20 Best Sausage For Shrimp Boil (2023 Updated)

Slap Ya Mama is so good that it makes you want to do what the title suggests, but you better think twice. I love to mix this with my Louisiana products because it gives it a distinct flavor.

This is hands down the BEST seafood boil Ive ever used. I used the cajun seasoning for years, but when it came time to boil some crawfish, shrimp, and snow crab legs. I knew I had to try this boil! So perfect, so flavorful, and I will be using it again!.

Well, I like this seasoning. I put it in my crab boiled, I wish yall had the one with the butter already in it. Just a subjection….

The closest I’ve found, off the shelf to the fresh ground Italian sausage I ordered from the butcher years ago. The Pandemic has really impacted Sausage production & I have been unable to purchase Italian Sausage from any company at any of my local stores in nearly a year.

I am hoping that changes. I tend to mix it 1 sausage to 1 lean hamburger for Spaghetti or 1 sausage to 2 hamburger for Meatloaf, but I’ll use it straight up for additional pizza toppings, quiche, frittata, breakfast burritos or even biscuits & gravy.

Nearly 60 years of Italian sausage being THE only flavor of sausage we truly like the best. Growing up in a rural agricultural area with long cold winters, stocking up was the norm. We often placed orders for 50 pounds of pork sausage with the local butcher, almost always Italian.

rarely a mild chorizo & that was usually venison rather than pork. I have family members that live continents away who still make their own Italian Sausage <3.

Jimmy Deans maple sausage is THE BEST on the market. It is the only sausage i can get my kids to eat and pairs perfectly with biscuits and gravy, so much so that we wont eat it with any other kind of sausage.

I dont understand why it has been discontinued. Both in Florida and Georgia, they would fly off the shelves and you were lucky if you found it. So im not sure why you say it didn’t sell much. And even so, if the demand wasnt as high in certain areas, you could have cut back in just those stores, instead of taking it away from everyone, everywhere.

Or maybe advertise it? I see commercials for Jimmy Dean sausage all the time, but not sure Ive ever seen one for the maple. Ive eaten maple sausage since i was a kid, and i fell in love with it. The taste just feels like home to me.

And based on these comments, im definitely not the only one! Please reconsider bringing back your maple sausage!! We miss it so much!!.

I’ve been a Jimmy Dean bulk Sausage consumer for years, usually breakfast patties, sometime as an ingredient. So the Wife brings home this Sage stuff for a recipe, doesn’t end up doing it so I’m using it for breakfast.

First problem you can’t make patties out of the stuff. It’s like ground beef that’s too lean, it brakes apart. When you try to ball it up to start the patty all kinds of liquid squeezes out. This is nothing like the perfect little patties you get from the regular sausage.

Second problem, I have never see so much Water or some kind of liquid cook out of a sausage patty. I had the entire pound broken up into eight really bad looking patties and there must have been a half cup of Water I had to cook off before the browning could begin.

And finally the flavor was undesirable, that’s all I can say. Wasn’t horrible, wasn’t good. Maybe this stuff works better as an ingredient, I don’t know. I will caveat this comment by saying that the use by date was two months ago.

But it was frozen the entire time. The wife does this all the time, brings it home and straight in the freezer until we want it. I have never before had an issue with Jimmy Dean that was past the use by date that had been frozen, never even given it a second thought.

I sure hope there’s no more of this in the freezer.

I buy Earl Campbell’s hot links so regularly that I should buy stocks in the company. My Walmart supermarket has not had them in stock for a few weeks. This never happens so my anxiety is almost unbearable.

Brown them up in my cast iron on the cooktop or in the oven. Then eat with homemade bread is so satisfying when I don’t have the time or energy for anything else. Or eat with eggs and hash browns. Or eat with dutch baby pancakes.

It’s a travesty to not have any in the freezer. I’m disabled and fixed income so this is a staple because it is the only meat I can afford regularly.

Love these things, I have been eating different hot links for a long time. These are pretty dang tasty. Is it cheap sausage. Sure. Is it like bologna in a casing,,,Sure. That is what makes a Red Cased Hot Link.

There are tons of better quality, actual Sausage Hot links and Jalapeno Sausage, But they are 3 times the cost and just not the same if you are wanting a Red Hot. Just good tasting cheap Red Hot that once you start on em, you will crave em.

If you want a good ole comfort food to have with a beer, this is it, but dont think you will win a BBQ cookoff with it.

