20 Best Sewing Machines For Kids (2023 Updated)

I fully admit that I have always wanted to pick up some kind of sewing skills just for some basic life skills, but have never known where to start. I was so excited when I found out about the Cool Maker Stitch ‘N Style Fashion Studio Sewing Machine Toy so that I could finally learn a few things about sewing! The setup is beyond simple, literally you just need to add batteries to the machine and you’re pretty much good to begin.

I stuck to the instruction to the T because I really had no clue what I was doing. I cut out the pattern that went along with the instructions (you’re given a full piece of fabric with marked lines to show exactly where you need to cut to make 6 different included projects) and then I was off to sewing! I wish there was a little more information along the way but I quickly made 3 different projects and honestly started to feel comfortable with using this sewing machine.

Overall I wish there was more instruction on the different parts of sewing, I honestly ended the projects feeling like I could finally open my full size machine sometime without being too intimated. I hope to find more refills for the machine but definitely think this is a great learning tool for anyone looking to learn some basic hands-on sewing machine skills.

Stitchanie, our NuiMo, was especially impressed with the cute little sewing machine kit called “Stitch ‘N’ Style Fashion Studio!” Of course, she loves the name, but also, a small, working sewing machine (with a smart sensor to keep you from totally screwing it up, and a safe design so it’s impossible to see through your finger like I did in Home Ec back in the day!) is just pretty awesome.

We were able to sew a little glasses case right away, but it would be nice if they gave you some practice scraps to try on first. (We’re pretty new at sewing). The little Hydro-Stickers (like temporary tattoos for fabric!) you use to decorate were the best part, though.

We love the little sponge you dab the designs with. The only problem is that while I understand the benefit of being able to wash them out and start again, we like ours and want them to stay. So maybe we’ll try a little Mod-Podge? Anyway, a very fun product and we look forward to making the other enclosed projects and then experimenting with our own.

Great first sewing machine. Granddaughter loves it. She has started sewing on the slow speed using her foot on the pedal. Several pieces of material provided, also a pattern for clothes for the doll.

The tension is difficult to adjust and the thread does stick behind the tension wheel, so make sure you slacken it off by hand when you need to pull the material from under the foot, otherwise the thread or needle will snap.

Needle threader is really useful. Needle safety cover is an essential safety feature for an 8 year old. A good present and value for money.

It was brilliant and very safe for my 8yr old Grand daughter. She loved it made Aldi sew skirt, with help. Only problem is she wants to wear the skirt all the while, as she is that pleased with it. I found the sewing machine was made very well.

Next she is going to make some Barbie clothes for the doll.

Quite tricky to set up. Came without any patterns for clothes? Once you do get it going it is ok. I feel it’s more a gimmick? Probably better going for a proper childs sewing machine and a barbie pattern book.

The tension that holds the bobbin in place isn’t working right. The machine works briefly and then jams up repeatedly. I had an older Singer sewing machines from 20 years ago and I never had any issues which I bought in 2001.

I decided to treat myself to a new machine and it’s awful. This one I’m having issues with the bobbin mechanism for some reason. I’ve tried different tension settings and it jams up every time with the thread getting stuck somewhere.

I really don’t think it’s built well. Since I waited too long to open the box and use the sewing machine, I’m past the 90 days. I have no choice but to donate the product. I called the store where I bought it and the customer service person was very nice, but she said she can’t take a sewing machine back that’s been opened and also it is past 90 days.

She instructed me to contact Singer and ask about warranty information. I did just email them and ask for a refund or credit to purchase a better sewing machine as I’m wondering if a heavy duty machine would be made better.

In my previous Singer sewing machine from 20 years ago, the bobbin was easily accessible in a horizontal layout directly under the needle with an easy metal door that slid open and closed. The way this new machine is designed I have to take off a big plastic container that feels cheap and then the bobbin is held vertically in a metal holder.

The entire metal holder has to be removed for me to change out the bobbin, and threading it through this metal holder looks like a really poor design. It’s not easy to wrap the thread through the metal bobbin holder and then I still need to physically keep it all together while I place the unit back into the sewing machine, and swing the small metal bobbin door open so it will pop back into place.

After reading some reviews that a 6 year old can use the machine, I am convinced the machine I bought was either broken and returned to the store without the sales people knowing it was opened, or there is a defect in manufacturing it.

