No peanuts! If you have a child in your house or garden that has a peanut allergy, this is the bird seed to use for your feeder. It is high quality , large variety of seeds, but no peanuts. My grandson is highly allergic to peanuts, so even one stray peanut on the ground could put him into anaphylactic shock and probably kill him.

So it is important that even when he plays outside, there are no peanuts anywhere. And besides all of this – the birds here in SW Wisconsin just love the mixture! The price here is about twice what my local garden center sells this 5-pound bag for.

So shop around. (There is a peanut warning on the bag, as the mixture is processed in a facility that processes peanuts, so I don’t let my grandson fill the feeder or handle the mixture).

The backyard wild birds just love this mix of seed in lower Alabama. There is very little waste. I’ve been using Cole’s brand for years. Sometimes I have to suspend feeding for a week or two because they eat it so fast.

This is usually in early to mid spring when the various species of blackbirds are passing through on their way up north. Being in a warmer climate I use this mix all year round.

This is great bird seed, we get a lot more birds (and different types) using this mix. It is a little more costly than some, but it is offset by how little waste there is. Birds love it and clean my feeders out.

It took a while for the goldfinches to come back to my feeder due to the fact the previous seed I had in the feeder, which was Wagner’s, was stale. It was a brand new bag but sadly the finches were not visiting the feeder, and I realized it was because the seed was stale.

Not sure why a brand new bag of seed would be stale, something Wagner needs to look into and amend. But to my delight, after a few days of having the Lyric nyjer seed out, the finches returned and now I have several visiting the feeder, daily.

So glad that Lyric is maintaining the freshness and quality of their nyjer seed. I will be purchasing again in the future.

I used to have hummingbird feeders, but finches are almost as colorful, are twice as big, and have fewer fights over “their” territory. And I prefer this dry finch food over the sticky, red hummingbird liquid.

I keep a plastic garbage can under the feeder because the seeds (or shells? I don’t know) get a little messy. The feeder is in the backyard and next to a window on the other side of a cat climbing tower, so the cats are entertained.

I bought this brand because the seed is always fresh and eaten readily by the birds! I have found that the mesh socks work best for delivering this wonderful food to my finches, that love to hang out in the sun and feast! For me, the value of this product is that it is actually eaten when I put it out.

I bought this because I thought it was the preferred food of finches and some other birds. I had even bought the special feeder from Perky Pet. I put some of this seed into the feeder and hung it on a clothesline near a dwarf pear tree in the back corner of my yard, a few days before a snowstorm.

I watched every day, but the only time any small birds(sparrows?) tried to eat from it was during the snowstorm when they were desperate. After about a month with no birds eating from this feeder, I finally started spreading this nyger seed on a ground platform where pigeons and blackbirds, and sparrows eat.

They eat some other seeds and suet nuggets there but leave the nyger seed and only eat a small amount as the last resort. I was just reading articles online and found out that finches prefer a mixture of 3 or 4 kinds of seeds including nyger seed, but don’t like nyger seed by itself.

This is my first time ordering Wagner’s Sunflower Hearts & Chips. This brand of seed is not available in my area so I am very happy that Chewy carries it. I am extremely pleased with this purchase. I have tried many other brands of sunflower seeds before and Wagner’s is hands down the BEST! Super high quality and I highly recommend it.

The price can’t be beat with the 3 bag bundle. So far, all of our wild birds and squirrels are LOVING this seed! I really needed something that was waste free and didn’t create a mess because I live in a townhouse and have to be mindful of my neighbors.

My friend got us started with Wagner’s Nyjer seed last summer, after spending far too much for small quantities of other brands in local stores. The finches LOVE it – I have seen up to 10 at a time on one sock feeder! Unfortunately, sparrows have discovered our patio feeders and have driven away many of the finches.

So I’m now trying mixes of different foods in some of the feeders, hoping the sparrows will prefer those and leave the pure Nyjer to the little guys (I also want to try a tube feeder). We’ve gone through at least six 20-pound bags of Wagner’s Nyjer in 6 months and have had no problems with quality or packaging.

I only purchase “waste free” bird seed and Kaytees brand is a really good one! It’s the first bag I’ve seen so far that has the suet pellets in it. The Blue Jays, Woodpeckers, Titmice, Nuthatches, and Chickadees love it! The Doves, Juncos, and Finches eat the other seeds.

