This is the worthy successor to Watchers that we have all been wanting for YEARS. Beats out 99. 9% of the competition and becomes a tribute to Dean Koontz’ spirit and soul. The book was in perfect condition and reached me very quickly, locked down at home as I am.

With the libraries closed, I made a special trip to loan it to a dear friend who also loves his work and can’t afford it yet. We obeyed all the rules and now she too has a comfort book for awhile.

Great book!! Koontz does himself proud. I loved it and immediately as I finished, I ran it over to a friend to read it. But, I always love it when he puts a great dog in the mix. So, it is somewhat like Watchers, but even better.

And, to top it off, a really warm and fuzzy ending. LOVE IT.

I usually like Dean Koontz books but this particular book had way too much going on. He seemed to be writing three books at once and the character banter was so fake. I give good authors credit for being above average observers of human nature and actions.

The actions of Hillary were the opposite of what any rational human being would have done. He tried to make her reactions to an attacker a learned response to a violent past but he focused more on Franks past before he killed him off.

I felt like I was reading multiple books at the same time and I truly didn’t care what happened to any of the characters. Not my favorite Dean Koontz work.

Dean K is always a good read, I love his suspense and the depth he gives his characters, this particular book seemed close to reality as specially considering world events. I’m Keeping it on my shelf so I can re read it in a few years time.

Another wonderful and enjoyable read by Dean Koontz!! There is nothing about this book that I don’t like. As with all of his other books I have read, this book is absolutly wonderful. It grabs your attention right from the begining.

Koontz is a great story teller. This book is spooky because it is something that could really happen, to any of us. And the way he takes you along with the charactrs, through the good and the bad, makes you feel as though you are actually there.

I bought this book to add to my personal library of Dean Koontz books.

Though what seem to be the main characters are definitely two that you will engage with and feel for, it is the mostly silent hero that you will truly engage with, without using many words you will be able to re-trace and experience his anguish, pain and heartbreak.

Additionally the great twists and unexpected turn of events (that at some points seem just a little too handy) make this book into a real ‘Koontz’ any fan will love.

KUDOS FOR DEAN KOONTZ ESPECIALLY HIS LATER NOVELS.

This book has been a top three of Koontz’s work. It haunted me to re-read it for years. Watchers being number one. However, find it at the library or a used book store or flea market. This book was shipped from Toledo, Ohio west 266 miles to Glendale, Illinois before it’s trek east to New Jersey, where it sat for 5 days, in Pennsylvania only 77 miles away from my location.

totally unacceptable shipping process. But the book and story had me wanting to throw the book through a window, while another part wouldn’t let me put it down. A must read!!.

If I could, out of a scale of 1-5 I would give this book a solid 10. It is one of the greatest books I have ever read in fiction. Love, loss, tragedy, humor, suspense, drama, action and a dash of sci-fi are all combined in this book.

That combined with the expertise story-telling abilities of Koontz delivers a book that cuts right to the quick of life, asks some of the hard questions, and delivers a hard punch (both in the good and the bad) on each and every page.

Excellent character structure and development left me hanging on each word even more than the plot, which is a rare thing anymore.

The paperback was practicaly perfect. A page turner I couldn’t put it down.

I have read it in one weekend! It is a good suspense novel about a person that sees ghosts. This book has everything the lover of suspense novels needs: a mystery, growing tension with every page turned and a twist at the end.

Between S King and D Koontz I would always chose D Koontz: simply because he uses better language. So for me his novels are more enjoyable.

Synopsis: Odd Thomas has a way with the dead. They never talk to him, but they do try to communicate. Short-order cook is his day job. Other times he is trying to do right by the dead souls who come to him.

Sometimes they seek justice. Sometimes they want to help prevent a disaster. When a mysterious man comes to town, Odd finds a pack of hyena-like shades following him. Further investigation shows the man has an interest in mass killings.

There is also an ominous date added to the mix, leaving Odd 24 hours before evil strikes. With Stormy Llewellyn, his beloved, the ghost of Elvis, and a host of other friends, Odd must stand between evil and his home of Pico Mundo.

