20 Best Self Closing Door Hinges (2023 Updated)

It works great. I have a Yeasu 550 with a headset and this was required to use the mike on the headset.

Because I found them. They are a vanishing commodity.

The numbers matched up to replace kitchen cabinet Hinges.

I bought hinges, drawer handles and knobs for my kitchen – all Hickory products, I believe, from Build. com. All worked very well and look really nice. I was very happy with the choices available and it has made me realize what a difference good looking hardware can make.

Just bought them …they look nice. Haven’t put them on the doors yet.

They seem of good quality .we will install in the near future.

Looks to be a very good hinge from Amerock, but over the past 30 years they have changed the design and dimensions ever so slightly different and they will not replace the old style 7128 model hinge.

The picture is deceiving and will make you think that this is the same as your old hinge. Old hinges are stamped 7128 and picture on Home Essentials Direct and looks to be EXACTLY like your old hinges but they are not.

I even called them to try to find exact hinges. To use these new style hinge, you have to put a 1/16″ wooden shim behind every hinge and possibly make other adjustments. I am not saying this is not a good hinge because I think it is.

I am saying it will not fit its 30 year counterpart without some work. Please update the Home Essentials Direct photo to look like the new hinges. That would be the first thing I do.

I bought these to update existing cabinets. They just didn’t fit right. The doors wouldn’t sit properly (sat high and too far in such that the doors would overlap). They just weren’t right for my application.

They seemed to be well made and good quality. The auto close was pretty extreme. I ended up using rustoleum universal metallic paint on the old hinges to surprisingly good results. I didn’t go through the return process on the hinges b/c I used the screws that came with them on the old hinges.

Updating a kitchen; like tile, hinge design is changed every 5-7 years. So, if one breaks, the manufacturers force you to change all. So, yes, holes do not line up with the old ones. What we found effective is to use an open hinge as a template on the cabinet front.

Drill the mounting holes on the cabinet front. Align hinge on the back of the door and drill holes. Mount hinge to frame and then attach doors. We did 27 sets this way and worked perfectly. Used door knobs and drawer pulls from Amerock and have a polished kitchen facelift.

Fifty year old builder grade wood shelving and cabinet in den got an update by painting everything white. Out with the horrid looking hardware. In with some nice looking knobs and hinges.

This is about as inexpensive a self-closing cabinet hinge as you can find. I purchased it to replace an (almost) identical hinge on a Merillat cabinet that had worn out over the years. The new hinge is not quite the same color (but close enough so someone unfamiliar with the swap would probably never notice), and it requires an additional screw compared to the old one.

The exchange went smoothly, so I am satisfied with the replacement. If the new hinge lasts as long as the old one (over 20 years), I will have no complaint.

My wife was complaining that kitchen cabinet doors would not stay shut. Our home was built 24 years ago. Cabinets which are used daily started not closing completely or would not stay closed. I tried to figure out if there was an adjustment but to no avail.

The Blum hinges have two parts. One part attaches (anchors) to the cabinet frame and has a slot which receives a sliding part from section two. It was obvious that this anchor part has no moving parts and DOES NOT NEED REPLACEMENT.

At big box stores they only sell complete hinges. You pay dearly for complete hinges. I was able to purchase Blum 33. 3600 hinges for a lower price. Ordered online. It was a simple unscrew each hinge and replace one at a time.

DO NOT REMOVE BOTH HINGES AT ONCE. Its much easier replacing one at a time. My wife is happy and now its onward to whatever the next repair happens. Next i tried to buy replacement hinges at a big box store.

This hinge is a perfect replacement for the 30. 310-11. 02 hinge on my Sharps bedroom wardrobe doors. where the springs have broken. So I can now carry out a DIY repair to get the doors to self close once again.

They are great quality and competitively priced. Am very happy!.

Was used to replace one of a previous Blum model on a cupboard door which had a broken spring. Slotted into place fine, screw holes in different place – perhaps deliberately designed – so no problem with having to re-use the same screw holes.

So a quick job.

This spring hinge has solved a huge problem for us. We have a small dog that for some reason has decided that our closet is a fine place to use the bathroom. Now that we have installed this spring hinge he can no longer enter our bedroom and therefore can’t get to our closet.

