20 Best Shampoo For Coloured Hair (2023 Updated)

I love this shampoo. It’s a favorite and I’ve used it for years, even when I don’t color my hair. I also love the flexibility that the travel-size containers gave me in pre-Covid times. They’re great for using at the gym or on the road.

HOWEVER, I’m really frustrated with the packaging of this product and other Aveda products in the 1. 7-ounce reusable bottles. In this product and others in the same type of bottle, a horizontal crack eventually develops in the screw-on lid, parallel to where the top of the bottle meets the lid.

I first discovered the problem when the inside of my travel bag was coated with shampoo that had seeped from this bottle. Ick. After the first occurrence of the crack developing in the lid I repurchased the product.

I thought I had bad luck with one particular bottle. Turns out, though, that the same problem developed with multiple travel-size bottles I had purchased. I explained the problem at the Aveda salon where I purchased the products, and they said they weren’t able to give me replacement caps because they don’t stock inventory in that way.

I asked at another Aveda salon and heard the same explanation. It’s frustrating; I love Aveda shampoos and conditions. The Be Curly co-wash is another winner, but the cap on the 1. 7-ounce bottle developed a crack as well.

Ditto with Color Conserve’s travel-size conditioner. The refillable small bottles are versatile and perfect in many ways, but the design is flawed and I’m turning to other products.

Began using this after Aveda discontinued the Clove shampoo which I had used for decades alongside occasional use of other Aveda shampoos. I’d even used this before without problems but it seems they’ve changed the formula, or maybe when I was using it regularly it became worse but my head became very, very itchy and sore and my eyes began to swell up so it seems I’m allergic to the ingredients, something I never thought I’d say about an Aveda shampoo.

I see it has tocepherol in it, which I hadn’t expected or checked for as lots of people are allergic to this and Aveda are known for being not allergenic. I’m now thinking that I not only have to find another shampoo but another brand.

A great shame because I trusted Aveda all these years and was a loyal customer.

This is my new favourite shampoo. I have very fine hair that I regularly dye so I want a shampoo that will not weigh my hair down or lift the colour away. The product is very shiny and runny but lathers up very nicely and is not difficult to wash out.

(The actual scent is not my favourite but it is only very mild) I use this shampoo in conjunction with the Pureorology Hydrate Conditioner and my hair feels really soft and looks glossy. I love it.

I like the design of the Vitamino Color series very well, because I love pink anyway. The shampoo itself is also pink and smells deliciously fruity strawberry. It is really a big bottle of shampoo with plenty of content that lasts for a long time.

In addition, I have also observed that the time between two hair washes has become longer. But most of all, I am thrilled that I really feel that the color lasts longer. And not only that, it simply looks healthier, well-groomed and brighter! What I like less is that the function, application and use are written only in French and English.

I see this problematic for people who only speak German. In any case, I recommend this shampoo to all who have colored hair, it also does not have to be a blatant color, I for example dye at the moment ash blond, but did not want the shampoo for light blond, because I have neither bleached nor extremely blond hair.

My wish was granted; Dye AND Healthy Hair!!!.

The Vitamino Color Shampoo is pleasantly liquid, but not too liquid. You have to press the bottle relatively hard so that the shampoo comes out. The shampoo is very productive and has a good consistency to distribute it in the hair.

It is pink in color and smells wonderfully of strawberry. I find the smell of the product to be very pleasant; it lingers very lightly in the hair, and after a while I almost don’t notice it anymore.

I am a fan of the shampoo and also the rest of the care series. My hair looks very healthy, strong and hardly gets split ends or frizz. The hair ends look healthier and stronger. I finds great that the color effectively lasts a little longer.

My hair looks healthier, well-groomed and brighter after a few uses! I definitely recommend this shampoo to anyone who has colored and damaged hair.

Great for fine color treated hair. This shampoo smells divine and feels luxurious in my hair. My ends tend to be dry from coloring every 8 weeks. With most hair care combos I can not skip the conditioner but I have with Minu.

Amazingly, I could still comb my hair without snagging and my hair felt soft. I have used the conditioner without feeling like my fine hair was laying flat. This photos is without additional products or styling my typical lung unruly fine hair.

I love this stuff. I like the conditioner more because I find the shampoo a little drying but as long as you follow with the minu conditioner it’s not an issue. The smell is divine and I’ve had several house guests who have used it in my shower GO OFF about how great it is.

I’ve gotten so many compliments on how soft my hair is since Ive been using this.

