20 Best Sarah J Maas Books (2023 Updated)

This review is coming from someone who loved the series itself and think it definitely worth a read. Sarah J. Maas sets up a lot of characters and plot points for the series itself in her first novel, so overall this is my least favourite in the series however it serves its purpose of a good first novel.

Feyre is an interesting character and I like her because she grows and changes throughout the series. I feel a lot of fantasy novels have characters that throw themselves into dangerous situations and come out of it with no repercussions on their character.

Feyre shows the damage this can do to a person overall which you don’t often see in novels. Despite this being my least favourite in the series I did enjoy this novel overall, but the series does only get better from here.

As a side note, there is also a glossary of names relevant to the series and how to pronounce them in the book, this should be mandatory in fantasy series.

How anyone could love this book is beyond me. The writing seems haphazard and lazy and the main character is incredibly irritating. There’s a bunch of plot points that are conveniently wrapped up with magic which was annoying and a bunch of innocent souls who die because of the main character and she seems totally fine about it.

I guess if you’re a “hysterical” 15 year old you might really enjoy this book but as an adult woman , I have no desire to be immersed in the life of a drama loving martyr who wont take anyone’s advice, communicate with anyone properly or exercise any common sense.

ALSO, if she lives in perpetual magical Spring – why does every metal thing she touches “bite into her flesh”?!? every second paragraph, something is biting into her flesh when she touches it.

This series is going to capture you (or not, I’m not pychic). This first book in the series is fun, angsty, romatic. I’ll be honest though, it didn’t wow me as much as I expected it to when I saw how hyped it was – it didn’t quite give me all the vibes, but I was still hooked with the world, and with the main character Feyre, and I was keen to see where the rest of this journey would go.

More then anything I wanted to see her grow into the ‘strong female character’ that everyone was telling me she would be. The journey does not disappoint. – Older YA (rest of the series is NA and increasingly spicy) – forced proximity + enemies to lovers (kinda) – girl saves the day.

My heart hurts for Celaena. If we thought she was in a bad place after Endoiver and couldn’t be worse we were so wrong. With the death of Nehemia and subsequent events Celaena is broken (not that I can blame her – Crown of Midnight was rough!).

Broken but determined. She is still our Celaena though; tough sarcastic and hell bent to keep her promise to Nehemia no matter the cost. As her training with Rowan continues we see a larger character development from her than in the two previous novels combined.

Obviously I’m not going to tell you what happens but those last few pages. the King of Adarlan is in so much trouble! At the same time Celaena is going through her transformation (for lack of better words) Dorian and Chaol are having their own issues back in Adarlan and we’re introduced to two new players: Aedion Ashryver Celaena’s cousin and Sorscha a healer within the castle.

Both of these characters play major roles within Heir of Fire but I have to say that I am loving Aedion. He’s quick witty and beyond determined to see his cousin on the throne of Terrasen. As well as Celaena Dorian shows true growth within Heir of Fire.

Thanks to Celaena’s actions he is no longer the playboy prince we first met but someone who not only sees the flaws of his father’s rule but also someone who is going to do something about it. Chaol well.

I know he’s had a few knowledge truth bombs dropped on him and is coping with have to leave Adarlan and go back to Anielle but come on man! He does have a few moments of kick assery and is trying to help Celaena from a distance but I had a lot of trouble liking him this time around.

He’s just. broody! That’s what it is. Too broody for my tastes (and I’m Team Angel so that should tell you something). On top of these three narratives (Celaena Dorian and Chaol) Sarah also introduces us to Manon Blackbeak an Ironteeth witch and heir of the Blackbeak coven.

I found Manon’s storyline to be interesting not as interesting as the other three but I know she’s going to play a much more important role in the upcoming novels so these bits are important and integral to the storyline.

Plus after meeting Baba Yellowlegs in Crown of Midnight it was fun to see and learn more about the Ironteeth witches. Each new Throne of Glass book throws readers through a loop reveals deeper secrets and ends in the most sublime cliff hangers.

They’re not the so-and-so is dead cliff hangers (ugh those are rough) but the kind where you are salivating for the next book. Where you are so glad to have read this latest installment and ended the torture left over from the previous book only to enter a new / similar form of torture and curse the heavens because the next book doesn’t come out for months.

If you haven’t started this series yet I suggest you run (don’t walk) to your local book store and purchase every single one and binge your little heart out. Queen of Shadows comes out on September 1 and you are not going to what to be in the dark when that comes out!.

This book blew me away. The plot here is slower moving that the first two, but the character development is rich. The new characters are beyond wonderful. The relationships are the true heart of the story in this book.

Dorian absolutely shines. Rowan, Aedion, and Sorscha will steal your heart.

Nice big book, great quality and makes an impact on my shelf! I loved the journey for Celaena and her serving of humble pie in this book and it’s my favourite in the series so far. Sarah’s craft has evidently matured!.

