20 Best Shampoo For 8 Week Old Puppy (2023 Updated)

I am the breeder behind Mini Goldendoodles of NY, and I have been on a personal mission to extend the Longevity of our dogs and puppies to the absolute farthest point nature will allow. Eliminating harmful toxins from their environment is a large part of that.

This shampoo is most comparable to the Dr. BRONNER’S castile soap that I use on myself. When I first washed my doodles with it, I noticed it didn’t have the slickness that other dog shampoos have (for us, those shampoos are not the standard, but to be avoided).

I have not purchased the apple cider conditioner YET, so I wound up using a spray conditioner for dogs after washing with the shampoo and they came out BEAUTIFULLY. Almost a week later my girls coats were still soft & nice smelling.

I highly recommend this product to my clients and this is NOT a paid review. I am so glad this company puts their ethics first, and I genuinely love their shampoo. I will be purchasing the apple cider conditioning rinse because in my opinion the shampoo must be used with a conditioner on doodle coats.

The lavender scent is wonderful. As a breeder I always look for lavender because it’s gentle and non irritating to puppies AND has a calming effect.

I’ve got 4 pups and 3/4 responded beautifully to 4Legger. Their skin was moisturised with less itching and their hair felt thicker and went curlier. I was worried that because I wasn’t applying a conditioner, that their hair would snap off because it felt quite coarse after rinsing, but as I dried them, their hair was lovely and soft.

They smell delicious, clean and fresh. It didn’t seem to be too strong for them scent wise. I love the quality of ingredients hence this being my second purchase. A little goes a long way; just add more water to their coat and watch the bubbles form.

My 1/4, scratched herself sillier than before, so left her out with this product. But after working even more on her gut and yeast issues, I’m happy to report the same results with her, but this has taken 12 months! I truly trust this site and whatever products they sell and think if something’s not working, I clearly have deeper health issues, so back to the drawing board as frustrating and as expensive that can be.

I live Australia which means exchange rates, international taxes and the dreaded shipping charges are bank breaking, but my dogs’ health means the world to me, so I persist and in this case, it was a shampoo which alerted me to just how compromised her health was.

Bella & Taz have had chronic external and internal yeast infections. All of the pharmaceuticals that the vets have given them work for a while but of course, have to be replenished as nothing works permanently.

Just one injection for Bella needed every 5 weeks is $100. 00, then add the medicated shampoo and the recommended twice a week baths, and don’t forget the tips for the groomer. I’m 70 years old and each dog weighs over 60 pounds, so you know I’m not picking them up, putting them in a tub, washing them all over, then trying to convince them they should stay in that tub with the lather on for 10 minutes!!! That’s why groomer.

So I went online plugged in natural ingredients for bathing dogs with yeasty skin. BOOM! After throwing away all the ads and reading through others that claim to be natural yet they’re not; I found Four Legger Oatmeal, Rosemary & Lavender.

Nothing that I couldn’t put on my skin or hair. smells wonderful, and everything in it will soothe their skin, combat yeast and the dandruff they developed as a result of being washed twice a week for years!!! Instant happy dogs after the first wash.

They smell like dogs and not a medicine bottle or day old bread! Not scratching. Just NORMAL dogs, Thank you Four Legger!!.

I finally found the best dog shampoo ever! I have 3 Afghans and one Great Pyrenees they are inside dogs only and they do get groomed professionally once a month. I was not pleased with the shampoo my groomers we’re using the sent was gone by the second day.

I started trying several ones and they just were not doing the job. Then this little miracle came up on Chewy, I read all the reviews that were positive and I even called customer service to get their opinion before I ordered.

I was going to order the gallon but decided on the smaller one just in case it did not work for my long hair dogs. I’m so impressed with this shampoo even my groomer was impressed. I can tell you this it’s been three weeks and when my babies walk by I can still smell that wonderful sent, it is not overwhelming just pleasing to your sense.

I diluted mine exactly what the directions called for after transferring to a larger bottle. I will be purchasing the gallon next you can’t go wrong with this amazing product. I would highly recommend.

And no in case your wondering I was not paid for my review, I’m just an animal lover like you.