There is literally nothing left at the end of the day. I feed them from my deck and feeders in the trees and I love that there is no mess to clean up. The waste free is a little pricier than regular bird seed, but so worth it! Highly recommend!.

Kaytee is consistently fresher than other brands of wild finch food I have bought. It is a clear favorite of my backyard flock in side by side “test”. I can smell the difference! My yard is full of finches and sparrows, to my utter delight.

I wouldn’t have believed the difference if I hadn’t seen it myself, they will literally fight over the best spots for the kaytee food and the losers reluctantly head for the other feeder. Not buying that stuff anymore.

I used to think Nyjer seed was the be-all and end-all of finch seed. Not anymore! Right now, the only finches eating the plain Nyjer seed are the ones who can’t find spots on my Ultra Wild Finch seed stations.

There is Nyjer seed in the mix, but that doesn’t seem to be the attraction. I think they like the bits of sunflower seeds and peanut hearts the best. I offer the seed in mesh socks and also on trays–all are fully covered with ravenous finches! Definitely worth the $$.

we bought a large piece of property about four years ago and a good five acres of it had been clearcut by the previous owners. It was bare and sad and so our first year we bought several big sacks of both the native flower and the midwest pollinator mixes and just spread it everywhere.

I didn’t much think about it afterward, but last year we were walking back there and realized we had a field of flowers, a lot of it chest height (the milkweed in particular is massive and impressive and took root all over the place), butterflies and bees everywhere, all the way right up until mid-fall.

We contrasted it with an area of the clear-cut a little separated from the rest that we didn’t get to with the seeds because we were too lazy to walk that far, and the difference was pretty stark. Some native flowers have crept over there, but it is comparatively much more bare, and the cover that has grown is smaller and close to the ground.

Idk how this would do for a small garden, but wow this is a really nice choice if you have a large bare area that gets a good bit of sun, it really helped build up a habitat from what was essentially a wasteland.

Prepped the area and did every thing right. I’m not sure if I received the wrong seeds but many varieties of wildflowers that did not belong in my mix appeared. Little disappointing since I was hoping for only natives.

It looks wonderfully but not the native Meadow I was hoping for. Id estimate 15 different types of blooms so far. Fingers are crossed that the unwanted annuals do not come back and the perennials next year will make up for unwanted plants.

We love the flower mixes. We bought to put on the mound system so we didn’t have to mow it repeatedly and to attract more butterflies. Results have been great my daughter loves to take photos in front of them.

Our only mistake what is that the straw that we use to cover at the 1st year must have had weed seed and we didn’t prep the area well enough so I had to do a lot of weeding the summer of 21. First some variety of colors, this summer more yellows and oranges.

We love them all for so many reasons.

This is great at keeping squirrels away. The chickadees, jays, cardinals, and, woodpeckers love it. The only issue is that the sparrows love this stuff also. Now, if you like sparrows this stuff is dynamite.

However, unfortunately, once the sparrows start at the feeder they pretty much keep all the other birds away. The sparrows decimate the feeder in a single day. Before the sparrows found the feeder I could go a couple of days without having to refill.

The sparrows pretty much took care of that. This bird food is to keep the squirrels away and for that it is definitely 5 stars on my list. I can’t really fault the seed for attracting sparrows. I’m going to go with a small mesh tube bag without any way for the sparrows to perch and that should solve that problem.

Smaller/young squirrels had been squeezing between the bars of our squirrel-proof feeder so we bought this blend in hopes of deterring them. To be honest, the most we used was 50% of the Sizzle Heat to 50% of our regular blend, in order to save money.

Assuming half of what each squirrel consumed was this product, half is not enough, the squirrels were not deterred. We are reluctant to fill the bird feeder with only Sizzle Heat. So, if what we read is true, there shouldn’t be many more litters, so we’ll do what we always did in the past: stop getting aggravated and wait until the babies get too big to get inside the cage!.

The squirrels aren’t *completely* leaving our birdseed alone, but they don’t just hang out in the feeder all day like they used to. They eat a little bit, presumably get a stomach ache, then leave. 🙂 The birds still LOVE it.

