After the storm, I’ve had the opportunity to cut lots of nice wood for later use as boards and other projects, this product seals very well, no end checking after several weeks as I would have expected! Just paint on as you would latex paint.
Provides 3-way protection for exterior wood. Penetrates deep into wood to protect against wood rot and mildew. Provides waterproofing protection so wood won’t warp, crack, shrink or split from moisture.
Also contains a UV absorber to retard the fading and drying that occurs with sunlight exposure. Can be applied over severely weathered, painted, or stained surfaces and is paintable and stainable with oil-based products.
AFM Safecoat Hard Seal is a multi-use, clear gloss sealer specially formulated to provide mar-resistance to both low and high-porosity surfaces. Because it forms a continuous membrane when applied properly, it effectively seals any pollution or toxic chemical off-gassing and improves indoor air quality.
Hard Seal can also be used on painted or stained woodwork or on unfinished wood products. Two to three coats are recommended. It will also bond to most vinyl products. If you want a more abrasion resistant sealer, try our AFM Polyureseal BP.
Hard Seal is very low-odor and safe, even for the chemically sensitive. It’s easy to apply with a brush or garden pump sprayer. NOTE This product is not to be used over oil-based polyurethanes or oil-based products.
NOTE Hard Seal is not recommended for hardwood floors. AFM Polyureseal BP is a more durable product for that particular job.
I bought this product to seal the stain on the inside of my curio cupboard. It worked great! I don’t have to worry about my collectibles smelling like stain or seal coating. I highly recommend this product.
Krylon Sealer Spray Paint provides a protective coating on any surface. The non-yellowing clear sealer dries in minutes and is for interior and exterior use. Use it on wood, metal, plastic, paper mache, glass, plastic, ceramic, paper, wicker, and more! Can contains 6 ounces and covers approximately 7 square feet.
Having failure will all spray paints this past year. I don’t believe it is the contents (the paint) but I think they are globally sourcing the nozzle. While it may have been built to specs requested, it falls short of the brand standard users have trusted.
Lots of blushing, drips, and ghosting. Sheens and finishes are blotchy. If you have old cans, clean your old nozzle and try it on the new versions. I am confident you will find it is indeed the nozzle.
~ Has anyone experienced a TRUE MATTE FINISH with this product?.
It works in-terms of sealing the product, but it leaves a white powdery residue. I should have checked reviews prior. When I inquired with the company they blamed a humid environment, but it wasn’t even close to humid when I used this so I can’t imagine what an actual humid environment would be like, and it turned white almost immediately.
After looking up reviews I realized this was a common complaint.
Used on painted PVC as a protective coating and to maintain gloss of paint. It dulled the surface and the paint bunched up to look like an antique finish in some areas. On to try Mod Podge Gloss Spray Sealer.
Unfortunately no company gives specifics. When I contacted Krylon to get recommendations they did not reply at all. So much for service.

New cedar deck built in 2020 in Zigzag Oregon. I went to Clackamas Miller Paint and bought Storm System type 2 sealer at $53ish a gallon. I have had nothing but problems with the sealer. The first application last about 6 months.
Looked failed and beat. In the summer, I cleaned and scrubbed the deck for 2nd application. FYI Oregon had record dry heat. Applied 2nd application. This time it only lasted about 2 months. Called Storm’s “customer service” for help, and got the run around.
Finally after weeks of waiting for Storm to call me back I proactively got ahold of Storms technical support. The support agent had an opposite answer for every question. He was very well rehearsed at playing both sides of the fence on why the sealer failed.
It tells me that this is not the first time this company or agent had someone calling for help because of the Storm System sealer had failed. Buyers consider yourself tipped off regard this product. Expensive and doesnt work.
The shipping was excellent. It was delivered very quickly. I couldn’t find a sprayer that I could spray the sealer with so it took a little longer to apply. We have had our first rain since application and it did not bead up like a usual sealer.
Time will tell. The color allows for the beauty of the wood to come thru beautifully.
Bought 2 cans. One was black walnut, the other was blonde. Stirred like crazy but won’t turn dark. Also neither can seals the wood. Using Thompson’s sealant, the rain bubbles on top of the wood. With this product, the rain is quickly absorbed.