I love love love this conditioner. The scent lasts for days! Makes my frenchies so soft. And the bottle lasts forever since I dilute it down before use. Won’t use anything else

This product seems expensive, but it really is one of those “you get what you pay for” type products. This shampoo is the only one that works on my Rottweilers. If I use any other shampoo they smell like sweaty backyard dogs within about two days.

This has kept the dogs smelling like Freshpet shampoo for three weeks, that’s when I first received it and used the shampoo, and they don’t need another bath yet! This product is one that works. Save up a little extra cash, invest in this product.

You will not be disappointed!.

I am a very small breeder of Yorkies, and over the years we have had some run-ins with skin conditions. This stuff is so convenient and easy to use and it doesn’t smell super strong like medication or chemicals.

I love the application method, and it made it so much easier to get full coverage on my pup than some of the thick medicated shampoos I have used in the past! Sometimes with other shampoos, it feels like it is so hard to spread the shampoo throughout my dog’s entire coat evenly or it is so thick it is impossible to rinse out of my Yorkie’s long coat.

Aside from being easy to use, the shampoo had a really nice lather compared to other medicated shampoos we have tried that lacked a rich foam. One downfall of this shampoo, is that even though it says it is medicated, it doesn’t have an antifungal medication like Ketoconazole or an antiseptic medication like Chlorhexidine in it.

I think labeling this shampoo as medicated could be somewhat misleading to a buyer, because I would expect that it had an actual medication component. As a buyer, when I buy a “medicated” shampoo, I would expect it to address skin conditions like ringworm and impetigo, and this shampoo isn’t suitable for those medical conditions, but is better suited for itchiness or minor infection from generalized dermatitis.

If this shampoo was labeled as itch-relieving shampoo, rather than medicated, I would have rated it much higher. I was very pleased with the reduction in itching I saw from my Anberlin that sometimes gets dermatitis from itching due to allergies, and she hasn’t had any skin breakouts since we started using it.

Overall this was a decent shampoo, but I don’t know that I’d purchase it in the future. My dog Kenzie is half husky so she has thicker fur around her neck/shoulders, and flank. She also suffers from really bad environmental allergies and has had incredibly dry skin lately.

Let me start by saying it was easy to apply and I enjoyed that it sprays on as a foam, so lathering or spot treating is a breeze. The fragrance itself wasn’t the best, though not horrible, honestly it reminded me of what I remember selsun blue smelling like.

Luckily the smell doesn’t linger and after her bath, she just smelled clean. I didn’t notice any significant difference in how quickly or easily I was able to rinse it from her coat. After just one use I can’t really say whether it helped her dry skin or not, and since we’re now getting into the winter months with less time rolling around outside, I won’t be bathing her as frequently as I do in the summer.

I didn’t notice any significant decrease in scratching, but I also didn’t notice any increase, so it’s hard to say for certain it helped with her itchy skin, but after one use it definitely didn’t hurt.

It’s now been about a week since I bathed her, and happily she still has that fresh after bath smell. Again, keep in mind she’s not running around outside as much as she does when it’s warm, so I can’t say for certain if that’s because of the shampoo or just because she’s inside more.

I’ll definitely keep it in rotation with the other shampoos I use.

This is a real tearless shampoo and if your doggo has allergies like mine does and gets sticky around his tear ducts, this is really gentle and keeps the area clean. Because of his Dameranian hybrid breed, he has sensitive skin too, but the shampoo seems to work fine.

A little of the clear, tear-free shampoo covered his body. I worked it around his eyes and muzzle, where he had a lot of fur, and he didn’t seem to mind. This shampoo is safe for delicate paw pads, so I worked it into those areas too, and he didn’t seem to respond to it any differently.

The scent was fresh and pleasant without being overwhelming. He didn’t mind the scent of the shampoo and, in fact, seemed to enjoy sneaking various sniffs of the shampoo bottle as my husband and I washed him.

I liked this tear-free shampoo because it felt like my dog was more comfortable while we used it on his fur. It did a great job of washing his fur while keeping his skin free of irritants; I could really tell that it was gentle on his skin because he did not have any adverse reactions.

I also feel secure using this shampoo as the John Paul Pet brand keeps our pet’s safety as a priority. When I read on the bottle that they tested it on human’s first I thought to myself this is really a sincere brand that cares deeply about our pets! So, I know this shampoo is safe and a healthy choice for my doggo.