It has lots of different types of seed and nuts, so we’re getting a nice variety of birds. We have lots of cardinals, finches, titmice, nuthatches, mourning doves, jays, and about a million chickadees pretty much all day every day.

Lesson my husband learned the hard way: Wear gloves when you put this stuff out, or you may never be able to safely touch your eyes again. Handle it as if you’re chopping jalapenos.

Birds love this seed. We tried other brands in the same feeder, but found the birds would try a sample and then not come back. They swarm the feeder for this brand. The weight of the package also makes it much easier to handle compared to other options.

If it had some kind of zip reclose top, it would have been ideal. Once it’s opened, you have to put it in some kind of container since you can’t reseal it. Only drawback for us. Birds are delighted with this product so we are too.

Excellent value! I compared online prices through (Amazon)and brick and mortar stores(Ace, Home Depot, Tractor Supply, etc. ). This is the highest quality, cleanest thistle seed at the BEST price. My wild goldfinches blow through a feed sock in 2 days…they LOVE it!.

This is pure thistle with no other seeds mixed in. The finches love it. I put it in my squirrel buster feeder and the small holes keep bigger birds off. When I purchase another brand of thistle it’s mixed in with larger seeds like sunflowers and it causes the holes to plug up.

I have just moved to a new home and was so discouraged about the deer cleaning out my bird feeders nightly! We have fields and woods around, so their presence can’t be helped, even with the bird feeders set close to the house! But I switched the seed to this “Sizzle & Heat” bird seed, and the deer have absolutely stopped raiding the feeders! It’s been over two weeks, and the seed levels remain the same overnight now.

Plus, the birds really do enjoy the seed and aren’t bothered by any “heat” that is added. Hooray! I’m so impressed and can honestly say that this birdseed allows me to keep feeding the birds, and even though a little more cost per bag, it beats losing money due to the deer emptying out the feeders.

I’m very pleased with the freshness of the coriander that I received. I use it in many recipes – most frequently a delicious butternut squash soup. The storage convenience of the flat packs is a plus as well.

One of the ways we have kept the blues away in this time of quarantine, has been our ability to FINALLY plant a true vegetable & herb garden. We have wanted to since moving to NH 5 years ago, however our jobs frequently take us “on the road,” away from home.

Not this year! We had the best time germinating the seeds & getting the starts into their beds. Our garden is just now starting to come to fruition. We tend it lovingly. It is meditative & calming. We are one week into our growing season and all of our True Leaf seeds have sprouted! The only reason for the kissing star is that we are just starting and the true test is moving the sprouts to the garden bead in 3-4 weeks.

I bought this because I was curious. Shake it up. The drink was thick and lovely. You can taste the warm spices and it has just the right amount of sweetness. I will buy some to keep in my fridge.

Sooooo good. I had the Cocoa Essentials flavor which also had 14g of protein and I LOVED it. This product is Vegan, tasty, full of good stuff, trustworthy and an all round good buy. The only things that keep this product from a 5/5 was the price and the fairly chalky texture.

Both minor things but keeps it from a true 5/5. WILL BUY AGAIN!.

Our finches approve of this Royal Wing nyjer, house finches and goldfinches mostly. Have seen siskins on the socks, as well. Even though we have lots of juncos, they don’t frequent the socks though I noticed once, that they were participating in the clean-up of a small spill on the ground.

Btw, we are located in the US Southwest, at a little over 6,000 ft. , in an open pinyon-juniper-oak habitat. So, if you haven’t already, get yourself a few finch socks and a sack of Nyjer seed (often sold as thistle seed) for refilling the socks.

Nyjer, from the African yellow daisy, Guizotia abyssinica, is nutritious (approx. 20% protein, 40% fat and 35% fiber) and is a finch fave. We have been enthusiastically filling four nyjer socks, seven years now, and have been exceptionally well rewarded with finch patronage.

Our local finches formed a CCF (Committee of Concerned Finches) that petitions for our involvement when the socks need attention. Not only are we on the finches’ social network radar but our sock and feeder areas have also made the officially sanctioned SWASH Snack Bar List (Southwest Association of Small Hawks).

