20 Best Sand Bath For Hamsters (2023 Updated)

I think this is a good product, but make sure that you put it in a large, shallow, dish. My gerbils kicked it all over the cage, and it is dusty and messy. Now when I use it, I put it in a sandwich sized shallow container, and only use it when they are in the playpen to keep the mess down.

They don’t need a very deep layer to clean themselves. They seem to enjoy rolling around in it!.

No good for their respiratory system which can cause serious harm. This product has caused my hamster to lose fur. Seriously avoid this and use plain reptile sand OR ordinary children’s play sand (this just needs baking first).

Pets at home are awful for hamster products, cages, bedding etc.

This was a big hit with the gerbils, only thing is, it’s a bit on the pricey side. It comes with quite a bit of sand, but when you actually pour it out, you can see how much sand is actually being used for your animals’ litter/bath.

Other than that, my three gerbils love this product! They love playing in the sand and bathing in it. A big tip to save sand is to get a sieve and simply sieve out the dirtied sand and/or feces. With that, the sand can last quite a while, but make sure to change out all of the sand once every month or so for sanitary reasons (that is, if you keep their bath in their tank 24/7 like I do).

The sand also gets a bit dusty over time, especially when you sieve it out, which is why it should be changed out at least once a month. Summing this up, however, I do recommend this sand, especially for gerbils.

Also, if you do have gerbils, make sure you get bathing SAND instead of bathing DUST, which is potentially harmful for their lungs and respiration.

I loved the size of this dust bath. I’m hoping that the shape and size of the hole on top will help keep the dust inside where it belongs and not all over the crate like my old dust bath bin. I have two chinchillas, and they both share the bath comfortably.

It’s an adorable bath house and our chinchilla loves taking baths in it but it’s made completely of plastic. You should never give chinchillas unsupervised so the don’t chew it. We watch our Chin and take away the bath if he tries to chew on it.

If it was made of anything but plastic so you could just leave it in the cage a few minutes and let your chin take a bath it would be 5 stars.

I got this for my Chinchillas as I was told it was a wonderful Dust bath to use from three different chinchilla owners on their pet instagrams. I’m glad I ordered it. The way the chinchilla is standing in it in the display picture makes it look kind of small, but there’s a good amount of room for your chin to roll around in its dust to get clean in.

My favorite part is the dust then stays inside the bath instead of become airborne everywhere, as I’m an asthmatic. This saves on wasted dust too! My chins love it, my little man looks like he’s driving a space ship when he stands in it.

It’s easy to clean, saves you money in the end and keeps the cage and surrounding area cleaner than any Dust bath I’ve owned.

My chinchilla loves this dust! As soon as I put it in he scampers on over to take a bath! It’s adorable! I love the texture of this dust it seems less ‘dusty’ than other brands. The price is reasonable it’ll past a long time! I highly recommend buying this product for your pet!.

My chin was refusing to bathe in kaytee branded sand. He went absolutely crazy when I switched to this sand; he loves it! The sand it self feels fine and smooth and has no odor.

I always have purchased the oxbow brand but one chin literally didn’t use it. I would have to hand wash her and she hated that. I put this in their bath house and she didn’t want to leave! So happy to find a brand that they all actually like now.

I also think it makes them look cleaner.

Product arrived on time, well made and as described. Our hamster loves it.

Gerbil needs sand baths, but it’s very difficult to find sand not dust. Fine particles are bad for their lungs. Even Chinchilla sand is too fine. This is least fine sand I have found so far. All the other sands I tried before were in small packages that didn’t last for very many baths.

( I leave it in their cage 24/7 and change when dirty). This tube of sand is much bigger than it appeared online and quite a lot of sand in it. It should last quite a while.

I have a dwarf hamster and he struggles so much trying to get out of this sand bath Ive hand to fill it 3/4 up with sand and buy additional wee bridge to help him get out! If you had a regular hammy Im sure this wouldnt be an issue.

J’ai appelé le SAV pour effectuer un retour sauf que après 7 minutes à attendre dans le vent en attente j’en ai eu marre et j’ai pris finalement l’initiative de mettre huit vis à bois pour visser ensemble les deux parties du couvercle.

Ceci permet maintenant d’avoir un couvercle entier par contre pour tenir le couvercle a dû être vissé sur le reste du bac. La fonction première du bac reste donc rempli mais cela reste dommage.

