20 Best Shocks For 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee (2023 Updated)

Installed a a set. Front end rear. The fronts are great. Nice upgrade and level the truck well without sacrifice of ride quality. The rears are way too soft. Hit any choppiness or low spots in the road and the back and is all over the place, and bounces like the shocks are just bad right out of the box.

Looking for another product as these will NOT be staying on my truck.

Significant improvement over worn OEM shocks that had 100,000 miles on them. Installation was easy. No need for tire removal or use of jacks. Recommend spraying bolts/nuts with liquid wrench (or similar product) over multiple days before removal.

Doing this and using hand tools I was able to remove old bolts without any breaking. Biggest issue I had was sourcing out new hardware.

Replaced factory shocks on ’13 Passat TDI with 136k. These Monroes work great, much better ride and control now. Tires on driver side were wearing on inside and making noise, that seems to have stopped now.

Very pleased with product and price! Only 3 bolts to install after you remove the wheel, but the lower 21mm is a bit difficult to get to.

I just installed them yesterday , on my 2001 Ford Explorer 4WD Sport Utility. They make a great improvement in handling !! Muchly needed. Previous owner had not changed shocks at all ; over 200, 000 Kms on truck.

I was worried about extra length but I got them in easier than I anticipated. I made sure both wheels were off the ground , with tires on, and I disconnected rear sway bar. I also put top end of shock on board and then compressed with my body wait , and then tightened zip ties around the coil springs ; made it easier to push them up about 3/16 ” to fit the bottom in.

Once they were in place , and bolted, I then cut the zip ties. I ordered them personally at the desk and they came 5 days early. Thank you Canadian Tire.

I have bought Monroe Brand for all my cars and trucks for over 10 years without problem until now. I purchased the Monroe Load adjusting Shock Absorbers for my 02 Grand Cherokee Laredo I6. I read up on them before purchasing and all seemed well.

I bought them, they installed easily and cleared my tires and gave my jeep just the right lift and ride. After a few months I started hearing loud creaking while driving. I was upset and the ride became bad.

I figured they had to be replaced and may just be some fluke, maybe I got a bad set. When attempting to have my new tires rotated I discovered that the shocks had bowed and the coils had been rubbing and cutting a groove into the sidewall of my brand new $200 each tires.

The groove made the tires unsafe and they need to be replaced and the defective shocks voided my warranty. I replaced shocks thinking just a bad set with the same ones and I am waiting on Moroe to pay for the tire replacement.

In the meantime the new set was on for less than two weeks, failed again and are now cutting into my tires again. Would not recommend this to anyone. These shocks give an otherwise good company a bad name.

I gave it one star because it would not allow zero stars.

My 98 Tacoma rides more like a car now. I had installed some cheaper shocks before and it rode stiff an you felt every bump so you get what you pay for. The Bilstein 4600 improved the ride so much I highly recommend them.

Time will tell if they last I have only had them on for a few weeks.

It did fit my 04 jeep grand cherokee as advertised however I purchased this one over the one of the cheaper ones as it was listed as OEM compatible. I did read the reviews and saw that the cheaper ones were warned against but also saw comments about these not being that great.

I do notice the bounce that someone else mentioned and while the front shocks came with hardware, the rear shocks did not. When I called around to try to find replacement bolts for these, I learned I would have to take in the old bolts to match up or special order.

The old bolts were very difficult to get out and was ready to cut them out. Luckily they finally came out with a great deal of effort and were still able to reuse.

The product was as described but the attention at the store in Middletown New York was very bad and the manager was very rude (Micke) as another one that was there (jose)

Ordered a set of these, and the matching rear shocks for my wife’s 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The lowest setting,. 75″ actually was slightly higher than that. Had to redo the install once as the middle setting of 1.

5″ was too high. Install went fairly smooth, just wish the instructions had torque specs.