The Singer 1304 Start is my newest and favorite acquisition after experiencing the shortages the Covid-19 pandemic caused in 2020. I’m older than 70 and have used many sewing machines over the years.

i bought the Start in-store at Jo Ann a few days ago. It weighs only nine pounfs, exactly right for me. I was pleased the needle was easy to thread due to the eye being front to back. I could thread it without using a needle threader.

The bobbin winder worked perfectly. The bobbin and bobbin case reminded me of my sewing days long ago and were easy for me handle. My first project was to shorten the hems of a pair of slacks. The straight stitches were perfect.

Just for fun I tried the various stitches and buttonhole foot on fabric scraps. They too were perfect. I love this straightforward machine and its reasonable price of $119. Some of the reviews I’ve read were complaints about the bobbin winder and the bobbin case.

Most likely these were user error problems, specifically incorrect threading. No machine will. produce perfect stitches if the the spool and bobbin are not threaded the right way. This is a manual machine.

No computers. No software involved. No tedious menus to search through. A beginner can use it with no fuss. With supervision a child can use it. An experienced sewist looking to simplify will appreciate this lightweight self.

explanatory machine. Its only decorative stitch is a pretty scallop stitch which requires only a simple turn of the manual stitch dial.

I have sewed for over seventy years and always on a Singer. I started on my Mother’s old treadle machine and upgraded as I grew. I have Macular Degeneration and when i went almost blind last summer i gave my current machine away.

With the injections they have my eyesight back to (almost) 20/40 and i wanted to start some small projects. Like shortening some pants. So i bought this little 1304 last week. Boy do i wish i had my old machine back! It took me hours to wind three bobbins and I finally with a couple of phone calls got the front piece off and the bobbin in the case and in the machine.

Now to thread the top – I can’t move the handwheel. I just don’t know what to do next. I would take it back but i threw away the box it came in. There is no help on the website for this problem. And yes, i did check that the bobbin spindle is in the correction position.

I am an experienced sewist, but as I am getting older and am in a small home now, I wanted to downsize to an easily portable machine. The reviews on other sites were really good, the price was reasonable, so it was purchased as a Christmas gift for me.

There is a big problem with the bobbin and top thread not hitting together in proper timing. I thought it was because I was sewing with a brushed knit and it was slipping. I tried several different fabrics, needles, settings.

no joy. I became very ill over the holiday season and until recently, so did not get it returned in time. Maybe I just got a bum machine as I have always sewn with singer machines with one exception.

That I have purchased 3 Singer models since that one means something.

I bought this machine 2 months ago for something to do during quarantine. And I’m very pleased that I did. I don’t mind the front load bobbin at all. I have explored the stitches and while it does not have much in the way of decorative stitches, it has been very consistent with its basics.

It has made from pattern to finish, several garments for me, no denim or anything heavy but summer clothes it can handle. I’ve actually used a darning foot on it for my guy’s jeans and it was wonderful with some denim thread.

No problem. I did use a bigger needle. Its not made for heavy duty use or quilting really but for my needs, it has been perfect. I up cycle clothes and it’s wonderful for that. Any struggles have all been operator error.

The tension is adjustable, and as long as it’s studied, like any new thing, it will work wonderfully for you too!.

i almost didn’t make it past winding the bobbin and threading the needle to actually sewing anything because the diagrams in the “quick start” were so inscrutably bad, not to mention there is literally no context provided for what you’re doing.

consider the absolute beginner, please! also, the manual itself was not provided–i had to figure out that i needed to download it. now, on to actually trying to sew something.

This was my first sewing machine and although it comes with picture instructions which are great, they are made for people who know where everything goes. There are many demonstration videos on you-tube and I fully recommend watching one of these videos.

I got confused with the instructions 1 and 2 because I didn’t realise that I needed to put cotton onto a bobbin and I got part way then was stumped. Fortunately my husband knew that I had to slide the bobbin to the right and he also told me that once it’s full it will stop itself and you don’t have to worry about it overfilling.

Then the bobbin case foxed me, I spent an hour trying to work out how to get the bobbin out of the bobbin case, gave up and went to bed. Next day I shared my frustrations with my husband who just popped the darned thing straight out as I stared in wonder.

My error was to pull out the lever at the back but that is what you do to stop it falling out. I do actually love everything about it and having the free arm to turn up trousers is brilliant it works perfectly.

