20 Best Shampoo For Oily Fine Thin Hair (2023 Updated)

I love this shampoo. I have fine medium length virgin hair (no color or treatments) that sometimes feels limp and lifeless. I wash my hair two, sometimes three, days a week. With this, my hair always feels clean, full and bouncy.

I was surprised when my hair noticeably felt and looked thicker after washing and drying. Doesn’t dry out my scalp or ends. I absolutely love the smell – slightly masculine and cologne-like that isn’t overbearing.

I agree with other reviews – the packaging feels like a struggle at times because the plastic is stiff and it’s hard to get product out, especially once it starts to run low. Regardless, I keep repurchasing and would absolutely recommend to others.

Nothing, and I mean nothing has ever helped with the (thin) hair volume on top of my oily head. I had zero hopes yet my jaw dropped upon first use. I’m telling you, it’s some kind of sorcery. What’s best, the effect stays for two days.

TWO DAYS! After that, my scalp gets oily/dirty, but, hey, the volume is still there. This plus the Ouai Wave Spray is the killer combo I’ve been looking for my long thin hair for the last fifteen years.

I am simply in awe! Never before have I heard or seen this brand. I bought the shampoo purely because of the rave reviews, so thanks so much to everyone who took the time to leave a review. It’s great they offer three sizes.

I started with the travel size which was actually larger than I expected. Just 20 ml less than my previously usual La Roche Posay. The travel size lasted for almost a whole month, and I wash my hair three times a week (double shampoo each time).

The medium bottle lasts for around two to three months. I’m on my third medium bottle, and I’m so happy to say that effect hasn’t faded off, that the shampoo hasn’t stopped working like it happens with so many products if I use them continuously.

I’m super stoked they brought out a jumbo version! Bravo, Sachajuan! Bravo!.

This a very great shampoo for kids hair, virgin hair or men’s hair. It can be used on daily basis. It has a very mild fragrance which is great. Not for overly processed or damanged hair as the name says it all.

Little bit pricier than the drugstore shampoos.

Love this shampoo. I recently had a hair dye reaction (ears peeling since April to present – it is September) so I am looking for healthier products to use in my day to day life (again). Love the smell of this shampoo.

It smells like anise hysop – licorice. I used some of the other products but since I grew up with foaming shampoo it is hard to get rid of that need. This one meets that foamy shampoo need. One thing at a time, I guess.

Wish it came in larger sizes and wish it was a tad less expensive. I feel like I am taking care of myself by using this product. Thanks for being one of the caring companies.

I received this in the January BeautyFix and used it for about two weeks before finishing up the sample. I was surprised how it left my hair almost too squeaky clean considering it doesn’t have sulfates.

So definitely a good clarifying shampoo but if you’re needing more moisture I wouldn’t recommend it. I really enjoyed the fresh scent. I didn’t notice a difference as far as volume. As far as recommending it would depend what one was looking for-I personally would want the shampoo to do more for my hair than this did for the price, but I did like the scent and impressed with the cleansing ability minus sulfates.

I have fine flat hair that leans more towards the oily side and wanted to try a shampoo that would provide more volume to the roots. I thought this shampoo was going to address my issues but it left my hair feeling sort of sticky and tangled? Idk how that happened but I did not like the feeling.

I am not giving it one star because it did lather up really well and help with the reduction of oil in my scalp but ultimately did not provide the volume this product claimed to do.

I was really having trouble with my hair recently, and after trying countless drug store hair products with not much success, I decided to try a really expensive line from London (after reading all kinds of testimonials, seeing the many awards given, and reading about the products).

I thought it would be the answer to my hair troubles. I started with their “perfect” shampoo & conditioner, but each day my hair was harder to detangle. Then I tried to wash every other day per their suggestion, using their dry shampoo on the off days.

It did not help the dryness (the ends were parched) and somehow my scalp was oily on top of it. Each day, I felt like I had a new issue, but that there was always a new product to handle it. By the end, I was putting so many different products in my hair – more than anytime in my life, I really had to take a step back.

