Much better value than the Bosch offerings I also looked at and does not need those more expensive Velcro pads as it uses regular sandpaper that you cut to size. On my last sander that was Bosch the Velcro pad got overheated and melted so I could not get the sandpaper off without ripping the pad and the Velcro no longer worked, so the Bosch sander became useless.

This Makita sander even has a aluminium base so should hopefully last ages. Another nice feature of the Makita is it comes with a plastic jig for punching the sandpaper holes for dust collection so you can cut a new sheet of sandpaper attach it to the sander with its sprung clips then just press the sander into the punch jig and all the dust suction holes are cut.

So far cannot fault it and much quieter than my old Bosch too.

I bought this to replace a 1/4 sheet sander. This is much easier to replace the paper and holds it securely. I find that my paper is lasting longer. (The 1/4 sheet sander required me to tuck the paper around the plate making 2 90 degree folds on each end.

The paper was tearing long before the grit had worn away. ) The machine is light weight and easy to handle. The 1-star reduction was because of the Home Depot delivery service. My shipment was late. Watching the tracking, I saw my item go clear across the country (to BC) before making its way back to me in Ontario.

This is a great sander. It’s quiet as it can be. It’s easily the quietest 1/3 sander I have ever owned. I’d been using B & D sanders all this time, and this is beyond compare. It firmly holds the sheets and makes quick work of smoothing or shaping wood.

The bagger is mildly affective at catching the dust, if you use the provided hole punch. I don’t mind saw dust, and do the majority of my sanding outside. I’m just a hobbyist, so this machine is awesome for me.

This is an excellent buy for anyone hobbyist. The 1/2 sheet version is quite a bit more expensive. It’s so much more expensive that I do not know if it’s worth the extra money to pay for it. This is an excellent value.

Would have rated negative three stars if available. Does not hold a sheet of sandpaper. Locking mechanism is inefficient. Bag meant to hold sanding dust doesn’t work at all. Horrible waste of money. Should have known not to buy a cheap product.

My fault. But don’t do it.

Pretty handy little sander. I needed it for corners and edges when sanding my stairs to repaint. It got the job done. It had the power to get the paint off an was great value. It’s just little smaller than the regular palm sanders so if you have a tiny detailed job you may want something a little smaller than this but saying that it got all the corners I needed.

Before I bought a DA sander I tried everybody else’s at work. Dynobrade vibrates too much and is loud, Ingersoll Rand (IR4151) same picture. Tried just about every kind until somebody let me use a Hutchins.

Seriously it doesn’t get better then this. This is the best DA out there and they last a lifetime. One of our techs had his for 30 years and it still works great. 4500 and 3500 is basically the same sander only the 3500 is lighter.

They’re both 3/32 orbit but trust me it knocks down bondo like you’ve never seen before. It’s really quite and doesn’t vibrate a lot. I use mine every day and I love it.

I have done body work for 20 years. always used sanders with handles always had vibration. my last sander was under $100 and die within 30 min of use. I never experienced a da sander so little vibration,noiseand the 3500 has more power.

I absolutely love the fact that I bought these new Porter Cable tools and my 12 year old PC tools are the same design and batts are still compatible. I will be buying more for certain!

No battery included. This was understood but creates additional expense. When a battery is put in place that is more than a one hour battery the sander becomes heavy on the battery side. This results in digging in on that side sometimes.

There are no handles to be comfortable but the location and operation of the on/off switch is tough to manipulate at times.

Time saver with it being portable. Has power to complete the job. Very satisfied with it.

So I bought this for the restoration of a couple of old victorian panelled doors, so nothing too taxing and with the right sanding pads it rapidly removed all traces of paint and gave a very smooth surface for repainting.

The Velcro backed Makita pads stuck like glue to the sander and were a bit hard to remove so they stayed put – don’t know if this will last. It is noisy/loud but that’s to be expected and there is little vibration felt in the hand so very comfortable to use.

Did not use the small dust collection bag but had it attached to a vac and there was little dust to speak of so the small holes below seemed to be enough to remove wood dust.

Works fine for very small projects but since you have to hold at a 15 degree angle completely defeats purpose of what I thought would be a larger sanding space due to 5 diameter. Since its size and the dust shroud I use restricts it from getting into spaces and corners or using flat (major bummer) this really cuts down on utility.

