20 Best Sanders For Kitchen Cabinets (2023 Updated)

This is a great sander. I only gave it 4 stars because the pad actually has a slight concave pattern while it’s running. I checked with a few different straightedges and the pad itself is flat. But, while it’s running, it will create a pattern on the front and back edges of about 3/4”.

It’s not ideal on flat panels, but is easy to work around. This sander has a little more RPM than the makita orbital sander and it does make a difference in finishing sanding. It will still give swirl marks if you don’t be careful about building up too much sanding dust(depending on the material you’re sanding).

I’ve tried both punching “suction” holes with the provided guide, as well as running without and i actually got better results without the holes. I use almost exclusively Makita in my Shop and would highly recommend ALMOST any power tool they make.

This was a great addition to help with sanding in tighter/right angles where the orbital just doesn’t reach.

Everything made by Makita lasts and lasts, so I trust this brand. I especially like the way the quarter sheets are attached, and the fact that more of the quarter sheet is used in the sanding surface.

The sander is heavy (indication of powerful motor), so it takes extra muscle. My own complaint is probably true for all other finishing sanders: the grip. It’s hard to get a good grip because the motor and shape require extra large hands for good control.

I have large hands but obviously not large enough.

I really like this sander, l especially like how easy it is the change the sanding paper, it is light enough and feels good to hold. The down side!!! the cable is too short and l kept catching the dust bag which falls off as it is only push on but on the whole l am pleased with the sander.

I read lots of reviews before purchasing this sander. Several reviews mentioned that the dust collection bag wouldn’t attach properly, that the switch malfunctioned or that the sander became hot during prolonged sanding.

I am pleased to report that I haven’t experienced any of these problems so far – and I’ve been doing quite a bit of sanding. This seems like a good, solid, no-frills orbital sander for the price. I do have a few minor complaints, but for the price I still felt the sander warranted a five star review: 1.

The dust collection bag works, but it doesn’t take long to clog and stop being effective – long before the bag is even partially full. I find it easy to unclip, but because there is a spring inside (to help it keep it’s shape), its not the easiest to clean.

I usually remove the spring, invert the bag and then turn on the sander and use the airflow to blow out the bag (presuming my compressor is not close by). I’ve also used the bag with the spring removed – seems to work just as well.

The airflow makes the bag keep its shape. I’m debating whether just to keep it out permanently for ease of use. I did find it tough to put the dust collection piece on initially – maybe that’s why others had it fall off.

To get it on properly, I took the bag off and placed the piece on a flat surface, pressing the sander onto it. Just be careful not to press to hard and break something. 2. The sander makes some odd noises sometimes – especially if the bag is clogged.

I even worried the motor was going to die for awhile, but many hours of sanding later it’s still going strong. 3. The switch is covered in a flexible rubber membrane. Sometimes when I’m wearing gloves it’s hard to turn the machine on.

Other reviewers mention the switch sometimes not working – maybe this is what they are experiencing? To be clear the switch is working, it’s just that it can be hard to push in all the way.

After pondering between this model and the one without variable speeds, I decided to pay the extra $20 and go with this one. I’m glad I did! I bought this with the goal of refinishing a wood banister that had been covered in polyurethane, my goal was to get it down to bare wood so I could paint/stain it.

I am female, and this was the first handheld power tool i’d ever used beyond a basic drill! There was almost no setup involved, and the sander felt very durable and easy to hold. I was able to find a variety of different sanding discs that will work with it, too.

While using the sander, I had no problems whatsoever. At first, I only used the lower speeds out of fear of losing control, but it turned out I was worrying over nothing. Even at top speed, one hand will keep you on track (although I advise using two, and both hands will fit around it quite well.

) I was even able to control it enough to sand the 1/2″ sides! The lower speed was very useful when I used 60-grit discs to take off the initial layer. The wood was warm but nothing was uncomfortably hot.

The material came off reasonably quickly and without much trouble – the banister had rounded edges and a wide, flat surface, and to date there is no evidence I used a power sander! The random orbit kept everything smooth and even.