I love this series despite reading all the horrible reviews before hand. I’m so thankful I took a chance. Book 3 is great. Also note this series has some real juicy “ love scenes” I love how smj expanded on every characters issues and growth.

I couldn’t put it down. Plus the “sassy scenes!” Lord give me one of the bat boys any day! You aren’t left wondering about characters and where they stand by the end of the book. The only downside and issue I have is the war itself.

The characters work so hard to get ready and go to war. They give everything they have, but the death of king though I didn’t see it coming felt rushed. So much build and in like what 60 pages the war is over and we are moving forward.

I felt like it should’ve had a little more to it. Lucien accomplished his one mission to help and it made a difference in the war however it wasn’t explained well. It could’ve used more detail. Also note : ignore reviews stating how poorly tamlin is treated.

For one in this book he has some personal reflection. He saves freye and comes to their aid in war. He also saves Rhys and states he only wishes for her happiness. There is hope for him. He isn’t a main character after book 1, but she does an amazing job of not leaving you wondering about him.

4. 5 Stars – Originally reviewed on Just Me My Books. Taken back to the Spring Court, Feyre plans to not only get revenge on Tamlin and Ianthe for bringing here sisters into the war against Hybern, but also gather information on Tamlin’s association with its King.

She plans on bringing down the court from the inside and show the people that Tamlin and his High Priestess cannot be trusted, especially when Tamlin is making deals with the enemy and granting them access to the Wall.

When she finally returns to the Night Court, Rhysand and his inner circle begin planning on how to defeat Hybern, hopefully before he reaches Prythian. But a meeting with the other High Lords comes too late, and Hybern’s forces reach Prythian and the mortal realm before a plan can be fully formulated.

With war raging in the mortal lands, the Night Court and it’s allies must fight against a much larger army in order to protect not only themselves but the humans on their land. Destroying the Cauldron is the only way Hybern will be defeated, and it’s a race against the clock to uncover how to do it.

This is quite possibly the best book I have ever read. I have enjoyed the ACOTAR series so much, and every single book has been filled with so much detail. This book was SO intricate though. I felt like I got to see more of an insight into the characters, and I absolutely loved seeing the development between Feyre and Rhys.

Their love story is one that I find myself comparing to every single other book I read. I constantly compare the characters to characters in other books and they never seem to even compare. Sarah does such a wonderful job building the world and the elements for this story.

I really felt like I was going to war with them, and I found myself not breathing at some of the parts, just in suspense! Amazing. Altering. Superb. I only have positive thoughts and feelings toward this series.

This could possibly be the best book I’ve ever read. Never have I been so captivated and hopelessly addicted to a book as I was this one. It really is wonderfully written and a truly fitting end (actually quite upset that it’s now come to a head) to what was probably one of my new favourite series.

You will not want to put it down, wait, scratch that. you will not be able to put it down! I am well aware that it is aimed at young adult but I am in my late 20’s and will read almost anything and everything and honestly don’t put this down because of the section you found it in.

The series is brilliant and I’d recommend it to anyone and everyone who wants an addictive series that they can re-read as much as they like. Don’t assume that the writing, because of the demographic it’s aimed at is anything less than perfect either, Maas really has a way of keeping the flow of the story consistent and moving quick enough so that you don’t have any slow points in the book, I really appreciate that.

It makes for a truly enjoyable read. Cannot recommend this book/ series enough, it will be an asset to your imagination and to your bookshelf! Thank you, Sarah J. Maas, I truly look forward to whatever you publish in the future.

Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas My rating: 4 of 5 stars This book has all spoilers tagged, so you won’t be spoiled unless you want to! MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE BOOK: It took me a week to fly by the finale.

Overall, I’d like to note that I believe ACOWAR is a stronger finale. I think because there were more life-or-death instances occurring during the battles of ACOWAR. HOWEVER, Aelin was 10000% more involved in the war than Feyre ever was in her own.

So take what you will from my urinate -poor comparison. CHARACTERS/DYNAMICS: Aelin: okay WOW. After hating her throughout the novels off-and on, it was nice to be fully behind my homegirl for this finale.

I loved that she still had surprises, even at the very end. People got mad over (view spoiler) thereby breaking her promise. But I think this truly showed her maturing. Just like when she didn’t want to (view spoiler) At least, not like she used to, back in her Dark Days.

Aelin truly grows in this novel, and it was a joy to see her story. She continues to inspire me. Fun fact! Every time I read a ToG novel, it makes me want to exercise, be fearless, and be confrontational.

Thank you to this awe-inspiring character. I already feel the need to reread these books over and over. Fun fact #2: I am the same age as Aelin————————- SJM, I need some answers. Why have I not either just become the long-lost queen and found my true love, OR been captured by the Spring Court and will soon find my true love THAT way—- I’m very disappointed.

