20 Best Security Camera For Garage (2023 Updated)

Couldn’t turn the camera and mic off. You could “stop it from recording” but the mic and camera were always picking up sound and video. Only way to stop this was to disconnect the setup. I wasn’t comfortable with this and I was even less comfortable with ring after I saw the fiasco about “privileged higher ups” being able to watch and listen to your feed at their leisure.

I do not recommend this camera if you do not get unlimited data for you internet monthly. I don’t know if they fixed the security problem yet. Get a cctv security system that saves a backup to dropbox/cloud or something.

Very happy with the camera. I bought two and a Ring spotlight camera to cover the front, side and rear of my home following a recent burglary. Easy to install. Just removed old flood lights and wired in Ring devices.

All necessary fixings included. Camera has a useful hook to hang it from the backplate whilst wiring it in. Ring App easy to use and intuitive. Cameras can be linked up to activate all if one is triggered.

I selected different sounds for alerts from each camera so I know immediately which has been triggered. Also like the fact that alerts go to my Apple Watch with a thumbnail image. Handy, if I’ve silenced alerts on iPhone or iPad.

Being able to block out detection of specific areas is useful. My neighbour kept triggering one camera whenever he went into part of his garden near my house. I have reduced the sensitivity of detection to person only but the cameras are still triggered by large birds, flocks of birds and larger animals.

Boiler flue gases also trigger the cameras when they drift past, even though they are some distance away. My milkman must wear a cloak of invisibility because it never seems to pick him up on his early morning delivery! Image quality is good but reading a number plate beyond 10-15m from camera in daylight is difficult and at night reflection from the number plate can make them unreadable.

Siren is not very loud but enough to frighten off unwanted visitors if detected. Also, I would be able to set off sirens on all three cameras together for extra effect. Ability to speak to a visitor also handy.

Was able to thank my neighbour for putting out the bins while we were away!.

After a couple of recent break-ins in our neighborhood I bought two of these Ring wired cam lights to replace the basic motion detection lights previously installed. Installation was relatively easy with basic electrical knowledge, i.

e. ability to connect wires same as they powered the previous light fixture with power turned off. Optioning the sensitivity settings and defining the areas to be monitored were also easily done with the Ring app.

Wish I could have installed one of them lower above our side entry garage, but it needed to be up around 15’ where the old fixture was. As such it would be difficult to see someone’s face in the videos, but you still get a warning and video record of someone, or car, entering the surveillance zone.

Fortunately, I have two other battery operated Ring cameras at my front door and lower level back door that will show faces of anyone approaching. Ring app works well and I can see all four cameras on one screen and can click on any one of them for video history.

However, haven’t yet subscribed to the Ring Protect service since I’m still within the free 30 day trial period. My understanding is that $100 per year would cover all four of my cameras. I also have a whole house monitored security system.

After catching the lunatic I bought my house from trying to break onto my property the other day with a few of his friends while I (a small, young woman) worked from home alone I finally decided to cave and buy a few ring cameras to bring me some peace of mind.

After filing a police report and getting my heart rate under control, I began searching on best buy for home security products and purchased a few ring cameras to cover the full perimeter around my house.

I opted for free next day shipping on the floodlight cams, and paid a small fee ($10) for next day shipping on the ring doorbell. Within 3 hours of my purchase, best buy had delivered my two floodlight cameras and the doorbell arrived before 10am the next day.

All cameras were very easy to install, and come with plenty of different screws, anchors, and necessary tools to make setup easy. The camera provides a much better picture than I would have ever imagined.

Even at night when the floodlight is off there is still a very clear image available to view. While I’m still a bit unnerved from the experience, the ability to quickly open an app and see what is going on anywhere on my property has brought me a lot of comfort and peace of mind as I’m home alone throughout the day.

I don’t often have/take the time for reviews but I believe this deserves a few minutes of my time. This is the second Night owl system I have purchased. Over all, the systems work very well, however, remote viewing in the app can be a pain due to buffering and failure to load cameras.