I have oily hair, but each product I tried, in this uber-expensive brand, was just not moisturizing enough. My hair got drier and drier and harder to style. And I have oily hair and scalp!! Looking at myself in the mirror was starting to get depressing, my hair just looked awful.

I was actually losing sleep thinking about what was happening to my hair. I couldn’t even run my fingers through my normally slippery hair. When I tried brushing out the product and got nowhere after 10 minutes, I decided to try Nexxus Hydra-Light shampoo and conditioner the next day.

After one wash, my hair was back to normal using just these 2 products. Now, I’m a Nexxus convert and won’t use anything else – I hope they never discontinue this line!.

I tried this shampoo looking for product that would add volume to my fine/medium density hair and because I heard great things. This shampoo made my hair feel like straw after; it was incredibly staticky, dull, and had absolutely no volume.

I followed up with the conditioner, and it felt like I hadn’t put conditioner in my hair at all. After doing some research, I found out why: This shampoo contains sodium laureth sulfate or sulfate. It is extremely drying and strips your hair of natural oils; however, the effects of sulfate can be negated with a conditioner that uses silicone (a synthetic oil that is bad for the environment as it does not break down).

The matching conditioner does not have silicone to recoat your hair, leaving it dry and brittle from the damaging effects of the shampoo. Ideally, you don’t want sulfate or silicone in your hair. I don’t know why this line would tote not having silicone but then still use sulfate.

It’s just setting your hair up for damage. I thought I would add what I found for anyone considering using this line, especially if you have sensitive scalp/hair. I believe nexxus does have some sulfate free shampoos.

I have very fine, thin, straight hair and products often make them look oily and dirty. I have found myself using the hydra light deep sea minerals shampoo every other day now! It feels light and it rinses out of my hair so easily.

You can feel the softness and difference as you are rinsing. I have noticed my hair is easier to brush and I have less breakage. I love that it doesn’t leave nasty build up in my fine, thin hair. I have gotten so many compliments on my hair lately!.

This shampoo has such a fresh, yummy, hibiscus, vanilla, mixed with a splash of lavender flower extract, and peppermint scent. I enjoyed the fact that the scent is not overpowering with the peppermint as most products with it, don’t irritate my eyes.

I like the simple packaging and the product comes out nicely, never too much. It does not take that much product to form a lavish lather (I used a size a nickel of the shampoo). I notice after one week how my scalp’s dryness has improved.

My scalp is left feeling so clean and I used it on my wigs, which help make the highlights and color pop more than I first colored them. Fewer tangles, instant body, noticeable shine, and luster without drying out the hair.

The shampoo is made non-toxic and free of synthetic chemicals. This shampoo really does do the trick of removing the dirt and build-up from my scalp and hair, leaving my ‘do look so fresh and so clean (in the words of Outkast).

I started using the Neuma brand upon recommendation from my hair stylist. Originally I purchased it directly from her salon. I loved the way it cleansed my hair and left it smooth and silky. I was excited to see Ulta carrying this brand.

However, when I began using it, I noticed a big difference in the consistency and formulation of the shampoo. The bottle from Ulta left my hair greasy and it didn’t clean my hair the way it should have.

I recently went back to my hair stylist and mentioned the difference to her. She commented that another one of her customers had experienced the same thing after buying the Neuma brand from Ulta. I attached a picture to show the difference in formulation.

The top sample on my hand is the original salon formula and the bottom sample is what was purchased from Ulta.

It works great, but the fragrance is overpowering. For reference, I use Innersense Organics shampoo, which has a light citrusy scent. I bought this to clarify and it does a fantastic job, but it smells overwhelmingly like men’s cologne and is so heavily fragranced that even after conditioning, styling, and going about my daily life for a couple of days, I could still smell it on my hair.

I like nice scents but this one is way too strong! Many reviewers like it so maybe I got a bad batch or something, but it’s sad because it performs wonderfully!.

I’ve had this set about a week. So far I like it. I typically only buy salon brands and was looking to try something at a lower price point they won’t wreck my hair. I used Herbal Essences in high school and was Sean toward this line.

The shampoo suds up well. The conditioner gives good slip and allows me to finger comb through. I followed with styling products by Curlsmith and Ouidad. My hair feels light and soft after drying. I have 3a/3b type curly hair that is long and stating to turn white.