You should have seen his face the first time the door shut right in his face. I almost felt sorry for him. It takes a little experimentation to get the hinge set just right. You want it tight enough to close the door but not so tight that it slams it with force.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it was missing the set screw. My husband found a screw that works but sticks out farther than it is supposed to. I meant to exchange it but unfortunately let the return period expire.

Perfect! We have a closet that one of our dogs loved to nap in and twice got stuck in there when someone didn’t realize he had walked in behind them. With this new hinge the door shuts as soon as you walk in and no more stuck pups! The door closes right away but it also closes gentle so there is no slammed door.

The door will always latch unless you hold it until it gets a few inches from the door jam, if you release it from this point it will not latch. It came with everything needed and had clear instructions.

It was installed in about 6 minutes. Added note: we did not need the enclosed Allen wrench for installation – no idea why that was included. Highly recommed this hinge for any door that you want to make sure is always closed.

Used to replace standard European hinges for a glass panel cabinet door. Our stiles are only 1″ x 2″ oak. Measure the panels correctly as there is no horizontal adjustment for these hinges. Cut out one cabinet stile and in the other cabinet added shims.

Worked out well as you have to look very closely to even notice the adjustments.

I don’t know how long these will last, but the work and they look good. There easy to install if you know what your doing and have the right tools. These self close the cabinet door once the door gets close to the closing point.

They don’t have a lot of spring tension and won’t slam the door, but if you don’t hang the door perfectly and the rub on any part of the cabinet then the hing will not close the door all the way.

While refurbishing my daughter cabinets, I purchased these to replace the old ones ( Amerock ) that were the same brand that were not self closing. I measured the dimensions carefully to make sure the hinges fit the existing holes on the doors.

As it turned out the holes on cabinet do not line up exactly with the ones that do not self close. It appears that there is a slight offset of about 1/16 inch that is due to the way the springs work.

I had to re-drill the mounting holes on the cabinet. It worked OK, but very close to the existing holes. The appearace, look and function, were fine. She was very happy with the outcome as was I. If your buying these to replace existing hinges that are not self closing with the same door dimension be aware that the existing cabinet holes will need to be re-drilled.

All of the hinges we received are defective – the self closing feature does not work (cabinet doors have to be guided all the way to be closed). Unfortunately we didn’t know this until all of the doors were hung.

Haven’t contacted the company because we’re not sure we are excited to rehang all the cabinet doors (30 doors in all) – too many other projects to work on – so we will probably just deal with them as they are.

There are no screws included. There are no instructions for what sizes of screws to use. This is pretty important.

Very light weight hinges, probably ok for today’s lighter weight wood, but cannot bear the weight of older, heavier cabinets. Will seek to return these for more substantial hinges. Easy Install, though.

These were almost perfect. Unfortunately they did not work for my client…. I will use elsewhere. Does not discourage me from ordering products for other clients

I have cabinets built in 60’s hinges were not exactly 3/8’s inch. could not use, but hinges were nice.

These hinges were a very good value and as good as or better than what you get in the store, but at a fraction of the price. I have already installed all 50 pieces I purchased in all of my doors. And they all work perfectly.

Just make sure when you order a hinge, that you know your corner radius measurement so you’ll get the right ones that fit your door perfectly. I replaced all the crappy old brass hinges I used to have with these nice brushed nickel units.

Cant beat the price here. Replacing 40 doors worth of hinges is downright awful, but paying retail is even worse. At about $1/hinge, this seller makes it more affordable. One note – these are basically black.

Installed these on a million dollar house. The hinges look great and work great. Screws for both wood and steel doors are included. Much less expensive than the ones I get from my building supply wholesaler.

Exactly what I needed to replace old hinges. Screws fit in old holes so easy to install. Look great. Price was right, too.

Product looked as advertised. The part that screws into the cabinet door is sturdy metal. The part that screws into the wall is very thin metal and on some of the hinges the door fit changed slightly if the hinge base was screwed all the way into the wall.

Holes didn’t line up exactly with old hinge, but it works fine.

The hinges I received were of good quality and well finished. I used them as replacements and was well pleased with the ease with which they attached to the original mounting holes and how strongly they closed.

Decent hinges for the money. Not as nicely stamped as the 40 year old US made hinges we’re replacing, but dimensionally identical, with less rust & tarnish. I would buy again.

Bought to replace wrong hinges in my daughter’s corner unit. Did the job! Had to drill out new hinge cabinet side bracket to fit larger screws from old hinge (pre drilled) different make I suppose!