This is likely due to slow internet speeds available on our end Although I do have some issues with my first system which has very fast internet. I installed this system in an aircraft hangar yesterday.

(8 Cameras) the first camera I installed was 32 feet in the air. I mistakenly dropped the camera from about 34 feet onto concrete floor after bouncing off of a beam. I was 100% sure it was destroyed.

I decided to go ahead with the set up and to my amazement, the camera survived that fall with NO visible damage AND connected and still worked perfectly! I have to admit this is a testament to the camera construction.

The setup for the second system was surprisingly simple as it automatically connected to the app already installed on my phone and walked me through from there. That in itself was a real relief. I had to contact tech support for my first system last week and they were quick and responsive.

Had my issue resolved in minutes. I have 5 large aircraft hangars and will likely purchase 3 more systems in the near future!.

Maybe 1080p but definitely NOT producing 4K resolution. The lens inside the camera might be 4K but what you see on your monitor/app/phone is definitely not 4K resolution. It’s easy enough to blame that on your WIFI connection but I have 4K going to and from my router to 3 different streaming devices and 3 times the distance from the router than what the camera was.

And even with all streaming devices off except the camera, it still doesn’t stream 4K. Bought two and returning them both. I really wanted to like these at this price point but so far I haven’t found an IP camera capable of streaming 4K.

I’m guessing it’s downgraded at the sever end. Going back to a hard wired system for now.

I received my system a couple weeks ago and got it installed. The cameras are nice, images are clear and crisp, and there are many things that can be configured with the system giving a lot of flexibility.

Out of the box my cameras were not pre-paired to the receiver, so nothing worked. The install guide and online videos didn’t help. I did an online chat with Support and they walked me through the pairing process.

The Support team was great and the pairing process was easy but it was frustrating that I had to go that step. My other ding on the system is that the configuration interface is very old school. At this point, I would have expected to be able to use a web browser on a laptop to configure the system.

I bought 8 of these and have opened and set up 2 so far. I have them facing out windows set up to view the 5 stairs leading up to and including the front door area and the other at the rear patio sliding door.

Very hit and miss as far as recording action. Here’s an example, the camera at the front will start recording when someone gets to the first stair and stop recording within 2 stairs climbed so it misses the crucial time when someone is closer to the door despite motion continuing during that entire time as they head toward the door.

Sometimes it will record a little longer but so far never during the entire time they come up the stairs and enter the house. In other words they would definitely miss the crucial time someone might be kicking your door in so you wouldn’t know if they just walked up and rang the doorbell and left or if they were the one that actually kicked your door in or stole your package.

Who knows?. However, if someone happens to be walking along the street, it will record for about 30 seconds to a minute yet most of that time there is no action or motion going on at all. It just makes no rhyme or reason concerning how long it records for so if you’re hoping to catch a burglar in action you better opt for something else.

If these would record the entire time there is motion in front of the camera no more than 3 to 10 feet away they’d be a great buy, especially if it recorded when they were close to the camera to get the best look at their face.

The other issue is that while listening to the recorded sound through your phone, it sounds like either you or the Mic on the camera are under water with garbled sound at best. I wouldn’t expect much with those little recorder/speakers but that’s how they sound.

If you want to see if your dog has chewed on your furniture these might work even though you might miss him actually doing it. I think these are mediocre at best.

I purchased this camera to watch my pets when I’m not at home. I already have Lorex outdoor cameras installed so I thought adding this Wi-Fi unit to my phone app was the best way to go. The camera arrived on time and was ok to add to my app.

I had a little trouble originally adding it to my app but discovered it was my input error. So I was deciding where to place this unit and as I was trying out different areas I discovered that it is magnetized! So I attached it to a pole lamp in the corner of my living room that gives me complete coverage of my entire area.

It is adjustable so I moved the view finder the way I want and it’s great. No one even notices the camera. The lamp is turned on with a foot switch so no one even reaches near the camera. The only thing that would make this fantastic for me is if it was black, then it would easily blend into the lamp’s exterior.