I’m still not sure how all the stitches work but I expect it’s just a matter of playing around and watching videos. I would have given this 5 stars but that automatical needle threader is almost impossible even with you-tube tutorials.

I bought this mid-summer this year. It’s only been a few months and it’s been just a massive box of problems. I had to replace multiple parts to get it in okay working condition. Even then, if I don’t oil the machine literally every half an hour, it goes down hill.

The bobbin is constantly having issues. The tension is also never working. I change the tension dozens of times, only to have it work on the original setting I had it on hours later. It’s constantly jamming and making noises.

The machine shakes as I sew and the storage tray constantly falls off while I sew. It makes the entire sewing experience awful and I’ve always found sewing peaceful and enjoyable. It only someone’s finished the stitching and always skipped threads.

I changed my needle dozens of times and changed to different types of threads. Also, the weirdest thing about this machine is I cannot go over the slowest or second slowest speed. If I do, it immediately jams itself.

So I need to spend an unnecessarily long time sewing one line. I really wanted to make it work, but it didn’t. Overall, I had a terrible experience with the little amount of time I had with this machine.

This is a great sewing machine for a beginner. In my case, it is a great machine for an elderly person. My mom is 86 years old and her machine didn’t work any longer so she bought a new one at Walmart.

She was thinking a sewing machine, no matter the model, would be easy to use. After all she has been a sewer almost all her life. She was wrong about that. It was all digital and the manual was too difficult to understand.

(It wasn’t a Singer). I found her this machine and gave it to her for Mother’s Day and she couldn’t be happier. The only thing I wish it had was a manual. She doesn’t do computers so it’s impossible for her to look up anything.

I live too far away to help her so I wish you would consider “not saving” on paper, as you stated, and put a manual with the machines since not everyone has a computer.

I was so excited to be able to review this sewing machine as I had considered getting a sewing machine for the past three months. Years ago I did a lot of sewing making children clothes, drapes, quilts, pillow covers, and my clothes.

Well, that was 30 years ago and I haven’t sewn anything recently. My last sewing machine I gave to my daughter-in-law and now feel like I need one for altering clothes. No big projects are planned and I’m not sure that I will use all the fancy stitches on this machine but after just trying this machine, I Love It.

I set up the machine following the instructions for putting the thread on the machine and threading the needle. (It has a needle threaded that actually works. ) I also loaded the bobbin with thread. All of this was pretty easy by following the pictures.

I did some test runs trying some of the stitches that are offered. I was impressed with the neat secure stitch that was made by this machine with just a simple straight stitch. My first project will be to hem a bedskirt that I feel is a couple of inches to long.

The arm of the machine comes off to make it easy to sew sleeves or hem pant legs. The machine has a light in the needle area just like most machines and also has a lever on the front which enables you to do a backward stitch to secure your stitch line.

I do wish that a longer period of time were given to review items like this Janome sewing machine because there are so many functions and possibilities to check out. Because there are so many choices to use this machine I deducted one star due to not being able to use all the offerings of the machine.

BUT. I DO LOVE IT.

I love Janome sewing machines. I own a large expensive all the bells and whistles Janome and can tell you, their products are awesome. That being said I decided on this simple machine to have available for friends and family during crafting sessions.

The packaging was great and I received this machine in perfect condition. Once I had it unpacked I had it up and sewing in no time at all. The instructions are simple to understand and the illustrations are very helpful.

All the items that need to be set up, (thread spool, bobbin, foot pedal) took very little time. Winding the bobbin and threading the machine is so easy a beginner would have no trouble getting started.

Selecting a stitch, width and tension is also very easy. I mended a torn tee shirt and the stitching is very uniform and neat. I decided to make a small cosmetic style bag and at one point had to sew through three layers of cotton material and it was a breeze.

Perfect stitching, perfect tension. I didn’t use the button hole maker and did not get to the zipper part of my project yet, but I have no doubt they will be easy as well. The machine is small and has attractive colors on it.

The body is well made. It has a small storage place for the attachments that come with the machine. Now, why I only gave it 4 stars. The first thing I noticed was no reverse. This was not a problem for me since I learned to sew on machines with no reverse.

It does take a little more time to turn the fabric and turn it again to finish off a seam but for the quality of the machine it is not that big a deal. Next I noticed that certain parts of the machine had parts that appear to be questionable as to their durability.