This is my all time favorite shampoo. I use very little product even though I have long thick hair. The scent is clean and not overwhelming compared to other hairproducts. It helps to preserve coloring.

This is definitely worth the money.

i didn’t like this shampoo the first 2 times i tried it because of the top two complaints: greasy roots and hair feels tangled after shampooing in the shower grease: this is to be expected with an acidic shampoo.

chemically, it just cannot remove as much oil as a conventional alkaline or neutral pH shampoo. my shortish fringe bangs would be noticeably greasy by the second day, and i prefer to shampoo my hair every 3-4 days.

i just shampoo only my bangs a second time in the shower and bam, no more greasy bangs. over time, my scalp has adjusted and the only time my bangs are noticeably greasy by day 2 is after trimming them shorter.

tangled: in the shower, immediately post-shampoo, my hair feels a little tangled, but that’s what conditioner is for. once my hair is conditioned and dry, it’s soft, shiny, bouncy, and the natural wave is very defined.

i do not use any other products or heat style my hair. i dye the top, or outermost, layer of my hair with demi-permanent dark brown dye and the under layer is bleached and dyed teal/green with arctic fox dye.

this acidic shampoo does a great job keeping the cuticle closed and preventing color fading of both dyes. it makes the bleached and dyed hair soft, even the ends. if you want to preserve your hair color, lengthen the time between dye touch-ups, and also enhance your natural wave or curl, give this shampoo more than just 1-2 tries before you write it off.

so i never really write reviews, but i want to warn others about this product. in the beginning i loved this shampoo and it left my hair feeling very clean while also keeping it soft. i colored my hair in September 2021 and used this since.

while it kept the color great with touch ups in between it is now June 2022 and i have noticed major hair loss. i am now showering and having clumps of hair fall out of my head to then brushing my hair after the shower and the same thing happening.

this is unusual for me. the prior months i noticed some hair loss but it now has gotten even worse. i just switched to Pantene Sulfate Free and am hoping it fixes this problem and allows my hair to grow back.

don’t waste your time on Redken anymore because their products are expensive and cause more harm than good!!!.

I’ve been using this product thinking I have upgraded from Tresemme to a salon product that was safe for my color treated hair. However, even after changing to redkin, I would see my soap suds turn a deep purple blue color and it would wash out my toner and fade my color dramatically in just the one wash.

My hairdresser and I kept blaming my hair from being over treated but even after several deep conditioning treatments, it still would completely wash out again in the first wash and I only wash my hair once a week.

I was about to reorder when I decided to read other reviews and seeing other reviews mention the same colored suds and color fade, I am relieved that all I have to do is buy something different to Redkin.

I will never trust a redkin product again. I keep looking online for its ingredients because it HAS to have something that strips hair.

Pictured- Before – unwashed and a hot mess lol First Wash- followed directions on bottles and saw some brightening. Has a nice perfume scent to it. Second “wash” – I will sometimes do this test with purple shampoos/conditioners to see how strong they are.

I applied the shampoo to my DRY hair and left it on for 5-10 mins. I rinsed it out and then applied the conditioner and left on for 5-10mins. Usually with a strong purple shampoo I will see a drastic lightening with some purple tones in it.

It lightened my hair however wasn’t the drastic change that I would expect from applying to dry hair. Overall: Pros – Nice scent Will help remove unwanted brass tones and lighten Cons- Not on the safer side for ingredients so I would not recommend for constant use While Redken / L’Oréal try to be free of animal testing for the most part, they do still “have” to animal test where required by law.

Meaning, they sell their products on mainland China where it is the law for cosmetics to be tested on animals prior to use. For me personally, the price point is too high for the result. I have received better results from more affordable purple shampoos that have safer ingredients and no animal testing I will be using these products occasionally when I need to brighten a little but won’t be purchasing in the future.

I read so many reviews that it’s messy etc and it’s a waste. Um, I purchased the travel sizes just incase it was a fail. I read the instructions and took advice from my hair stylist which was similar to the instructions and tbh it works for my hair.

I only use it once a week and I purchased the conditioner as well and use only a nickel size and it is enough for my entire hair. Yes your hands go blue but it goes away in the shower and no it did not stain my tub, my water was blue but it went clear so I figured okay it’s good.

I have blue free hands/skin and no stains in my tub. I use the cranberry color extend shampoo and conditioner during the week as well when I used my blue toning products during the week. Seriously am in love with my hair.