Great Product.

I had the ring. I liked it, the interface seems a little easier and my notifications went to the camera vs lorex to the app then to the camera the notification was for but that’s my only complaint. The appl is too easy to add cameras and the interface is simple enough.

Picture Quality is great. Day/night. Motion sensor is great. Night light is a solid feature although we have keyless entry and the talking feature is great. Granted I’m sure wifi internet speed is a supporting factor.

The indoor cameras are great quality I can use the intercom feature to check in and the motion sensor lets me spy on my cat which is funny in itself. Great value for the quality. Lorex is in my opinion a great option for home surveillance systems.

1st the good. The video quality is good, for the piece. Features on playback are nice okay. Havoing zone detection is very good. Now for the rest. Motion detection is way too sensitive even on the lowest settings! A moth flying 10ft away in the middle of the night will trigger a notification, and that is on the lowest setting.

My biggest issue is that my internet went down for 48 hours, and this thing stopped recording! Why? Local SD recording shouldn’t be affected by an internet outage, but it is. I tried to go back and view the footage, and it wasn’t there.

It was available before, and after the internet outage, but not during. that to me is a big flaw. If a thief, or troublemaker touch your internet before causing issues, you simply won’t have video of it on this device.

Crazy to me. This camera, is a little better than a live view outdoor “baby monitor”.

Purchased and installed camera for a client. Camera installation was on a detached garage approximately 50 feet from the owners router. Initially had issues connecting and remaining connected with the camera.

Associated this issue with the distance between the camera and the router. Installed a wifi repeater between the two and the issue was resolved. Client can see camera o his iPhone — during the day. At night, however he cannot connect to the camera.

Initially thought the camera was receiving light feedback from a strip of flashing near the roof. Adjusted the camera view but did no resolve the problem. Still working on this issue. Overall, the camera has a great picture with wonderful resolution.

I am a *HUGE* fan of Eufy security cameras! NO SUBSCRIPTION is needed with this brand – to see your own videos (as is required with most other video doorbells!) WHO WANTS TO KEEP PAYING FOR THAT?? Once I discovered this I went all in – and have several: 1) a wired doorbell camera 2) a battery operated back door bell camera (180 day battery) 3) a wired floodlight camera 4) 2 Eufy Cam 2Pro K cameras (365 day battery) 5) 2 Eufy Cam 2 cameras (365 day battery) 6) 1 Eufy 2C pro camera (only 180 day battery – attached a solar charger) These are wireless cameras with a 365 day battery life.

Since they are best mounted 8 to 10 feet high, the long battery life means you only have to get on a ladder once a year to take them down to recharge them. The picture quality is really clear. I mounted these in areas with some cover, eaves or overhangs to keep them directly out of some weather conditions.

I’ve had them up for more than a year for most of them and only added a few more to balance out the surveillance around my house. What is great is the ability to SEE and talk to people at your front door on your cell phone *wherever* you may be.

Once I realized that you can call up the front door to see who is there on Alexa, That is why I also (a year ago) bought Echo Show devices for everyone’s bedroom in the house so the entire family can respond if needed to anyone at the front or back door.

I’ve been so happy with these cameras that over the year I’ve also purchased several of the company’s “SMART SCALES” to give to friends as gifts. I’m also considering a door lock from this company. There is also a Facebook group of folks from all over who have purchased and love these cameras, and discuss new items from the company or go through troubleshooting issues and more.

My Eufy doorbell, plus this camera over the front door, together, has also helped me keep up with home deliveries, as I get instantly notified when someone comes to the door and can respond immediately.

Regarding specs: This is a 2K camera, and although it’s clear enough, I live in a more “city” environment. My front door is 25 feet from the sidewalk and my driveway is about 100 feet from the sidewalk.