Rowan: I needed more Rowan for this novel to be 5/5 stars. I love Rowan. He’s one of my fave characters, and I think he is perfect. For Aelin. Hehe. I don’t think we see him grow in this, not like other characters, and he was really just a hot side-piece for what I love abt SJM’swriting: romance, and fated mates <3.

Chaol: It was disappointing, after Tower of Dawn, to not see too much of Chaol. I KNOW! I’ve done a complete 180. I didn’t care about the guy before, but his focused instalment made me interested in one of the only humans in this novel.

She’s as iconic as Aelin. WHY WASN’T SHE IN THIS FOR LONGER— Yrene is a goddess and I demand more of her story. Also: who’s helping Yrene (view spoiler) Elide and Lorcan: THEY WERE EVERYTHING. THEY.

WERE. EVERYTHING. THEY HAS USURPED MY LOVE FOR ROWAELIN. THEY ARE THE #1 COUPLE IN THIS INSTALMENT. I NEED A SEQUEL SPECIFICALLY FOR MORE LORIDE/ELORCAN(– what’s their ship name halp). I NEED MORE FANART AND SIDE STORIES OF THEM PLEASE.

The Cadre: (view spoiler) Feyrs was such a wholesome character, but also I stopped caring about him once the battles started. Oops. But yay the feels of all of Maeve’s slaves becoming Aelin’s men! <3 :') Dorian: HE IS SO IMPORTANT IN THIS STORY BUT BARELY GETS A CONCLUSION.

Give. Me. More. I have always loved Dorian bby, he’s what hooked me in book 1. Manon: (view spoiler) Manon’s ice heart melted. I cried and cried for her. The Thirteen: Chapter 89. (view spoiler) They are the reason (view spoiler) Fight me.

Maeve and Erawan: Tbh. I don’t care about writing anything about them. Surprise, surprise, Maeve is bad. Erawan is. Blurgh. I hated the King from ACOWAR more. (view spoiler) Aedion and Lysandra: Honestly.

Their side of the war was so boring. And took way too long for a reunion. If you love action and the witches: you’ll love their sections. But I’m here for the romance, bby! (view spoiler) Nesryn and the Antica Royals: most irrelevant thing ever.

Tower of Dawn should have only been Chaol getting healed, and finding out abt the stagian spiders. Fin. ALSO: How amazing was page 800- If you can’t remember what happened. Hint: Feyrhys PLOT: Um. Tbh.

It’s almost 1000 pages, but after (view spoiler) it’s just all about the battles. Not too much plot. Just. War. But it made me like war, for once. Usually, I’m like hmm I disapprove. But dang. I was so proud of each soldier.

STRUCTURE: There are two parts to this book. Book 1: Aelin is trapped with Maeve, early battles begin. Book 2: Epic battles go on. Lots of action. When I hit 50%, I started to get sad about saying goodbye.

To my friends, to this world. I got very sentimental. I enjoyed part 1 more, but the finale, of course, was so god darn beautiful to witness. Everyone gets married and lives happily ever after (I’m super duper oversimplifying it of course).

If I want to see my innocent younglings, I will read ToG and CoM. If I want Rowan, I’ll read HoF. If I want to cry, I’ll read QoS. Then, if I want to consolidate this series, I GUESS I’ll venture into EoS and KoA.

I love this series and this book was an epic conclusion. Sarah J. Maas’ ability to give so much depth to her characters and storyline is so much fun to read. A great ending to a 7 book series, which is hard to achieve! I loved the intricacies between the crossing of worlds, what is ‘good’, and how heroes can be morally ambiguous and make tough decisions.

And let’s not downplay the epic magic and war scenes!.

Wow what a thrilling start to the series, once again Sarah has written a book which I want to continue finding out what comes next. After everything Celaena had to go through to get where she is, what she has seen in her journey that no 18 year old would of thought to survive.

What happens with the relationships she has built with Dorian, Choal and Nehemia in the upcoming books and what of the Fae and magic which was meant to be destroyed all those years ago? Time to join the journey as the kings champion and what happens amongst them all Truly another magical and nail biting book which I know before the series is out is going to make me feel very emotion possible and have me on my edge of my seat for what comes next.

First off, I might be a bit biased in this review. I’ve been following this series since this book first came out, and have pre-ordered every subsequent book by this author since. This book series has outlasted two friends and stuck with me through colleges problems and mental health issues and always, always helped me stand up again no matter what.

That being said, is this first book a masterpiece? Of course not. It sets up something bigger, and has foreshadowing that lies hidden until you reread it a couple years later, after you’ve read a couple of the other books.

The pros of this book include that, of course, and world building and history that helps you get to know the setting as you read instead of one big info dump near the beginning. Witty dialogue, well-written action, and lush descriptions grace the whole book from beginning to end as rapport is built between the characters and the stakes are driven higher.

I really, really love this book. The downsides are mostly just subjective on my part. This book definitely knows its main audience. It’s unapologetically girly at some points with its descriptions of fancy gowns and adorable puppies, which I don’t dislike but I feel is a bit pandering.

