20 Best Scanner For Home Organization (2023 Updated)

I bought this scanner along with a paper shredder so I could digitize my personal financial documents and now I wish I had done it years earlier! I’ve gotten years of paperwork out of my house in just days.

This unit is incredibly easy to set up and use, and it’s quick and efficient. The only problem I’ve encountered is occasional misfeeds, but that’s easily resolved by fanning the pages before putting them in the document feeder.

I bought a second unit exclusively for work since I’m working in a hybrid environment, and it’s going to be very easy to take it back and forth to the office with my laptop. This is so much faster and easier than scanning with our shared all-in-one machine in the office!.

I am happy with this SV600 overhead scanner. Max optical resolution of this scanner is 600 dpi. Due to the distance from the scanner to the object, it can be achieved only if the object book, poster, etc is really flat and les than 5mm thick.

For open book this is not possible some distortion exists between the open pages. However 300 dpi JPG compression 2 out of three levels produces very good results for illustrated book scanning scanning simultaneously two pages of an open book.

The software which corrects middle page curvature, is not very effective for thick books. In such case better press the open book with antireflex glass plate. The 300 dpi resolution is almost equal at the middle and the periphery of the object.

Having on mind that the object can be a bit larger than A3 size, this is very good. The colours are close to reality, but you have to scan in a relatively dark room only with lowpower sidelight. Considering changing of geometry placing the object close to the scanner head this will not work, as the focusing distance has only small variation.

Due to the fixed focusing distance the company specifies that one cannot scan a book thicker than 3cm. If the book is thicker defocussing appear and he only solution is to lift the scanner on a small pedestal over the book in order to keep the specific focusing distance.

This machine is very quick. If you have a lotto scan, large documents, or books, then consider the SV600. With it set on timer, you can be making a new scan every 5 seconds. I havent tried it configured to recognise page turning yet but the reports arent good.

The supplied software is not intuitive. Start scanning and the ScanSnap Manager starts up. Then you have to select whetherto crop and save asis or correct and save doublepage images booksmagazines. You have to make this choice every session, it doesnt remember, or let you chose a default.

If you are doing doublespreads thenclick onCheckCorrect, and sit and wait, for the Book Image Viewer to open. This is what you use to adjust the image size if necessary and split double spreads. Its supposed to be what you use to remove finger images if youve had tostop pages lifting during scanning.

My limited experience it isnt very good. Splitting the pages is ok, it leaves them in the right order. Then Save and Exit, and wait, for the ScanSnap Organizer to open. Then you can convert the scans into a searchable PDF, and some other stuff as well, but Im not sure why you would want to.

So click on the Convert into Searchable PDF button, and the PDF Conversion List window opens, quite quick this one. Witha short document its ok. With a longer one it keeps stopping for a rest. I get the impression that the software would run on my old 486 machine of nearly 30 years ago, but more slowly.

It doesnt feel as though its been designed in the 21st century, whenPCs have multi processors and lots of memory. And why cant it let you say, in effect, Im going to scan this type of document and I want to do this with the output Should be a piece of cake these days.

Nevertheless, the SV600 is a good piece of kit. Just imagine the amount of time saved by not having open and close the scannerlid every few seconds if you have a real production job to do. Set it on timer, sit in front of it and turn the page every five seconds.

Probably get it down to four with practice.

The SV600 is a fine piece of equipment for those serious about scanning books. Some practice is required to minimise the amount of postprocessing. The software that isolates the book opening from the whole image is quite particular about how the book is positioned.

Ive found that the setting which causes the scan to be triggered by pageturning does not work particularly well I prefer the timer. Eliminating fingers from the image for any lengthy scan is better done by cropping, e.

g. with Acrobat or Preview. Nevertheless the SV600 makes it practical to scan in a small library, book by book. It is expensive but well worth the price.

I wish Epson would have some step by step tutorials for usage calling support is not very helpful all they do is refer to settings. I would like to see usage and tutorials & videos for all the included software.

Although the add was clear that it was the UNIT ONLY – I thought it just meant there wouldn’t be any manuals or patch cord. I didn’t realize it wouldn’t come without a power source? As I am waiting for the power source – which cost me another $60 – I have no idea if this is operable or not – you might see it back afterall.

You really should have been more clear that it did not come with a power source in your ad. I likely would have still ordered it- but A) I would have known about it and B) would have ordered a power source – now I’m waiting an extra 3 weeks before I can use my scanner – and/or see if it is in good working order.

