20 Best Saw For Cutting Molding (2023 Updated)

This is by far the best circular saw on the market. I had the heavier steel version for about 20 years, using it on a daily basis. Decided to go with the lighter, magnesium deck version when it was time to replace it and cant believe how much lighter it is.

Ive used almost every brand of circular saw and this is without a doubt the very best one. I do property management maintenance, so I use my saws a lot! I absolutely beat them to death and the saw is absolutely a beast! Love that they provided a Diablo blade with it, its the one I use all the time.

Highly recommend for someone who needs a saw that they can depend on!.

Many would say this about this saw, “What can I say, its a Skilsaw!”, but this bad boy is much more than a circular saw, its a go getter. Most buy a wormdrive for cutting store-bought lumber and plywood and maybe some MDF.

That was my plan as well, but as it turns out, the first major project that I had to do before the weather got hot, I had to cut up several large piles of tree branches ranging from 2 to 5 inches across.

All my tools, including the chain saw was wearing out, blades getting thin and so forth. The only choice that I had was my battery powered circular saw or my new Skilsaw wormdrive. The batteries drained too fast when cutting the branches and this was from a top rated battery circular saw.

So, I was down to my last option, plug in the Skilsaw. WOW. I mean, WOW! This saw cut the branches as if they were butter and I am NOT kidding. In no time, I had gone through all the branches cutting in sizes of about a foot to a foot and half for firewood.

This was some hard wood too. Not only am I impressed, but I am in love with this saw. I have used many Skilsaws wormdrives back in the 80s when I was a journeyman carpenter. These saws were heavy, but still an excellent brand of saws.

I am very pleased with my new saw. My next project is to build a 4x8x8 workbench. This saw is on the short list of tools that I will be using. I love this thing.

My father built all the Frank Lloyd Wright homes in New York State. He even got to work on the falls in Pennsylvania for three weeks as a young apprentice. Ever since I was a kid, I can remember his powerful and heavy Skil saw worm drive.

When I was on his job sites, thats what I ran. It cut all day and never broke down. You just have to keep up with the oil and keep a sharp blade on the machine. It will outlive you. The new ones, although made in China, or lighter and in many ways stronger because its magnesium instead of aluminum.

Just try not to drop it. Theres no Saul like this one.

This is a nice saw, makes cuts easily and isn’t to heavy. I know it doesn’t run as fast as a corded one but that’s the sacrifice you make for it, very impressed except for the one flaw. I have the same issue another reviewer had, the marks on the base plate for following a line are out, the one to follow is at least an eighth of an inch wrong so when I mark a line for the cut I then have to mark another line at least one eighth of an inch along side it to follow, its stupid.

Not sure if its worth keeping or to return as I like the unit itself. The saw runs evenly,smooth and didn’t kill my battery straight away which I was honestly expecting, the cut is good and even. it also makes sense as I already have craftsman tools to keep to that line as I have the batteries except for the incorrect marking.

I now have a decision to make so not sure which way to go but will probably keep it.

I am blown away by the performance and ease of use from this circular saw! I bought it mainly to use when I just needed to make a few quick cuts. Now it is my go to saw for all my projects and I have not touched my corded in several months.

I have cut just about everything possible with this saw. Multiple sheets of plywood are no problem to cut in one pass. This saw checks all the right boxes! The blade is easy to change, it has detent clicks at 22.

5 and 45 degrees for the miter angle and the depth is easy to change. I also like the fact that whole saw is narrower than my older corded one. It fits into tighter places and works well when using it against a guide fence.

This saw has proven that cords are becoming obsolete! With two 4AH batteries and one fast charger I have been able to work without interruption through every project I have has so far.

This saw is poorly designed. The supporting structure in the rear relies solely on very thin bracket which doubles as the depth guide. The same thin metal is used on the front support as well. The metal flexes too easily and cause the blade to have too much “heel” when trying to crosscut resulting in an angled cut and burns.

The blade bearing also allow too much side wobble. The saw is advertised as 15 amp. It falls way short on power. Compared to 15 amp Milwaukee 7 1/4″ , it fails big time. Craftsman quality has deteriorated.

50 years ago Craftsman was a respected brand. Not so much now.

If you want a big one this is the boy for you !!!! Very powerful cuts through solid worktop like butter adjustable depth cut all what you. Need and more only disappointment I have is that it did not come with a case !!!.

I bought this saw a year and a half ago. As a typical residential carpenter/contractor I didn’t have too much use for the saw, but “when you need it-there’s no substitute” (deep cuts). I have used and abused many 7&1/4 and 10&1/4″ circular saws.

This saw seemed to fail far too early and catastrophically in its work-life to be expectable wear. 100′ 10ga S. O. cord in a 20amp outlet. Ripping a 4″ “soft-maple” mantle 8’long. At the initial trigger pull all was normal.

2 feet in the brushes started sounding sparky, (“just finish the cut and then go buy some new brushes. “). 4 feet in the motor vent starts shooting smoke and flames and the trigger is stuck in the “on” position.

I held the saw firmly in place with one hand (trigger stuck “on”- no trigger mechanism failure; circuit seemingly welded closed). I then had to wrap the cord around my free forearm enough to be able to step on the extension cord and pull the plug.

After I had put the saw buckled into its provided holder -with the blade guard down- I plugged the saw back in. The motor is still stuck “on”, but the motor still rotates. I haven’t had the time to troubleshoot further or pull the saw apart to try a repair.

I otherwise love this saw -the power, the ergonomics, the provided holder. I WOULD NOT recommend buying/using this saw without a pair of replacement brushes immediately on hand.

