20 Best Shampoo For African American Hair Growth (2023 Updated)

Seems to be working. I notice more hair everyday. I know my hair will take a little while to fill in due to alopecia but I do see a thick cloud of peach fuzz only need to use a little because lather is thick.

it smells great too. I will be ordering the conditioner soon.

I am 89 years old. I have always had fine blond hair, now I have fine gray hair. I have been using Biodin shampoo for al least a year now. My hair feels thicker and holds a style longer than it even has.

I have always had to get a perm every 3 to 4 months, since using Biotin I only have to get a body wave twice a year. I’m glad I started using Biodin shampoo Betty Lindberg.

(Think Garnier Fruictis, but more natural and delicious smelling) The scent lingers for days, so if you don’t like strong scented products maybe skip it, but I’d definitely risk it because it smells so friggin good.

😂 Anyway, it left my hair soft and moisturized. I can’t say for detangling ability, I have locs so I’m not interested in detangling them. 😅 But the way it made my hair feel “slippery” I imagine it would be great for curlies wanting a nice conditioner with a good amount of slip.

I will definitely purchase this product again. I’m current looking for a larger size at a decent price. Love it! 😃.

The product is an above average shampoo, but compare to other similar products I feel this a bit below quality of the other brands I have tried in past. Still is above average but probably would not buy again.

My wife watched a med size Wolf spider crawl through this sticky trap and out the other side. She had placed another brand trap next to it’s exit and the spider got stuck in the first two steps

Been using Dr. Squatch thicc briccs for almost a year now and wanted to upgrade my squatchyness so added the fresh falls hair care bundle and the wood barrel bourbon deodorant to my last subscription and I can’t believe I waited so long to try it ! Didn’t think the amount suggested would be enough to do the job but I was wrong.

The shampoo and the conditioner are great, leaves my hair soft with a great fragrance. I will be trying more of these fantastic products in the future. My advise to anyone thinking of trying the thicc bricks or hair care is to don’t wait so long to try em.

I’m sure the rest of Dr. Squatch’s products are just as good. Give ‘em a run through your shower and see what you’ve been missing ! I absolutely love the fresh falls shampoo and conditioner. It smells amazing and it keeps my hair soft and hydrated without feeling like I’m covered in oil so I don’t spend 10 minutes washing it off of my body like a greased bikini wrestler.

The only thing I would dispute is the consistency in the bar soaps recipes, I ordered the deep sea goats milk recently and saved a piece of one I Bought last year around Christmas time and they do not smell the same.

I will say It doesn’t smell bad but If I order a product once and love how it smells and feels and order it a second time I would like it to smell like it did the first time. I like to know what I’m buying as far as smell, if it becomes a mystery every order with no consistency it becomes less appealing to me personally.

Also when the last package I ordered arrived I did notice all of the bars of soap kinda had a similar scent to them not like same ingredients but like while they were curing or hardening or cooling they were all in the same room.

If that’s not the case then it’s just my sniffer playing tricks on me. And again this is not hate mail I love the products and love the company these are just my simple observations as a consumor. Also the spearmint basil soap gets another 5 stars.

I bought the Fresh Falls shampoo and conditioner in April. It has lasted FOUR MONTHS. If you follow the directions, and use the shampoo 3 to 4 times per week (using the conditioner daily as per directions; it is a bigger bottle than the shampoo for this purpose) you’ll find it is very economical for the quality.

Using it daily might be too drying for some hair types. Although my hair is dry, I continue to use this shampoo 3 to 4 times per week, because I love the scent, which is VERY long lasting, and it doesn’t dry out my scalp.

In fact, if you find in between shampoos that the scent is waning, all you have to do is wear a knit hat or scarf/ kerchief overnight, or even for a couple hours, and it’s as if you just shampooed once morning comes; my hair was as fresh as just washed, and smelled fresh and clean.

The conditioner is meant to be used daily and that is why it is a larger bottle. The sizes were just right for usage. For $3. 50 per month for a great shampoo with super long lasting scent, I’d say that’s good quality and value.

A little goes a long way; I didn’t understand reviews that said they had to use so much shampoo; I found a small amount does the job well.

Love JB products, but i don’t think this one’s meant for hair that’s already thick, so that’s a mistake on my part. i’d recommend on thinner hair types. my hair is thick and it actually caused my hair to shed more than normal, so i definitely wouldn’t recommend this for thicker hair types.

has a great smell though and the conditioner works well, but the shampoo isn’t for my hair type as i learned.