Have used this scanner at work for years to do some heavy duty scanning. Decided to add one to my home office despite the cost. Did not come with any software and only included a power cord. Had to make a trip to buy a USB A to B cable.

Also the software is downloaded online. Not exactly plug and play but after setup, the scanner works better than advertised and is very fast.

This model is quite a few years old now and I believe there is a newer one on the market. However, this is the VERY BEST scanner I have ever used in my many years as an office support employee. I recently purchased one for home on Ebay.

It worked exactly as I remember and is amazing. I plan to do away with much of my paper clutter. The only drawback if you buy this second hand is missing the cd of software. Normally, you could go to the main website and download them, but in this case, the software programs are third-party and Fujitsu does NOT allow you to download them.

I have completed their online forms to receive a link to download the other programs, but after a week, no response. The other programs allow you to scan any type of document to MS Office, as a. pdf and many other options.

I would highly recommend this scanner to anyone who wants something compact, speedy and scans in quality graphics.

The scanner has speed, and duplex scanning going for it. These are huge features for volume production to replace paper with electronic documents. However, read on. First, would have rated this higher based on performance alone, but the device is NOT compatible with and server versions of Windows, therefore it must be attached to a workstation.

If that is how you intend to use, it, consider my rating a 4. 5. Second, we had planned to use it on a windows server, as that is where the archive of stored documents is and it would have been easier to scan it directly into the repository than have to save it from the workstation and tie up a workstation using it.

Third, to make the scanned documents maintain their format, they need to be scanned to PDF, which results in a picture, not a document. Then you OCR’d the PDF to make it editable. Therein comes the rub, the OCR software is average at best.

Be sure you have an excellent, third party OCR product available to use with this. Nuance has sold Omnipage to a third party, and while there is an update to Omnipage Ultimate for Windows 10, there is no improvement in its OCR capabilities.

It will recognize the scanner, and if you are satisfied with Omnipage, you are home free. Foxit (PDF competitor) offers OCR scanning also, and depending on the documents does a better job than the free software with the scanner.

It would have been nice if the scanner had offered a full function OCR package like Omnipage. If it had we would have rated it 4. 5, but you have to pay extra for good software to do the OCR step, so we gave it a 3.

Again, the low rating isn’t the scanner itself, its the lack of solution that is provided. Some may find this fine and all they expect, but we hoped for a complete solution and were disappointed. Fortunately we have Omnipage Ultimate and Foxit and have been experimenting with both to handle the OCR task.

This is a review for the Epson ES-500W Wireless Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. When I got notice that I was chosen for the review, I was relieved that I would be able to scan, store, and archive all of the paperwork associated with our Health Savings Account and not need to keep paper backups beyond a year.

The best part of this scanner is the double-sided scanning. With just a single path, both sides of the paper get captured, which means that you do not need to scan the pile of paper (up to 50 sheets at a time), flip them over, and send them back through the scanner to get the other side.

Having a smaller scanner that can sit on a smaller area of a tabletop is much better than having to pull out the Epson photo scanner every time we need to scan a document in. Without auto document feed, it becomes cumbersome to do more than one or two sheets at a time.

This scanner is compact when folded, unobtrusive when opened to ‘ready’ mode. The paper trays for both input and output fold up to cover portions of the scanner so it protects the paper path from dust and other foreign debris while stored.

For higher volume users, having user-replaceable rollers is a major asset as it allows for consumers to do most of the major maintenance on the scanner negating the need of a costly & time consuming service call for roller or paper path cleaning/repair.

The software was not provided in the box, but Windows users are directed to the Epson site to download the driver/application software bundle from there. Windows 10 did initially recognize it as a scanner, but the proper driver was installed once the Epson package was downloaded and ran.

Document Capture Pro as well as a couple of Epson branded utilities are provided to ensure that scanning items into PDFs or other archival types such as. tiff or. jpg is a painless process. Setting up and configuring the software packages to run with this scanner was quite easy & required little to no configuration.

The default scanning presets should be more than adequate for almost everyone’s usage scenarios. I have not configured the scanner to sit on my wireless network for multiple PC access just yet, but that is a capability worthy of further exploration.

Overall the scanner has made a very positive impression on me and I will hope to enjoy years of use from it.