These are well made and generally great for wide opening doors (170degrees) HOWEVER I was using these to replace older Blum 90degree versions. For some reason Blum had changed the mounting plate screw hole diameter (6mm->5mm) and made them round rather than slots (no longer adjustable for height).

As I had to use the old screws/holes it involved a lot of unnecessary drilling and filing of the new mounting plates. WHY !!!!!! change this?.

I hate kitchen cabinets where the doors open only 90 degrees. so, I wanted to change mine to the 170 degree full overlay ones. But, I am hardly an expert in hinges. I used my phone camera to take a picture of an existing hinge, and you were able to tell me exactly what I needed to accomplish my goal — including the part number.

I ordered 16 – and had a handyman do the install. It was fast and easy (for him) and I am so happy with the new hinges and the way the doors now open.

Could not be more pleased with these Blum SOFT-close hinges for upgrading our kitchen cabinet doors. Including shipping and tax, these cost about $2. 40 a piece. They were an exact fit replacement, so each hinge was replaced in about a minute: remove 3 screws, pop out the old, pop in the new, and reinsert the same 3 screws.

New screws were provided but I didn’t use them. Our cabinets are 2002 Merillat with Blum SELF-close hinges stamped 38. 3-02E10 5/8 (shown in the pictures), but after much searching found that they were listed in the catalog as “Blum Compact 38.

3550E10″ and are now discontinued. After much more searching (because I found the current Blum catalog PDF incomplete), turns out the equivalent and current Compact SOFT-close hinge is 38N355B. 10. On each door, I tried replacing just one hinge.

If that didn’t soft-close well enough, I replaced a second hinge. The largest doors (about 16″W x 39″H with 3 hinges) definitely needed two hinges replaced to get a good soft close. Some smaller doors with 2 hinges also did better with two replacement hinges.

The smallest doors only required one replacement hinge. Unfortunately, I had to spend more time searching the internet and becoming a Blum hinge expert than the time it took to replace 40 hinges.

A very fine design. I used the Blum hinge for mid-size doors. For heavier oak doors I would recommend using the two screw cabinet front type of hinge

I had 2 doors with hinges that wouldn’t stay closed. I tried the soft close out and really liked them. Instead of having just 2 doors with soft close, I decided to get them for every cabinet door in my kitchen.

This site is a better value and they arrived pretty quick.

I purchased the oil rubbed bronze Amerock variable overlay hinges and the Hopewell oil rubbed bronze bar pulls simultaneously from Rockler. The finish on the pulls was an unsatisfactory match to the hinges.

The pulls were returned. Mounting the hinges to the face frame was tedious. Fighting the self-closing spring over-travel in the hinges in tight space was difficult. Getting the hinges mounted with satisfactory door alignment was near impossible.

These hinges are the best and easy to install. I bought them when I sanded and painted bathroom cabinets. They were perfect as a finishing touch. Bought them again after redoing kitchen cabinets. You can find “like” hinges at local box stores, but those are too bulky and doors won’t seat well.

The hinges are great. However, many of the screws were defective in that they had metal pieces in the screw driving hole. Made it difficult to use or not able to use at all.

Really pleased with hinges. Came with all the bits and bobs including some plastic covers and door buffers pads and screws. The fixed bracket has plastic surrounds for the securing pins which are good but if fitted into a hole are not easily removed so ensure you fix to the right holes.

You can replace them with the more common securing pins but obviously would have to obtain those. Anyway I was really pleased with the hinges and with the covers looked really good. Oh and really liked the simplicity of adjustment.

Always find normally adjusting hinges a little confusing but these made the job easier to me.

So happy I found your website and got all the help from one of your representatives. I only ordered a few initially to make sure they fit. These were backordered a for about a week. I anxiously found another website that had them in stock and ordered a few from them but they were priced per hinge, not per door.

I do have to say, Rockler has the better price, better customer service, and also the hardware came with covers to hide all the screws! (The other website did not) I purchased the rest of my hardware from Rockler to finish my kitchen.

Hinge is a good quality with a nice finish. I was replacing older non-soft-close hinges. Replacement was straightforward but a little tricky in some cases. It would be nice to have an adjustment for door closing speed or spring tension, but this hinge does not have it.

It was a great price through Woodworkers.
