20 Best Self Hair Cutting System (2023 Updated)

I have used my first one for over 23 years on myself (exclusively the FlowBee, no other cuts), and multiple other family members as well (some on intermittent basis as available). Has saved a lot in that time, paying for itself many times over! And with good results! My hair is difficult for stylists to cut and get a good look, but with the FlowBee I can get consistent good results, the way I want it, every time.

And right here at home, when ever it is convenient, no appointments or travel time lost. and I don’t have to wear a mask or worry about social distancing to get it done. Without a doubt one of the very best products I have ever bought! When I have the time I will repair the simple wire that finally came loose inside my first one after so many years of regular and heavy use, and fully expect to get much more use out of it yet.

But the day that it did not work, I jumped on the internet immediately to see if they were still available out there. I was very pleased to see they were, and that the design is virtually unchanged over all this time.

So they have not cheapened the product over time, and that is so rare! Using the new one is just like using my original. Very very pleased with this product! Though this one did cost a little more than the first one over23 years ago, I am confident that this second one is going to be well worth it as well.

Overall I am satisfied after 2 haircuts but will have to see how things hold up. The plastic spacers seem to be flimsy and one piece did break from a fall off the counter. Luckily there are good plastic glues available so I was able to repair before second use.

Replacement parts are expensive if they are going to be the same low-grade plastic. For the price I did expect higher quality. I cut my own hair first after watching online videos. Everything went well though the back of my head was the most difficult.

It will better in the future has I become more familiar with everything. Next I cut my grandson’s hair and everyone says it looks as good as most shops would do. If the unit lasts like many reviews say they do I know it will be a good long-term investment.

I would recommend to others but remember to be careful with the plastic parts, they are more fragile than they appear. Read the instructions, watch a few videos and you will soon be able to do nice looking, basic haircuts.

I was skeptical. I usually have a problem with barbers tapering one side or the other leaving a choppy spiky look. I have fine blond hair. Also tired of the new wave of barbers who shave the sides close and leave the top long, my wife calls it the hitler cut.

The flowbee did an outstanding job. Better than any barber cut Ive had in last five years at least. Took it slow with progressively shorter spacers from top to bottom so I didnt take to much off all at once.

Once I gained confidence I went shorter. Finished up with electric clippers around ears. Highly recommended just take your time and dont take off too much at once.

I would have given it 5 stars but the hair that is cut goes to the ground and you will have to sweep it up. After reading the instructions and charging the needed 16 hours. I was ready to cut my hair, it says to run the machine up and down to cut, this does not work well, I found that you have to cut in a circular motion and turn it off to remove the hair that is inside the unit.

It does a nice job cutting hair, it comes with the charger, brush, clippers, oil for cutting blades, two cutting height attachments that you have to make sure the lock down button is not in lock mode to attach.

When charging the green light does not come on if fully charged, I had left on charger for over 20 hours and still the red charging light stayed on, so be aware of that. Light weight, hand did not get tired holding while cutting.

To get an even better cut, it is advised to have a 2nd person do the trimming of the back of your neck. I used my electric shaver to shave the back of my neck and that was fine for me.

Got this for Christmas. As a former service member I have learned the art of doing my own hair for as long as I can remember. This was a nice surprise till I tried it out. The charging time is ridiculous.

Not an even cut at all. Charge were out half way through. On the low settings it butchers your hair. Bald in some spots and no cut at all in others. Around the ears ? Ha ! No. Learn to use normal clippers.

Better results with a little practice.

Okay, this kit is great- I’ve already used it a couple of times on my husband’s and brother’s hair and it’s solid, comes with everything you need. I’m taking off two stars because of my overall purchase experience: originally bought this in-store, and took it home to use it only to find out the the kit had been opened and used already; everything was out of its original packaging, items were missing, the razor didn’t have the protective covering and there was HAIR all over.