There was some dust left on the floor and floating in the air, but the attached bag did catch a great deal of the mess. I had been skeptical of changing out the pads, since some people have complained about the velcro, but I had no issues.

Just be sure to hold the pad close to the sander as you pull it off, much like you’d remove a painful Bandaid. Now that my project is completed, I can’t wait to find other uses for this sander. When you’re done, it fits right back in the bag, ready to go again anytime!.

I chose this model for its compact size in spite of 2 year old reviews which complained that the dust bag attachment comes off during use. I hoped that problem had been fixed. Either it has not or this model had been in inventory a long time! The vibration causes the bag attachment to separate from the sander body often within seconds of starting the tool.

After using the sander for a couple of hours holding the bag on by hand, I decided that I liked the sander and put a tiny screw on each side of the attachment. Problem solved. It is hard to believe that such a simple problem exists on a tool by Porter-Cable!.

35 years cabinet/millwork/carpentry experience. i can finish anything when it comes to woodworking, paint, lacquer, 2 part, poly/varnish, hand rubbed, etc. having the right sander for the right finish is key.

this is my arsenal which includes the makita BO6030, BO4900V and 9924DB. makita BO6030, 99% swirl free sander. balanced, quiet, quality and made in UK. makita BO4900V, very impressive! just as good as porter cable (USA model) 505.

really like grip on top. primers, sealers and in between coats, i use 320 grit and man talk about smooth!!! MADE IN JAPAN! makita 9924DB i prefer rear handle over top handle. this is my 2nd 9924db, gave my old one to my best friend.

still uses it at his cabinet shop. its over 20yr old. MADE IN JAPAN! other models to find, “MUST HAVES!” porter cable 303, 505 and 7336 older models only MADE IN USA, some of the best quality and finishes ever! not the hitachi metabo new crap. one of the best dual action sanders ever! FESTOOL ETS 125 decent 5″ sander for face frames and stiles and rails. i own a lot of festool. meh ok for today’s standards, bets china crap, but not as good as old school tools.

bottom line BUY QUALITY! yes some of my tools are china crap. ALL companies nowadays uses some parts outsourced from other countries. so when you find tools made in the USA, JAPAN, SWITZERLAND, GERMANY, buy’em buy’em buy’em they will last a looooooong time and make you $$$$$!.

Glad I bought this sander. Good solid equipment from makita. Not used it yet but I know it is top quality as I’ve used a similar style sander several years back. A good bit heavier than the palm sander I’ve been using recently, but a lot more durable and steadier than the various styles of air sanders about.

And a lot less noisy. A good length of electric cable attached to the sander, a good quality head attached to it very flexible. Looking forward to giving it it’s first use and consigning the palm sander to the back of the cupboard.

Makita make good quality tools, so I know this will last for years. Also got an Allen in a holder attached to the cable for when it’s time to change the sanding head Well pleased with the purchase.

I’ve owned this Orbital for over a year now. I use it with Diablo sanding pads. It works well for all my projects and the variable speed is great. Not too heavy so you don’t press too hard on wood or coated projects, and works reliably.

The dust bad is easy to clean with a vacuum, and there is really little or no maintenance to it. I have a M18 Milwaukee Orbital I haven’t used yet because this one is still my preferred tool of choice going strong.

I just know how it acts and the results I’ll get from it. Easy to control, especially with the side handle, and the storage case is perfect. The handle really makes a difference. All in all, it should last a long time even with my rough use and was well built which is why I chose this one over others.

I have zero complaints and only praise.

The WEN electric 1/3 sheet sander is one of those tools that is essential for every home workshop. This tool comes with a handy easy access “on” switch on top of the tool. It has a nice design with a paper clamp which locks the sandpaper in place.

The kit comes with one piece of sandpaper and a dust collection bag. The bag is very easy to attach and empty. The sample paper was easy to attach with the Velcro design. The tool only weighs 3 pounds, so the sander is lightweight enough to handle during many types of sanding projects.

The sander has a 1. 2 amp motor which is plenty strong for household use. Included in the kit is a complete printed instructional manual which provides a phone number for technical support, email, and a link to WEN videos.