Aside from that our main character, Celaena, is a bit unlikeable at times for more than just flaws in her personality, and it has my most hated young adult trope of all time: LOVE TRIANGLE. I genuinely hate that trope so much.

If I’d read this book just a couple years later than I did, I would have given up simply because of that. However, I’m glad I didn’t. Minor spoiler: the love triangle doesn’t last for many books. Romantic relationships develop and fall apart, just like in the real world.

All in all, I do recommend this series as a whole, but the rest of the books are far better than this one. Stick with this book through the cliches to reach Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, and beyond, and you’ll be in for a treat.

This book was incredible! I steered clear of the majority of the hype and reviews so I could have an open mind and unbiased expectations, and so I wouldn’t get any spoilers. I found the book to have incredible character development, stunning plot and world building, and lots of twists and turns! I did a buddy read on this one, so my review is split in to two parts:PART 1:I have to say that I am really loving the book so far.

Maas has an exceptional writing style that offers highly developed characters and intense world building! I know many people have said that the pace of this one is slow, but I am enjoying it. I am being introduced to all the necessary characters.

I am getting all the backstory I need, and I am getting the current plot unfolding at a steady pace. I am also loving the little bits of humor mixed in!I am enjoying the tournament too. I can see why Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller has been compared to this one.

The tournament is pretty interesting (like Hunger Games meets Reign) and has a few interesting plot twists. Celaena is pretty awesome, and definitely a force to be reckoned with. I find her to be calculating, brave, curious, comical, and dangerous.

I like Prince Dorian and Captain Chaol. Dorian is very rebellious, and Chaol is mysterious and gentlemanly. They are both equally handsome and alluring. The character I feel like I need to expect the most from is curious Princess Nehemia.

I have an awesome feeling about her and I love her already!As of right now, there is nothing I dislike about the book. I am looking forward to finishing it in the next few days! My expectations have been on par so far.

I have enjoyed a good amount of action, a little bit of fantasy (hoping for more), and fantastic, developed characters and writing style. I feel like this book has characteristics from the TV show, Reign, which was one of my favorites!PART 2:I felt like part 2 picked up pace from part 1, in a good way.

We spent part 1 getting a feel for the characters and story, so part 2 held more action. I loved the plot twists and the character surprises! I think we were meant to know from the beginning who was killing off the other champions, so I was okay with the predictability of that.

The character development seemed to continue on through to the end of the book. I still loved Celaena, and was left wondering about her ties to Elena and the Fae. Dorian has really grown on me. I was leaning toward team Chaol at first, but am now back in the middle because Dorian was just so persistent and seductive! I really loved Chaol though, and felt sympathy for him because he tried so hard to be a good guard and do what was right!Lady Kaltain was my hated character.

I think she was meant to be everyone’s hated character, besides Cain and the Duke. She was so conniving and back stabbing!I still found that I loved Nehemia. She had a pretty big secret, and she has proven to be a great friend to Celaena! I was left wondering what role she will play in the next book!I would have to say that part 2 was slightly better than part 1.

Though, part 1 was amazing, part 2 picked up the pace and gave us more action. It also gave us more secrets, more passion, and more betrayal!.

This is a novella that bridges the story from the first three books to the upcoming spin-offs. It doesn’t really have a plot, but it’s not meant to. It’s like a sweet holiday special where we actually get to see what happens to our favorite characters after a war.

I love seeing the “everyday” in this story as you don’t get to see that alot in a series. It’s a bit fanfiction-y at times, but honestly I’m a sucker for that! And leave it to Sarah J Maas to have some realistic character development in a novella! Definitely read this before the first spin off!.

This isn’t on the book content but the way the book arrived to me. It came with the dust jacket ripped and a razerblade cut through the top of the pages. I honestly didn’t return it cuz I didn’t feel like messing with it but I def am disappointed and don’t know if I will purchase books via Walmart again.

I was hoping to have better luck then when I order on Amazon but I guess not.

I enjoyed all Sarah Maas’s books as they take me to a place of fantasy and wonder and completely away from the day to day functioning of the real world. This novel took me by surprise however as the explicit erotica was better than Fifty Shades of Grey and much more believable.

Aside from that, it also touched a cord within me about how self worth, self esteem and fighting for yourself, whether it be physical or mental, can be attained, especially if you have a partner who truly sees you for who you are and is not intimidated by you and loves you for it.

Read it and be uplifted by it.

I have to admit book 1 left me in an uproar. I wasn’t happy about the ending and new development with Rhys. However, this book left gawking and wanting nothing but to be in the night court surrounded by the “bat boys†There are a lot of reviews stating you can skip the first book and start with this one.

That’s not true. You must read the first book in order to fully understand the character growth and the relationships currently building. I also give this 5 stars because though it has some “very Frisky†scenes there’s an amazing plot.