SO GROSS. Someone had even taped OVER the original closure tape that you need to break in order to open the kit. The whole thing was disgusting and really turned me off of buying from Target, but my husband really wanted this particular kit, and Target had it the cheapest, so we returned the gross one (the employee who helped with the return didn’t even seem to care that it had been opened, used, and then returned by the way) and bought a new one online.

The new one was, thankfully, brand new with all parts unopened and in pristine condition. So: if you see this in store, I wouldn’t take the chance. Most likely it was a return, so just buy it online.

The product itself is great. I was very happy with the quality of the clippers, the attachments and the variety of accessories that came in the kit. Having a fancy barber’s cloth to drape over my victim was great! However, I was quite irritated by a small card that I found in the box.

It was a request from the company to take a survey, and they promised a free gift if I did so. I followed the link to the survey, gave them a glowing review, then followed the link at the end of the survey to get a free hair pomade.

There were two problems: (one) the discount code provided, which is meant to make the product free, doesn’t work, and (2) you have to pay $12. 95 shipping in order to get the product to your house. Overall, this false promise of a “free gift” has left a sour taste in my mouth for the Wahl company in general.

I don’t want to buy products from a company that feels the need to lure customers to their site to buy more stuff by pretending to reward them for making a purchase in the first place. I went from being very happy with my purchase to super irritated.

Definitely not ideal. [Tl;dr: wonderful product, but ignore the “free gift” insert, to avoid a big headache. ].

We had a similar model where the clipper head became mis-aligned. The old clippers lasted about 10 years, so that’s good enough for longevity. Esp when considering costs are recouped by the second hair cut.

Anyways, improved performance from the new clipper was significant and noticeable. That was probably just old vs new. And it’s nice getting all the clipper heads – our old model only had half the clipper guards.

The old model was heavier and felt more solid (made from metal?) while the new one is lighter (made from plastic?). It doesn’t feel as solid, but this is for home use, so this should be fine for low volume use.

A excellent trimmer, for the last 20 years it was always a Wahl. I finally grew very degusted with their products. The lithium batteries with the expensive Wahl always failed within 2 years or sooner.

I could not be happier with this Surker trimmer. It cuts beautifully and its outer body is not all plastic like the Wahl. This is covered in a quality metallic finish. I highly recommend the Surker trimmer.

These clippers are amazing really nice to use. Powerfull done my son’s hair earlier all cut and blended in. And only used 8 percent of the battery and was cutting for roughly 20 minutes. so the battery life should be good on these.

This is an exact replacement for the same grooming tool my husband bought over 20 years ago that finally died of old age. The new one works fine. It was also less expensive than the original one. If this one lasts as long as his original Conair groomer it is a great investment in a quality groomer that might last for many years.

I have had at least 3 of these over many years & they have all been great. I primarily use it to trim my beard every week & the unit does a very good job. I wish that replacement blades were cheaper, because the electric razor seems to never wear out, but the blades are almost as expensive as a whole new unit.

The actual price of the kit has gone up over 50% since my first one, but so have most other shavers. If you oil the blade EVERY TIME you use the razor, the blade will last quite a while & getting a new unit every few years is really no big deal (even at the increased price).

Never cut hair before, much less on my husband’s head. Covid has forced us to take this action and it was a good experience. I watched a few videos on YouTube and went at it. My husband was nervous, I was terrified of a slip, but all went just fine.

The clipper is not like is used in a salon, but is a good quality and the blades give an even cut and are easy to manage on and off. We are thinking I might do this next time it is needed also. The tip was a little stingey but I’ll push for more next time!.

Bought this strimmer set in-store. Personally, I’ve never had a worse trimmer in my life. I’ve oiled the blades like it has instructed and even from the first use, it was really painful to use. I don’t know if the blade isn’t sharp enough or the RPM’s aren’t high enough or what the problem is, but it does NOT cut the way any of my razors have in the past.