The FLOODLIGHT camera has 1080P resolution and I can read a license plate at the END of the driveway with a 1080P resolution camera. If you have larger distances to record, this camera is the top choice for that greater distance.

I’ve had most of my cameras up for more than one year, and the battery life can last that long – 365 days. All of mine made it except one camera, which I was able to exchange to get one that did hold the charge.

However for the 180 battery items I own, I found that they lost more time and power in colder weather. For the 180 day battery doorbell, I had to charge it every month in cold weather. It’s not placed in a sunny area so I didn’t buy a solar charger for that one.

I don’t get many visitors who come to my back door. This doorbell I added to the overhead floodlight camera because it’s placement films people walking into my driveway at eye level. Everyone in my family exits and enters from the back door – so with that, this battery device gets a LOT of hits which is a further drain on the battery.

This is the only Eufy device I must regularly charge. All the others I charge, I only do it once per year so far. I did buy a solar charger for the Eufy 2C cam. (has only 180 day battery life) because it’s mounted in a south facing area with no trees or other blockages to the sun.

With the charger, the camera stays at 100% all the time.

This eufy 2 Pro 2K Indoor or Outdoor Camera has so many neat things I can list that I won’t finish today, I was so excited ordering this camera I did not read it did not come with the homebase, had to be bought separately.

My husband immediately looked around for one and he ordered it and had to wait for it a bit, always make sure to read all directions before attempting to use bew devices. I was very excited I wanted to jump the instructions and almost mounted the camera, it’s a bit heavy feels like good quality material that will withstand crazy weather.

I loved the idea to have an option for indoor or outdoor security camera but the features are what sold me, has a crying sensor that’s neat. When my kids are playing outdoors when dad is working outside, boys play rough I can be aware when the first aid kit is needed and be prepared with a crying child before hand.

And peace of mind that my backdoor is under security and keep an eye on the furry friends as well, I like that we can call out on him and he looks around for us. The app is very easy to install and register and start taking advantage of all the neat features and personalized settings you wish to have or for your personal needs.

Overall very happy on how it’s been working and what we are getting, the battery life looks great we did charge until the blue light went off says a total of 12 hours.

I purchased 2 of these cameras, 1 for the front door and one for the garage/driveway. Initially, they worked well, however, I’ve started to notice that they alert me to many things “falsely”. I’ve changed the Motion detection sensitivity and changed the detection type to “Human Only”.

Still receiving notifications when vehicles pass. Also, the activity zone uses a rectangle or square shape, so it doesn’t accurately include/exclude areas you want as “privacy zones”. You cannot add multiple zones, so there is no clear way to narrow down the private areas.

The images are really clear, which is great. However, when a face is detected, the camera doesn’t do a great job of displaying that face with the recording captured. This could be a result of the person just moving too quickly.

I haven’t tried testing standing and facing the camera for a long period to allow the camera to detect and record a face image. The camera is very easy to sync to the home base, so setup is rather quick.

I also added a small solar panel to each camera so I wouldn’t need to take them down to recharge. They appeared to hold a charge rather well before I added the solar panel. Not sure I would have gotten a full 365 days out of the battery without charging the camera.

Overall, I’d say the camera is average, mostly because of the limitations of the privacy zone and alerts. If this is not a concern, then this camera will work well for you.

Be very careful buying this security camera unit because its shortcomings can make it completely useless depending on your situation. Setup is simple and fast and the app is easy to navigate around and functional however that’s where the positives end.

I have a brick house with a steel internal frame and that seems to be a hill too many for this unit. After setup and installing the cameras well within their specified range and recommended positioning they constantly lose signal with the base station.

This wouldn’t be so bad if the re-establish connection function within the app worked. It doesn’t. which means you have to physically climb ladders, take the camera back to the base station and re-sync the camera.

This was happening multiple time day and night even with the cameras on the other side of a ceiling to floor window a couple of meters away from the base station. Repositioning both cameras and base station did absolutely nothing to fix connection issues and after 48 hours of up and down ladders I gave up.

