20 Best Screen For Macbook Pro (2023 Updated)

I wish other companies could compete and that Apple would bring some of the XDR’s features to other products like the iMac. Auto rotate is amazing when working in something like Pages, as it gives you so much more room.

The retina clarity at this size is game changing for me. I just wish you could buy a non hyper-bright xdr variant for less. Also, the stand should actually come to the imacs and/or get a vesa adapter such that you can use its stand with other vesa products.

The m1 imacs have a beautiful stand, that is not at all ergonomic (too short). Were it possible, I’d plop a vesa m1 imac on a pro stand for the height. There are stands that have vesa capability out there, they just look like trash.

The pro display is too expensive, but that’s because there isn’t enough competition out there. No other company seems to think retina displays are important, making 4k panels that are too large and prioritize high refresh rates.

Essentially, the market is divided between gamers and bog-standard office workers, neither of which seem to understand or care about resolution. If you work in graphics of practically any kind, this monitor will turn you into Smeagol in less than five minutes as there is simply nothing like it out there (the dell 8k is higher resolution and ppi, but about the same price and housed in garbage plastic).

Oh, don’t buy the nano texture. Look up ebay resale figures for both and you’ll see a trend. For anyone who stares at a screen all day, they are the work truck or shoes – the thing that can make a huge difference in comfort and utility, but is priced that way.

I still have my thunderbolt displays this many years on, only have passed them down to others in the household. Point being – this is a ten year+ monitor.

I did months and months of research between this monitor, some Ben Q’s, Eizo monitors, Asus pro displays, build quality of those products and on and on. Between buttons on monitors, pixles per inch, nit brighness, customer reviews, cable management, icc profile customizations, etc.

Hours and hours of time. In the end I decided to buy this monitor because I wanted something that could give me the best of both worlds between my photography hobby, which I take a little more serious than just a hobby, and being able to change my screen calibrations between photography and my leisure web browsing and other online needs of mine.

Also ease of connectivity and use. This monitor allows for that. Other high end photography monitors have a much lower output brightness (which is obvious to the pro photographer, don’t have to go into that) and are usually meant for just photo editing or video editing with matte finishes.

Basically just a work monitor. There are no buttons on this monitor, which I love! Turns on and off according to my 2019 MacBook Pro computer usage that I have connected to only one thunder bolt cable it came with.

I also use a wireless apple keyboard and wireless apple trackpad to go along with it so that my lap top stays on its stand closed! So the two best things I love about this monitor is its sharpness and it’s colors are beautiful to look at! Working on this monitor is a joy! Editing has become much more fun and enjoyable again.

My photos have a much more better edit than ever before and that’s partly because I was editing only on my mac book pro before. Never the less, this is the nicest monitor I have ever used. It’s so nice just to look at which you’ll be doing a lot of if you’re serious about getting this.

The size is perfect, not too small and not to big. Brightness is adjustable to peaks that you wouldn’t necessarily use, but good to have. I haven’t yet tried any video editing on this since I only use it for photography so I have nothing to report on its dynamic range capabilities at this point so far.

There is one big draw back to this monitor that I don’t like, but is definitely not a deal breaker. It’s the vignetting! If you work as a pro photographer and absolutely need the picture corner to corner perfect while looking at this monitor from all angles, then this monitor is not for you, sorry.

I use Lightroom classic and photo shop, so my photos are always in the middle of the monitor and the vignette is masked by my control panels, so I don’t see the vignette. But while web browsing, I definitely see it around my peripheral.

If you move your head slightly to the corners, then the vignette goes away. It doesn’t bother me enough to not like this monitor or take away a star. My photos are still coming out great. One thing I did notice is the luminance in the oranges pulsating while shifting between the control panel and picture pallet.

This has happened a few times and caught it while editing trying to adjust the brightness. It was oranger one second and lighter the next second and changing constantly. I shrunk the control panel and brought it back out again and it went away.

So that might be a Lightroom cc glitch, I’m not sure. I had to do some customizing, especially the brightness of the monitor. The photography mode that it comes with as a pre calibrated setting is still way to bright.

I had to bring it down to 65 luminance. I did some quick prints at home and photos were coming out too dark at first but the colors came out great. It comes with a list of pre calibrated display settings.

Other high end monitors don’t have the range of calibrations that is monitor can give you although ICC profiles with a color monkey or X-Rite calibrations are not possible at this point, maybe at a future apple update we will be able to.

I have not sent any photos to the lab yet to compare a much better comparison of monitor colors to professional print but will update when I do. According to some reviews the colors are perfect. So another great thing about this monitor is, aside from the power cable, I only need one thunder bolt cable connected to my MacBook Pro for this to work and it’s also always charging my lap top with a trickle like charging that doesn’t diminish my battery life which apple has created in these new laptops.

We live in 2020 and so the compatibility and simpleness is what was another deal winner with this purchase. I didn’t want to have to buy a dock station and some more usb connections and adding my lap top charger etc etc that I would have had to deal with by going with another make and brand.

If you can afford it or make payments on this for a year, go for it. You will not be disappointed! Apple Mac book pros 2018 and newer will give you the 6k display. Older versions of apple will decrease the display settings.

If you want HDR content, then upgrade your graphics card! Oh and the monitor itself is beautiful as well. The bezels are approximately a quarter inch big. And the aluminum and the cheese grater is even nice to look at from the back lol.

It definitely says quality all around! I have this connected with the essential apple vesa mount adapter and using it on a Ergotron 45-295-026 LX Desk Mount LCD Arm. It’s perfect!.