It transformed his super coarse fur into a clean, shiny, and remarkably silky coat on the first use. It does a great job with cleaning his fur while keeping his skin free of irritants. My dog and I are super happy with it!.

John Paul pet oatmeal shampoo for sensitive skin formula for dogs and cats it moisturizes the dry skin and contains pure oatmeal, aloe vera gel and sweet almond oil. I was very impressed how well it moisturizes.

I was offered the opportunity to try out John Paul’s pet oatmeal shampoo which is perfect for my Shih Tzu at 7 pounds and has dry skin, for free for my honest opinion. It arrived quickly well packaged.

It has a very sweet oatmeal almond smell which is very pleasant it is clearish yellow in color number five. It does not lather up like some shampoos, but it does go on easily and rinses off very well.

He also dried off faster than his usual shampoo. I used the shampoo on my Shih Tzu it relieved any frizzy, Course hair. It seems to be heavy on his hair, as for the most arising, also I would like to add it easily allowed me to brush out knots while his hair was wet, super fabulous.

The John Paul pet oatmeal shampoo for sensitive skin formula for dogs and cats left his hair shiny and fluffy very soft with a pleasant smell. since it says tested on humans first, I gave it a go and washed my hair which is very thin and light and sometimes frizzy it was very heavy on my hair it relieved all frizziness but at the same time my scalp looking too oily, so from what I gather if I would just use it on the bottom half of my dry frizzy hair it would work perfect to relieve that issue.

I’d definitely recommend the John Paul Pet oatmeal shampoo my dog loved it, With no irritation and Super conditioned with just the shampoo very clean, shiny hair and looking beautiful.

I have tried many dog shampoo’s due to my two girls being itchy at times so I am a skeptic for new products. Oatmeal is what I buy as it is soothing to the coat and does seem to help with itching, I was happy to find a new oatmeal shampoo to try.

I noticed that my girl did not shy away and she did have a few red patches but this shampoo did not sting or bother them or her. I found it to lather pretty good not overly bubbly but just enough to feel effective in cleaning her coat.

JP Pet Shampoo is specially formulated to moisturize dry flaky, sensitive skin and it does that plus it contains Aloe Vera gel and sweet almond oil. The scent is very mild and not over powering I actually wish it had a little more almond scent to it but I was very impressed with how my dog did not have that wet dog smell after her bath.

After she was dry I kept smelling her fur and it smelled clean and neutral no doggy smell at all but a pleasant slight almond scent. My favorite thing is she dove under the covers and slept good all night after her bath with no scratching at least for the first night and I kept rubbing her fur it was very soft, silky and smooth I absolutely loved the feel of her fur after using this shampoo.

This is day two and she still has that wonderful soft, silky fur but she is back to itching some. Having dealt with allergies this l last year with my girl, shampoo’s can only do so much I am recommending this one because of what it does do and not as a cure but as a great soothing shampoo that does seem to help and I love that wonderful silky, soft fur she has after using this shampoo.

I have used this shampoo before on my great Pyrenees. My dogs are allowed to go into the dirt, lakes and streams so they do get wet dirty and stinky if you will. I love this shampoo because it doesn’t strip them of the natural or else when you to baste them a little more than usual.

I don’t like my dogs to stink, but I also don’t like them to smell like flowers that’s why I chose the natural scent free. It makes the coat naturally beautiful, shiny and healthy. Being biodegradable is just icing on the cake.

It’s lathers in smoothly and you do not need a lot they are for the price is well worth it. It also washes out easily and leaves no sud behind. Very pleased with this shampoo and other products of earth bath.

This conditioner & shampoo is wonderful and comes highly recommended. My Shiba Inu just came from a Puppy Mill as a RESCUED 7 year old breeding female. She was so dirty, oily, and smelly that it was nearly impossible to be in the same room with her! After her bath her coat color was vibrant, she was soft and smelled so nice.

[One thing I have to add: This product warns not to get it into the eyes of your pet. when my girl gave a good shake some got into my eyes! Ouch! Be careful with this. I used no tears baby shampoo for her head and near her eyes] I will use this product again and sing its praises to anyone who wants a good shampoo/conditioner for their dogs.

This shampoo is excellent for hairless cats – we use it to bathe our two Sphynxs. They came to us from a rescue that wasn’t comfortable washing them and had been wiping them down with coat wipes, but both cats desperately needed a full bath.