The thread spool attachment is plastic and where it attaches sticks out and does not fold in or down like on my more expensive model. This would be a concern when transporting. The foot pedal is very thin light weight plastic although the electrical cord seems to be very high quality.

The light weight causes the pedal to be less stable and moves around a lot. Last, the attachments snap on and off and are made of lighter plastic and I wonder how long they will last with continuous changing.

But if you are careful and consider these issues, you should have a great time using this little workhorse of a machine. I would recommend it very highly.

I received this machine today and ran it through its paces. There were several things I liked and a few that I did not. It runs smoothly and the stitches are nice and even. It also has a selection of decorative stitches.

I am a fan of the drop in bobbin and this has it. I also like the small window in the needle plate that allows you to see how much bobbin thread remains. It is definitely a plus that you do not have to remove the free arm in order to access the bobbin (as you do in some other models by Janome.

The four-step buttonhole is easy to complete. I am not a fan, however, of the snap on/off feet. I much prefer the “magnetized” set-up where the magnetized foot is easily released and a new one picked up.

Also, the feet that are included are plastic and do not seem particularly sturdy. This is also the case with the bobbin winder pin. It is made out of plastic – metal would probably hold up much better, especially on a part that will receive constant use.

The plastic spool pin attaches to the top right rear of the machine and “sticks out” a bit. If you travel with your machine (classes, vacations, etc. ), it is a set up for it to break off or receive damage.

A retractable metal spool pin would have been a much better option. All in all, I am pleased with my purchase. I believe that for the price, the Janome MOD-19 is a good basic machine. I intend to use this for a spare or travel machine.

It would also be appropriate for a beginner.

The Cool Maker Style and Sewing Machine is a product advancement on the orignal Cool Maker Sewing Machine. The machine itself is essentially the same unit as before with a triple needle that “sews” fabrics by pulling the together effectively melding it together.

The needles are ultra strong so breakage is not a factor unlike real sewing machines. They are also fully encased in a sleeve of clear hard plastic so little fingers cannot come in contact with the up and down motion of the needles.

The concept is similar to real sewing, two pieces of fabric placed together and the child guides them through the needle sone to sew the pieces together. The Style Machine incorporates the addition of “thread” to the mix.

It is really thin yarn that is pushed into the fabric, or in the case of my daughters first project, tule of which she made a small pouch to carry her small change, candy and ipod. Using the thread makes sewing with different fabrics easier however I think that is still somewhat limited.

Before, felt was about the only fabric available to the tear/meld design of the sewing action. Over all, it is a cool concept. Projects are simple to understand and execute for the child that is interested in fabric craft creation.

The idea could ignite some passion in those who might want to take up fashion design in the future. However, the replay-ability of the toy sewing machine may be limited in scope by the toy like factors of the machine.

The ability to only use some fabrics, the lack of actually sewing with functionality of the end product and the limited ability of the small “sewing” tools provided. My daughter had to resort to her father for help in getting some ribbon pulled through her pouch project where the plans for the project were larger than the tool provided.

Frustration could become a thing and adult supervision is recommended from my stand point if only to subvert the emotions of a child who may have difficulty producing a project. Still, I would recommend this sewing craft machine.

Especially for parents who enjoy crafting and want to introduce the concept of sewing to their children.

The Cool Maker Sewing Machine is an easy to use (once you figure out what your doing), compact, igneous craft machine. It is perfect for kids who want to be able to create small first time items that would normally require sewing (small doll pillows, small mesh drawstrings bags, etc), but not for those who are expecting to actually learn to sew or sew their own designs.

It is also compact, so perfect for taking with you to grandma’s house or to a friends sleepover party for everyone to use. I will say that based on the name (Cool Maker Sewing Machine), my daughter was expecting to learn to sew and actually be able to sew things.

This machine does not do either of those things, but it does have it’s own crafty way of lettings kids make things out of yarn, mesh, and felt into smaller versions of items that would normally require sewing.

Once my daughter adjusted her expectations, she was extremely excited at all the options of things she could do. Below is our full experience using the Cool Maker. My daughter, the crafter, is 7 years old and enjoys doing a variety of crafts, but it by no means an experienced or superiorly capable crafter.

The machine is rated of children 6 and up. First, we created a pom-pom. She was able to follow the instructions herself to create the pom-pom, though she did need help tying the knot (tip to have parent do this is on the opposite page after all the instructions).