Taste great! Texture is good. Not too gristly like some sausages. We love these. We normally get sold extra spicy ones but these have a good amount of spice. They’re good after you freeze them too, so we usually buy a big pack and freeze some for later!.

You either like this or hate it. I like to keep a couple cans on hand for variety. If you are expecting Jimmy D sausage, you’ll be horrified. This is more of a meat paste with a unique flavor. I fry mine to death (literally fry the you know what out of it), add a can of cubed potatoes and a bit of minced onion, salt and pepper to taste, for sort of a hash.

Then crack a couple eggs over the top, cover, cook eggs to just over easy, add two splashes of Tx. Pete, devour. Sometimes I also fry it up and make a milk gravy with it and put it over rice or grits or biscuits.

Bottom line, the can art really confuses people, and has probably lost more customers for the product. If you stick with it, you can get a decent variety in your breakfast. A true southern breakfast, that was much more popular 50 years ago.

This is not whole hog pork sausage. This is beef sausage made with the organs tripe (stomach) beef, beef hearts, etc. It does not smell or look like pork sausage because it is not pork sausage. It is truly amazing served with cream gravy either loosely fried or mixed with a egg and made into patties.

Warning: put a little oil in pan and cook slowly if making patties. Trying to cook this quickly will scorch the egg and cause the patties to fall apart.

I saw this on the top shelf today and purchased it just to see what it was all about. I mixed it with an egg as the label suggested and placed it in a skillet. It never solidified and stuck to the bottom.

Now my whole condo smells like hot ALPO. It went straight into the garbage, as the smell was atrocious and nauseating. This perhaps may be palatable if nothing else was left on the planet to eat, but right now it belongs in the pet section.

If you need something for camping, buy a can of beef with gravy for $1 more. This experience just made me a vegetarian O_0.

When I was young boy, we used to visit my aunt in New Orleans (pronounced “nyawlins”) in the summer and I always looked forward to a feast of gulf shrimp and blue crabs that we caught ourselves on the bayou south of the city.

Zatarains is THE crab & shrimp boil. My aunt would spin in her grave if I used anything else! Directions: Heavily salt the water, add Zatarains (according to directions on bottle), and marinate the shrimp and/or crabs for about 30 Minutes.

Then heat the water to a boil (about 15 minutes) and pour into a colandar, cool, and serve! God Bless!.

This stuff is good if you’re making a crab boil. I usually will just use the Old Bay seasoning as this can be very hard to find. I also find that sometimes it seems like it does not add enough flavor as I would like.

It’s easy to go through a whole bottle depending on how many people are coming to the boil.

Zatarain’s is a must when poaching seafood or fish. Imparts a great slight flavor that doesn’t change the flavor of the fish or seafood. Great price as well.

I come from Algeria and lived also in France. These are the worst merguez I ever tasted. We bought 4 packs = 24. We ate a few, we were 4 adults, dis arded the rest. We have still 12 in the freezer and we do not know what to wirh that.

I hate to be so negative but this my review. I did myself some merguez they taste far better than the one you sell. i think you not put any fat, the taste and smell of lamb are very strong and when cook that the results is not good.

Try to make a trip to Paris, France or to North Africa, Algeria for example and you will understand what I am talking about. I wish your company good luck, I am sure you can do far better than that.

Only lamb. The merguez I used to eat are beef+lamb. So I’m a little bit disappointed because the lamb taste is really strong and gamey.

I bought the merguez along with other products but the sausages were far from the flavor I ate in France, My thinking is that maybe they were in the freezer for a longtime but I already received an email telling me that the product was not in the freezer for long time.

The seasoning was different too and I believe that makes a big difference.

Just made a batch of fresh Garlic Pepper Bratwurst out of some goose I had harvested over the weekend. All I can say is amazing! For those who are not the biggest goose fans, use this kit to make sausages and your life will be forever changed.

I will save up my goose meat until I have enough to make big batches of these and then toss them in the freezer.

I tried the German Sausage kit. I used 100% lean ground pork, next time I am going to add 30% deer. I found the taste a little bland but still very good. The next time I am going to add some garlic powder and ground pepper to spice it up a bit.

I also smoked it in my home made fridge smoker. All in all I am happy the way it turned out.

I’m on my fifth year with these kits and enjoy working with them easy to use and you can cut spices and cure to your liking and taste. They’re good enough that I still have 5 ahead. Smoking them over applewood after is just the icing on the cake.

