20 Best Sewing Machines Under 200 (2023 Updated)

This seems to be an older model machine. The instruction booklet was printed in 2011. I remember seeing this model, or something like it, in stores several years back. I also just recently found it on sale at another online store for $25 less than Walmart.

This machine is very noisy and using it is an unpleasant experience. The pattern selection dial and the presser foot level are difficult to operate — very stiff, and they go “clunk” when operated. The flatbed plate is plastic, with two screws on the back edge of it.

The front edge has no screws to hold it down. The left front corner is popped up slightly. The right front corner is even with the flatbed. The storage compartment does not drop open. You must slide it sideways and remove it (as you would for free arm sewing) in order to access any items you might store in it.

This is very impractical and inconvenient. Despite the noise, the motor runs evenly. The fabric passes smoothly over the footfeed. The bobbin winder works well. The stitches are nice — mine came pre-set for straight stitching.

I made curtains from a satin fabric and had no problems. This machine comes with a metal presser foot, but most of the accessory items are plastic. I am accustomed to plastic bobbins, but never saw plastic presser feet before.

I cannot confidently recommend this machine, because I fear the selection dial and the presser foot level will eventually break — they are really clunky. But, make your own decision.

I was actually afraid to remove the machine from the box, but got around to it after some days of procrastination. Watched the instructional DVD twice in full and then in short increments as I tried to follow along while attempting to thread machine.

This in itself was anxiety provoking. The voice of the person who provides instructions sounds like a cartoon character-very young, high-pitched voice. Could be considered annoying by some. The automatic needle threader is not as easy to operate as one might expect.

Older eyes will have trouble finding “the hook” which catches the thread. In addition to wearing reading glasses I had to hold a magnifying glass up to the machine in order to see it. Finally got it threaded and going.

I must say it has far too many “decorative” stitches – some are actually hideous looking and I can’t imagine ever using them. Numerous dials. Will get used to it eventually, I’m sure. Perhaps this is too much machine for me.

Why I chose this model: 1. Automatic needle threader. 2. No need to lubricate or oil (old machines required much attention). 3. Light weight-easy to carry. 4. Wanted to try Brother machine for a change.

5. Excellent price. Office Depot sent it out right away and I received it in just a few days. I am hoping I will feel a good level of comfort and degree of confidence in operating the machine soon.

I bought myself a heavy duty machine to replace my previous singer. After much consideration, I went for the Heavy duty model as I previously found my old machine couldn’t tackle thicker fabrics such as wools for coats.

The online support service was brilliant, very knowledgeable and didn’t push you to buy a model that was more powerful than your needs. I even got some extra bits and bobs! The delivery on the machine was incredibly quick.

It’s a great machine, so quiet in comparison to my old singer! The first project was a canopy with a very heavy canvas, sewed like a dream. Can’t wait to use it more as winter sets in and we update our family wardrobe.

I’ve used Singer sewing machines for the last 50+ years. This model was an extreme disappointment. It is in no way ‘heavy duty’. It sews faster than previous sewing machines and that’s about it. It won’t sew through the same things the previous machine (purchased in 1992) sewed.

This one is a complete waste of money. I’ve communicated with Singer several times about this and the nearly useless Serger I bought at the same time, and at no time did they say they were looking to improve on their current models.

If you want to sew two pieces of lightweight material together and nothing else, this machine will probably work fine for you.

This machine does exactly what it says. For my first project I’ve already sewn 6 layers of leather together and also multiple layers (4) of Harris Tweed, to make a handbag. Despite being a very novice sewer I haven’t found any real difficulties, although there is definitely a “knack” to catching the thread from the bobbin, but once mastered it really is quite straightforward.

Not a quiet machine, but when it’s dealing with heavyweight fabrics that’s understandable. I would recommend a walking foot as an optional extra, plus some spare bobbins and heavyweight needles. I definitely recommend this machine.

I haven’t touched a sewing machine since I was 12, so as it’s been over 30 years I’m more or less a beginner; but the manual seems to assume a certain degree of prior knowledge. The machine has been put through its paces and everything seems to work, but I spent several hours after receiving this trying simply to wind the bobbin and thread the needle, as the instructions and diagrams in the manual don’t adequately show how to do these things.

I was also given essentially 2-3 sets of instructions as there are two in the manual for different models (and I didn’t know which I’d been given) and a third for winding the bobbin on the machine itself.

Maintaining tension on the bobbin after the thread is cut is not explained, only that it will create problems if the thread is not tightly wound. Also the steps in using the needle threader are out of order and the diagrams do not entirely show where the thread should go (behind the threader? in front? The thread disappears off the edge of the diagram and reappears elsewhere).

My mother-in-law is an experienced seamstress and she couldn’t figure out how to do this from the instructions. If this is truly a machine for beginners then the manual needs to be written for beginners.

This machine was supposed to be an upgrade from my basic model but I would give anything to have my old machine back. At least it could handle more than 2 layers of fabric. I had never broken a needle in my 10 years of sewing until I tried using this one.