Years ago, Vidal Sassoon had a shampoo and conditioner my hair just loved. Every time I used it, my hair was nourished, soft, and moisturized. Unfortunately, Sasson sold his product line to one company and then another before his product line disappeared altogether from supermarket and drugstore shelves.

This was in the early 80s and I’ve been on the search for a similar product ever since. And believe me, I’ve used quite a variety, including Mane & Tail, Aussi, as well as Paul Mitchell and other salon brands.

I recently told my beautician about my dilemma, especially after ordering a Sassoon shampoo from Amazon. She quipped the product I used all those years ago was long gone. Since Sassoon’s line was sold to two different companies, the product since has been reformulated and that would include the online products bearing his name.

This would explain the online shampoo not being the same I remembered. Besides, she added, my hair isn’t the same as it was back then, so that’s another factor to consider. So, I resigned myself to never finding a similar product until I took a chance to try something new–Shea Moisture Black Jamaican Castor Oil shampoo and its conditioner counterpart.

After using the shampoo and conditioner, my hair was unbelievably soft and moisturized. It was as if I’d stepped back in time after discovering that perfect product for my hair. Please forgive the length of this review, but I just had to tell you how happy I am to finally find what I’ve been looking for after all this time.

I was in the process of growing my hair out after a hideous hair cut when I started using this shampoo & conditioner combo. I loved the ingredients and have heard and read all the great benefits of castor oil for scalp & hair.

I started using this combo in February of 2022. Straight away I noticed my hair softer & shinier so I kept using both shampoo & conditioner. I have naturally curly hair so I only wash twice a week, sometimes 3 depending on the condition of my scalp.

I started to notice after the first month of use, CLUMPS of hair falling out every time I’d wash my hair. At first I thought to myself ‘this is normal shedding because I’m using natural products’ which makes absolutely NO SENSE! I decided to switch up shampoo/conditioner & used a diff brand.

Since I stopped using the Shea Moisture Jamaican Castor Oil shampoo & conditioner, I have waayyyyy less hair loss when I wash my hair. My roommate didn’t want me throwing the bottles away so she started using the Shea Moisture Jamaican Castor Oil shampoo/conditioner and to her surprise she too complained of hair loss! I don’t know if the ingredients in the shampoo or conditioner were rancid but I will never purchase another Shea Moisture product again after that experience.

I believe the ingredients have changed since the birth of this shampoo & conditioner set. Either way it was a major fail for me.

The aroma of this product is something fabulously wonderful! The fragrance is sweet, perfumed, a little oriental, it remains a pleasant train on the hair, just magnificent! The shampoo has a thick consistency, foams well, with the feeling that there is a little oiliness in it.

Long, thick, of medium thickness. Healthy in length, previously colored. The scalp is of normal fat content, my hair is washed about once every 2-3 days. On the one hand, it is a wonderful, nourishing oil-rich, caring and regenerating shampoo that gives the hair an attractive, smooth, like a canvas, look, silkiness and shine.

On the other hand, the hair looks like this only on the first day, the next day you can see the greasiness of the roots.

Y’all I am telling you this product has changed my life. It’s great for your hair, skin and lightening scars. I use it as a cleanser every night by massaging gently into my face and then I take a CLEAN hot wash cloth and dab to remove the oil.

It’s a great way to prevent wrinkles (I use to have frown lines in between my eyebrows and they are completely gone now). I also have pretty oily skin, huge pores and horrible acne. This product has helped balance the oils in my face which in turn has greatly reduced the size of my pores and I rarely get acne.

I also bought this on amazon for under $15 and it has lasted me 6 months and I still have half a bottle left. I know it sounds weird to cleanse your face with oil when you have oily skin, but other cleansers strips the oils from your skin, causing you to produce even more oil.

Oil absorbs oil, which means this product effectively removes dirt and oil from the skin.

There is absolutely NO smell whatsoever which I suppose in this case is a good thing. I ordered this castor oil from Amazon because I read a review that a small application on your lashes at night will help keep them strong a full.

We will have to see if that works. This bottle is huge and may last me a lifetime so you certainly get a lot for your money. Last night a used a small amount on the back of my dogs to condition their skin after swimming in the ocean.

They seemed to like it a lot. I’m sure if it had a strong scent they would be miserable, but it seemed to calm them. Further updates as events warrant!.