This saw is powerful and cuts like a dream. Its performance far outweighed my expectations. The Super Sawsquatch cuts clean without chipping. The blade guides make it easy to ensure you are staying on your cut line.

Also, it comes with an attachable base so you never have to set your saw on the floor or ground. This saw is heavy but manageable. I am very pleased with this purchase.

My rating is preliminary. I have cut timbers for set of timber trusses. The saw is a bit noisy compared to Makita. It has sufficient power and the sole plate is great, much better than Makitas. I have had same size Makitas for almost 40 years.

Remarkable stamina but shoddy sole plates and is direct drive with blade on wrong hand for me. Happy to have Skil but the test is how long it will run. I have had a Skil 7 1/4 since 1965 and it never faltered.

As professional builder I use power saws a lot. I have 20 circular saws. The Bosch as Skil actually showed some improvements in design and has held up. I will write more after I have cut out this 50X70 roof and the rest of timberframe shop.

Skil beam saw will be first line of action cutting all green Lutz spruce, 6X8 through 12. Happy with saw so far.

First I would like to state that I could not find a lot picture of this saw from different angles on the web so I took some in case people are wondering to to expect. This saw comes with a blade, a Blade wrench (It’s an L wrench) and rip fence.

It looks and feels like solid and well crafted. There two thing different from other saws 1. It uses an L wrench in instead of the standard wrench 2. The cord is place on the side instead of the top.

3. It has a 10 foot cord. This differences it’s matter of people getting used to them. For the price and the quality this a very good deal that one should not pass. Compare the same saw to other places that are selling it (like wal-mart) it’s well over $ 50.

Nice saw, but not happy with packaging. Came in original box showing what was in it and it was open. No packing, Styrofoam, cardboard or bags in it. Doesn’t appear anything is missing. Nice saw though.

Dust collection works much much better if the suggestion made by the manual is followed i. e. have the depth of cut set a little deeper than the thickness of the material and have the blade cutting continuously into the material the Hardie is lying on.

I used old celotex sheathing I tore off the walls of the remodel to back the cut. It was free and it gave very little resistance to the blade, unlike plywood or OSB which I tried at first. I would buy new fiberboard in the future if I had none on the job.

It made that much of a difference. Saw and blade track very were and the cuts were cleaner and much more accurate than I expected. While dust collection is not quite as good as on my friend’s Makita cement board saw, I could see my work much better with the Skil, and was able to get better cuts.

Ripped 8’long 3/4 thick hardie trim pieces on a bevel, using a straightedge guide, and got a very good result. I prefer left hand and worm saws, but the righthand sidewinder format worked just fine.

I’ve been building for over 40 years and have tried a lot of different tools to cut concrete siding. Not one has satisfied my expertise. I purchased my sidewinder sliksaw and was really impressed with how well it keeps the dust to a minimum plus with good smooth cuts.

I am going to start out by stating I will never go back to using a sawzall or knife. The saw was everything I expected it to be in a fiber cement saw. It was hard getting used to having a hose connected to the saw, (since I have never used a saw with a hose before) however I got used to it.

Also I noticed that having a good vacuum is needed to get the dust from going into the air. I ended up using several different types of concrete board and I never had an issue cutting. Angle cuts as well as beveled cuts seems to be just as easy as the straight cuts.

There is no question that if you are needed to cut fiber cement to any amount of quantity then you should consider buy this saw.

First circular saw that I’ve used where I’ve been able to cut a straight line across the width of a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood without having to stop. Good powed.

Lightweight and filled with easy to use adjustments. No tools needed to set angle and depth. Built in blade lock a plus. Handle is comfortable and adds stability to cut.

Product well made, powerful, however be aware that handling while using is awkward, I suspect that this type of build are all same. Even though my hand is on the smaller size, to grip trigger switch while pressing in the safety and gripping round saw body is very awkward.

Prolonged use might result in carpal tunnel syndrome. The saw’s body is on the thicker dimension due to a more powerful motor. If someone is looking for a easy to handle saw they might want to seriously explore the traditional top handle build with trigger in the handle, I have been using saws for over 35 years and like to be able to do all sorts positions which I find with this saw very difficult due to type of build, this may also be a little bit of safety issue.

For it’s size saw has plenty of power very pleased with that feature. Had considered returning saw but will keep and add to my collection of hand saws. Product arrived with all advertised articles and well packed.

For what it’s worth, from a professional carpenter.

This is a tough saw. I put a porter cable blade on it and set about cutting plywood, trim, shelving, mdf, and all sorts of stuff. Iam notoriously rough on tools sort of like the American Tourister Gorilla was to suitcases.

This saw has a good bevel and safety cover. Accurate notch to align and a laser that works and produces a deep red line. The only part I do not like is that the laser is battery powered, uses hearing aid style batteries, and it kills the batteries.

I used this saw on a project of cutting trim , shelves, and plywood for 3 days. Cut 400ft of trim, cut shelving for 20 book cases , and cut shelves for cases. 3 days and went through 3 sets of batteries.

For a casual user this is not a problem. Cut a few boards and go away. unfortunate because this tough little saw will cut all day long and is worth every penny except for the laser.

I was skeptical at first because the saw was not a well known brand. I took a leap of faith and bought it. The packaging was adequate, and the was some extras in it. Once I used it it surprised me, with the amount of power it has.

The blades are very simple and easy to change, but I was surprised by the stability it has when you are cutting a line. Smooth, and clean. Your blades will matter, and there is a laser if thats your thing.

Really you wont need it, this saw makes it easy to stay true to your mark. My only gripe it the dust port. I really wish it was positioned in the rear. Other than that small detail this is a must buy.