I have to go extraordinarily slow in order for it to cut half-way decently and to try to minimize the amount of hair-pulling it seems to do. I like to no-clip/bare shave my face and head and while this thing hurts to shave with (like it’s pulling my hair again as if it isn’t sharp enough or doesn’t have high enough RPM’s) Anyway, it also doesn’t get a very close shave at all – no matter how I adjust the blade depth using the lever on the side – it’s still not anywhere near as close of a shave as I’m used to and would like to have.

Ok, some would ask “well, why don’t you use your old razor then?” Well. I did. for 10 years. The thing finally retired and was a trooper for many many years and unfortunately with it being more than 10 years old, the same model is no longer available on the market.

I chose this set to replace my worn out trimmers and it’s a contender for being the worst $50 I’ve ever spent. I’m left searching once again for a trimmer set that will do a comfortable, clean and close no-clip shave on both my face and my head.

I don’t know if it’s WAHL products in general or if it’s just this particular set, but this was my first experience with using WAHL myself, and I’ll be looking to get a different brand completely to accomplish what I’m looking for.

I have cutting my own hair for about 15 years. It was time for a new set of clippers. This combo set is exactly what I was looking for. It comes with A LOT of clipper guards. I especially like the shorter “in-between” guard sizes for trimming my beard.

The beard and nose hair trimmers work good too. Definitely a bonus to get those in this pack. The only thing is, the small beard trimmer doesn’t come with any clipper guards; which is fine with me. I’ve always used the big clippers for that task anyway.

If you are on the fence, just do it. These are great sturdy clippers with all the extras you will need.

I like these clippers. I keep my hair short for my job and cut it every couple of days. My last clippers started pulling after awhile and were uncomfortable to use. These are about the same size but lighter than the old ones.

They aren’t too loud and don’t vibrate too much. They came with a bunch of stuff I don’t need but gave to my wife. They’re good for the price.

I purchased the Conair Clippers Custom Cut 18-piece Haircut Kit – Mens Home Hair Cutting for my Hubby. He said “it is a great product. The clippers have good weight that makes them easy to use. ” They are of good quality.

He was able to cut his own hair with them by following the instructions that came with the set. I was very please with the out come of his hair cut, I plan on ordering a set for my daughter for my grand son.

These are pretty amazing hair clippers for the price! My son cuts his own hair and I even up the back for him, he had gone to cut his hair a week ago and is old faithful clippers had just stopped working and made a dreadful buzzing noise.

My husband had looked at Walmart and the cheapest pair was between $30-40 and I said hold up – let me check on Amazon, I am sure they have better deals than that on there! I got to looking and was pretty amazed at the price range! Seriously – he just buzz cuts his hair! These work great for his purpose and what a deal!!!.

I have purchased 2 Mangroomers and after the first I was convinced I was a lifetime customer until this last purchase. The blades no longer cut through my back hair and seem to not be made as quality as they used to be.

My first model didn’t have a problem going through my forest of hair but now even with the power boost all it does is tug and rip hair out. The overall quality just seems to be downgraded after making such a quality product and gaining good reviews and supporters.

I’m highly disappointed that such a good product can’t even do the one thing it claims to do, man groom. I will no longer be using this companies products based on the change in blade quality and the inability to cut my back hair.

I have had very short hair for probably 20 years now. There’s only so many options you have when your hair decides it doesn’t want to grow anymore. As far as I’m concerned, I had two options. I could let it bother me and spend all kinds of money and effort trying to get my hair back in one way or another OR I could go for the military buzz and keep it short.

I chose the latter and it’s worked out well for me. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, I would have my head buzzed every 10 – 14 days because I like to keep it as short as possible. Even when my hair is long (14 – 28 days without being buzzed), it’s not very long at all.

It’s manageable and able to be easily buzzed. I have a friend who works for SportClips and before the world shut down, I would give her my business every two weeks. She would keep my head buzzed and I would contribute to her career but since that option is currently unavailable, I decided ManGroomer might be a great alternative for me.