It isn’t frizzy and my waves are so nice I have gotten compliments lately and I’ve been doing this routine for over three weeks now. It’s soft and my hair really is long and thick. I hope this review helps someone and I use a small amount of almond oil in my scalp to moisture because it can dry your scalp a bit if your scalp is sensitive like mine because I love me some Selsun blue in my hair!!!! i haven’t used any though because it really has not given me any big issues due to applying some almond oil on my scalp (massage a little bit.

I really loved these products! I was very pleasantly surprised how much I loved the shampoo and conditioner. I have very thick, long dirty blond hair and this shampoo and conditioner really cleaned my hair and left it soft and smooth.

The color of the shampoo is a stunning deep purple and smells amazing. The conditioner is a lighter lavender color and also smells incredible. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who has blond hair that they want to protect.

I think the price point of the product is reasonable for such a good product that really makes your hair shine. I also liked the size of the bottles. They are a perfect size for a shower. They aren’t too big or too small.

You don’t need to use a lot of product to get clean and soft hair. The bottles lasted a few weeks which is standard for me. I would definitely use this shampoo and conditioner again.

I received it as a gift, complimentary from Color Wow. I’ve been using Color WOW for a couple of years now. I was looking for a shampoo that would allow me to keep my color vibrant and would allow me to go a couple of days without shampooing.

This product did that! I wash my hair twice a week and I probably could go longer. Looks great at the end of three days without washing. When I first starting using WOW the first week, I had to do a rinse and repeat, due to low lather.

Once I got the amount down & all the other products that I had been using were out my hair its been one wash & go. I just do my scalp with WOW & I do a good conditioner & Argan oil on ends of hair & blow dry.

I haven’t tried their other products so cannot comment. But you won’t regret trying Color WOW Shampoo!.

I bought this shampoo and matching conditioner after reading all the good reviews on their website. I also own some of their other products, which are ok, but nothing special, especially, not for the price.

This shampoo is possibly the worst shampoo I have ever used in my entire life! Absolutely stripped my thick, natural hair and made it look and feel like straw. No amount of conditioner and leave in conditioner was able to fix it.

It was an expensive mistake, put me off the brand completely. Much prefer the Moroccanoil brand or ColorProof, which unfortunately is no longer available in the UK.

Cleans well, only lathers a tiny bit, and smells like melon. Doesn’t leave a residue. Not overly hydrating for bleached and/or colour treated hair. I can go 2-4 days without washing my hair. It does take some of the colour out of my red hair, more than other colour safe shampoos I’ve used while having bright red hair.

If you need a lot of moisture from your hair products, this ain’t the shampoo for you. If you have fine hair you’ll likely like this. Maybe it’s just not for my hair type (medium 2b/2c hair). Probably won’t repurchase it, at least not while I’m sporting a vibrant hair colour.

I will say that I like the conditioner of this line more than the shampoo.

I purchased this color safe shampoo based on the recommendations on beauty professionals in my area, and also because I am a big fan of Oribe products. I started using Oribe products when I went to a salon that used Oribe and pretty much all the products that I’ve used I have liked.

I purchased this particular shampoo because I get highlights, and I wanted to prolong the life of my color gloss. I am a fan of Oribe and have other Oribe shampoos to compare it with, and I sometimes mix it with the Oribe Moisture and Control Shampoo in the green bottle and the Oribe Gold Lust Shampoo in the black and white bottle.

I think that this shampoo for color treated hair is best for prolonging color, and I have noticed that my glaze has lasted a bit longer than when using other shampoos. I personally prefer the moisture and hydration from the other two shampoos that I mentioned compared to this shampoo, but I do like the shampoo a lot.

I do feel that the Moisture and Control Shampoo does provide a lot of moisture and hydration, I have that masque too and love it. The Oribe Gold Lust is good for damaged hair or when trying to prevent split ends.

The shampoo for the blonde hair is also a great shampoo, which a hairstylist used on me for years and I recommended to a family member. I think Oribe products are excellent and I have been pleased with most Oribe products that I purchased.

I recently switched to using this shampoo and other Oribe shampoos from the Olaplex shampoo and it is definitely worth the extra money! The products are a little expensive, although they are the best quality of any other beauty products which I have purchased.

The products are vegan and cruelty free. I will re-purchase this product again in the future!.

