20 Best Shampoo And Conditioner For Damaged Hair And Growth (2023 Updated)

I was someone who used to think that nothing could actually repair the bonds of your hair from the inside, especially because it went against everything I ever learned in cosmetology school, but that was 30 years ago and technology has changed, the proof is in the chemistry.

I completely clarified my hair and then started using only Olaplex products exclusively. I used the entire line as recommended for damaged hair for 4 months, including number one in my hair color touch ups, and now I am a firm believer that it really does repair bonds as they claim because there is no other explanation for the positive change in my mid back length, color treated, and highlighted hair.

I went from dull hair that was always tangled and broke so easily, to much healthier, stronger, shiny, soft, full hair. Despite having a lot of hair, it’s very fine and before Olaplex, I could never achieve fullness without using a ton of product which was counterproductive.

Usually conditioners, treatments, and masks, would weigh my hair down, but not Olaplex, it gives me the natural fullness I want without any styling product or weighing my hair down. And their purple shampoo, I can’t say enough good things about it either! It is super concentrated so you need only the tiniest bit for the best results and the fact that the other products help color last longer, you don’t need to use it as often as other toning shampoos, but when they say leave it on no more than two minutes, they mean it! If you use too much or leave it in too long, it will tint your hair rather than just tone it.

The only Olaplaex product I don’t use is the oil. Other than that, they would have to pry Olaplex from my hands. I highly recommend the entire line and starting with completely clarified hair prior to starting and use Olaplex exclusively for a few months to achieve the best results.

I love the Olaplex No◦5 conditioner. I normally use the Redken Acid Bonding Concentrate line (shampoo, conditioner and the leave in serum), but when all the stores in my area were sold out of the Redken conditioner, I went & picked up the No◦5 conditioner at Sephora.

The Olaplex No◦5 is pretty much the exact same product as the Redken acid bonding concentrate conditioner, which is SO great! I’m currently using the No◦5 conditioner with the Redken acid bonding shampoo and leave in serum from the product line and also with the Redken one United leave in spray.

I could barely tell a difference between the two conditioners which is also great! The only major differences I noticed between the Olaplex No◦5 & the Redken Acid Bonding conditioner are the smells; Olaplex conditioner has barely any scent while the Redken conditioner does.

The other difference I noticed between the two involves how much conditioner I use. With the No◦5, less is more; the conditioner is thicker and is easier to apply because it spreads throughout my hair easier in comparison to the Redken product.

The Redken acid bonding concentrate conditioner feels lighter and requires you to apply more since it doesn’t spread throughout my hair with such ease like the Olaplex does. Therefore in conclusion, if you’re looking for a substitute to the Redken Acid Bonding concentrate conditioner that is just like it but with no scents, is thicker and requires you to use less because its easier to spread throughout your hair, then the Olaplex No◦5 bond maintenance conditioner should be your first go to.

I’ve been having issues with thinning and breakage for a couple of years now and it really does seem like I’ve tried almost everything. I kept my expectations low but since a lot of friends have used and liked Olaplex I decided that it would be worth it to try and so far it has been.

Obviously it can’t cure thinning due to stress/genetics but the texture of my hair has approved tenfold since I started using the No 0, 3,4,and5. Since my hair is quite fine and thin I use the bond building treatment and hair perfecter 1-2 times a week for the past month.

Honestly I am stunned at the results. Since it’s not a permanent fix but a treatment, you do have to continue using it. I did read somewhere that there’s no way for it to permanently fix your already damaged hair but it can definitely treat it while the damage grows out.

It doesn’t weigh my hair down, there’s no apparent residue, and it felt healthier and looked healthier after only the first try and has consistently improved since. I’ve tried so many products that just seem to sit on top of my hair and reflect light instead of actually improving anything texturally.

I was also stunned at the quality of the product, not just in effect but a little really does go a long way in each one of my products. It smells and feels amazing. I could clearly go on. I’m just so pleasantly stunned! I had read some very negative reviews and was prepared to just take a chance and I’m thrilled and impressed with the results.

It’s made me finally feel like I can get my hair back to something I love again. I may just copy and paste this review on the other three products I ordered so if you see it, it’s not a fake review, I’m just thrilled and lazy!.