The Apple Pro Display XDR is almost certainly overkill for my line of work (web design), but I needed a monitor and everything else I considered had some dealbreaker; a wobbly stand, cheap plastic build, or spotty compatibility with Mac OS.

Since I use this every day, all day, it was much easier to justify the price, especially since it has zero of the problems I found with other monitors. I do wish I had the opportunity to view this model next to nano-textured glass version before purchasing; it’s an extra $1K but might have been worth it over the life of the monitor.

My only real gripe is that I feel Apple needs a monitor in their line up that’s geared more toward the consumer. Same attention to design and build quality, but maybe not as crazy high specs (and price tag).

A iMac (which happens to come with a 27″ 5K display) is 1/3 the price of this monitor plus stand – it’s hard to imagine they couldn’t make a great monitor based off that panel with a lesser stand that doesn’t rotate.

I’m sure there are a ton of Mac Mini and MacBook owners out there who would love to compliment their computer with an Apple monitor, and I doubt a more mid-range 5K monitor would cannibalize the already small market for this beast.

If you’re in the market for a monitor, and happen to stare at your screen every day for a living, then this is certainly worth considering. Just be sure it’s compatible with the computer you plan on plugging into it.

It’s Thunderbolt 3 only (compatibility here https://www. apple. com/pro-display-xdr/specs/). I did get my old 12″ MacBook to work on it (mainly out of curiosity) but if I remember correctly it wouldn’t be getting 6K resolution.

True to its name, this monitor is sharp – the image is crisp and clear, colors are accurate, and input lag is acceptable, meaning it checks all the boxes for being a usable monitor. It was recognized quickly and easily via Thunderbolt, both on a Dell and non-Dell laptop, and everything that I’ve plugged into it has been recognized (although to get the LAN connection to work, it did require a relatively recent Windows update).

The picture-in-picture capability, though I haven’t had much call to use it, is also fairly unique, and adds versatility to the monitor. The only thing holding this monitor back is port placement. Although there are certainly enough USB-A and C ports for most needs.

when sitting in front of and actually using the monitor, only one of each is easily accessible – and they still have to be found by touch, being underneath it. If more ports are required, it means going behind the monitor, or having to lift and turn it, to access the others.

If you use them for mouse/keyboard/webcam, it isn’t much of an issue, but if you need them for anything else, it is rather inconvenient, and somewhat against the grain of a hub. Even if it means sacrificing the minimalist bezel, I would have rather had a few type A or C ports available at the front, or even the sides of the monitor.

Attaching a small USB hub to the bottom port would alleviate the problem of inaccessibility, but anything that adds additional ports is specifically discouraged in the user manual (likely because of TB3 bandwidth limitations).

Short extenders would also work, but that would only add to the clutter a setup like this is intended to minimize. A good monitor, and a decent hub, all things considered, but perhaps not necessarily as convenient as a separate monitor and dock.

The presence of a KVM switch and 90-watt USB-C charging got me to look at this monitor and the great colors and impressive black contrast (for an IPS monitor) sold me on it. With my current work from home situation I needed a monitor solution that could run and charge my Dell work laptop while allowing me to effectively use my M1 Mac mini without much effort (i.

e. unplugging the work laptop and keyboard to use my personal computer). Dell’s KVM solution and 90-watt power passthrough works perfectly in addressing these needs. The colors this monitor produces seem great to me.

While having a matt display finish vs glossy took this 10 year iMAC user some time to get used to, I think the overall picture quality is very good. Colors appear accurate and the black/contrast levels seem better than other IPS displays I considered.

While there is IPS glow at times when watching a video during a mostly black scene in a completely dark room (e. g. movie credits), it is nowhere to be found when using just a small desk light during late night tasks.

The unit I received does have very faint instances of light bleed at the very bottom in three (3) locations, again only noticeable when watching video in a completely dark room. Ports, having as decent amount of USB-C ports is a great feature even though just one more USB – C port would’ve been awesome.

Having been a Dell monitor user at work for many years I appreciate this monitor’s joystick control in the back more than I imagined as it makes monitor adjustments that much easier to accomplish. Lastly, the absence of “in your face” branding is a nice touch over previous monitors and really highlights that picture quality is front and center here.

Overall, I am pleased with the monitor and I am glad I switched my original order to this new release while waiting for an older model to be completed.

As described, this is exactly what I need. I have two of them. One is my primary monitor and docking station for my Latitude 5520. This is ideal for minimizing wires and easing the movement of the laptop from briefcase to desktop.

The laptop power cord stays in my briefcase. On my desktop the laptop has a single usb-c connection to my monitor. The monitor stand is highly adjustable and I love knowing the worst part of the blue spectrum is filtered out.

My second monitor is used not only as a secondary monitor for my laptop, but it’s also a secondary monitor for my iMac. I haven’t gotten this working yet, purely due to not having the time to work on it, but in theory it should work great.

One monitor plays the part of two monitors. However, I must warn users that I am currently working with Dell support because the primary monitor does not go into standby mode when the laptop goes to sleep.

This appears to be related to my setup, which I expect would be pretty common. When the laptop is kept closed, as mine is, and the laptop is put to sleep by using the monitor to select Start -> Power -> Sleep, the monitor should then go into Standby mode but it doesn’t.

Its screen goes blank except that it continues to emit a faint white glow and the LED in the lower right never starts blinking. At night this glow is perceivable from the adjacent room, which is how I realized the monitor was never going into Standby mode.

