20 Best Shells For Goose Hunting (2023 Updated)

Purchased these this last summer when my size came back in stock. I am not a waterfowl hunter, rather I hunt mountain lion, bobcat and coyotes in the winter months along with guiding big game hunts throughout the fall.

I have always looked for a non insulated TOUGH waterproof pair of bibs. I have had several pairs that kind of work out and generally get one maybe two seasons out of them; decided to give these a try.

As far as tough, these things are amazing. The materials used can withstand any kind of brush and abuse. The fit is awesome. I am 6’3″ and the tall size is great. The integrated knee pads are a great idea.

These bibs are by far my new favorite piece of gear and without a doubt would purchase these again.

As always, Avery has produced a quality product. The only negative is that they really should indicate in their advertising that the goose decoy is either a form of the Lesser Canadian or Greater Canadian.

Most hunters want plain descriptions and dont really take the time to bring out a tape and measure. Math may not be our strong point so just TELL us. Lesser or Greater!!.

For the price these are good decoys. They are hollow, not full body but the texture, color, and head look pretty good. I set them up and carried them around and handled them pretty thoroughly and they are holding up good.

Next time I’m going to get silohoutes to diversify my spread. otherwise I’d be buying these a second time!.

shipping was OK. It’s is my first set of decoys ever. When i open the box, one was split on 1 to 2 inch. and 2 other was missing paint just under the neck. I’ve phone cabela’s and they told me to send email, so do I.

But after almost 1 one, no news. But for all the rest it look like ok.

About 2-3 years ago I purchased 48 AXF fully flocked full body goose decoys in various poses ( Sentrys, Walkers and Feeders) also 48 AXP painted full body goose decoys in the same poses. (96 in total).

Decoys were treated carefully, and the internal tubes that are in the goose that the retractable bases go into either wore out or broke. About 45 decoys in total. Spent $$$$$ thousands $$$$$$$ of dollars on these decoys, and am stuck with that many decoys that are broke.

I’ve contacted Avian X numerous times by email and no response. Called by phone and they said some would contact me and no return call. Products are so-so and CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. Also own 2 avian x a frame blinds and over 100 avian x duck decoys $$$$$$.

WOULD NOT RECOMMENDTO ANYONE!!! Because of customer service.

These are great shells. Durable and very realistic. Only drawback and reason for a 4 is that it’s almost impossible to insert the heads as they come. I used a step drill to remove material between the “clothes pin” legs allowing the legs to flex better.

Seems to have solved the problem. Probably voided any warranty but I really love the realistic look so wouldn’t be returning them anyway. Had a shot goose fall right next to one and the colors were spot on.

i just used these for the first time today and they were exactly what we needed. we have 18 avians in our current set up and they look great but these provide the same look with a great motion stake feature.

incredibly nice and easy to put out in the field. stakes are made of a composite material and can safely be pounded into hard ground. they are a little long for normal field use in hard ground but they’re perfect for soft ground, snow cover, and placing on the waters edge in a pond and work well when mixed with floaters.

one man can strap the bag over the shoulder and set them out or pack them up. like others say, the bag could use some work. the slots are made of the same material as a re-useable grocery bag but the outer part is a little thicker but still not what i would call extremely durable.

yes the bag can also fall over easily but when i put the tails of the decoys down in each corner it keeps the bag stable. overall these are a great addition to a spread and we will be buying more of these over regular avians because of their value.

i would also recommend these to someone starting out that needs some great decoys to make their spread pop.

I purchased the Avian X Lesser Canada goose decoys in order to have a variety of head styles since my spread of Avian X honker floaters all have tall, upright heads which doesn’t look natural. The Avian X floaters have excellent paint and look great.

The one thing that I don’t like is that the line adjustment notch at the front of the keel doesn’t hold the plastic decoy line at the depth you have set it once a little wind comes up. The line easily slips out of the notch.