This is a very nice punch for the price and should hold up well. Accessories include a ruler, sharpening tool, screwdriver and spare anvil. Good grips, too.

This is probably not chewy’s fault, and this is a good product for chinchillas, but when my chewy box arrived, there was chinchilla dust on every item in the box and all over my floor because the lid popped off during shipping.

Oxbow needs to really seriously consider more secure packaging, such as a plastic wrapper that goes around the lid of a jar. That was quite the clean up job.

I purchased this due to the ratings. people said it was better than Kaytee brand and didn’t create as much dust in the air. While this may be true, Poof dust has also been very clumpy and I’ve had to dump it out more often.

I’m going back to Kaytee, but now I have a whole jar of this. :(.

My chinchilla loves this dust. It makes his fur so clean. I love that it has little sparkles in it too. I give him a dust bath twice a week. The sparkles last on him a few days making him seem extra clean!.

So I bought this for our baby chicks to dust bathe in and it is AWESOME. It’s big. Purple. So cute. Not an eyesore and definitely big enough for a chin or hamster etc but we’re using it to dust bathe baby chicks that were born over Easter.

It’s awesome for that too. Def best dust bath container on market. Supppper happy.

As some reviewers mentioned, mine did not come damaged and the dust was not glued to the house, just taped so it came off easily. My chin loves it and it does what it’s supposed to do. Plastic is bad for chins to chew on so I supervise her while she is using it to make sure she doesn’t chew on the plastic.

I absolutely love this dust! It is mid-range pricing and my chinchilla loves it. I like his dust in particular because it gives my chin a sparkling, fluffy coat. I want to get this for a second time, but it is out of stock on Amazon.

Little one чистит мех шиншиллы хорошо, немного пылит, но так и должно быть – мелкие частички пыли проникают в густой мех шиншиллы и впитывает жир, который портит вид и мешает коже дышать. Нормальный песок за адекватные деньги.

I have been using this bedding for many years for guinea pigs! I used to get the brown natural one until 2 years ago. I opened a bag and almost puked. It had the same odor as the really cheap brown paper towels in a kindergarten school bathroom, but a lot stronger.

I decided to try the white one. I used that for awhile until I got a bag that also had that strong smell. Next, I switched to trying the multi-colored bedding. That worked fine again for awhile until all of a sudden they also had the chemical smell.

The smell from this last bag was so strong EVERYONE in the house had a hard time sleeping. It’s similar to formaldehyde when trying to breathe, but has a terrible poop-like smell. **We all got sore throats and had a difficult time breathing.

It even affected my guinea pigs. They stopped making ANY noises for several days. ** We finally gave up after a few days of hoping it would air out or we would acclimate to it. We had to buy some other stuff and change it.

I saved the unused bags of bedding. I’m really afraid to buy any more of this bedding after what we experienced.

I’ve always heard great things about Carefresh so when my usual Kaytee bedding was out of stock I decided to go with this one – and I’ll never do that again. I bought three bags and the moment I opened two of the three there was a massively strong chemical smell to the point I had to use an air purifier to clear some of the stench from the room.

The bedding was also very hard, as if it had been wet at some point, crumbled up, and left to dry with no care. I ended up buying some Kaytee as soon as it was available to mix in with what I had used because the smell was still way to strong for me.

I still have the last bag sitting and plan to leave it laying open for several hours or days before I use it with the next bedding change, which will primarily be Kaytee or another bedding. I know I might have gotten a bad batch, with both the chemical smell and the hard pieces, but considering I’ve since seen quite a few people with the same issue I’m inclined to think it’s more likely to be a bad warehouse or manufacturing plant that these are coming from.

We’ve been purchasing the white 60L size Carefresh bedding for my daughter’s rabbit for the last 8 years. However for some reason when we received our last Autoship delivery, the bedding was no longer white but brown.

While this didn’t bother me (or the rabbit as far as I could tell) it did bother my wife and daughter who said it had a bad odor. I just looked and it appears that the white formulation is no longer available in the 60L package and more expensive than the brown.

Something must have changed because we always order and receive the white version in the 60L package (it’s been one of the items in our Autoship forever) but now it’s only available in the 50L size. I’m guessing that the price must have increased and Chewy, instead of providing us with the new, smaller 50L package, must have substituted the 60L brown instead.
