20 Best Salt Blocks For Horses (2023 Updated)

I’m really hesitant to write a review for this salt, I really try not to feed Himalayan. I prefer white salt that is just “salt”. You get what it advertises and I quit buying this sometime ago because of all the impurities in it but I need to get something extra in my horses and because I can’t find white that I can hang well here I am.

And to add my horses get white table salt daily.

My walker loves hers! I was a little worried because I’ve always purchased her the peppermint-flavored blocks, but she changed stalls at the barn. With no holder on the wall, I had to buy salt on a rope.

Sierra took to it right away, and she’s already licked it smooth! It’s cheap, too!.

I’ve bought these before and my horses have always loved them. You have to rotate them or one side gets too thin from licking and might break through the hole. I wish it were more clear on how to use the rope to hang it; it comes tightly wrapped around it but I was unsure if there was a “proper” way to do it.

I just undid the rope and tucked the ends in and hoped my horses wouldn’t be too rough and knock it down. So far they haven’t.

I had been looking at the 22 pound block but was skeptical based on some reviews. Bought it on sale to give a try. My main concern was how it would hold up in rain, as the ones on a rope dissolve really fast.

I had the block out when we had torrential downpours that caused localized flooding. This block held up! I keep it on the ground, not in any holders. I don’t know that I’d pay the $40 that it normally cost, but maybe, since it does seem to hold up well.

And the critters (ponies & bull) have chewed the corners, so it must taste ok.

I bought this for use in my horses pasture. He’s turned out 24/7 and the block goes in a rubber feed pan. He always dumps it out and plays with the pan and the block has remained solid and formed after storms and being on the ground most of the time.

I will continue to buy this brand for that reason!.

My horse loves the natural rock version of this salt, but licks it for long periods. He definitely has been enjoying this block version of the Himalayan salt, but is not consuming it as quickly. The block is easy to hang and completely homogeneous.

Its very well-made. Definitely worth a try.

I have a larger 10lb block for home, my horse loves them, just started using this smaller one to take to hot summer horse shows. No special buckets or brackets needed, I have a snap attached to the rope and it’s super easy to hang, then just throw it back into the box and toss in trunk for the next show.

My horse won’t touch regular salt blocks. He loves this one! The rope that comes with the salt is strong enuf to withstand my horses’ energetic and playful behaviors!

My boys love this salt. I give it as gifts to all my horse friends & family. They too are amazed by how much their horses enjoy it. Just try it 1 time. you’ll never buy another rough 50# block of white salt again! Did you know a horse’s tongue isn’t made for licking that type of salt?!!.

Love it. I put it in my horse?s hay bin because the one I had on a rope was stolen. This is perfect because he can get to it while he is eating his hay. I would recommend it to anyone.

Deer are always in my yard eating my plants and compost but they did not touch the rock salt! Im surprised based on the info I have read on rock salt and the fact that it was hung next to the compost.

Maybe they were tempted by compost instead? Maybe because I hung it on a fence instead of tree? Not sure. It slowly dissolved by all the rain we have received. I bought 2 so will hang the other from a tree branch.

The compost is covered now. We will see.

These are an important part of each horses stall items. It keeps them busy and lets them get the amount of salt they desire. The price was very low so I bought 10 of them. Your products are simply the best and customer service even better.

Gatsby Himalayan Rock Salt 7lb is so necessary during these hot summer days! My horse enjoys her salt lick and it is evident that she uses it!

Bought two one for each donkey stall as metal ones always rust and break off and bricks fall out. Just tad small for bricks from TSC but going to try to shave off two edges Of bricks see if bricks will go in.

Both ends of my bricks are same size. Would return but not worth spending another shipping fee. Also noting product description says guaranteed lifetime unbreakable but merchant notes replying to some reviews states guarantee of five years.

That doesn’t make sense.

If you are looking for a simple salt block holder, this is it, and it even comes in several color choices. The salt block fits in it well — just tightly enough, but you can still tap it out from the bottom if you are careful (without destroying the entire holder).