When I purchased the first monitor I didn’t buy premium support and when I reported this problem I got nowhere. I decided I needed a second monitor so I purchased the second one with premium support.

I reported the problem again and quickly got escalated to tier 3. So, Dell is looking into the problem. If they could solve this Standby problem, I would give this monitor 5 stars.

I have been using this for 12 hours daily since Feb 2021 with a MacBook Air M1 and MS Surface Pro. Prior to this I used the 32 in 4k LG Ergo but that was causing me eyestrain. I also got the Dell 4k 2720q which is fine for the price but is also not as clear for text.

The tb3 and powered ports with supplied cables eliminated any need for a dock. It has only glitched once on me but a power off and restart a couple of times fixed that fortunately. I was hesitant to spend this much due to the reports of it suddenly dying on folks but until Apple comes out with a display of their own, its really the only option.

Very sharp. Better color than the first LG I got. Also, better viewing angle. First LG (not a 5k) had poor viewing angle that resulted in screen vignetting if I wasn’t dead on 90 degrees. This does not have that issue.

The stand allows the monitor to go 7 above the top of the stand base. Nice to have the higher range. No ghosting of items on the screen. Had monitor about three weeks now. So far so good. Comes fully assembled.

Just lift out of the box and turn it on.

This monitor pales the competition, in terms of rich colors, clarity, and port speeds! I returned the first one due to a problem, which also exists with the second one I ordered, and is the one major flaw of this monitor.

NOTE: Do not waste your time reading this paragraph if you are not placing your monitor near a window, as this flaw will not affect you, and please skip to the Pros and Cons below. The flaw is that if you use “Automatic Brightness”, found in your Display settings, (this is controlled by the “ambient light sensor” at the top of the monitor), the “sensor” goes wacky, (screen gets brighter or darker), randomly! This is caused if your monitor is near a window, and sits perpendicular, to it.

That is, (with one edge of monitor facing the window). After investigating further, and through trial and error, I found the light sensor in the monitor sits too close to the front of the monitor bezel (frame around the screen).

Therefore, it picks up a much wider range of light in the room, then if it were just “sensing” the ambient light focused in “front” of the monitor. So, if the light in the room is “slightly” brighter near the window, then the rest of the room (for example, mornings and evenings), the sensor can’t tell if it should adjust to a brighter or darker setting, and it randomly goes back and forth.

This is EXTREMELY annoying! The sensor is so sensitive, that even if move in your seat one way or the other, the screen gets brighter or darker, based on what part of the room your body is blocking the light! If it weren’t for this flaw I would have rated the monitor with 5 stars.

If you “manually” set the screen brightness, then this is not an issue, and the screen brightness does not change. However, one of the selling features about this monitor, is that it is supposed to “automatically” adjust the brightness all day and night, to accommodate the ambient light in the room, making it easier and more comfortable on your eyes! Ok, now for the pros and cons: Pros: 1.

The picture quality (colors and clarity), blows the competition away! It has rich colors and is extremely sharp, right out of the box! No need to fuss with changing the settings, unless you just want to do that.

I compared this monitor to 3 other monitors of the same size, and none came even close to the rich colors and clarity of this monitor. 2. It probably has the most USB-C ports, and fastest, port speeds of any other monitors, as it has 2 Thunderbolt, and 3 USB-C ports.

Most other monitors do not have Thunderbolt ports, or offer these data speeds). 3. All monitor settings are done from your Mac or PC. There are no obtrusive or annoying buttons to push on the monitor to control its settings.

Cons: 1. If you are placing your monitor near a window, please read the paragraph above! 2. It would be nice if there were a Display Port(s), and HDMI Port(s), as well, so you do not need special USB-C to DP or USB-C to HDMI cables, if you are connecting to other devices with those ports.

3. Even though it has great colors and clarity, it is pricey. This is the same price as a new Mac mini with the M1 chip! However, if those features are important to you, then it’s worth it. Overview: The best features of this monitor are the rich colors and clarity of the screen, as well as the quantity of the the Thunderbolt and USB-C ports.

If these are the most important features you are looking for, then this is a great monitor and worth the price.

Needed a monitor to use my Mac Book Air at home. Bought the $200 LG 24″ Full HD, which lacked clearness and returned it. Then bought the $400 LG 24″ IPS 4K UHD, which had better clarity but lacked brightness.

Learned a lot about “nits” and it basically had half the brightness of the Mac Book Air so it was returned. Decided on this LG Ultrafine 24″ IPS LED UHD. Excellent screen, perfect match for Mac products.

Its basically a 24″ retina display. The Thunderbolt ports are great. One cable from the back of the monitor provides both input to the screen and simultaneously charges the laptop. Keeps the second port on the laptop free to plug in printers and external drives.

I know its expensive compared to others, but frankly its worth it.

The monitor (purchased in January of 2021) produces a great-looking image when it works. Periodically, when the monitor has been off for a while and is turned back on, the screen will remain almost completely dark.

If I attempt to tab through open programs, the darkness level will change slightly from program to program. Turning the monitor off and disconnecting the cables for a few minutes will sometimes correct the problem.

The instructions suggest that with the monitor plugged in and the cables disconnected, a diagnostic feature in the monitor will be activated. This feature does not appear until after the monitor is working normally again.

I should mention that I do not use any Sleep features on these computers, but I do use screen-saver features. I disabled the monitor’s sleep feature to see if that might make a difference and it did not.