She was expecting the Cool Maker to “do something”; however, you just wrap the string yourself around the attachment and tie a knot. Next she made the unicorn stuffed pillow, the first “sewing” project.

Now this ended up being a little confusing to her at first, as she has seen me sew on my real sewing machine and expected the machine to actual stitch thread. There is not any real stitching. For some parts of the projects you lay yarn over the items and the machine uses three needles that go up and down through the fabric and yarn repeatedly.

It is not running the yarn through the fabric. It is simply pushing the yarn down into the fabric repeatedly. The bad news is, this means anything “stitched together” can be pulled about very easily with minimal force (exception to this is yarn through mesh).

The good news is, any accidents can be fixed pretty easily, just pull apart and try again. Also, since there is no real stitching, the machine will not move the fabric at all. She was scared at first that it would start pulling, like on Mommy’s sewing machine, and her fingers would get pulled in.

The machine does zero pulling since the needles are just going up and down through the fabric. In fact, she need to pull the fabric very hard through the machine to stitch along the lines. It is impossible to follow the guided lines and there is no real way to curve it as the lines have been drawn, but this doesn’t really matter since there is no real stitching.

You can’t really tell whether the lines were followed at all in the end, so no concern with trying to make pretty straight lines either. As a second note, the needles are completely surrounded by a cover.

No matter how hard she could try, there is absolutely no way she would be able to get her fingers in contact with the needles. So you can feel perfectly safe letting your child take this to a friends house and them working on the projects alone (though I would make sure hair is tied back as long hair may stick to mesh on a surface and then be pushed into machine, this would be one of those extremely strange and bizarre incidents, but sometimes my kids likes to try anything).

The first sewing project aggravated her some (trying to figure out how to pull the fabric hard through the machine while trying to line everything up). She also had to pay attention to when she was using the yarn over the stitching (for putting embellishments on) and when you only go through fabric – no yarn (when joining from and back of fabric together you don’t have yarn on top) as she originally expected to always use the yarn.

But after completing the first project and realizing that she couldn’t really screw it up while she was figuring out how to get the stuff through the machine, she was much happier and enjoyed all the future projects.

If you happen to have some spare thin felt pieces of fabric lying around, it may be worthwhile to let them pull that through the machine first, so they can get a feel for what they are doing and how it looks in the end.

It will likely make any projects easier as any concerns will be alleviated and they can just have fun. As a note, when stitching felt pieces together it’s best to pull them through the machine, whereas when using the yarn you have to push them the machine, so let them get used to both and when to do which.

Because the needles are simply pushing through the different layers, you will want to pull the fabrics through the machine slowly to make a stronger seam or connection. So, let them go slow (though I wouldn’t leave it in one spot forever as you may end up with holes).

If you find that an area wasn’t stitched well or at all, no biggie, just put that spot back in the machine and turn back on. Now because there is no actual stitching, the Cool Maker cannot be used as a kid’s sewing machine.

They aren’t going to be able to learn to sew or sew real fabric together with thread. You will need to buy either other kits for the machine for making other projects or buy similar yarn, felt and materials for them make other like projects.

We went to the craft store and bought a pack of 36 pieces of felt with different designs on it for $4. My daughter cut out her pieces to “sew” together to make a purse and sleeping bag for her doll. The Cool Maker Sewing machine worked perfectly on them, and on the store felt it almost looked like stitching on the back from pushing the felt pieces back and forth through each other.

6 inch rolls of tulle are also inexpensive and come in every color, design, and sparkle and can work perfectly as the mesh included in the kit. They can have some creativity of making their own projects, as long as they realize it’s not a real seam and so cannot make things like clothes.

A doll handbag, scarf, or even a sleeping sack might be something for them to try and design and make with their own supplies! Overall, the Cool Maker Sewing Machine is a wonderful starter crafting machine for kids to make sew-like projects.

I am a seriously craft challenged mom with girls who love to create and the Sew N Style Sewing Machine is a wonderful and easy way to create things together. Other than batteries, the kit comes with everything you need to make several projects.

For a family with more than one interested child, I was extra excited to see how easy it was to divide up the projects to make it “fair. ” I was also pleased at the initial number of projects meaning you don’t immediately have to go buy extra projects.

The projects themselves were fun and took just enough time. My girls are 6 and 8 so if it takes TOO long they will lose interest, but done too quick and it’s boring. I would say each project took about 15 min.

