20 Best Shell For Dove Hunting (2023 Updated)

I wish I could give more stars. The Sherpa fleece is so warm yet not bulky. There is plenty of flexibility in the Guardian Flex so you don’t feel restricted when shouldering on a flock of birds. We spent 5 days in NW Mississippi Jan.

23-28, 2022 with temps in the teens for lows and very high winds. I never felt the wind cutting through the outer fabrics and the Sherpa helped keep me warm. That’s why I also have this Bottomland Quarter Zip MST Guardian Flex as well.

Purchased the non camouflage fleece hoodie. Do go with a size smaller if your the type to like a tight fit. Not a bother to me as I would wear underlaying clothes underneath. All around great hoodie.

Plenty of warmth, pockets. Would wear it out in the woods, water and even on the town. 10/10 recommend to add to your collection.

A unique model and a super smooth and accurate handgun. It comes ready to go with factory night sights and 3 magazines (2 19rnd and 1 17rnd). Balance is excellent and seems to shoot better than either a G17 or G19.

Very similar to a G45 except for the color and lanyard ring. Be aware that the bottom grip has a slight front tab extending down which prevents Gen5 magazines from being used unless you swap out the magazine floorplate for a shorter one.

Gen1-Gen5 magazines will all work fine. Cool gun.

The 19x is a great gun that meets the needs of many applications. It has the Glock reliability that you would expect and the Gen 5 upgrades are a nice addition to an already stellar track record. The reason for 4 stars is the finish.

Although it looks great and is very nice it can scratch and mark fairly easily. I would have liked it to be a little more resistant to use. Overall a great gun.

I own both, same gun. Cosmetically there are 2 things the 19X has that are different. 1. The night sights. 2. There is a loop hole on the bottom of the handle for what I haven’t figured out yet, a drop chain or para cord?.

Let me just say that I did not but this for dove hunting. I actually bought this because I have a beagle whom I spend outside with most of the day and I needed something very light weight that I could carry around all her gear in and this vest is perfect.

Treats, poop bags, the back compartment is perfect for a couple of toys, a water bottle and a place to store her leash when we are in fenced areas. I have a Redhead hunting jacket that has lasted me for years so I was confident the quality would hold up to my expectations and it does.

This is a decent vest for the money. It’s pretty simple. Decent pockets that could be more cargo style. Nice enough game pouch. Zippers and snaps are sound. No padding for shooting.

Son and I needed an upland vest for early season quail in NC. This worked great and can use for doves as well. Sizes true. No complaints.

This is a great jacket. I used it last waterfowl season. Very durable, warm and waterproof. The coldest day was minus 10 degrees with heavy sleet and snow. I combined the Refuge 3. 0 Wading Jacket with the MST Sherpa Fleece Hybrid Liner Vest and a Fleece Pullover 2.

0 shirt for layers and never got cold or wet. My hunting partners, in other gear, were wet and cold by mid-day. I was dry, warm and comfortable all day. I had a 1/4 zip Refuge Eqwader pull over to add as another layer in the blind bag, but never needed it.

The jacket is organized efficiently, with large cargo pockets on the outside and fleece lined hand warmer pockets with zipper closure above. The upper Magnattach pockets with zipper pockets underneath on both sides of the main zipper are great for storing cell phone, keys, decoy remote controls and other quick access items securely and out of the weather.

There are two internal vertical velcro secured pockets on the interior left side for extra calls, or warming frozen calls. I wish there was a large internal velcro pocket on the right side, but regardless there are ample pockets to store your items.

The outside cargo pockets are not as robust as an older Drake jacket I had with spring loaded shell pockets, and might be a little light to hold a full box of shells. But I carry the Shoulder Bag 2. 0 with it’s external shell holders for use in the blind or boat, and only carry 3-4 shells in the cargo pocket for when I am caught outside the blind with ducks coming in.

If you are planning on some serious hunting in cold, bad weather, get one of these and combine it with one of Drake’s layering options (vest or pullover) for comfort and warmth in all weather conditions.

Excellent fit and functional design from number of pockets and placement to great head coverage with hood. Very comfortable and warm without restricting movement. I combined it with an LST Guardian Flex Double Down Eqwader 1/4 Zip and stay warm and comfortable in cold, wet weather.