I am pleased with this set and would recommend.

They said lightweight, and lightweight it is. I think I used a little over half the bottle for one wash (mind you my hair is dense and waist length). A fairly decent detangler and leave-in, but doesn’t hold a candle to the Aloe Treat (can’t begin to say how much I miss that line.

). I can try the leave-in for the Pure Clean line, but I already have my doubts based on those reviews. At the very least I still have the Papaya Treat w/Amla. Otherwise I’d have to move on from Garnier completely.

They miss the mark so often for my hair type. Oh well it was a good try. and I think this would a great line to use on vacation. Apart from that, this won’t be a repurchase.

The name is slightly miss leading saying it’s “pure” clean. Which leads me to think “clean” as in organic. While it does have less chemicals it’s not “clean”. It does clean hair really well and smells delicious.

It gives a great lather with a little tiny bit. BUT when I ran out of it and couldn’t find it in stock I had to pick a different shampoo and that’s when I found that the flyaways I had battled seem to be be coming from this shampoo.

I even w went back to it to test the theory and it definitely was the shampoo. It did keep my hair healthy without split ends but it made it dry and obviously flyaways were an issue.

I cannot tell you how many products I’ve tried that make promises and I cannot tell you how many products I bought hoping that the promises would work. And they didn’t! But I have to say this product WOW works! I have been so impressed, my hair was thinning out quickly and I started using the shampoo and conditioner and the hairspray and the product to make my hair fuller and I really love it! My hair has a sheen to it End it doesn’t change the gray white hair I have in fact it makes it look better! I am going to try some more products including the Product that makes your hair shine! All I can say is this is truly a winner in my book!.

I’ve already gone through my second bottle of the Supernatural Curl Hydration and I LOVE it. It actually does what it claims to do. Even the second day my hair holds it’s curls. And they’re so soft. No crunch here lol.

If you have naturally curly hair you’ll love this product. Just give it a try and you’ll be happy you did 😊.

This shampoo is supposed to help a greasy scalp and dry ends. This left a film all over my hair even after I spent ages rinsing. It actually made my hair look thin and lank. Not impressed sadly.

I got a free sample of this shampoo with my order and after one use I noticed my hair was so much more shiny and soft than it’s ever been. Would buy and recommend to anyone who has dry or damaged ends!.

I bought the travel size on Detox Market and love it!! After one wash my hair looked like it’d been washed in a salon (seriously). I have very fine oil prone hair that I have, over years, finally worked down to washing only twice a week using by using natural shampoos and dry shampoo.

and who are we kidding, by putting up with gross oily hair on off days. The EWG certified product I was using from Whole Foods just never got my air really clean though (I’d notice oil the same day even though I section my air and run vigorously).

I wanted an upgrade and this is it! Yes it doesn’t lather but none of the non-toxic products do, you get used to it. I combined this with the Nourish conditioner because my ends are dry and damaged and it leaves my hair much much softer and more conditioned than the other natural stuff that just seems to disappear.

After I add conditioner I put my air in a bun and exfoliate/shave to give it a few minutes to really soak it. Like most of the other Josh Rosebrook products I’ve tried these are amazing – other favorites include the nightly vital skin balm which is so heavenly and moisturizing, and the daily tinted moisturizer SPF 32 which I use religiously.

I’m going to create an account and start buying them through this site directly (will cut into my Credo points but they don’t offer discounts on Josh Rosebrook anyway and hopefully the rewards here will pay off!).

I am totally that person who has seasonal shampoo/conditioner needs. In the winter I rock some organic baby shampoo that is a dream, but in the summer I need some more oomph, both in cleansing and hydration.

This has a nice scent, a little tingle, and after the recommended 3min sit, I was squeaky clean but not overly tight or dry. Perfect to follow with some light conditioner at my ends. I bought a sample amount to try, and my only negative so far is that it is very easy to accidentally squeeze too much from the little bottle—it’s pretty thin plastic, which is great!, but it’s also a pretty thin formulation.

