20 Best Self Leveling Rotary Laser (2023 Updated)

I purchased this to level theatrical truss and decks. I will say that it’s easy to use, very intuitive and so far seems robust. One thing I will say is that I asked if this red laser would be effective for use outside without the receiver at short distances (30′-50′).

Another words could I just spin it up and look for the line and negate the need for the receiver. I was told it would be possible, short answer is forget about it. You need the receiver, my guess is that a green laser may work, but il’ll never know at this point.

Other than that, as long as it keeps working, I’ll be happy!.

I have used this product in the past but recently changed jobs. My new employer did not have a laser leveler and did not want to buy one due to its cost. This had made my job leveling deck railing on mobile systems so much easier and quicker in the past that I decided to but my own leveler.

Although this laser costs a lot up front, the savings realized by using less labor hours and in having much fewer mistakes makes it well worth the money. I will never go back to measuring and leveling railing it.

Now I am teaching my crew how to use it. They are amazed at how much easier it makes their job.

When I order the laser I entered the promo code Free tripod. When the laser came there was no tripod Or grade rode. I call their customer and asked if they could overnight the tripod and grade rode in which I was willing to pay for.

The next day I got nothing. I call back and spoke to them again and they now where going to overnight them for free (great) next day I get the grade rode and there was no tripod. Now I have to go buy a tripod 79$ so I can start my project.

After cooling down I call again a day later and take to them again and she says we just sent it out. So after 3 phone calls I have everything I need + an extra tripod that cost me a extra 79 $.

Only used this for concrete form leveling so far, it works great for that purpose. Fast setup, fast mark-finding. The DeWalt tripod sold separately at Home Despot is a piece of junk; i am returning it.

Had to make an adapter by tapping a 5/8″-11 bolt with a 1/4″-20 thread; The adaptor works fine but the tripod is so rickety the level goes intermittent sitting on it, and the leg clamps slip and cannot hold the level up.

I am using an optical transit tripod with the right thread and very solid and easily adjusted.

This rotary laser level Is simple to setup and super easy to use. Within an hour of it arriving we had our concrete forms set for our building project and had figured out how much fill we needed for the grade on the next building.

I purchased this attic ladder for access to my garage attic space (30″x30″opening). I looked online and there weren’t many options available, aside from opening the size of the existing crawl space and reframing it.

So, I went with this. They engineered this to handle small openings, for various heights, and it does do that. It is not designed for high volume use. So, if you plan on accessing your attic a lot, I would look for something sturdier.

I rated it a 4 because the instructions were not always clear, and when I first went to open the ladder, one section would not slide open. The plastic end caps had been installed incorrectly at the factory (left cap, and right cap were both in the wrong ends).

Really appreciate this ladder’s compact engineering design – I had to modify the installation slightly to accommodate perpendicular rafters and the instructions helped tremendously in giving me the flexibility to install.

Happily surprised by the this little laser level. Quick set up and is very easy to operate. The green laser is very bright. I use it for general construction and around the farm for concrete slabs, setting up sheds and framing.

Great little laser for the price and very accurate. I would highly recommend it.

Very easy to use and set up for single or dual grades. The only down side is the receiver that comes with it does not have the digital read out for easy use. We use a receiver from a different laser that has the decimal display.

Great product. Once you have one your done. It’s a must have and the best value for the quality and warranty. Just get I and be done.

I looked at several lasers before buying this one and found several features that stood out to me. 1. Completely enclosed rotary head. This is not always the case on ones I’ve used and looked at before buying.

Not having it enclosed leaves me wonder about the accuracy of the unit. How many times was it bumped into etc. etc. 2. Comes with a very nice protective case, not just some bag to drag around with you.

3. Sturdy tripod! Not some light duty one that wobbles after you set it up. 4. Receiver has nice display and readout of current elevation differential. The only thing is that it does not come with a remote to do grading at a slope.

I had to buy that separate and it’s not the cheapest thing in the world but well worth it if you are working by yourself. There is no display on the unit but from what I’ve found you will have to spend quite a bit more to get that feature and this is a very nice unit for the money.

I bought this kit last year and have used it indoor and outdoor. Nice laser for the money. rotary head is enclosed in glass so it’s protected, not exposed like other brands. This one does do grading but you will need to purchase a remote.

Again, nice for the money, no display to see % of grade but you can do a few manual measurements to compensate for that. The receiver is easy to read and you can adjust the tone level and sensitivity.

I work with this product every day and i personally would recommend this to anybody that wants accurate leveling results

This is a very easy laser to see and use. Turns on quickly and has many great features. Only bad thing is it doesn’t come with a outside detector. Still a great product.

I am overjoyed at how great a laser the Cross Line Laser is. The laser sends a bright green laser horizontally, vertically of in both directions at once by pressing one or both of the two pressure switches.

The device comes in a well designed heavy duty plastic carrying case to hold the laser device, three AAA batteries, and an extra bracket. I really liked that there are slots specially dedicated for the batteries, which keep them separated and fresh in between jobs.