Unboxing EPSON WorkForce ES 500W Scanner – We are small business where me and my husband deal with alot of bill of landing, work logs,fuel receipts etc. This came handy as now i can easily scan all that paper work and easily access from my windows computer.

This Scanner worked as advertised and it is ENERGY STAR certified device. It doesnt take much space in the office which is nice vs other office scanners. Setup was easy and easy to read through the manual instructions.

EPSON ES500W can scan uptp 50 pages if though the Aoto document feeder which is very efficient. The feeder of this document works very well. I have tried to scan different type of documents including paper, photos, business cards, and receipts.

All worked consistently with double-sided scanning. It is compatible with almost all the Cloud storage apps like FROPBOX,Google Drive and you can easily save a document and share with who ever you need to.

Its like a smart Scanner no more warm up time needed for this bad boy. This unit comes with ABBYY FineReader Sprint which is compatible with PC users only but Mac OS users may install OCR software. When compared with EPSON ES400 only feature difference is connectivity and price which is 50$ more vs ES400 This device EPSON ES500 W comes with wifi connectivity which is a BIG plus.

Being able to scan directly to the cloud or phone. If you have used EPson in the past it is definitely a Big boost to the speed. I would Highly recommended if you have a lot of document, photos, or business cards to digitized.

I ordered the DS410 online from Costco a week ago and received my unit 2 days ago. This unit is great right out of the box! Very compact, with simple easy connections. I had the scanner out of the box, installed and scanning in 10 minutes.

Scan to PDF is great for record keeping and the duplex 2-sided scanning is fast and simple to use! The scan are crisp and sharp and fast. Epson has done a great job with this scanner and I expect a long life and high quality operation base on Epson great reputation for reliability.

I found a good deal on this scanner when I needed to scan 1,000 pages and absolutely would not even try it with my flatbed scanner one page at a time. I unboxed this DS-410 and had it scanning pages in minutes.

The software is easy to use and the quality of scans is fantastic. I’m mesmerized just sitting here watching paper shoot through it like it’s nothing.

This scanner has made working from home so much better. I scan a large amount of documents daily and this has really helped me speed up the process. I was able to install the software super easily and everything went smoothly.

I did not have any issues at all. My experience level with software is above average so I can’t speak for all regarding the install. I can’t brag enough about the 60 page auto document feeder. I can place all the documents and it automatically scans them in page by page and I can work on other stuff I have to do in the process.

Gives me a lot of freedom not having to sit and scan page by page manually. All documents are easily stored on my computer and ready to send. It has never jammed on me or distorted any images. It’s been really cool to use.

It is sleek and sits in my home office great. I like how compact it is and doesn’t take up much room. Hands down the best scanner I’ve had to use in my five years at home.

This is my first desktop scanner like this. I am very impressed. Scanning went super fast. Very light and compact. Can adjust size for different documents. Can also do double sided scanning. I purposely jammed it, but unlike when printers get jammed, this was so easy to unjam.

I can’t imagine going back to my flatbed for documents anymore. There are some negatives I found which is why I didn’t give it 5 stars. Installation and setup was not so easy. There is no digital screen and the buttons other than the power button aren’t very clear.

You have to download both drivers and then the app to get everything going. However the instructions don’t really mention all this. So kind of had to figure it out on my own other than being directed to the website to find the drivers.

The Brother Scanner 3100 is great, I love how fast it scans my documents and how it only takes 1 Scan for it to go through and does front to back. Super easy to setup and good for home and office use.

This is a basic scanner. I say basic because it scans your receipts and documents fast and effectively. Can load up to about 60 pages for first scan at once. Super easy to install and everything is included to get you started.

This model connects with computer or mobile device with cord. Cord for mobile is not included but the one for computer is desktop or laptop is compatible. Super happy with this scanner and love how fast and simple it is to have your front to back document’s uploaded.

I honestly haven’t seen a fast scanner as quick as this one.

I love the product as I used to remove the spine in order to scan books. Now, I only have to flip the books before I can scan them. No more book spine removals. There are two more suggestions for it to be perfect.

1. The finger removal function using the thumb press is not yet perfected as I can see traces of yellow on the scanned pages when I use it to press down the pages. If the Czur support can look it into it and improve the software in the next version, it’ll be perfect.

2. When scanning magazines, the software may find dark pages difficult to recognise and crop certain sections of the pages. However, when you place it against a white background, it can scan easily. Perhaps the software or the given black mat can be taken into account when the next version is sold.

