Anthony Horowitz once again displays his admirable talents and razor-sharp wit with Mayflower Murders, the second of his Susan Ryeland/Atticus Pund Mysteries. As in the first of the series, Magpie Murders, Horowitz generously offers two mysteries in one in this sequel.

This outing reintroduces Susan Ryeland, a former book editor who worked with famous author Alan Conway, now serving as a small hotel owner in Crete. She is exhausted by the daily grind of her new life and uncertain about her future relationship with co-owner and lover Andreas.

As she is pondering her options and regretting leaving the publishing world, she is approached by a couple with an intriguing proposition. The Trehearnes are looking for their missing daughter, whose last known activities included discovering something revelatory in one of Conway’s books.

Apparently, Conway’s “Atticus Pund Takes the Cake” is a mystery heavily influenced by a true crime that took place eight years ago at their hotel, Farlingaye Hall. Their daughter, Cecily, was married on the same day as a murder took place on the property in Suffolk.

The case was quickly closed with the arrest of an immigrant employee. Cecily hinted that she was researching something she found in the fictional story that convinced her that it was a wrongful conviction.

She disappeared before she could tell anyone what she had discovered. Since Conway is deceased, the Trehearnes hope that Susan might be able to help them uncover what Cecily may have deduced from the Pund novel.

Her curiosity piqued, Susan views this timely invitation as way to take some time to re-evaluate her choices, make some much-needed cash, and learn a bit more about her former irascible author. She is also moved by Cecily’s story and wants to help find out what has happened to the young woman.

Upon arriving at Farligaye Hall, Susan feels distinctly unwelcome. As she digs into the history of the true crime, she also begins poring through the Atticus Pund novel searching for.

Anthony Horowitz once again delivers another brilliant murder mystery with Moonflower Murders. Continuing his book-within-a-book format, Moonflower Murders features two novels the present day story of former book editor Susan Ryeland and Atticus Pund Takes the Case, one of the novels she edited for author Alan Conway.

When the daughter of hoteliers Lawrence and Cecily goes missing, they reach out to Susan as they fear her disappearance relates to a murder from eight years ago that occurred at their hotel and is also loosely featured in the third Atticus Pund novel.

As Susan reacquaints herself with the novel, she digs into the murder at the hotel, trying to decipher if the wrong man was convicted of the crime, and what that has to do with the disappearance of daughter Cecily.

Moonflower Murders contains a very strong Agatha Christie vibe. Horowitz sprinkles several Christie-esque Easter eggs throughout the story. Atticus Pund, the detective in the fictional novel featured in the middle of this book, is very reminiscent of Christies Hercule Poirot.

Horowitz does an incredible job of weaving together two different plots that also tie into each other. He builds two sets of incredible characters, and is amazing at delivering enough red herrings to keep the reader guessing for two different mysteries! Fans of Christie and other classic whodunnits will love this book.

Another excellent novel from Anthony Horowitz. Well written , every page interesting and rather gripping. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a literary mystery.

This book enlightens us about the myth of land of opportunities and hard work. These myths survive because a lot of people heard of self made millionaires. Theyre usually the ones that perpetuate the illusion of hard work, good ideas produce $ucce$$.

Without proper opportunities, like being in the right place at the right time and knowing someone who can propel you in the right direction, just by ones own merit doesnt take you very far.

A very good read! If you’ve watched the show, forget season two, about the only thing it took from Hidden Bodies are the names and I don’t understand that at all because it’s a much better story in the book.

It picks up right where we left Joe and removes the cheesy things that try to make him at all good. He’s a worst and it’s the best read!.

I get really tired of the prints that have “NOW A NETFLIX ORIGINAL” printed onto the cover. I searched the whole store for a copy without it, but there was not one available. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the book when I went looking for it initially – well before Netflix picked up the titles.

I have trouble finding anything that isn’t “in the spotlight” at BAM. I know it’s kinda snobby, it’s really just a pet peeve. The book itself is very well written – Kepnes does not disappoint!!.