For reference: I have LONG hair with a naturally wavy/curly texture, and with that comes frizz. A lot of it – even though I’m very aware of how to tame it (naturally kept or with a blow-out). My hair behaves weirdly, i’ll just put it that way – it’s difficult to achieve perfectly smooth styles.

HOWEVER. I’ve been using OUAI products (I started with the THICK SHAMP+THICK COND. ) for a little bit over a year now & all I can say is. I will NEVER go back to anything else, ever, unless I find something AS extraordinary as this brand.

It’s like magic in a bottle, to me at least. I have never experienced better hair (at home, done by me) in my entire life. It’s insanely smooth & silky. I have such minimal frizz now. I normally need to blow dry AND straighten my hair, but I am beyond satisfied with just the blow-dried results.

The only cons, I would say, is that because there’s such rich and moisturizing ingredients (love to see it!) your hair can become a tad oily after the third day, even second sometimes. You just need to figure out what the right amount of product is for you so that you don’t over do it.

The second con, though it’s nothing too crazy, would be that sometimes I end up needing more product in the shower, as it doesn’t lather suuuuper well – but again, this depends on hair length and the amount that you know you need.

I do not have fine or thin hair, but it isn’t course or thick – I just have a lot of it. Because of that I struggle with volume at the roots and most shampoos and conditions either clean my hair and leave me with a dry scalp and flat hair, or it is weighted down and gets oily quick.

No matter what, I always have to use a volumizer and still dont achieve the hairs goals I dream of. FINALLY! The hair of my dreams has arrived!!!! (Actually, I am still working on growing it out) I took their quiz on Ouai’s website and was recommended the medium shampoo & conditioner.

I went with my gut after reading the ingredients/goals and got the fine shampoo & conditioner. MY FOREVER DUO! I have used this combo and both air dried my hair and blow-dried my hair. Each time my results were amazing!!!! Naturally air-drying my hair left me with loads of body and volume and not only looked healthy, clean and bouncy – but it also felt amazing and smelled wonderful.

When I blow-dried my hair, I had so much volume and it did not fall at all. I wash my hair twice a week and have to use dry shampoo and with this combo I made it through workouts and sleeping crazy and still had clean hair.

That is a FIRST!!! I switched to the Super Dry Shampoo before turning their shampoo/conditioner and loved it. now I don’t even have to use it unless I want a little refresh but overall I am good to go.

I love me some Living proof and Olaplex believe me. I bought this and will not go back. I don’t even know how to pronounce the name of this shampoo but buy it. It has a light/ med rose scent. But the shampoo left my hair soft before I used the conditioner.

The conditioner was amazing it felt like my hair melted into silk. I also used the hair mask for thick hair, but honestly I think the regular conditioner made my hair feel smoother. I have super curly FRIZZY hair which I straighten 5 of 7 days a week.

Recently a product dried my hair out so severe that it’s now damage beyond saving, or so I believed. I’ve been hunting for a budget friendly products that will save my hair that I honest would just die if I was forced to cut away the damage.

I love the smell and consistency of this shampoo and I have the conditioner as well for optimal results. So far it has definitely done it’s job. I am concerned however about the having alchohol in the top 10 ingredients as it dries hair out so I’m not sure what prolonged use will do so that being said I’m going to alternate between my washing and conditioning products so I’m not using alchohol dominant products.

I received the Dove Hair Therapy Strength and Fullness shampoo and conditioner. For reference, my hair is fine, color/bleach-treated, 2C/3A. I have lost a lot of volume over some years due to stress, weight gain/loss, etc.

I have been using Nioxin since January and noticed great benefits. The thing with Nioxin is they say your hair can actually shed more in the beginning, but I didn’t notice that. However, this IS something I noticed with the Dove shampoo and conditioner.

Since I already found success with Nioxin, I discontinued using the Dove fairly quickly- only after a few washes, so keep that in mind with this review. I did not want to shed hair that I already worked to grow back.

Otherwise, the shampoo and conditioner combo did NOT make my hair feel greasy or weighed down, which is fantastic. I even put the conditioner up to my roots and my hair wasn’t flat. It looked and felt very smooth and soft.

Two more small things, I like that it comes with a pump but I do not like the scent. I don’t know exactly what it is but maybe herbal? I can never smell any scent lingering in my hair regardless of what I use and no one has commented on the scent of my hair, so I guess it dissipates.

