70. I kinda smashed my feet up, along with bilateral tibia plateau fracture and 13 screws and rod in tibia because of a car wreck 15 years ago. Several years later, went down kinda fast on a dirt trail fully clipped in.

Switched to Diety flats on MTB and road bike and low top hiking shoes. 10 years on, foot pain became a little unbearable after 30 miles. Got some Rime 2. 0 and Deore XT spd pedals and went from painful to uncomfortable.

For me, an unquestionable and quantifiable improvement. MTB gear for a road bike? It better distributes the weight of foot bed, so why not? Just hope i don’t go down fully clipped in again, thinking you’re on flats and not spd is a hard habit to break when stopping the bike.

After wearing another brand’s slightly too large road shoes for a season (43. 5), I decided to go down one euro size to a 43. I normally wear a 10 in street and running shoes. The shoes are snug but not tight with a snug fit in the heel, which I like.

I have narrow heels and most of the cycling shoes I’ve tried are loose in the heels. I’ve been struggling with hotspots and some numbness on 50 + mile rides in the older shoes but, so far, in the Torch 3.

0, my feet have been comfortable. The adjustability of the shoes with the dual Boa closure is great for fine-tuning while in the saddle, dialing in either direction to tighten or loosen – not the usual pull-out to release the Boa closure.

I’m going to keep fiddling with arch support and wedges under the forefoot to maximize comfort, but so far these are the best fitting, best-featured shoes for the cost I’ve found. I average about 100 to 120 miles per week with 3-4 rides and don’t compete but like to go fast and train hard.

I was looking for this particular shoe everywhere with no luck finding my size in black color. Until I found Mike’s bikes. Not only the shoes I wanted but also very fast delivery. I will be ready with new comfortable shoes on my 6 days touring trip in Oregon.

Got it in less than 3 weeks (Netherlands-Canada) and I thought it will be small on me (size 7 women) and so excited it fits well with a bit of a room for warm rides…The color is not pink more of a light berry…definitely recommended for women who are looking for a cute colored MTB shoes.

This was a bit epic. Normally take a 43, but ordered 44. Why? I don’t know. But to Pushys credit, the return , refunds and reorder went very smoothly. I have wide feet, and they fit well. With a bit of give in the future, they’ll fit like a glove.

I’d prefer a Boa to tighten, but the ratchet buckle is fine. I also ordered a spare set of buckles, as I have a habit of wrecking them. Pushys will get them for you if you need them $20-ish from memory.

With enduro getting bigger and bigger I have been looking for a good set of shoes for a long time. Something that is stiff enough to pedal, flexible enough to not hurt the feet and also something that can be walked in and doesn’t soak up water like a lot of the ‘skate shoe’ style downhill shoes on the market.

The Line for me ticks all of the boxes. Nice a light weight yet still comfortable to ride all day. I wear these for 6-8 hour rides most weeks, have no discomfort, pain or blisters which is pretty massive for the amount of time I spend in these.

The fit is great, a wider toe box then the previous Flow shoes I was on. A excellent value shoe, with all the bells and whistlers of top of the line.

Have had my Giant Line shoes for a year now and they have served me well. They were much cheaper than other options from other brands for a trail/enduro style shoe. Lots of protection from bumps and rocks, comfortable fit and clean up well after wet/muddy rides.

Only wish they came in an all black colour!!.

I’m an avid cyclist riding somewhere between 3500 and 4000 miles annually with the majority MTB/XC some road and the obligatory winter trainer. I bought this pair of shoes to replace a well worn Specialized BOA/Velcro MTB that lasted well beyond their expected lifespan.

My first impression as I unboxed was – wow- nice shoe. The uppers have nice clean lines, material feel sturdy and love the aggressive soles. The BOA lacing system is nice with a relatively even tightening across all rungs.

Although while riding I did get some hot spots across the top upper section. (I’m hoping this abates as the shoes are broke in) The aggressive sole appears to have superb “gription” which will definitely be beneficial during my hike a bike segments.

But… missing the front cleats – screws there… but come on… why not give me the front cleats? I’ll have to go looking for those as some point before the spring and the mud/muck rides. Stiffness – stiff enough for long XC rides and feel good on a trainer.

The sizing was dead on 41 and feels like 41. Overall – not a bad first impression. The hot spots across the top of the foot worry me and the lack of the cleats is irksome.

My 12 year old Forte MTB shoes finally bit the dust (the soles were separating) so I went out looking for a MTB shoe that wouldn’t break the bank. I haven’t logged many rides in these shoes yet, but so far I’m impressed.

They seem very well made and are pretty comfortable. Time will tell how well they hold up. My only minor gripe is that the BOA lacing system doesn’t seem to tighten the bottom rung (closest to the toes) as much as the upper rungs but that’s easily solved by giving the BOA laces a little tug with my finger.

I wear size 11 US. I originally ordered size 44 but it was a bit short. I am very happy with the size 45. I am happy I could also return the first smaller shoe to the store even with my mail order. The fit and firmness is excellent.

I originally tried other cheaper shoes on Amazon but the sizes, fit, & feel did not compare to the Bontrager and they were a hassle to return (e. g. to China). I am very happy after about 4 rides and maybe 60 miles.

I like the BOA knob and happy with a single know.

This is my second pair of these shoes. They are very comfortable on long rides and are wide fit. The first pair outsides got destroyed on the side of the shoe from the conditions I ride in, after about 6 months.

The second pair would of ended the same, except I took them to the cobbler and had them add about 4×1 inch of toe guard rubber to the side of the shoes. They need to to add some protection to the sides of the shoe or my next pair will not be Specialized.

I would only recommend this shoe to someone who does not ride in the rocky conditions that I ride in.

I’ve been a big fan of my Torch 1. 0 with delta clips for indoor riding but wanted a shoe I could walk and drive in to get to class. These feel almost identical to the Torch 1. 0 even with the SPD clips.

Besides clipping in you wouldn’t even know it was a different shoe. So if you’re an indoor cyclist but want a show you can walk and drive to class in with the similar feel of the Torch 1. 0, this is for you.

Happy I pulled the trigger on these.

Generally love Specialized – now riding my 4th straight Epic. OK, I’m a fan boy. Have gone through 3 or 4 pair of Specialized mtb shoes, usually comp level. I like the fit and weight. But the BOA dial is not great – seems lose its place, loosening the fit during rides.

And it can be banged off against rocks – I just did this. Went down kinda hard on a fall that had me rolling over a bit and during that, one shoe happened to hit rock right on the dial, which popped off and cannot be reattached.

I’ve just learned BOA has some sort of “lifetime guarantee” on the dial, so I placed a claim. We shall see what brings.