I prefer to read then watch but this was decent! I’d recommend despite seeing the show first then seeking out the book. Narrative is close enough and still makes me shudder at points of, “OH SHI” both in book and show.

Worth buying used at the very least.

I really enjoyed this book! It was cool to see female characters with the main focus in the time of Jesus. There are also some biblical events woven in that made me reconsider the context of these stories.

It just sort of brought some humanity to what I know about figures in the Bible. Either way, it’s a nice read from both the historical fiction and the Jewish/Christian perspectives. Plus, the cover is absolutely gorgeous!!.

Engaging from the beginning to the end. A great read .

I liked this one a lot! I found it more enjoyable than “The Family Upstairs”. I’ve read others saying they could predict the ending early on, but I actually did not. Now with that said, I didn’t think it would be the true obvious choice.

I actually found the true story behind it all to be rather sad. Bullying is definitely a problem, and while I know two wrongs don’t make a right, it did somehow feel like karma was served. And it also felt a bit sad knowing that Jenna’s mom really was paranoid beyond reason.

It’s a quick read, so if you’re a fan of Jewell’s work, I definitely recommend this one, too!.

This was a psychological thriller like no other that I have ever read. Just when I thought I had things figured out, the author threw in another unexpected twist. The characters were good and evil or innocent and unassuming.

My favorite character was Joey who metamorphosed into a lovable sister by the end of the book. Her brother Jack was almost an absent character, but he played a big role in the actual plot. I heartily disliked Tom Fitzwilliam from the beginning because he seemed such a shady character.

His son, Freddie, seemed to be a neglected loner, so he is another one that the readers will need to watch carefully as the plot unfolds. This book’s plot is developed like a thread that is unraveling from a garment.

You see the thread and you pull on it and think that you have found the problem. The author is a master at misleading clues and innuendoes. This is a fantastic book for those who enjoy psychological suspense! It is so good that you will want to buy it on a weekend and plan to spend the weekend absorbed by it! I read The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell, and didn’t particularly enjoy it, but thought I would giver her another shot. I didn’t enjoy this book either. Could be personal preference, but I felt like the story dragged a bit.

I also felt like there wasn’t a clear narrator, or character to follow. It would have been fine if it was clearly laid out in the beginning as multiple perspectives, but it feels like you start out rooting for one character, and that character becomes less and less important.

Or maybe I personally don’t enjoy the author. I’d recommend giving it a shot! Everyone’s tastes are different.

I was hooked with the characters just felt that the storyline was drawn out a little too long. I had to google some of the UK terms to understand the context. Loved the ending.

This was the first time I’ve read this author. She is British and used a lot of terminology that I had to guess the meaning of the words. It was interesting but not one of my favorite romance novels.

I felt the description on the cover of the book was misleading. I wouldn’t recommend to others.

I was looking for a fun summer read and my boss loaned this this book to me. Love that the chapters are short and easy to get through. Cute story and will likely end up being a movie. If so, I will definitely go see it!.

I recommend Circe by Madeline Miller to anyone who wishes to plunge into the tales of Greek Mythology. It will introduce you to the story of gods and goddesses, wars and warriors. Just like her former novel “The Song of Achilles” it is a modern retelling of an age old story, and it introduces the characters as if for the first time, making it easier for total beginners.

Unlike her first novel, that was equally good, I felt Circe had a more gripping hold, that would make it impossible to put the books down. The story as told by Circe, a goddess and witch, offered views of laws and prophecies, exiles and verdicts, from a female gaze.

Rather than depicting heroes and gods of the past flawless, Miller has made sure to limn the various characters with their flaws and mistakes, that lends the whole tale a tincture of reality. I loved every chapter and page of the book and the language employed in it, that traversed me through a world reigned by Gods and Heroes, teeming with love and passion, just as much as corruption, betrayal and arrogance.