Bought for paint remediation project and to use with a dust shroud on clapboards and steps which is how i read about it (no fault of manufacturer or seller). But the rpms are way too high and powerful to use safely on wood.

I cannot believe this is supposedly used on clapboards. Maybe can retrofit with sanding pads but then why not just buy a cheaper sander. Cannot use on anything but the hardiest wood and have to be super careful and so light you end up not accomplishing much and it takes forever.

Easy to leave deep gougesthis thing cut grooves into concrete steps. I am not a pro but have tons of experience renewing and working with wood. First time using disc sander though so others can correct me on this.

I would have been better off with a variable speed angle grinder and been able to accomplish more jobs with that tool over this very expensive disc sander which is too powerful for what I needed without enough surface area (takes forever) and cannot get into tight spaces.

My advice is really know what you want to use it for. If youre like me and thought you could use it for paint remediation, its just not what I expected. Nothing wrong with the tool itself. Very powerful.

Again just not what I expected. I understand these are used to polish glass and for that fine work I would expect it to be excellent.

This tool was bought for peeping siding for paint, my 120 year old house has developed a need to grind a few layers off the siding. With 36 grit you can do a 3 foot X 3 foot area in about a minute. The Makita sander has enough power to tear through the work.

Yet its light enough to use on the side of a house from a ladder. I own heavy two hand grinders too, I have never been disappointed with Makita tools. And Yes you can use 7/8 hold 5 discs with this tool, ( Makita sells 5/8 hole discs with the tool).

Extremely hard to control at highest speed and grits and impossible to control at lower speeds and grits. Moves around on it’s own with such a force that you cannot control it with your hand. Also leaves swirl marks all over the wood.

The build quality is great and dust collection is superb but for this price you really want an amazing sander and not just an amazing dust collector at your hand. Makes no sense that a sander performs so bad at this price.

I should have returned it when I could, about two years ago. Wanted to give it a second, a third, a forth. chance and still get frustrated every time I use it. I’m going to get rid of it.

I was looking for a small sander to finish chairs with, I read these reviews and purchased the Festool as a result of the negative comments here! I was pretty happy with the Festool until a friend purchased the this sand, it is noticeably better, ergonomically it is leagues ahead! I now find myself always borrowing the mirka! If you can afford the Festool spend a bit more and get a much better sander.

Also for it being too aggressive with coarser grits, it’s a finishing sander!.

I bought this as I was looking for a lightweight sander for overhead work, the Deos seems to be the lightest on the market. As a sander it is excellent, it is amazingly vibration free in the hand and does a great job of stock removal.

My only concern is that it comes with 4 metres of extraction hose which I do not need and does not fit my Festool extractor. I feel I have had to pay for something I will never use and don’t know why it comes as a bundle (presumably the Mirka extractor already has a hose ?).

Also, I tried the bluetooth connection but although it connects it doesn’t show speed and vibration, I think you may need to pay extra for that. So having gone off piste with a non Festool product I have some regrets (difficult to connect the extractor and the mains connector is a bit clunky), but the weight and quality are redeeming features.

I bought this as I am a fan of Hitachi/Hikoki tools – I have a belt sander and a cordless drill. But this tool is not equipped with a loop and hook base plate (although this is supposed to be available as an accessory).

If you’ve got a lot of sanding work to do, you have to be able to change abrasive pads rapidly. The larger size of abrasive pad to fit this tool (around the clips) – with punched holes – is very difficult to find.

It’s not satisfactory to have to punch holes in your own roll of abrasive. So I sent this tool back – unused – and bought a better, dual-equipped one – clips and velcro. By the way, if you thought this was manufactured in Japan, you’d be wrong – it’s made in China.

I bought this after my Black&Decker sander that served me for many years died on me. Some months ago I used floor sander to sand the floor boards throughout the house. I didn’t manage to varnish it all at once and left one corridor.

After about 10 months of use it become dirty. I used my Black&Decker that died on me mid work. I had to find something quickly and this sander caught my attention. After visit to B&Q and comparing few sanders decided to buy this one.

It offers 1400 rpm! Felt pad underneath is thick and looks like it will last Small and compact, easy to handle Punch plate is made of metal, unlike some other brands The only downside is that it doesn’t come with hoover or dust extractor adaptor, instead I just Gaffer taped my hoover to extract the dust.