These 5100 struts are high quality and ride much better than the worn factory struts they replaced. The finish on these looks like brushed aluminum and should be very durable. I put them on the lowest setting which leveled my Jeep WK nicely by raising the front just a little bit.

Changed the rear shocks last week and then the front ones this weekend. Huge improvement to the ride. My old shocks were pretty much gone. Everything went well until the very last one. Was tightening the nut on top part of shaft and felt like was cross threading.

Rather than force it I took off and discovered the threads were barely cut. I did not want to wait another week to get a new one, so had to run to hardware store and buy a tap and die set to cut the threads properly.

Shocks feel great, but the manufacturer could have a little better quality control to catch something like this before shipping. Overall I am pleased.

I recently purchased these rear shocks for my 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ. Not only was the shipping fast and efficient, but also the installation part of these shocks as well. Everything was a perfect fit and for me the only difficult part of the rear shocks was just putting the rubber inside the shocks.

Other than that these are absolutely amazing for the price and very under-appreciated. Since installation of these, not only is my ride on the road smoother and more in control, but especially off road as well.

You absolutely will get the wrong shock so match your P/N on the shock to the one on the box 18465. 10 is the number you’re looking for , currently as of June / July ‘19 it looks like Rugged Ridge has packaged 18465.

09 shocks in the 18465. 10 boxes, if you’re not careful you could mistake them for rear shocks bc they look like tears. But they are smaller than the. 10’s you’re rear shocks should be bigger than your front.

Now I’m on my 5th replacement order and have yet to receive the correct shock. I don’t think this is a reflection on Extreme Terrain but rather on Rugged Ridge as a new Jeeper with lots of upgrades in mind I’m positive that I will be avoiding any product made by Rugged Ridge.

Pretty much just what you would expect from your average hydro style shock absorbers. On my 95 ram 1500 Im currently running the 7000 series shocks for 6 inch lift on all 4 corners plus have the dual front shocks and dual steering stabilizer shocks My truck has 91k miles on it The skyjacker lift has been on since around 50k Honestly not much has changed in the last 20 years as far as ride quality with the newer shocks they look feel and handle just like the previous ones I installed back in 97.

For the price they are decent. Ive tried multiple brands rancho. Es3000 and 5000 Pro comp , skyjacker and the rough country h2s The rough country outperformed the rest hands down in an off-road type situation but wasnt the greatest on normal roads but still one of the best Ive found for a reasonable price.

The skyjacker 7000 are mediocre at best in the rough hilly rocky or muddy terrain. Will they get the job done at a decent price yes But They are better suited for that daily driver pavement princess that daddy bought you that occasionally sees a dirt road But at the end of the day literally the only difference between your run of the mill well known brands.

Like pro comp. rancho. Skyjacker etc is the color of the dust boot the logo sticker they send you and the name on the packaging. A truck is supposed to ride like a truck not grandmas Buick. You wont find better for less or gain anything more than a different color boot with a different name on the stickers by wasting hours searching Unless you go with triple the price.

I have a 1975 Chevy K 10 with single front shocks. Apparently the summit listing isn’t very clear and I was given these shocks for the rear. I called Summit and after some digging we found the right shocks for my application.

If you have this truck the skyjacker shocks you need are M8043. Summit was very understanding and the return process was easy and the shocks came within five days I have no hard feelings. The correct shocks worked great and easy to install no extra parts or hardware.

I was concerned about loosing some lift because I replaced the Rough Country gas shocks with these Skyjacker Hydros. I didn’t loose any lift at all that I could tell and the difference the hydralic made as compared to gas was expected, but these Hydros really impressed me.

The rebound is incredible, they perform as well as the Rough Country shocks in rough terrain but provide a gorgeous ride as compared to the gas. Actually got rid of some rear interior rattles as well!! Good purchase!.

Well been a few weeks and no problems. there hanging strong. There maybe 1 little problem. If you buy these, plan on getting new bolts and nuts. They came with aluminum nuts and bolts for the bottom of the shock.

I easily striped them out. I replaced them.