“Witches are not so delicate,” I said. Circe is hands-down one of the best books I have ever read. I instantly fell in love with the story and characters and Madeline Miller’s distinctive prosaic style of writing (which makes this book easily quotable).

Circe is a story of a lesser god outshone by those around her. After discovering witchcraft she uses her new-found powers to turn her old lover’s wife into a monster. Threatened by these powers, Zeus orders Circe to be banished to the island Aiaia for eternity.

First and foremost, it is a story of one woman’s life and her journey through love, motherhood, pain and desire. There was also a sort of satisfactory feeling when Circe , who has been overlooked and belittled her whole life, finally gets some vengeance.

I cannot express in words how good it was. All I can say is READ IT. Especially if you love mythology. 5/5 stars.

This novel was absolutely beautiful. As a Madeline Miller fan from the Song of Achilles days, I had high expectations for this book, which were absolutely met! You are dragged along with Circe to experience her world and her life; all the good, bad, and ugly that entails.

The emotion in this story is so real, and can make it difficult to read at times, especially when feeling alongside her, the graphic nature of the violence that is committed against our MC. (Content warning for people with a history of sexual assault, please be aware that this book does have a scene later in the novel that portrays an assault quite accurately, and can be distressing to read).

The tragic tale of Circe that has been reimagined by Miller is absolutely another hit, I can’t wait to reread this after all my friends have borrowed it.

Super book Talking to Strangers I love all author Malcolm Gladwells books. His unique perspective helps the reader to see things in different ways. He opens your mind to accepting new ideas! This book allows you to unlearn ways of making assumptions about people you dont know.

Maybe I missed something but I failed to recognise anything useful in this book. His style is annoying. His use of confected mystery disguised as some form of wisdom and analyses simply confuses his message and his message is never really clear.

If the best that can be said is that his commentary is thought provoking, that is a poor excuse for this writing. I can’t understand the acclaim he receives.

Its a must read. If it can change some of my views in life especially when needing to engage with negative, egotistical or just angry all over people, this is a whole other way of comuticating with others.

Taught me its not necessarily where they are in their temporment. It helps so much where we are at, in our most inner core. That could change so many circumstances. Out of all the books in my life this is in my top 3.

I’m 65 now. I read it aprox 5yrs ago & saw the shows on Oprah. I have read it twice marking it up all over. Ive tried to gather a few other people to do a book club just to read “A New Earth” finally I just found 3 people excited to read it with me.

I’ve even volunteered to gift the box to them. As Ive gifted many with it.

I picked this up many many years ago, actually in audio book and I couldn’t even get through the first few chapters. This time i read together with the Oprah series on youtube and it really hit home.

Such a great book! I know everyone always says the book is better than the movie, and that’s true 99% of the time. This one is 1000x better.

I read my first Sarah Dessen book when I was twelve years old. A friend gifted me Along for the Ride for my birthday and the very next morning I was halfway into it. From twelve to almost nineteen, Sarah Dessen’s books are ones I’ve cried over and laughed and fallen in love with as I got to know, time and again, Auden, Eli, Remy, Dexter, Annabel, Owen, Macy, Wes, Ruby and all these other couples that taught me so much.

I remember myself over the last seven years through Sarah Dessen’s book, and it’s truly a magical feeling. Which is why, among the BOX FULL OF BOOKS that Penguin India sent me last week, the one I was most excited for was Once and for All.

To Sum It Up: Once and for All was the heart wrenching journey of a girl brought up by cynics who are waiting to be proven wrong and trying to figure out if putting your heart out there is worth the risk while managing chaotic weddings and bad first dates.

Long Story Short: I LOVED IT. This was definitely one of my top five Sarah Dessen books! Let’s break it Down: WRITING: Sarah has this distinctive, subtle form of writing that I’ve loved since book one that all of a sudden throws these beautiful and true lines at you.

