20 Best Self Closing Drawer Slides (2023 Updated)

Two years ago I decided to use these self closing side mount drawer slides on the new kitchen cabinets I was building. They were less expensive. Two years later the self closing mechanism only works on two or three drawers out of 14.

I wish I had not tried to cut this particular corner.

As the expression goes, “The proof of the pudding is in the eating. ” I have yet to install these slides but from all appearances they should last a very long time under normal usage. And I think the price was very reasonable considering that these are not just slides but also self closing.

The slides deserve a 5 for ease of installation, function, strength, durability and being hidden beneath the drawer which is essential if you want your dovetails to be visible. I was very disappointed however that the kit did not come with the adjustable locks.

Apparently these have to be ordered separately if you can find them and this significantly increases the overall price total. I just felt the slides initial cost was high enough to include the better locks and reduce the frustration of having to order them separately which after several months and two separate orders I still haven’t received a single adjustable lock.

I am a Union Cabinetmaker for 39 years and have installed thousands of drawer slides from name brand undermounts to no name side mounts as specified by architects. I needed to replace some of my 30 year old side mount kitchen slides, so I choose KV 8450FM Slides.

The drawer outside dimension must be 1″ less (not 1-1/16″), so I had to shim accordingly which took several hours to correctly align a radius corner drawer, trash pull out drawer, and a regular drawer.

I had 3 different kinds of slides to replace (nylon roller, 3 tier heavy duty, and full extension lift off). This was not a swap out/in replacement. The resulting operation of the drawers are perfect: you could not get the closing fluidity any better for a side mount.

The soft closing mechanism works well. It takes time to get the shimming correct for alignment and operation. I definitely recommend these slides if you are willing to take your time and shim properly.

I would buy these slides again.

Works like it’s suppose to. Had the same brand but not soft close so all I had to do was remove and install. The hardest part is working in the limited space inside the cabinet.

Great price on these. They also had them in stock 12″ is not the most popular/in-demand size…

These KV8400 slides are plain old steel with a coating. This listing needs to be corrected. The KV6400 series is stainless steel but Crown-Ace does not carry them. The 8400 series are very durable and I have had a pair mounted on a trailer for ten years.

They are now worn and in need of replacement but i have been unable to find a local store that actually stocks them.

Very well built slide. I have used these is several applications, i. e. kitchen, shop, and furniture, and the perform very well. 100% better than the “off the shelf†slides that Home Depot or Lowe’s sells.

I still haven’t received them and am not getting enough communication.

To put this in context I am a fairly experienced DIY’er not a pro. I’ve only installed drawer slides on one previous occasion about 7 years ago. I used Accuride brand slides previously. Unlike the slides I used previously these have a couple of right angle tabs on the drawer member, so the drawer is supported by these tabs and not only the screws.

This seems like a good idea but of course it strictly limits the position of the slide relative to the drawer. In my application it worked fine, but it was a surprise. The slides came with instructions on the back of the packing.

Unfortunately the instructions are for a different model of slide and as a result are useless. There is a tiny note that directs the buyer to Rockler’s website for more info. I failed to read this and ended up with an extensive web search for info.

After reviewing the correct instructions I decided to follow directions from a YouTube video. I made 2 drawers each for 3 different size cabinets. The install of the first 4 went great but on the fifth drawer, it wouldn’t slide in.

I re-checked the measurements and math – all good. I removed the cabinet member and discovered that part of the mechanism was bent and ball bearings were falling out. The opposite member also had damage?!! Rockler was excellent about exchanging the damaged slides for a new set.

Finally, all installed, the extension is not what I’d call a “full extension” there are about 2 inches left in the cabinet. If I were to do another job I’d opt for the Accuride again.

I purchased 24 Knape & Vogt full extension, soft-close slides for my kitchen remodel. At first, I was very happy with the slides. Then, they started to break. I was happy when the Knape & Vogt customer service provided me with replacement slides.

But, then more and more slides broke, including the replacement slides. It was a lot of work and hassle to continuously replace the slides. We had to empty and uninstall all of the drawers, especially when the top drawer was broken.

We cannot keep replacing the slides! Now, we have drawers that are no longer soft-close, or even worse, they don’t close all the way – they must be manually forced closed. These slides are poor quality and have no longevity.

I cannot believe that they cannot even stand up to normal home kitchen use. We even have drawers that are rarely used, and the slides still broke! I will never use Knape & Vogt products again!.

I could have measured more accurately how they realized the thickness of the full extension glides were half an inch in thickness. I needed 3 Small washers to finalize on both sides a good fit. Had I known I would have made the shelf a quarter of an inch wider.

