20 Best Shampoo And Conditioner For Dry Scalp And Dandruff (2023 Updated)

I am a 53 yo female and have been struggling with itching/flaking for a couple years now, which is new for me. I used the balancing shampoo, restoring serum and soothing elixir for about 3 months, washing 1-2x per week, and have found little to no lasting relief from itching or flaking in that time.

While the restoring serum really helps soothe the itching immediately, it has persisted beyond the initial relief and I have not seen any reduction in the flakes that fall when I scratch my itchy head.

So I took a bit of a break the last few weeks, and returned to the co-wash I had been using; to be fair, I didn’t notice any changes then, either. Yesterday I washed my hair with the balancing shampoo and used the restoring serum immediately after while my hair was still damp.

and my scalp is more itchy than ever today. I just now applied a good amount of restoring serum and am truly enjoying the relief, but I’m still seeking a more permanent solution. I think the shampoo is too drying for my scalp and hair, based on the texture changes I notice when I use it; due to a backorder situation, I have not been able to acquire the conditioner since I purchased the shampoo.

I absolutely love the smell of these products and really want them to work for me, but unfortunately they haven’t been the miracle I was looking for.

One thing I notice right away is that the shampoo bottle is 2. 4 ounces larger than the conditioner bottle. This bothers me as I always seem to run out of conditioner way before I run out of shampoo and with the conditioner bottle being smaller that just means I run out even faster of the conditioner.

While I like pump bottles I find them harder to use, especially when you get to the bottom of the bottle. One pump of this shampoo supplies a good amount of shampoo probably even for long hair. I really like how much suds this shampoo produces when I lather it in my hair.

It is a lot! I really like how this shampoo smells as it smells like coconut to me. I feel this shampoo does a good job moisturizing my hair and keeps my hair feeling nice and soft. I enjoyed using this Head & Shoulders Supreme Detox & Hydrate Shampoo and look forward to more continuous use.

My husbands uses it along with the matching conditioner too and that’s saying a lot in my home! This is the first shampoo that I can say I use that gives me that “salon feel” at home.

I have VERY THIN HAIR and the body and “feel” of thickness after use is top notch. Other brands promise that body but I never true to their claims, until now! My hair has never felt as strong and bouncy since I was a child.

I am used to having to purchase high priced shampoos and conditioners as my frizz becomes relentless when purchasing cheaper products. Seemingly, the cheaper the product, the less moisturizing properties it carries??? But I shampooed and was actually surprised how creamy the shampoo was.

Had a good clean smell , slightly floral and musky but nice. Shampooed twice. As I always do. The second shampoo being extremely frothy and easily washes out too. Doesn’t stay in hair where you can feel it and need to maintain a stream of water to get it out and off your head.

So if you are looking to just swap one out for either your shampoo or conditioner, then you’re good to go. I will say that both of these products together left my hair feeling clean and healthy without feeling stripped or bogged down.

On days when I tried different conditioners, the effects of some of those came through (like the heavy conditioner left my hair feeling heavy afterwards) but the next time I shampooed it still was able to handle the clean up.

I will say that the combo of both did leave my hair feeling healthy without that fake heavy sometimes oily feel which I don’t particularly like. This just felt natural without feeling dried out and a healthy shine that a person likely only usually sees a day after a shampoo (bc you know your natural oils come through by then and help out that hair of yours).

Head and Shoulders has always been a stable in my household even as a child. My brother had dandruff so the whole household was using it. Since then, I’ve used it on various occassions due to it being on sale/having some occassional dandruff periods.

I’ve always enjoyed that I was pretty consistent and had a good formula. With the Apple Fresh however, it seems that the one I tested was a little bit more runny than the previous batches that I have bought.

On top of that, the green has become more of an off pastel green than the typical granny smith green that I remember it to have (i could be remembering it wrong). Aside from this, it’s still the same heads and shoulders which I think is a good thing.