I’m going to give this review an extra star because what I’m about to say has a lot to do with the cooking method used (it is meant for boil and I pressure cooked mine). The ingredients suggest adding a lemon quartered to the mix, I did and I feel it gave a bitter taste due to the rind mixed with the seeds used in the mixture of Zatarains.

If I ever use this again, I will try it with boil rather than PC and maybe add lemon juice AFTER the food has been cooked, only adding this seasoning and lemon to the seafood – NOT the veggies. I tried to make a Texas boil in my ninja foodi cooker; adding this product to a little seasoned salt, butter, lemon, crab legs, shrimp, potatoes, a few slices of fresh jalapeno, onion, garlic, mushrooms, corn and carrots, +1 C water (next time I’d use more water as it suggests).

I pressure cooked it for about 4 mins with a natural release for 2 mins, then quick release. It looked delicious and directions say give it a stir, I did and the package broke apart in the food. I scooped most of it out but quite a few seeds lingered behind.

It tasted fine on the crab and gave the corn a spicy kick, but the other bits of meat and veggies really absorbed the flavor and it was a little overbearing. The seeds were sticking to our carrots, corn and potatoes, I had to kind of force myself to eat it.

It was very strong with the shrimp, also. My husband ate some of it as leftovers today but felt it wasted $30+ worth of seafood. It was honestly a little bitter between the lemon and coriander seeds, too much citrus and I didn’t even use a whole lemon.

I’m assuming it’s great just with seafood, boiled as mentioned. But terrible in a pressure cooker, way too much flavor and not in a good way. I’m more of a fan of other seasonings out there. It’s affordable and easy to use especially considering it is meant for a one time use, convenient for travel.

The flavor is amazing I do love the convenience too. Just add the bag and that’s great. ! However $7. 99 is very expensive for one bag. I thought it would be more bags was confused with the label. I ordered 6 bags on one box before and it was only $12 now it’s $8.

Also the bag busted out and there’s contents spilled out. Other than that love love love this for seafood boil.

This is by far a family and friend favorite Brat. The spice/ meat ratio is perfect. The brat remains juicy after cooking and not dry. You actually know you’re eating meat vs other brats that you think is a mystery meat! 😊 I always boil mine in beer and onions, then toss on the grill for 5 minutes to make the grill marks.

Then I put the onions from the boil on top! Perfect meal!.

I am from Texas and we never ate brats until about 25 years ago when my work friend from Sheboygan Wisconsin invited us over for a BBQ. He was a Yankee but still good people as Yankees go. We were expecting hot dogs and burgers but were taken back when nothing but Johnsonville original brats were on the menu.

After a very tense taste test believing I might be about to taste something disgusting it was love at first bite. I litteraly could not get enough and could have eaten everything on the grill. Since that day I never fill a shopping cart without two or three packs of Johnsonville original brats.

I made the mistake of ordering a brat in Germany but immidiatley regretted it and missed the perfection that is Johnsonville. As for that Yankee he is now my oldest and dearest friend and we have began to grow old together.

I’m not sure I can credit Johnsonville original brats for the entire friendship but you were there at the beginning and will be until the end. We have made a million memories at our frequent brat bques as we now call them.

I love Johnsonville Italian Mild Sausage for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I also like it cooked on the BBQ, broiled in the oven, and on the stovetop pan fried. I like the mild Italian Sausage more than I like the hot variety.

The pork sausage is made with mild Italian spices. I have removed the pork from the skins and used the ground pork in my lasagna and my spaghetti sauce when I want to add that extra bit of flavor to my Italian cuisine.

I like that the package comes with directions for cooking as well as nutritive value. They are quite high in Sodim, cholesterol and saturated fat, however; I figure if I have them occasionally I am not doing my body any harm.

I also like that Johnsonville is a name that you can trust to give you a quality product. I like that there are so many side dishes that go well with Johnsonville Italian Mild Sausages. I have even been kind enough to share with my pooches who also adore Johnsonville Italian Mild Sausage.

I would recommend Johnsonville Mild Italian Sausages to any meat eater that enjoys a juicy flavorful Sausage.

I received a sample in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own. We used Andouille sausage in our mac and cheese. The product was yummy and of the quality I expect from the Johnsonville brand.