The cross line laser is solidly built and can withstand drops of 3. 2 feet (1 meter), and with its rugged carrying case the tool is ready for rough and tumble travel and construction sites. The laser is powerful and is highly visible in dark and bright settings due to its bright green color.

It has a good range that can be extended to 165 feet (50 meters) with an optional detector. Leveling is accurate to within 1/8 inch at 30 feet, which is more than adequate for most projects. The laser unit has several options for mounting.

It has a 180 degree swivel bracket that can be mounted on a nail, set on a horizontal surface, attached to a metal surface by strong magnets in its bracket, or screwed onto a tripod by a 1/4 inch thread in its base.

An extra bracket designed for placement on drop ceiling frames is an added bonus. The laser’s auto self leveling allows for placement on uneven surfaces; up to a 4 inch tilt. Right out of the box the laser is easy to use.

This is a great device that does its job perfectly. The beam is clear and strong, and the self leveling aspect is great. I used this to create a level line on the wall to help me hang some pictures and it worked brilliantly.

Especially as my house doesn’t have a single level floor or ceiling! Gone are the days of measuring from the floor up or the ceiling down only to find that I’ve drawn a zigzag on the wall. I used the wall mount which worked great, with a nice strong magnet to attach the unit.

I haven had need to use the non self-leveling element of the device, but it seems like it would work fine. I don’t use the batteries that come bundled with devices so can’t speak to their quality. But the ones I put into the device are still working 3 days later so it seems all right on battery life so far.

All in all, I can’t find any faults, 5 stars.

Ordered this level special delivery cause I needed it to replace my older cheaper level that would not turn on. Opened the box and found the batteries already installed, set it flat on the kitchen counter and it would not turn on.

Installed new batteries, same thing. The vert level light would flash when in horizontal position and light when level was in vertical position. Other than that, no lights or actions. Looked at the manufactures tag and the date of manufacture was 12/2015.

And yes I turned the pendulum switch on.

We use this level to mark stakes for reference in concrete planning, and foundation fill grades. It can also help when a ( plumb bob ) is needed, Perhaps for layout of lights on ceilings. Another use is during installation of doors and windows in a room allowing them all to be same height.

This model has a transport lock to protect the self leveling pendulum mechanism.

Every time I walk close to the unit, it senses vibrations in the floor and stops to re-calibrate. This contributes to the accuracy however, I think its too sensitive. Also the laser is not very bright.

Even in indoor use, if the room has big windows allowing a lot of natural light, the light is very dim when the unit is on full rotation. To increase the brightness of the laser I have to put it on “sweep mode” which means that the unit sweeps back and forth in approx.

1/8th circle. not make making full rotation. Since the batteries are not having to propel full rotation, there is more power available for the laser. This design is terrible because if you have to work all the way around the perimeter of the room, you have to keep advancing the laser position, which means that you have to hold down the button on the remote.

sometimes the laser doesn’t advance at all, or if it does, it goes right back to the previous position or it just shuts off altogether. REALLY Frustrating!!!!!!!!!!! Bad circuitry design.

In the past, I’ve owned a hilti self leveling rotary laser (very expensive) and as far as I can tell, this Bosch is of the same quality and design. I couldn’t be happier!!!!!!

Control took 5 minutes to understand. Not bad. Self leveling, Rotating LASER with better than expected brightness. And a good value compared to what is out there on the market now. very satisfied.

Topcon is s great product, durable and economical. Scored at Tiger Supply with a great price and awesomely fast shipping. A+ Tiger recommended. Will definitely do business again.

Best investment Ive ever made I build post frame buildings now I can mark the grade by myself I wish I would have bought it years ago thanks for such an excellent product

I bought the laser level a few years ago and have used it on many jobs. As a contractor I would highly recommend this particular model for indoor use only and not in brightly lit rooms. With that being said I still like and use this laser level in certain applications like installing drop ceilings.

If you want to use it outside you will be sorely disappointed. It is not rated for outdoor use and Bosch makes no claims that it can be used outside. You will not see the red laser line in the bright sunlight or even in a brightly lit room for that matter.

This is why they sell green laser beam units. Even the green laser level cannot be seen outside unless its really cloudy with absolutely no sunlight. I know, I just purchased a Bosch green laser unit and tried to use it outside.

The green laser is much better in a brightly lit room than the red laser For outside use what you need is a rotating laser with a receiver.

I have been rebuilding a laundry/bathroom built in the 60’s. I used plumb bobs and levels in the first phase and although excellent methods, very time consuming. I have a couple of small lasers that help with level relying on a bubble level and only one line that are helpful too.

I was nearing the last phase of building the shower and using the Kerdi-Board which has grid lines. This Bosch made lining up the sheets quick and easy with the self leveling feature and both vertical and horizontal lines.

When actually installing the tile the vertical and horizontal also helped make sure that the courses were staying true. All the refurb CPO tools have been excellent values.

