20 Best Sealant For Chalk Paint (2023 Updated)

Bought this to use on my 1981 Datsun/Nissan 280ZX sports car as I’m restoring the engine bay and needed to replace all the seam sealant. This seam sealer is easy to use and spread. Wearing nitrile gloves I just used my finger to smear and spread the sealant around the seams.

If you don’t think you will use an entire tube at once, I highly recommend buying a box of replacement nozzles. They are available here on Home Essentials Direct, though you may have to search a bit.

I picked this product up because I couldn’t get a dewaxed shellac sealer. I paint furniture using acrylic paint and found that no sealer/primer caused the paint to absorb unevenly and splotch in places.

i was also painting knotty pine boards and found tannin bleed through the light colores paint I used. The alkyd oil nicely seals the pine from bleed and I like the silken finish of this oil paint once sanded.

I use a 320 grit garnet paper and with the spray version of this paint, the sound goes from scratchy to velvety in a few short strokes. The acrylic paint l use lays evenly on this primer. I only sand irregularities on the first coat or two, but once I sand the third coat, the acrylic finish is smoother than when I don’t use it.

I plan to use it as a base coat under most of my. projects going forward.

Wow, after 5 tries I finally was able to score some Cover stain!!!! YES!!!! The order was a day late, but I’m thrilled to have gotten it. One can was dropped I believe and the top/lid was badly dented.

So, be careful transporting paint or it will get all over everything. Cover Stain is a great product, used it for over 30 years and it is the real deal for any interior/exterior applications.

I needed to cover nicotine smell and hazards infused by previous tenants’ smoking. It sure seems to cover the hazards, as well as hides concentrated wall colors nicely. But the smell is overpowering!! It is advisable to prime a dwelling while empty.

The smell is similar to the old oil-based paints (lacquer?). Paint thinner should be by your side at all times, as well, to wipe any drops quickly, to wash any smudge off your body, and keep your brushes from drying up.

The primer dries up to a nice off-white matte finish. On colored surfaces, a bit of color is showing through after one layer of primer. It definitely needs a latex paint over. Nicely prepares the surface, though!.

Not sure if it was bc the cold air outside or if it needs constant shaking but some coats were not clear they were foggy white. Had to remove manually and retry.

This was my first time purchase and first time use of said product. I am impressed. I coated a wood printer’s tray with powdered lime for an aged look. The lime when dry becomes very abrasive. I sanded it lightly.

I cleaned the dust. I then applied a coat of the mod podge. It was quite obvious that the first coat sealed the entire piece beautifully. I added the second coat for an extra smooth finish and it worked.

This has a matte finish, but because of the coloring of the lime and the sealer, there is a bit of a soft sheen and it just adds to the beauty of the piece. Very satisfied.

I use this after polishing on my 02 Trans Am Firehawk SLP and the results are truly amazing. Ive tried other sealans liquids, sprays but i always come back to Wolfgang. It goes on incredibly easy and even easier to remove.

It leaves the paint incredibly smooth and the finish is mirror like. I strongly recommend after washing using a clay bar then compound if neccessary then polish and use the wolfgang as the topper.

This is the best auto polish that I have used and I have used lots of different products over the years. This polish goes on easily and comes off easily and leaves my morpho blue pearl Honda looking like a sheet of glass! You don’t have to use that much and it can be used on the plastic trim on the vehicle as well, no white residue!.

Very easy to apply, smooth and glossy finish. Water based, so will see how long it will last before next application.

This matte Mod Podge for paper is a great water-based sealer for my Quilling art. It holds securely and washes clean from your brushes with warm water and soap. The reason I gave it four stars is because it left a cream colored shade on my pure white quilled paper snowflakes.

However, it does not alter the color on any of my other colored paper strips. I will continue to use this reliable product for all of my Quilling needs with the exception of pure white paper strips.

I used this Super Gloss Mod Podge to coat a diamond art picture. The application was easy, but very thick. It took a bit of time to completely cover the image, but didn’t have a strong scent like some products, and, when dry, was completely clear and shiny.

I don’t think I lost any of the sparkle of the diamonds. I highly recommend this product for this specific purpose.

I purchased product about a year ago for a DIY cermaic mug project (using just regular freehand Sharpies designs) for the holidays & I was very skeptical it’d actually work for dishwasher but to my surprise (after the month long cure) my designs were still visible (& when you wash by hand its the same– I did about 10-15 coats for each mug but you have to let it dry 24 hours in between each application) It does have a textured feel (which I kind of like for certain projects) it’s not as “high gloss” as you’d think but more like “opaque”, “milky”, or “matte finish” but it does dry clear.

Now if you clean your brush (or use multiple brushes) for each application it’ll help. I’ve not done any transfers or decoupage & I’ve yet use my Oil paint Sharpies so to be continued. but after more than 6 months the designs are still visible & haven’t faded.

I could not find a date on tube of Elmer’s Pro Bond Wood Filler tube. I was disappointed because as I squeezed the tube the fill would not come out. I cut wider and at an angle and still no luck. When the tube side gave way, I used what I could to fill my small holes.

What a mess. I do not recommend this product. I asked my man to get me the stuff in a tin but he did not listen to me and got me Elmer’s ProBond instead.

I had hoped that Elmers Probond Tinted Wood Filler would squeeze out of the tube like thick toothpaste and be easy to work with. My experience was a little different. The filler was very hard to squeeze out, even after enlarging the hole in the nozzle.

The wood filler was drier than I expected, giving less than a minute of working time. Maybe okay for small nail holes, (except I had to enlarge the nozzle) but difficult for larger dents. I will be pleasantly surprised if it isn’t dried up the next time I go to use it.