Dell’s website stated that if purchased at Best Buy, the monitor would need top be brought back there. As I did not purchase any type of extended warranty service, the Ocala, Florida Geek Squad (who were extremely helpful, by the way) wasn’t able to assist me directly, but they did provide me information for how to get in contact with Dell.

I contacted Dell’s customer service department via their chat feature. I described the screen darkness issues to the technician; as I use the monitor with both a Mac and a PC and he recommended that a Windows driver and Mac firmware update be downloaded and installed on the appropriate computers.

After the firmware and Windows driver were installed, I was still experiencing the same issues. I went as far as changing how the Mac and the PC were hooked up to the monitor to see if that would make any difference, and it did not.

I reached back out to tech-support, and informed them that everything has been installed but I was still experiencing the same issues. Tech-support told me that I would need to need to contact Mac support because the monitor was working properly.

I’m not exactly sure how they came to that conclusion but the Dell monitor continues to not work properly. I’m pretty sure that the issue is with the Dell monitor itself; I have an older LG monitor which was going to be replaced by the Dell.

On a few occasions when this has occurred, I’ve immediately disconnected everything from the the Dell monitor and hooked it up to my old LG monitor. The LG monitor works fine… no irregularities with the picture.

This monitor works well for me. I work primarily in spreadsheets and in terminal windows at the command prompt. First the pros. I can see all the columns on most spreadsheets without scrolling. No problems shifting computer input to the next.

Easy to display multiple documents on a single screen. I wish I’d gotten a larger monitor sooner. Cons. Although my Linux laptop displays properly there’s no management software. The windows display management application has limited locations for PBP or PIP.

If those locations and tile sizes dont fit your workflow you”re stuck because you cant change them. I don’t use Windows enough to have an opinion about the templates to arrange windows on a desktop. The advertising copy about the monitor makes it sound like you can drag documents from one computer to another, but its not obvious how it works and undocumented (or I’ve missed it in the documentation.

) I hoped to get down to a single monitor for work, but the minimal Linux support and inflexibility of the PIP/PBP templates killed that dream. I’ve defaulted to simply treating this like a normal monitor with a kvm and swapping inputs between my primary & tertiary work machines with the secondary laptop on a separate monitor.

If you work entirely in Windows and the PIP/PBP templates mesh with your workflow you’ll probably like this monitor. If you work primarily in Linix it’s still a nice monitor, but if you already have a KVM it may not be the monitor for you.

This monitor until recently was the only Thunderbolt 3 option for a MacPro 7. 1 2019 desktop other than the XBR at ~3X the price. Visually it is a great display but has major flaws. In particular a flaky internal USB Hub.

If other devices are connected to its internal hub, other than the computer it may result in a kernel panic on computer shutdown which manifests itself as a long shutdown delay and either a kernel panic on restarting or a ‘watchdog’ error message on login or both, The LG internal hub also has very limited power capability and over straining it such as charging devices from it may damage the board requiring repair.

This was reported to me by an authorized repair center of my previous unit who showed me a stack of interface boards when I took my previous one in for repair. I took my previous one into repair after it failed after having it for 15 months – 3 months out of warranty.

It was unable to be repaired due to display failure. The only support or compensation I received from LG was a few hundred-dollar check to purchase a new one as the cost of repair was the same or more than a new unit.

While a solid stand it lacks freedom of movement. Horizontal movement is limited and the monitor cannot be rotated into portrait mode. I chose to use the VERSA mount and purchase a StarTech Monitor Stand which allows this.

My advice, should you choose to purchase this monitor, be sure to get an extended warranty; do not use the rear connectors for anything other than connecting to the computer; and replace the stand with one that offers more flexibility.

Great screen for productivity and the stand is apt for someone who wants to comfortably use for both a sit/stand mode. I have been using for 3 months now. I want to give a 5star but, the following point makes me go with 4: The only issue i faced so far is the usb-c port stopped working within 3 months.

The port became very flimsy and did not sit in place. LG was quick to replace the motherboard and thus the issue is resolved, however the cable that came out of box for usb-c too stopped working at the same time and sadly this wasn’t replaced according to the limited warranty.

Though it is only 3 months so far – now I have to buy the cable (since 4k usb-c are slightly expensive – this is a pain point for me – considering the price of this monitor – was hoping they would replace the faulty usb-c cable too) Otherwise – no issues so far – goes well with my macbook.

As this is an expensive monitor – it is highly recommended for those who spend more than 7-8 hours of continuous work and want such screen real-estate. However this is a productivity monitor – so good for developers, designers, business users and not to be considered a gaming monitor as they require higher FPS and probably more intensive display options.

I also use it as a tv once in a while – the inbuilt speakers are loud for a small room – but it isn’t exactly a TV as there is no remote – but the LG app on the macbook can be used to manage the settings.

Overall – this is my productivity motivation and am happy to have gone with it over other 4k monitors.

Purchased the 32UL950-W on Amazon Prime day ’20 to make advantage of the slightly discounted price in combination with rewards points I’d accumulated. This brought the cost down from very expensive to merely expensive.

Opted for this model for two primary reasons: screen real estate and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. Also influencing my decision: I’ve a LG OLED 55″ TV that I’m very pleased with. In these times of WFH where home office space is at a premium I use the LG for double duty.

The HDMI input is connected directly to my work issued Dell laptop. I work 12-hour shifts on a rotating, two week schedule so having a high quality display makes it easier to stare at for hours on end.

