20 Best Screws For License Plate (2023 Updated)

Added these to my 57 vette. Tie in well with the rear styling of my car. Also blends with many older cars. These have been around forever so you cant go wrong

I had purchased a set of these earlier from a auto parts store that were chrome plastic. They only lasted a year. These chrome steel bullets are a lot better quality and cost less. I am very pleased with these.

I was actually surprised that I could get an item from Advance Auto Parts that could get me out of a jam. It was Sunday and my license plate had become dislodged because the dealer that sold me the car had jerry-rigged the attachment.

I immediately ordered the inexpensive kit online and hurried over to the store to pick it up. It looked just like what I needed, but when I tried to install the plastic inserts, they just wouldn’t grab in the square hole in the car like they were supposed to.

Examining the issue, It looked to me like the groove around the 4 sides of the plastic insert was not wide enough and so it would grab on the lip that was around the end of the square hole in the car.

Since I only had like 4 dollars invested in the kit, and it was Sunday, I decided to do a little jerry-rigging of my own. Taking a hack saw. (yes I said hack saw) I tried widening the grooves on each side of the plastic insert and to my surprise, it worked like a champ.

The only complication was the tamper-resistant screws that come in the kit. If the item worked on the first try, they are great, but when you have to keep fitting and test fitting, it gets to be a real pain to repeatedly be backing out screws that aren’t intended to be back-outable.

(I wouldn’t use that word in a game of Scrabble) I was very appreciative of the fact that I did have a part that would get me out of a jam. If it had worked well right out of the package, it would have taken me about a minute and a half to effect the repair.

As it was it took me an hour and a half to wrestle with this item to make it work. I only took the time to write this lengthy review of an inexpensive part in the hope that it might be valuable information for somebody that has a loose license plate on a Sunday, with a local Advance Auto Parts store, AND a hacksaw.

Do not despair. There is solution.

I needed to attach a license plate to my boat trailer and thought this would fit the bill. Unfortunately there is no square hole to put the plastice square into. I ended up using it as a square “nut” for the screw to go into.

When I look at the screw I realize if I ever need to take the plate off “I’m screwed”. I think I’ll be able to get it out in my case with some pliers but if someone uses this on a car with a blind hole that you can’t reach behind you’ll be in worse trouble.

I’m not sure who the “genius” is that thought security screws was the way to go.

My plates were stolen this morning so I went out and got these to prevent myself from being robbed as easily. Either I’m an absolute idiot or everyone else received instructions that I didn’t. I asked salespeople at the store I bought them from and looked online and no one could tell me how to install these.

I have no clue what to do with the nuts, do they go in front of or behind the plate? There are no instructions online and I’m going to have to exchange these for something I can actually install.

I like the style of the screws & the tool was included in the kit… The added plus is it doesn’t rust out to easy… I bought the silver to match my decorative notary plate cover…

I liked the fact that it made fastening my plate down a little easier and was useful in what I needed it for.

I figured these would be pretty universal and they were. It’s one of those things that you don’t realize or think about until you need them. Mines were pretty rusted, so changing them out was needed and I had no issues doing so.

I was able to screw in most of it with my hands until it was time to really tighten them up, then a regular size screwdriver or even a butter knife would get the job done. They went in pretty smoothly.

The last time I had to change my license plate I said to my grandson, “you would think they could come up with a screw that doesn’t rust to put these license plates on with” and only a few months later I find out there are some.

These are definitely worth trying. The pack I had came with four screws and I needed six so check to be sure how many you need when you make your purchase. I thought the screws could have been a little shorter in length as I had to screw them through the plastic that held the screw but it turned out fine.

Everything about these are great, except the shipping method. Four screws per bag, and they rub against eachother scratching and maring the paint. Small gripe from someone with OCD. Would have loved for them to be completely black.

These fasters were just what we needed. Our original screws were extremely rusted so when we moved to GA and it was time to change our license plate, the screws broke right in half, leaving most of it stuck.

Eventually we weren’t able to remove them so we created new holes and used these licence plate fasteners. They are sturdy, easy to screw and the black color blends in great with my black car. Only time will tell if these rust over.

Good quality parts. Super friendly knowledgeable staff. Prices are down to earth reasonable. Like being able to rent tools needed without having to buy them. Grateful can go there and get problem lights and basic needs checked with computer for free.

These are all the same except some are very cheaply made. This one however was better than the competitors brand because the plastic pieces didn’t break when pushed into the bumper so you could screw the plate on.

I didn’t think a little thing like the right screw would make a difference. until it got stuck. I tried WD-40 and everything to get this off. Get the kind that have a hex head – do not buy these. Horrible.

Exactly what I needed. My screw eyes were literally wider than normal and I was scared this would not work. It worked perfectly and my plates sat pretty well. Got the job done

After my husband sending me in to get number plate screws, I was like okay sure, even though I’m a woman I knew they did yellow and white ones, got in there and relises they did alot more I wad so confused.

Didn’t know if the screws were the same size or not! So I felt I would get the yellow ones as they was courful and then did what anyone would do I closed my eyes and picked lol Turns out my lucky stars what right I got the ones he needed.

These screws are just the job to replace existing ones that have perished with the weather.