I have been using Oribe Magnificent Volume shampoo for years, and have raved about it to everyone. I have fine hair and it has been the best volumizing shampoo that I have ever tried. When Oribe had their once a year sale a few weeks ago, , I ordered a Liter of what I thought was my favorite shampoo! I had accidentally ordered Beautiful Color.

I actually have colored my hair with blonde highlights for years, but I have always felt it was better to concentrate on the volume than the color. I had already opened the Liter, and filled my empty Magnificent Volume with the new shampoo that I hadn’t realized was the wrong one because the color of the bottles are very similar.

I was very unhappy because the products are expensive, and for the first time I invested in a Liter which will last a very longer time. I used the color shampoo, and must say my hair came out very nicely after two washings.

I expected my hair to be flat, but it definitely has volume. I was expecting to have to give the liter away, but it appears to be working well. I also have used volumizing conditioner, Gold Lust conditioner, maximista and volumista styling sprays.

The only product that I’ve tried that was absolutely the wrong product for fine hair was the sample I chose when I ordered the Liter was Royal Blowout for heat styling. It made my hair completely flat and looked greasy right after I washed my hair.

At first I thought it the the new Beautiful Color shampoo, but I realized it was Royal Blowout. I usually take the advice of my stylists for the best products for fine hair, which is how I learned about Oribe, but I ordered the sample of the Royal Blowout on my own, not knowing it would not be good for my hair.

Overall, as I have done for years, I highly recommend Oribe, it’s a wonderful company!!.

I used this shampoo for years along with the matching conditioner. Although pricey it is hands down the best shampoo for colored hair. My hair is dark brunette naturally and I went totally blonde in my early 30s for about 5/6 years, had root color ever 6 weeks w/ complimentary highlights throughout as needed.

My hair was certainly processed but this shampoo along with the conditioner kept my blonde bright and beautiful – it’s not a purple shampoo specifically for blonde, I think this would work wonders on any color treated hair.

My hair was never dry or dull and always manageable. I had little to no damage/split ends/breakage, I give credit to my stylist for being a master colorist but also for using this shampoo and oribe’s entire product line.

Huge fan. Well worth the price – a little goes a long way. Buy it you won’t regret it. Also my hair is normal, not thick or fine – it left to dry without styling it has a slight wave to it. I don’t find this shampoo to weigh my hair down.

I couldn’t disagree more with these other reviews. This shampoo and conditioner is absolutely amazing. I cannot fathom how they came up with a formula that both enriches with conditioning without leaving any kind of heavy weight behind.

I have curly, oily hair and have to wash every day. This shampoo and conditioner is gentle without being weak. I can’t believe how “light” my poufy hair feels! I never knew my hair could be like this, curly, light, and fabulous.

And the smell is fantastic. I’m a customer for life.

If you fry your hair like I foolishly did by bleaching it at home this conditioner will come to your rescue! Don’t panic just buy this product it leaves my damaged hair so silky and soft. I tried so many other high end costly conditioners and mask and nothing compares to this.

I don’t understand why people are complaining about the price. A little goes a long way and as far as high end goes this is cheap. I have been loyal to Kenra Platinum and Redken products the last several years. Wanting to find a cheaper option but I was timid to take the plunge. I bought this set on a whim. Let me tell you, this product is as good as the top price items, for half the cost.

I have fine hair and it left it super soft but still manageable. It has a nice delicant scent. Don’t second guess this product. Buy it and you will be surprisingly satisfied as I was, at half the cost of other brands!.

I have been dying my hair since I was 15/16 and tried every colour shampoo on the market, I also tend to have quite oily roots and need to wash my hair every other day. I dye my hair quite a vibrant red, so I can notice quite obviously when it fades, I will say since using this my colour vibrancy has absolutely lasted longer and it feels good knowing I’m not washing it down the drain.

after washing your hair feels so clean and lush and silky, it’s lovely! The problem for me is the next day, you could honestly fry and egg with the grease in my hair, it’s ridiculous. It certainly does the job when it comes to protecting colour, but absolutely stay away if you’ve oily tendencies.

I bought this as I couldn’t find my normal shampoo anywhere in the UK. Normally I would only wash my hair every 3 days, and could leave it 4 if I wanted to. With this shampoo, my hair became greasy after just 1 day.

I also developed sore bumps on my scalp after around a week of use. I ended up spending a lot of money to order my normal shampoo online from abroad, and in the meantime I’ve had to use my sister’s shampoo for non coloured hair.