The second connection is via TB3 to a CalDigit TS3Plus also connected by TB3 to a late-2016 MacBook Pro where I predominantly use Audio/MIDI software as an amateur musician. The 2nd USB-C connection on the 32UL950 is used for a Logitech StreamCam as there is no built in Webcam on the LG.

This is used for FaceTime and Zoom calls with an eye towards doing some live streaming. This configuration allows me to easily swap between work and home by merely toggling between input connections on the LG.

The OnScreen Control app is useful, but I’d already been using Mosaic (and previously Magnet) to manage window layouts on macOS 10. 15. I seem to recall having difficulty running the bundled apps and firmware from the web download URLs and opted to install those from the bundled CD and allow them to auto-updated individually until I arrived at the current versions when I installed the LG.

YMMV. In combination with the MBP, my 50something year old eyes find the 2560 x 1440 setting the easiest to read, but I typically run at 3008 x 1692 as an acceptable compromise between maximizing the screen real estate and readability.

That said, this monitor looks fantastic at 3840 x 2160 which I use on occasion for streaming content. In regards to software the welcome trend of scalable GUI’s makes it easier to use this monitor when running at higher resolutions, but not all legacy software will see this type of update hence switching between resolutions is nice.

Prior to opting for this monitor I’d long considered the very capable 27UK850 (now replaced by the 27UN850), but opted for this display as previously stated, due to the larger screen and TB3 connectivity.

That being said, I’m fairly confident I could have run a comparable configuration utilizing the DisplayPort option on either of those monitors. The lack of a built in WebCam is a concern and I opted for the StreamCam to make use of 1080p at 60fps which USB 3.

0 (on a USB-C connection) accommodates for (at some expense of CPU. ) File under ‘In for a penny, in for a pound. ‘ I’ve run various other USB accessories (Flash Drives and and external LG CD-ROM) from the additional ports on the 32UL950 with no issues.

I appreciate the inclusion of these ports as they can be useful at times. The mounting stand is sturdy and easily assembled and obscures the cables from view, but I’ve a notion my home office desk will be replaced/upgraded at which point I’ll acquire a mounting arm to free up even more desktop space.

First, the color is great. The monitor looks very nice. This can all be found on any review of this monitor. There are a couple negatives that I’ve never seen mentioned. I’ve worked with BenQ support to resolve both of these issues and neither had a satisfactory fix.

1) HDR mode. I somehow switched this monitor to HDR. Because of this, I can not switch to rec 709 which is the reason I bought this monitor. In fact, I can’t switch to any other color profile. BenQ said that this is because Windows manages HDR so in order to switch it off, I have to find settings in Windows and turn it off there.

This should have been mentioned in the documentation so that people would know to avoid it if this is an issue. This model has a puck to quickly set certain settings but what is the point when you also have to go into Windows to adjust things? Note that I did do a factory reset but even that didn’t help.

2) While the resolution is typically great, black text on white background is all but illegible. I bought this monitor to replace a very cheap monitor that handled black text on white perfectly. There’s not really an excuse for an $800 monitor to not show clear text.

BenQ’s advice was to look at something else instead(???) So I will. Maybe an ASUS.

I’ve owned this monitor for about 3 weeks at the time of this review. It wasn’t available inside of Best Buy stores (or on display) so I had to do a little more digging to find out more information about it.

I was originally looking for 38″ (which are hard to come by) or a 49″ monitor, and wasn’t sure if a 34″ would be big enough. Made a couple visits to best buy to compare other monitors similarly sized, and decided to order it.

Immediately upon unboxing it, I was blown away from the outside color. Pictures make it seem like it’s all white, but really, it’s a grey-ish color, similar to a Macbook Pro, the back side is glossy white.

If you use a Mac or Mac mini, this will look good with your setup. I use this monitor for work, and it holds up very well. Big bonus is, it has a built in “hub” with two USB 3. 0 ports, 2 thunderbolt 3 ports (one connects to your MacBook – which simultaneously powers it, transfers data and displays image, the other is used to power peripherals or daisy chaining the monitor), one HDMI port, one display port, one 3.

5 mm headphone jack, and built in speakers. The speakers were a surprise to me, as I wasn’t really expecting it, but good to have if/when you use your laptop in clam shell mode, so audio isn’t as muffled.

I do not use this monitor for gaming, but i’m sure the picture quality is still good enough. It lacks HDR though, so if this is something you’re looking for, might be a deal breaker. Picture quality overall is amazing for video streaming, even without HDR.

This has improved my overall workflow, as previously I used two monitors and a bunch of cables. Now my work station is clutter free. Overall, if you’re OK with no HDR and looking for thunderbolt support, this is the one.

Connected Device: Lenovo Yoga C940 (with 2 Thunderbolt 3 Ports) OS: Windows 11 Cable: Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Cable This monitor is beautiful, looks great, and is everything I would want: (great size, love the curved screen, love the ultra-wide, love the resolution, decent refresh rate, and most importantly – Thunderbolt 3 compatible) – but to cut to the point – this screen flickers, a lot, and is ultra-noticeable, and ultra-annoying.

The screen flickering is not constant, but rather, intermittently. I would say on average, the flicker is about once every ten minutes. It’s definitely enough that I constantly notice it. And keep in mind that in any monitor I’ve ever owned I’ve never had a screen flicker at all (including my $200 monitor that I had before this one).

I have tried just about all I can think to do to rectify the screen flickering issue: 1) updated any related drivers (graphics card, Thunderbolt 3 etc); 2) Played with Refresh Rate coming from graphics card – I tried 60, I tried 100 (100Hz would match what the monitor’s refresh rate is).