I am a 75 year old duck hunter and staying warm and dry is more important every year. I also found these items to be an exceptional value compared to other premium brands.

Haven’t had a chance to wear it in hunting conditions yet, but it seems like a well made jacket. I have non typical hunting gear for deer hunting and that is nice! So I assume I will be happy with the refuge 3.

0 waterfowl jacket. If it’s warm and keeps me dry and lasts!.

I love this jacket. So light so warm! It does not have a super durable outer however I have worn it for over a year in all kinds of situations and it has no rips or tears. It has slim sleeves and is somewhat short to fit as an excellent under layer in a goretex (I have the Stormfront Jacket ) shell for a waterproof warm and versatile setup.

I wear this at night around camp as it is super comfortable. This jacket is not for busting brush, hiking, stalking, this jacket is great to throw in your pack hike to the top of the mountain and throw on and glass comfortably and have the patience from being comfortable to look in every nook and cranny.

If you use it as such you will fall in love with the eight to warmth ratio.

great coat for layering seems to be good water/weather proofing. I love the fleeced lining and I have been looking for a nice outer coat that doesn’t have a hood and isn’t overly bulking. I like all the pockets and the magnet seal call pockets.

this is a waterfowler coat designed by waterfowlers! Best part was on sale so got it for a great price. I have purchased other tops and pants as well as decoy bags from Drake and everything has been top quality and you can’t beat their sale prices.

overall I like the jacket, there were some things I did not like but not bad enough to return. the shell is nice, probably runs a shade small, if I was ordering again I would get next size up to be able to wear more underneath.

the magnetic closings on pockets allow rain to run into them, not all the pockets but this is sort of annoying. I like the weight of the jacket overall and it was waterproof in the two times I wore it in the rain.

the liner jacket has very narrow sleeves/cuffs, I am going to take mine to a alteration shop and see if they can do anything with it. I am a bit over my high school graduation weight but a 5’9″, 190 Im not something that an Xl should be small for.

Haven’t used it yet but I wanted a wind proof and water proof full zip that’s not bulky. It’s comfortable and fits as Drake jackets normally fit. Not as quiet as I was hoping but that’s hard to get with water proof clothing.

I think it’s going to be my go to hunting jacket.

I bought this based on prior Browning Pheasants Forever clothing purchases. I ordered an XL so I would have room for extra layers of clothing beneath the jacket. What arrived was more like a Large size which fit very snug and was extremely heavy.

Also, stitching was poor quality. I will not buy again.

Very nice quality jacket. Plenty on Pockets and room for game. Very comfortable, full range of motion with arms, easy to pull up shotgun. Plenty of orange for visability. I am 5’10 ” and 230#, the 2XL is a little big, sweatshirt fits under it comfortably for colder days, but still not bad fit with just t-shirt on.

I’ve owned this jacket for a few years and have used it on a few occasions hunting. Typically shorter duration rain events, but nothing with sustained rains. I did an adventure race over Memorial Day weekend and the forecast looked like a lot of rain/wet snow.

I left my ultralight rain gear behind with this forecast and grabbed my Dewpoint jacket and pants instead. I feel I’m much better able to give a thorough review now. On day three of the event, it rained pretty straight for 14 hours, sometimes pouring.

This is fighting through blowdown, fording creeks and rivers and about half the day on snow. The Dewpoint set performed beyond my expectations. I was worried about snagging the jacket and pants crawling through blowdown, but came away without a scratch.

While I was wet when fording streams (often to my thighs) I stayed warm and the pants did dry quickly. My torso remained warm and dry the entire time. The Dewpoint system works!.

My whole hunting system is Sitka Gear and has been for years. I have always thought it was as close to bulletproof as I was going to get. I hope this was just a fluke. I wore the Dew Point Jacket a total of 3 times for maybe 8 total hours.

The whole front inside seam came apart leaving me a giant hole in the front of my jacket. Now I am waiting on a warranty replacement which takes between 4-8 weeks. I am out scouting elk right now and hunting season starts in less than a month.

I HAVE to have rain gear in my pack so now I will have to buy an additional jacket to have until my replacement comes. This jacket should last longer than 3 outings.

Cannot speak to the durability of this garment since haven’t used it in the field as of yet. However in terms of construction, material weight and overall fit would deem this a good value. The color and graphics are first-rate.