Review: Odd Thomas is set in a desert community of Pico Mundo and centers on a psychic named Odd Thomas. When a large man enters the Pico Mundo Grill where Odd works, Odd immediately notices shadow creatures around him: harbingers of a looming cataclysm.

The story is told in the first person. The elements of the story should make it interesting. However, the first person nature of the story causes Mr. Koontz to delve into long expositions. These are explanations the reader will likely find confusing.

The result is a book that is hard to follow.

First published back in 2004, Volume One of the Odd Thomas series has deservedly earned the title of Supernatural Classic. Describing the book’s plot to a friend who is not overly familiar with either Dean Koontz or the horror genre, she quickly surmised the book to be a mystery.

And it is, sort of. But not really. It all boils down to the fact that Odd Thomas can see dead people. But as Mr Koontz says, “. he [Odd] actually DOES something about it. “. It is a good thing, therefore, as an incredibly bold (or is that naive?) twenty one year old, that he has strong connections with the town Sheriff.

And that in the context of this story, his girlfriend – Stormy Lleweyn – is the niece of the village Catholic Priest. As i approach the halfway mark, I am yet to meet the entire cast of characters, but those that have been introduced to the reader are full of depth, humour, intelligence and to summarise, are all beautifully and immaculately presented.

My favourite is the amateur mystery novelist Ozzie, who is so overweight that the term “obese” does not even fit his literary persona. But what an amazingly intellectual mind he has! And with such friendship and plutonic love he holds for Odd, he is almost like the Father Odd never knew.

There is a plethora of supporting characters, too, which are a joy to meet, but I won’t ruin the surprise for any of those that have not completed this supernatural fantasy by mentioning them gere. But brace yourself.

*grins* And speaking of the bad guys – which I wasn’t – but I am now – they too are as delightful and fun to read about as they were for Mr Koontz to write about. The main antagonist for Odd is a “gentleman” called the Fungus Man – who not only turns out to be a devoted follower of some of the most evil men in history but also possesses the rare (and unwanted) talent of attracting sentient voids of the universe (aka “bodachs”) just about anywhere he goes.

And of course the Fungus Man has an almost supernatural ability to “be” just about anywhere he “needs” to be virtually at will. For readers who are interested, there are a couple of phrases inserted into the body of the book that could almost be described as Mr Koontz being autobiographical.

For example, taken from location 1504 of the kindle version: “Ozzie’s success doesn’t in the least surprise me. He likes people and he listens to them, and that love of humanity shines out of his pages.

” The quintessential Koontzanism? I think so. So what is the book really about? Is it a standalone novel? Or merely the prologue to arguably the first and greatest supernatural fantasy series of all time? Well in my opinion, it is both.

Clearly the Fungus Man must be stopped. He is bad. Odd Thomas (and his small army of friends) represent the forces of good in the tiny town of Pico Mundo and they will (of course) do their darnedest to protect its integrity.

So our role as readers, of course, is to sit on the sidelines, cheer on the good guys, and hope for the outcome we all want. Because if Mr Odd fails to overcome the invading evil and achieve his destiny, how on earth is Mr Koontz going to write eight more fantastic books to read? I hereby award this book a very solid four stars, despite its status as the opening stanza to a legendary series.

I cant wait to see how this story finishes, and of course i can’t wait to get my bands on the rest of the books and start devouring them like a vampire devouring virginal blood. But just don’t let Odd Thomas see me! BFN Greggorio!.

This is the 3rd in the series and it’s pretty good. The 4th book is due out in the Oct-Nov time frame. It is about Victor Helios (aka Frankenstein), but an evil version, who simply wants to end life on Earth.

His oldest creation, Deucalion, still lives and feels his mission in life in to stop Helios. I did not feel it was as good as the first 2 books but still enjoyable. It will be very interesting to see where Dean take the 4th book.