Overall, I liked how my hair felt but I didn’t like the scent and didn’t like how the possibility of my hair shedding more. I prefer my Nioxin, which I will continue using. It is more expensive, but you can get it on sale sometimes.

I received this voxbox from influenster for an honest review. I have super thin and straight hair. For a while, I suffered from hair fall out, itchy scalp, and dandruff. When I received this product I was hesitant to try it because I didn’t want to cause another scalp flare up.

I love that the “Dove Hair Therapy Strength Fullness Boost Shampoo and Conditioner” are sulfate-free as well as cost-friendly for the size. Both have a floral/fresh scent, so if you’re not a fan of scented shampoos I wouldn’t recommend.

The consistency is watery and doesn’t lather up much which I love since these are the shampoos that don’t irritate my scalp; however, after using it twice I had to stop. I did a patch test before trying it and I didn’t get a reaction.

But after using it twice I had an intense burning and itchy scalp. I honestly don’t know if the reaction has anything to do with the retinol contained in the bottle or if my scalp has remained sensitive from my past troubles.

Unfortunately, I can’t use drugstore shampoos or conditioners for these reasons unless they are medicated. Although I had a reaction, I will say it did leave my hair feeling soft and easy to brush out.

I would recommend this bottle only to people who have a healthy scalp and no sensitivities.

Unfortunately, I did not notice any difference in my hair after using either product for a month. The shampoo is sulfate-free so if you want any amount of lather (which I personally love) you have to use quite a lot of product, and this could get pricey since these products seem to be about CDN$7 on average.

My hair is fairly strong/undamaged, but on the thin/limp side and I didn’t notice any ‘fullness boost’. The conditioner is average at best, but be very cautious when using in the bath/shower because if any drops onto the floor it is much more slippery than other brands I’ve used! These products appear to contain Retinol which may benefit hair growth and reduce hair loss, but I haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary.

I will continue to use both products until finished to see if there is any change in my hair. On the plus side, both products rinsed out cleanly and had a pleasant & light floral scent, and I appreciate that Dove is cruelty-free.

I used this conditioner along with the damage defense shampoo and my hair felt incredible even while still wet. With the products I was using before (drugstore), my hair felt dry and stringy needing a ton of additional products afterwards to bring it back to life, some people would say DUUHHH lol.

I have previously color treated hair that is mostly grown out so my hair is fairly healthy and shiny although coarse and frizzy if i’m not careful. I no longer need a leave-in conditioner, only thermal defense.

First off I love everything about this conditioner except for one thing but that one thing is definently not worth taking a star away. This pureology sheer conditioner definetly deserves five stars I love it.

The texture is nice and thick not watery at all and you only need a little bit for a large amount of hair so if you have thick or long hair this will work just as good for you as it does for people with very little to very fine hair.

My favorite thing about this pureology sheer conditioner is that when you put this in your hair it gives your scalp that fresh tingiling feeling it feels like your conditioning it with some refreshing peppermint which brings me to the smell of it well of course its amazing very pepperminty which I love so much.

This smells nothing like the pureology sheer shampoo which im okay with because I dont really care for the smell of the shampoo. If you dont like peppermint i wouldnt suggest you get this because its very pepperminty.

Well than we got the one thing that I dont like about this pureology sheer conditioner its supposed to be for color treated hair ( hair thats dyed) but it pulls out a lot of the hair dye which is a bummer but its still worth the buy so i definetly reccomend.

I received the Pureology Hydrate Sheer products from Influenster for review purposes and have been using the shampoo & conditioner combo for the past 2. 5-3 weeks to give it a fair chance prior to reviewing.

For reference I have fine, wavy hair that has considerable damage and split-ends from bleaching my hair every 3 months as well as pretty regular use of hot tools/blowdryer. Therefore, I’m in desperate need of hydrating/repairing products that also don’t weigh down my fine hair.

As for the Hydrate Sheer Conditioner, it’s a decent conditioner and gets the job done. It felt like I needed to use a little bit more than usual to coat my hair, but my hair feels smooth after use and didn’t weigh my hair down like other conditioners often do.

