20 Best Sand For Under Pool (2023 Updated)

This sand is very fine, smooth, and soft. I have purchased 25 lbs of this sand for various projects, and It works for me every time, I love it!

DO NOT BUY THIS. 1) Zeosand will stain your pool water. This turned my balanced pool to a milky green color. No amounts of shock cleared it up. I followed the instructions to the letter, took apart my filter system (1) to clean it, added the Zeosand, backwashed until clear, and rinsed but the water was very cloudy.

I though that it may be user error so completely took apart my filter system (2), cleaned it, opened a new bag of this trash, I followed the instructions to the letter again, backwashed until clear again, rinsed again, then drained for 45 minutes just to get water whiter than milk in my pool WITH a little extra.

2) Zeosand will come out of your filter and get everywhere. This stuff is so awful that it will by-past your filter and get in your pool. I left this thing to run overnight, hoping that the filter will clear up the milk/water mix but in the morning not only was my pool water an odd green/white color but there was a ton of Zeosand on the bottom of the pool.

I only realized this when my pool vacuum damn near choked to death. It took over 3 days to get it all out. I had to take apart my filter (3) and clean it out. 3) Zeosand will BREAK your filter. So if your keeping count, I had to dismantle my filter system 3 times.

3 times I completely cleaned out the system and replaced the sand twice (2 bags wasted). At some point, more than likely when the Zeosand was filtering into the pool, the Zeosand got into everything, every hose, every cap, the pool and just to spite me, the control valve.

This killed my filter. I had to waste a 3 day weekend, 50 pounds of this trash, tons of water and 350 dollars on a new pump/filter and regular pool sand. Thankfully my new set up was able to clear up the water with zero issues.

Save yourself some money, time and heartache and get some regular sand. Avoid this junk.

AMAZING!! First off people need to rinse and when i say rinse i mean rinse ALOT! I rinsed this stuff in buckets till the water was clear and the sand took on a green hint in color! We filled our 22×52 pool with our well and our well is Full of iron and have always had a problem of once adding shock it turned a nasty green/brown color! Well after adding the zeo sand to our filter in 4 days and lots of backwashinh it was crystal clear! No extra chemicals needed! This is a must buy sand for people with iron problems in their water! Just make sure to rinse rinse rinse before adding to your filter!.

I tried this product after reading reviews and it does not work well. I had issues with the pool turning green during the initial start. I back washed multiple times and finally got our pool in a working state.

Throughout the summer, I had challenges with keeping the water clear or keeping the water blue. In my 10 years of operating our pool, I have never had to work so hard to keep it clean. Constant backwashing (at least every 2 days) and brushing.

I should have listened to our pool technician. Last night, I finally switched to Red Flint sand and all is well again. Avoid this stuff.

I can’t stand the smell of smoke but my spouse still smokes. Using this product, once cig is put out – it’s out, doesn’t smolder or stink.

This product was amazing! I was skeptical that it would actually work, but the directions were clear, I watched a youTube video for additional advice and then I went for it. I will admit that you can find he area, but only if you are looking.

At first, it was bare concrete – the cool decking had peeled off in several large areas. After I used the product, I am confident that it is a good fix and will not continue to peel. The color match was very close but I did have some hazy white areas around the patch after it dried, I scrubbed with a brush and I think I could have removed the haze but I decided to paint it.

I went to the paint store to have them match the original paint, and just feathered it on – it is really invisible. Getting the texture right is the hardest part, so practice first. You can do it – and it is much less expensive than the alternative!.

Too dark. Much darker than similar products

It was not good. Paver sand was used as first time application for newly applied pavers. Followed application directions but experienced severe clouding of pavers after drying plus some streaking. The paver sand between the pavers appeared strong however.

To our surprise it required a second complete power washing which eliminated some, but not all of the clouding and left all of the streaking. It plus some of the paver sand between the pavers. We now need to do a third power washing which may or may not completely work, plus manually apply more paver sand in that lost from the second power washing.

It has now become a very expensive and time consuming effort. I can’t imagine going back to this product again. After 24.

This is a wonderful product, BUT. the color is way off. I ordered Camel and it was much lighter than expected but fortunately it looked nice. I felt the bag was mistakenly mismarked and that it contained light beige rather than Camel (yes it was that light).