In my mind, Koontz is simply the best supernatural fiction writer out there.

walmart or the postal service really dropped the ball on this on. my book was supposed to arrive the next to last weekend in july but didn’t show up until the first of august. it was mis-shipped or something and ended up going out west before coming to me in Tennessee.

while it was not needed exactly on that date, it still arrived more than a week after the expected delivery date. i also didn’t understand why i could get all of the rest of the books on free site to store delivery and this one had to be shipped to my house.

that is all on that. as for the book, this series is one of the best i have ever read. i love them and would recommend them to anyone who enjoys a good suspense read. they are fast reads, i finished each book in about a day.

just a note, i do work full-time so its not like i sit at home all day and read. they are very interesting and you really can’t go wrong with these books.

This was a fantastic book as is expected of every Dean Koontz book and a great way to end this trilogy. I did thoroughly enjoy this book though I was slightly dismayed at how the book ended. But such twists should be expected in and novel by Dean Koontz.

This is the 3rd book I have read from Dean Koontz involving Golden Retrievers. I have loved everyone. Be ready with tissues when you read this book and to get crazy mad with some of the characters. you get so involved with this story.

Did not want it to end!.

I’ve been reading Dean Koontz since I was 12, I’m now 24. Anytime a new one comes out I grab it up and plow through it. This book is utter garbage. Let me sum up the book and save you the time of reading this pile: – 2 couples – one is crazy ina n evil way, the other is crazy is a simply stupid “let me slowly divulge my past to shed light on why i’m such a spastic person” thing.

Nothing but confessions that are supposed to have huge emotional weight to the characters to add depth. The characters have about as much substance as a piece of toilet paper at BEST. – Long story short it’s all about how great golden retrievers are, thats it.

He could have saved time by selling a pamphlet about why he thinks we should all own a shiny yellow dog. Gag me with a chew toy. A squeaky one. – The book goes first person for a retarded girl. First person for a retarded girl, a full one third of the book is wasted on this.

– The ending is like the end of a child’s animated movie. The retarded girl and the “good” couple all fly away on the dog – seriously this goes down. I was a Koontz fan until i read this one. I doubt i’ll ever pick up another one of his novels.

This book should be avoided at all costs especially if you like Koontz classics like Mr. Murder, Servants of Twilight, and the like. And for god’s sake do not get the audio book – narrator does an amazingly annoying job while in first person for the retarded girl.

I really do hate to say this about Koontz, but he’s fallen off in a serious fashion and is using his personal love of golden retrievers as a basis for new material and that simply does not fly. unless you’re a golden retriever then you can be tardo airways evidently.

I’d have had a better time reading the back of a cereal box to my cat. It’s a cynical view but the book is just that bad. It really does sound like a sales pitch to adopt a golden retriever, name it nikki, and read bad fiction for the rest of your days.

Another very enjoyable read by Dean Koontz. Keeps you guessing till the very end. You find pieces of the characters past as it goes along till the end when it all comes together and explains how their vry different pasts make upmthe people they are now.

As with most Dean Koontz novels it eventually comes down to good vs evil. His love for the golden retriever breed is obvious. One special dog has a shocking revelation at the end. I haven’t yet read a Dean Koontz book I didnt want to end and this is no exception.

I can always count on Dean Koontz for a good read. This book has all the typical features: spunky good guys, amusingly crazy villains, some quantum physics, and a dog.

Another must read by Dean Koontz. Fantasy becomes reality in his latest book, “Elsewhere.” Love it!

Couldn’t give 5 stars because I have loved many books by Dean Koontz and this one is simply not one of his best. He didn’t build the suspense as good as he usually does.

I enjoy reading Dean Koontz I have a few of his books. That are all excellent written to read.

As a fan of Koontz’s work and of the classic Frankenstein tale I don’t know why it took me so long to get around to this. I believed this would be a rewrite of the original but it is much better than that.

It is a sequel to the tale rather than the book, this give Koontz more scope for his own story that weaves perfectly into Shelley’s imagination without being tied to details, i. e. inferring that Shelley wrote the book based on a story she had heard which turned out to be true.

This book introduces us to the monster and the man two hundred years after the original storm and the reversal of their roles, this will not disappoint and leaves you hungry for more.