We were able to wet and then lather them and this shampoo dissolved 70-80% of the dirt and oils that had accumulated on them within 60-90 seconds. Each bath only took 3-4 minutes and both cats came away looking brand new.

Best part is there are no artificial fragrances and the ingredients are skin safe, so we aren’t worried about them licking themselves after bath time. Highly recommend if you need a quick, effective bath time product!.

I have a black lab and we love this shampoo. He spends a lot of time at the beach and in the salt water. I noticed his back legs were starting to get a red tone to them. This shampoo took the brassy undertones out and now his coat has the nice “blue black” tone again.

Leaves his coat soft and smelling great. I bathe him at least once a week because he loves adventures and gets dirty frequently. I have had no issues with dryness or flakiness.

I have several Doxies in my breeding program that are white and several goldens that are more on the English claim side and of course we are always struggling to keep their coats white and vibrant I have tried so many things on the market and nothing really seems to work until now.

I was hesitant to purchase because of the higher price but I’m so glad I did. This whitened up all of my dogs with white coats so beautifully. I will definitely be purchasing it again.

I never write reviews but rely on them when buying a product…so I feel compelled to write this. Our dog Bailey who is a Boxer aged 13 1/2 yrs was diagnosed with Cushing’s Disease a year ago. About 4 months ago she stopped eating her dry food and was sort of going down hill, so we thought her life was coming to the final end.

I started doing TONS of research and learned that there are a few special foods on the market that are recommended for dogs with Cushings, this food was at the top of many lists, and now I see why! Bailey LOVES it! I mix it with a dry recommended food for Cushings called Diamond Naturals Light Adult Dog Lamb Meal and Rice Formula, add some Liquid Health K9 Glucosamine and the PranaPets for Adrenal Support.

She is like a new dog from 4 months ago! She’s loves to eat now, is playful and basically is doing AMAZING! All these products I mentioned are all sold here on Chewy, which is a plus. I think her favorite is this Weruva with Chicken Breast in Gravy.

Bailey is incredibly happy and her vet said she is doing great! Again, I highly recommend!!.

This is literally the only dog food I have been able to find that my smaller rescue dog will eat without putting up a fuss. He loves this food and gets so excited when it is time to eat. We’ve tried so many foods and for some reason, this one gets his seal of approval.

It is pricey, so thank goodness he’s not bigger (he’s about 18 lbs. ) but the other food we buy only gets wasted when he doesn’t eat it so this is worth it to us to purchase for him. Our vet tells us that grain free is not good as it can cause cardiac issues with dogs in older age so we do mix in rice with it as well.

It is pretty much packed to the brim with food and isn’t like some other canned food that are wet that have tons of liquid and not as much of the food as it should so you do get your money’s worth with this one.

The Weruva larger cans also are 14 oz and most other cans are 12. 5 oz so again – you do get a little more for your money with this one. Chewy. com had a sale for this recently (thank you, Chewy. com!) so that made it easier to purchase, too.

I have given my dogs many canned and dry foods, and this is the best looking, smelling, and I am guessing, tasting food I have provided thus far. I read a review from a few months ago about a pup parent whose dogs has cushings and this food helped.

I hope that is the case and one of my pups Texaco has Cushings and has been on Vetoryl for 1. 5 yrs now and he’s not been doing great. panting episodes and strange behavior. We will see on that front, but my pups crush their meals like never before.

Its looks like human food, smells like human quality food. I’ve been impressed with the first case I bought on Chewy, and purchase 4 additional cases as a result. different varieties. So far, so great!.

If you’re like me, I absolutely dislike the smell of wet dog and smelly dogs in general. Maybe it’s because I have a sensitive nose. I give Max a bath about every two weeks. I’d rather not have to wash him so much, but unfortunately, that’s as much time that can go by before he starts smelling again.

As you can imagine, I go through quite a bit of shampoo. So I was pretty excited when I received the opportunity to try Nature’s Miracle Shampoo and Conditioner, Pistachio Cream scent. First off, I love how well the shampoo lathers, and how easily it rinses off.