Not used the dust bag supplied so can’t comment on that part. It is nice, compact, well made sander that looks like it will last. When buying sand paper please make sure you buy strong one. Cheap sandpaper will rip very quickly.

This is the third one of these I have had. Change of brand name otherwise identical. First one lasted 15 years! Great tool. The baseplate padding is felt rather than rubber on this one,maybe itll last better.

I have a Bosch random orbital sander (ROS), but a good sheet sander still has advantages: 1. The sandpaper is dirt cheap. Sanding disks for an ROS are a loonie. A sheet of good sandpaper is maybe a quarter.

2. The square base of a sheet sander lets you get into corners. 3. For some jobs (e. g. , sanding between coats) an ROS is too aggressive. You can sheet sanders for as little as $20-30, but I went with the higher-priced Bosch one because it has about the best dust control I’ve seen.

It leaves behind no visible sawdust. Dust collection isn’t as good as my Bosch ROS, but it’s way better than any budget sheet sander. You will still want to use an N95 dust mask for the really small (micron-sized) dust and abrasive.

You can also hook it up to a Shop Vac with a 1. 25 inch hose and you won’t have any sawdust. Put a HEPA filter in the vac and you don’t have to worry about the submicron particles and can skip the mask.

Really easy to use, I like the dust containment system because it works well and is very easy to clean. It isn’t too heavy and doesn’t fatigue your hands. I only gave this a good rating because when you sand near the edge of a piece of wood the paper rips.

But that could be because of the paper I was using and not necessarily because of the sander. Bosch is a good brand name and I would recommend anyone to purchase this sander.

This is a terrible sander, the worst that I have owned. It’s very difficult to control, particularly with coarser grits. I bought this to sand small chair components and it’s next to useless. So bad, that I contacted Mirka technical support because I was sure that there was something faulty.

A rep came round and assured me that it was functioning correctly. I have nothing against Mirka, their support is excellent, their products are generally well designed and made; but this one is a dog, avoid it.

I never thought sanding could be so enjoyable. Ive got the Deros too with the extractor. It pays for itself within weeks. Sands so well with such little pressure. Buy one. You will not regret it.

Very happy with purchase having had a cheaper Macalister that struggled with anything but the basic jobs and needed sanding discs replacing very quickly costing a fortune. Decided to spend the money and get a decent brand and it is worth every penny in comparison.

Used the Makita discs which have lasted much much longer than the previous model. The only slight disappointment is the dust collection bag that is no better or worse than the cheaper model. Overall would highly recommend and only wish I had bought this one in the first place.

Good sander for the price, as always with Makita tools it’s well made and very quiet. I like the fact it comes with a sandpaper punch so you can buy regular sandpaper and punch the holes yourself. The dust collection bad isn’t great, but better than not having one at all.

There is one sheet of sandpaper in the box, which I think is a bit tight of Makita – a mixed pack would have been nice. Also maybe a case?? It comes in a standard cardboard box.

I’ve spent my entire woodworking career using Porter Cable sanders. Porter Cable’s quality has been falling past few years. I bought a new one last year. It died in less than a month, Porter Cable replaced it.

That one died 13 months later. One month out of a 12 month warranty. So, it was time to find a new brand, and I bought this Makita. Overall, I’m very pleased with it. It feels good in my hands, and has plenty of power.

I have other Makita tools that I’ve been very happy with over the years, and this sander fits right in. I would recommend this belt sander. Plus, I shopped many tool stores in my area and searched online and Rockler had the best price.

To say I’m happy with this so far is an understatement. For the price I paid on-sale, I could buy 3 of these before I hit the cost of the comparable Makita sander I was leaning towards. But after using it a bit, something tells me that repacements won’t be necessary, and this one will far outlast what I would normally expect from a power tool at this price-point.

This sander is the right size and capabilities for the jobs I need to do. I’ve only had mine for a month, and used it a few times, but it has worked very well so far. I was a bit skeptical about the velcro pad for attaching discs, but I’ve been pleasantly suprised.

Disks stay in place even under occasional heavy pressure/friction forces. My first use for this tool was sanding down some drywall seams, and then giving the primer I sprayed on the new drywall a light sanding to even out my rookie spray-job.