The company was wonderful and offered me a 15% discount on my next purchase. I still needed to finish my project so in accordance with the color chart and what I already had between the pavers, the most accurate choice to make was the Ivory, because on the color chart it shows as a beige color.

Unfortunately the Ivory turned out to be a bright white and I had to then buy a concrete stain to darken it to beige to match what I first put in. So my conclusion is, this is absolutely wonderful product but their color chart is way off and it’s very easy to make a mistake when ordering, so please be aware.

If they make their color chart more accurate, I would give it 5 stars.

I recently added Dominator polymeric sand and LG+ sealer. I am a novice and found the products easy to apply and my 5 gallons would have gone the 2000sq feet. It is just a labor intensive and time consuming process.

Sealer was sprayed with simple household sprayer and lightly backrolled. Watering the sand was most challenging. Too much or little water and it will not cure right and I had some movement of the sand due water runoff so some think areas and others thin.

Its been a week since completion and I now hope the product holds up the five years. My rating is based on product application not on product quality over time. Protect your home, grass, sidewalk. The pre-work power-washing, and adding paper and masking tape took most of the time.

That and sweeping the sand into the grooves. So far I recommend. Hope I can do same in 5 years. I only needed 1 bucket of sand but opened both so I can not return – that is a waste of my money.

We bought the Aqua Quartz sand for our pool filter last May, 2021. We have had nothing but problems with our pool since then. This year, finally on July 30, 2022, we bought the Zeobrite sand. I think we have used this in the past.

We bought the wrong sand last year. But, we have confidence in the sales people in the store.

Horrible. Don’t buy it to use with intex sand filters. 7-22-22 Pool went cloudy within 2 days using this. Switched to hth pool filter sand. Pool is clear In 2 hours. This has huge granules but just doesn’t work.

I purchased this based on the reviews and was the only sand I found on their website. I was told by my pool tech it would not work and would put sand in my pool. I contacted customer support and was told they considered sand a chemical and I could not return and no refund.

I lost 100 dollars. I have no words.

I was chairing our daughter’s Fall Fair at school and needed to come up with some good ideas for craft activities. I thought about sand art bottles, but I had no idea how much sand I would need. Other vendors only sold little packets and much more expensive.

This package was terrific. It had great variety and we filled 72 sand art bottles and could fill 72+ more. Great product, great value.

We have small vases that we pour individual colors of sand into. As a name of a loved one is called the family/friend is asked to come up and pour the beautiful colored sand into a large vessel. This sand makes a wonderful display of artwork.

We have a very small in-ground pool with jacuzzi spilling into pool. We just went through hurricane Sally. Power off 5 days with no circulation in pool. Stains began to develop and call In the swim for advice.

Super stain away advised. We use well water to fill pool. We live close to Al coast and mostly sand. The water from well in super clear and taste great appears cleaner than bottle water from store. Being the pool circulation was off for extended periods and greening & staining.

We used 3in chlorine tab to assist with 1lb bag of shock. With in hours horrible green and yellowing/brown stain covered the walls and floor. Guess tablets pushed the chlorine over max causing green.

Replaced as much of the water with city water but very little affect. Mixed 3/4 bottle of stain away and distributed as recommended. 72 hrs no change. Mixed remaining contents of stain away, and distributed.

72 hrs later no affect. Tried super blue clarifier witch removed green but stain remained. 2 months bright sunny days and pool temp dropped below 63 and stain slowly went away. ITS super stain away just didn’t do the job.

We use an indoor hot tub in our basement during the winter season and city water seems to foam a little with the chlorine we use. Defoamer is out of season at our local stores. One capful solved the problem for 300 gallons.

Great product at a great price.

I have been in the pool industry for over 20 years and this product really cleaned our sand filter like it said it would. we were having issues with algae and the minute I added the product to the sand filter and followed instruction, the pool has been sparkely clean.

I would recommend using this first before getting a professional to check system.

Stopped working after only 2/3 of a season. No problem. Under warranty. Right? WRONG! Clearly eligible for warranty. Approved for warranty. 2 1/2 months later still no pump for pool. Now season is over.