3) Bought a more premium Thunderbolt 3 cable and tried that instead of the one that came with the monitor. 4) I tried connecting the laptop to the monitor with a USB-C to HDMI adaptor – issue still present with that set up.

5) I tried plugging the power source of the monitor to be in a stand-alone outlet (versus being in a surge protector with other devices). 6) I also did contact Samsung support which overall wasn’t very helpful / did not remediate the issue.

No matter what I tried, the result is the same – intermittent flickering. This screen would have been absolutely perfect for me without the screen flickering. But because of this, I think it’s best for me to return the monitor and look for something else.

Throwing this kind of money down for a monitor that flickers is just unacceptable to me.

I bought my monitor since we started to work from home due to the pandemic. I am a software engineer, so having a lot of real state was the main argument to purchase it. I have it connected to my work laptop via HDMI and my personal laptop via Thunderbolt 3 connector.

So it is very practical to switch from one to another. The HDMI connection is very reliable, I have had almost no issues with it. However, the Thunderbolt 3 connection is not as reliable. I have had to physically disconnect the cable from the back of the monitor some times for my laptop to get recognized again because doing it from the end to the laptop did not work.

I am using the provided USB Thunderbolt 3 cable for this connection so I don’t think the cable is the issue. Other than that, the brightness is great, the resolution is also awesome, the colors are vivid.

I also like that it has built-in speakers and I did not expect them to have a nice quality sound, but they are enough for my needs. I play music while working and sometimes use them during conversations in video chats although I use my headset most of the times for that.

However, improving the sound quality also would be great. I think adding a built-in video camera would be the cherry on the top (literally), but it has to be an HD camera, because the monitor itself is very pricey and the video camera has to be as good as that.

In summary, I am very happy with my monitor because of how wide it is and how nice the resolution of the images are.

I purchased the PA329C because I wanted a color accurate monitor that could be hardware calibrated, but didn’t want to spend a small fortune for one. I came across the PA329C and it fit the bill spec and price wise, so I figured I’d give it a shot.

So, far I am impressed with the color reproduction and accuracy. I had a small hiccup with the ASUS ProArt calibration software not recognizing that the USB-A to USB-C was connected to my PC, so I was unable to calibrate the monitor.

After a bunch of back and forth with ASUS support, which is about useless in my opinion I had no resolution to the this issue. I found on my own that the PA329Q required a ProArt_Calibration_Device_Driver in order for the PA329Q to be calibrated with the ProArt calibration software.

After doing a comparison between the PA329C and PA329Q they appear to be pretty much the same monitor, so I figured I’d try installing the ProArt_Calibration_Device_Driver and see if it would resolve my issue.

And much to my surprise it did and I was able to finally calibrate my PA329C. The monitor itself is great, but ASUS support not so much. After 3 weeks of multiple daily back and forth emails and using their chat line I got no real solutions from them.

So, if you want what seems to be so far a great color accurate monitor that can be hardware calibrated at a reasonable price, then the PA329C is a great option. Just be prepared if you have any issues, that ASUS support is subpar to say the least.

Despite a lot of back-and-forth between BenQ and Apple, I am unable to resolve the persistent flickering that I am receiving between the BenQ PD2700U and my MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021) using the M1 Max chipset.

I have swapped HDMI cables and used USB-C cables with no difference, and have looked through every available setting. It flickers more at night in dark mode and with certain colors which is extremely annoying as a photo editor who frequently works in darkened environments.

It’s quite nauseating. The display is also not as bright as advertised and there is a considerable contrast/color difference between what is advertised. Based on research and other user experiences, it does not seem that many BenQ displays are compatible with newer Apple devices.

Additionally, BenQ’s own DisplayPilot software doesn’t work completely with the m1/m2 chipsets (and whose settings don’t save in the app anyways).

I’m a photographer and also shoot and edit video from time to time. Like every other consumer, I went through hundreds of reviews before making a purchase on a monitor to pair with my Mac Mini. I eventually settled on the BenQ after narrowing down my options to the Dell and LG Ultrafine models.

I’m happy to report that I’m extremely happy with this purchase and even considering adding a second one. Text is crisp and sharp, the colours are accurate from the box and I love the 4K resolution when watching High quality videos and even HDR content.

The display is sleek and the matte finish is stunning. For a photographer or editor keen on accurate colours and a high quality display, without breaking the bank for the higher end monitors that cost $1000, this monitor comes in at a good price point for the quality you get.

The only drawback I have is that it’s not USB-C but that isn’t much of a dealbreaker for me.

*UPDATE* 1 Day later So the issues of the first monitor bothered me enough to contact Dell to see what they could do about it. To my surprise, they said the product warranty according to the tag number was already EXPIRED!? Umm, what the heck Dell, this was a brand new monitor purchased from an authorized reseller.

Anyway, they sent me back to Home Essentials Direct to resolve it. Home Essentials Direct was good enough to send me an exchange. So the second one just came, and I set it up. There’s still some uniformity issues with color on the all white screen.

Also there’s a noticeable vignetting going on with both monitors I received, showing a brownish tint from all 4 edges of the screen to about 1. 5 to 2 inches in. The second screen I just received didn’t have the bad areas of darker bars of pixels, but there’s noticeable areas of color shift throughout the whole screen.

Now I’m contemplating whether I live with it and say good enough, or give up on Dell altogether and look at the BenQ version of a miniLED. It’s disappointing that a monitor with a $4k price tag would force me to make such decisions and not just be completely satisfying.