A semitransparent stain and sealer in one. It is a unique blend of oils, quality resins and finely ground pigments thatpenetrate deeply to protect and preserve the wood from the elements. Effective on all types of wood on premium-grade lumbers, including western red cedar, douglas fir, cypress, spruce and redwoods.
I used Redwood to paint pine siding of my cabin. The product was very easy to apply with super stainer paint brush and clean after. Good coverage. Redwood color transformed the cabin beyond recognition while covering imperfections.
It simply looks beautiful. I got lots of complements from the neighbors. I’m a very happy customer.
This product appears to be fantastic! My deck has needed attention the last two summers, but Illinois weather has not cooperated. It’s been too rainy and the temperatures have been too high including the humidity levels.
Ready Seal defies those weather barriers! After stripping the previously used product from the deck and cleaning away the caustic residue, we waited two days for the deck to dry well. Application of Ready Seal went exceptionally well.
Amazingly no start-stop marks could be found. This product blended well with no extra work. We applied with both roller and brush. For such a large deck the product did an awesome job of coverage. After one coat the water repels so well – it’s like a new waxed car, the water just beads up on the wood.
This was the results after only six hours before another rain passed through the area! Looks like maintenance should be easy and a follow up application can be applied in temperatures of 35-90+ degrees.
I’m so glad I found this product. I will definitely be using it again!.

Our pergola was installed a few months ago and in need of being stained. Traditionally, stain is applied after the wood has been weathered for a year, but with this stain, it allows you to either apply to new wood or weathered wood.
I like that this is self-priming and that it has stain and sealant in one, cutting down on the workload. Since our pergola requires a ladder, I was also looking for a product that would not have to be applied every year or two.
This solid stain protects up to 5 years on decks and 15 years on fencing and siding, so I am optimistic. Due to temperatures and rain, I have been unable to prep and stain my pergola properly, but I did a test on one of the pieces of board remaining from our project.
Since our patio is in the sun nearly all day, the UV protection is a must and should help the stain last longer, thereby protecting the wood. The mildew resistant coating is also an added benefit I like since I live in the humid south and it can be easy for surfaces to mildew if not properly treated.
I applied one coat and two coats on my sample board. The one coat shows quite a bit more of the grain, whereas the required two coats provides a more solid, protected surface. I found it helpful to back brush to get the stain in the dents and crevices and to leave a wet edge while working.
I only did 1 board, but I used a 1″ brush and the wet edge is a must to encourage uniformity. Although I only did a small sample, I am satisfied with this solid stain. It provides even coverage and I can’t wait to get it applied to my pergola.
Olympic Exterior Wood Protector Water Base Semi Transparent Redwood Stain made our deck and fence look so professional, Our fence looked so old and needed something, and this was the ticket to bringing it back to life.
Olympic Wood Protector Semi-Transparent, COLOR: Redwood Semi-Transparent. Is a durable semi-transparent stain that provides a subtle natural redwood stain color and allows the natural wood grain and texture to show.
Exclusive Scuff Guarf stain formula gives the wood a tough finish and an enhanced level of protection. 100% acrylic latex wood stain formula is self-priming and cleans up easily with soap and water. It does take time putting this stain on but its worth it in the end.
I recommend Olympic Exterior Wood Protector it looks and smells like cedar. Everything ive used it on looks great. For all exterior wood. Bare wood,Finished wood , Old reclaimed wood , Stained or unfinished wood This stain is great for wooden decks and fencing and thats what I used it for.
I wanted to keep my fencing looking good and preserve the wood which was our deck. Olympic Exterior Wood Protector, protects for 3 years its mildew resistant, UV protection, waterproof sealer, you can also use a roller or a sprayer.
I got the Olympic Wood Protector Solid in Deep Redwood Solid to update my shed, which was several years overdue for some protective coating. I like that this is solid so it helps hide flaws better, but the color was not what I was expecting.
I know it is called deep redwood but the picture examples on the Olympic website show this to be closer to brown. I was shocked at the bright red color in the can so I started with a swatch test before going all in.
It applies just as bright but when I checked it the next day after it dried it did deepen, though it still has more red to it than what is shown on the website (see my attached pictures for swatches).
There is a color dot on the sticker label on the can, though I am not sure that it came from the color in my can as it too is more brown than what is in the can. So once I was over the color shock, I decided I was going to roll with it and have a pop of color in my yard for the shed.