This could be a great system with the addition of a signal booster or stronger base station but no fix has been forthcoming fron Eufy for this problem for at least the past two years. Their customer service and technical support is non-existant and the community section withinthe app is full of the same unresolveds issue dating back a couple of years.

I place absolutely no blame on the retailers, it’s soley Eufy’s fault for not working to resolve a long-standing and well documented problem with this system. Some people have the setup and have had no problems with it and the picture and sound quality is great I have to admit.

But on night one I had an intruder in my yard that the dogs alerted me to and all cameras had gone offline. This is a great concept however its unreliability makes it a liability. Keep your receipt, you may need it.

I have a camera with three lamp sockets for my covered patio. The camera works really well with the lamp sockets and the installation was really easy. Even when adding another lamp socket a week later, I just plugged in the new socket and it easily synced with the others.

The camera has done really well distinguishing and notifying me when it has detected a person or a pet. When receiving a notification on my Apple Watch it tells me “A person has been detected” or “A pet has been detected”.

It’s been really nice since having a dog door for my pets and them going in and out throughout the day. When they set off the motion detection I don’t have to worry or feel like I have to open the app because of the “Pet detection” notification.

I gave this product a four star because I feel there are some areas that could use improvement or added features. – I wish or hope in upcoming updates when my camera senses motion I could have only one lamp socket turn on and not all three lights.

It would be nice to have the option to have only certain lamp socket turn on when motion is triggered especially the light in front of the back door. – It would be nice to be able to control the lamp sockets individually.

For me, the sockets are being used in an entertaining space and it would be great if I could control which sockets I wanted on and which ones I wanted off individually. I’ve had my camera and lamp sockets installed for the past couple weeks this January and they have been great.

I live in Las Vegas, so we will see how the camera holds up in the heat this summer. The price is great, the installation was easy and the app is user friendly.

The things that add tarnish to a brand are usually the small ones, but they leave a visible stain. The cameras themselves do a very respectable job, but the software is useless. Select a detection zone to eliminate unwanted motion, such as a swaying plant, and the software behaves as if no zone was created.

Report hundreds of examples of “tree swaying” (which is most often the shadow of a tree swaying), and no improvement is detectable in the next update. Clearly, their AI is more artificial than intelligent.

Even lighting changes are recorded as motion, and I’ve submitted hundreds of examples of those, as well, to no effect. Add to that that Wyze doesn’t correlate its licensing database with its user IDs.

When I added two cameras, I connected them to Cam Plus using the multi-camera license I already pay for. Yet Wyze keeps reminding me that my new cameras’ Cam Plus trial will end soon, despite their being already assigned to Cam Plus licenses.

If the devil is in the details, Wyze isn’t going to heaven.

I purchased this to use in our garage to automatically turn on the light and also run the camera. I like this product but I do not love it. Lets start with the negatives: This will not turn on the lights unless it is almost pitch black in the garage.

So this doesn’t really work when its still a little light outside. When I use the App to turn on the garage light manually, it will turn off after a few minutes. Which is frustrating because I want the light to stay on for at least 10 minutes, but instead it switches off after like a minute.

Thats my biggest negative, aside from that it does what needs to do, turn on the lights when movement is detected in the garage. We have other lights I can manually turn on when I need them to stay on for a while.

I also really like the idea of having a few of these connected together to turn on a series of lights instead of just one. However for the price, I’m not made at it and it works well enough for my garage that I’m happy with it.

I wish you could also program this to have the lights come on at set times, then go to motion detection when the lights are off.

I have both V2 and V3 Wyze Cams and think they are very good, even excellent for the price paid. No complaints at all. However the last 2 Cam V3 I bought came with spotlights which have been very disappointing.

Both were difficult to set up but I managed to get both working on 2 of my Cam V3. However both stopped working after 2 to 3 weeks on different days. After reinstalling several times all I get is the light flashing on and off several times and then stays off permanently.