Great ride improvement, great price, I would recommend them to anyone. The only complaint is the instructions only show how to install in struts, 2003 jeep grand cherokee front shocks are not inside the struts, also should show how to hold the shock to install the top nut.

I have had years of auto repair so it was easy to figure out how to install therm, direct my grandson how to install them.

I Would recommend providing a list of which jeeps come with up country suspension and which ones do not. I Couldn’t find anything about it in the car manual from my research there is very little about this topic on the internet.

I eventually found one website that had the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo freedom edition specs telling me it did come with up country suspension.

Shipping was faster than expected by 2 days! These Skyjacker Black Max look very slick on my 1990 Ford Bronco. The work very well too and were easy to install with a little pre-planning! After I figured out how to put the rubber grommet and the roll pin in using a rubber mallet and bench vise, they all went in very smoothly.

On my Bronco, I didn’t need the roll pin for the upper bolt because the bolt/stud on the frame was made to fit snugly in the grommet of the shock without a roll pin. There were no instructions in the box but it was easy to figure out.

I mounted my shocks with the boot up to help keep any water, mud, or dirt off the piston. The best thing about these shocks is they don’t automatically push out like gas filled shocks and can be pulled in or out easily to get the right length for installation.

Really impressed. Made to match vehicle. Removed KYB Gas shocks from my 2500 Silverado. (Felt like riding on a bouncy ball. ) Installed SkyJacker MAX on all 4. wow. I hit a dip in the road and it absorbed the shock, didn’t cushion it.

Truck doesn’t wander about the lane like before, and when the wind is blowing if feels like your behind a wall not an umbrella. Truck handles terrain like a Baja truck and doesn’t bounce. (Ever drop a quality RC car/truck from a foot high with oil filled shocks onto the table?), same thing squats and rebounds without wheel hop! Went to SkyJacker website to find vehicle spec.

model. Then ordered here (Best Price!) The valving inside the shocks are per vehicle and not all pressurized per length. Pay the extra five to ten bucks per wheel and drive what you wish you’d have gotten!.

I bought these rear shocks to complement the Bilsteins that I had already put up front. They are great, although we do minimal off-roading. Fast delivery. Very happy with them and I will get them next time I need shocks.

Original factory part was a better build part. Aftermarket part was flimsy and not welded completely around shock base for strength. painted and not powder coated for rust protection.

Instructions good, appearance good other than that horrible yellow they paint stuff. 🙂 removal in my 06 jeep commander takes some finesse due to the lower clevis bolt, but the bushings are available to replace in the LCA so the cut off wheel wrench was imperative.

Install very easy. Would be a max 60 minute job each if they don’t have rusted bolts. Ride is superb, will buy again. Shipped promptly.

The Bilstein name is synonymous with quality in house built units not sourced to an outside company. My experience with them is they are indeed a high quality item that lasts a long time when properly installed.

So with a good quality product my only choice came down to the company that would supply them to me. Summit is top notch with fast delivery and competitive pricing. Overall I am very impressed with both the product and the seller.

I bought Bilstein because of this was supposed to be a Quality product. When I got it part whas missing from the body of the strut. When you get parts from mail order you have to be able to trust that Quality control of the company that makes the product is good.

This is something that should have been visual to a person that knows the product so this tells me that there is no Quality Control. I will buy something else next time!.

Fit and finish on the shocks is great. Still haven’t gone off-road with them but looking forward to tuning them in when I do. Note on install. the paint on the shock makes the top bolt very hard to thread, so do a trial run before you install.

Also, the shock boot is designed to cover the rod after the shock is extended. For that reason, it is easier to extend the shock, put on the boot, and then install the shock. Usually I install the compressed shock and then let it extend to install the other side.

With these two things considered, should be an easy install.

Got these to replace completely wore out ones and now the jeep rides PERFECT. The balance between how the front reacts to bumps and holes and how the rear reacts is so predictable and nearly identical.