Broke the first needle within 30 minutes of using the machine. It’s supposed to be good for quilting but I just broke another needle (the 5th since owning this machine) while trying to sew the backing, batting, and top layers of my quilt together.

I changed the needle and rethreaded top and bobbin, now it doesn’t work at all. the Needle keeps getting hung up on something inside and jamming. It’s a shame that I’ve had it for 2 months and have only used it a handful of times.

Save your money and by the basic sewing machine models, you will be much happier.

I was so excited to get this machine, did my research and it arrived promptly. I am not a beginner but read all thru the booklet anyway. I am beyond disappointed! The tension refuses to cooperate which causes broken thread.

The various decorative stitches either do not work at all or change in the middle of a project!! When you adjust the speed to a certain level, all of a sudden it speeds up by itself. Lighting is poor.

Very noisy. I paid to have maintenance done by a reputable company after only a month and that did not correct anything! After having to take a project apart 6 times yesterday. I am over this machine.

Its brain has gone berserk! I have had the machine 4 months, done everything the manual says to correct these issues and now am told they don’t stock it anymore so. no replacement. I now have to pay to ship it back plus a restocking fee.

Why would you restock a machine that does not work? I would gladly have accepted a new machine of the same kind, thinking this one is just defective. No cooperation there. Against “policy”. I guess they worry more about policy than making a customer happy.

Buy this machine at your own risk. Mine was not right from day one. So I lose for trying to do what I could to work with it.

This machine was recommended by a friend who sews everyday. I have sewn for over 50 years and was not interested in a computer type machine. I wanted a basic, inexpensive, easy to operate machine. This Singer 4432 is lightweight but sturdy.

It was easy to set up, thread, and wind the bobbin. It only came with basic instructions but the manual was readily available online for download. Manual is essential if you want specific instructions for any of the many stitches and buttonhole that the machine is capable of.

Also, the manual is needed for troubleshooting problems, if any. If you are a beginner or experienced, I think you will be pleased with the ease of operation. It also comes with a free online sewing class.

That might be a good introduction for someone who is just beginning or who has not sewn for awhile. I have not checked it out. I opted for the manual instead. I will probably view the class later. It does not come with a case but has a handle attached to the machine which makes it so easy to transport.

I like that it has a simple cover with a hole for the handle. It protects the machine from dust when not in use. Overall I appreciate the style and am pleased with the performance of the machine.

Ok, what a terrible time I had with singer. Started out with the M1000. Two machines were faulty right out of the box. Upgraded to the M2100, also did not work right. Then upgraded to this 4432 and it puckered and pulled material, no matter how many settings adjustments I made.

I finally went to an actual sewing shop with some of material and they asked me what machine I have. I said the singer 4432, they laughed at me. They said any singer machine built after 1988 ish is not worth 1/4 of the asking price.

They sold out and royalty their name to a cheap manufacturer. If you’re looking to buy thus machine, save your money, go to an actual sewing shop and talk to a salesman. Get a real machine, not this garbage stitch box that won’t keep even the thinest, pinned a million times material stitching straight.

Oh my goodness! This sewing machine is amazing! The set-up, threading a bobbin, and threading this sewing machine was very easy. No complex steps to follow, and the manual is very easy to read and understand.

This machine creates beautiful stitches and razor sharp seams. There were no skipped stitches! No bunching, either! I also took advantage of Singer. com’s video tutorial resources. Singer also has a YouTube channel, which has a plethora of additional videos demonstrating what this sewing machine can do.

This baby is sturdy, and I love the design. There is plenty of workspace to sew a garment. The automatic threader is an absolute God-send! Thank you, Singer! I love using the “function buttons” (start/stop, reverse stitching, needle up-down, and speed control.

These functions make sewing more enjoyable and productive; and there are many additional feet and accessories that came packaged with this awesome machine. This is my second Singer sewing machine I purchased this year, and I don’t have any regrets and not one bad thing to say about both of them! I also own a Singer Heavy Duty 6800c sewing machine.

Another wonderful sewing machine! I plan to work on heavy duty projects on this machine. My Quantum Stylist sewing machine arrived early, it was packaged neatly and securely. Nothing was broken or dirty.

I look forward to creating many sewing and quilting projects with this baby! Lastly, the price was very reasonable! I saved a total of $175 off the original price. I highly recommend this awesome sewing machine, especially to the beginner sewist.

I’m going to love my new Singer sewing machine I’m sure. I’ve used it a couple of times for a quick fix to an already existing garment and have been pleased with its performance. Presently, I’m working to identify all of the attachments that have come with my new machine.

My only complaint is that all of the attachments came in one large bag. I’ve spent several hours already looking at the manual attempting to match each attachment with the picture in the manual. While I’ve gotten several matched up with its picture I’ve spent countless hours online on your website looking at the different presser foot pictures and classes.