I thought of ManGroomer because I purchased “THE BACKGROOMER™” awhile back and it works just fine. Unlike the Backgroomer, my experience with the ULTIMATE PRO Self-Haircut Kit was not a good one. The clipper did not cut properly.

I used several of the guards, I tried cutting without a guard and I even tried plugging in as opposed to cutting on the battery power thinking I would get more power, but the results were the same in each attempt – painful and ineffective.

The clippers pulled my hair as opposed to cutting in all of my attempts. Thankfully, I have a proper set of Wahl brand hair clippers in my closet that I was able to use to shave my head without any issues after the ManGroomer Self-Cutting Kit failed me.

The packaging was fantastic. The timeliness of delivery was optimal. When I emailed the company for a return and refund request, they literally returned my email and gave me a refund within minutes. It couldn’t have been longer than 10 minutes.

I was incredibly impressed by the response. Not only did they issue me a refund but the team encouraged me to try a couple of more times with their product. All aspects other than the actual product itself were flawless on ManGroomer’s part.

For this reason, I will continue to buy products from ManGroomer because customer service goes a long way with me along with the fact that I bought another one of their products that I’ve had zero issues with.

I’m chalking this up as simply something that didn’t work for me. It may work for someone else and despite my negative experience with this particular line of ManGroomer’s product, I am not discouraged by the brand and I look forward to using more of their products in the future.

The ShortCut Pro Self-Haircut kit changes everything with my shaving routine! It’s easy to use and easy to clean, and incredibly quick! What used to take me up to an hour with simple shaving razors now takes me only up to 20 minutes at most! The charging time seemed long, but the shaving time was so quick, so waiting isn’t an issue.

Cleaning the razor was a breeze too; the instructions given were clear as day, and I don’t see a problem in taking care of this great product for the foreseeable future.

I almost had buyers remorse. After buying this model, I was reading the reviews on another website. Seems like the Wahl Clipper Elite (about 1. 8X the cost) was better rated. Oh well, since mine was on order.

I received it, and used it. I couldn’t be happier. I don’t think I would have gained anything with the other model. The guards attach solidly and give a consistent cut. The cutters smoothly cut the hair with no pulling what so ever.

Great value. For the price of 1 hair cut, all my future cuts are FREE.

I purchased the Wahl Color Trimmer Kit because my 10+year old trimmer, a Phillips Norelco Grooming Kit G485 battery would no longer hold a charge. With the Norelco I could never get a clean one-length cut which was the one thing I hated with the trimmer.

This Wahl Color Trimmer solved that problem, no more uneven length cuts with balding or scalped areas. I especially like the Secure-Fit Guards with large, easy-to-see comb sizes that are color coded, and YES, they will give you the length you want with no ‘scalping’ and uneven cuts of facial hair.

The colored Secure-Fit Guards are easy to snap into place, although I do wonder how these plastic snap-clips will wear over time with the constant removal for cleaning the blade area. The Wahl Color Trimmer is powerful, not overly noisy and feels great in the hand.

I’m hoping to get many years of use and the price was excellent, under thirty bucks. The kit came with an Ear & Nose Trimmer which I have not used yet. Before the first use, I charged the trimmer for 24-hours and the red led light on the front of the trimmer stays on while charging; it does not go off or turn ‘green’ to let you know when the trimmer is charged, something I wish it did.

I purchased the WHAL trimmer with high expectations, and I can say with all honesty that my expectations were met. The trimmer comes in attractive packaging that is contemporary and has a an easily understood description of the functions.

When I opened the box to use it for the first time it had a comfortable feel to it and has easy to use controls. It’s simplified color-coded Key on the trimmer makes it easy to select the proper comb for the trim length one would like to use and it;s easy to replace the combs on the trimmer.