Multiple calls to company get same ***. no parts in stock. So the warranty is USELESS if they don’t fulfil the promise of a warranty. This is regarding the 16″ sand filter and pump. I also own the 12″.

It too has had problems. So quality is an issue with INTEX. Also the purchase of 16″ was due to 12″ not being powerful enough to circulate and keep pool ***. its only a 7500 gallon pool. SHOULD have been plenty.

But was not. So purchased 16. WHEN ***. it is a solid system. Enough power for an 18′ round above ground. But since it isn’t working and INTEX has not fullfilled their warranty obligation, my family has lost most of this year for swimming.

Based on their inability to stand by their products, I would HIGHLY recommend staying away from this brand. And PLEASE, before anyone thinks of using COVID and supply chain ***. and labor or whatever other excuse INTEX has ***.

if these issues were ***. then how have they been able to continue to sell the same pump on Amazon and their own website this entire time. ????? One would hope they would take care of their current customers instead of screwing us over in order to sell the units to new customers.

As one who truly enjoys writing positive reviews ANYTIME they are ***. this is NOT how I would rather spend my time. But as a customer multiple times over regarding INTEX, I feel it is important to warn any potential new customers just what they will probably be dealing with if they purchase an INTEX product today.

This pump was purchased to build an 8-foot stock tank pool. It arrived well boxed with no damage. Taking the items out of the box and getting everything hooked up was fairly straight forward. Everything you need to get a stock tank pool up and running is in the box except the kit does not come with an inlet fitting.

So make sure you get a inlet valve when you are setting everything up. Once I got the system hooked up, I ran into the second problem. The website and instruction manual indicates that this filter takes 50 lbs of sand.

Which would be a single bag. I had to use one bag and a fraction of another to get sand in the proper fill range. Solving this issue was simple, so I kept cruising along until I hit the third issue. The third issue is I have weather proof in use outlet boxes for all of my outdoor outlets.

If you do not know that these are, these are outlet covers that have a box that opens, you can plug in your electrical item, and there is a slot for the cord to come out while you close the box, so everything is protected from the elements.

The plug that is on the pump is a plug with a built in GFI, which being around water is a great thing. The issue arises when you go to plug this plug into the outlet, and the plug is longer than a standard outlet box, by about 1/8 of an inch.

This required me to dremel out the box just enough to get it close to fitting, and then hand filing the rest while checking frequently to make sure the back end of the outlet fit perfectly through the side of the box and there was not a gap for bugs.

Or that you have dealt with all of the minor foibles of getting everything set up, let’s talk about the pump and filter. The pump is strong, moves bunches of water, and is surprisingly quiet. The instructions are clear and simple to follow for the initial backwash and how to set it to start filtering.

The timer function is a little clunky, but it comes with a timer and it functions well once it is set, and since this is a set it and forget it type of function, it works as intended. In summary, this is a great pump once you get everything going and it appears that it will work well.

My wife is happy with how quiet it is, and in a 8-foot stock tank it generates enough of a current that if you are floating, it will slowly spin you in a circle. I would recommend this system to a friend.

I took off one star for not including an entire system in the box (i. e. inlet fitting), having to get 2 bags of sand, and the plug issue.

I have to warn anyone who considers spending their hard earned money on a product that only has a 6 month lifespan tops. It worked great for the first season (July -Sept) and were happy with how it kept the water clear.

At the end of the summer we cleaned out the sand put it away dry as if it were packaged new. We set it up again the next season and it would not turn on. The display was blank so we checked the outlets with other appliances and we had power going to the pump.

We read all the trouble shooting tips and the directions and trust, me we tried everything. I was all ready to contact the manufacturer but miraculously later on in the day while it was still plugged in we heard a beep and it suddenly turned on.

It ran fine the second summer (3 months tops) after it finally tuned on. At the end of the year we put it away again clean and dry. This year we took it out and set it up again and the same issue. Plugged it in and the display is blank.

I left it plugged in all day waiting to see if it would somehow turn on again but it wont. The led control panel is completely blank and will not turn on. What a shame it is that 1 month after the warranty ran out, it is now completely useless and will likely make it way to a land fill.