Dean Koontz is a extremely good writer you just have to be able to follow along with the many points of view he has in his books. But his book Prodigal Son is his first book in the Frankenstein series and it is amazing how he took the original Mary Shelly Frankenstein and made it just add on in a present day events.

He didn’t recreate Frankenstein like most people do but extends the story that left you still wondering what exactly happened that last day and where Victor’s creation went. The points of views given in this book are Victor, Victor’s first creation, a few of Victor’s newer creation, a detective and the detectives disabled brother.

Even though it has many points of view it is very easy to follow and makes you not want to put the book down even more.

Im a big Koontz fan and I have read most of his novels. Wasn’t a fan of this reimagining. Just felt very derivative and stale. Watchers is my favorite Koontz novel and this doesnt stack up at all.

Congratulations to Dean Koontz on another sci-fi mystery. This novel ended in a totally unexpected direction than the beginning of the story. Here we find Neil and Molly Sloan two good people caught up in a world full of wickedness.

Molly and Sloan begin to experience and see changes happening in their house and in their area. Later, they find out that the entire world was experiencing the same events. The world was experiencing a sudden rainfall, climate change, ghosts appearing, flooding in all areas of the world, people dying and aliens walking the earth.

Like everyone in the world, Neil and Molly were afraid of the things that they were seeing. Neil and Molly left their house and began their journey to safety. As they were going through their journey, they realized what their true mission was.

This book was a very good read!.

The Taking centers around Molly and Neil Sloan who live in an idyllic mountain community in California. One night Molly awakens to a downpour of silvery rain. The rain doesn’t stop however and both Molly and Neil realize that something is “wrong”.

As they watch the news they learn that extreme weather conditions are taking place all over the world. As their small town is cut off from the outside world they learn that something is hunting humans, something indescribable.

Soon the town must band together to stay alive as more and more residents disappear. Molly and Neil must find a way to stay alive amid the chaos and death while still struggling to understand what is happening.

The Taking is an excellent book and a quick read. The atmosphere Koontz creates is inescapable and pulls you in from the first page and doesn’t release you until the last one. In classic Koontz style he reveals small pieces of the puzzle and allows you to come up with your own conclusions as the story unfolds.

The main characters, Molly and Neil Sloan, have all of our hopes, dreams, and fears which come out as they struggle to survive in the most difficult of circumstances. While The Taking shares some elements of Stephen’s King’s short story “The Mist” and H.

G. Well’s novel “War of the Worlds”, the book is absolutely unique and ranks in as one of Koontz’s best. This book has everything and is a must for all Koontz fans. The story moves quickly, is action packed, and incredibly suspenseful.

Its also a great read for any Sci Fi fan, especially anyone who enjoys a great alien invasion story.

Another hit by Dean Koontz! Compelling read that entices the reader to not put down this novel until finished. Would definitely recommend this book to my friends.

Life expectancy is a great book to read. The story’s protagonist in the story, Jimmy doesn’t have it easy because starting on his twentieth year alive the first of five horrible days start to begin. The plot in this story is great because it always keeps you guessing on what’s going to happen next.

The characters in the story are in my opinion the greatest thing this book has. I really like the relationship between the protagonists and the antagonists. It’s unique and it’s something I have not anywhere else.

There is humor, a bit of romance, and whole lot of death in this book. If you like any of these things then I recommend you read this when you get the opportunity.

I love to read anything by Dean Koontz, so I immediately jumped at the chance to buy a book of his that I had not read. Dean Koontz is known for his books on human existence; love, hope and good against evil.

This one is somewhat different from his others in that you know something bad is going to happen to the main character, Jimmy Tock, on 5 named days in his future. His grandfather made these predictions on his deathbed and as the novel progress you see that the predictions are coming true.

There are several unexpected twists throughout the plot. It is both suspenseful and funny. I haven’t read a book by Dean Koontz that I did not like.

This is one of my favorite Dean Koontz books. It is also my sisters favorite book. I collect signed Deanh Koontz books, and had duplicates of this one. I had given one of them to my sister as a gift.

When I noticed this one listed and was up for bidding I was fortunate enough to have won it at a very reasonable price. It arrived in outstanding condition, the Autograph is authentic, and the book is in the best shape I could have ever hoped for.