I have given up trying to get either one working again. As I am in New Zealand, it is not worth it to me to go to the expense of sending them back to the USA.

Don’t expect to use this for security it’s for entertainment use only. I’ve always had problems with it so I got a new wireless router capable of connecting to 150 devices. I also got new fiber internet service with speeds of up to 940 mbps.

At the camera I’m getting 490 mbps but still have problems keeps shutting down won’t detect people and have settings set to 100 I have cam plus and if it records it still quits recording after a minute or so.

Even with motion still in front of camera. And don’t even try Customer service it’s a big joke do this then jump through this hoop then that hoop and if you get to speak to someone they can never fix the problem they always blame it on problems with your side it’s never their fault.

I give this a 4. 5/5. It works for what it is – a rubberized window mount for the Wyze cam. It helps minimize the reflections of the white case of the camera but it doesn’t help with the infrared – that might be because of the window.

Some nice extras and features would be nice for the next iteration: an ability to angle the camera without increasing the reflections (what if you want to mount it high and aim low or vice versa?), a slimmer profile so I can still open my sliding window without having to remove the mount itself, and extra sticky tape so that if I do have to remove the mount, it doesn’t essentially turn it into a useless paperweight.

The myQ Smart Garage cam is a stylish, small, camera with simple yet handy mounting system – a strong magnet on the base makes camera placement easy! The things I like about this camera are unfortunately outweighed by some of the negatives.

Some of the pros are that the camera mounts super easily if you have a magnetic surface to stick it to, such as the bottom of your garage door opener, where a lot of the stock photos of this thing show it mounted.

The night vision / dark mode image capture is really good – even in my completely dark garage, I get clear images that even have some color left to them. The images also feature date and time stamped in the upper left corner, so if you had to submit to law enforcement it is a good bit of information to have on the video.

Unfortunately, the list of things I don’t care for on this camera gets quite long. The biggest gripe I have is that it’s yet another ecosystem you have to buy into if you want any kind of video storage or video clips to come to your mobile device.

You can get basic alerts without a video clip sent to you, but if you want the video clip or any kind of video storage you have to opt for a $30/year or $100/year (or $3/$10 per month) plan to do any kind of video storage or sharing.

The difference between the plans is the amount of video storage that you get – either 7 or 30 days. I realize we live in a subscription based world – everyone is battling it out for your recurring revenue.

If I’m buying into a video storage ecosystem, I’d rather choose an ecosystem that has more camera options for different types of applications (outdoor, solar, indoor, small, large, wired, wireless, etc.

) rather than pay the same price per month/year for a specialized camera. Note that they do give you the first 30 days of service free to try it out. The other downsides I experienced when using this camera are that the app frequently spins when trying to load the camera.

I have excellent Wi-Fi in my home, three enterprise grade access points feeding 3K square feet, with other Wi-Fi devices in the garage that work great. I’ve also seen a message in the iOS app that states “Error – something went wrong” with an OK button, or “Unexpected error” with a “Try again” button.

The overall UI for the camera is just OK. The last thing I will mention is that the most common place someone would likely mount this camera is magnetically to the bottom of their opener looking at the garage door.

It’s in a lot of the marketing pictures, the magnetic mount lends to that, as well as it’s just plain logical to want to mount it there. The drawback here is that the emergency/manual override pull cord for the garage door hangs down in the center of the view of the camera.

Around these parts, everyone has one of these override cords, it’s a common thing. If the garage door is open, this is going to be in the center of the video. One other bit of information – if you have a garage door opener that does not have the myQ functionality built in, you’ll likely want to use this with the myQ opener accessory.

Logically and for safety reasons the myQ add-on is strongly recommended to be mounted on the ceiling near the opener so that the audible warning and light are visible to anyone in the vicinity of the garage door when it closes.

Most homes have a duplex (2) outlet above the garage door – so you’d have your opener, the myQ hub/device, and now you’d need a third outlet for the power supply for the camera. You now have to add a multi outlet adapter to accommodate the third plug (Garage door opener, myQ hub, and camera).