I’ve loved this BRILLIANT author’s BRILLIANT writing since I was 12 and I don’t think it’ll ever change. PLOT: The one thing I love about Dessen’s books is that NONE of them are JUST Boy Meets Girl. There is always more to the story that just one romance, often involving a heart breaking personal journey from the girl’s side and it’s ALWAYS SO REAL.

It makes me connect with all of her characters in a way I usually don’t and I love it. CHARACTERS: I loved Louna from chapter one. I’m probably like her, a cynic until proven otherwise, scared to let what I’m feeling show.

I LOVE Sarah Dessen. I will read whatever she comes out with no matter how old I am. What I really love about her books is I am immediately taken back to 16 with every one. I thought this was a perfect summer read and very relevant to today’s culture.

I don’t really understand why no one really liked this book, I think it is one of my favorites. Also let’s talk about the names in this book because they are kind of strange Louna, Ambrose, Jilly, Michael Salem??? However, I did feel toward the end the book was dragging on.

You already knew what was going to happen and were literally just waiting for Louna to stop being such a baby, but I understand. All in all, I really did like this book and I will continue reading Sarah Dessen even as a twenty-something female.

I loved Louna’s romantic relationship with Ethan and her evolving relationship with Ambrose. These three characters and (discovering if) my hopes for their futures were the only things that made me continue reading the story.

Although the plot to the story wasn’t enjoyed by myself, I think many others would like it. My favourite part of the storyline was the ending, not because the story ended but it was what I hoped for and envisioned.

Another beautiful novel by Kristin Hannah. The story follows Julia, a disgraced child psychiatrist living in Malibu, whos called home to the small forest town of her childhood by her police chief sister, Ellie, to work with a wild feral girl who had been living in the untamed forests of the Pacific Northwest.

Everything about this book works perfectlyfrom the charming warmth of this little town, to the colorful characters and vivid descriptions. Like all of Kristins books, youll still be thinking about it long after you finish.

I’m a huge fan of Kristin Hannah’s work, and the only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because it didn’t immediately grab me. I was about half way through before it became a book “I couldn’t put down”.

Once I got to that point, it was wonderful! Was definitely worth the read!.

This is a well written story mainly about a “feral” child. There are many interesting sub-plots, such as sibling rivalry, wrongful imprisonment, parental rights, and the media’s affect on people’s lives.

I highly recommend reading this book.

this book was amazing, it was beautifully written much like the last book ‘call me by your name’ i loved the poetry and the way the plot left off was brilliant. i would deffinetly re read this book 100 more times, witch is saying something given im not one for re-reading things.

this book was to die for, i loved every part of it, the happy, the sad, the suspencefull all of it.

If your expecting a beautiful follow up to CMBYN then you are in for a disappointment. Although it gives an end to the first book it strays completely off course for more than half the book. Ellies character doesnt seem the same and its all rather sad.

Im hoping the film sequel – Not taken from this book will be more fulfilling. As a stand alone book it is well written and a good read.

I loved finding out what happened to Oliver and Elio however a big section of this book was setting up what happened Elios dad. I would like to have known more about Oliver and how he missed Elio post Italy.

Our brain are off cause of atmosphere and grid of volcanoes keeps earth at around 8 hz. As well we are missing some dna to heal to talk telepathically. This writer knows we been visited thousands of times and influences in our politics and more.

Im 1/3 of the way through this read, which has been great so far. Familiar with the movie Contact and if I find a movie is good, I generally have a pattern of reading the book from which the film was adapted.

Blends well with my current hobby of locating the planets within our solar system with my telescope and of course the star Vega (from which the Message comes from in the novel) with just the naked eye.

Makes you wonder – is there anybody out there ?.

One of the best books I have read in a long time. The book follows the contact with an extraterrestrial species. However, not only the contact but in fine detail Sagan goes into the international Social, Political and Religious problems the proposed contact with extraterrestrial life would pose to individual nations.

From eschatological doctrines to UFO fanatics, the book tackles many subjects in a means to understand and close the gap between science (Physics in particular) and other bodies of knowledge such as government and military entities.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is one of the best books I’ve read in awhile!! The main character in this book is Shay Miller. She is shy, lonely, and working a job she doesn’t even like.