It’s also a fantastic and safe introduction to a sewing machine to learn how to guide fabric, cut patterns, etc without having to worry about bobbins or needles. Overall I was very pleased. I am not giving it 5 stars, though, because there are ways it could improve.

Primarily, the instructions. Nothing really explained HOW it worked which would have been helpful to know to prevent frustration at the start. The needles push the yarn”thread” through the fabric so that is sews together.

But this means you must move the fabric VERY slowly (much slower than typical sewing machines) so that the needles have sufficient time to pierce the yarn and fabric over and over. We figured this out, but it took some practice (and some 6year old tears were shed as things didn’t initially stay together).

Overall I am pleased. I would buy again and plan to buy additional projects. I would recommend to friends with young children who are interested in sewing and creating but need something easier, safer, and more simply managed than a traditional sewing machine.

The name doesn’t lie! This sewing machine is super easy to use. I am a beginner with very little experience previous to buying Janome. The instructions poster that is comes with is helpful but watching a video on how to thread a bobbin was more useful.

I feel like I will have this sewing machine for years to come. It doesn’t have too many stitching options but that is okay. It comes with other presser feet ( I am assuming for zippers and rolled hems?)I feel like I got the best machine to start growing my sewing skills on.

I taught myself to sew on this machine back in August. I’ve sewn lots of clothes, mainly with mid-weight fabrics—have yet to try anything heavyweight like denim. Knocking a star off because I cannot, for the life of me, unscrew the needle plate.

The screws are in so tight that I will have to get an angled arm for my drill…not ideal. I also agree with others that the bobbin is finicky. I have nothing to compare it to, but it seems to bunch up and give me trouble more often than one would want.

I love this sewing machine. It’s great for a beginner. It has some basic stitches and I have used it to sew entire dresses. The size is good for compact areas that may not accommodate a full size machine.

Being janome,it works really well. I got it for $10 at goodwill and it will forever be the best thrift score I’ve ever found.

I knew that I wanted it to be a functioning machine. So that would cost money for additional parts. I have bought a power cord, foot pedal and bobbin cover(on backorder). It really because I like the Janome brand and Hello Kitty.

I think I got what was advertised. I didn’t anticipate the amount of money it would cost for the missing costs. It was a more than I expected.

Cute as a button excellent quality machine I love this little machine. Not only does it live up to the Janome name but it is also cute as a button. Its a basic machine and great for beginners or for those planning to do just basic sewing and mending.

For that purpose it is more then adequate. The bobbin winding and threading is different from the more sophisticated Janome machines but all it takes is time to read the manual and figure that out I am very happy with this little machine and would definitely reccomend it.

I am completely new to sewing and the use of a machine and wanted something that had excellent top quality features without the bulk of a large machine and this one has turned out to be a dream so far.

It is compact and much lighter than others I’ve looked at and has so many great features that are both high end and easy for beginners like me to understand. I really like the LED lighting which is nice and bright and helpful for someone like me who has vision issues.

I also like that it has twin needles. It has a nice little storage compartment that I was able to put the items that came in the box and some other things. The automatic needle threader is an absolute life saver and saves me time and the front loading bobbin as well because it’s easy to use and helps keep the surface smooth.

It has 24 built in stitches to allow you a range of different techniques on different types of fabrics and the variable stitch length gives you the distance needed to do short or long range stitching effortlessly.

It’s really nice that it has a 4 step buttonhole with the steps clearly outlined on the dial for easy learning and use. There is a cool reverse lever that actually lets you sew in reverse too, which I haven’t had the opportunity to try yet.

You can easily slide off the accessories compartment for free arm designing and gives you more access to work on smaller type projects. You can also drop the feeds to sew in free motion which is nice.

The construction of this machine is made super durable and long lasting with a metal frame that is heavy duty but yet lighter weight. I have only worked on several very easy projects just to get some use time and learn the machine but I’m very happy that my experience has been so easy because the machine is super easy to learn and pretty much does all the work for me.

A nice price point too I might add.

i purchased this in july. it worked great at first. it is not good in my opinion if you want to sew through multiple layers of fabric. i have so many problems with my bobbin thread bunching up or my top thread breaking in the middle of a seam.

now my thread is getting caught on my bobbin holder and not tighting properly. idk if its a tension problem because i was able to sew regular seams with no problems. i am a rather new sewist, so it might be me but i just have not had a good experience with this machine.

i always end up finishing by hand which negates the purpose of buying a machine. i think if you dont sew very often, it will be fine. i like that it has so many stitch options, threading is easy, when it does work it sews nicely, and generally the features are ok.