I used Doo Gro in 2015 and 2016 when I had chemo. I had no hair at the time. I don’t think it made the hair grow any faster. but cleansing my head with the shampoo I was able to massage the scalp. The aroma was soothing.

When my hair came back in, the texture was so soft. It felt thicker. I have been having an issue of late where my hair has thinned. I started using the product again. It does make your hair feel thicker and strong.

This product helps immensely with dry itchy scalp! It also surprisingly helps with eczema flare ups by healing it with whatever chemicals this shampoo has. Highly recommend!

First the smell is good it’s citrus scented like lemon or grapefruit. It’s light weight a tad too light weight for me. It does give my hair beautiful curl definition to it’s natural pattern (I have very curly hair).

However that said it’s not for my hair texture. There’s very little moisture. The shampoo was very runny. The conditioner is medium thin and it takes ALOT for me to coat my hair (my hair is shoulder length to be fair) but the thinness of the conditioner is an issue too.

I don’t think I will be buying it again as I think I need something with more moisture for my hair type. It does feel good on my scalp though. I have 3c/4a hair. It cleanses good but left my hair dried out.

I have been using this castor oil for 4yrs now. I will not use anything else on my hair. My hair was falling out I had to wear fake ponytails to make it look like I had hair lol. I got my hair braided and bought this to try it out as an oil for my scalp while it was braided and when I tell you this is a miracle in a bottle believe me.

I hope they never change the formula because this is the bees knees of hair care. My hair not only grew, but the dry area in the middle of my scalp where I would want to pull my hair out by the follicles because it was so irritated, healed.

I immediately tried the conditioner as soon as I opened the box. My hair was in need of of immediate moisture. I applied it (along with an herbal oil) to the roots down to my brittle ends. The bouncy curls immediately came alive and had a great shine and tight curls as if they had been on rods.

My hair is in need of restoring. so the ends are still slightly brittle😕 I did get 75%-80% immediate results. I wish it came in a larger bottle (for less of course😉) I have thick & lots of hair and I will be able to utilize the bottle maybe 3 or 4 times b4 most of it is done.

It leaves my hair clean and not oily. One bad thing, which is not a bad thing. Our targets tend to always be out of stock. I t tu to by bundle so I don’t always have to try to look for it.

This shampoo is a NO for me. After 2 washes, I have residue buildup on my hair that has not washed out. The first time I used this shampoo, I clarified my hair and scalp with a baking soda/water mixture so my scalp and hair were free of residue before using this shampoo.

When I washed my hair, it felt like there was a film on my hair after the first wash. I used the complete Melanin hair care line along with this. I washed my hair a second time (the next week), and my hair feels like it has a film on it (after 2 washes and multiple plain water rinses).

My hair looks dull, feels very heavy, and my curls are limp. I am going to have to clarify my hair and go back to my other holy grail shampoos. I had high hopes for this shampoo because I have been following Naptural85 for years on YouTube and social media and love her hair tips.

However, this shampoo is a miss and I will be returning it for a refund.

I purchased the Melanin African Black Soap more than 8 months ago. I am 90% silver/gray, therefore very hesitant to use this shampoo. My silver hair stains very easily but I hate the purple shampoos almost as much as the yellow brassy hair.

This product has really healthy and nourishing ingredients so I really wanted to try it. I decided to use the shampoo and fix the stained hair later. To my biggest surprise it did not stain my hair at all.

It actually removed all the build- up and made my silver hair beautiful. I was surprised it didn’t stain because it is a dark color product. It will definitely be my #1 shampoo. No brassiness, stains or dryness at all.

This is the best result I ever had with a dark color product. 100% approved. My hair is combination 3c/4.

For anyone who is unaware, this is a clarifying shampoo, as all black soap shampoos are. Which means they can be drying, but this has moisturizing ingredients, in it to help keep the hair softened. If you follow the directions, you shouldn’t experience dryness or your hair being weighed down.

The nozzle is designed so that you can concentrate the shampoo on your scalp only. Once you scrub your scalp with it, you should be able to drag down the suds and rinse the rest of your hair. Sometimes I use it twice to make sure my scalp is extra clean and I use this 2x a month to get rid of build up.

If you use this with the conditioner, as directed, you will feel your hair soften up quickly after clarifying it. This is the only clarifying shampoo I use. In between uses, I just swap it out for my normal shampoo.