It’s rare to have a consistent product these days without companies trying to drastically cut corners, save on costs and upending something that was good.

The shampoo product is not working for me to control my scalp dandruff. An 8/10 condition. It may need a couple of months to work effectively. Also, I find the bottle difficult to squeeze to release the shampoo, esp when hands are wet.

I understand the need for thick and rich shampoo but very hard to get it from bottle. I like the fragrance.

I originally purchased 6 bottles of the hand sanitizer and then 6 pouch refills. I had been looking for months and buying everything possible. DS Sanitizer smells amazing and for the first time ever my hands are actually soft and not cracking.

I will search no further. I then purchased a volumizing shampoo for me, and the Dandrene for my severely disabled son who gets sores on his scalp. Within a week the sores were half gone. He is also severely immunocompromised with respiratory issues which makes Covid very frightening and the need for sanitizers a must.

I was skeptical, I thought here’s another shampoo & conditioner claiming to work. Well, I’m no longer looking, I have found it! This product really does what it says it does. The mint smell is great and the way your head tingles when you use the conditioner is a bonus.

Head and Shoulders is a product that I am very familiar with as my family used it often when I was growing up but after receiving a free sample from Pinchme I became familiar with Head and Shoulders updated version Head and Shoulders Supreme Nourish and Smooth Shampoo.

I was super excited to try this one. I hadn’t heard of any with hyaluronic acid before and was eager to see if it stood out above other shampoos I’ve tried. Olay, so the bottle of this shampoo is a neat square shape, which is different from other shampoos out there.

It is easy to hold and pour out shampoo. This product needs little more to lather and clean than the other shampoos I am using, but that’s not the issue. The smell is a clean and crisp, kind of floral jasmine or fresh breeze types.

I purchased this because it claims to help dry itchy scalp. I do have dandruff and dry itchy scalp. My hairdresser recommended that I use coconut oil and tea tree oil on my scalp before washing my hair.

I used the scalp shampoo which strips and clarifies my scalp and hair and makes it even more irritating than before. Compared to Amika which is a moisturizing shampoo I would give this a one out of 10.

It’s a very watery texture when you pour it out. The scent is very herbal and pleasant.  If you have an oily scalp this might be the product for you as it did remove all of the oil off of my scalp, but that was not what I was looking for.

It kept my hair clean for four days. But the downfall is it kept my hair very dry. Look at the pictures below. My hair is very dry and normally does not look like this. My hair is normally vibrant, shiny and the ends are very moisturized.

I also use the conditioner in which I was able to use on my scalp and massage without it being too heavy.

I’ve tried a couple of other products but none that work as well as this one! I have an oily scalp that leaves my roots feeling greasy soon after a wash day. I’ve been trying to train my hair by washing it 3 days a week and this has definitely helped after the longest break in between washes.

Its strong enough to remove all the oil, grease, dandruff, and flakey skin but gentle in that it doesn’t strip my scalp. It does a great job at getting rid of layers of dry shampoo, hair masks, and heat protectant without drying out my ends.

I use it with a scalp massager which really helps to get into every nook and cranny. As I only use it once a week, it has so far lasted me a good while. Its a bit pricey but well worth it in my opinion.

I have very corse natural 4c hair and I also suffer from dry scalp. I find my hair so hard to manage that I usually just leave it in protective styles year around. Therefore, my actual hair barely gets the TLC it needs.

This shampoo helped revive my hair after taking out my crochet braids! I know it is marketed to combat dry scalp/dandruff but I swear it moisturized and softened my actual hair shafts also! While using this shampoo I ran a large toothed comb through my hair to detangle and get the product through and I experienced less breakage than I usually do.

This is after having crochet in for a couple of months. I’m usually weary of products with a scent, so I was nervous about the peppermint but the smell was pleasant and did not irritate my scalp at all.

I feel like the peppermint acted like a nice aroma treatment during my shower and really cooled down my usually itchy and irritated scalp. The only con is that it took a while for the shampoo to lather up and get foamy.