Overall, if someone asked me about this I’d say take a pass at this time. Invest in a camera ecosystem that has more options and more maturity.

I like the camera design and performance. The setup took all of 3 minutes, the software loaded quickly, pairing w my iPhone was immediate. The lens provides a very wide angle and very good focus. The camera design and mounting bracket made it extremely easy to locate in just a few minutes.

Once mounted, the camera may be swiveled 360 degrees and up and down on its magnetic base to capture everything desired. The video events are stored via an inexpensive subscription ($2. 50/month via the 7 day video event storage plan).

The software makes it very easy to selectively look back on all events triggered by (adjustable sensitivity) motion. The software permits filters such alerts when door is opened, or when closed, or for night vision, or to accommodate upside down mount by flipping the image.

The camera works with Google Assistant, Ring, IFTTT, etc. My criticism was the inability to connect the camera/Smart Garage Control to my garage door openers, and thus be able to control my garage doors.

My home was built in 2005, and the garage door openers are made by ROMAC. I thought ROMAC would pair with the Chamberlain camera/Smart Garage Control (just as the built in garage door opener buttons built into my 2017 & 2020 Acura cars do), but I was wrong.

I can’t even receive alert notices (though the events are recorded). There are a limited number of garage door openers that synch and will integrate with the camera/smart controller and allow control of the garage doors.

There are a small number of manufacturers of garage door openers that will monitor, but still not allow control of the garage door openers ( for example, Marantec openers). This was a major disappointment.

In summary: An excellent video camera for the garage or elsewhere; however, the camera and the Smart garage controller only allow garage door control for a limited number of garage door opener manufacturers.

I have gone through a few camera systems to find a good match throughout my house. Unfortunately the Chamberlain myQ Smart Garage Camera isn’t a good match for my purposes. I happen to have a Chamberlain garage door opener with myQ functionality but it is an older model that requires an internet gateway component.

If you don’t have a myQ garage door opener, Chamberlain actually sells what I would characterize as a universal retrofit kit (MyQ-G0401) that works on all the major door openers manufactured after 1993 that have the safety sensors.

The setup of the myQ Smart Garage Camera was pretty easy. It needs to be in range of WiFi and you set it up via the myQ app on your mobile device through a Bluetooth connection. Adding the camera in the app went very smoothly.

If you’re just looking for basic functionality, you can just leave it like this. The myQ system allows you to link your garage door opener so that you have a button to open/close your garage door while in live view mode.

For that, you need to either have the myQ functionality set up via a myQ opener, myQ opener with internet gateway or the universal retrofit kit mentioned above. The camera itself delivers nice crisp images, decent 2 way audio and provides two mounting options.

The stand has a snap on adapter to allow you to screw in the adapter and then snap the stand to the adapter if you want to secure the camera to a wall or ceiling. The magnetic mount lets you attach it to any magnet friendly surface.

Surprisingly, the underside of my garage door opener was cooperative to this. I previously thought was just plastic. With that in mind, Chamberlain includes a 10′ power cable, so it gives you greater flexibility to mount this camera.

With the myQ app configured for this camera and a few tweaks to the settings like the motion sensitivity and the custom notification messages, I was getting appropriate alerts for motion in the garage.

Where I was particularly disappointed with this system is where the myQ system requires a subscription in order to store videos. So without the subscription, you get alerts, but cannot view the motion that triggered the alert.

But you can jump into the app and get a live view. For video storage for a rolling 7 days, you need to pay $3 a month or for a rolling 30 days of storage, you need to pay $10 a month with discounts if you pay for an annual subscription.

I think this is really steep for 1 camera. In general, I like that this is a WiFi based camera, but having to pay for any amount of storage turns me off from this system. Having to use the myQ app to view the video is slightly off-putting since my other cameras are on a different system/app.