I have to agree that it has been helpful to watch each demonstration but I simply do not have the time to spend online going over what each attachment is or how it works. All of this would have been simplified if the attachments would have come in separate bags with their name identify what the attachment was.

I am a novice seamstress. I haven’t sewn since high school. Singer has grown by leaps and bounds since I have sewn! I do have the desire to begin my new era with my new Singer. I plan to teach myself how to quilt and hopefully make a few new garments that I can proudly wear.

As stated, I’m almost a brand new seamstress. A little effort on Singer’s part by sending the attachment along with their identifying name would have been helpful to me and extremely helpful to someone just beginning with sewing.

Pease know that I am most pleased with my new machine and plan a long and happy experience with it. I began my sewing experience when I was a very young girl by using my grandmother’s Singer unbeknownst to her.

This is my second Singer in my lifetime. I have high hope for it and what I plan on doing with it. Please don’t take my complaint lightly, it would be helpful to have identifying names on all of the attachments.

I purchased this machine about a month ago. I was upgrading and looking for a machine with built in font capability and more decorative stitches, which, for the most part, this machine has compared to a simpler machine.

The bonus accessories included are great and have already been put to good use, especially the walking foot which is a very useful addition. The machine has worked well and any problems I’ve encountered, for the most part, have been the result of the learning curve/human error.

The features I had expected this model to have but am most disappointed in are the inability to increase or decrease the size of the available fonts and decorative stitches ( I did spend a lot of time researching various machines and do not recall ever reading the font size for the Quantum Stylist is fixed or I would have passed on this model.

In addition I’ve found it difficult to remove the extra stitches between the lettering without the end/ beginning of the some letters wanting to work loose as they are not all double stitched at the begining or end of some of the lettering or decorative stitches, I’ve even resorted to adding the auto tack stitch option between letters/ stitches and it either doesn’t work or doesn’t place it where needed.

The other disappointment are the 600 so called stitches, again I had expected there to be more varieties of stitches, however, instead the same stich is counted more than once if it can be altered in width, length, mirrored or rotated, so if 1 stitch design can be mirrored as well as rotated 360° it is counted as 5 different stitches, if a stich can be lengthened x number of times and the width increased or decreased, each is counted as a “different ” stitch, so in fact there are well under 600 “different” stitches.

Overall a good working machine for the money, however, if you are wanting to use fonts/decorative stitches on a variety of projects you might be disappointed as the font size provided is rather small and will get lost on larger projects or patterned fabrics.

In short my upgrade has turn out to be just a revision to what I already have and if able to do it over again I would spend even more time on research so I end up with the features I had expected this model to have.

I have only had it for 3 hours and I like it! It is a replacement for my old CE4000, which finally died (I gave it a mock funeral) after 15 years. So far, I have done test stitching, reinforced a seam on a new shower curtain, and mended a pair of pants.

I am not an expert seamstress. I make little craft items, and I use my machine for basic clothing repairs, etc. I think this machine will do the job just fine for the next 15 years. Two things I have noticed: a.

the bobbin winder is now plastic instead of metal. Yuck. b. the storage compartment has not gotten better – it’s still “open” and your stuff will fall out if it’s not in a bag or pouch. Brother used to include a pouch and yeah.

no longer. You have to provide your own. c. the auto needle threader is now mostly plastic – seems fragile and I’m afraid of it. On the good side, here are the improvements over my old machine (the CE4000) 1.

the screwdriver is angled so that it will work, without slipping and scratching the plate. Yay! 2. the bobbin case seems far more well designed on this machine. 3. It does seem like it’s far quieter and less loud – also, you can set the speed as you wish.

This is awesome. 4. it’s lighter than my old machine. 5. thread tension seems to be spot on right out of the box. 6. (i wish they would tell you what size needle is installed – I mean, in the actual machine when you remove it from the box.

) I couldn’t tell, but I’m guessing it’s a universal, maybe a 12? 7. the manual was well-written this time. 8. it purrs. it does. 9. Auto one step button hole – this is a non-negotiable for me. It does it well! And in different styles! 10.

I don’t think I will use all the stitches in my lifetime, but it’s nice to have those choices. For someone like me, who does basic sewing/mending/craft items, it does beautiful straight, zig-zag, overcast stitches that are just easy to use.

This is a great machine for someone who doesn’t want to spend their life savings on a sewing machine, will use it occasionally, and will learn with it. Great job, Brother USA!.

I received this product from Brother for free in exchange for my honest opinion / review of the product. This machine is GREAT! I am a novice sewer at best and this machine is very easy to use. The self threading needle had me a little stumped, as I couldn’t get the mechanism to move as it should but threading it by hand took little to no effort.

There are numbers and arrows stamped into the plastic upper body of the machine that allow anyone to thread the machine by just following along. The bobbin is also self threading and just as simple to do.

follow the lines and numbers and viola. Putting the bobbin in place. Literally drop and pull. there is a built in thread cutter that gives a clean break every time as well No fraying thread! The machine itself is well crafted with a sturdy / hard plastic material resulting in a solid machine that is lightweight and easy to carry / move about.