The pool is filled now but we have no pump, we are forced to look for another all over again spending even more hard earned money. I have been reading here that many other people are experiencing the same issues and have tried to contact the company but never getting any response.

This product is clearly defective. It is such shame and a complete waste since the problem is probably due to some 2 cent cheep electrical component that renders this pump useless.

I bought these thinking I’d save money and give my daughter the same sensory experience. Absolutely not. It’s clumpy and not anything like it should be. I bought a small package of the real stuff- HUGE difference! It’s awesome.

Do not waste your money on this one.

Lookd alot like wet beach sand, very nice to make sand castled indoors. Was expecting alot more sand. 5lbs. Is very little. Fits in 2 sandwich ziplock baggies. The inflatable sand box is about 16×16 not deep at all.

Although my toddler kept trying to sit in it but he looked like a giant. It comes in a plastic container with lid but mine arrived broken i have no lid obviously it wasnt packed properly so it wouldnt move around so much.

otherwise its good. Just wish i could have seen more pix of the item would have gone with a diffrent one.

Brought sand for childs sand box was more than enough. So much it was on my front porch. So I had needed an exfoliation I had some dead skin and was treating it with aquaphor and went on porch the wind blew sand right to my face and I rub it and it helped clear my face.

I had no irritation from it. But don’t go slathering it on you face unless an adult lol.

Liked these bags for filling a kid’s sandbox so that we could have nice clean sand. Needed 40 of these 50-lb bags to fill our 6×6 sandbox which is about 9 in deep, so took two runs to farm & fleet but the guys in the yard were great at helping me load them in the truck bed.

Sand seems really soft and good for packing. Only downfall is all the garbage from 40 of these empty bags.

We bought some of this sand for our kids new sandbox. My son was wearing jeans while he played in it and my daughter hand on leggings. His pants were fine- I could brush the sand right off of his jeans.

My daughters leggings, however, were horribly stained. I guess we’ll have to have “Sandbox clothes” that they only wear when they are out there.

Had to return the product and buy a new bag. Our bag arrived with a huge hole in the side. The bag was in no packaging other than the product package. Sand inside a plastic bag. So over 1/2 of the bag was missing by the time it arrived.

Sand was all over my garage where it had been delivered. I can only imagine what the delivery truck looked like. Went in store to repurchase to make sure the sand was contained. Sand worked well in the filter.

We have the intex 24ft with the sand pump. When sand was delivered we were excited to get started! Please know the 50lb bag is not enough for that pump 🙁 We went to the pool store near us and was surprised to find it was significantly cheaper there.

We used about half of the second bag so you need 75lbs to get started. Happy swimming everyone, stay safe!.

The pool filter silica was perfect and and it was very clean. I didn’t have to pre rinse the sand before using the pump.

Initially, I failed to purchase this product at the Sauve Street outlet (Montreal) because they had none “in stock”. I had to settle with a local brand of “Kiln Dried Sand” by A. Boudrias Inc. and thought that I had scored a real deal because the Home Depot site listed it a only $3.

00, which was cheaper than the Quikrete Sand listed at $6. 85! However, I inexplicably needed to pay $9. 18, at the cash for the A. Boudrias stuff! I bought it anyway and came home, opened the well-sealed bag of this A.

Boudrias, so-called “Kiln-Dried” crap, and discovered that it was soaking wet and it must have contained at least 5% to 10% water! They must have mistakingly placed the sand in a sauna and not a kiln.

The next day I was able to find the Quikrete sand at HomeDepot’s St. Henri outlet and was delighted with the quality of their sand! Super Fine Grain & Very Dry!!! Great buy!.

We used this sand to fill in our offset patio umbrella base. The sand itself was quite sandy. Small, dry, coarse … a lot like sand. Not suitable for consumption (learned that the hard way).

Amazing Sand for the SandBox! It is the color of Ft. Lauderdale beach sand but Really soft. It’s great for making sand castles or digging. My son loves it. It’s a really great price. It’s a better price then most others and a better quality product as well.

Very disappointed. This is nothing like sand, it’s finely crushed gravel, the dust is not good for kids to breath in. Do not buy this sand. Literally scraped my own knuckles on the grounded rocks hu just running my hand through it.