I was expecting the usual “dust everywhere” mess from that job, and I couldn’t believe how well this unit’s dust collector worked! Very little of that unbelievably fine, powdery, drywall dust escaped, which meant less time cleaning up after the job.

I used my son-in-laws Dewalt orbital sander two weeks ago at his place. Since then I needed an orbital sander to finish two 6 drawer oak cabinets. I shopped around, pricing several orbital sanders, including Dewalt.

I decided to check out Harbor Freight. I bought this Bauer Orbital Sander for less than 1/3rd the price of other brand name sanders. After sanding both cabinets and all 12 drawers, I wouldn’t but anything other than the Bauer.

I read some of the reviews, specifically complaints on the dust collector. My dust collector worked great. I’m very handy with tools, and found this tool well designed, including the dust collector. I’ve learned some people are incompetent in using tools.

I suspect that is why some people can’t make this tools dust collector work!!!.

This is a great sander! I’ve used an even smaller sander to get details however it didn’t work very well and had to use my hand or even this sander. I like that it bags the dust from sanding. I also like that it is fairly easy to replace the sand paper.

There are also a bunch of different kinds of sand paper and you don’t have to get the more expensive sticky kind. It isn’t as good for big jobs like a belt sander would be however, but for smaller jobs that have not a ton of small detail this would work great.

I used it to refurbish a cabinet and it worked just fine. The power on it was great but you do need to apply pressure and apply it evenly or one spot may get sanded more than another. Also you need to move in a circular motion if possible you are able to sand it a lot better if you do this.

It is really loud, but I don’t know how you can get around that. Be sure to wear some type of ear protection or your ears may ring for a while after using it. The button to turn it on isn’t the easiest thing to push but it does work just fine.

Maybe that is a safety feature so you don’t accidently turn it on or something.

This 1/4 sheet pad sander is solidly built with different size openings in the dust collector section for various size vacuum hoses. When you want as little dust as possible use a vac with it. The dust collector bag works OK by itself but a with a vac attached is much better.

I don’t use a vacuum with it unless absolutely necessary because the hose gets in the way and makes it clumsy to use-as would any sander with vac attached. The sander itself is basically like any other quality sander and the paper attachment clips work efficiently as they should.

It is fairly comfortable to use with no more or less vibration than other similarly priced sander. It seems sturdy enough for professional use and fits in well with my orbital sander which is also Dewalt.

I bought this reconditioned for a good price and it comes with a 1 year warranty–if you want 3 years buy new. Also the case is handy protection for the sander, paper punch, with various grits of paper stored in a slot made for them.

I have no complaints- I will use this professionally and may be harder on it than a home user. If there are any problems during the next year, I’ll come back and rewrite or make additons to this review.

For now, all seems well.

Product arrived with a damaged outer box (Thanks UPS) but an intact inner box (Thanks CPO). Sander feels heavy in your hand, which I think is good. You don’t have to apply much pressure to your working surface.

The dust collection is fair, not great. It may be I’m comparing it to my old random orbit sander. The unit is louder than expected. Ear protection recommended.

I have another Bosch tool with the same battery, so it was a no-brains decision to choose this right angled drill. It feels good in the hand, is solidly constructed, and I like the trigger, which reminds me of an air ratchet.

It has a torch, too, which I hadn’t noticed in the spec, and immediately benefitted from. With only a 12V battery, it’s not hugely powerful, but don’t let that put you off. In just the last few days, I’ve used it to cut a large diameter holes, drill some smaller ones, and unscrew things that would have been impossible to access with a conventional drill without a lot of dismantling beforehand.

As a get-you-out-of-trouble card, it’s a very useful tool to have in one’s arsenal.

The sander doesn’t hold the sand paper even when I tried different solutions to it, the grips just don’t hold it tightly and gets loose making the work impossible to finish. I thought I was doing something wrong but then I searched online and it happened to other people as well.

Don’t waste your money in this. I ended up finishing the work manually and today I’m going to Mitre 10 for a refund.

For the first few times I tried it, it worked fine, then all of a sudden as soon as the sand paper touches the wood it starts sliding off the sander. I tried many ways to fix it in place but the paper just wouldn’t stay fixed.

Will take this back for a refund. Not happy with the product at all.