I purchased the jacket and pants primarily for coyote hunting on snow covered Wisconsin tundra. The pants and jacket aren’t insulated. They are intended to go over your insulating layers. As such, the sizes run a bit large to accommodate your layers.

For example, I’m 6’2″, 260lbs. I usually wear 2xl jackets and coats and large pants. I purchased XL pants and jacket. They fit over my hunting bibs and coat just fine. In fact they are a little long.

The jacket has Velcro closures rather than a zipper. The jacket hood and the waist of the pants contain elastic cord for adjustment. The cuffs of the pants also have Velcro to snug them up to your boots.

The pair are made of a soft polyester fabric. Should be quiet but not durable enough for low crawling through thickets. Both were on sale when I bought them. I would feel cheated If I had paid full price.

I’m disappointed in the changes to this jacket over the years. I’m writing this review to try and impact the direction that future Jetstream iterations take. As a hunting guide, I’ve owned Jetstreams going back to 2013.

Back then, the Jetstream was a sturdy piece of technical outerwear. I’ve really beaten on my 2013 & 2014 Jetstreams, in hard weather and hunting conditions, and they’ve taken it all without failure. I purchased a 2022 Jetstream – I hate to say that the recycled outer poly fabric is more like a simple hard fleece sweatshirt (think UnderArmour, Nike, etc).

There’s just no way I can see this version standing up to hard use. It’s still marketed and cut like outerwear; it feels like the material would be better suited to a mid- layering piece. The cuffs are honestly at least 1-2″ too big and there’s no way to tighten them.

I can’t keep the cuff on my wrist (you could save on gloves by wearing it over your hands). To me, this feels like a jacket design that saves on production & materials to aid Sitka’s race to being ubiquitous.

In the early days they were the best gear – now they seem like they’re aiming to be the ‘available everywhere’ gear. I understand the market strategy – there’s just no way the 2022 Jetstream is worth the high asking price.

Please bring back a burly version of this jacket; bring back a more durable outer material. Hunters and guides will be waiting for the Jetstream to return.

I ordered the Parka in an XL, I have owned several Artic Shield products and the quality is always fantastic. However, this particular Parka and Bibs run small. I had to send both back and get the 2XL to fit.

With that being said, the quality is very good and they are very warm. Make certain and pay close attention to the sizing chart. I also found the same products cheaper on other sites after ordering.

This parka will not keep you warm or comfortable below 40-45 degrees, unless you pack a lot of very warm layers under it! The heat reflective technology sounds nice, but just doesn’t work! Worst hunting clothing purchase that I have made and I purchased It on sale! I wish that it was returnable!.

Bought this parka to go with the bibs I have had for three seasons. Perfect match. The parka is quiet, lightweight, and warm! I am 6’1″ 280 lbs and the fit is dead on. Sleeve length and body length are perfect with just enough room to layer if needed and still allow freedom of movement to draw your bow.

Been bowhunting 35+ years and this is by far the best cold weather parka I have used! Highly recommend this parka.

I had high hopes for this jacket based on my research on the brand. Very disappointed, first time out wearing (only 5th time since new) pheasant beating on a rainy day in south Scotland. Within 15mins the material had become saturated.

There was no real rain repellent/beading barrier that kept moisture from penetrating the soft shell layer. I even ensured all external pocket zips were fully closed etc. as it was a damp day. I was wearing a berghaus fleece coat layer underneath.

Water was coming in that much I had to keep wringing out the sleeves of the fleece I was wearing underneath. Surely this jacket is defective? You can’t claim for the jacket to be waterproof and it performs like that? Nearly all the other people in the party were wearing equivalent/similar Ridgeline & Harkila brand jackets on out in the same conditions.

My Seeland jacket performed the worst by far. Now getting home some 4 hours later, the jacket is still saturated. Having to be dried out inside dripping on a towel. All others kept wearing their jackets which quickly dried out in the wind when the rain stopped.

My Seeland ‘ waterproof’ couldn’t dry as it became like a sponge. I had to borrow a mates Ridgeline jacket to survive the day. Don’t waste your money.

Comfortable and resisted the rain. Good pockets and I like to good with adjustable peak. Soft shell and quite to move around in so overall very impressed. I’m not sure how it’s going to last as it’s still New and I’m a little concerned about when it meets some brambles.