My hair is admittedly softer and hydrated after using the shampoo/conditioner pair together – however, I do NOT think this conditioner outperforms my regular favorite products from other high end brands – and at this price point I really do expect a higher quality product or at least a more noticable change after nearly 3 weeks of continued use.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the scent at first, but it did grow on me over time and now I quite enjoy the fragrance. I like how my hair feels and the conditioner feels light and creamy. The smell is good. I think I’m seeing fewer flyaways and less frizz. Maybe it is actually strengthening my hair, but I’ve also been using a mini bottle of that 30 benefits leave-in spray-which I’m out of as of today.

I want to try them all before investing in any liter bottles. Years back, my sister had me try her Nano Works in a light green bottle, and it was amazing, but that type is no longer made, and the Nano Gold is even more expensive than the others and not the same.

This product I bought for a great deal at sam’s club, but boy did my hair not take well to it. I do dye and bleach my hair often, so I usually need something with more hydration properties, which this one claimed to have.

Now, when I bought this it was during a time when I was letting my natural hair grow out and wasn’t processing it as much, but I still tried to keep it hydrated. Unfortunately, this combo just made my hair feel waxy and I found that it was less frizzy but heavier.

I have naturally wavy hair but this made it look almost straight because it was weighing it down so much. First time I thought I must not have washed it all out but by wash number 7 I realized it was just the formula.

Gave the rest of it to a friend. My hair did not like this so for me this product is a no-go.

I haven’t used Tresemmé products in quite a while and am happy that we’ve crossed paths once again. This shampoo comes in a 900ml bottle. It has a very lovely uplifting and refreshing scent and has a nice creamy texture.

It lathers up very nicely and I feel that it cleans my hair quite thoroughly. My hair is quite dry at the ends and this helped to balance the moisture in my hair and give it a healthy shine. It’s great value for money and I would recommend it for daily use if needed.

The one thing I’m not a big fan of is the way it’s dispensed from the bottle. I prefer a pump so I don’t have to hold it in the shower as it is quite heavy to hold when new. However it’s not a big deal breaker.

I will definitely repurchase this in future.

I avoided Olaplex for ages because I take umbrage with companies that claim to have a “miracle” product or ingredient that will do the impossible. As I understood it, Olaplex suggested that their products could repair split ends, which is patently impossible.

Split ends cannot be repaired (though, they can be prevented!). I was gifted a set with the #3 and #8 to try out, the first time I used #3, it didn’t do much for me, but that was user error as it turns out.

For me, I have to squeeze almost all of the water out of my hair after shampooing and then apply the product throughout my whole head of hair, get out of the shower completely in order for it to absorb for no less than 15 minutes, rinse and then use conditioner afterwards.

A bit labor-intensive for showering, but also not something that should be done during every shower. It does make my hair feel stronger and smoother and makes it less tangly and easier to manage. The effect appears to be cumulative as well.

I don’t appreciate how expensive it is and how wasteful the tiny bottles are (though, it’s now available in a larger bottle) since I have to use a third of a bottle to saturate my whole head.

wash hair with Olaplex shampoo (literally one quarter’s worth drop, rub in hands to activate and apply near scalp, massage into scalp only and rinse). 2. Towel dry hair. 3. Apply this all over hair from root to end and put a good amount.

I have a lot of hair so I use maybe 3-4 quarter sized squirts. I also rub it in my hands before applying because I was told to do so by a friend. And then I wait at minimum 10 mins. I spend that time exfoliating body, body wash, shaving, etc.

4. Rinse it all out. 5. Shampoo same way as step 1. 6. Olaplex conditioner, maybe two quarters worth on my hair. Massage that in and let it sit for three minutes. Rinse. And you are done!.

My mum got me this and the conditioner to go with it because my hair was dry and heat damage had ruined my curl pattern. I’ve actually never shed as badly as I did last night when I used these and that’s saying something because I have PCOS so lose more than the normal amount of hair on my head already.

Even now if I pass my hand through my hair I’m pulling out strands. I can only imagine what long term use would do. In terms of hair texture I also don’t see much of a difference between this and my regular washes, the curls are just as loose and the hair feels just a dry.

I love this conditioner! I use it in combination with the regular shampoo since l had a balayage done on my hair! Before I go in depth I’d like to say that I had high expectations for this shampoo. Smelt great and it seems like all the positive reviews sold me. At first, I did not have an issue with the products a little went a long way.