The corners are rounded for safety. Easy installation, too! Did you know that salt blocks are tapered? Remember to put the small side down when loading the holder. Nice, inexpensive and durable.

Bought 8 of these for holding white and mineral salt blocks in the run-in sheds. Holds the small salt blocks securely. Was easy to put up. Will keep the salt from melting in the rain and snow in the ground holders.

OMG, this is definitely horse-crack. My 3 horses are obsessed with licking this block. It’s hysterical since none of them have ever been introduced to a salt lick before! Seems to be holding up pretty good in the rain, too.

My horses love this salt block! I also prefer purchasing this rather than the typical salt blocks because this is salt from the Earth. No additives, no processing, just natural minerals and the way salt is supposed to be, making it a healthier option.

We’ve used Himalayan salt licks for some time now. my horse likes them a lot 🙂 We’ve always gotten them from different sources, feed stores, online, ect. The Hilton Herbs brand seems far superior! My horse still had a little wafer of his old one left when we put this one up.

right away he tested this one out and was licking “yum yum yum” for ages! He has used this brand of Himalayan much more than the others. good boy! If you check online, the Himalayan salt has mineral content too.

it’s weird this brand only wants to declare the salt. calling it “sodium-chloride” can that be accurate(?) since in natural forms sodium is separate from chloride and the two are only combined in processing.

Himalayan salt does have chloride too, but it is weird to refer to it as if it were a processed product. All in all, I really prefer this brand. I’d only like to see a more complete label. it would be nice to see a detailed mineral analysis on the particular vein this brand sources.

Something has to make it better tasting than the others! :).

I dug a hole, and laid the block on it’s side, only expose the top of other side. The moisture from the ground helps to make it a mineral site. I put it out late August/early September, and they deer visited that spot till February, when I pulled those cameras.

I put a new one in this year, and they are coming right back to that spot. I bury it, because the 25 pound blocks get pushed all over by the hogs if you don’t.

Good product! Our donkeys love this mineral block. It seems to be good tasting, and it lasts a long time. It’s good for them when they aren’t able to eat natural grasses. Highly recommended!

This Purina Senior feed is safely putting wight back on a rescue 20+ year old mare that was forgotten about and starving. She literally licks the bottom of feed trough to get every pellet. I love the fact that I can put soaked hay cubes with this and it make it easy for her to eat, digest, and gain weight.

This mare is getting healthy front the inside out. Her stall dropping are getting firm from runny when she arrives less than 2 weeks ag, her eyes are bright, and shes running in and out of her stall to greet the ther mares when they come in.

Wonderful feed. Truly saving lives.

We buy one of these about once a year for our 3 horses and 2 donkeys. Keep it under the overhang on the bank barn so it doesn’t get wet. They all love it. Lasts a year. For the price? Excellent value.

The cattle seem tolerate winter months better when they are able minerals whenever they want. Have used these blocks for the last 10 years. Tried others but these work the best.

Does it’s job. Decent priced. The goats lick it. They get the minerals they need. The end.

I have a horse and a mini donkey. Both of them love the mineral brick. It’s very important for them to have too! Helps them consume more water. I highly recommend it!

Morton made a much better salt brick. These break apart in holder and more is wasted then my horses use!

Easy way to add Selenium to the horses’ diet. We include it with the other salt and mineral blocks in the pasture for the horses and cattle.

My goats and cows love this mineral block. It provides them with essential selenium.

My friesian filly absolutely LOVES these! However, they don’t last even a half hour with her. They aren’t super hard and she just bites off chunks of it instead of licking it. The grain version of the refills lasts much longer, but she doesn’t like them as much.

My horse is on prolonged stall rest, so I upped his toy count to keep him occupied. The Likit holder is hanging in his stall away from the walls, and I wondered if he would be able to actually lick it.

No worries! He figured out how to balance the Likit holder just perfectly so that he can lick the flavored part for as long as he wants. So far, molasses was his favorite but mint and apple have disappeared quickly too!.

I had bought my OTTB mare a Lik-it, and at first she completely ignored it! I figured out that some horses have to be “introduced to them” so that is what we did, wet it a little, showed her where it was and let her lick my hand.