The WEN brand stands behind their products with a one year limited warranty. This is a very nice sander, suitable for gift giving for anyone who collects power tools and enjoys woodworking projects. My husband was thrilled to try it out by sanding off old paint on wood trim requiring touch up.

It worked just perfectly and removed the paint in a minute. The sander is not noisy and did not require excess pressure to gain a perfect result. I would highly recommend this product.

Love it! Just the right size for small household projects. Being a corded model was definitely the right choice for me so power stays consistent, unlike rechargeable ones.

I was able to complete the job intended. I actually cut the nose off the upper front in order to sand my kitchen floor in the area where the cabinets overhang a few inches. It was quieter than I expected and easy to load the sand paper.

The one drawback was that almost no dust was collected in the small collector bag that came with it, maybe because I messed up the air flow when I cut off the nose, even though I did tap the hole I had created.

It also came with an adapter that could be hooked to a vacuum cleaner; I didn’t get around to trying that option.

I have always used vibration sanders. I wanted to try a random orbital sander. I love it. I’m female so I look at power tools a little differently. It’s not hard on your hands. Yet it’s powerful. Doesn’t mark wood like some sanders do.

Love the velcro pads. Easy to change. Highly recommended.

I use this with a very fine finish in a buffing like mode. When sanding I have two, the other a Makita. The Makita seems to have a more aggressive attack and I use it with more course papers to work a project down.

so this Bosch is used as a finisher before hand rubbing. It has an awesome vacuum system and blows the dust out the tube very well. In fact the best I have encountered for dust removal. You must use the attached bag/paper filter with it, or the supplied attachment with your shop blower.

I use the shop blower. Dust is my main concern in my shop. I suppose this Bosch would also work as an aggressive machine as well, I just use it for finishing, and it does an awesome job. I have no cons other than the fact it could use a more forward hold down for the second hand for support.

Otherwise, no complaints. I like both my machines for sanding, each with its own purpose and both work very well. This sander is one of my better buys. I do recommend highly. I do scroll saw work and need to fine sand, sometimes with up to 1000 grit papers.

The Bosch sander works well for this. A fine machine.

I have more than my fair share of orbital sanders – 4 of them at last count. (accumulated over years, and several special jobs). On the basis of the latest review of this product in Fine Woodworking’s tool edition, and since I had most recently a sanding job requiring a light touch, I went for the German-designed Bosch for 4 reasons: (1) To avoid numb hands; on the basis of long hours of use; (2) The Bosch sander is quieter (by about 10-12 dBA); and the swirl pattern at ~ 2 mm is smaller and tighter than the DeWalt brand’s similar orbital sander (also variable speed).

(4) The dust-vacuum port has an integral O-ring to help keep the hose better attached for vacuum assisted sanding (which I do -connected to a Karcher vacuum) using a hose adapter. They’re both Hook and Loop type sanding machines; the Bosch has an 8-hole pattern, thus marginally better dust collection.

We purchased this to refinish our dining table top. We found the sander to be efficient and easy to handle. An earlier review was critical of the dust catcher, but ours worked very well. We did the sanding indoors and saw only a little dust on the table.

Perhaps it has been re-designed; it was not an issue for us. My only negative comment is the expense of additional sanding pads.

I needed a new palm sander as the disk bearing on my old one wore out. Didn’t want to spend a lot of money as all I really needed it for was to sand some sand paint from the walls of a closet. I mean who puts sand paint walls? Any who this sander worked great, not only was it low priced compared to others but its pretty powerful.

I have a few summer projects that will require sanding surfaces, and I saw that this item was on sale at Walmart, so I jumped on it right away. I just tested on a small surface, and it worked as expected.

Make sure to buy extra sandpaper disks with different grit numbers.

This is an exceptional sander. I had doubts to the effectiveness of the “Turbo” option but it truely does effect the sanders operation. This is done by adding additional force to the random orbit function, enough so you will need to make sure you are hanging on to it.

While in the normal sanding mode it is very well balanced and although it appears bulky by its length, it balances nearly perfectly over the head so that it can be handled like any palm sander just a larger more effective platform.