It’s in the same condition as when it was first purchased-OUTSTANDING ! The story in this book is heartwarming, as are most of Mr. Koontz’s books. It deals with good and evil, love and dedication to what is good and right.

Two of the main charactors in this book are a husband and wife detective team, Bobby and Julie Dakota. Julie has a brother named Thomas who has Down’s-syndrome. An amazing and touching aspect of this book is when Mr.

Koontz writes from Thomas’ outlook or point of view, it is written in a Down’s-syndrome persons perspective. Mr Koontz has the uncanny ability to actually bring the reader into the story and feel at one with the charactors, which in this case is also teaching the reader a little about understanding the mind-works of Down’s-syndrome.

A great read, as I have read it twice so far and expect to read it many more times over the years. A Highly Recommended Read.

The story is very good. Koontz’s older books are by far better than what he does today. However, this particular book was NOT signed and was only a book club edition. No good. The STORY is great though.

Best Koontz book ever, bought it to read for the second time (I first read it it in 1999) and was not disappointed.

As usual, Dean Koontz delivers a wonderful read with Breathless. Although I was a little disappointed by its brevity, the story line itself was pure Koontz. Touching, humorous, thought provoking and a little out there, but nonetheless possible! His in-depth characters, both heroes and villains, are engaging and believable in all his stories and Breathless is no exception.

If you are a diehard fan, as am I, you will enjoy reading this engaging book as much as all his others. I do wish he had added a little more drama and length to Breathless as he did with my all-time favorite, Watchers.

There were so many possibilities to delve further but, then again, he does want to leave you asking for more! As always, I am looking forward to reading more of his tales in future.

It may not be fair as I am a big Dean Koonz fan. If you are willing to let your thoughts wander to worlds that are not imaginable to the everyday mind. Breathless gives you a time and place where the world could change forever.

Its a good read and I recommend for anyone who enjoys strange without gore.

Recvd this on first day of predicted 3-day time slot (11/30) & started reading the next day. It’s now 3 days later & I’m halfway through. I’m SO GLAD tomorrow’s the weekend ’cause I hate to put it down! Multiple characters with (so far) only two that know each other.

I’m guessing they all come together soon as in one of his earlier books (Strangers?) about the moon & a diner out west. I highly reccomend this book & LOVED being able to pre-order and get it delivered to my door (no shipping charge).

Another great Koontz book, it has a ton of action, heart, funny dialogue and inner thoughts, also a really dark villain :0 recommended! 🙂

I struggled through the first 50 pages hoping it would pick up speed. Then one of the chapters began something to the effect of “The devil was sitting in the corner in all his majesty” and I tossed the book in the nearest trash can on the subway platform.

Since I belive the devil is not interested in “majesty” but only chaos and misery, this book wasn’t worth pursuing.

So far I have never been disappointed in a book by Dean Koontz and this was no exception. I enjoyed it very much.

I am a huge Dean Koontz fan and have read almost all of his books. This book was, as the heading says, “typical Dean Koontz”. The story was good, fast paced and kept my interest, although at times somewhat predictable.

Having said that, I think Koontz is losing his edge. The story just didn’t “grab” me the way some of his other books have. And to tell the truth, I never really connected with any of the characters. In my opinion, “Watchers” is still his best book EVER, although that may be just my opinion.

The story revolves around an author and his family (including a quirky dog named Lassie) who are (relentlessly) pursued by a mysterious book critic to the point that they must abandon their home and go on the run.

Wherever they go, somehow he finds them. Without giving too much away, they come to realize that the situation is much bigger than just one crazy critic, but rather a faction of purists intent on preserving all the classical art forms by eliminating modern day artists and writers who do not conform to their standards.

The ending was a surprise, and somewhat of a stretch even for Koontz, but all in all an enjoyable read. Koontz fans will eat it up!.

I bought this book with somewhat low expectations of it. Koontz is one of my all time favorite authors, but some of his latest works have been a bit lacking, compared to some of his other titles. I was pleasantly surprised, however, by the characters and story line of the book.