I still give this 5 stars because I like that it is a solid stain and sealant in one with waterproofing protection and UV defense. It is nice that it can last up to 5 years for decks and 15 years for fences and siding so I won’t have to apply more for a long while.
My shed is exposed to plenty of sunlight so I haven’t had mildew issues, but it is nice that this has a mildew resistant coating for additional protection if needed.

EZ Wood Sealer 2018 is used to seal all types of raw wood prior to painting and varnishing. The sealer acts as a moisture barrier layer to prevent peeling and excessive absorption of vehicle from topside primers, paints, or varnishes.
It uniformly seals and satisfies the absorbency of all woods including teak and mahogany. After applying EZ Wood Sealer, lightly sand to a smooth surface before topside priming, varnishing, or painting.
EZ Wood Sealer can be used under all Pettit, Z-Spar, and Shipendec topside primers, varnishes and paint finishes.
I had to listen to my husband, who is a professional painter and wood finisher, complain for hours about how hard this material was to deal with. Extremely sticky, tacky, like molasses. Since I’ve never used it before, I don’t know if this is normal (we used it within prescribed conditions) but despite the nice finish, I won’t be buying it again.
Thompson’s WaterSeal Waterproofing Stain provides complete outdoor wood protection. It waterproofs long after the initial water beading is gone. One coat protects; 3 years on decks, 4 years on decks & fences.
For use on decks and fences, outdoor furniture and exterior wood.
This product seems to work as advertised, but I’m not sure it’s been down long enough to give a good review (applied 2 weeks ago). The stain applied very nicely and it was the color I expected. It added a little color but allowed the wood grain to come through.
It dries quickly – so you have to work with a purpose. When the first rain came – water puddled up and didn’t absorb into the wood. The can did arrive damaged. It didn’t leak but it was definitely dented and bowed.
AFM Safecoat EXT is an ultra-low VOC, crystal clear topical sealer that creates a durable, long-lasting finish on most wood and concrete surfaces. It also seals in off-gassing of hazardous chemicals.
It’s non-toxic and safe for everyone, even those with chemical sensitivities. Unlike oil-based polyurethanes which off-gas for weeks, this product has no odor once dried. AFM Safecoat EXT is a high solids, high build sealer comparable to conventional urethanes in performance, with exceptional durability and abrasion resistance—but without the harmful ingredients.
Use two coats on unfinished or stained wood, concrete or previously painted surfaces. If a satin finish is desired, one base coat of gloss is required. This product dries fast and completely clear, and it will not yellow.
Please read preparation instructions carefully. This product is not to be used over oil-based polyurethanes or oil-based products.
Natural Clear Transparent Waterproofing Wood Finish is ideal for decks, fences, siding, and outdoor furniture, where a clear or wood-toned finish is desired. Its penetrating formula with water clean-up provides durability.
We purchased 5 five-gallon buckets of this wood finish to treat 2 privacy fences that were recently pressure washed. After rolling for an afternoon, we decided to get an airless sprayer to complete the rest of the work.
This wood finish sprayed on well. It still looks pretty good after a few months. The neighbors behind the first fence we did compliment us on it and said they were planning on washing and staining their fence now also.
I wish this wood finish worked in one coat, rather than needed a follow-up coat so the fence doesn’t look blotchy. I would recommend using an airless sprayer with the product if you are putting on more than a gallon.
The only thing that disappointed me was that the buckets don’t have a built-in pop-out spout to aid in pouring. I have purchased 5-gallon paint buckets before from other manufacturers that have a little spout that pops out.
You need to buy an extra spout if you want to easily pour this product into a paint tray or sprayer bottle.
I am a (frustrated) amateur when it comes to staining wood. I have tried a half dozen different stains, and was not especially satisfied with any of them (not Behr products). However, THIS one is the only one to totally satisfy me with regards to ease of use, ease of clean-up, and beauty of finished product.
I have used the cedar naturaltone and the redwood. I used the stains to treat plain pine wood for raised garden beds and it worked perfectly. The beds look like more expensive wood at a fraction of the cost.
They are protected from water, sun damage, and mildew (OK, confession: mildew is not much of a problem here in Arizona!) I highly recommend this product, though I can’t comment on its durability yet as I’ve only used it for the last 2 months.