Since using her shampoo I am back to washing my hair every 3 days and the bumps on my scalp are healing. I have never had problems like this with a shampoo before. It’s also a really inconvenient consistency, it’s like jelly.

I’m always buying and trying new shampoos and have tried a ton of brands, from cheap and expensive salon only ones, however they never deliver what they claim and go straight in the bin usually more then half full.

This one however is still l going strong on my bathroom shelf as I have found it really performs well, pros being it doesn’t contain sls however lathers really well, has a pleasant smell and leaves my hair feeling clean with no sticky residue.

I haven’t tried the accompanying conditioner yet but I intend to re purchase both. I hope they don’t discontinue it!.

I have been using Kerastase for a few years, honestly I do like the products but I lost the “oomph” I used to get from their products. They smell amazing and make my hair soft. But besides that, it was still frizzy, splitting and dry.

I recently switched and have had better results with new shampoo. Someone once told me it’s good to alternate shampoos, not sure how much truth there is to that but maybe that’s what happened.

I debated over this shampoo amongst others for a while and I really wish I hadn’t bothered I definetly made the wrong choice! For the price of this product I was expecting a whole lot more not miracles as such but much more than I got I mean it didn’t really do anything except make my hair dull and my scalp itchy.

I also ordered the conditioning mask to go alongside this shampoo and again this appeared to do not much at all either infact I actually felt these products made my hair worse than ever, however with that being said I probably should have checked the ingredients list before purchasing as it’s not great so I take some responsibility for the outcome.

This one well washes hair. Unfortunately, I didn’t wash my head every day, sometimes every other day, unfortunately I couldn’t wash less often, although I hoped until the last. After using hair really looked longer bright and shiny.

The manufacturer promised shine of dyed hair up to 40 days. Unfortunately, the color on my hair does not even last so much, but the fact that the hair retains depth and brightness of color longer is a fact.

For this is a plus. The quality of my hair has not changed, it remains in the form in which it was. Skin reaction – No discomfort was noticed. The only disadvantage is price – quite expensive 😌😌.

I bought this shampoo and conditioner for the reason that it’s sulfate-free, and ideally better for your hair. However, after several uses I have noticed that more hair is falling out than normal and it has left my hair feeling dry and limp.

My fiance even noticed the change in the texture of my hair without my mentioning of it. Normally, my hair has body and is soft and silky. I wish I could return it but I’ve already tried it out for almost a week in hopes that it would work for me.

I had my hair smoothed years ago with Goldwell Kerasilk. This came with it. It has been a few years. I don’t know if I will get my hair smoothed again (mainly because my scalp gets oily) but I have to say these products are great.

Not a fan of the smell of the shampoo but I used it anyway and always bought more. The conditioner is amazing. I have thick, long, wavy, bleach foiled, low porosity hair. Love Goldwell.

Because of the nature of my hair, it has a tendency to become tangled/knotted during shampooing. I have thin, fine hair, which is what this product is designed for. But this is a conditioner, not a creme rinse.

So I still need to spray a detangler on after towel drying. This product makes my hair look shiny and healthy, and it smells good. The only thing I don’t like is that the instructions say to leave it on for 2-3 minutes.

Even though my routine is to wash my hair first when stepping into the shower, it seems like a long time to keep the shower water running just so you can rinse it off when the time is up.

Paired with the Shampoo, this is one of the best products I have used. Even when exposed to the rain my hair was still looking frizz free, silky and shiny. The softest my damaged hair had ever looked and felt.

Highly recommended and will continue to use this product.

I’ve read many bad reviews on this product and was honestly scared to even try it. but I did and I’m glad I did I’m not sure if some people aren’t sure how to use sulfate free and silicone free shampoo buts it better for colored hair and I just recently got my hair colored so I thought I would give it a try !! A lot of people said this didn’t leave their hair feeling clean.

but for me it worked. When I use these types of shampoos and conditioners I wash my hair twice with the shampoo the first shampoo I think of as a pre wash getting most of the oils out and it doesn’t lather very well the first time the second time you will get a great lather and it will clean out the remaining oils and dirts from your hair!! I let the conditioner sit for about 3-5 mins that way it can soak in I also want to say I use cold water on my hair !! If you wash with shampoo twice and let the conditioner sit for a couple minutes you will achieve clean soft hair I am not a professional this is just what I do when I use sulfate free products and I honestly just like buying shampoo if you haven’t gave this a chance or have and It didn’t work I recommend try using this in these ways to achieve a good outcome!! I love this product and would repurchase it!!.