The more I used it though I started to notice my hair was falling out. What seemed like chunks stripping away when I washed my hair and brushed it. I have naturally curly on the thin side hair and that was probably my mistake.

I’ve only used these products about 7-8 ish times or so and would wash my hair after 4 days or so considering my hair is processed and dyed. Tonight was my last straw with this product. While I was washing my hair and conditioning it / brushing out, hair would keep stripping away and I think I’ve have had it.

I feel like at this point I’m just ruining my hair and should’ve just listened to the other reviews. Do yourselves a favor and do some research or find alternatives to achieve natural hair growth. I feel like this will only help people with thicker hair.

Ok i dont often do reviews but this stuf is amazing and smells awesome. I have very thin and fine hair. It is just the right thinkness that it does not weight down my hair. Since I turned 50yrs old this year my hair has started falling out and feels horrible.

I have been very upset as i cant afford to lose hair. Plus they discontinued my favorite suave leave in heat defense. Needless to say i’ve returned several products. I have only used this product once after a shower, before bed, i did not style it.

my hair is still falling out but it feels so healthy and soft. Cant wait to see how it is when i style it tomorrow. I even think i may like it better then my suave i have used for years. Hoping vitamins will help with the hair loss.

I had falling limp hair and was desperate for help. Heaping amounts of hair would fall everywhere. I first went and chopped it all off even though i did this many times and it did nothing for me. I ordered olaplex and then i accidentally got this because it was on clearance so now I’ve been able to compare to the olaplex system and it really works just as good.

I’m so happy about this accident. i always just buy products in hopes they work but usually don’t. My hair is shiny, dries beautifully curly, less frizz less breakage it feels stronger i can really tell it’s been brought back to life.

I highly recommend and I’m off to buy a few of them to keep on hand in the even L’Oréal decides to get rid of a good thing.

I don’t ever write reviews but I love this stuff. I have long thick black hair, I bought this stuff because I was hoping it would help the lower half of my hair to look more healthy (it was super dry and gross due to bleaching it in the past).

I’m waiting for my hair to grow out longer so I can chop off what is dead. For now though, I’ve been using this stuff straight out of the shower applying it all over my hair but aiming more towards the damaged portion.

I comb out my hair before and after applying the product and I let it air dry, it dries beautifully!! My hair feels so smooth, silky, has less frizz and I’ve actually noticed my waves have a bit more structure to them.

I highly recommend this product, you can’t beat the price!!.

This past year I have been looking to improve my hair care game. This has meant reading about sulfates and parabens and cutting them out of my shampoos and hair products. I have spent a small fortune on all the high end brands: Olaplex, Redken, Kerastase, Bondi Boost, Georgiemane, Pureology, to name a few lol.

Waste of my money. I ended up with dryer hair that at times was impossible to get a brush through. I lost more hair. I feel foolish for having been so gullible and bought into the lie. These brands are out to make money, pure and simple.

I have switched to this extremely affordable gorgeous smelling shampoo and my hair is so much more manageable, soft, healthy. I lose less hair in the shower and the coconut smell left on my hair is divine.

Thank you Palmers for providing a lovely product and not ripping people off. I’ll use this shampoo for the rest of my days now :).

I love this shampoo so much, it is a godsend! Let me just start this off by saying I don’t have curly, thick, or coarse hair, (my natural hair is fine in strands, but there’s a lot of it), but my hair is damaged significantly from bleaching it twice in one year, so it gets tangled pretty easily.

This shampoo works perfectly for me! I have an oily scalp, so I was kinda skeptical when I first bought this, but I have definitely been proven wrong. The consistency is pretty runny when you first pour it in your hands, but it lathers up nicely and smells AMAZING.

When you rinse it, it leaves your hair very nicely smooth and detangled, without feeling like it’s been overly-stripped. It also doesn’t leave an oily residue like a lot of moisturizing shampoos tend to.

If you have damaged hair and are looking for a good conditioning shampoo, I’d definitely recommend this one!.

I have 4c-type natural hair. This shampoo is thick and moisturizing. It left my hair very soft and detangled. A little goes a long way. Natural ladies with locs, or those washing when hair is in protective styles (braids, twists, crocheted), may want to dilute this shampoo.

I used a nickel sized amount on my thick hair and it lathered very well. It smells so nice too!.