I have used Wahl products in the past, and I have to say that the Wahl Color Pro Hair and Beard Trimmer for men, is like having professional hair equipment in your hand. I bought mine from Walmart model 9891-100 for the ridiculously low price of $20.

The best 20 I’ve ever spent. You can’t get lost using this product, because your trimmers are color coded, and the instructions guide you to a perfect trim of your hair, your body, and especially your beard! Also, the guards range from 1/16′ to 1/2′.

Did I mention that it is cordless? It comes with a cord also, but how convenient. It is also has self- sharpening blades, which means no snagging or irritation. If that isn’t enough, it’s a Wahl.

I received a used set of clippers. This is really gross. It is unacceptable to sell a used body grooming item. I determined that the clippers were used due to the fact that the plastic showed wear and there were finger prints on the metal parts.

I received the Conair Number Cut 20 piece kit free to test. This kit is the perfect option for a family or even for pets. The kit comes with 10 combs to choose from depending on the length you want and you can adjust the taper control as well.

I believe you have 5 setting to choose from. What I really like is that the blades are self sharpening. I’ve had several other kits that were nice but over time, the blades did become dull after about a year.

This kit certainly seems to be higher quality than others in the same price range. For those that have not cut hair before, you can’t mess things up with this kit. The instructions are straightforward and the trimmer itself has each comb’s length as a quick guide.

Highly recommend for husbands and their kids. Could use on pets too but not going to use this one for our family pet.

I haven’t been to the barber shop ln years. I’ve been cutting my own hair for years now. I cut my friends, family, and my own kid’s hair. ( Not women hair). These clippers are decent for the price point.

“Zero” cuts very close and clean which I appreciate alot. The attachments are all colored so it’s very easy to switch. I will say, when I first opened the package and took it apart to clean and oil it.

During the first use it pulled my hairs. I feel like the pieces have to get worn in alittle because after the 3rd/4th time cutting hair, it didn’t do this anymore. My friend also got a kit and he had a very similar issue.

The only other complaint I could see is that the material the housing of the clipper is made of attracts the hair. Similar to a static kind of feel, the hairs stick to the clippers and it’s hard to brush them all off to keep it clean.

All in all, it is a great affordable kit. Although it feels lite weight and cheap, I feel like it I got my money’s worth.

I have a Mohawk and have been cutting my own hair weekly for two years now with no previous experience. I recently purchased this wahl clipper because the clipper I had before (also wahl professional) had been over-oiled and I kind of wrecked it by accident being such a noob.

In this clipper set there are proper oiling instructions so that I can’t ruin them. A+ for that feature alone! I had tried a home clipper by wahl (not professional grade) and I didn’t feel it got as close on the 0 setting and the housing was lighter plastic so it would vibrate so much I couldn’t properly see what I was doing.

The blades were also wider and it made it difficult to get close enough to my hair line for a proper cut. I like my sides very very short and this gets the job done with no snagging and honestly less vibration than the home cut clippers and a more narrow blade set.

Heavier since they are professional but these are great clippers even if you’re just a metal chick with a Mohawk and not a barber.

Outstanding hair clippers! I love my new Wahl Pro Series!!! Soooo much better than my other cheap clippers! I own a HC-60 Remington and HC408R Conair, both of which I “thought” were good clippers. They do a decent enough job cutting, but take FOREVER to get done.

I cut my hair about every 3 – 4 months (so not too long of hair) using the 1/2″, 3/8″, and 1/4″ clips and it ALWAYS took 30 – 40 minutes to get done (plus I was always constantly stopping to dig cut hair out of the clips, which also made time take too long).

With my Wahl Pro Series, hair cutting has become a joyful breeze, taking 15 minutes – MAX!!! They cut smooth, quick, and clean. Such a HUGE upgrade over the other clippers I’ve used! I can’t stress this enough, they are such great quality (in my opinion), and fast cutting.