I put 16 feet of plastic line on all my floaters because I hunt in a variety of depths and need to adjust the depth of the line. I have had to attach a black plastic snap swivel to the front of each keel so that I can adjust the depth.

It is unfortunate that an adequate line adjustment notch is not built into each Avian X goose floater.

Got 4 pack today, I thought the mallards look good, these are amazing. Got lessers for portability just to accent duck spreads. Fits in long 12 slot bag by making it a 6 slot. The last 2 years I purchased 2.

5 dz top flights, 1. 5 dz full body mallards and these. I will get a 4 pack a year for awhile. I wish they sold the lesser full body per 6, I would definitely invest in those too.

I received this bag as a Christmas gift and was skeptical. I was wrong. I am able to hold a full box and fill the loops with shells. It also holds my beanie, gloves, facemasks, and compact binoculars.

Added bonus, the front pouch is perfect for holding the Little Debbie essentials.

Has all kinds of zippers and small areas for license/stamps. Extra securing buckles if you’re feeling untrusting if the zipper. Loops on the outside for the quickie shells but more than enough room in the main compartment for boxes of em too.

I just purchased 2 dozen of these decoys additional to the mallard, pintail, black duck and blue bill from avian. And those are 5 stars wish I could say the same for the canvasbacks. Not sure what is happening with the canvasbacks in particular at the factory but paint chipped mostly on the heads of the drakes prior to opening the box is a little ridiculous.

I mean it’s not a huge deal in terms of the effectiveness with the ducks themselves. But for me paying $ for something I expect them to look mint out of the box like the other species. I have another 6 pack on order I’ll be exchanging for the bluebills.

Other than that a really nice large realistic and light weight decoy I don’t doubt they’ll work great even still.

So i had purchased these decoys a while back, a little over a season ago. I’ve not had them in any sort of protective bags and they have been showing minimal amount of wear. The only thing i can complain about is the bills on any Avian X decoys.

No matter if its my Avian x mallards, teal, pintails, widgeon or red heads they all tend to show a small amount of wear in the bills. But lets be honest, the ducks won’t have a chance to see that when you’re getting them to decoy with these decoys.

So far I’ve been pleased with Avians line of deeks but these are nothing like the photos. The photos look ultra realistic with great feather detail but what I received looks like they were dipped in jet black paint from the neck down.

Though I feel deceived I’m still going to run them. Fingers crossed.

I have had those decoys for over two years and I am surprised how well they deceive the geese. Their mouvement is very good with little or high winds. The flocked heads are very resistant, I was actually surprised they are still in excellent shape as I bang them around a lot.

I had a couple of decoys cracked (I was very rough with them). Higdon replaced them at no cost, they asked for pictures and were not at all argumentative. They have a very good customer service. The down side, they are very heavy.

It was definitely a 5 stars if they were lighter and had not cracked. I still love those decoys and their customer service would definitely convince me buy more, should I need more.

Box says fullsize. But opened them up and look to me more like lessers. Paint was chipped when i received them. They still look good but like i said, kind of small for “full size” but decent for the price.

This jacket is perfect for wearing over your waders. Its name is the Flooded Timber jacket but I use it almost every hunt. It is great to be able to put this jacket on early in the morning when setting up decoys and not have to worry about the bottom of it getting in the water.

The built-in face mask is awesome for those cold boat rides or when it is cold and nasty outside. The built-in Carbine Clip with Adjustable Tether and Storage Pouch is perfect for when you don’t need it and can hang it in a tree so it doesn’t get muddy.

I have worn this jacket during hunts where it rained and it held up great. Definitely recommend it to anyone!.

Feel like words will water down how great this coat is. unbelievably warm while keeping you dry,,, yes DRY!!!!. love the high pile sherpa for hands and hoodie is priceless, cant beat the gaiter that comes with it.

a duck hunters dream. Im 5’8″ 135lbs ordered the medium last season and realized id like a better fitted one for walks when not in waders in 10 degree weather so just ordered a small. the fabric is tough.

anything more and you’d be next to the fire falling asleep on a cold day at the camp lol. hope drake never gives this coat up and thank y’all for such a well thought of quality made coat. hated to drop $400 at first but caught this one on sale either way I would’ve never regretted paying full amount.