Also, I’m very concerned with how Dell is seemingly rejecting warranty coverage on these if purchased from Home Essentials Direct. *12-01-2021* There are some serious uniformity issues for such a premium priced monitor.

If you look at my photos, there’s a whole rectangular bar of darker pixels in the upper right corner as well as some through the lower middle of the screen. It almost looks like “burn-in” which makes me suspicious if I was issued a factory refurbished monitor for a NEW Monitor price.

I bought this monitor to replace my 10yr old U3011 that has finally gasped it’s last breathe after a few months of showing signs of failure. The pixel density on this monitor is definitely nice and the picture is SUPER SHARP.

This aspect of the monitor is very nice and the overall dimensions is actually slightly smaller than my old U3011 due to the tiny bezels. I’m just really disappointed in the horrible screen uniformity, especially if I’m going to be doing some color work on this thing.

You can see that the uniformity affects all 3 colors as well. I’m in need of a monitor but at the same time, I’m contemplating returning this thing as the price tag is quite high for this kind of disappointment.

I’ll have to see what Home Essentials Direct or Dell suggests to do.

Actually, it would be 4 1/2 stars. I was looking for a 27″ external display to use with my new MacBook Pro M1 14″ (MBP). My main use is emails and the MS Office suite for personal home use. My first criteria were sharpness of texts (fonts) and a smooth display.

After four days of reading reviews and recommendations, I purchased a well-referenced 4k display from a competitor, as it is amply reported that 4k provides sharper display rendition. That is true for photos and videos, outstanding actually, but not the case for texts in Words, numbers in Excel, etc.

I have returned the display and spent another 4 days looking for a UHD/QHD type display and settled for the Dell UltraSharp 27 Monitor – U2722D. Photos and videos are sharp and colourful for my layman use.

As required, text sharpness is up there to office use standard and actually better than the ones used in the office. I do not detect loss in quality around the edges. It is very soft on my eyes, a big plus for me.

The 4K was just too aggressive. The display can be adjusted with a toggle switch located at the bottom back, right-hand side. Left-handers may find this annoying. There are five adjustment menus and multiple sub-menus, but there may be insufficient options for demanding users.

The plastic aluminum looking foot looks good with the MBP and is stable. I am overall very satisfied with the display, but for two exceptions, hence the half-star loss. First, the display does not swivel horizontally, which is annoying when plugging/unplugging cables.

Yes, it flips to a vertical position, but that is not sufficient for an easy access to the bottom of the display. Second, although there are sufficient connection options, I would have liked to have an RJ-45 hookup, as portables often do not have one.

So, you lose a USB connection to allow for your internet hookup. At that price point, I believe that the swivel and RJ-45 connection options should be present nowadays. I would certainly recommend the display to a friend.

This monitor is groundbreaking when comparing the competition in the industry. Similar monitors can cost easily over $10,000 in the professional industry. Anyway, this monitor is not for the average joe.

I’ve tested this one at my job and it is extremely impressive. If you’re looking at this post and seeing the entry-level price as being ridiculous then this monitor was not aimed for you. Apple targeted the professional industry and my review — along with a vast amount of tech video reviews on the internet concur.

Please DO NOT get this monitor as a casual monitor. I would not recommend it for regular use (browsing the internet, reading emails, and/or listening to music) but if you’re a content creator being serious about your profession DO NOT hesitate! Great for Photographers, Developers, and Movie Studios.

I can’t tell about video gaming just yet but I look forward to being able to see those 3D graphics on this computer soon!.

I was waiting for an M2 27 iMac but when I read that no new Apple processor (M1/M2) 27 iMac was going to be offered by Apple, I bought a MacBook Pro. I am used to processing my pictures on a 27 screen so it made sense to purchase this display.

It feels frustrating as the display is more costly than prior base 27 iMacs and about the cost of an upgraded M1 24 iMac. On the other hand, the display is bright and colors are rich and appear accurate so the display very much meets my needs for processing photographs and short video’s with Lightroom/Photoshop/Final Cut Pro.

I often print my pictures so the ability to change reference modes to match what I am working on is very helpful so I get accurate color and intensity rendering. The monitor only starts once the computer initiates system loading on booting – for some reason this reminds me that this is not an iMac and is a personal minor annoyance.

Ports on the back of the display are helpful as is using the single USB Type-C (Thunderbolt 3) to charge the MacBook Pro. I went with the standard glass as reflections are not a major issue and I keep the room on the dark side when editing pictures and I am happy with my choice.

In the end, an excellent monitor but I took one star off as I think this should have been an iMac and not a monitor for this price an I would have preferred a less cluttered work-space with one device rather than two.

I purchased this monitor to pair with a 16″ Macbook Pro with a 2. 4GHz 8‑core Intel Core i9, 16MB shared L3 cache, 32GB of onboard memory, AMD Radeon Pro 5600M with 8GB of HBM2 memory and 1TB SSD. The intent was to replace an aging 27″ iMac outfitted with an auxiliary 27″ HD monitor.

The goal was have enough screen real estate to accommodate 3 apps opened simultaneously (Typically, MS Word, Excel and either PowerPoint or Outlook) without the need to resize each one when the second and/or third app was launched.

Aesthetically, the design is reasonably attractive and pairs well with the MacBook Pro 16”. With its thin 3/8” bezels the monitor measures 28. 375″ wide, 16. 5″ high and 19. 125 high when on the stand set at its lowest point.