I have been a Bosch fan for many years and own multiple other pieces and this has to be one of the best.

I have been working on a boat project for the last 9 years. I have worn out four 6” random orbit sander from another brand. A fellow boat restorer who mentioned how great the Turbo Mode is for removing lots of material.

The gear-drive modes really increases the amount of material that is removed for the same number of passes using dual action mode. I wish I had known about this sander years ago.

I was debating between several turbo sanders and decided on the Bosch. I wanted to have a 5” one as then I’d be able to use the same sanding discs as my normal orbital sander. Very happy with performance, works great and has excellent dust collection.

I’ve had no problems with it whatsoever, but I’d like Bosch to create a mount to be able to hand it on the wall, I’ve looked at some 3D printed ones but none seem to work perfectly.

I bought this unit about a week ago so there hasn’t been very much use but two things come to mind when I think of it: The clips to hold the paper seem to be barely holding on. Paper hasn’t come loose yet but I think it will eventually happen.

Other reviews seem to have indicated as much. The lock-on/lock-off switch is very useful. Holding the paddle switch is a bit awkward for long stretches of time – the switch helps The Punch plate is a nice touch.

Saves you from having to randomly punching until you his the right spots. The other odd thing is that the sample paper they give you does not really match the holes for dust extraction. My guess is that it wasn’t designed for this unit in mind.

It still works but maybe not very efficiently. I will have to try a second piece to see. I have only had the unit for a short time so will write another review if it falls apart or something else. One last thing: the sales price at CT, which I paid, is the normal price at other hardware stores but they don’t carry it, it’s an online only at other stores.

The sander feels good in your hand. Unfortunately it chews through same paper either the latch style method of securing it to the head. The vacuum is a nice feature. Price is alright.

I was looking for an affordable sander, this one came on sale and I bought it, it works well and is pretty quiet. The only problem was that the ad only showed the top of it so I couldn’t tell what type of sanpaper sheets it needed.

As it happens Canadian Tire had a sale on the sandpaper too, but by the time I picked up the sander, the sandpaper was all gone.

This sander has worked very well for all I want it to do. I first used it to sand parts of my deck for refinishing and it did the job easily. I then used it to sand down a railing that needed refinishing.

Again great performance. My one and only issue is with the dust collector that pops off sometimes while I’m working, especially on a vertical surface. I read some reviews that said it wasn’t powerful enough and it would stop when you pushed too hard on it.

My response would be that you don’t need to push that hard on this machine. IT does the work, YOU don’t have to! I have owned it only a month, but to this point, I would definitely recommend it.

Purchased this sander for a project that would have involved constantly changing cordless sander batteries. The dust attachment works well for small stuff but removing it and pairing the sander with a shop vacuum makes cleanup a breeze.

The ability to adjust sanding speed is a huge bonus. Strong and durable, it’s a very welcome addition to the tool shed.

This product solved my problem as an artist painting in the medium of egg tempera. To produce the correct ground on which to paint is a long process, making handmade gesso, coating the wood, sanding it as smooth as porcelain before applying a further 7 coats in succession each needing to be sanded.

Plain elbow grease producing several panels is a nightmare without the use of this amazing tool. Thank you so much.

I bought mine over 20 years ago. I have used it enough to wear out and replace the pad. My biggest project was building a pair of 5′ x 6′ gates to block my driveway. My smallest include a pair of oak ice boxes and a bathroom storage cabinet that were sanded down and re-stained (NOT painted).

I also built a 3′ x 3′ crawl space cover out of 2″ x 6″ Redwood. Again, it was stained, not painted. And so many other projects I cannot remember. This is one of the power tools I use the most. Never failed me.

After burning up a cheap sander from Harbor Freight thought it best to dig deeper for a good one. This one does all you want as far as sanding but: The switch is awkward to work especially with gloves.

Dust bag is about useless. Holding clamps don’t rotate far enough up to easily change sandpaper. This thing has a powerful motor & I sometimes put loads of pressure on it but it still keeps digging so I like it overall.