I bought it on clearance at a discount the ad said must purchase before X-date or while supply lasts. The catch was no returns. It fits great I was concerned I am a odd size and clothing is hard to buy that fits.

Their advertising is misleading you can buy the exact same products all year long for that price. For someone on a budget it is risky to buy something as expensive as they are and you can’t return them not even to exchange for different size.

I like the coat and bibs they seem to be well made and should keep me warm as advertised.

I got this call because of the good reviews. I couldn’t make good sounds with it and I now see that on my last hunt the guts fell out. I understand Zink won’t ship to canada so I have an expensive acrylic tube.

Looking into different brands. This is my 3rd zink goose call and I haven’t been happy. If Zink cares to read this I’d love to chat.

All of Fred’s calls are spot on. NBG is my first single reed call I’ve ever used, I always used a double reed in the 40 years of Waterfowl gunning. I love it, no sticking, no freeze up on bitter days.

A must have in your arnsenal.

Ive always used cheaper calls with the thought that it’s not the call it’s the caller that makes the difference. Boy my old school thoughts went out the door the minute I tried this call. Even for a beginner this call is almost foolproof.

The sound and ease of use blew (lol) me away. Cheap calls. I’ve always found myself blowing my lungs out and never achieving the satisfaction of a good sound. This call let’s you blow easy and work the birds.

Would highly recommend for any new hunter because of the ease of which this call works. Not to forget about how affordable it is.

I love these decoys ! Ive had a set of 6 for a while that I used to mix with other full body decoys and the longer I use them the more I find that the geese tend to fly in better with just the Avian AXF decoys.

So naturally I had to expand my Avian flock. Once you put these decoys next to any other brand you just simple will not choose anything else. Best decoys in my opinion!! Super excited to get the new flock out for opening day!!.

Easy to pack, look great, no shine, and easy to adjust stakes. You can use an 0 ring if your stakes act up which they can do. These are my go to decoys for honkers. They are excellent in the wind. A very impressive decoy for field hunting.

This was the first goose call I ever bought and probably the only one I’ll ever get! I learned how to call geese with it and it is very user friendly and even an advanced caller can get the most out of this call.

I am a very half decent caller with 10 yrs experience , and this is by far the lowest piece of junk you could erver put your hands on ! For beginners , try out a Canada hammer 2 , PRACTICE. Then move up a notch at a time.

Mine didnt even make it out of the truck onto my lanyard from the sportshop !.

Great item, just as described. My stubborn lab ignores geese in field, only retrieves ducks. Took her awhile to figure out how to pick up this goose dummy, now it’s her favorite thing to train on. Hopefully that means in the fall she will retrieve geese.

I ordered this dokken goose for my 2 labs, but mainly for my youngest pup Rio. I’m training him for ducks, geese, and cranes. Having looked everywhere locally, I google searched and found that Sportsman’s warehouse had one in stock.

It was shipped and arrived with no issues in a timely manner. The season is fast approaching and we’re getting lots of good training in with the new goose bumper.

Excellent training dummy. Same size and weight as a Pheasant. My setter was having trouble picking up and retrieving dead Pheasant. After a week of training her with this dummy she has figured it out.

now no issues with retrieving my birds. Shes now complete , points and retrieves all upland birds. I highly recommend this for retriever training.

Solid decoys. A must have for late season birds when there is snow on the ground for added realism. These are built very well and stack easily without getting the “curl” after repeated stacking. Great attention to detail on the paint and very durable.

Very durable! Heavy Duty plastic and the paint holds up awesome. They stack better than any other shell decoy we have ever used. The one piece design and molded head are great! No need to mess around with putting heads on.