The only “negative”, is they are much HEAVIER than most other hair clippers (which might be a testament to their better quality motor), so you have to MAKE SURE YOU HOLD THEM GOOD, OR THEY COULD SLIP OUT OF YOUR HAND AND GET DROPPED ON THE FLOOR (you may be saying “Duh” right now, “Of coarse you have to hold them good” but until your actually holding and using them, you wont fully understand why i’m mentioning this.

I am an older male. cut my own hair. have done so for many years. $20 for a simple haircut is RIDICULOUS! I have had and tried so many clippers over the years. All the top brands affordable ones. Most last 6 haircuts before having issues.

I bought these at Walmart 2 years ago. KNOWING for $11 they are disposable. Well 20 haircuts and 40 face hair groomings later. they are still working perfectly!! I am a pretty harsh reviewer. not easily impressed.

Even if I had paid $50 I would still say these are amazing and have out-performed every other clippes I have had. BY FAR! The fact they are only $11. they are one of the few things I have ever purchased that blows me away.

Not sure why others have had issues with theirs. hard to believe after what I have experienced. Mine are still sharp. honestly cut perfectly. Enough power that they have never bogged down. Never needed adjusting or cleaning.

just a dab of oil every now and then. I can’t suggest trying a set of these enough!!.

I really enjoy using this product. I’m a novice, and this kit makes it really easy to cut my hair. It comes with full proof guards for the clippers and oil to keep the blades fresh so they don’t wear.

I’ll eventually upgrade to a more sophisticated product as my skills improve, but, for now, this set works great. I would definitely recommend it to someone who wants to start cutting their own hair or just refresh their cut in-between hair appointments.

P. S. This is my 3rd set of clippers. I wore out the other two to the point where they didn’t work anymore, they were so worn out. That’s how much I LOVE using this product!.

My boyfriend bought these for me to cut his hair. It was an awful experience to say the least. It took nearly 30 minutes to cut his hair because it kept clogging up. The biggest problem was that the teeth were breaking off while I was using it and it scratched up his head and neck.

So upset with this product that we threw it away immediately. Cheap and painful.

“Virtually Indestructible” my rear end! Got this Remington to replace my 30-year-old Wahl clippers thinking “On sale AND virtually indestructible? Okay, worth a shot. ” After a year the mostly yellow plastic construction had all but worn out, the motor was burnt out and I was back to using my classic Wahl setup.

I love my Remington rifles and they can make a great product, just not these particular clippers. I’ve since gotten myself a Wahl Color Pro rig and have once again hung-up my classic Wahl rig in semi-retirement on a wall in my shop.

If my new Wahl fails I know I can go back to it: a great team starts and ends with a deep bench ; ).

I have cut my own hair for over 10 years. This is the third clipper I have purchased during that time. It’s the first one made by Remington. I read horror stories of some clippers, “. Pulling the hair out, not cutting it”.

I want my clipper to be light weight. This one is small and light weight. I have cut my hair two times with it so far. It cuts very smoothly and fast. It is easy to hold. It is slightly smaller than most clippers.

The blade easy detaches for cleaning. I don’t have anything negative to say about this product. I think it is well made, does a great job, and well worth the money.

After using another brand clipper for years it finally gave out. I purchased a Remington HC80 and have used it at most 4 times. Though it is a additional oiling model it is already pulling on hair and not cutting.

Remington was once a good quality brand. Not any more. Never again buy this brand.

This goes with us on every overnight trip we go on. My boyfriend may have long hair and a long beard, but he takes very good care of his self. he keeps his hair and beard very well groomed. It has everything he needs inside and that’s what matters the most.

Considering the low price and lack of a brand name, I didn’t have high expectations. I was pleasantly surprised. It feels more solid (heavier) and sounds better than the well known brand it replaced.

Also, the attachments interchange. As a bonus, it came with scissors, comb, small cleaning brush, and an assortment trimmer attachments. I am very pleased with my purchase.