Would I buy it again? We’ll see.

I sometimes have to change out the bottom bearing and have taken them apart for repairs. I have interchanged the Porter Cable parts with Dewalt. It is the exact same internal parts, Identical. Different look and name, same quality and less expensive.

Give this sander a chance! I picked up this little sander five years ago and it has handled my small odd jobs very competently. Have never needed to replace the hook & loop pad in that time (unlike with other sanders I’ve used; looking at YOU, brand that rhymes with “Bill”…).

A lone gripe is that the dust collector is held on by a tension-fit rubber ring, so if you bump it the thing goes flying. However, it catches a good quantity of the sawdust. THEN I got the bright idea to refinish my floor.

Don’t worry, I rented a drum & edge sander for the bulk stripping of paint and finish – I’m not completely nuts. But I had to do some patching and only sanded up to an 80 grit with the rentals, and I was too cheap to rent the big guns a second time.

So, I turned to my trusty Ryobi. In the course of this big project, my Ryobi was a CHAMP. It did 3-4 passes of my nearly 900 square feet of floor. I hooked it up to my shop vac for extra dust collection, but otherwise it was all the Ryobi.

I had no business using this little sander to do a floor, but it powered through and is still going strong. When (if) it ever dies, I wouldn’t even think of getting a different sander. My little Ryobi has proven itself in the fires of DIY Renovation.

I bought this sander with the intension of sanding my kitchen cabinets and painting them. The sander performed well. The only complaint I have is that the little vac bag just blew off and never stayed on, that is why I gave it 4 stars.

I just didn’t bother using it and just cleaned up the mess after I was finished. For the price it got the job done.

Great working with fiberglass. Charge the sander (by not sanding) until you hear spinning rpms get high (5 sec) and you’ve got a momentary edger, grinder or sculpting blade (2-4 sec). When rpms are low it becomes a solid reciprocal sander.

Great for shaving off lumps of fiberglass then making it all smoov baby.

Dewalt. Great little palm sander for finishing touches. If your are going to be doing heavy sanding use a sander. I have been a Dewalt Fan since I got married and my dad made sure I had a 4pc Dewalt Kit Jobsite Radio to Match.

He wanted me to have quality tools since so was a newlywed 1st time home owner. Dewalt has only gotten better over the last 20 years. The batteries have gotten smaller lighter but the have 60x more power.

They make high quality products that preform and are super durable and quality. It’s worth the money to have quality tools. Yeah you can buy much cheaper tools at Harbor Freight that have a “lifetime” warranty.

So that means you will be spending you valuable DIY saturdays in line returning a junk power tool for a new one that will last ten minutes and once again your driving back to exchange. Buy quality and buy Dewalt.

They are the very best power tool available in my opinion.

I hummed and haw’d on this forever before purchasing. I needed a new sander to refinish furniture with, so it was very important to find a good sander, that worked, and that didn’t leave marks like my old square sander did.

I like the corded version, because I always forget to charge things. It works way faster and way better. It really exceeded my expectations. A dresser that I had which would usually take me an hour or more to sand down with my old sander, took me about 15 minutes with this one Oh, and the sanding paper discs are a dream! So much better than the square sanders.

Overall, I’m very happy with this.

I bought this sander to do small projects around the house. I was sanding a wooden disc about 3 inchs across so lots of back and forth. I replaced the first piece of sandpaper after spotting it on the floor.

It had fallen off the sander. Then nothing else would stay on the sander As soon as I turn it off the sandpaper flys off. Really really annoying to say the least. This was the DWE6423K. So where do I buy a new pad seeing as the first one is so smooth as it will not hold anything?.

The finish that I achieved with this cordless orbital sander on day one of using it, is amazing! Took a little getting used to the power of this little unit and needed to dial down the variable speed setting for my application.

Paired this with 3m Cubitron II sanding film disks 180 grit and the surface feels as smooth as glass!!! I have spent a lot of time researching and trialing various brands of cordless woodworking tools.