I’m glad I able to give this machine a try because I want to start my teenage daughter with a simple sewing machine that can used without a hassle. This machine is easy to use, it can be used with beginners to pro sewing.

It’s all I was expecting.

I bought this for my granddaughter for her 7th birthday. She likes sewing with me, or watching me use my sewing machine. She isn’t old enough to handle my machine. I worry she will get her finger under the needle.

This machine bogs down if one doesn’t feed it thru smoothly, but is easy to get it going again. I thought she would have trouble making the projects by herself, but after I showed her how to make one, she was able to make others with no help.

She surprised me. She loves it! To make it easier for her, I cut the patterns apart and put each one in a separate zip lock bag along with the intended special fabric pieces needed. The scissors aren’t much good, but I gave her some I had which were appropriate for her age.

I didn’t like the idea of her using a marker to draw around the patterns on fabric so I included a pen which shows up well on the fabric.

I got this for my 10 year old daughter for Christmas. I was a little hesitant because you can only use certain material. But I dug out all my FELT scraps and she had a blast sewing and cutting out things.

She didn’t need any adult supervision. She sewed all day on Christmas and couldn’t wait to sew the next day. So I would definitely recommend this to anyone. It says ages 6-11. I think I would say more like 8-11 I don’t think my 6 year old would spend as much time with it.

The batteries seemed to last forever as well. 5 stars for sure!!!.

Bought this for my daughter in February, and she has really enjoyed it! We even bought a refill pack so that she could sew more projects. It’s great for kids that want to learn to sew. It helps them get used to leading the fabric under a needle.

From what I understand, you can only use the specially made fabric for this machine. It’s already pre-cut and ready to sew. Makes it very easy for the child, and parent helping them. Love this toy!.

This machine sews beautifully. It is my go to for any thing thick or bulky. I just love it. The stitches are even and nice. I use it for mending my grandkids clothes, for rope baskets, quilting and more.

I wish I had bought this a long time ago. You can’t miss on this machine.

Nice machine. It was extremely daunting at first particularly since the bobbin is not a top load. I had problems figuring out the tension but now that I have I really like the machine. Once I do a couple more things with it, it will probably be my go-to machine.

Absolutely love the sewing machine. High quality machine. Stitches very fast. Heavy machine but does not jar the sewing table. Machine is quiet compared to others.

I was looking for a starter sewing machine that wouldn’t be too expensive and this one delivers! It was really easy to use and learn on (lots of youtube videos available). It is hard to set the speed and I wish it had a speed cap/control because it does tend to go fast once you step on the pedal.

Otherwise I am very happy with this and think it’s a great buy for a beginner and someone who is more advanced. I just fixed a corduroy skirt and made a linen shirt and it has held up great for both fabrics.

I bought this as a gift for my 11 year old daughter. My mother who is an advanced quilter and has been sewing for decades helped me choose it for her. We wanted something sturdier than something you would find at Walmart but not as expensive as a Bernina.

This seems to fit the bill.

I love my new sewing machine. There are 2 things I would change, however. One is the needle that threads front to back. I can’t get the auto threader to work. My hand gets in the way and it’s hard to see with progressive lenses.

The same thing happens when I try to thread it by hand. A right to left direction would be better. The other change I would make is to put the lever for the presser foot on the left side, freeing the right hand to manipulate the fabric, cut with scissors,etc.

This machine works well, but is definitely finicky. It seems that it doesn’t like to go thru thick fabrics. I am still playing around with it, but having issues at times with three threads sticking out at the end of a seam.

Rethreading seemed to fix this, but also having troubles with thread knotting up underneath. Definitely not the workhorse I was hoping for. I do love the embroidery option – especially the hearts. I like how the needle automatically goes down at the end of stitching – it’s easy to rotate your block.

Hoping that it will improve over time and getting to know how to use it. Fingers crossed.

This machine is perfect for beginners & experienced people alike. Everything about this machine is in the name, simple to use, simple to thread the needle & the bobbing. It’s compact &. Light if your wanting to transport it around.

I wanted a machine that would cover the array of projects I have in mind from making blankets & pillows through to stitching leather waistcoats. Delighted with this purchase.