An onboard tool box can be easily removed to make room for an extra “table” giving you an additional 14 inches of work space. In the pouch that you will find inside the tool box you will find 5 extra feet, 3 needle packs and extra bobbins as well.

Included as well is a very well written book of instructions that include step by step photo instructions. The manual comes in 3 languages, each it’s own book. Using the machine. As stated above I am NOT a person who sews well.

There is an onboard speed control so no matter how hard you press the pedal it will not go too fast. This can be adjusted once you learn the ways of the machine and you find a comfort level, allowing you to zip right through like an old pro.

After unpacking the machine, there are several parts to install/put together. The power supply and foot pedal were easy to plug in and start using. The operation panel is easy to read and you can change the stitch size and style with the simple press of a button.

I love that there is an attachment on the side that you can store accessories in. This makes trying to keep up with small parts so much easier! Accessories included are about 12 different types of needles/stitch parts in order to sew different items.

Monogramming is my new favorite stitch! Other accessories include a cleaning brush, screwdriver and an extra spool pin. Threading the Brother machine is also very easy. Thankfully the instruction manual is well written and easy to read! I love how there are multiple ways to thread depending on the style of stitch you plan on using.

I absolutely love the simplicity of the Brother sewing machine. It’s lightweight and easy to store when not in use. A great starter sewing machine for newbies or for the experienced sewing professional!.

This is the perfect machine for me. I am not a beginner, but haven’t sewn for a while, so wanted a machine that would behave similarly to my previous one (now 40 years old. ), but also give me more options eg stretch stitches.

And that is what I have got! Useful handbook too; easy to use and logical. Nothing too complicated but will see me through the next 40 years of sewing I hope!.

Smooth, quiet machine. Easy to use, good lighting, easy to thread. A solid, mechanical machine that is up there with the one I bought in 1979 (and am still using. ) Testament to the quality and longevity of mechanical sewing machines.

Very happy with the product, basic, simple, has what you need for basic sewing without all the bells and whistles at a great price. Great workhorse. It is a good companion with my Janome Computerised Sewing Machine.

This is an easy to use machine. I did not want a computerised model and chose this because it had additional useful features that my old machine lacked. These are drop in bobbin, facility to drop feed dogs, automatic threading etc.

So far I’ve found it easy to use and quiet.

the worst machine I’ve ever experienced. you’ll spend more time rethreading the needle than actual sewing. it doesn’t handle any fabric other than plain cotton or poly. it chokes on satin, silk, Lycra, anything that isn’t plain cotton.

if your bobbin and spool threads aren’t EXACTLY the same thickness, it rips the thread every 3 seconds. it chokes going over a hemline and rups the thread. theres absolutely not one positive thing i can say about this pos.

seriously, Brother, stick to Label Makers. this was a waste of almost $200.

I love the BROTHER Sewing Machine Model GX37. It has so many options including 37 built-in utility and decorative stitches and a custom sized button hole feature. The Self threading feature is a real time saver along with the jam resistant quick set drop in bobbin.

The bright LED lit area makes it easier to see what you’re sewing. Another valuable feature is the reverse sewing lever. And the convertible free arm surface makes it so handy for sewing cuffs and sleeves, which I’ve always found to be the hardest part of sewing a garment.

I am an avid needle-crafter and love to make quilts for friends and family. Putting together all the patches for my patchwork quilts is done effortlessly and quickly with this model sewing machine. It is practical for any fabric repairs and for following along with patterns for clothes.

I also find it easy to use to make doll clothes for my granddaughters. A real bonus included with this sewing machine are the extra foot accessories, including zigzag stitch foot, blind stitch foot, buttonhole foot, button sewing foot, narrow hem foot, zipper foot.

This brother sewing machine is also light weight which makes it convenient for me when I wish to carry it into another room to work on a sewing project. It also includes an instructional video and manual.

I used a relative’s Janome sewing machine and really liked it. I ordered mine on Walmart online because they had the most variety to compare. This machine is very easy to use just pay attention to how to thread it correctly.

The instruction booklet is very helpful for all the different functions. I use it for mending and simple alterations.

I am very pleased with my purchase. Runs very quietly and smoothly. So far I have only hooked it up to make sure it worked and check the stitching but unless something unforeseen should appear(which I do not think will happen) I am very pleased.

I am looking forward to spending a great deal of time enjoying the use of the machine. It is not a high dollar machine but it is a good machine. A lot of people think that the more expensive the machine is; the better they will be able to sew but that is a fool’s dream.

I learned to sew on an old treadle machine (and wish I still had it) and while the new machines can make a lot of pretty designs, they cannot make a seamstress out of someone. Either you can sew or you can’t.

The designs the machines make cannot teach you to cut and follow a pattern or know how to join the pieces of fabric. You need a knowledgeable seamstress to teach someone how to truly sew. So, while the top line machines are fun; if you really want to sew find someone to teach you before investing in an expensive machine.