It is very important to me that the tool fits my hand and is light enough for me to comfortably handle and that the work is done by the tool!! This Milwaukee Random Orbital Sander ticks all of the boxes!! Although, I have no idea how to open the accompanying dust collector unit without brute force? Any suggestions?.

Power and variable speed are good. Having it Cordless and hose less are nice. But, the hook and loop pad is junk. After about 5 sanding discs it was worn out and no longer holds sanding discs. Also, if you are sanding anything that isn’t just one flat surface you have to be careful which way you are holding the tool.

If you twist and turn the wrong way, any sanding dust that is in the canister will be blown back out of the tool and all over the place. It would be nice if there were a one way valve of sorts there to prevent that from happening, aside from a vacuum hose being hooked up of course.

It would also be nice if it came with an accessory or alternative pad to accept the adhesive backed sanding discs.

Unboxing this little M18 sander gave me the first glimpse of the vacuum / dust trap assembly. The odd shape and fit with the battery sandwiched between the body of the sander and the dust trap just added to the mystery.

The vacuum attachment is pretty straight forward but I had work to do, that’s why I bought it. The enclosed 3. 0 battery was charging so I grabbed a 5. 0 off the shelf and it slid right in the pocket and we went right to work.

The adjustable speed is a welcome addition to palm sanding and the 5 amp battery provided plenty of power to sand and refinish the door I was working on. Wound up emptying the dust collector several times so the Packout vacuum is next on the list but the odd shape of the assembly just wouldn’t get out of my head, however running this sander for about an hour straight stripping and finishing that door taught me that an odd profile doesn’t hinder balance and feel.

Face it, the dust collector looks like the buckhead of the Apollo moon lander but it’s not in the way and just plain works. Now the old Porter Cable will get retired and an M18 vacuum will be getting ordered pretty quick.

Definitely recommended.

Quite noisy (or so it seemed outside early on a Sunday morning!). More effective on a flat surface compared to one that has been warped by the sun – particularly it it has thick peeling paint – but I suppose that is to be expected of a flat sander compares to a random orbital one.

Gets into corners ok. Vibration is not excessive. Powerful motor. Dust bag collection not all that good. Yes, the lead is a bit short, but a lightweight extension lead overcomes that. Overall I am very satisfied, but I will probably get a random orbital one too.

I have 2 of these sanders and I couldn’t be happier. My favorite part is the collection system. I admit I don’t know how the designed it but it basically works as a vacuum while sanding and almost all of the dust is collected in the attached box that fits very well.

It is a much better sander then any others I’ve used. So far I’ve built al new kitchen cabinets with these and sanded a 12×20 foot deck with absolutely no complaints. Very happy!!!.

Bought one of these in 2016 specifically to refinish a 18-1/2′ canoe. I spent MANY hours removing old epoxy down to the carbon fiber cloth, so I had to go slowly. This unit performed very consistently and had plenty of power.

I had done a similar job with an older Dewalt that had been my go-to for years, but it left me tingling for quite some time afterward. This Bosch sander’s vibration-dampening really works and the elongated palm grip is so much more comfortable than the more common square or round styles.

After hours of use, my fingers and hands don’t ache like the older sander used to cause. Palm sanders are meant to be used with a light touch and this one excels in that department. I also like the hard dust collector, although it’s not for everyone.

I managed to crack it when I let the sander fall off a workpiece and hit a hard/sharp object, but that was my fault. I’ll replace the collector as I much prefer it over tha bags that always leak or eventually tear and are sometimes resistant to being emptied.

Additionally, the hard collector can be quickly washed out (and dried!) with ease, unlike the soft bags. I happened to catch this during a big sale, so I consider it a steal-of-a-deal.

I’m building a small boat and needed a sander to sans epoxy and fiberglass. I got this one because it can hook up to a vacuum cleaner, a function that I so far haven’t even needed since the built in filtration is great.

Speed adjustment is nice, the firmness and spring back of the base is great, I’m able to sand lightly or heavily as needed. I’ve used it for several hours straight without fatigue, so it seems the ergonomics are good as well.

I received this as a birthday gift in February and finally had a chance to use it today. It’s a great tool for a number of reasons. I’m impressed with the long and flexible power cord. Old tools came with short plastic coated cables that didn’t flex when cold.