Some adult romance novels have more “sassy time scenes†and not enough plot and building in the relationships. This book has everything you crave and more! I highly recommend!!! I’ll reread this book again and again I’m sure! She didn’t disappoint and I’m in love with this story!.

My current read! Acotar series has been amazing so far! I read the first book and the second book picks up from where it left off. Sarah J. Maas writes a thrilling, intriguing, mythical series that keeps you turning the pages.

So far this book and series has kept me interested and dying to know more. I highly recommend this series to anyone interested in fantasy, I was unsure how I would like these books but have ended up loving them! 🥰📚.

🤷🏻‍♀️ He’s probably better with Celaena than Dorian is – he understands her more – but I just think he’s boring. Maybe because I picture him as Bash from Reign and I was not remotely into him and hated all of his love interests, unless Mary counts.

😂🙄⠀ 3) I was hoping Aelin was the pretty girl at the carnival that Roland was talking to, and I shipped Aelin and Dorian. Now I’m not sure what will happen. I know some guy named Rowan comes in and y’all are into him.

(This is like when I finished ACOTAR and was like, “Why is everyone into Rhys? He’s hot but he’s douchey. ” Now he’s my favorite. 💙 Guess I’ll find out. )⠀.

Super excited to see this box series on sale! I haven’t started reading them yet, but am so glad I don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to get the whole set. Shipping was quick, and they were very upfront that it wouldn’t ship right away – which wasn’t a big deal to meat all.

Although I started reading Maas with ACOTAR and loved it. I can say this is better it takes a while to get into because she’s great at world building and character building but once you know the players and the places you are in.

For life! I’ve never gone through so many emotions and ultimately ugly cried. Read it I promise you will love it.

I just started her series. I finished ACOTAR and was looking for more. This is a beautiful box set and I’m already loving the series. I’m reading them in order instead of the other option.

If you had asked me when I was halfway through the book if I would recommend it to a friend I would have said flat out no. It was borderline boring until after halfway through the book. Even now I would only recommend it if you’re a patient person.

Fortunately, the last quarter takes an exciting turn and has piqued my interest enough that I’ve decided to read the next one after all. I found it difficult to relate to or even be intrigued by any of the characters (at first) and felt that the author just didn’t get very personal with them or their relationships with each other.

Feyre’s relationship with her love interest seems rushed; there’s not a lot of flirting, or intimate thoughts on Feyre’s part and since you’re reading through her eyes it’s almost like she grew feelings overnight.

And as a young woman with two sisters myself, Feyre’s relationship with her sisters seems totally alien to me, I hope to see them grow closer as the series continues. All in all, the ending was definitely worth the slow beginning and left me wanting to know what happens next.

Aside from the story itself, the book cover is beautiful and worth the buy if you’re a collector.

Received in great condition. The slip case comes with a small ribbon to help remove the book safely. The gold leaf images on the collectors edition are absolutely stunning, and the book binding is pretty great too, although I would have to break the binding carefully before reading.

The collectors edition comes with a highly detailed world map – more detailed than the original release.

I loved this book and had been looking toward purchasing a hardcover of it. I was able to get it when it was on sale and it was worth every dollar! It even came wrapped in plastic to make sure it stayed in good condition! It’s a wonderful piece to have with a beautiful cover.

This was the only place I could find a new copy of this coloring book, and while I definitely paid more than the original price, I was fine with it because Ive become obsessed with this book series. The coloring book is in pristine condition.

Definitely 5 stars.

Fell in love with this trilogy this year, and had to have the coloring book. The pictures are well selected and beautifully rendered. Can’t wait to dig in to this with my colored pencils!

Throne of Glass series continues with this book. Sarah J Maas is a true story teller with a AAA standing among the best of the best. She is amazing. Read the first book of Throne of Glass and you will be getting the following books before a quarter of the way through.

Mild enough for teenagers and interesting enough for adults. Magic, witches, beasts, royals, slaves, love, revenge, human nature, battles, evil, hope, friendship. it has it all.

As the fifth book in this series the story continues to send excitement and suspense down my spine. These books just get better and better Queen of Shadows blew me away with its story line and vengeance, can’t wait for the next one.

This series is such a great one to read. This series is about a girl named Celaena Sardothien and her journeys of being adarlans greatest assassin. You see her going through pains both emotional and physical as she continues to live the best that she can.

I would classify this series as fantasy and adventure. This book keeps you turning the pages to know what will happen next and that is one of the things I love most about it. With so many twists and turns I am certain you will love this book as much as the rest of us.

I was really excited for the books to arrive and when it did (very fast delivery), it was wonderful! The packaging was with great care and the books themselves were in immaculate condition. I then proceeded to buy more books from Booktopia.

My experience with them is awesome. I have recommended Booktopia to a friend and she is looking st buying books there as well! It would be great if there’s an Afterpay option for New Zealanders as well 🙂.