I also like that it’s a shampoo + conditioner, so I only have to do one application, because we all know how much our dogs love getting baths, haha. Second, the shampoo really works! No wet dog smell left on Max after his bath, and his coat is super soft, and I can’t stop petting him! I took off one star because I’m not a huge fan of the scent–kind of smells cheap to me, but I know everyone has their own favorite scents, so I wouldn’t necessarily discourage anyone from purchasing this shampoo because of that.

I have a dog mom friend that loves the candles and shampoos that smell like cake, cookies, etc. I will say though, the scent after the bath isn’t super strong. Overall, recommend the shampoo!.

The Oatmeal Shampoo & Conditioner was so great! Bath time with our fur babies has never a fun time, but that wet dog smell left our whole house smelling gross afterwards. With three dogs getting baths, we had to go through so many hoops trying to rid of the smell.

Nature’s Miracle has really helped! There’s still some wet dog smell, but it is noticeably less prominent after all three have went through their bath time. Plus, the pistachio cream smells incredible, and it left our dogs smelling fresh and their fur so soft afterwards.

We had friends over that evening and when we asked, they had no idea we had given our dogs a bath earlier that day. Until of course, they gave them pets and could feel their fur. 🙂 The dogs may still not enjoy bath time, but it made it easier on us.

And as a result, they get more pets afterwards. So all in all, it’s a win-win. Highly recommend this product, especially if you have more than one fur baby!.

I would definitely recommend this shampoo & conditioner. First, the scent is amazing (I got the pistachio cream). It is not overwhelming since I am sensitive to fragrance however it covers my dog’s double coat wet smell.

It has gotten worse with her age so this was a plus. My dog has a double coat and is outside everyday & is very active so she gets messy. Many shampoos don’t do as good of a job as this one in terms of cleanliness & getting dried, crusty dirt off but also smell.

It lathered great & also rinsed off completely – some of the other brands need an extra rinse or two to get everything off especially with a double coat but this was easy. Also, German Shepherds are prone to allergies & skin issues so the fact that this does not have sulfates but has ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Collodial Oatmeal & Vitamin E, I feel comfortable using it on my dog (I am very picky what I use and feed her) and I have seen a subtle improvement in some of her itchy spots so far and will continue to use this as her main shampoo!.

Excellent product, it brought a beautiful shine to the dogs coat. Left it in really good condition and fabulous smell which lasts for day. I will definitely keep using. The big litre bottle is great value, I reckon it will last the guts of a year as we only have a miniature dog.

This is the second time I have bought this and it last ages. I use it on my Schnoodle who has quite sensitive skin and I haven’t had a problem, it really does smell like baby powder..

First off, I love every product I’ve ever used from here. Hands down amazing. I figured why not try some for my dogs? My only complaints about the bar are the lathering and the rinsing. I expected that since the shampoo bars do the same thing in my hair.

Over all, I really liked it. Maybe not great for larger dogs like mine though. Too much area to cover. What I found works the best to get them fully covered in the shampoo is using a wash cloth. It helps the bar later and helps me get a more even spread over their coats.

It has a little issue rinsing out, but you couldn’t tell once they were dry. They smell great and it’s a subtle smell. Their coats are soft and shiny. Over all another wonderful product.

I have a Great Pyrenees that has outdoor /pollen allergies AND food allergies so he’s a sensitive guy. On top of that, he hates bath time. I used to use a liquid shampoo from the pet store and after a bath soooooo much hair would fall out.

I saw this bar soap and thought I would try it, thinking I wouldn’t have to stop and keep reapplying more liquid shampoo since he’s such a big guy. This bar shampoo is the BEST, I’m not going to use anything else on my dogs! It reduced the amount of hair loss dramatically and the ease of use is so much better! My only suggestion is for a “full size” bar for large dogs!.

I was a bit skeptical that this would be easier than using liquid dog shampoo, but it was. Rub bar on wet dog. Massage shampoo into fur. Rinse. It was quick. It was less messy. It lathered easily. Dog in question is a beagle with chronic itch issues.

We aren’t quite sure what triggers it. I don’t know if this shampoo will help or not, but I love it just for how nice the bath experience was. Her fur is soft and shiny after her bath. We also have a Shih Tzu mix with oily skin (so his fur gets a bit gross and he doesn’t smell like a rose).

I haven’t tried bathing him yet since he gets professionally groomed. Both dogs enjoy digging up the yard going after moles, so I am sure we will use it on him before long.