This cord is covered in a rubber like casing that stays flexible no matter how cold it gets. Sandpaper is easily attached via 2 intuitive clips and the dust collector does a pretty good job containing the bulk of the ultrafine wood dust.

A great addition to my workshop.

Good overall palm Sander. I am happy with it. Replaces a Black and Decker on I had for years that died when the cardboard sleeve on the shafts finally disintegrated. I hope this one doesn’t have cardboard parts.

So far, it works good. Makes a hell of a racket (sound) and sometimes, if you tip it, it will blow sawdust into your eye and high speed. but I guess that’s to be expectes.

Filters much better than sanders with those cloth bags for filters. Feels very solid in your hands but not too heavy. Only used for some light sanding in my workshop so far but we’ll see how they hold up over time.

No issues with “used” looking products being shipped like in some other reviews but there was some fine sawdust inside the boxes upon opening perhaps from storage. Inside the filters were clean. Overall, very satisfied.

It works more powerfully than 1. 2 amps may imply to some. I was amazed by the smooth surface my wooden project received after only a few minutes of using the sander for the first time. I had thought it wasn’t working correctly at first because there was no real show of sanding dust evident anywhere, on the table I was using to sand on, nor in the air.

I decided to empty ti vacuum bag it comes with and was shocked. There was a great deal of dust within! Clean up is wonderfully easy, as there is hardly anything to sweep up, or wipe up. So basically just wrapping up the cord and placing the items used back into the case is all that is required.

They are generous with the sanding sheets, and pads, which I was also very surprised at since most items for sale these days seem to require more attachments sold separately to get an outcome one desires by the product purchased.

I still can’t believe the low cost of this sander. The value exceeds the cost of this sander, and that is something I never expected to say about a product I purchased ever again. Ryobi Corner Cat Sheet Sander is quality at its BEST!.

i have small hands. this little tool fits nicely in my hand without being too weighty. and of course it comes with a bag to catch the sanding debris which you can wash. i love that it has a case to store it in and just for extra love they give you a bunch of sanding paper in different grits.

overall its wonderful for the price.

So this thing is heavy. Let’s get that out of the way up front. There are only three corded ROSanders with a forced rotation mode and I’m pretty sure they are all heavy. Let’s get over that and move on.

I bought this to help strip years of old paint off a 110-year-young house on the Northeast coast. I couldn’t help but use it in a cabinet project, though. Right out of the box, slap on a 220 grit disc from Big Orange, plug it in, and slide the switch (already was on forced rotation/Turbo mode).

Plenty of power to finely sand and reshape some drawer rails. But wait, what’s this? I had it on the LOWEST speed setting! Turning it up to 6 allowed me to flatten and refinish a hardwood cutting board WITH 220 GRIT PAPER in 5 minutes.

Yah, it’s THAT good. No need to switch from heavy to fine grit papers. For a final sand, just turn off forced rotation. Makes the work go VERY quickly in the shop. I won’t use it for finer, smaller jobs.

It’s just too heavy (I have a 5″ Bosch ROS for that anyway). For everything else, this will be sitting on the end of my bench, waiting.

A new Bosch 1250 ROS probably deserves five stars, but I purchased a refurbished model so that’s what I’m reviewing. It was delivered in an unopen, non-descript box, happily bouncing around by it’s lonesome with no attachments, bubble wrap, tools, or manual.

I slapped a new 6″ disc on and immediately went to work on an antique walnut table. It stripped the finish with no problem, using 80 grit discs, but it had a little trouble leveling the high spots of the old walnut top.

not the sanders fault, just hard, old wood. The sander is quite loud, and the shop vac increased the noise level. Dust collection was good. The issue I have with the sander is the noise of what sounds like bad bearings.

It didn’t have a smooth sound like my less expensive, weaker powered Bosch 5″ ROS. I should have purchased this sander new. This is my second Bosch refurbished tool in the last month, and my second disappointment.

Refurbished isn’t as reliable as it used to be.