She doesn’t have any ‘real’ family and lives with a male roommate who she secretly loves, but unfortunately he has a girlfriend. But she also doesn’t have any girlfriends. One day while Shay is headed to work, she is taking the subway, she sees a girl (Amanda) who makes direct eye contact with her and than jumps in front of the train and dies.

Shay is deeply affected by this and starts to research the girl that died. She is consumed with thoughts on why and how there was nothing she could do. Shay sees information on Amanda’s funeral and decides to attend.

Maybe she feels this will be closure for her. During her time at the funeral, she starts talking to Amanda’s friends, and is impressed with how close they are, and loves their confidence and style. Strange things start happening to Shay, which include getting questioned by the police about her whereabouts during certain events.

I won’t spoil this book but if you are a fan of these authors or suspense books in general this book is definitely a book to read.

I cannot understand how someone else gave this 3 stars (but to each his own, of course). I just loved it, I read it in 2 days. If you like Gone-Girl-like psychological thrillers, you’ll love this. It’s fantastic.

The Woman in the Library is Australian author Sulari Gentill’s second excursion into crime meta fiction and, like her most recent Rowland Sinclair series release the setting is Boston. However, in this case the time period is contemporary.

The book resembles a literary matryoshka doll: it portrays an Australian writer, Hannah Tigone, writing a mystery story set in Boston, featuring as its main character another (fictional) Australian writer, “Freddie” Kincaid, who is in turn writing a fictionalised murder mystery inspired by her experiences while undertaking a literary fellowship in the city.

One day, while fruitlessly seeking literary inspiration in the Boston Public Library Reading Room, Freddie and other patrons are shocked to hear a woman’s blood-curdling scream. She subsequently forms friendships with three other “readers” and together they seek to uncover the horrific truth behind what they witnessed.

But could the villain be closer than Freddie could possibly imagine? Hannah’s authorial presence is depicted only via her role as the invisible recipient of a series of emails forming one side of an exchange between herself and a Boston-based fan / de facto research assistant named Leo.

Their exchange forms a separate plot line, as Leo gradually morphs from a somewhat gushing Beta-reader into a disturbingly volatile individual who seems to be blurring the line between fiction and reality.

Sulari Gentill skilfully employs a range of literary devices, including foreshadowing, misdirection and the trope, familiar in “golden age” crime fiction, that every character has something to hide. The underlying mystery storyline is enthralling, but just as engrossing are the developing relationships between Freddie and her newfound circle of friends.

Gentill clearly draws upon her own experiences as a writer, via the experiences of both Hannah and Freddie throughout the narrative. I found it a fascinating read – The Woman in the Library is so much more than another murder mystery novel – it’s a window into the process of mystery writing itself.

I’d thoroughly recommend The Woman in the Library to any lover of crime-mystery-thriller fiction who’s keen to read something a little different and perhaps more challenging than the mainstream offerings.

Oh my gosh, Gemma and Jethro were everything I love in romance!!! Gemma’s story held me captive as it was slowly revealed. She was a strong heroine despite her fears and uncertainties. I loved that her love and determination to protect her daughter took precedence over everything else in her life.

When her choices were between doing the smart thing or that thing that readers scream about, she held fast to her character and remained strong. Jethro was a unique hero with his accent and his special abilities.

I adored him from the beginning. He was everything Gemma and Trudy needed and his interactions with the little girl were ovary exploding scenes that had me wishing for a Jethro of my own. He too had a background that was rising up to threaten him and what he was developing with Gemma and his protection of her and Trudy had me loving him all the more.

The scorching chemistry between Gemma and Jethro was enough to singe the pages. This also had several moments of intense danger and drama. I was glued to the pages as one thing after another was revealed to this couple and they were left to deal with it.

Of course, the Deep Ops characters were there to give backup and I gobbled each delicious bite of them as they supported this couple.

