11 Best Scissors For Rag Quilts (2023 Updated)

I received these scissors yesterday and used them immediately. I was working on a fun personal craft project using both paper and some fabric. The smaller size of the scissors, the sharpness of the blades, the sharpness of the “tips” of the blades, and the soft grips on the handles quickly made them my favorite scissors.

The small size makes these scissors convenient to store and carry with me to work on a craft project outside in my patio. I always find that large scissors are too bulky to cut fabric or paper for intricate projects, and these smaller scissors worked very well.

I had done a personal “altered book” project several years ago, using fabric, images cut from magazines, paper, paint, sequins, stones, etc. to make designs on the pages of an old worthless book, and I wish I had these scissors back then.

Yesterday I remembered that as a child, there were “sewing scissors” in the home, and they were only used for sewing AND haircuts. During this present time of COVID-19 stay-at-home and closed hair salons, I needed a hair trim, and these scissors would probably be ideal to do the job.

The sharp blades and precision cutting meant no “sawing” on the hair, and instead it was clean and precise cuts–yes these scissors did cut hair very well. I also know these scissors would precisely cut yarn.

These scissors are amazing! I had to get new ones and saw theses hanging around they caught my eye due to them being recycled so I went ahead and asked an employee what she thought about them and she mentioned how great these scissors worked.

I purchased them and they are by far the best fabric scissors i’ve bought. The length is also super handy and convenient when cutting several loads. They are also super smooth and cut like butter. Amazing purchase 10/10 recommend.

Got these for trimming bulky seams in quilting. And – WOW! Amazingly sharp for for precise cutting, and the very narrow blades are perfect for getting between the seam layers. Regular sewing scissors were often too bulky and clunky.

Wish I got these sooner. Very impressed with how well they work! Absolutely worth every cent. Love them!.

Fiskars is my go-to brand for scissors. They stand up to wear and tear. The size makes them convenient to carry in a project bag for projects on the go. The only thing I don’t like is they do not come with a cover.

They are very pointy and sharp. Therefore they must be covered for the protection of your bag & your hands. It’s not fun to reach into your bag or drawer only to be jabbed by your favorite scissors.

I bought these for the specific purpose of clipping rag quilts which I make a lot of. I first purchased the Fiskars rag quilt snips. I loved those but they were dull after clipping 3 quilts! I returned them and bought these.

These are super sharp–they cut through 6 layers of fabric super easy! I am hoping they stay sharp. The only thing I DON’T like about these is the fact that the handles are so small and not very comfy on my hand.

When you are clipping rag quilts that really is a big deal.

Very easy to use. Cut great sharp and no any force needed. I do have wery weak hands, cannot use them with easy. This tool just must-have for any quilter. It is pricely, yes, but it works great. Cheapest way do buy nothing.

But if I need to buy something I prefer it works in the way I need it. This is one. Very happy I bought it.

These are the only scissors that I will use for rag quilting! They work better than any of the others I have tried! They are strong, well made and work amazingly. I have turned all of my quilting friends on to them!.

I have made a few rag quilts and I would never be able to finish without these. I’ve tried several brands and these are the best.

I bought these to shorten my wedding dress which had a full-length and very full upper layer (fine organza) with a silky under-layer (equally full). This involved cutting and hemming huge lengths of material.

The stakes were very high as this was my wedding dress! I could not have done this without these amazingly sharp and precise shears.

Bought these as part of a Xmas present for my Wife to use for making alterations to clothes etc. She was delighted with them and found that they cut a multitude of fabrics exceptionally well and liked the orange, easy find colour and the snap on blade protector as well as the comfortable soft grip handles.

All in all an excellent product and first class service and delivery from John Lewis as always.

I have owned a pair of Fiskars dressmaking scissors for over 30 yrs and was pleased to find they were still available. , I use them for all types of material. These are a pleasure to use. The blades are long enough for cutting large sections of fabric but easy to manoeuvre around smaller sections, notches etc.

I really like the softer handles – no more sore thumb joint after cutting heavy or stiff fabrics!.

They are also good value and come with a protective cover for the blades.

Searching for new dressmaking scissors the very friendly assistant suggested these, once I had explained that I did not want them for cutting particularly heavy fabrics. Initially, given the price, I thought they might not be of the quality and as sharp as I would like.

However she assured me they were and as she certainly seemed to know her stuff, I purchased them. And I am so glad I did since they do the job perfectly. They cut seemlessly through the fabrics I have been using so far, and have a very comfortable grip.

These are definitely without a doubt one of the best makes of scissors for the sewer on the market today in my opinion. They cut precisely, stay sharp and I would not be without them as they are a must in any sewer’s equipment bag.

They are a lovely size, good ergonomic design, fits nicely in the hand and are a true grip. The blades give a long clean slice line on all fabric types and the scissors have a lovely weight.

These scissors do a very good job! However, I’m strictly a Gingher user, so I’m used to a different feel of the scissors in my hand. These are taking a little getting used to but they definitely get the job done with no problems whatsoever.

Plus, I got them for a really good price so I bought two pair. I bought these because I couldn’t find Gingher in 12 inches. But I’m really happy with these Sullivan’s. So purchase them…you won’t be disappointed.

These remind me of scissor my grandmother used to have when I was little (60’s &70’s). Hers were a few sizes smaller. These are very heavy and sharp and look like they would last decades. Unfortunately, too heavy for my small- average size hands.

I can only open them about a third of the way. They are more of a novelty size I guess. I guess for some reason 12″ must not of sounded that big when I bought them. I recommend them with reservations.

It really depends on the size of your hands and muscles. I wish zulily had the smaller size like 8″ and 4″.