The Sew Simple line of Singer sewing machines are not minis, but are light and easy to store aware and pull out when you need them. They accept all standard size Singer accessories, like needles and feet, and do hundreds of stitches by just spinning two dials to different settings.

They are husky, too, of sturdy stock, and I think it will serve me well for the rest of my life. You can download the user guide from the Singer website and you should actually read it before you start using the machine.

There are several very good YouTube videos on how to use the 3223 which I also recommend you watch as they show you how to quickly get started and how to correctly use the stitch programming dials. The videos helped a lot.

I’m very experienced when it comes to sewing. I’ve made 2,476 face masks, dozens of purses, quilts, clothes, ect. This machine can be great for some super simple stuff but sometimes it has a very strange tension problem and none of the dials change anything when it does this.

The tension dial doesn’t change the tension when it’s freaking out and then it randomly stops for a while. I really don’t get it. I have tried everything. Even the repair shop didn’t know what was wrong with it.

I have only sewn a practice piece to get a feel for the machine and stitch controls, but no buttonholes or using the walking foot yet. I no longer sew on a regular basis, but need a strong, reliable, smooth machine with a moderate range of regular and stretch stitches when I want to sew a home project or make repairs.

Based on the tests I am happy with this machine for the price. The final test for me will be reliability and durability – and time will tell. I chose Baby Lock based on past experience with their serger, and after watching many tutorials online using the mechanical Baby Lock machines.

I watched the machine in motion for any sign of rough operation, any instability in the feed dogs guiding the fabric, the thickness of fabric (like upholstery and denim) and listening to the machine motor.

I decided to take a chance of ordering online since there is no retailer near me. So, at least initially, I am very satisfied with the quality of my tests, the features of the machine, and the price.

A “returning” sewer, I wanted a dependable and capable machine. I reviewed many, over several weeks. I decided against a machine with a motherboard, due to my experience with short-lived computers. It’s sad that I didn’t feel safe to go to stores and test-drive in these pandemic times.

I chose a mechanical machine that can be serviced locally — so I had researched local service providers as well. I did not want an extremely expensive machine. This Zeal is a good compromise. Many people love their Baby Locks and it’s a first for me, but familiar to a Singer or Kenmore user.

I love the way it “feels” when it sews, and the stitches are beautiful. So far, using it is straightforward and pleasant, with a few newer features that I will enjoy. Time is the real test. Ask me again in a year!.

Love the Baby Lock Zeal! It replaced a student Singer I bought in 1993 right after graduating. I like the non-digital machines because most of my sewing is simple without a ton of crazy decorative stitches (I sew clothes and quilt tops).

Nice bright LED light. The storage box is on the bottom instead of the back, so you can access it while a project is on the machine. The machine is so quiet while running (my Singer sounded like a jet on a tarmac); my daughter even noticed that she could still hear the TV while I was sewing in the other room.

The button hole system is so awesome! I haven’t figured out how to use the needle threader yet, but I’ll figure it out eventually.

I bought the machine on sale at Aldi. Had not sewn for years and wanted to sew for my new granddaughter. The first three outfits I made went well except the buttonholer worked on the practice but not on the garment.

After ripping out twice, I went with snaps. Yesterday a needle bent on thick fabric and I replaced it. Today the needle got stuck down while sewing. I cut the threads and got it to come up but now when the needle tries to go down, it hits something in the bobbin assembly.

I took that apart and cleaned it, but after putting everything back, it still won’t work. The repair shops in my area won’t fix it and said it was junk. Now I plan to return it and buy a better brand.

I bought this sewing machine when I first began to learn, I did small things like pillows, and pillow cases, but after a good 2 months of using it it broke. The bobbin began to get really messed up and I tried getting new bobbins, rethreading the machine, even took it to a professional and it still didn’t help.

he bobbin would get snagged, not come out straight or even could be sewn on lose. I finally went back to Joann’s and asked to exchange it. After that I got a new one and this one worked fine until about 4 months into it when the same thing happened again! I watched video online, cleaned the whole thing, rethreaded, etc.

And it still did not work properly. I then just stopped using it because I was gifted a vintage sewing machine that works wonderful, a sewing machine from the 70s works better than this one did! I would not recommend buying this machine due to the daily break downs.

There are other machines for the same price that are better. Even though the first few months are fine, it is not worth the time, money, and frustration.