I’ve purchased this model as well as a cheaper $85 dollar version previously. You WILL get what you pay for. I think I’d like to start off by saying that most of the less flattering reviews come from contractors who, on a beer budget, wanted themselves the champagne of lasers.

one that would work well in strong sunlight. This is NOT an outdoor tool. I would rate it as being one of the best pro-sumer models, with an accurate and very even line going around the room. It’s also 2X stronger than the beam from the cheapo 80+ dollar versions.

It’s built well and comes with a nice case and accessories. Want an outdoor product? Pony up the extra cash — wether you’re buying a Bosch or a DeWalt. It’s that simple. My only beef with the product is the ON slider.

I feel it’s backwards. I have to pull it towards me to turn on.

The green lines are bright enough for indoors for most normal distances. You can definitely see them trail out. When on the ground, it doesn’t shine the vertical line above the device, so take that into account as you have to back it up further maybe.

My biggest gripe is that it’s always a cross-hair shape. You can’t toggle vertical or horizontal on/off. But worse, you can’t slide them up/down or left/right relative to each other either. This means you have to be able to line this up directly perpendicular to your point and also be able to raise/lower the entire device to the height you want the horizontal line to be! That’s pretty lame.

Since it’s self leveling, tilting it forward/back to try and move the horizontal line will just cause it to show in the same height as the unit (obvious, but annoying at the same time). Overall, it’s a good tool to have and helps lining up photos to hang or speakers to put in the ceiling or whatever.

And if you can get it cheap, it’s well worth having the tool at your disposal for the rare times you need it. If you have more serious use cases, then might be worth looking at better models with more features.

A very simple device, no bells or whistles – does the job. It’s a time saver compared with the hassle of dealing with normal levels. I’ve had it for only a couple of weeks so I can’t comment on longevity: wear-and-tear, long-term accuracy, how it takes the abuses that any tool is subject to.

Right now I’m happy to have it. The beam has some thickness to it – that’s the nature of the beast – but it’s easy to deal with. I got it to get a precise height measurement for the height of a stairway I’m about to start building, a difficult measurement to get with a regular level when the stair’s first step is located a fair distance from its last, especially when you know that both floors are out of level.

With the laser I could get the measurement in a short minute or two. I awarded 3 stars only because the forth star signifies that the product is “better than expected”; it is exactly what I expected.

In comparison the the red-laser levels I have owned in the past, this is by far the best one, especially at the price point! the green is extremely visible indoors (truly up to 40 ft) and makes quick work of lining up tiles, anchors, etc.

DO NOT BUY this level if you are planning to use it outdoors as it is not designed for this; the light is not bright enough. The auto self-levelling is a great feature and the pendulum lock can save your level if it were to every fall.

Uses cheap batteries that are not like any found in stores in the USA. I was never able to use this as the batteries came with defect and would not charge or work. The battery shows in the level as not charged.

I put it in the Charger and it shows with a red light or not charged. It stays there for a long time and never charges only gets hot. After 24 hrs no change. I recommend you get one that uses batteries available in the US.

Excellent bang for the buck. It is enough precise for my needs. The beams are a bit weak and might have been better calibrated but, at its price, it’s worth. One of the best parts is that it doesn’t have a built in battery, I hate built in batteries.

It works with 2×18650, which give it enough juice to use it almost all day long. All in all a smart investment. Not long ago I bought another one, more expensive, looked good, but I had to throw it to the garbage can because of its under quality.

It works great. It’s my new favorite tool. The only thing wrong with it is the rubber push in cap for the charge port doesn’t stay in. Not a big deal. Everything works good.

I bought this level three months ago. For the record I love Dewalt, always have. However, lately I am starting to grow very concerned over the quality and durability. Three months ago I finally decided to pull the trigger on a new tool, a Dewalt 3 Beam Laser Level.

After Researching and budget considerations I spent a little more than I wanted to purchased a DEWALT DW089K Self Leveling 3 Beam Line Laser. I have attempted to use this item a few times with little to no success.

The first few times I tried using the laser, the lines were very faint, the laser barely noticeable both inside and outside. Each time the line became more and more difficult to see. I changed the batteries thinking they were the problem, nope same thing faint hard to see lines.

Now, the unit has stopped working completely! No lines, no signs of life. To top it off the metal has become corroded and pitted. See attached photo. The unit has been left in its case for protection yet it looks like it has been through war! I am going to attempt the contact the warranty department about this unit to see what they can suggest or do to remedy the situation.

Stay tuned as I will update how it goes. At this time I will not recommend this product, I feel for the amount spent it should run like a top. However if the support is solid I will change my review as I also feel tools can have faults.

Was happy with the laser when it was working. Unfortunately l can’t speak to the longevity of the unit. I used it 5 or 6 times over the past 2 years,. then the unit just stopped working. No drops, misuse etc.

Warranty is only good for 1 year. they say 3 years “limited warranty for manufacturing defects”, but supposedly when the unit just stops working after 5 or 6 uses, it isn’t a manufacturing defect?? Paid close to 400 dollars for this unit.

Really disappointed in dewalt’s quality over the past few years, l have purchased many of their products, but quality seems to be going downhill on some of their priducts.