I have been working in the boat restoration/fiberglass fabrication field for over 20 years. I abuse tools and frequently kill them in weeks, not years. I have owned, and regularly use, this tool for the last four years.

To be clear, this is NOT a random orbit sander; it is a true dual action (DA) sander that has a random orbit gear for fine sanding and a rotary gear for aggressive sanding. It’s an important distinction because most sanders are simply random orbit.

In my line of work I need an aggressive tool that can handle 24 and 36 grit grinding discs for grinding and shaping fiberglass and I need a finishing sander that can handle 400-1000 grit finishing discs for gelcoat and metal polishing.

This tool can handles both. In fact, it outperforms many of the dedicated tools that are industry standards. In addition to it’s robust versatility, one of my favorite features is the 12′ cord, which minimizes the amount of time I spend plugging and unplugging and repositioning cords as I work my way around a boat.

It is not without its faults though. When using random orbit setting, if a surface is too rough and too much pressure is being applied to the tool, the clutch can pop out of gear. In these situations, I have learned to hold my thumb on the toggle that keeps it in random orbit mode.

The dust extraction port requires a coupler for most standard 1″ shop vacs, rather than the 1″ hose fitting the extraction port directly. In rotary mode on a rough surface, the tool can overpower the user causing the tool to “chatter” on the work surface resulting in gouges.

This much power isn’t a drawback, but it can take the user by surprise if they’re not expecting it. Even with the drawbacks, this is a five star tool, one of the very few. A comparable tool is the Bosch 6040, which I owned for 3 years until it was stolen.

There are no other comparable 6″ D/A sanders for it’s ruggedness and versatility.

Like other reviewers have said they had some sawdust on them. The box was sealed when I purchased them and they look new otherwise so I assume it’s from when they were manufactured. Maybe they test them before selling? Anyway, not a problem as they both have been working great.

Vibration isn’t too bad and the noise is tolerable with protection on. Yes I would recommend these but still ended up using my belt sander first to remove the majority of material.

Low noise and low vibration. High quality loop and hook pad. Feels like quality in the hand. A small amount of dust escapes but a vacuum hooked up would solve it. 1yr warranty should be 3yrs +. Can’t foresee problems but peace of mind with 3yrs would be better.

I got this combo for much less in store special so I’m pleased. Didn’t need the sheet sander so have it for sale. If variable speed is needed then look elsewhere but this suits my needs.

My trusty Makita palm sander died after nearly thirty-five years of use. The Makita “Never” firmly gripped the sandpaper. I would have to readjust the placement of the sandpaper on the pad many times during a project.

When the Makita died I thought to replace it with a new Makita from Home Depot at $49. 99. In my city, Harbor Freight is located less than one mile from Homedepot. The Hercules palm sander was on sale for $31.

94. Both have the same size sanding pad. Both arrive with a perforation tool to pierce the sandpaper for dust collection. The Hercules, unlike the Makita, firmly holds the sandpaper in place for the duration of the project.

It gets better! The Makita has a basic rubber sanding pad. The Hercules sanding pad is “Hooked” allowing for the fitment of looped-backed sandpaper. Think “Velcro”. This sander costs less, performs better, and has more features than the Mighty Makita! Hercules, Hercules, Hercules!.

Easier to control than my Milwaukee equivalent. It doesn’t chatter and buck like the Milwaukee. The one picky item that kept it from being a 5 star review is that the pad is about 1/16th of an inch longer than what is convenient.

The paper clamps grip at the extreme edge of the paper. Any mistake in misalignment of the paper or if the paper is not sized exactly right and the clamps won’t grip the paper. Extreme care must be used to insert the paper under the clamps.

For me, starting with the back clamp is easier.

I tried out a new building maintenance gig in Hollywoid,Ca. Our job was to get 100yr old apartments rentable again. In doing so, reconditioning the wonderful wood floors was one of many tasks to be accomplished quickly and repeated multiple times throughout the week.

Thus sander has power you need, delicate control on the edges. It’s also easy to add fresh paper and at the end of the day, at least for me, it left me grinning. Go get one and see how good they are!.