I have read this series before, and I am loving reading it again! My favourite author! The shipment was really good, it came secured and safe! The box is gorgeous too! Five out of five stars!

OMG!! I don’t even know how to approach this review. So much amazing, wonderful, heart wrenching and mind boggling things happened in this book. I’m still trying to wrap my head around this story and contain all the crazy feelings I have for these characters.

Sarah J. Mass is a wizard of words and no-one has touched my soul and heart this way since the Harry Potter series. This 5th installment of the ‘Throne of Glass’ series was packed with action, steamy romance, betrayal, heartbreak, laughter and tears.

And lots and lots of plot twists!!! Although I will admit that some of the sexy scenes caught me a little off guard (But every fan girl has to admit they were secretly waiting for it to happen ;). Even though the book was just over 700 pages, it still didn’t feel long enough to cover everything I wanted and has just made me ”DESPERATELY’ wanting’ the next and final book.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to briefly escape their everyday life and fully emerge themselves in this wonderful world which Sarah J. Mass has blessed us with. Overall, it will make you cry and laugh and have you craving for more.

I was so, SO excited for the newest edition in the Throne of Glass series! It was the first book that I ever pre-ordered and as a School Librarian I’ve reccomended the series to literally dozens of people.

That was until the vivid, pleantiful sex scenes in this latest edition that would make 50 Shades of Grey fans blush. Now, I know that sex is nothing new to this series, and YA books explore these topics rather often but the “hot” scene on the beach and the borderline-bondage was a bit much.

Honestly, it felt unnessasary and REALLY made me wish that I hadn’t reccomended this series to YOUNG STUDENTS. I mean, they weren’t badly written, but the plot would have progressed all the same had the pages and pages of them been replaced with the phrase “AND THEN THEY BONED”.

Other complaints include the Mannon twist – SPOILERS – I loved the whole half-and-half thing but I didn’t really like the “royal” thing. It’s kinda like Oprah on a couch screaming “a kingdom for you, a kingdom for you, a kingdom for everyone!” But asides those two minor complaints, the overall plot was SUPERBLY written and I will still be pre-ordering the next one.

As a teacher librarian you read an enormous amount of books of your life; it is a rare find when a series comes across your desk that hits all the boxes for an incredible read. My niece introduced me to this series when it first came out and I have since bought all paperbacks as well as the short stories in digital form.

This is book five in a very well written series with characters that hook your heart and demand your presence in the story alongside them. How can one go past a flawed heroine who is everything to everyone in her life but at a cost! An unmissable read but you must read from the start as Sarah J Maas has crafted a superb story line that must be experienced in full to gain the full impact of the world and the sacrifices it demands of its characters.

Do yourself a favour and discover the Throne of Glass series.

I am an ACOTAR fan, and a sucker for hardcovers and this set is absolutely stunning! I’m not going into the content of the books other than to see it’s a great YA series, that has developed into a NA series with spice, so beware of that if purchasing for a young person to read.

There is absolutely mature content as the books progress. As for the books, the covers are so bright and vibrant. Packaging was perfect as usual from booktopia, and postage was reasonably speedy given the current climate.

Definitely worth the purchase if you want the very pretty versions of this popular series!.

This product arrived safely packaged and in quick time. I would recommend this product to anyone, especially because of the pricing, it is very difficult to beat this and I’ve been looking for the best deals for months now.

I’ve been wanting this set ever since I read the paperbacks last year and I do not regret buying it. I love my set so much, it is one of my favourite series ever and a very good introductory fantasy for anyone wanting to start the genre.

Saw this on BookTok and I have to say I’m quite impressed. You can very clearly see the pictures in your head. It explains it in such a detail that maybe even a spinoff series could be created as a book, tv show, or movie.

This book series needs a movie adaptation that sticks to the source material.

All in all I enjoyed ACOSF the same if not more than the other books in the rest of the ACOTAR series. It’s an emotional roller coaster and found myself relating to Nesta more than Feyre (which hit in the feels, definitely cried more than once) and the /smut/, Lordy the smut.

My partner doesn’t read but found himself reading the smut scene over and over again, quite amusing. *spoilers from here down* I really love the relationship between Cas and Nesta; with Feyre and Rhys it was almost picture perfect.

But I found the friction between Cas and Nesta was more “interesting” and found myself drawn into the relatability of the characters insecurities. The book does have its “downfalls though” which is why I only rated it 4 star.

I felt like the plot was only really starting a third of the way in the book and was constantly finding myself torn between “Yes!! Girl power!! Feminism!!” And “omg it’s another ‘the power of friendship will save the world’ bs”.

But the thing that frustrated me the most is the plot development scenes (gaining the Death Trove) seemed to either just fall into their laps or was a 10 page read, I found myself forgetting the bad guys because I’m to distracted trying to figure out the length of Cassian’s wingspan, and every time the bad guys appear in the book I’m like “oh yeah.

that’s right you exist”. The end of the book definitely felt like a “oh poop I’ve almost reached my word limit, I need to wrap this up” which is disappointing because the mountain arch was my favourite part of the book (asides from the smut) Tdlr: good book, chicks before dicks, 20 page segges scene, 10 pages of plot story plot development.