Koontz as always, weaves his amazing humor throughout, even in the midst of bleakness, and always searches for hope. Cubby is an amazingly funny hero!.

Again, Dean Koontz has made another amazing book. I’ve yet to read one that I wasn’t impressed with. I’m not quite finished with it yet, but I can’t wait to see how it turns out! He is always keeping you on your toes, and his descriptive writing makes you feel like you’re right along with all the characters! Definately recommend this book!.

The front and back covers were in decent condition, but the pages were pretty faded orange. The story was interesting, but Dean Koontz often rambles on with too much useless descriptions and thoughts.

Another taste of excellence by Dean Koontz. Even though it’s a thick book, it was engaging enough to read quickly. It’s a story of a child who has been the main subject in an experiment that done in secret due to the simple fact that it is worse than any prison’s torturous treatment.

It’s not possible that it would be able to pass any standards of testing, so has been done in complete secrecy for years of the girl’s life. See the monster they have turned her into strike back at her keepers.

I loved this book. I have read many of Dean Koonz’s Books and this has to be one of the best. The story line grabs you from the very beginning and keeps you guessing. till the very end. !!! He has a great imagination.

Once you start on this book, you won’t want to put it down. I recommend this to anyone who loves a good thriller !!.

One of my few indulgences is reading horror novels, and this one, by Koontz kept me very interested throughout. Koontz is not new to me as I have read a few of his books, but “Midnight” is the best so far for me.

Koontz blends relationships into his stories unlike any other horror writer I have read, and keeps the science facts believable which is hard to do. if you enjoy horror try a few of his books. I just bought a few more!.

The book is fairly old and I was not discouraged by the slightly yellowing pages. I was impressed in the good condition of the cover and there was no sign of foxing of the pages.

I really loved the first two books about Moonlight Bay, with Chris Snow and his friends. This is the 3rd and final installation. I was disappointed that Chris wasn’t even mentioned, let alone involved with the final disposition of the bad guys.

The new hero was interesting, but the ” I have to know what happens next” wasn’t there and the humor was missing as well. I found the unabridged version a bit long, with unnecessary detail in descriptions, etc, that weren’t really necessary to the story.

I would buy it again, but would get the abridged version instead.

My wife & I love to read! I noticed that more & more that she wasn’t enjoying it as much. After using my deductive skills, I found out why, she was having a hard time making out the small print. She was only reading a few pages at a time & it was frustrating her.

I dug through he “to read” list & ended up with Forever Odd being her next. I found a large print here on Ebay & now she is back at it. The book itself is an excellent read in a gripping series from Koontz.

So if its not on your list, rewrite yours & add the whole series!.

First of all, don’t read this book unless you have already read Odd Thomas as it contains spoilers for the first book. Just as we don’t read the last page first and first page last, or anywhere in between, we also should read books in order for the sake of the story 🙂 Forever Odd is a good book.

With his usual artful style, Koontz flips your emotions as if on a remote control. You feel the fear of the situation, the tension, the thrill, and then flip right back into laughter. and awe. Koontz can tug at your heart strings, but leave you with enough humor that you aren’t completely devestated and can smile in spite of it all.

Odd Thomas is a special character. He is one we should all strive to emulate. Compassionate, intelligent, humble, yet confident. And he is surrounded by special people, although they play far less of a role in this book than the previous book.

Not as good as the first, but a close second. Well worth the read and the space on your bookshelf.

Whether you like Koontz or Not you WILL LOVE Odd Thomas Odd Thomas is one of the most likeable characters I have ever come across. As you get further into the novel you will start to really identify with Mr.

Thomas. Forever Odd is just as good, if not better than the original novel in this series (Odd Thomas, Dean Koontz). Odd has grown up a bit, and this novel is a little more graphic than the original, but Forever Odd, like Odd Thomas, is impossible to put down.

Borrow or Buy?: BUY, BUY, BUY!!! If you haven’t read Odd Thomas yet, DO NOT buy this book. Well. buy it, but don’t read it. Make sure to read Odd Thomas first. Both books are worth buying and get my 100% stamp of aproval.