I learned quick to hold it more horizontal than upside down when dispensing. I think I’ll be able to get two weeks of 3-4x a week shampoo sessions out of this bottle; I have long and thick, but very fine hair, much lighter at the ends from the sun.

I bought this w/ the nourishing conditioner & these 2 products together are seriously a dream! I needed something more natural to try & combat against my alopecia & I was worried my hair wouldn’t feel as clean with such simple ingredients but it honestly lathers so just as much, if not more than any other normal shampoo I’ve used.

My hair feels squeaky clean afterwards without all the damaging chemicals & fragrances, I couldn’t be more pleased. I’ll 100% be sticking w/ this shampoo for as long as I continue to have hair lol fingers crossed for me please!😂.

After only two weeks I can feel the difference! Less breakage, less dry strands flying around aimlessly.

I started using this product at 5 months postpartum after experiencing significant hair loss around the 3 & 4 month mark. I waited until I was done breastfeeding as I am not sure if it is breastfeeding friendly so that is the only thing I would look into further.

It made my hair grow back so quickly, I started noticing a difference around the month mark after using it. I use it in combination with the conditioner and the Potentialiste serum. I also switched to using a microfiber towel to dry my hair, the Pomme brush (obsessed) and the Pomme hair scrubby.

Now if we could only figure out how to make baby hairs in the front look less scary LOL.

I have tried lots of shampoo & conditioner brands for dry and damaged hair from the supermarket. I knew this range was good from previous recommendations but always thought it was too expensive. I then looked at the amount of products bought at a few pounds each all cluttering up the bathroom and not being used as I didn’t find they worked for me.

So basically a waste of money so using one of the brilliant Lookfantastic discount offers bought this shampoo and matching conditioner. After one wash and condition my hair was far softer, less flyaways when dry and after letting my hair air dry, even didn’t feel the need to straighten hair as my hair didn’t look as puffy and frizzy.

I will now only buy this brand and product range as finally realised constantly buying lots more cheaper brands to try and achieve better conditioned hair is just a false economy not to mention all the extra plastic bottles being purchased.

I absolutely love this shampoo, it really powers through my scalp and helps to control how oily my hair gets without feeling dry or as if it’s stripped everything. On top of that, it smells incredible, and honestly it smells so sweet, its like bubblegum with some herby undertones.

The big problem is it cannot wash my hair on its own. I have medium, just past shoulder length hair and this almost does not lather up at all. The last few times ive bought soap, I’ve gotten lushes shampoo bars, which are great, and make so much foam, so it was disappointing going to this.

The only way to clean all of my hair without using an entire handful is to first use another shampoo bar, that way it actually can get put into a lather and cover my hair and scalp. I’ve also noticed another review saying it seems to have increased hairfall and I can honestly agree with that, I noticed a lot more of my hair falls out than usual when i use this soap, specially in the shower.

It’s also impossible to use the bottle due to the chunks in the shampoos clogging it off, I just unscrew the top. I want to love this shampoo but it’s a little hard. I bought the smallest size and I don’t think I’d get it in the future unless they reworked it to lather more and it didn’t increase hairfall.

It’s scent. I really liked it’s scent, as even though it contained Wasabi Concoction, Epsom Salts, Hand Harvested Sea Salt, Fresh Horseradish, Organic Agave Syrup, Fresh Wasabi, Caffeine Powder, Sicilian Lemon Oil, Rose Oil, Organic Sweet Orange Oil, Fresh Lemon Juice, Menthol Crystals, Gardenia Extract, and Fair Trade Olive Oil, I thought that it had a very deep and fruity yet ever so slightly medicinal citrus scent to it that kind of reminded me of if they had blended their Prince Charming Shower Cream with a Bottle of Cough Syrup.

It’s consistency. I really liked it’s consistency, as even though it was called a Shampoo, I thought that it felt incredibly thin and watery, and was more like a thin and watery Facial Serum rather than a thin and watery yet ever so slightly balmy Shampoo.

What it did when I used it. I really liked what this did when I used it, as once I had started to massage a little bit of it into my Hair, it turned from a thin and watery Facial Serum into a thin and creamy yet ever so slightly frothy Shampoo that spread really easily through my Hair.