I had been anticipating this book for years because I felt I could relate to Nesta’s emotions. Of course not her trauma, but her sense of worthlessness. I was curious to see how SJM would “redeem” Nesta and I was worried she wouldn’t do it right but I was proven wrong.

Maas beautifully showed us Nesta’s journey to self-love and those who relate to Nesta, it felt like it was also our journey too. I love how Maas didn’t redeem Nesta by excusing her past actions and instead Nesta was held accountable for her mistakes and it just felt like she is real.

Many books tend to write “perfect” characters whose wrong actions are justified and excused so it was a breath of fresh air that this was not the case. I know a lot of people did not like the “Feyre baby” plot point and although I wasn’t the biggest fan of it either, I loved, LOVED when Nesta saved Feyre and her baby’s lives.

It was the sweet moment between Nesta and Feyre that I had been waiting for, for so long and the fact that the first person Nesta has ever said ‘I love you’ to is Feyre, just showed her self growth. I shed a lot of tears because Maas perfectly put the emotions and thoughts that are hard to word and express, in to this book.

It was very inspiring and healing. However, while I loved Nesta’s healing journey, I have to say that the plot in terms of movement and action wasn’t amazing. Of course I didn’t expect another war so soon but at times it felt like nothing was happening.

So for the actual plot, I take 1 star off. Also, I was excited to see Nesta and Cassian’s relationship develop and I suppose it did but not in the way I hoped for. I know there is a lot of sexual chemistry between them but it felt like their relationship was purely sexual rather than emotional.

I know it’s a NA book but it doesn’t have to mean there is an intimate scene every 5 pages. I wanted to see more of Nesta and Cassian bonding together. Oh well, can’t have it all.

Similarly, to all Sarah J Maas’ other works of fiction, ‘A Court of Silver Flames’ is a novel filled with power and passion that truly hits the mark for a beautiful and heart shattering fantasy romance.

In the first three books of the ACOTAR series we are shown the shell of Nesta, everything on the outside that is more so horrid than beautiful, and she is portrayed to be nothing but selfish and hateful.

With A Court of Silver Flames this shell is cracked open and we are able to really delve into and explore her character. The truth behind the passing passion we saw between her and Cassian in ACOWAR and the seclusion and disparagement in ACOFAS are all revealed in this book of awakening and new beginnings.

For fans of the ACOTAR series, waiting for the release of ‘A court of Silver Flames’ was truly incomparable; long and tiring yet exciting and unbelievable. To think that we would finally have the novel we were all waiting for.

The thought of being able to read the story of a character we hate and of one we love was just thrilling, and I must say, it was not a letdown. The story of Cassian and Nesta was in no way predictable and in no way disappointing.

The snarky commentare, the fervent encounters, the maddening fighting sessions, were the backbone of an emotional, relatable novel that left readers on the edge of their seats and gasping in surprise.

Every page and chapter brought a new surprise or thrill and most of the time I was left in awe. To be able to create such a wonderful story and grow unbreakable, realistic bonds between characters in such a way is truly a gift.

A gift everyone should experience. All you need to do is read.

It’s detailed, but not too complex! It’s exciting to see what someone else envisions the characters as.

Upon receiving the book the 800 odd pages left me startled and procrastinating starting the read. I was expecting to have to drag out this read and just get it over and done with so as to not waste my money.

However, I have never read a book of this size so bloody quickly. The definition of a page-turner. With an ever-thickening plot and what seems to be never-ending character developments, one can find themselves very quickly submerged into the starkly unique world of Crescent City.

Maas has created a world where the reader can find similarities to our own world, allowing for deeper connections, often subliminal, between readers and characters and the socio-political space we both exist within to emerge.

Now it’s onto book #2 in the Cresent City world.

If you have the money to splurge on this beauty I would highly recommend as the cover art is impeccable. As for the story it does take a bit to get into compared to her previous works. There is very complex world building in the beginning that can be confusing but the further along you get in the book the more accustomed you become.

The main protagonist I can understand why some people wouldn’t particularly like her as her character does have some rough edges, particularly in the beginning, but like many other great books you get to see her character develop and you grow to like her.

She’s a self assured and confident woman, which is something we don’t get to see often. Definitely not a damsel in distress. Highly recommend if you don’t mind the complex world building, enjoy romance, mystery and fantasy 🙂 (enemies to lovers trope is also a plus).

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate Bryce and all that she has gone through like this girl is a survivor if I ever saw one. Anyway, love this book Sarah has done it again, from the world building to the sexual tension between Hunt and Bryce is like mind blowing.