I like the video and audio quality and it’s nice to be able to open/close the garage door while viewing video. If myQ would just grant 3 days of free storage, I think it could garner a 5 star review.

Easier than having a wired system and they have options for different power sources, color and ease of setup. I had the ring doorbell so I was familiar with the app and the many different settings you can use, which made the setup for each camera easy as pie.

Unlike most systems I have used this was so easy and affordable for monthly services. You definitely get what you pay for these as far as performance is concerned as long as you have a reliable internet source you should not have any issues with it unless there is a power outage than remote access is stalled until it gets restored.

Other than that it doesn’t stop the camera from recording motion or detection of a person where they should or should not be and stores it in the cloud. Only issue I think they should come up with is if a natural disaster happens where internet is out for extended period of time to have some way of using GMRS service much like a cell phone does to access important videos.

If you plan on having multiple cameras definitely buy extra batteries. Video quality is decent but could be a little better along with the sound and mic pick up. I have had mine for now over two years and never had any real major issues with it.

I now have 8 cameras in total and over the time since my first camera they continue to add more features and updates that have never affected the performance of these in a negative way. Also customer service is outstanding whenever there is an issue.

I had wires run to the area of my house specifically for the video camera. The install wasn’t too bad, but found the basic ring instructions weren’t as easy for this as the doorbell. Would recommend a quick YouTube video if it’s your first time.

Overall got it installed in about an hour. Pros: – Does a great job covering a lot of area. I actually had to lower the detection area because it could cover so much. Also love the spotlight that comes on at night when motion is detected.

– Multiple ways to install the camera. I have it under the eave of my house which is at an angle, and was worried about mounting it to work properly. Ring gives you 3 different brackets and he no problem making it sit how I needed.

Cons: – Has just OKAY quality. It’s usually pretty clear, but can get grainy when zooming in. I have the Ring Doorbell Pro 2 and this is definitely lacking compared to it. – I struggled getting the security screw to actually hold it in place.

Also ended up needing to grab some bigger screws to secure it into the house siding, as the screws Ring provided were too small. These could be issues specially to me though, so not dinging Ring on that as much as just making it aware.

– Feel like it’s a little pricey, but if you’re wanting to hardware in without cables or deal with batteries, then I think this is the best route currently.

I’ve been using two of these cameras for about 6 months now with Ring’s Protect Plus plan. I should note that these are the first home security cameras I’ve ever owned so I have no other points of reference for anything I say below.

Build quality/hardware is good with one exception noted below. Easy to mount. Video quality doesn’t seem to be 1080p to me, though that could be more the fault of the video compression they use for their services; clear enough to see what you need to, though.

Night vision is good. Audio quality through the two-way microphone is acceptable. Lights, which can be set to turn on automatically when motion is detected, are very bright and are, in themselves, a significant mischief deterrent.

They handle the elements very well (I live near a coast so they’ve dealt with everything except snow). The app and its features are easy to use but the “Person Detection” algorithm they use to cut down on unnecessary motion event notifications (which significantly impact battery life) needs a lot of work (regularly detects my cat as a person even from a very, very close range).

Battery life is okay. If you configure everything as close to “default” levels as possible and don’t use the Live View too regularly, you’ll probably get around 10-12 days a charge. Luckily, the cameras have a second battery slot which, to me, is a must unless you get the solar panel attachments.

My single biggest complaint with these cameras is that, considering their mainly outdoor purpose, the wireless hardware in them seems very subpar. I have a very good home network that’s manually configured and optimized for speed and signal strength and yet, the two cameras that I have are about 15 feet away from my router and the Ring app very regularly says the signal of the cameras is too weak to use the Live View (they’ll still record motion events even when it says this but being able to access the feeds on-demand is a big part of the “peace of mind” factor for me and they’re just too inconsistent on that front).

I’ve tested the areas where these are installed to see if they’re just random dead zones for whatever reason and my phone and laptop grab the wi-fi signals consistently just fine. That, alone, brings them from 4 to 3 stars, in my book.