Despite having this sent to an old address this sewing machine is a dream! Solid that you can feel with every touch and every function. This is a real work horse for performing straight forward non-fancy stitching jobs.

Easy to use. Glad I finally chose a smaller non-digital machine so I can focus on actual sewing instead of on how to use and repair a smart sewing machine!.

I am very pleased with my Janome 2212 sewing machine. It is easy to use, reliable, fairly lightweight and does all I want it to do! I particularly like the way it feeds the fabric along and the precision of the stitches.

This sewing machine was recommeded to me in a sewing class for beginners. I’ve had it and been using it for 1,5 years now. I use it on regular basis, mainly for DIY projects, dolls clothes, garment adjustments.

I use basic stiches for the most time. The machine has been working great so far. I used to have a much better (much more expensive) machine (I moved to a new country so I was not able to bring it with me and that’s why I purchased this one) which in comparison with Janome 2212 was smoother, produced less noise, and had many more settings and stiches.

So I think Janome 2212 is simple and basic but it works great, I have no complaints. I highly recommend it.

I purchased this for sewing lightweight cloth. The reason for this particular model was the multiple stitches. I didnt realize how wide this machine could sew until I sampled some of the stitches. The wide 7 mil stitch makes them stand out.

The machine is very quiet. I wound a bobbin first thing out. That was a complete success. However I forgot to remove the thread from the spring tension and threaded the machine and it sewed perfect except I notice it pulled tight when I went to removed it from the machine.

Upon investigation I noticed the misthreading and threaded it correctly. It sewed perfect again and no tight pull out from the machine. This machine doesnt have a pressure foot pressure adjustment. The light on the machine is very bright and clear.

The extension table is a very nice size. I didnt think I would use it but Im positive that will come in handy. The TS200Q has a small foot print for a full sized machine. All these machines look like they are made of the same materials but after receiving and using this machine, there is a big difference.

My other sewing machines were a riccar mechanical and a brother pacesetter ult2001. This machine is in between the two and will replace them nicely. The Riccar being mechanical was simple the brother is much morecomplicated – the Janome is simply easy to achieve the same results as both my old machines.

The Janome doesnt have the built in scissors but I wont miss it- the manual thread cutter on the Janome is super sharp and convenient for my type of sewing.

Initially need to admit that I haven’t been able to jump into sewing and use my new machine due to current commitments I have, HOWEVER I cannot wait to do so!!! AM SO excited about this machine and it’s capabilities to sew all kinds of fabrics from sheer to heavy duty, easy to difficult! Am trying to read all instructions first so that will not mess up.

My first project is not necessarily an easy one as I need to complete a bean bag type chair for stuffed animals but it is out of minky fabric. This killed my previous machine play another one so want to move cautiously.

However I believe that it will NOT be a problem with this new machine!.

This machine does NOT have a 1. 0A amp motor. It has half that- 0. 5A amps. To say that I am disappointed to have paid nearly $400 for a machine that does what the average <$200 does would be the understatement of the year.

Mine has HD-3000BE on the front of the machine, yet the label on the back of the machine says “753LE” and 0. 5A amps. I bought what I thought was a heavy duty machine. I am disappointed by this overpriced and underpowered model.

So if you’ve got money to burn and all you’re doing is masks- go for it. But if you want something that’s going to sew thin leather, vinyl, and multiple layers of denim- forget it. This is not going to do it.

I was about to give up on my new Brother ST371 sewing machine – it seemed to have the same problems as my Project Runway machine – ‘bird nesting’ on the bobbin, broken stitched, uneven stitching. But after talking with an experienced quilter and explaining my broken seams problem, she helped me through.

It is important to change the needles frequently (I change mine every couple of projects) and make sure you are using a good quality thread that ‘matches’ with the fabric you are using. In the beginning, I was skipping these steps – my old Kenmore machine was a victim of my ignorance.

Since using the tips from a ‘quilting pro’, I’m happy with my ST371 machine – it has all the stitches I’ll need and I’ve bought various ‘feet’ to help increase this machines usefulness. I am mainly a hobbyist and have tackled cat beds, Halloween costumes, and clothes for family members with good results.

I don’t whether or not these people are doing what they are supposed to be doing or that they just don’t know how to use the machine. I have been sewing since 1968 and have used a lot of sewing machines.

I own a Bernina 1090QE, a Bernina B480, and my little workhorse ST371HD machine. I can’t say anything bad about my Brother ST371HD. This machine is a very good sewing machine. I went for like 15 years without sewing and did not have a sewing machine.

I bought this one just to make bedroom curtains for my house. After getting acquainted with the machine, I was bowled over by this machine. I LOVE IT!!.

Bought about a year ago. Purchased this brand because that is the brand I learned to sew on and loved that machine. This machine however, I fight with. Maybe bacuse It’s “new and improved. ” I find the lever to lift presser foot to be in the most awkward place.