As mentioned before I am completely natural and my hair is 4c so it literally drinks up products so I was not surprised that I had to pour out a little extra to get a nice deep lather. However after rinsing, my hair and scalp felt very clean but definitely not stripped of my natural oils.

So this shampoo/ conditioner definitely kicked-off wash day on a high note. Fresh out a set of box braids and I was dreading the wash but this shampoo did the trick. First, we have to address the quality of the product.

The shampoo and conditioner were both a nice, thick, creamy texture which for me was easier to work with compared to runnier products I tried I the past. You can tell that this shampoo and conditioner is top of the line.

The smell is amazing, it is mild and fresh. When it touches your scalp you can feel that tingling reassurance that you haven’t missed a spot. All in all I found this shampoo to work with my thick natural hair very well.

I would absolutely recommend this product especially paired with the conditioner. Together they make your scalp sing and leave your hair feeling clean and minty. I found my hair to be softer and easier to manage after the conditioner.

I was very sceptical about this shampoo. My scalp has suddenly become very dry over the past 2 years since lockdown, I’m not sure if there’s a connection? Had tried various other shampoos with lavender, coconut oil etc.

Although it did help after a couple of days the Itching came back with dry flakes. I can honestly say, after one use of this shampoo my Itching has stopped by at least 90%!! It is definitely work trying & I will definitely be buying more.

I have had really bad dandruff all my life, mild to moderate (depending on the time of the year) and at times itchy. I’d tried all sorts to get rid of it. I finally had enough as my dandruff had become really visible at the front of my hair and it was embarrassing.

After trying to decide between all the anti-dandruff shampoos available I thought I’d give E45 a try. Only used it once and its cleared nearly all of it away (bar a few flakes after a good search through my hair).

My head is still a bit itchy but I’ve only used it once and I’m hopeful this will improve. Really happy with my purchase and will continue to use it. Ps. Head and Shoulders is a con, been using it for years to no avail.

I usually use the Superdrig Trichology shampoo, but I can’t get it at the moment so I thought I’d try this. I am so disappointed in it. It’s making the dry skin on my forehead come back, my scalp feels tight and my hair is dry and dull.

Back to the drawing board!.

The conditioner is great. The picture should only show one bottle. I understand why they did it with the pictures showing all the details you wouldn’t be able to see if the bottle faced you directly.

I’ll be buying a second bottle because it definitely works. Especially in this weather. Less scratching and itching which causes less frizzy hair in this heat. lathering up with this conditioner you can tell it has some type of oil in it that calms your locks and feels like you are putting a protective layer on them.

I have bad dandruff and a very itchy scalp. The shampoos I’ve used smell terrible, leaving my hair smelling like tar. This dandruff shampoo smells so amazing! After the first use, my scalp wasn’t itching anymore and my dandruff is almost clear.

I’ve used it two more times and love this dandruff shampoo. It is also ok to use on my highlighted hair, which most dandruff shampoos are bad for colored hair. I’m super happy with this shampoo and even more happy to have found what works for my dandruff and itchy scalp.

Oh my goodness. I don’t usually write reviews but felt I had to for this shampoo and conditioner. It was so strong, certainly didn’t tingle, felt like it was burning my scalp. After 20 minutes I had to shampoo my hair again in order to try and soothe my scalp! Thank goodness I had some oat milk shampoo and conditioner which seems to have soothed my scalp, although it still feels that it’s been upset but the burning has gone.

Thank goodness I only left it 20 minutes before shampooing again. I had to give it 1 star, but didnt want to. For me, terrible stuff.

Definitely worked for me. Used it for eczema,rosacea, psoriasis (which ever one it is that makes my skin red, itchy, dry and flakey) on my forehead, cheeks and both sides of my nose under my eyes. Rubbed a lil on my face in the shower gave it bout 3-4 mn then washed with cold water and i got results the very first time and have since for the last week ive had it.