When I think of Andouille sausage, I usually associate a bit more heat to go along with all the flavor in the spices. We sampled the sausage beforehand and just added a little extra heat in the form of some spices to our mac and cheese.

Nothing wrong with the product, just not the heat level I have tasted in other products. Another quality Johnsonville product that I would purchase again in the future.

Received this sausage compliments of Ripplestreet in exchange for honest opinion and review. Myself and most of my party guest enjoyed the taste of this sausage. I did have one guest complain that it was “too spicy”.

In my opinion this sausage was not spicy. I chose to pan sear my sausage which took under 7 minutes probably. The texture was great and I definitely think this sausage could be used in a array of dishes or be just fine served as is by itself.

I would purchase this sausage again in future, however I would only do so if on sale. I paid $5. 59 for this package and I definitely think that is too expensive, plus the $10 I was given to host and purchase food didn’t even come close to purchaing the mac and cheese plus 2 packs of sausages I got.

I made a mac-n-cheese recipe that I found off the internet, but them somewhat morphed it because I wanted to include peppers. This recipe will now become a staple. the andouille smoked sausage really added to this being so much more than just a mac-n-cheese; this was truly a meal.

I felt this sausage had just the right kick to really liven up the mac-n-cheese. There was nothing but meat in this sausage, no fillers, no chunks of stuff like other sausages try when packed. It was easy to cook, easy to pair.

It was a hearty meal.

THIS IS THE BEST SAUSAGE!!! Ever since another store removed their skinless sausage I looked for a similar one. This has a good hot flavor and is not hard to chew. It is a little greasy but if slit open and boiled it is great.

Then boil pasta in the sausage water and mmmm mmmmm. I recommend this sausage to everyone.

I have tried several brands, and this is by far my favorite. I recommended Cajun Style Andouille Sausage to my son, hairdresser and cousin. Now it’s their favorite for gumbo and jambalaya. The sausage was hard to find after the pandemic lockdown ended therefore, I keep at least 5 packs in my freezer.

I stumbled upon this sausage when making red beans and rice. The flavor profile of it was perfect to take my meal to the next level. It was a family favorite. Since the first time, I have gone back to multiple stores looking for it to make another delicious pot of red beans and they are GONE! I wish I would have purchased multiple packages, but I had no clue that the stock on this flavor is inconsistent.

I made my most recent pot with the beef smoked sausage and it did absolutely nothing for the dish.

I mainly use this to supplement lean meat in a chili recipe. For instance, I use 1 pound of Johnsonville ground chorizo to 2-3 lbs of ground turkey. The turkey keeps it lighter, but the chorizo packs in a ton of flavor! And just enough fat and pork to really kick the chili up a notch.

I think it would be way too heavy and spicy with just the chorizo, but I love it in a mixed meat chili. I would also really dig some of this on scrambled eggs with or without the burrito! Oh man that would be heavenly.

I have tried most of the Johnsonville products and the chorizo is the very best. Most others have strayed from the roots of the traditional product but this one is exactly what it should be. It’s my go to seasoning meat in several southern and southwestern style dishes and has just the right amount and right balance of flavor.

This is coming from an old Texan who has used chorizo all his life. It’s the authentic stuff!.

I come from south america where chorizo is used daily for breakfast, after years of trying different types of chorizos, Johnsonville’s was the only one to get it right. It’s got the perfect consistency and seasoning.

Hillshire Farm makes the best smoked sausage of all time. I eat one every week or two. They freeze real well. Best sausage quality and makes every dish better. It’s easy to cook and great taste. I like to dice them into 1/2″ thick rounds, microwave for 1 minute and then place them on a cracker with a chunk of cheese.

So Awesome! It goes excellent with eggs and hash browns. Also, I make potato soup and right before serving I add the sausage, no need to put salt in the soup as the sausage has enough in it. My husband loves it and it’s quick and easy.

I recently bought a family pack of the skinless smoked sausage. I’ve bought the rope smoked sausage for years and loved it, and this new stuff tastes like I’m eating a hot dog, NOT smoked sausage. There was hardly any taste to it, and it definitely did not taste like smoked sausage.

I can buy hot dogs for $1, and definitely felt like I wasted $5. 00 on this smoked sausage that tasted like hot dogs instead. I don’t know what has changed, but I won’t be buying any of your products again if they taste like this.

Hilshire Farms has changed their delicious flavor the once had, I have purchased their sausages on many occasions thinking the perhaps they’ve gone back to their original flavor. The texture and flavor, unfortunately their sausages seems to taste worst, the sausages are too salty and just overall taste terrible.