I have only had the Czur E16 Plus for a few hours; but, I have already been more productive scanning in antique books in my collection than I have in all my previous years of doing so. The online help is excellent and the designers of this product have thought of all the pitfalls involved in scanning bound books and large documents, including unnatural distortions, etc.

Years ago, I tried to scan in 60 plus years of the history of a firehouse using an Epson large format scanner and a Canon document scanner. I never quite finished because the process was so clumsy and time consuming.

Now, I feel confident that I finally have the right tool for such a huge undertaking and plan to go back to finish the job. The foot switch and all the auto-processing will take a huge part of the drudgery out of it.

And, the OCR capabilities will let me combine associated documents into single, searchable PDF files. I love this thing.

This is the scanner I have waited years to find. It works perfectly with my MacBook Pro and I am greatly impressed. I have tried no less than a dozen other scanners over the years but none had the ability to really work with my Mac.

This CZUR ET16 does! I can’t speak on how it does for Windows, but if it is terrific for Mac, it must be as good or better for PC Windows users. It is well built – sturdy and solid. All the accessories were well-made and thoughtfully packaged.

Downloading the Mac software went easily. I was up and scanning my first book in about 15 minutes from the time I opened the well-designed box it came in. Everything is great. I got a great price on e-bay and the entire transaction was terrific.

I totally recommend this one for Mac owners who have a lot of books they want to scan into a portable e-book library. Forget about any other scanner – this is the one you want to get!.

The Brother ADS2200 is exactly what I require while working at home during Covid lockdowns. Ihave a multi purpose machine which can only flat scan one page at a time. The office I work in is cloud based and paperless and I have need to scan 100 pages as a job is finished.

they were accumulating in a box ready for my return to the office post lockdown where there is access to large commercial scanners. This ADS2200 is awesome. Easy to set up and use, compact so utilises minimum room on my desk, and allows an easy save to my computer.

handles 50 pages at a time with ease. Totally recommend this product.

We bought this for personal use. I have been scanning old tax returns, mail, files, you name it and then shredding. We have rid ourselves of so much paper clutter! It does require an additional purchase of USB-C to USB 2.

0 Type B to get it to hook up to my MacBook Pro laptop but works great. It automatically Scans front and back and then automatically eliminates any blank pages. It’s fast too. I don’t know how many pages the feeder maxes out on because I just put about 30 pages on and then add on as it goes.

I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS: Right from the packaging I was excited to see that this scanner provided high-speed color scanning, and it supported Windows, Mac, and Linux, which is definitely a plus for home office or business use.

It also does duplex scanning, which scored points for me, and it has a space saving design too, which is very handy no matter where you plan to use it. ASSEMBLY: The actual assembly of the scanner itself was simple.

Getting set-up accomplished. not so much. What the box failed to disclose was you needed a USB cable and would be required to tether the scanner to your desktop computer. Or, in my case, since we only use laptops in our home, I needed to bring my laptop to where I was setting up the scanner, connect them, and each time I needed to scan something, I would have to repeat the process by bringing the laptop to the scanner and attaching the USB cable to my laptop.

The box did not notify me this model could not connect to the network. Also, the instructions provided with the unit are pretty sparse. Not that you can`t figure them out, but I admit it took me a couple pass-through`s to get it straight, and I`m no dummy.

I did figure out that I needed to go to the Brother website to download the full set-up and driver software, but once I completed the download, I was left with a screen filled with files. I don`t know if it was just my computer or what – I am running Windows 10, 64 bit – but nothing autoran to do the installation, so I took a guess and chose MainInst and luckily was correct.

That opened another window filled with files and once again I took a guess by checking Start and luckily was again correct. That finally got the installation running. PERFORMANCE: Once I had gone to the store and purchased my USB cable and then returned home to run through the installation, I began testing out scans.

I tried scanning photos from my albums, documents, letters, and receipts/ticket stubs I found around the house. All came out beautifully, and very quickly! They sent to the correct scan folder easily, and I didn`t seem to have many issues with document feeding (paper jams).

The machine was quiet and very smooth. It was very nice being able to utilize the software from my computer to manipulate the scanning and saving features, and to make changes as necessary for different items I scanned.