I also really liked that as I was massaging it into my Hair, that it started to create a really nice yet ever so slightly strangely satisfying tingling sensation that lasted for quite a long time. It’s results.

I really liked it’s results, as not only did this leave my Hair feeling incredibly squeaky clean, silky soft, smooth, volumised and intensely hydrated, but it also left it looking much shinier and healthier for at least two or three days after I had used it.

It’s packaging. I really liked it’s packaging, as this came in a tall cylindrical Plastic Bottle with a clickable Lid that looked beautiful sat on my Beauty Shelves. My overall thoughts. Overall I would have to rate the Wasabi Sham Kui Shampoo an eight point five out of ten.

really liked the Lush Wasabi Sham Kui Shampoo, as I absolutely loved it’s deep and fruity yet ever so slightly medicinal citrus scent, it’s consistency, what it did when I used it, it’s results, and it’s packaging, but I just thought that it was a little bitt strange that I was using Wasabi in my Hair as it’s not something that you would usually find in a Shampoo.

– Leaves hair SQUEAKY clean; REALLY CONTROLS OIL LEVELS – Tingling isn’t strong enough to bother you the whole day and actually makes you refreshed after the shower; smells like skittles, but doesn’t last the whole day – Above average hair fall in the shower = maybe it’s too strong for my head Ok, so I’m a guy with a lot of fine, straight, and oily hair and also have an alopecia spot.

I have to shampoo my medium length hair every 2-3 days. This shampoo REALLY cleans your hair and you can hear the squeakiness of the “squaky clean” after you hop out the shower haha. It also controlled my hair oil and even when shampooing on the 3rd day, my hair never crunched together as it did before.

So regular use (regular for me is 2-3 days), you notice your hair doesn’t get oily much as it did before. The lather is pretty meh and you need an average amount of get it working; be careful of not letting it in your eyes cause it can burn a little.

The only reason I’m giving this 3 stars and not 5 is cause I noticed more hairfall when using this shampoo compared to every other shampoo that I have used. My scalp isn’t sensitive to anything and after shampooing with this, it becomes very dry and tangly at the ends.

My test for “if a shampoo has cleansed but not dried my hair” is to run my fingers through it and see if it’s stopped at any moment by the hair’s dryness. The Rehab shampoo passed this test and my fingers ran straight through it.

This shampoo didn’t tho and it might have overcleaned my hair and made it really dry. Which is what you kinda expect in a oil-controlling shampoo, but this feels a little too strong. Heck, if you made this the clarifying shampoo and Rehab a normal shampoo, I wouldn’t notice the difference.

Bottom line = great for anyone who’s looking to control oily hair, but just be careful to use it every 2-3 weeks and not as a daily runner. If you have REALLY oily hair like you have to wash it everyday, then give this a go and you won’t be disappointed.

I love this conditioner so much. It’s the literal best I’ve ever found. Smells wonderful (peppermint) and is so light and good that my hair just loves it. BUT. I have had three bottles break on me. THREE!! Because the top nozzle Is just too delicate.

The first one worked but just barely and I would have to squeeze and hold for like 45 full seconds to get a quarter size amount (I have very long thick hair). The second bottle wouldn’t work at all and I had to throw away the whole thing.

The third one the top broke so I ripped the top off an old bottle and I’m able to kind of manage to get the product out that way. What is the PURPOSE of this nonsense packaging?.

This was the first Amika conditioner I tried, and I have to say it was a little unexpected. First, the smell is quite strong. It’s very *menthol* which isn’t bad, it’s just a lot. It does provide a cooling sensation, but you have to be careful to not get any on skin other than your scalp.

On my scalp it feels refreshing, but I happened to get some on my upper forehead, and the sensation was much more intense, and actually burned slightly. It does still condition my hair well, I just have to be more careful with my application.

I don’t think that this is a product I would use for every shower, but I would definitely keep it as part of my routine. The color is mostly just white, with a hint of some light pink, but the texture, however, is quite unique; like a dense, creamy foam, just without bubbles.

It’s for sure not like anything else I’ve used. Overall, this conditioner has a solid place in my self-care routine, and I would recommend- especially if your scalp needs a little extra love every now and then.