Also, just the development of events towards the end “Chef’s kiss” and I just love a mystery. All the things I love about fantasy, mystery and a taboo relationship is in Crescent City. 100% would recommend.

AFTER: Not only explains how Celaena met, or knows of, so many different people all over Erilea, but provides her childhood history which is both fascinating & satisfying. BEFORE: Indubitably make you want to read the Series.

The only downside there I can see is there would less impatience to read the next book due to less anticipation. (i. e. How will Celaena get out of trouble? OR What else can happen?) Not only will ‘Young Adults’ enjoy all books by Sarah J.

Maas, but the young at heart will love them too.

I REALLY ENJOYED Sarah J Maas’ Throne Of Glass Novella collection. We can attribute this to the fact that these five stories READ LIKE A FULL LENGTH BOOK that skipped forward at times but I ENJOYED IT SO MUCH.

I loved getting to know Sam and Arobynn and re-meet the assassin Celaena Sardothien. Let’s break it down story wise: 1) THE ASSASSIN AND THE PIRATE LORD: Reading this story made me wish SO SO BADLY that I had picked this book up before I dove into Empire of Storms last year because I would have LOVED to have met Rolfe and the rest of Skulls Bay in the context I was meant to.

I loved that this story showed us how Celaena had always been someone who fought for the people and I LOVED THE BEGINNING OF SAM’S AND HER RELATIONSHIP. More than anything, I LOVED RE-MEETING THE SASSY ASSASSIN CELAENA BECAUSE I MISSED HER SO MUCH IN THE RECENT BOOK.

2) THE ASSASSIN AND THE HEALER: I’ve pretty much figured while I was reading this book that the “Healer” who this story was about is the character I will meet in Tower Of Dawn, and it makes me so glad that I picked it up.

If we saw Celaena brazen side in the last novella, we were introduced to the one with the kind heart here and I loved it. 3) THE ASSASSIN AND THE DESERT: This was the novella I was MOST excited for because this kept getting mentioned in the series and I was VERY excited to see what Celaena’s training was like, and it was also the novella that disappointed me the most.

It had too little training and action and too much running across the sand and friendship. It didn’t seem like supremely hard training (but then again, what do I know?) and I was sort of waiting for it to be done with.

4) THE ASSASSIN AND THE UNDERWORLD: THIS WAS BY FAR MY FAVOURITE NOVELLA. Celaena is back at Rifthold, a changed Assassin, with Arobynn and Sam and I loved the tensions that arose and the characters we met (hello, Lysandra) and fine new Assassin outfits.

I’m not normally a fan of novellas but The Assassin’s Blade is a great collection of stories bridging the gap of from when Celaena Sardothien was Adarlan’s Assassin to her time in the salt mines. One of the highlights of this book is you can be new to the Throne of Glass series or a veteran fan – there is something in this book for everyone.

The five stories each focus on a different mission Celaena had to undertake for Arobynn Hamel – King of the Assassins. Her assignments take her from the high seas to the depths of the arid desert and back to the capital, Rifthold.

No place is too remote or too dark for Celaena but we get to see that there’s more to Celaena than meets the eye. Her own moral code often conflicts with that of her patron and she finds herself questioning the closest thing she has to a father.

I’ve been a fan of Sarah J Mass’ writing since I first read Throne of Glass. And whilst this collection of novellas is not required to understand and enjoy the books, The Assassin’s Blade is a great addition to the world Maas has created.

Thoughout this collection, Celaena’s growth is evident and she’s one of those characters I would NEVER want to meet but I adore reading her stories. Brave, intelligent and fierce, Celaena gives her all to everything she attempts and lives her life on the edge.

She’s cocky and egotistical but her track record shows she has reason to be. This book introduces some brilliant new characters – including a well dressed pirate lord, a want-to-be healer and a girl who would do anything to get revenge – and they fit perfectly in the world.

I enjoyed reading Celaena’s antics with these people and would love to see them pop up at a later stage in the series. Another lovely thing about these novellas is the romance. Celaena’s involvement with a certain young assassin has been mentioned several times in Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight but it was brilliant to get to see the relationship unfold from the beginning.

It must have been hard to show a softer side to the legendary Adarlan’s Assassin but Maas managed the task and it felt true to Celaena’s character. I loved this book and am so glad that I got the chance to see where Celaena’s story began.

For fans of the series or those just wanting to read a great high fantasy story with brilliant characters and an assassin like no other – I could not recommend this book more highly. Great writing and engaging stories, this is a book that would appeal to young adults but also older readers too.

This coloring book is so amazing and beautiful! It’s so great to be able to have this visual experience of Sarah J. Mass’s books and to see my favorite characters on paper. Every picture is so detailed and original.

Some pages are clear and well-drawn, easy to colour successfully, others are sketchy and/or ‘black’ making it difficult. It would be a good one for colouring-in freaks and Game of Thrones nuts.

I absolutely love the book series Thorne of Glass so this companion colouring book is a great way to make the series come alive.