I much prefer this to utilizing buttons on the scanner, though since I had to move my laptop directly to the scanner each time I needed to use it, I suppose a button on the scanner to start the scan may have been useful as well, though not a necessity.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: I think this is a very good scanner for a home office where networking is not a necessity. Personally I think the price point is set a bit high for this item. It certainly does do a good job scanning documents and keeping them organized, but I feel there are other products out there that do just as good for much less, and they are also networked.

Perhaps this might be an item for possible improvement or addition in future models. I also feel the setup instructions could be improved so that they autorun on all interfaces.

Admittedly, I was very nervous about this purchase as the price is on the high end for a scanner. However, knowing that it works with QuickBooks and my other software programs, and had a high page capacity I decided to go ahead and give it a try.

I am thrilled with this machine and everything it can do. So easy to set up, I opted for wireless and got right up and going. It does everything the description says and has sped up my total work time many times over.

Super fast, nice options on scans, import features to QuickBooks and Excel is awesome. It also came with an optional free feature for business card scanning with the OCR reader. I can’t say enough good things.

Excellent heavy duty packaging and fast shipping as well. Thank you for not letting me down on this purchase!.

On two computers, the software failed to install, claiming there was no connection to the internet although the computers are always on the internet including the partial installation of the ES-500WR software.

The scanner was returned to a local Staples store, and an ES-400 was obtained – lucky me the last one in three stores ! – for use at home, it being the same model I have at the office. In the best of circumstances, the extra price for the ES-500WR and its wireless aspect does not justify its much greater cost.

If you want to use my opinion, you have permission to use all of it or just the last paragraph, which may be more in line with your objectives.

i absolutely love the Epson. Easy to use. Quick and Convenient. I scan alot of my clients receipts and paperwork and Epson makes it so easy. I was using a different scanner for the past 10 years and this one has made keeping organized even easier.

Shipper is OUTSTANDING! The scanner arrived well protected and in immaculate condition. The scanner works well with multiple pages. It lives up to its reputation. The scanner software is not as easy to navigate.

There are way to many buttons to click to adjust from paper type to color adjustments. Simply, I dont find it very user friendly. I should have listened to the reviews and looked for another option. Hope this helps.

I purchased this duplex multipage feed scanner to replace the Epson DS-510 scanner I previously used at a different employer. For speed, ease of use, and resolution this scanner is equal to or better than the Epson.

The problem I ran into was finding driver or software, as it appears that Fujitsu no longer supports this. I find downloads, but none of them work correctly. I ended up purchasing for $89 the full version of VueScan x64, which operates the scanner great without the need for Fujitsu drivers.

These two products together work great, although I didn’t want to spend the extra $89.

In my country malaysia, getting a scanner like Fujistu Fi-6130 is a great challenge. No reseller here. I guess it is a great product if you use it for document scan. Won’t be that great if you use it for graphic scan because it doesn’t have software feature that can control the lpi for magazine quality or if you are very particular of scanning your graphic at particular dpi or for scanning only a particular section of a page.

Anyhow, I scanned a dictionary of 1950 pages as trial-run and it did that in 25 minutes duplex mode. That was less than half-hour job! Of course the feeder can only take 200 pages at time. Great if you use it for document scan and even better if you have VRS installed.

I suggest for first timer, just install the driver (a small file in the scandall CD) and Kofax VRS. I find Fujistu ScandAll Pro and ScanAll useless when VRS software is used which can be accessed by right-clicking anywhere on the Windows desktop.

For those considering to buy one, please ensure that the Kofax VRS CD AND ACROBAT (FULL VERSION) are included. Acrobat full version is very different from Acrobat Reader. Mine is Version 7. 0 and it has the feature of converting scan text into text format which reduces the size of scanned pdf files greatly (albeit some text errors, example, ‘m’ is interpreted as ‘rn’ at times).

Fi-6140 (the older model) comes with all the features of Fi-6130 but it has an additional scsci interface other than a USB and a higher scan speed than Fi-6130. It should have VRS and Acrobat Full version CD as standard as well(although maybe at a lower version number).

(Make sure you check with whoever you buy provide these two CDs, VRS and Acrobat Full Version and version number). The only regret is that I did not buy Fi-6230 which has a flat-bed for ease of scanning books.

Else, I have no regret with Fi-6130. Fi-6140 is faster but it won’t make much difference for a home user like me. But i believe it should be faster by 20%. It’s odd that Fujistu packed more features on older model (fi-6140).

fi-6140 also comes with some paper jam protection that minimise risk of torn paper coming out of the scanner – a feature fi-6130 does not have.