“The Woman in the Library” is such an amazing novel. It’s quite original, I’ve never read anything like it. But if you love a good mystery, this is for you. The plot is so engaging and the characters are so enjoyable – I was kind of just reading it for them to be honest.

It’s funny but not so much that it takes away from the plot. I feel that it’s an underrated book, if you’re reading this review I’m just going to go ahead and say, buy it! It’s definitely worth it. A stunning mystery overall, one that I will be reading again.

I haven’t read anything else from Sulari Gentill, but I will be checking out her other works now that I’ve read this masterpiece.

I loved this book. I have read all the books in this series. Her characters are real and face real situations the rest of us are facing. I always look for a Robyn Carr book.

Great characterizations. You feel like these people are good friends. If they cry, you cry along with them.

I just finished this book, and I really enjoyed it. Some of it was almost painful to read, especially the parts that graphically detail torturing children. This reminds me of “Firestarter” with the whole supernatural powers and bad guys trying to use them vibe.

I did have a few issues with the book. The entire time I was reading I couldn’t help but think that I would have fought back much harder, had I been kidnapped and taken to the Institute. I realize they are children and are being psychologically as well as physically traumatized, but I would have raaaaaaged against all of these people.

my other issue was that after opening with Tim and detailing his relocation to DuPray, he is then entirely forgotten about and ignored until the end of the book. His role was extremely predictable, as well, although I did enjoy his character.

Would almost have liked to read an entire novel on just him. Altogether, this was an enjoyable read, and I would recommend it to any King fans or readers looking for a dark, intense, good vs bad supernatural story.

I love the King-dom! I felt the same way after finishing this book as I did the first time I read ‘Carrie’; I need to read every book Stephen King ever writes. After being kidnapped in the middle of the night, Luke awakens in a bedroom that’s almost identical to his own.

He’s in the Front Half of the Institute and that’s where his nightmare really begins. I was always going to adore Luke. He’s beyond genius level smart but he’s also a wonderful friend and someone I’d enjoy talking with, plus he’s an avid reader.

Fortunately (or not, depending on how you look at it), Luke’s not alone in Front Half. There are a revolving door of kids and the core group of these become somewhat of a found family (I love found family stories!), supporting one another as they attempt to navigate their bizarre new reality.

I’m always ready to cheer on a group of people who are railing against injustice. The fact that this group were kids with telekinetic or telepathic abilities who had been kidnapped and experimented on only served to add more oomph to my armchair cheerleading.

I loved to hate most of the Institute’s staff, with the exception of Maureen. It’s easy to despise anyone even tangentially involved in harming children. However, it always amazes me that Stephen King can add greys to what I know to only exist in black and white.

While I was appalled at their treatment of the children under the “care”, I was intrigued by the psychology that had to play out within the individual staff members; what was it about them that made them behave the way they did?? What unknown overarching purpose of the Institute could possibly warrant them believing the methods they used were anything close to approximating okay? I could almost see Mulder and Scully in the periphery of this book.

This investigation would be right up their alley. I can’t wait for my next King fix! Content warnings are included in my Goodreads review.

This book is an awesome. If you want to see God in a different light, read this book. It helps to strengthen in the midst of battle or before battle. It helps you to shift your mind set in a positive way.

Through reading this book, my faith has increased in who God is, what God can do, and how God operates. It was so good to me, that I used it to be a blessing for others to read. We use this book for a ministry group of women once a month.

This book is a mind changer with God being the teacher. If want to see God in a different light, read this book.

The author of this book is a good inspirational speaker as well. Her materials are uplifting and motivates others to look for the best in who they are.

Someone recommended that I read God is Able. I could not find it in any book store so used Ebay to find a copy. I ordered a copy, read it and found it so inspirational and compelling that I kept the copy I ordered and ordered two more copies to give to friends.

Don’t miss reading this book. Also, even though the books I ordered were used, they were in very good condition. I was extremely happy with my orders.