The website says they don’t include the screws (in small print, off to the side) and they’re weird #7×1/2″, something I can’t find easily around town. It’s worth noting that the documentation included with the slides says the screws are included.

The slides are pretty nice though. I’ve never purchased slow closers before, but I was surprised how much force they take to open, but that slow close action is so satisfying.

The price on these was low, unfortunately the quality matches. They seem to be built sturdy but there is a ton of up/down and side to side play. This play affects the inset drawer face reveal as items are added or removed from the drawer due to weight change.

They are ok for a workshop, but I will continue to buy Blum for finer cabinets.

This product is absolutely amazing! This quality for this price? All I can say is WOW!! I replaced all my kitchen hardware with these soft close ones and I’m impressed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

These are an inexpensive alternative to Blum and basically work just as well. My only issue is they need to link the correct screws for the quick release on this page (the ones in related products are not it).

Had a drawer, since being built, that didn’t open well. There was always something wrong with the slides. After using muscle to open it for years, finally went an purchased these. The installation my son & I did was simple as we had the other holes to use for lining up, and now the drawer opens easily each time I open it.

Why hadn’t we done this earlier???!!! So grateful each time I use it. Want to get some more for the drawer above it, which isn’t half as bad, but not as smooth as these.

I bought five of these drawer slide pairs. They are. robust and can hold the drawer and quite a bit of weight. Easy to install but you have to be aware of your tolerances between the drawers and the cabinet frame.

They slide open and closed quite easily. The only reason I gave them a four and not a five is because one side of one pair came apart and I had to return it. The new one worked fine however so I’m putting it down to a random flaw.

Great set of glides. I’ve used these full extension glides on drawers in my kitchen and garage and they have never disappointed me! Worth the higher cost in my opinion. Fairly easy to install and they hold a lot of weight! I’ve got my 100+ lb thickness planer sitting in one of the drawers!.

I know I’m happy to have my drawers updated. And only with a new slider. These make everything close smoothly.

They were easy to install. No more slamming of doors

I used these for my kitchen drawers and they are great. Installation was easy and quick. I had to get used to pulling a little harder to open drawers, but that was no longer a problem after a couple days.

One set of 4 drawers goes from counter to the floor and I quickly realized I needed to pull the drawers OUT, instead of up. I guess I naturally pulled up on them before, when opening them from a standing position.

If I do that now, the drawer will not soft-close, and instead close like they did before. The next time you open the drawer though, the soft close resets. Just more learning. One drawer I have measures 24″, so I bought 2 soft-close mechanisms for that drawer, as recommended.

I found the drawer too hard to open though, so just removed one side and it works much better.

I was originally going to replace my cabinet drawer slides but my current ones were some odd size so a direct replacement was not an option. I came across these adapters and after some thought I decided to give them a shot.

Because of the way my cabinets are i was not able to use the back anchor point on the adapters. However, this ended up not being an issue, the adapters work amazingly well. I used one adapter per drawer including my big utensil one and it was able to function without any issues! Like some other reviewers had mentioned they add a little resistance when you first pull out the drawer the first inch or two as that’s setting the catch mechanism but its not that noticeable.

The only reason I have these 4* was there are supposed to be these small plastic guides on the front of the adapters for helping you line it up with the face of the cabinet. However, they’re extremely fragile as 3 out of the 4 I bought arrived broken so I had to line them up manually.

These soft-closers are easy to install UNDER PERFECT CONDITIONS but make it difficult to open the drawer especially if there is no handle/knob to pull. This I don’t like since the drawers were always so easy to open and now they’re not.

The tradeoff is not worth it in my opinion. Also make sure the original (epoxy) drawer slides are exactly as the installation videos show and are installed on the very bottom of the sides of the drawer.

If they’re any higher on the side (which is a possibility), you won’t have enough room to work with if the drawers aren’t very deep. You also have to make sure the inside of the cabinet (wall) is close to the drawer or there’s nothing to screw the closers into.

I had this exact problem (not realizing it before I bought them) and had to make wood blocks to glue on the cabinet wall so the screws of the closers had something to dig in to. All this work was not worth the end result, drawers hard to open.

I’ll live with it for now but may remove them later if they don’t loosen up. Lesson learned.

I’m somewhat confused. I originally purchased 4 of the items which are identical to the one in this order. Now, with only 1 of a like item purchased, I receive a survey! There was no survey for the larger purchase – I don’t follow the logic – what am I missing?.

Worked as advertised. I thought I’d never find any single-track hardware for drawers! Our kitchen is over forty-five years old and the cabinets all have the single-track hardware on them! You make a quality product and installation was fairly easy! I would easily recommend this product to anyone!!.