Low 250 VOC formula minimizes bothersome and harmful odors. Easy application with a roller brush or garden sprayer cleans up easily with mineral spirits see warnings on label for proper waste disposal.
A little pricey and really doesn’t cover as big an area as stated on the can. But I cant argue with the results, which were very good. I used a deck stripper (not a deck cleaner) and neutralizer to prep the deck.
Be sure to wipe off the excess oil. Otherwise the year-to-year build up is hard tp remove.
I was in need of the IPE Oil by the weekend so I could seal my porch. There was NONE available locally. I called on the manufacturer and they suggested I call DIY in Green Bay (over 3 hrs from where I live.
The lady I spoke with was very familiar with the product, and was able to still get it shipped on Thursday, UPS overnight for only $16. 95. And the price was very competitive. AWESOME!!!.
This is a great product recommended to me by the lumber company I purchased my IPE wood deck materials from. East application with lasting luster for beautiful hardwoods. Ordering through DIY is super helpful as this product is hard to find in brick n mortar stores.
White Tint Base Solid Color Waterproofing Stain and Sealer resists the growth of mildew to maintain a pristine appearance. This stain protects your exterior wood surfaces from harsh weather conditions.
It is great for use in large outdoor projects as the formula applies easily using a sprayer or roller.
We have a wood patio set from Ikea. Unfortunately the finish didn’t last and needed complete redo. Ikea was no longer selling the matching stain. This turned out good as it forced me to try this product.
After washing the set with some soapy bleach mixture I sanded all the top surfaces. Then applied the semi transparent stain and sealer in the custom mixed Sable color which is almost an exact match. The end result was amazing, looks better than new.
The key is making sure you don’t apply in direct sun as dries really fast. Aldo wet on wet if doing second coat. I don’t know how long it will last but should be much longer than the original finish.
Hello, I used Behr semi transparent stain on my deck after cleaning and prepping the surface. I applied 2 thin coats and it looked great. It was quite tacky for a long time as others have noted but this eventually resolved.
After the first winter the stain started to peel significantly and by the end of the first full summer it looked horrible. There is a portion of my deck that is covered and this has held up fine. I have now fully sanded the remaining surface in preparation of re-doing the project.
I am very reluctant to use this product again but need to do so to match the remaining covered deck surface. I would sure appreciate some advice and warranty coverage to repeat this process. Thanks so much.
I live in southern AZ, the sun makes any surface very hot. This stain begins to blister after 2 yrs. Then I have to sand the entire deck and benches before I can apply new coat. I use an air compressor to make sure the surface completely free of dust.
I use the recommended 2 coats, 24 hrs between coats. I apply this before our Monsoon season (starts early July) and it does really well repelling water. If you live in a part of the country where the temps are moderate, this stain may be perfect for you.
Olympic WaterGuard Transparent Wood Stain with Sealer offers convenience and value. A durable acrylic oil stain that provides protection and a slight hint of color that highlights the wood grain. Perfect for multiple wood surfaces including decks, fences and wood siding.
I have LOVED using this product! I do a lot of wood projects and it has come in handy for them! I love the fact that it goes on so easily. It does take a bit of time to dry completely, so if you are wanting to do a project, make sure you give yourself time to let it dry.
I also love that you get up to 350 square feet per gallon to use! This is awesome because big projects take up a lot of this. Another thing I love is that it can protect a deck for up to 4 years or a fence for up to 6 years! It also covers up old stain too when you apply it, which is nice.
But you should make sure to prepare the area you are wanting to stain, so that it is a smooth process. It can look a little off if you don’t. So make sure the surface is clean and dry. Then you just add the stain and let it dry! It is amazing what a world of difference this product makes to a project.
It makes it look so much nicer, and keeps it protected! I honestly love this product. I talk highly about it. I think everyone should give this a shot, especially if you have a nice deck or fence you want to keep protected for a long time! You will not regret it.
Pros: Quality, Durability, Ease of Use Cons: Haven’t found any yet.
Sealer is an important part of protecting your wood fence from the elements. A good quality sealer will help to repel water, protect from UV damage and prevent dirt and grime from building up. Sealer will also help to prolong the life of your fence by protecting it from the elements.