I will never buy their any of their brand.

Growing up we were the kids that always had veggie dogs. There was a war on hotdogs, and mum was fighting for something healthier. I on the other hand have grown into an adult who loves to buy gas station dogs off the rack.

I dont care how long they’ve been there, I want that salt and grease. Anyway. These stickers are a good middle ground. They taste nice, they grill up nice, and they’re a good size so they don’t disappear into the bun.

I am so frustrated that this product has been out of stock for months and I can’t find it anywhere. I bought this brand and another brand at the same time and deferred eating this brand for awhile because the other brand was so awful.

I finally thawed the Oscar Mayer brand, and loved the texture, and taste. Please stock this item again.

We liked the flavor of this turkey sausage. We usually buy a different brand, which was out of stock. Received this as a substitute, will buy again.

These used to be great and my go to for cooking. The quality has gone down dramatically with having huge chunks that aren’t eatable , almost a rubbery chewy taste. At first I thought it was just a few off but after a couple of packages I have to say it’s the factory itself producing now garbage quality.

The flavor is non existent and almost bland. I used to love these but quality has declined.

Full flavor sausages with a good balance of fat to meat. Moist, but not injected with water to the point where you can’t get a sear. Spicy, but with a well balanced profile. A package of this stuff and a family sized box of red beans and rice mix is a fantastic night.

What’s for dinner? with no artificial ingredients, no added hormones, no nitrates, and msg and gluten free, it is chock full of flavor. This Cajun flavor has a little spice for those who love that bit of kick to their sausage.

My husband first got me addicted to these when we were living in Brooklyn. He makes a fancy breakfast sandwich with the sausages adding egg, cheese, caramelized onions, micro-greens and truffle aioli.

The flavor of the sausages is like a dance party in your mouth. We moved to WI a year ago so now we just order off the website. The food comes fast and well packed.

I have always enjoyed finding good quality merguez in France, but had never found anything remotely similar in the US until I tried these. They are excellent and have a genuine merguez taste. My daughters had never had merguez before and loved these.

If you love merguez, and have been looking for it in the US, buy these. As for preparation – on French bread or with fries (or both!) – so simple. Or use as a base meat in a couscous dish.

I absolutely love this turkey sausage!! It has so much flavor that you would never know it was a healthier choice!!! I love to use this in my Smoked Sausage and Cabbage Casserole!! I highly recommend this product, you won’t be disappointed!!!.

I’ve always reach for hillshire farm when shopping for sausage. I recently started a diet though and hillshire farm turkey sausage allows me to still make family favorites, while cutting back on calories.

It’s delicious and my family can’t tell the difference.

These used to be awesome, and everyone in my family loved them. After being gone from our local store for several months, they’re now back, but the sausages are much shorter, and have some kind of soy filler.

The texture is now very squishy, they brown more like cardboard than sausage, and I’m now the only one who will eat them. Very disappointing for a family favorite. The uncooked 16 oz rolls/tubes of Jimmy Dean sausage are still great, though.

The quality and taste is superb and you can’t beat the convenience! It’s amazing how good it is straight from the freezer, to microwave, to plate. We eat it just about every morning and do sometimes use it in recipes as well.

I personally do not like the boxed turkey sausage that comes from the refrigerator section as well. It doesn’t have any sear on it, and so in my opinion, doesn’t taste as good! It’s also more expensive because it’s a smaller size package.

The problem is that the only place that sells this bag of Heat ‘N Serve Turkey Sausage Links in the frozen section in my area is Publix and it hasn’t been available there the last few weeks. I talked to the meat guy and he said the manufacturer sent them an email and said there was some kind of issue and that many other customers have asked him about it as well.

He has no idea when they might resume shipping it or even whether they plan to continue this product. I want to ask you to please don’t discontinue this product! Most American households rely on products like this and we don’t eat pork in my household for health and other reasons.

I used to have to buy fresh turkey sausage and cook big batches of it and then eat that throughout the week. Obviously, this is way more convenient! Please bring this product back! :).

I like the convenience of these fully cooked sausages, but my children say that they are too spicy. I have more than half a bag and I don’t know how to incorporate them into other recipes. I don’t mind the taste.

They also have a slightly squishy texture.

Never disappoints. Good balance flavor. Kids love it. And a must have for any cookout.