I don’t own these decoys but i will soon. I hunted over these in kansas the past two years and they are awesome. They are very durable and stack easily. Its nothing to be a able to carry a dozen at a time.

Outstanding Decoy. We hunt over Big Foot full bodies, hundreds of them. We employ a few dozen sleepers to give the spread a realistic look. We have Final Approach sleepers, Dakota sleepers and have trashed the old Higdon sleepers.

These B2’s are among the best, excellent paint scheme, stackable and the shell is thick enough that there is no wind issue due to the heavy construction of the decoy. Super buy!.

I have been using about 10 dozen of these for several years and am disappointed about the durability of them, the paint degrades after stacking them. The flocked heads seem to hold their color ok. I just don’t think they are as tough as their full body cousins.

The price makes them attractive but I will spend the money and buy more expensive ones in the future.

I bought a few dozen sleepers to add numbers and they look great, stack great, heads are permanently attached and big foot tough. I then bought 1/2 dozen of the active heads and they are tough but you will have to take heads off and on.

Personally I will buy more of the sleepers for there ease of stacking.

These decoys are good looking, have good detail, a great paint job and I am looking forward to using them this fall. The only drawback was the heads and bodies required a large amount of cutting and filing to get them to fit.

They are not something you can take straight out of the box and use them. I would hate to try to fit them together again in the dark out in the field. I am going to leave the heads on and take them to the field that way.

If they were not on sale I would have taken them back.

Purchased these with high expectations and was disappointed with the fit and finish. Had to carve out the head openings. The male bodies were literally stuck together and the paint came off taking them apart.

Also on the male bodies the plastic around the head opening was thin and deformed, thought they might break when trying to install the heads.

Bought these when they went on sale, already had a dozen of them. For the price and they small amount of space they take up, they are defs worth it. Have had the the first dozen for 5 years and get hunted with 20+ times a season.

The heads are a little tough at first but wear in quickly.

For size comparison, I am 6’4″, 200#, 38-40 waist and 37″ sleeve length. I ordered a 3XL and it fits exactly the way I like. I do not like tight fitting garments where I feel restricted. I could have gotten by with an XXL, but I need room underneath for base layers.

My everyday living elevation in Colorado is at 8,000′ to 10,000′ elevation. I may need two or three base layers depending on the weather that day. I carry my Kutana Storm Jacket all through the year just in case.

It provides great protection against the blustery wind and snow. I liked my Gunmetal color so much that I purchased this new Ash color. It looks great. I don’t hunt, however I spend a lot of time out in the elements in harsh terrain.

This jacket does what I want it to do, it keeps me dry and warm (in the winter) and protection from summertime rain and graupel. The ripstop fabric is definitely a plus. I have been purchasing KUIU products for many years.

It’s good stuff that works.

Bought this jacket for upland hunting and got to test it out last weekend when we hunted in the rain. The jacket performed perfectly and kept me dry as you would expect. It moves very well while hunting and was very comfortable to shoot in as well.

Breathabilty was great and I never felt overheated even though we were working pretty hard through some thick grouse cover. The fabric also held up very well going through that same cover so I was very impressed all the way around.

No surprise with a KUIU product.

The Stratus jacket and pant are solid. Excellent wind protection. Doesn’t get too cold where I hunt so I’ve only been down to the 40’s and with a couple layers they were warm. If you plan on walking through cockleburs or similar expect to get a lot of hitchhikers.

The material these are made from allow a lot of prickly things to stick to it. I am 5’10” and 160lbs and normally wear a 31 or 32″ pant in jeans and ordered a medium. They are just on the edge of being too tight but I think a large would’ve been too big.

I initially ordered a large jacket and it fit but had a lot of excess room in the waist and chest so I ordered a medium and it fits perfect. If you want a loose fit, I would order a large. My only complaint with all Sitka jackets is that they don’t come down far enough in the front below the waist.

Not a deal breaker but I’d like an extra inch in the front.