If we notice that the socks are deserted, it usually means we have a hawk nearby, most likely a Sharp Shinned. As you can probably glean, we love our avian neighbors and except for the checkout line (curbside pickup since March) guilt pang that I’m squandering our children’s and grandchildren’s inheritance on birdseed, our whole feeder maintenance program has been a source of great satisfaction, not only for the enhanced home birding opportunities but also for the bonding exercise it provides my wife and I as we make the rounds refilling socks together and joking about the latest missives from the CCF.

I have been buying this seed in 50 pound bags for several years. The bag I purchased April 12, 2022 to start my feeder season has noticeably more sticks than previous purchases. This is the first time that the sticks are so prevalent that they clog the holes that separate the feeder sections.

Seed won’t flow easily between the chambers and need to unclogged repeatedly during each fill up. This is frustrating and wasteful of such an expensive bird seed. Tractor Supply should require better screening of the Nyjer seed prior to packaging especially for the cost.

The packaging process has changed and is letting more sticks into the final product. This needs to be an easy-pouring product for your customers. These birds are voracious this time of year and I have 50 pounds of frustration to pour out.

This is a really great value. Id recommend it, but that feature isn’t available here. For the price, the seed is perfect for our needs and this quantity /price meets the minimum purchase per order, to get free shipping.

If TSC had to charge me shipping on top of the purchase price, this deal wouldn’t work for us. The American Gold Finches, House Finches, Black-Headed Grosbeaks and Brown-Headed Cow Birds absolutely love this seed.

My use case is a bit of a mixed bag but I will explain anyway in case it is useful. I had a bit of slope in my Mid-Atlantic suburban yard which I wanted to plant with native pollinators. A seed mix seemed a thrifty way to do that.

I decided to buy the Northeast and Southeast native wildflower seed blends, since the Mid-Atlantic is in between those two regions so at least some species should thrive here. I followed the directions, mixing the two blends 50:50, spread the seed last spring, and waited to see what showed.

In the first season of use, the first thing I saw was a lot of Partridge Pea, which makes sense since it’s one of the few annuals in the mix. Bees really loved it. It was planted right next to a butterfly bush and the bees had no interest in the bush, just the Partridge Pea – just covered in bees all summer.

Really beautiful yellow flower show. During mid-summer, that’s about all I saw, so I thought that was the only thing that took. Not so! By late summer, the PP was starting to flag, so I pulled it out (very shallowly rooted, so was dead easy to do).

Underneath, there were a bunch of perennials taking root. Coreopsis and tons of scarlet sage (that one’s from the Southeast mix), as well as some Indian Blanket. I am excited to see how it looks next year when the perennials come into bloom and have a bigger show.

Overall, I think this blend is good value for money. You get a lot of seed and the annuals put out some early color while the perennials get established. It’s not a quick return on investment – it will probably need a few years to fill in and some reseeding to get the full mix to show off.

Perhaps if spread more thinly over a wider area? So, I do recommend, but expect to get a few species taking front and center and the others needing some more dedicated care to take hold.

First Summer (2021): I had PARTRIDGE PEAS. A wall-to-wall carpet of them. And one (1) Indian Blanket which died of loneliness. I think that having these annuals come up the first year was The Plan, so things seemed to be OK.

Second Summer (2022): The Partridge Peas have come back (because they made SO MANY seeds (see photo of happy Peas). Plus I have one (1) Wild Bergamot and one (1) Sweet Black Eyed Susan and a LOT of something that I can’t identify and doesn’t show any signs of making flowers.

This plant clearly came from the seeds, because it is very thick and is no where else in my yard, but I don’t know what it is. Maybe someone could help to ID this plant? Will it ever get flowers? It is about 5′ tall; I’ve included a photo of the clump and a closeup of the top of one.

Help, please. What are these things? If they eventually get some flowers, then I’ll go up to 3 stars on this mix. But my overall feeling is that you want a lush garden, buy individual plants in pots and plan it out for success.

My husband and I planted the seeds this year in May, after preparing the soil as the instructions say, and voila 2 weeks later we started seeing little plants sprouting everywhere ! Now I see my little wildflower mound covered with dense growth about a foot tall, dotted with yellow flowers that make me happy every time I look out my window.

We diligently watered the area for about 6 weeks. Now I am eagerly looking forward to seeing the perennial ones in the mix bloom next year too, hopefully. Thanks American meadows for making high-quality seeds !.