Inside right side, instead of readily available on the back side, more convient to access, instead you have to reach through the middle of the machine. Why would they change that? For the sake of change I guess.

Also not a fan of the storage compartment, not easily taken off or put back on. In addition, the cord that goes to the outlet is about 6. 5 feet long and the cord that goes to the foot pedal is about 4′, a little short if you don’t want the cord hanging down in your lap and work area ( I’d rather it be long enough to pass toward the back of the table down to the floor) and plugs in on the side, why not the back out of the way of work areas??, Over all I found this machine to feel cheaply made (all plastics), but again my first brother the base was more metal like, while the top was plastic it just felt more solid.

I have trouble with the bobbin knotting up at times. I guess I don’t have the tension set correctly all the time? I am of course comparing this to my first Brother machine that had hundreds of hours on it.

(I’m not exactly a beginner) Maybe had I learned on this one(BrotherST371HD) I would like it better. Would I recommend for your first machine, I’d say give it a try, you have nothing to compare it to.

But highly recommend IF you can go in store to try other models and brands do that!.

I don’t think I have ever reviewed a product before, but I am so impressed with this sewing machine that I felt compelled to share my experience! I am a total beginner at sewing. Never taken a class, had no idea how a sewing machine worked, but I love doing all kinds of crafts and I felt for a long time that sewing was the next step in expanding my repertoire.

I received this machine for Christmas, and unfortunately due to moving it took me up until this past month to finally open it up and learn how to use it. After watching some Singer video tutorials on YouTube on the Stylist, I was up and running and sewing burp cloths and baby jumpers in no time! My projects aren’t perfect because I’m still new, but the machine has been so easy to learn how to use, and has been so fun.

I feel so confident in using it after only a few weeks, and it’s been really easy to problem solve small issues that have come up when needed. I’ve been able to easily find extra needles and bobbins from my local craft store.

I also love all the different stitches that are programmed into the machine! So easy to make an easy piece a little extra fun. Overall, I love love love this sewing machine and I look forward to using it for a long time!.

I was looking for a second sewing machine for setting up a sewing center at my daughter’s home to use in the down time while I nanny for my granddaughter. I sew dresses and shorts for mission and I was looking for a machine that provided a nice stitch, double needle capability and the ability to select the needle down position when you stop sewing.

It has all that and it also has a wide array of decorative stitches. I have tried a few and I must say they turn out very nicely. I have also acquainted myself with the self threading needle feature and use it all the time now.

My aging eyes appreciate this feature! Overall this machine is user friendly and has many intuitive features. I highly recommend this machine! It is perfect for my needs. It is a great value for the price!.

I am so disappointed in this machine. I had problems from the beginning and now the reason for selecting this machine which was the automatic needle threader isn’t working. It wouldn’t sting so bad if I had been able to get this on a sale but I didn’t even get that benefit.

The machine makes a terrible noise when starting up and upon closer examination I found threads/fibers inside the machine that weren’t the colour I was using to test the machine. I had correspondence with Singer about it but I was reassured all was OK.

I have only had the machine 5 months and now I have to thread it manually which is so frustrating.

Bought my HD4452 in March of 2021. Worked great for a while. This machine has less than 15 hours on it, but quit functioning properly; skipped stitches, birds nest on bottom of stitch, etc. I’m using Singer needles, thread and bobbins.

The tension is set properly. The bobbin works as it should, the needle doesn’t always pick up the thread. Seems like timing, right? nope, I had to remove the plate to clear the birds nest and observed the “hook”.

Timing was spot on and picks up the thread without the plate, but mostly won’t with the plate back on. OK, a product may have an issue, it happens, but here’s what I discovered: The warranty only covers “mechanical” for 90 days.

Singers web site shows a repair/warranty center in Southern California “Singer Sewing Center of Orange County”, that relocated, dropped Singer from it’s name, and no longer sells or advertises warranty services for Singer products.

Singer Customer Care provided this response: “Robert, They are a small location and if everyone is with customers or working on machines, they do not get to the phones. Sometimes the voice mail gets full and you will get some unusual recording that it is no longer a working number.

The location is still one of our warranty centers. I would encourage you to keep trying. They are closed on Mondays. I am sorry for the inconvenience you have experienced. You will need to have your purchase receipt and fill out the attached form when taking your machine to be repaired.

Thank you for choosing Singer. ” So keep trying a location that moved, dropped Singer from their name, stopped selling or advertising Singer products and services, and sells competitor products, and is too small or busy to help you anyway? Really? Seems Singer is headed the way of Montgomery Wards, Sears, and a host of other companies no longer in business.

Once the standard for sewing, my experience is the stanard of how NOT to provide Customer Care.

First, the good. This machine feels sturdy, built to an expected standard and comes with a number of accessories that would be add-ons in the 44xx series. The color and the included accessories are the only tangible differences between the machines.