Great for filling nail divets in pre primed trim. Water clean up. Need 2 applications for deeper holes, no paint touch up needed over filled holes. An Ace associate sold me a tub of brown wood filler and said to use a small brush w/white primer to cover the brown filler.

Seriously? He didn’t know this product existed. Google did.

The color is kind of half way between brick red and mauve. The color looks a lot lighter from any angle other then straight on. It looks pastel, but if you are looking at it straight on then you get the nice pigmentation.

I found that it was easy to work with. My mom and I played a lot with this paint and some others. I used it with a different chalk matte finish but also some indoor / outdoor acrylic paint and it worked well with both.

I did some blending where you could hardly tell where one paint stopped and another started and my mom painted a large tv tray with one color and then the other and once it dried it almost looked like a wood grain.

The one thing I want to warn you about is the smell, once you stir it up, it smells like moldy wood. It was disgusting for a little while, but I adapted to it quickly and couldn’t notice after I got started, but my mom walked through the room again a few hours after we finished and she said she could still smell it.

I wish this product was available after I had stripped my bathroom wall several years ago and utilized a basic sheet rock primer. Guess what some of the areas started peeling after 8 years , guess the adhesive from the wall paper glue was activated from the bath shower steam.

Its like thin glue to hold torn drywall facing paper, dried wallcovering adhesive. I think if you have nasty looking wall paper and its very very secured to the wall and want a quick fix you “MAY” be able to apply this product over to help seal and hold the wall paper seams together.

Somebody on YouTube may have done it already. Product is tint able per rep. Product has a “tack able feel ” like it ready to adhere the next coat.

I used this on exterior pvc trim. At first I wasn’t sure about the product because it is thin but it has excellent coverage. Dries in short time and clean up is so easy. Paint lays down so smooth over this.

My goto for a lot of jobs from now on.

I use it in my office on the floor. Because my floor was damaged and I couldn’t afford to have the floors done. I primed the floor and let it set overnight, then I painted my floor a beautiful medium gray color.

When that dried I took a stencil and stenciled the design on my floor so it looked like a rug was on the floor. Then I put 3 coats of a clear coat. That was 5 years ago and it still looks like it di when I first painted it.

This chalk paint is sort of a joke. I think walmart switched to this brand from Waverly and I dont know why? I had to use a minimum 3 coats of this to get even coverage, and even then, there were spots that I had to go back over.

When compared to other craft chalk paints, this one is very watery and if you’re looking for anything close to full coverage, the process will be time consuming. I gave it 2 stars because once everything was said and done, the finished products looks good and it’s non-toxic.

But I’m returning the bottles I didn’t use and will not be purchasing this brand in the future.

I purchased this in 5g container to 1) cover nicotine and tar on a heavily smoked in home. On beginning project realized wallpaper had to come down due to damage, unfortunately, 40 year old wallpaper does not remove from bare drywall easily and paper was covering a lot of damage, so also used it to prime the drywall, then skim coats of mud/joint compound (mud would not have reacted well with any wall paper glue that was remaining on the walls).

Drop ceilings are receiving a coat of primer to cover the damage/stains for at least short term while we decide what to do about the ceilings. This works well on plaster walls, drywall, wallpaper, paneling (I put joint compound over paneling first to hide the “grooves” and make a smooth surface), metal drop ceiling tracks and the foam/fiberboard drop ceilings.

Cons: Pouring oil based primer from a small spout on a 5 gallon container was very cumbersome – would probably pay more and get gallons next time, cleanup (oil based so definitely not simple – but did not expect it to be) and the smell!.

Had a tenant renting my 50 year old, 5 bedroom house and they had 3 large dogs plus 2 cats that they apparently kept indoors and it appeared that they never let their pets out to relieve themselves. nor did they ever clean up the mess the pets made.

I tried everything from vinegar, baking soda, industrial cleaners and more but nothing worked to get rid of the awful pet odors. I almost gave up until I came across articles on the internet regarding the success people were having using Kilz original oil based primer to basically encapsulate the problem.

People, IT WORKS! I used a 3/8″ nap paint roller and basically paired the wood sub floor. It went on smooth & fast and dry time was less than 45 minutes. I only applied one generous coat and when I came back the next day, the place had the new house smell.

and still does 2 weeks later. What a fantastic and amazing product! I don’t know who to thank but am grateful I read some of the comments & reviews online otherwise I never would’ve known. Of course obvious thanks to Kilz for such an amazing product as well!.

We bought our first house which is a 1976 fixer upper and the interior had crazy colors in each room but worse than that was the mixed smell of pet urine and smoke. We cleaned what we could but it only helped so much.

We used kilz original and bc it was one of the few primers that said it helped with odor as well as color block. The product is oil based whi h makes it a bit more difficult to use and a bit strong of a smell but wow! It sealed everything and now it smells like a new house and looks like one too! We painted one room without kilz and we regretted it when we could start to smell the smoke through it.

Another time I went to buy this product the store was out of stock and I got a different brand and it was so much worse in quality and leveling. I returned it and drove to a further store to buy kilz.

Wax needs to be applied with a wax brush. A cloth does not give a satisfactory even coverage. Having used the chalk paint and followed the instructions carefully I found it a long drawn out process. In retrospect I would have used traditional paint for my project.

Chalk paint and wax I feel is more suitable for a distressed look which was not what I was after in this case.

Have only used it on a small area for now but it seems to do the job. I will probably use some gloves next time to move the item after waxing as it is very greasy of course. It probably needs a little bit of time to settle so best not to touch it after wiping it with the cloth.

Best company for doing up furniture supplies. Had an old faux leather foot stool and decided to give it some life. I bought both chalk paint and chalk paint wax from this amazing small business and it came out beautifully! I would recommend buying the wax brushes from here too, I made the silly mistake of not doing it and it took a lot longer!.