The depth of the unit as measured from the back of the stand to the front of the display is about 9”. There is little to do in assembling the unit and assembly is intuitive and is accomplished in a few minutes without tools.

The key word being “intuitive”, as the documentation is very sparse. Surprising, the unit comes with a CD which I presume contains the assempley instructions. At $1500 with tax and fees, one would expect the entire stand to be fabricated from metal.

However, while the base of the stand is metal, the monitor support tower is plastic which, as you might expect, has significantly less structural integrity than metal. Surprisingly, the plastic tower provides reasonable stability for the large and somewhat heavy 13.

7 pound unit. However, if plan to raise the monitor to its maximum height, the monitor moderately sways if knocked or it the surface on which it sits is bumped. Of course, none of this is an issue if you plan to mount the monitor on the wall.

When on the stand, the display can be tilted. The picture quality is very good but at 3840 x 2160 doesn’t appear as sharp as the Retina display on the iMac. If you’re a gamer, this monitor might not be a great fit with only a 60Hz refresh rate and a 5 millisecond response time.

The reason for buying the monitor was to have a large continuous space. This device gets you partially there but if you have sufficient space, you might consider LG’s 38” curved monitor which is sufficiently large to permit multiple apps to open simultaneously without having to constantly resize them.

That device is more responsive at 1 millisecond and a refresh rate of 144Hz. Of course it comes in at $1600, a significant increase in price over the 31. 5”. However, if you contemplated 2 27” Thuderbolt high res monitors, the 38” is less money.

If the purchase doesn’t need to be made immediately, you might consider waiting to see what manufacturer’s launch at the 2021 CES next month.

When this first came out, I consumed the backlash like everyone else did. I was skeptical, but I knew I would try to get it at some point. I happened to luck up on when shortly after the launch at a Best Buy in my city so I jumped on it because they were hard to get at the time.

I’m a long-time mac user, I used to do more creative work, but now this is more for general productivity and office work. I don’t use it as much for media consumption, but it handles that well when called upon.

I’ve now been using it full time for just over 2 months> it integrates into my setup perfectly (2021 Macbook pro). The 5k resolution is native to macOS, and to my knowledge, there isn’t another display that renders MacOS this way.

so everything is sharp and bright, pleasing to the eye. WIll work very well for creative work (photography in my case) and for productivity (MS Office and other ‘desk job’ type of work). Build quality: this is as good as it gets.

I have a cinema display from 2004 and a thunderbolt from 2011, both of which still work and still look great despite their age. both are still usable today, and I have little doubt this screen can last me that long as well.

I also have 2 LG 4k monitors and an ultrawide so I have other options to make up for where this monitor lacks like for gaming or needing to hook up a windows machine, etc. this basically completes my home setup and compliments my MBP perfectly.

I know it’s costly but it’s an underrated device when you consider who it’s made for. I am the right user for this based on my use cases, but that may not be true for everyone. If you have your eye on it and you like it, it will not disappoint you, and I would recommend making the purchase if you are a late-model mac user.

I’ve been searching for a 4K monitor for my new 16-inch Macbook Pro M1 Pro, which I use for productivity and photo editing. Because of the price, I placed the Studio Display at the bottom of the list as a last resort and owning the Pro XDR display was inconceivable.

Just like everyone, I’ve watched Youtube reviews of numerous monitors. I’ve tried a few, but eventually ended up returning them. I just could not find one with the best color accuracy, text clarity, and build quality.

After much frustration, I bit the bullet and nervously picked up the Studio Display yesterday. I was lucky to find a standard version in stock at the nearest Best Buy. After 24-hours of working with this monitor, I am very impressed how sharp, clear, and bright every text and photos are presented.

For what I do, this is the monitor that I’ve been searching for. The aluminum construction is topnotch and did not jiggle when the desk is accidentally bumped. Because of the Apple “eco system,” it simply just worked straight out of the box with the use of one thunderbolt cable.

No power button. It also worked with my 2018 iPad Pro without any hiccups. The non-adjustable height is not a big deal to me as I ordered a monitor riser to set this on to. Although a 32-inch monitor would’ve been nice, the 27-inch is just right.

I only wish that the finish also came in space gray to match the finish of my Macbook. The built-in 12 megapixel camera is lackluster at this time, but word is that Apple is working on a software update to address the issue.

I know the Studio Display is not for everyone, but it is for me from a productivity stand point.

The highest quality 5K screen to date. If you’re wondering why 5K is important it’s for 2 reasons. Retina/HiDPI and viewing angle. What that means is you have 4x the pixel density of a 2560×1440 monitor, meaning you can run “scaled” 1440p resolution with 4 times the clarity, which allows lots of workspace and proper scaling.

This can NOT be done properly on a 4K screen, which is what many of the haters are saying is a better value. Try both side by side and make up your own mind. Your eyes will thank you for it! Also, being 5K means it’s larger than 4K so you can have a video at full 4K while having menus and toolbars out of the frame (I’m not a video editor but I know plenty).

Lastly, the viewing angle which Apples glossy screen surface actually allows better edge to edge clarity with less washout. Believe me, these screens are so easy to work with and I own dozens of screens, workstations and TV’s (A 5K OLED would give it a run for it’s money but they don’t exist and an 8K doesn’t scale properly and are too large for workstations anyhow).

Speakers are great as far as monitor speakers go. Yes, there are better webcams but I didn’t buy this for that purpose as this is a “work” monitor not a giant Siri/iPad/toy. This monitor wants to be run on Monterey, but works on BigSur without full integration.