Well, she still couldn’t figure it out and I thought maybe she wasn’t a lik-it gal. As a last ditch effort, we took the top off of the plastic holder and VOILA! She figured it out. She loved the mint and the apple flavors.

If anyone is having trouble or there horse seems to ignore them, try introducing it to them and even taking the top off. She prefers it this way, but does go through it quickly!.

Great quality salt block. Sturdy and long rope. My Quarter Horse loves it. Tied it in his stall and he has something to “play” with and lick. With these high temps this summer in Ohio he needs the salt and minerals.

I got these for my horse but after giving it an experimental lick I am buying a few more for around the house. With the convenient cord and hole I can hang this bad boy over my stove so I can grate a few flakes into a soup or roast.

It has that great salty flavor we’ve all come to love but with the convenience of a giant rock of it rather than having to fumble with measuring spoons or awkward containers.

I always have Hymalayan salt blocks for my horse. She loves them and they last a long time. My goats have taken a liking to them, too! The blocks are very healthy, too! I have been buying them for 13 years at twice the price before i discovered Chewy carries them!.

I was disappointed that this salt block didn’t have the circular cut out (it’s actually shown in the photo, but the actual product doesn’t have it). It makes it very wobbly in my salt block stand.

The labels are stuck on with too good of adhesive! The label has to be removed before going into the brine tank at it takes a razor scraper to remove it. The last batch I could peel off. Otherwise blocks are clean and good.

I use this myself. I break it up and fill my salt bottles in the house. It’s cheaper than buying the bottles. I fill all of my shakers and it lasts a year or more.

My 22 year old horse colic?d, & was dehydrated. Had to have vet out. Was suggested to get electrolytes to add to food. My sister & daughter researched & found this. I add to both of my horses feed & add water in 8 quart buckets to give to them, twice a day.

Urine output is down. It has been very hot here in Oklahoma, & this is working very well. Highly recommend this product.

These are small and they prevent waste in my barn. The xtra shipping cost is out of hand. The cost of the product is $3. 99 which is great. The xtra shipping is $9. 60each. I was told by the company when I brought this up that it was because of excess weight.

It is one pound according to the description. So this product is $13. 59 before regular shipping amount and is still one pound of salt. I am very confused as to why this would sell to anyone. I liked these and ordered them but now they are just price gouging.

I bought 2 of these – found them a little smaller than expected but so cheap. One is hung up in my performance horse’s stall, she has mostly ignored it so far but I don’t think that’s the salt’s fault by any means.

The other I dropped unwrapping it from the packaging and it split in 2. I dropped the pieces in feed buckets and one of the halves is now gone (the 2 year old I think was treating it like a boredom buster), the other being used but not quite so quickly.

Overall the horses seem to like them but be careful unwrapping!!.

This is one hardly salt block. Unwrapping it I was expecting some crumbles to fall off but nope! Horse loved it! Never seen her so excited for anything other than cookies. And the price was amazing! Amazon wanted more than 3x the price! Definitely know where I’m getting these from now on.

It works great for pasture pigs. It gives them the needed minerals to help minimize pasture damage

Our horses love this salt, they have free access to their stalls and are using salt quite a bit in the hot weather we have had, but these blocks seem to last quite a bit longer. Even where they have worn holes through the blocks they are not crumbling and breaking apart.

They cost a little more than the regular salt blocks, but I feel they are worth it.

My horses LOVE LOVE LOVE this salt! I tasted it the first time I purchased one, BEFORE my horse got to it. I searched the local Walmart and found it in a grinder! Wonderful taste. deeper salt taste than regular table salt.

I have high blood pressure, so I must be careful. I use less because of the better flavor.

They are saltblocks. They do the job. Handy size.

It’s salt. Works fine, fits in the holder in the horse stalls. The only thing I hate about these blocks is the sticker sometimes doesn’t peel off easily and leaves a bit of residue.

Seems to be helping my 27 year old horse who lost allot of weight after a move from the north to the south last year. He really likes the taste. Only problem is getting it stocked at the store I order from.