The number of stitches available is nice, but definitely overkill for my work. Now, the medium. Heavy duty is definitely a marketing term. This is more of a “durable home machine”. I knew this going in, but is still worth noting.

As a result, there are some issues of stitch consistency if you are using this on thicker fabrics. You must use proper technique to get the results you desire. The new machine will showcase lack of ability.

Lastly, the bad/ugly. This machine has a straight stitch setting that will NOT stitch straight. I expected more from the most popular brand and a heavy duty machine. It does not matter which presser foot, what needle (name brand or other), the speed, the tension, the fabric, and every other variable i could think of.

The straight stitches are Always at a slant. Further issues arise with the consistency of the feed dogs. Setting a stitch length seems to mean nothing. I get wildly inconsistent spacing regardless of the feed method I use.

The two most basic features of a sewing machine (straight stitch and consistent stiches) are non-existent with my particular 6380 unit. Worse than that is the customer support. When i reached out regarding my straight stitch issues, i had to spend more than a week going back and forth via email while tech support made me go through their troubleshooting checklist line by line before acknowledging they had no idea why my machine wasn’t working as intended.

After admitting they didn’t know how to help me, I was passed back to a customer service representative to ask for a return/refund. That was over a week ago now that i reached out to customer service with the request and have yet to hear back.

So now i have a paperweight of a machine and a very sour taste for singer in my mouth. Your mileage may vary, but i’m now stuck with having wasted money and looking at other brands of machines.

Very straightforward machine. If you took home-ec in school, you can use this easily! I have owned “computerized” or digital machines in the past; they make me crazy trying to micro-manage my creativity! THIS machine is powerful, and to-the-point.

Manual adjustment of stitch tension, length, and style. That’s it. Pick your needle according to fabric weight, choose the right thread, TEACH yourself how to tension/loosen the stitches on scrap fabric that matches the fabric for your project, and the machine reliably and strongly does what you’ve asked.

I am just a “hobby” / mending / personal alterations type sewer, but I wanted to be SURE that when I went to hem some jeans or patch a heavy coat that I would not be stuck with a wimpy machine struggling to punch through many layers of sturdy fabric.

This machine has delivered. As for the “reconditioned” designation, the machine I received was COMPLETE with everything it originally came with, original instruction manual, in original box, and in all ways appeared and works like a NEW machine.

I have not been compensated in any way to write this up; I just give credit where credit is due and this is the right machine for a very good price for my expectations.

This machine is excellent for slipcovers as it does not shake my card table when sewing fast or over heavy fabrics. HOWEVER, it doesn’t make adequate buttonholes. The instructions are poor, both in the manual and online YouTubes.

More importantly, there is a design flaw in the push bar that descends from the body of the machine as well as in the buttonhole foot attachment. First, I had to reset the device by dialing back to the straight stitch to the buttonhole stitch for each new buttonhole.

Second, I had to hold the push bar back when starting or the machine would not advance to the second position. Third, I had to then let the push bar go, or the second position continued indefinitely.

Fourth, if I pushed and let go at precisely the right times, the completed buttonhole was too small for the button positioned on the buttonhole foot. Fifth, if the buttonhole foot is extended out to its maximum position (only about an inch), the completed buttonhole is still inadequate for a 3/4 inch button to pass through easily.

So don’t buy this machine if you are planning to make clothes with buttonholes.

I now really like my new 4452. It is smooth and quiet, and I think the foot pedal works great. However, it took a while to get to this point. You see, I needed to replace my 30+ year old Singer 6215, and decided to take a chance on the 4452.

I don’t really need it to be heavy duty, as I am only an recreational sewer of normal weight fabrics, but I was drawn to the sturdy metal construction after I was told my old machine’s plastic parts could have failed at any time due to their age, and the repair bill would have cost more than my new machine did.

I was a bit leery after reading the reviews of the 4452 having so many tension problems upon receipt, resulting in many returns. But I went ahead anyway and hoped that I would receive a machine free of the problem.

I wasn’t so lucky. My new machine’s bobbin tension was too loose. Like many other reviewers, I tried everything I knew to do, but I couldn’t get it to work right. I was determined that I was not going to the hassle of returning the machine and finding something else.

And I wasn’t going to go the regular route of contacting the company to be told there was nothing they could do, as a number of reviews noted. So I turned to the internet, and I found out how to fix the problem.

I understand that doing what was called for now invalidates my warranty, but I honestly don’t care about that at this point, and honestly, how often do the real problems pop up during a warranty time anyway.

I have a machine that actually works now (and works quite well), and that is what matters. And it is a ridiculously easy fix – literally, a 1/4 turn of a screw. My question is: If the fix is so easy, why hasn’t Singer addressed the problem in production, rather than having it go on for so long that so many reviews talk about the same problem? The only other thing I would say is that it would be preferable if they provided a printed manual, rather than just the online version.

I doubt including a manual would add much to the production costs.

I am in love with my Singer Heavy Duty 6380 Sewing Machine! Singer has honestly knocked the ball out of the park with this particular machine! I kid you not!! This sewing machine has quickly become my best friend, it truly is a work horse.

It has so many features that make sewing more fun and not seem like a chore. It’s compact and lightweight, comes pre threaded, has an extension table that’s included, 110 stitch applications making it ideal for thick fabric or really almost any fabric, makes sewing denim a breeze, offers 50% more power and extra high sewing speed makes sewing fun! The best part is the company is one we’ve all come to know and love with any/all of our sewing needs as they’ve been around for many, many years.

In fact some of my best memories have their products in them. If you are looking for that perfect sewing machine I strongly urge you to give this one a few stitches and you to will see why I love it so much! The only problem I have is keeping my teenage daughter’s paws off of my machine.

joking! Honestly it’s allowed me and her to make so many projects for her 4-H group in school and many other projects around our home, especially curtains and quilting!.

I am frankly disappointed by the Heavy Duty 4423. The pedal barely reaches the floor. Singer decided to economize not just on the electric power cord, but on almost all other features. Plastic and flimsy exterior.

Disappointed with the quality of the stiches on simple cotton fabric, I can only imagine what will be with other materials. Still considering if I should return this purchase. I did not expect this from SINGER as I had a different model from the same company 30 years ago and there is no comparison in quality.

Simple to use, but this is the only positive I have discovered so far.

Mediocre, far from Heavy duty. As an experienced seamstress, I find this machine extremely mediocre. First of all horizontal bobbins are the worse and not long-lasting. Other their internal metal case, the rest of the machine is made with cheap materials all plastic.

The light is THE WORSE I have seen in my entire seeing life, there are internal main pieces that in any machine would be metal and are plastic in this one. It’s very noisy even after oiling it and any machine comes with a hard case but this one came with a cheap fabric cover.

The backstitch button is in a totally unpractical place and will advise being VERY gentle with the 2 wheels on the front (to change stitches and length) because I am sure they will break in a few months.

My friend lends me her brand new for me to see if I would get it. Definitely no!And this is not a beginner’s friendly machine.

This refurbished Singer 44S was purchased to be shipped to a friend in another state. It arrived quickly in two days. but without needed accessories for it to even sew! It’s online description did not state what accessories it included, but the photos on the left side of the webpage show a machine with a buttonhole foot, an all purpose/zig zag foot and the large thread spool cap.

It arrived without any of those and also did not have its small spool cap, nor the button sewing on foot, and not the zipper foot either. If you know about sewing machines, you know all those are needed or the machine can’t sew.

Other small items were also missing, such as a pack of needles and a lint brush, etc. IMHO those are of little concern. The missing accesories could be a one off mistake, but the machine does not even seem refurbished! Even though cosmetically OK, the machine has a straight stitch foot on it and the stitch width was set as wide as it could be set.

The tension dial was set to 7. Even a sewist would not set up a machine that way, let alone a tech refurbishing a sewing machine. No way. Strangely, the 44S accessory package does not even have a straight stitch foot as part of its package, so a tech refurbishing the sewing machine would not have left that on there instead of putting on a general purpose/zig zag foot it’s supposed to have on it.

This is an AS IS machine and not a refurbished one. My friend can’t test sew with it to know if it even sews well without the needed accessories. The word accessories sound like these items are superfluous, but they are actually imperative to sewing with the machine.

It could have exchanged with this machine picked up by FedEx and another one sent. but the question to online customer service was if this refurbished machine sold and shipped by Walmart is supposed to include accessories or not.

since it’s not verbally described in its webpage online. The very nice customer service reps could not assure that the machine is to have accessories or not. I’ve bought several refurbished sewing machines in years past and they were always well set up with everything in their accessories package as offered when new.

but that was well explained in their webpages. Online customer gave me the address and phone number to the distribution center and I will certainly contact them tomorrow. Thank you for reading this long review.

I have five granddaughters between the ages of 10and 15 who are interested in learning to sew! I got this sewing machine to teach them as the machine I have is far too involved for them! It is heavy duty and has alot of weight to it so it doesn’t move around while sewing.

The machine is easy to thread as each step is numbered on the machine. The bobbin also has a picture of how it goes in. The machine sews nice even stitches and has the capability of several other stitches as well and this is done very easily by just turning the dial and stitchsettings.

The machine also has a reverse button which is another easy to use feature. It also has a light but I wish the light covered a little more surface area! It came with all-of the basic needs for sewing including a couple of extra presser feet , extra bobbins, and a buttonhole attachment.

My first granddaughter who is 10 tried it out and caught on quickly especially with how to thread it because of the numbers on the machine. Using it was an extremely positive experience for her first time sewing! The manual for it is available on line which I downloaded for reference.

It comes with a cloth dustcover which is important to use to keep it free of dust particles in the air when not in use. Overall I found this to be a great machine for beginners, crafters and those with basic sewing machine needs.

Great quality as Singer is known for and also easy to use for those with little or no experience. I would highly recommend!.
